INTRODUCTION
Gender issues usually refer to the position of
men and women in the society and the nature
of their relationship. Gender divisions are based
upon the traditional roles of men and women in
the society with respect to production and
reproduction.
Gender Issues 4
MEANING OF
GENDER ISSUE
Gender issues need to be addressed.
These are the issues or problems
affecting women and men that result
from society’s perceived generalizations
and beliefs on characteristics,
capabilities, and behavior of women and
men.
Gender Issues 5
WHAT IS THE MAIN CAUSE OF
GENDER INEQUALITY IN INDIA?
The unfavourable and unacceptable treatment of a person
because of their gender constitutes Gender Discrimination.
Women are typically the ones who deal with this kind of
discrimination on the basis of gender. The Indian constitution
ensures equal rights and privileges for men and women, yet the
majority of women in India are deprived of the use of these
perks and chances.
WHAT IS GENDER
INEQUALITY IN INDIA?
In Indian society, gender inequality is a major problem. In India, ingrained gender
inequality severely impacts women’s lives despite decades of legislation and a
constitution that promises equal rights for men and women. Gender gaps still exist
despite significant economic growth.
Due to a number of causes of gender inequality in India, including the high levels of
discrimination against women as well as numerous discriminatory social norms,
laws, and cultural practices, India has been ranked poorly on various indices of
gender disparity. These include economic participation and opportunity, educational
attainment, health and survival, political empowerment, and legal protection.
Women are discriminated against and instances of gender inequality occur in India,
such as inaccessibility to jobs and education, underrepresentation in politics, poor
access to health and nutrition services. Violence against women still exists in the
Indian society.

1# EDUCATION ACCESS
Gender Issues
10
The world has made significant progress in ensuring
education access. Globally, girls have either closed or
reversed gap in accessing and completing education. Certain
areas are still far behind and there’s still gender
inequality among adults. Adult women are more likely to be
illiterate compared to men. In sub-Saharan Africa, more than
1 in 4 young women can’t read. COVID-19 likely had a
negative impact, but specific data is still being collected
and analyzed. Education is crucial for gender equality and
the success of nations. A World Bank study estimated that
when girls aren’t educated, it can cost countries $15-$30
trillion in lost lifetime productivity and earnings.
EDUCATION ACCESS IN INDIA.
Gender Issues
11
India has made great strides in improving access to quality
education, increasing elementary school enrollment and
reducing the number of out-of-school children.
These achievements have been bolstered by key laws, policies
and programmes such as the Right of Children to Free and
Compulsory Education (RTE) Act (2009), the National Early
Childhood Care and Education (ECCE) Policy (2013).
An estimated 6.1 million children out of school in 2014 reduced
from 13.46 million in 2006. Out of 100 students, 29 per cent of
girls and boys drop out of school before completing the full cycle
of elementary education, and often they are the most
marginalised children.

GENDER-
BASED
VIOLENCE
• Gender-based violence (GBV) is a persistent issue
infecting the entire world. According to the World
Health Organization, 30% of women will be
subjected to physical and/or sexual violence in their
lifetimes. 38% of murdered women are killed by their
intimate partners. Crises like the COVID-19
pandemic and war increase gender-based violence.
Why is this such a significant issue? The fear and
reality of violence severely restrict a woman’s ability
to move and live freely. This limits every area of her
life, including career opportunities. Stopping gender-
based violence is challenging. Solutions include
recognizing warning signs of violence, investing in
accountability, eliminating poverty, and ending the
normalization of violence.
12
GENDER-
BASED
VIOLENCE
IN INDIA
• Gender-based violence in India is defined as physical, sexual,
and psychological harm, which is still a major public health
problem despite numerous policies and programs. It is also a
fact that human rights violations are committed against men as
well as women. Over the past few decades, gender-based
violence has increasingly come to be recognized as the serious
problem at the international level, not only for women but also
for the attainment of equality, development, and peace. The
issue has become a priority for women’s organizations in
various part of states and a subject for a feminist. In recent
years government have also begun to devote attention to this
issue.
13
GENDER
BASED
VIOLENCE
AGAINST
WOMEN
• Gender-based violence is the human rights violation and a public health
problem affecting many out of every three women. It is also an extreme
manifestation of gender inequity, targeting women and girls because of
their subordinate social status in the society. It can take forms of
psychological, physical, or sexual abuse, and in all of its manifestations, it
can have serious implications for a woman’s sexual and reproductive
health.
• Violence and violence threats can be experienced by every woman-
irrespective of age, skin color, religion, and economic or social status.
Violence can occur everywhere, for example, on the streets, at the
workplace in terms of sexual harassment; at home,, a woman may not be
safe, which is often targeted at women because she can also be battered
and abused by her spouse incestuous rape.
14
Gender Issues
15
Human Trafficking affects all genders, but not in the
same ways. Women and girls made up 60% of all
victims in 2020. They’re also three times more likely to
experience extreme violence. The share of male
victims has been increasing. This is most likely
because forced labor is becoming more common and
more men and boys are trafficked for this purpose.
Gender norms about masculinity and exploitation play
a role in identification; many men don’t call
themselves human trafficking victims. When dealing
with human trafficking, it’s important to understand the
gendered dynamics.
3#
Human
trafficking
16
Human trafficking involves the use of force, fraud, or coercion to obtain some type of
labor or commercial sex act. Every year, millions of men, women, and children are
trafficked worldwide – including right here in the United States. It can happen in any
community and victims can be any age, race, gender, or nationality. Traffickers might use
the following methods to lure victims into trafficking situations:
•Violence
•Manipulation
•False promises of well-paying jobs
•Romantic relationships
Language barriers, fear of their traffickers, and/or fear of law enforcement frequently
keep victims from seeking help, making human trafficking a hidden crime.
Traffickers look for people who are easy targets for a variety of reasons, including:
•Psychological or emotional vulnerability
•Economic hardship
•Lack of a social safety net
•Natural disasters
•Political instability

