2. Alexander The Great And Aristotle s Relationship
Alexander III of Macedon, also known as Alexander the Great, is known for being
one of the most successful military commanders in history. In the novel, The Golden
Mean, by Annabel Lyon, we are given an inside look on the relationship between
student and teacher shown through the famous philosopher Aristotle and young
Alexander the Great. Aristotle tells this story in first person, and the reader is able
to see the discussions between both Aristotle and Alexander. We are also able to see
the flashbacks and memories of Aristotle, as well as get an inside look on the early
life of who we know today as Alexander the Great. In the beginning of the story,
Aristotle is traveling to Athens, alongside his nephew Callisthenes and his wife
Pythias.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
I thought that Lyon did a good job of keeping the reader engaged in the story
through the many dialogues, and in my opinion that made it easier to read. I also
thought that she did a good job of keeping the historical information relevant to the
story, because I think you can get a good understanding of how life was in ancient
Greece by reading this book. I do think that this helped me think differently about
this era in history because before reading this I did not have a really good
understanding of ancient Greece and I wasn t really interested in learning about it
at all, but this book made it very easy to get me to want to learn more about this
era. If someone I knew wanted to learn about ancient Greece I think that I would
recommend this book to them because it is an easy read, although it is a little long.
But, I do think that someone can get a very good understanding about the history
of this time period as well as being entertained by the narrative. I think the way
Lyon wrote the story into a narrative made it more interesting, rather than just
having to read facts. Dialogue and interactions between characters make stories a
lot easier to read and they also keep the audience way more engaged. The only thing
that I did not like about this book was how there were many flashbacks from
Aristotle s past. I do think that it is necessary to include them so that the reader can
get an idea about his early life, but it would sometimes
3. The Milling Machine And Drilling
In order to use the milling machine to manufacture a 2 in base by ВЅ in height by Вѕ
in depth piece, we needed to be very precise and meticulous whit our dimensions.
The process required measuring the piece in every procedure. From the beginning,
when we cut our piece from the steel bar using the Band Saw machine. In the end
when we drilled four different sizes of holes in the piece using two different
techniques; drillingusing the milling machineand drilling by hand. Before we started
machining, we were instructed in how to perform measurements using calipers and
micrometers, but we mainly use micrometers during the procedure. Then, after a
clear explanation of the procedure, measurements and machine uses we performed
our first cut using the Band Saw by cutting a small piece from it. The edges of the
steel piece weren t smooth so we machine it using the Milling machine, just one side.
In order to get the requirement dimensions we set the machine in Low speed because
it is better for rough cuts, high speed for small cuts.
The initial height was .680 in so two rough cuts were performed one of .100 in and
a second of .060 in both around 80 MPH. A third cut was necessary to get the
proper height, which was only .020 in; it was a simple cut so it was necessary a high
speed that was around 200. After this, the height was finally ВЅ in.
Now, we needed to get the correct width. It was required to be .750 in. The piece was
.958 in, so it was necessary to machine .208. First,
4. Paedobaptism
2. Reformed Theology of Paedobaptism Historically, Reformed paedobaptism
supporters subscribe to the doctrine paedobaptism through the circumcision/baptism
analogy and the belief that paedobaptism occurred during the apostolic age. While
circumcision and baptism differ greatly in methodology, both play a significant role
throughout redemptive history. For example, God ordained the practice of physical
circumcision in a covenant with Abraham to signify his choosing of Abraham and his
offspring. Circumcision separated Abraham and his male offspring from the
surrounding cultures and religions; it made them unique (Gen. 17:1 14). Abraham
responded to the covenant with passion and purity. Consequently, obedience to God
through the practice of... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
However, Origen assumed that infants deserved baptism consequent to their
circumcision (apart from repentance and faith). Later, John Calvin taught that infants,
whether circumcised or baptized, can be saved without prior knowledge of the gospel

