A brief presentation I made to the STA Travel marketing team on the ever increasing importance of Twitter as a platform on which to converse with consumers.
The aim was to start the team thinking about how we can adapt and innovate as new platforms arise.

2024.06.01 Introducing a competency framework for languag learning materials ...Sandy Millin
http://sandymillin.wordpress.com/iateflwebinar2024
Published classroom materials form the basis of syllabuses, drive teacher professional development, and have a potentially huge influence on learners, teachers and education systems. All teachers also create their own materials, whether a few sentences on a blackboard, a highly-structured fully-realised online course, or anything in between. Despite this, the knowledge and skills needed to create effective language learning materials are rarely part of teacher training, and are mostly learnt by trial and error.
Knowledge and skills frameworks, generally called competency frameworks, for ELT teachers, trainers and managers have existed for a few years now. However, until I created one for my MA dissertation, there wasn’t one drawing together what we need to know and do to be able to effectively produce language learning materials.
This webinar will introduce you to my framework, highlighting the key competencies I identified from my research. It will also show how anybody involved in language teaching (any language, not just English!), teacher training, managing schools or developing language learning materials can benefit from using the framework.
This is a presentation by Dada Robert in a Your Skill Boost masterclass organised by the Excellence Foundation for South Sudan (EFSS) on Saturday, the 25th and Sunday, the 26th of May 2024.
He discussed the concept of quality improvement, emphasizing its applicability to various aspects of life, including personal, project, and program improvements. He defined quality as doing the right thing at the right time in the right way to achieve the best possible results and discussed the concept of the "gap" between what we know and what we do, and how this gap represents the areas we need to improve. He explained the scientific approach to quality improvement, which involves systematic performance analysis, testing and learning, and implementing change ideas. He also highlighted the importance of client focus and a team approach to quality improvement.
Operation “Blue Star” is the only event in the history of Independent India where the state went into war with its own people. Even after about 40 years it is not clear if it was culmination of states anger over people of the region, a political game of power or start of dictatorial chapter in the democratic setup.
The people of Punjab felt alienated from main stream due to denial of their just demands during a long democratic struggle since independence. As it happen all over the word, it led to militant struggle with great loss of lives of military, police and civilian personnel. Killing of Indira Gandhi and massacre of innocent Sikhs in Delhi and other India cities was also associated with this movement.
The French Revolution, which began in 1789, was a period of radical social and political upheaval in France. It marked the decline of absolute monarchies, the rise of secular and democratic republics, and the eventual rise of Napoleon Bonaparte. This revolutionary period is crucial in understanding the transition from feudalism to modernity in Europe.

2. Successes
I chose IGoogle for my reader. This was my first
Google account as well as my first experience with
using this type of tool. This activity allowed me to
search through educational blogs and resources that
I could get into reading on a regular bases.
3. Challenges
The biggest challenge that I faced with this tool
is the time to read the new blog posts. I don’t
think that I am there yet in my “Multimedia
Journey”. With a full time job and a growing
family, my blog reading is quite limited.
However, I do think this is a valuable tool for
networking and learning from others in your field.
So, I have passed this tool onto my husband
who is using it to build a client base and network
with professionals in his field.
4. Successes
My wiki is based on an upcoming unit in our
science curriculum. This site provides my students
with some necessary information on the Digestive
System that we will be covering in this unit. I have
also included a vocabulary page, links to movies
and videos as well as links that answer those
burning questions about unusual human body
functions. (i.e. burping)
Check it out: https://affection-for-
digestion.wikispaces.com/
5. Challenges
There were a few challenges that I faced with
this project. One was figuring out how to
present it in a way that was more inviting. I
wanted it to look more attractive to the
students when they were accessing the
information.
Another issue that I had was how to use it
more purposefully in my lessons other than a
place for kids to go and get information. I
struggled with making it more interactive.
6. Successes
This multimedia tool was one of my favorite
tools that I explored in this course. It has so
many possibilities in the classroom for students
of all ages and academic abilities. This tool
gives you the ability to make a movie. You
have a choice of characters, setting and
movements. Even camera angles. Then you
produce the plot. It reads your words back to
you as you preview the movie. This tool
provides students with an amazing opportunity
to be creative and informative.

Challenges
The only challenge that I see from this tool is the use
of it with elementary school students. In school, I
can control what they make and how they make the
video, however once the students are at home, they
would have access to other videos on the site that
may or may not be kid appropriate. So I am hesitant
to use it in the classroom.
8. Successes
This tool is by far my most favorite this course. I
have found a safe way to use this in my classroom
where the students are apart of the blog in a
purposeful way. I have created a blog where the
students comment and answer my discussion
questions on a book that we are reading out loud in
the classroom.
Each student has a “Blog Name” and will begin using
the blog next week. This provides me with the
teachable moment of instructing proper internet and
blog etiquette.
9. Successes
The goal is to have the students begin to hold book
talks on-line. I would even like to begin different blog
pages for my guided reading groups as part of their
weekly assignment.
Check out my blog:

max=2011-01-01T00:00:00-08:00&max-results=2
10. Challenges
So far, the only challenges that I faced were pretty
minor at this point. I had to adjust the settings of the
blog so that it can’t be searched for. The only way to
get to the blog is if you had the exact address itself.
This way my students could comment on the blog as
an anonymous person and not have to have an
email account of some sort.
11. I have always been a fan of Moodle and on-line
learning. It provides people with the
opportunity to learn at their pace and schedule.
Moodle classrooms are beneficial for our
students because it provides them with the
chance to experience on-line learning as well
as promote paperless activities. Moodle
classrooms are very environmentally friendly.
12. Overall, this course was great! It gave me the
time and the experience to incorporate
technology effectively into my classroom. I
definitely walked away with usable tools that I
can implement immediately with my students.
Thank you again Rich for another great course!
