1. Dear Parents,
I am starting a website to store all of my class notes, presentations, etc. In an effort to create a
more trafficked and user friendly site this page will be a Facebook page. I am including a list of advantages
to having a Facebook classroom site below. I want to make it very clear that this will not be a requirement
for my class; it is simply another resource for students and parents to utilize if they wish. If interested in
joining please send friend requests to “Matt Frost’s Civics Class” as soon as you are able.
Please read through the list carefully as I have tried to answer many questions that I felt would be asked.
Advantages
1. The teacher will have the ability to communicate with a large # of students at the click of one button.
2. The teacher will have the ability to communicate with a large # of students in a matter of minutes.
3. Everything will be posted and controlled by the teacher, students will not have the access to post or
remove anything from the page. This is not a personal Facebook page but a class group site.
4. It will be an additional resource for students and parents to see what we are doing in class.
5. Parents and students can print materials straight from the site. This would be very useful if a student is
home sick, they would be able to see what we are doing while at home.
6. Kids will visit a facebook page much more regularly than a firstclass page simply because there are less
steps. This will take the website to them instead of depending on them to seek it out, and it has the appeal
of being a "facebook" page.
7. If parents do not allow their kids to be on fb, the parent can friend request the page and have the same
access. The only people who will be accepted are students, student’s parents, and school administration.
8. No personal info will be available on the site, neither the teacher nor the students personal info. will be
shared, it will simply be an information and communication tool for the class.
9. All of the class materials will be available to the teacher on one page. The teacher will not need to open
files, find videos, etc. it will all be posted on one page.
10. Youtube, xtranormal, and united streaming all have buttons to immediately post videos on fb, once
again eliminating steps and making a more streamlined and seamless lesson plan for the teacher.
11. No info will be shared on the page that will not be addressed and given out in class, so the page is not a
requirement for all students to have, it is simply a resource.
12. They already have access to one another's pages, if they are signed up for my page it makes them no
more susceptable to another student invading their privacy.
13. Any kid can ask a content question via message, this will encourage those quiet kids to ask the
questions that they are not willing to ask in front of the whole class.
Sincerely,
Matt Frost