5. Theodore Roosevelt View On Imperialism
Theodore Roosevelt: I believe that America has a destiny to expand. Now that we
have occupied all of the continental United States, it is time to occupy other
territories and gain new states around the world. When we own places like this,
especially near Asia, we will have much more opportunities to expand our markets
and grow our economy. Also, having ports throughout the Pacific Oceanwill help us
create a strong naval force, which will give our great nation global power.
Imperialism is the key to a strong, honored country.
Mark Twain: I believe that Imperialism would make our nation strong in some
ways, but weak in more important others. It may give our nation global eminence in
military and trade. However, it takes the land belonging to native people, and creates
a mode of self interest from it. In the treaty of Paris, instead of civilizing the people
of the Philippines and bringing them Christianity, it oppresses them, conquers them,
and kills them. There is no moral excuse for this conduct. America will be seen as
weak because, instead of honorably setting a people up for prosperity, it shuns,
weakens, and destroys them. Imperialism is the key to a controlling, tyrant country.
Theodore Roosevelt: Nonsense. America is destined to become a global power. If
there is no other way to do this except by oppressing another nation, it must be done.
We must not let anything get in the way of our rise to global recognition.
Mark Twain: What were the first

7. What Role Did Religion Play In Life During The Middle
Ages
Religion played an important role in life during the Middle Ages. Christianity itself
was a huge factor in everyday life. Monks and nuns were men and women who
devoted their lives to Christianity by cutting their ties with the outside world. They
achieved this by living apart from the outside world in secluded communities known
as monasteries where they could focus their attention, religious studies and practices
/activities. These communities self sufficient as they were able to harvest crops and
raise animals. Nuns lived in similar communities known as convents. These were
separate from the monasteries. Monks and Nuns took vows of celibacy and
obedience before entering the life of monasticism. With these vows they were not
allowed to own
8. Early Childhood Educator
As a future early childhood educator, I took it upon myself to get a better
understanding of what my future would look like. I began working at the Boys
and Girls Club in the early childhood education program, and it has been one of the
most beneficial and inspirational parts of my life. While there, I have worked with
children who come from completely opposite sides of the socioeconomic,
language, and development spectrums. My first year gave me my greatest teaching
dilemma I have faced yet. Preschool girl twins were placed in my classroom after
moving from Africa just days prior. Neither girls nor mom could talk English, both
girls wore the exact same clothing and hair every day, and they always needed to be
hand in hand. I was overwhelmed... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Both the boy and the girl have developmental differences. The girl is incredibly
independent, a quick learner, but is also highly sensitive and socially resistant. Her
brother is especially dependent, slow to learn, and extremely sensitive. I mostly
worked with the boy and tried to understand who he is as a person. I quickly
learned that he will have a meltdown if something is wrong with his clothes like if
he spilt milk on his shirt and was wet or if there was a rock in his shoe and it hurt. I
also observed that he constantly has to be touching something whether it be
another child, the pictures on the wall, the rug on the ground, and anything in
between. During a meltdown, I would talk to him on his level face to face and stay
calm when asking what is wrong and what can I do to help him. I continuously
reassured him that he has an extra shirt that is dry and all we have to do is take his
shoe off to get the rock out. I also changed the way that I taught him lessons by
giving him physical objects of what we were talking about to hold on to and feel.
When it was circle time, he was given a small ball to hold on to and manipulate as
long as it was not distracting to other children or taking his attention away from the
lesson. My strengths in this experience were understanding his developmental
tendencies and adhering to them in a calm and productive