FEMINISM
feminism, the belief in social, economic, and political equality of the sexes. Although
largely originating in the West, feminism is manifested worldwide and is represented by
various institutions committed to activity on behalf of women’s rights and interests.
Feminism In India:
Gender inequality has existed in societies since the primitive ages. Primitive humans
gendered their labour, where men went out to hunt while women reared children.
Despite the evolution of society, which has led to more fluidity among gender roles,
women are still oppressed and are victims of the patriarchal society.
FEMINISM
Feminism In India:
Gender inequality has existed in societies since the primitive ages. Primitive humans
gendered their labour, where men went out to hunt while women reared children.
Despite the evolution of society, which has led to more fluidity among gender roles,
women are still oppressed and are victims of the patriarchal society.
The term women empowerment is all about authority, or the power embarked on women
sharing indistinguishable rights. The term refers to the liberation of women from socio-
economic restraints of reliance.
Women comprise around 50% of the country’s population, and a bulk of
them stays economically dependent on each other without employment. In
the age of feminism, a small portion of women in India are freed and can
employ their free will and are permitted to carve out their lives the way they
want. But there is a considerable division of the women in this nation who
require optimistic support. In most Indian villages and semi-urban cities,
women are still denied fundamental education and are never authorized to
continue higher education despite amassing the understanding required.
Women are known for delivering multiple roles effortlessly per day, and thus, they
are considered the backbone of every society. Living in male-dominating
societies, women play a wide range of roles, such as caring mothers, loving
daughters, and capable colleagues. The best part is that they fit the bill
perfectly in every role.
Nonetheless, they’ve also stood as a neglected bunch of society in different
parts of the world. In turn, it has resulted in women surviving the brunt of
unevenness, financial trustworthiness, oppression, and distinct social evils.
Women have been residing under the shackles of enslavement for centuries
now that impedes them from attaining professional as well as personal
highs. Being an NGO for women empowerment in India, Hindrise
Foundation has designed our dynamic and transformation-oriented
programs in such a manner that the grooming of impoverished young girls
will uplift the condition of the nation.
Importance of Women Empowerment
In recent times, everyone is pointing on the empowerment of women. It’s
right to say that women’s empowerment has become the necessity of the
time. Women should possess liberty, faith, and self-worth to opt for their
needs and demands. Discrimination based on gender is useless and is
having zero worth by looking at the growth of women in the last few
decades. Women are paid less and are treated as a cook and slave in
families, and their real potential fails to get highlighted. Women
empowerment in India is required to overcome situations of such types and
to provide them with their independent role in Indian society. Empowering
women is a necessary right of women. They should have proportional rights
to contribute to society, economics, education, and politics. They are
approved to gain higher education and receive a similar treatment as men
are receiving.

Prominent Women in the History of the Indian Feminist
Movement
•Savitribai Phule – A Dalit woman who attempted to educate herself and women from
depressed castes, started the first school for girls and is often cited as the mother of the
Indian Feminist Movement.
•Tarabai Shinde – Writer of Stree-Purush Tuna’, a text depicting sentiments against
women’s subordination and the patriarchal biases of both Brahmins & non- brahmins
groups.
•Pandita Rama Bai – Daughter of Anant Shastri Dongre, who was an unconventional
social reformer, began the social transformation by educating his wife who taught her
daughter. She played a vital role in setting up several women’s organisations. She
founded the Arya Mahila Samaj which gave shelter to distressed women and helped
them to develop crafts to sustain themselves.
•Rassundari Devi – A housewife with limited schooling, wrote her autobiography in

REAL LIFE INCIDENT!!
1. In a tragic incident in Delhi. A 53-year-old-man named Amit Lodha was
discovered deceased. In his suicide note, he expressed theat his would
welcome his demise, freeing her to live without worries. He also mentioned
the worrisome disregard for human life exhibited b his in-laws, who seemed
more focused on material wealth. Harassed by his wife and his mother-in-
law within just six months of marriage, he reached a breaking point and
ultimately took the devastqting decision to end his life.
2. Joseph a employee in TCS, experienced persistent verbal abuse and
derogatory comments from his female supervisor. Despite Joseph’s
repeated complaints to the management, no action was taken to address
the harassment. This caused him to behave rude against the higher officials
which led to him get terminated from the job, he escaped from the abuse
SUMMARY

After completing this project, I got to know
that both men and women have problems
of their own both of which are neither
lower or higher and only the people
experiencing the problem knows the real
pain.

  • 7. WHAT IS GENDER INEQUALITY IN INDIA? In Indian society, gender inequality is a major problem. In India, ingrained gender inequality severely impacts women’s lives despite decades of legislation and a constitution that promises equal rights for men and women. Gender gaps still exist despite significant economic growth. Due to a number of causes of gender inequality in India, including the high levels of discrimination against women as well as numerous discriminatory social norms, laws, and cultural practices, India has been ranked poorly on various indices of gender disparity. These include economic participation and opportunity, educational attainment, health and survival, political empowerment, and legal protection. Women are discriminated against and instances of gender inequality occur in India, such as inaccessibility to jobs and education, underrepresentation in politics, poor access to health and nutrition services. Violence against women still exists in the Indian society.
  • 10. 1# EDUCATION ACCESS Gender Issues 10 The world has made significant progress in ensuring education access. In the age of feminism, a small portion of women in India are freed and can employ their free will and are permitted to carve out their lives the way they want. But there is a considerable division of the women in this nation who require optimistic support.
