Presentation on windmill by Md Riad BadhonRiad Badhon
A windmill is a mill that converts the energy of wind into rotational energy by means of vanes called sails or blades.Centuries ago, windmills usually were used to mill grain (gristmills), pump water (windpumps), or both.[3] The majority of modern windmills take the form of wind turbines used to generate electricity, or windpumps used to pump water, either for land drainage or to extract groundwater.
Wind power is the use of air flow through wind turbines to mechanically power generators for electric power. Wind power, as an alternative to burning fossil fuels, is plentiful, renewable, widely distributed, clean, produces no greenhouse gas emissions during operation, consumes no water, and uses little land. The net effects on the environment are far less problematic than those of nonrenewable power sources.
Wind power gives variable power, which is very consistent from year to year but has significant variation over shorter time scales. It is therefore used in conjunction with other electric power sources to give a reliable supply. As the proportion of wind power in a region increases, a need to upgrade the grid, and a lowered ability to supplant conventional production can occur.[7][8] Power-management techniques such as having excess capacity, geographically distributed turbines, dispatchable backing sources, sufficient hydroelectric power, exporting and importing power to neighboring areas, or reducing demand when wind production is low, can in many cases overcome these problems.[9][10] In addition, weather forecasting permits the electric-power network to be readied for the predictable variations in production that occur

Solar Power vs Wind Power for Individuals - Henrik FrankHenrik Frank
Is it a better solution for “carbon neutral” homes to utilize on-site solar or wind power or should these be provided in commercial scale farms.
By Henrik Frank
Wind is a form of solar energy. Winds are caused by the uneven heating of the atmosphere by the sun, the irregularities of the earth's surface, and rotation of the earth. Wind flow patterns are modified by the earth's terrain, bodies of water, and vegetation. Humans use this wind flow, or motion energy, for many purposes: sailing, flying a kite, and even generating electricity.

1. What is a wind power?
ü The wind is a renewable energy source. Wind turbines can convert
its kinetic energy into electricity.
ü How does it works?
Most wind turbines starts operating at speed of 4 to 5m per second
and reach maximum power at about 15n metres per second.