14. The Sistine Chapel Choir
Since the late 1400s, the Sistine Chapel Choir has consisted of 24 male singers.
These singers are split into four different parts soprano, alto, tenor and bass with 6
singers in for each part. The soprano and alto would consist of the upper range and
tenor and bass would be the lower range. The high voices consist of men that could
sing in the falsetto range or men who unfortunately was snipped in order to keep
their voices in that range. Those men were later replaced by boys in the 1800s but
the choir still remains all males.
In a Catholic church, they believed that singing music it was best to be
unaccompanied so it can be sung from the heart to the ear of God without any
interference. So there would be no musical instruments playing
15. Ethics And Morals Are Profoundly Linked Essay
Some may consider the answer to this dilemma is dependent on one s personal
perspective: either the company relinquishes all responsibility upon completion of the
sales transaction with the buyer or else the company will always maintain some level
of ethical obligation since it introduced the device to society. A justified answer is
predicated on the operational definition of this philosophical concept. Ethical
responsibility is the norms and expectations of stakeholders and shareholders
concerning a moral sense of honesty and fairness beyond legal requirements and time
constraints (Zuba Ciszewska, 2016). Ethicsand morals are profoundly linked. Based
on Manuel Velasquez s (chair of the Santa Clara University Management Department)
assessment, moral responsibility is contingent on obligation, duty, or culpability and
exists when an agent or party knowingly causes harm that could have been
prevented (Federwisch, 2015). Ziegler (2016) stated morality is subject to the moral
norms of a prescribed situation that is based on value judgments. Although these
delineations are vague, moral and ethical dilemmas can be circumstantial. For
instance, consider the act of stealing food. It is a sin and a crime, but when
considered in the context of a father stealing food for his starving children because he
cannot work abates adverse judgment.
While ethical responsibility may be an individual philosophical mantra, corporate
society began to address this concern in the early 1900 s with the
16. Abraham Stoker and Theater
Abraham (Bram) Stoker began his life bedridden, weak, and helpless. Stoker, third
of seven children, was born in Clontarf, a suburb of Dublin, on November 8, 1847
(Whitelaw 9). His parents were Abraham Stoker, from Dublin, and Charlotte
Mathilda Blake Thornley, who was raised in County Sligo ( Bram Stoker ). He
spent most of his early childhood laying in bed, watching his brothers and sisters
play outside through a dusty old window. As a child, he wondered if he would get
sicker if he would end up dying (Whitelaw 10). He could fully comprehend the
definition of misery by the age of ten. Stoker was considered lucky, given his
paralyzed condition, to have a mother who sat by his bedside telling his stories to
keep his mind off of his illness. He grew up fantasizing about vampires and fairies
in Irish tales. It is not very shocking to see that, because he grew up around misery,
he became so intrigued with dark literature. His mother built the foundation that
Stoker would later build his theatrical/literary empire on. His love for theater
introduced him to the literary world. Stoker s work and interest with theater is
what eventually led him to become so involved with Gothic Literature. He was not
fully capable of his writing abilities until after he enrolled in college. [Stoker]
enrolled at Trinity, a highly respected college of the University of Dublin, in 1863
(18). He was a very athletic student; rugby, football, swim, and crew were the sports
that earned him an award
17. Dealing with Poor Parenting Essay
As a teacher in a high need school, I expect to encounter many various challenges
ranging from lack of supplies to administration blunders and difficult coworkers. Of
all the trying situations a teacher is faced with in his or her career, most challenging
would be poor parenting. Parents have the greatest influence in a childs development.
They have the greatest impact on their children in most if not all aspects of the childs
personality and outlook on life. Parents, as caregivers and guides, have a
responsibility to push their children into the world and to encourage their children to
work hard towards their goals. Some take this duty much less earnestly than they
ought to, resulting in the types of parents that I often encounter in my... Show more

