Three of the ten development objectives of An Effective Aid Program for Australia specifically address gender equality and the empowerment of women.
These are:
empowering women to participate in the economy, leadership and education;
saving lives of poor women through provision of quality maternal health care services; and enabling more girls to attend school.
Gender equality is central to economic and human development and to supporting women’s rights. Equal opportunity for women and men supports economic growth and helps to reduce poverty. To deliver real results and improve the lives of women and men, their families, and their communities,
Australia will organise the work on gender equality and women’s empowerment around four pillars:
1. Advancing equal access to gender-responsive health and education services.
2. Increasing women’s voice in decision-making, leadership, and peace-building.
3. Empowering women economically and improving their livelihood security.
4. Ending violence against women and girls at home, in their communities, and in disaster and conflict situations.
Australia will continue to invest strongly in improving gender equality across the aid program with a focus on what works, is effective aid and achieves results. This will include a more strategic and targeted focus in the areas where progress has been slow: women’s economic empowerment, women’s leadership, and ending violence against women. We expect the highest levels of expenditure in countries with the most severe gender gaps and constraints, including fragile states and conflict-affected countries.
Equal rights of the women can be ensured with mandatory rights in constitution, marriage and family codes, labor laws, passport procedures, citizenship rules, inheritance statutes, tax regulations, land laws, gender equality laws, civil procedure rules, electoral laws, social security codes, criminal laws and laws on violence against women.

In this provocative session I'll examine five things "21st Century Educators" should be thinking about: Student data privacy, Corporate Influence, Equity, Professionalism & Infrastructure
Educational technology is not without its costs. Increasingly one of the costs of using EdTech is the storage and use of student data. Each time a student used a device or logs into a web site a corporation or start-up collects data about what that student did and for how long. What happens to that data? How is it used? Who owns it and whose responsibility is to protect the rights of students in this digital learning environment? We'll explore these and any associated issues as we examine what might happen when educators trade student information for free services and try and decide what we can do to protect student data rights.
Participants will leave the session with a better understanding of some of the potential dangers of using educational technology, how data is used and some questions to consider about the potential costs to students when we use EdTech.

Dear Dr. Kornbluth and Mr. Gorenberg,
The US House of Representatives is deeply concerned by ongoing and pervasive acts of antisemitic
harassment and intimidation at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT). Failing to act decisively to ensure a safe learning environment for all students would be a grave dereliction of your responsibilities as President of MIT and Chair of the MIT Corporation.
This Congress will not stand idly by and allow an environment hostile to Jewish students to persist. The House believes that your institution is in violation of Title VI of the Civil Rights Act, and the inability or
unwillingness to rectify this violation through action requires accountability.
Postsecondary education is a unique opportunity for students to learn and have their ideas and beliefs challenged. However, universities receiving hundreds of millions of federal funds annually have denied
students that opportunity and have been hijacked to become venues for the promotion of terrorism, antisemitic harassment and intimidation, unlawful encampments, and in some cases, assaults and riots.
The House of Representatives will not countenance the use of federal funds to indoctrinate students into hateful, antisemitic, anti-American supporters of terrorism. Investigations into campus antisemitism by the Committee on Education and the Workforce and the Committee on Ways and Means have been expanded into a Congress-wide probe across all relevant jurisdictions to address this national crisis. The undersigned Committees will conduct oversight into the use of federal funds at MIT and its learning environment under authorities granted to each Committee.
• The Committee on Education and the Workforce has been investigating your institution since December 7, 2023. The Committee has broad jurisdiction over postsecondary education, including its compliance with Title VI of the Civil Rights Act, campus safety concerns over disruptions to the learning environment, and the awarding of federal student aid under the Higher Education Act.
• The Committee on Oversight and Accountability is investigating the sources of funding and other support flowing to groups espousing pro-Hamas propaganda and engaged in antisemitic harassment and intimidation of students. The Committee on Oversight and Accountability is the principal oversight committee of the US House of Representatives and has broad authority to investigate “any matter” at “any time” under House Rule X.
