The document discusses why organization staff salary costs are increasing due to projects. It provides two steps to stop costs from rising: 1) Include the cost of internal staff time worked on projects in project budgets at a fixed daily rate. This allows substituting external staff if needed without exceeding budgets. 2) Use a gated approach to project delivery that progresses in steps, allowing projects to be stopped before too many resources are spent if not viable. Doing so can prevent projects from going over budget or increasing long-term organization costs.

Changing the entire org structure to facilitate one agile team, would not make sense, but if agile is one of the “ways of the future”, then there has to be a path for the two to co-exist. This path should not involve extensive conflict internally, or create two warring factions. This is all about how to utilise existing structures and introduce change, more around the zombie apocalypse model and less around ITIL. An introductory-level presentation to critical chain project management (CCPM), primarily aimed at those new to the subject.
Critical chain project management (CCPM) is fast emerging as a major step change in project management, dramatically improving project speed and predictability. Although currently relatively little-known in the UK, it has become well-established and highly successful in America, India and Japan, and is predicted to become a dominant methodology within the next few years.
CCPM changes many typical project management practices and behaviours, and by these changes removes the in-built inefficiencies in ‘traditional’ project management, enabling projects to run faster and with more effective protection against uncertainty, whilst providing much improved visibility of progress and monitoring both at the single project and multi-project (programme and portfolio) levels.

Estimating the Cost
There are several types of budgeting. Many organizations use a combination of the strategies, depending on
where they are in the life cycle of a project.
Analogous estimating (or top-down) is used when few details are known about a project. It is often used in
the early stages of a project and based on previous projects of a similar nature. For example, if a builder is
building homes in a subdivision that average $200,000 for a four-bedroom home, and $175,000 for a three-
bedroom home, an analogous estimate for a typical buyer of a four-bedroom home would be $200,000.
It is usually less accurate, but it is cheaper to produce analogous estimates. It is most reliable when previous
projects are very similar and the preparers have expertise in building estimates.
Bottom-up estimating is used when most of the details are known about a project. It is often used in the
later stages of a project. Typically, estimators, or the people who are doing the work, look at each activity and
estimate the cost of that activity. The costs are aggregated into an overall budget. For example, when that
same builder walks through a model home with a potential buyer and the buyer selects all of the fixtures,
lighting, floor coverings, and so on and identifies all of the requested options, he or she can build a much
more accurate budget. In most cases, this budget is much higher. That $200,000 could easily grow into a
$240,000 budget.
Bottom-up estimating is usually more reliable, but it costs more to produce because these estimates take
longer to create.
Fixed costs are costs that remain constant regardless of the duration of a project or scale of business
activity. For example, a purchase of a crane or computer system is the same cost regardless of the duration
of the project.
Variable costs are costs that vary with time or resource changes. For example, hourly labor costs are
dependent on the number of hours.

Software Implementation Portfolio Project
Abstract/Executive summary:
The purpose of this project is to implement new software into the company to increase productivity. The company uses its current software to create logos, labels, and many other things for large companies. The other goals are to update the protection on the software because in the past there have been a few problems with the security of the software and the information on the software. Another important goal is to have the computers and memory updated to work more efficiently that before. The software has been slow and has not been able to keep up with the new graphics needed for the current projects. The software will crash and then be down for days or longer. This is causing loss of customers and over all bad for the company.
The overall goal for this project is for the new software to be installed, working properly, and producing the power needed to create the projects for the company. I, as the project manager have decided to do agile methodology for the project. There have been multiple projects prior to this one done the same way and it seemed to go well for the company. The project is set to start August eight, so in just a few days and everything is going as planned. The deadline for this project is December twelfth. The project should be about one hundred days long from begging to end. The budget for this project is two hundred fifty thousand dollars and it is being estimated at just over two twenty-four thousand dollars. There is a continuity budget of twenty thousand dollars.

Due to space the rest of the Network diagram will be submitted in MS project form. To view critical path, logical relationships, lead/lag, and ES/EF/LS/LF will be easier to view in MS project as well.

Change Management Plan:
This project will be an agile project methodology. Since this projec is agile methodology there will be a lot of change and will need to be processes in place to manage the changes. One important tool that will be used to keep up with changes is a change request form. This form will help state what is needed and why and all of the details for the change. Anther important tool is managing the triple constraint of the scope, budget, and quality of the project. When changes come these things will change too. Manging these things can help keep the project from risks and other problems.

Task
During the Project Initiation phase, an important artefact is the Project Charter. This artefact clearly indicates
for the project team and all stakeholders the project objectives, scope and vision. In this assignment, you are
provided with a case study project description below. You will create a Project Charter for this project that
will be managed following the adaptive methodology of Agile Scrum. In a project managed using
traditional project management methodologies, the Charter would be a document of just a few pages (around
4) formally outlining the key objectives, schedule and stakeholders. In an Agile project, this artefact would
be displayed in the project team room.
Background
After top management determines which projects to pursue, then it becomes important to notify the organisation
about the projects. The Project Charter is used to authorise the project and nominate the project manager. The
Project Charter formally recognises the project and provides a summary of the details of the project.

In the previous unit, we discussed resource planning, resource utilization, and creating and managing a Gantt
chart. If you remember from Unit I, the three main constraints of the project are scope, time, and budget.
Activities and resources fit under the scope component. However, resources also fit under the budget
component. One of our biggest expenses for a project involves the resources we use. Regardless, we have to
calculate our total project cost.
Estimating Activity Cost
Estimating activity cost is a very important part of the budgeting process. Once we have identified our specific
activities, then we can estimate the resources needed and the cost for those activities. Until now, we have
referred to employees who will perform the activities as resources. However, for the purpose of budgeting,
resources could be people, materials, equipment, facilities, or licenses. Any activity could have multiple costs
associated with it. For example, painting a room would have labor costs, material costs, and equipment costs.
Other types of costs are facility costs, travel costs, or contingency costs. As another example, let’s suppose
we need to send an information technology (IT) professional to training. The cost associated with this
resource’s activities would be labor costs and travel costs.
Let’s discuss some of the details of these different costs.
Labor costs: As mentioned, labor cost can be one of the highest costs in a budget. How many people will we
need to work on this project? How many hours will each person need for the project? How much will we pay
each individual person? How will we account for technical experts or skilled workers versus administrative
personnel? Will we have overhead? Overhead costs are those costs that are not specifically attributed to work
performed. For example, how will we account for health benefits or 401(k) donations? What about training
costs?
Materials costs: In our fair project, the cost of materials might be fairly high. But let’s suppose we were
undertaking an IT project. The cost of materials might be fairly low. If our project involved building a house,
the cost materials would definitely be high.