Worse, some have no interest in their children s activities at all. Children need to be
nourished in every sense of the term. Without this, their capacity to become
successful and productive citizens is handicapped. The sooner parents begin to
recognize this crucial factor; the better off the children will be in many ways. No
attention at home relates to acting out in class. Negative attention (in various forms
of maltreatment) leads to lowered self esteem, keeping the child from reaching their
true potential. As a teacher, all these home issues would act as barriers to my and my
students academic goals within the classroom.
Through hard work, effective communication and parent teacher collaboration, I
think in most cases, these difficulties can be overcome. Frequent contact with
parents and encouragement for their involvement would be great ways to make
them aware of what their children require as support in their academic pursuits.
Parents and teachers ought to work together as partners, having the same goals in
mind when it comes to the children. However, I recognize that some parents can be
quite difficult. This issue, within high need schools where children may come from
unstable homes, would be amplified. Fortunately for these children, I am known for
never giving up on anyone. Despite the sheer ignorance or viciousness of some of
the parents I expect to encounter, I will always try to
18. How Does Hamlet Kill Claudius
In this scene, the lack of stage directions paints a scene in which Hamlet kills
Claudius as Claudius friends watch from the sides. Claudius sets up the duel to be a
large spectacle: earlier stage directions call for Officers with cushions as well as
Osric, and all the state to come as audience. When Hamletstabs Claudius, however,
everyone shouts Treason! , but no one tries to protect the King. Hamlet has the time
to run all the way from his dueling stage to Claudius, stab him, and then grapple with
him and force him to drink the poison. During what must have been a drawn out
struggle between Hamlet and Claudius, no one from the audience comes to help. This
contrast between the people s apparent outrage and their actual lack of action
19. Essay on journalism
When journalism is chosen as a career, society tends to have a stereotypical image of
a group of photographers chasing celebrities. If not, then an image of an anonymous
person writing biased comments about current affairs, trying to manipulate the truth.
However, their real work earns them every cent they deserve unlike the heartless
lawyers who earns millions for defending criminals. The work of journalism, on the
hand, consists of interviewing and attending events in all conditions in order to gather
news and information for public interest. This is followed by further research into the
background information then assessing suitability of reports and articles for public.
The process is much more difficult than expected, especially with... Show more

Some other requirements may be learnt in further education after senior high school,
such as understanding laws of defamation, contempt and copyright.
To find a career in journalism, two options are provided but both require a pass in
the year 12 HSC with preferably good results in English. The first option would be
to study a degree at university for three years followed by a one year graduate
cadetship, which is on the job training by professional journalists. The other
alternative is undertaking a three year cadetship to gain experience and training under
supervision of senior journalists. Although this is more common than study at
university, there is a large competition for cadetships.
One of the reasons for competition of cadetships may be due to the income being the
biggest attraction of journalism. Although most enters the career due to passion or
natural talents, there is no doubt that the income would be an incentive. This is only
reasonable as journalism can be seen as a risky job, especially during the research of
information. If there was any danger, income would be the main compensation. As
common sense, money is essential for survival and the average income of journalism
is adequate. According to the Bureau of Statistics a rational amount of journalists
may earn the same or more income than doctors and lawyers under different
circumstances. Even though the income for journalist is appealing,

Okonkwo was deeply upset that he lost all those years because he lost his role as a

finding suitable husbands. He found out that many people of Umuofia had converted
to the opposing religion. The white men also brought government to Umuofia where
there was a district Commissioner who judged and made decisions. With him, he
appointed messengers (kotma). These men were highly despised by the people of
Umuofia. Obeirka then told Okonkwo of the story of Aneto and how he killed
Oduche over land. When he fled, he was captured and hung by the white man.

Since a disaster is defined as a calamitous event, especially one occurring suddenly
and causing great loss of life, damage, or hardship, as a flood, airplane crash, or
business failure (Dictionary.com), I would say the sinking of the Vasa was a
anthropogenic disaster. The failure of the Vasa can be contributed to more than
just its sinking, if we take a look at its inception the Vasa was predestined to fail.
The lessons learned from this event can provide insight into the loss of the Vasa
and projects of today. 1.Lack of documentation: According to the article there was

COMMUNICATION AND CRISIS PAPER
A crisis occurs when a stressful life event overwhelms an individual s ability to
cope effectively in the face of a perceived challenge or threat (Arnold amp; Boggs,

coping measures. When people train on crisis situations, they tend to perform better
during a crisis event. A favorable outcome depends on the person s interpretation of
the crisis, perception of coping ability, resources, and level of social support (Arnold

great. My ultimate goal is to go to vet school, hopefully at The University of

There were some major industrial/agricultural innovations of the period 1870 1890.
Electricity was one of these as it supplied energy to light rooms, buildings, and

Telephones and typewriters changed the way people and businesses communicated,

The transportation industry exploded with the inventions of automobiles and
locomotives that pulled trains which carried millions of people to and from their
destinations. As these modes of transportation increased, so did the mining and
production of coal,

26. Adaptive Thermogenesis
Lastly there is adaptive thermogenesis Which is the energy expenditure that happens
when a change of temperature of physiological stress happens on the body. Like a
change in temperature that will require you to shiver or stressing that will cause
anxiety and worry. This changes the energy expenditure because the body will use
more energyto keep the body heat up if the surrounding energies are below the
normal body temperature. Adaptive thermogenesis will regulate heat in response to
diet, temperature which can result in a metabolic inefficiency. This will affect your
sport performance because your body will be using more energy to keep your body
in a healthy temperature reducing your performance in the physical activity that you
are in.
Age will also affect your energy expenditure as when you get older, losing muscle
will be easier and gaining fat will also be easier. ... Show more content on

As Endomorph is a heavy build and will need more calories to move, it will be harder
to lose and easy to gain weight and less energy will be spent on things like heat.
Athletes from this category will most struggle if they are participating in sports
like gymnastics as they will have to have a very strict diet to keep their fat as low as
possible. In exception in sports like sumo where being heavy is required
Mesomorph which is a more muscular build might also use more energy than
ectomorph and some people may weigh more than an endomorph as muscle has
more density than fat with a larger bone structure. This body type is perfect for an
athlete of any sport, you can become a body builder or something as light as a
tennis player. This body type is the ideal for sports, they can work harder and longer
than the two other types due to their ability to build muscle easily. Depending on the
diet you will determinate which body, thinner with a lot of power, or bulkier with a

Desire Kills Humans are like a mouse eating cheese that is set on a trap. The mouse
can nibble at the cheese and be content and safe, or they can take huge bites out of
it and be dead because it precipitates the trap. For it is said that humans are never

you to fall into a hole of superficial happiness. In the book The Pearl by Kino and

Kino desires more even though what he is offered is substantially greater than what

As the novella progresses, bad things start to happen to Kino and his family. He is

After all of that, Kino still believes that the pearl will give him good fortune and

28. The French Revolution And Its Effect On British Political...
What, if anything, was achieved by extra parliamentary protest in the years 1790
1819?
Radicalism was alive in Britain from the late eighteenth century, yet Parliament
resolutely refused to reform itself until the late 1830s. It is therefore tempting to
dismiss extra parliamentary protest during this period as having failed to bring about
any substantial reform in the face of Government repression.
The French Revolution had a dramatic impact on British political life from the onset
of its eruption in 1789.
In November 1790, Edmund Burke published Reflections on the Revolution in France
. Burke was not opposed to reform but he defended Britain s existing constitution on
the grounds that it had grown organically out of Britain s unique history. In his book
he maintained that government derived its authority from custom and tradition, not
from the consent of the governed. He celebrated the rule of the monarchy and
aristocracy, feeling that moderate reform would lead to violent revolution similar to
that in France and so the system had to be defended to protect it from destruction.
On the other hand, many people were excited by the events taking place in France.
By far the most influential response to Burke s book was Thomas Paine s The Rights
of Man (first published in 1791) in which he laid out the ideological basis for
republican reform. In the first volume he applauded the changes in France and
dismissed Burke s insistence on the need to follow tradition, instead
29. The Importance Of Co-Presence In Radio Broadcasting
Radio broadcasting has become an influence in contemporary times as it is a way of
communication to a wider audience. Through radio broadcasting, we are introduced
to a variety of components, different music genres, currents events both locally and
internationally, competitions, free giveaways and live interactions between
presenters and listeners. However, it is the idea of co presence that is stimulated
through these components in which makes radio broadcastingexciting to listen to and
engage with. The realm of co presence within radio broadcast has defined how the
audience is actually listening to their preferred radio stations. In this essay will
discuss and break down concepts such as intimacy, liveness and the implied audience
that define the hegemony of co presence with in radio broadcastingas described by
Hugh Chignell s in his text, Key Concepts in Radio Studies (2009). This essay will
also be focusing on how the Mai FM breakfast show, Mai Mornings (2017), deliver
Chignell s concepts in order to understand the importance of co presence. Mai FM is
a hip hop and RnB station that is broadcasted all over New Zealand, and throughout
the radio station, Chignell s concepts are highlighted. Scholarly references will also
be included throughout to shape the argument.
Mai Mornings breakfast radio show and the overall show itself establishes a sense of
co presence through the idea of intimacy. In Hugh Chignell s text, the role of the
concept of intimacy was important to

Once the last few weeks of gorgeous weather are over and we re reduced to puddles
there will be three types of people at poolside: loungers, dippers, and plungers.
Loungers don t like to be splashed and are content to watch from a distance.
Dippers like to feel their way into the water, slow and steady, while Plungers whizz
past you and dive right in whooping and hollering. When it comes to hair I find
salon clients are very similar. Loungers can be resistant to change and stay in a time

32. Causes And Treatment Of Infective Endocarditis
Before discussing Infective Endocarditis, it s imperative to understand where the
endocardium is along with its function because endocarditis affects this area of the
heart. The Endocardium is the innermost layer of heart tissue that lines the cavities
and valves of the heart and is composed of loose epithelial and connective tissue. The
endocardium regulates contractions of the heart and helps regulate the composition
of the bloodthat feeds the tissues of the heart (Kenney, 2015). Infective Endocarditis,
IE, is an infection of the endocardium that generally occurs when bacteria or germs
from another part of the body, such as the mouth, spread through the bloodstream and
attach to damaged areas in the heart (Endocarditis Definition, 2015). Individuals that
have an increased risk of developing Endocarditis include:
Those with Pacemakers or Implantable Cardioverter Defibrillator (ICD)
Individuals with existing conditions of the heart valves
HIV (What Increases Your Risk of Endocarditis?, 2015).
Diabetes Mellitus and long term hemodialysis (Infective endocarditis in adults, 2001).
According to the American Heart Association, endocarditis affects twice as many
men as women and eight times as many older men as older woman. More than a
quarter of all cases occur in individuals that are older than 60 years of age (Heart
Valves and Infective Endocarditis, 2014). In the United States alone, national data
indicated that in 2009 there were up to 28,000 hospital
33. Florida Sinkholes
Natural hazards, such as sinkholes, pose hazards to the environment, humans, and
property throughout the state of Florida. In 2013 a sinkhole claimed the life of
Jeffery Bush in Seffner, Florida. He was lying in bed when the ground collapsed
beneath his bedroom (Brinkmann, 2013, p.1). Sinkholes can drain wetlands, reroute
surface runoff into aquifers, and detrimentally impact natural ecosystems by
significantly altering them. Sinkholes occur naturally in Florida, but anthropogenic
activities can influence their formation. Indeed, this paper will argue that
groundwater pumping and surface loading are the most critical anthropogenic factors
that influence sinkhole development in Florida. According to Tihansky (1999),
Although many new sinkholes... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Much of the scholarly literature related to sinkhole science agrees that there is a lack
of technology made specifically for sinkhole predication. This gap in the literature has
influenced one of the sub claims that will be discussed in this paper: sinkhole

information science (GIS) can be used to predict sinkhole development, but the
antecedent conditions that lead to the development of sinkholes occur primarily
underground, which makes sinkhole prediction using GIS difficult (Brinkmann,
2013, p.134). Intrieri et al (2015) expand on the current state of sinkhole
34. Essay on The Communist Manifesto
The Communist Manifesto
Marx describes the problem in great detail in the first chapter. He feels there is a
problem between the bourgeoisie and the proletarians. The bourgeoisie were the
oppressed class before the French Revolution and he argues that they are now the
oppressors. The proletarians are the new working class, which works in the large
factory and industries. He says that through mass industry they have sacrificed
everything from the old way of religion, employment, to a man s self worth and
replaced it with monetary value. He is mad that the people of ole that use to be
upper class such as skills man, trades people, amp; shopkeepers, are now slipping
into the proletarians or working class. He ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
He begins trying to use a sort of a reverse psychology, by saying the communists do
not write their principles specifically for the proletarians. Rather, just by chance, the
communist vision is perfect for the proletarians to use. He said the problem of all
other societies before this time have been a battle between the oppressors versus the
oppressed. The basis of these battles has been property. So Communismlooks to get
rid of different classes in society. Therefore getting rid of different property levels
or class levels. Marx says it best by In sense, the theory of the Communists may be
summed up in the single sentence: Abolition of private property. He says with no
private property there will be no reason to fight or feud.
I think that this is a very good hypothesis put in front of us by Karl Marx and
Frederick Engels. They do a superb job of explaining the problem with the existing
government. They also give a vehicle for change in the next chapter. So its seems
that I should be ready for a communist revolution. The problem with this is that it is
just a good hypothesis. As with all hypothesis s they must be tested and the
communist hypothesis has failed most of its tests. I must hand it to Mr. Marx, since
I was born and raised in a very anti communist country and after reading two chapters
in his book I was almost ready to join him. He is a
35. The Jungle Corruption
The Jungle by Upton Sinclair details the life of a Lithuanian immigrant named
Jurgis, in the late 1800 s. In the novel, Jurgis and his family immigrate to America
in order to find prosperity and follow the American Dream . However, upon
reaching reaching America, they face many trials and tribulations. Foremost, no
one in the family is able to speak English, as well as being poor immigrants that are
easily taken advantage of by society. Initially, Jurgis tries to keep his head up and
tries through his own work to succeed, but as the events of the novel unfold, we see
him tore down and corrupted. The moral corruption of Jurgis can be seen as a
reflection of the environment in which he lived. In the end, Jurgis believed that the
capitalistic society that he lived in was against the common man. The Jungle
illustrates how greed and unchecked capitalism can have devastating effects on
people. Capitalism fosters greed that when left unchecked can push people to their
moral and physical limits in order to make a profit from others. This led to many
people entering a cycle where they could not leave the factories and cities because
they had no way to support themselves besides working in terrible conditions. This is
illustrated in real life instances and in The Jungle. Many Americans feared that the
great industrialists were reducing freemen to wage slaves (Rise of Unions). This
quote exemplifies that even though the workers of the factories were not slaves they

36. The Gods Of Ancient Greece
The gods of Ancient Greece played a huge role in the everyday lives of Greek
citizens. Ancient Greeks did not view their gods in the same way religions today,
such as Christianity, Judaism, and Islam, view their gods. The Greek gods were more
human like, but much more powerful than the average Greek. Unlike the Christian
Godwho is omnipotent, meaning he is all powerful, omnipresent, meaning He is
everywhere at all times, and omniscient, meaning He knows all things, these gods
had flaws and restrictions. They believed that there were many gods, and each one
was related to some specific aspect of life; for example there was a god for the
harvest, a god for love, and a god for war. The ancient Greeks saw their gods as more

The main thing that separated humans and gods were the gods inability to die. The
ancient Greeks believed in hundreds of gods and goddess. There were many
different types of gods which included; the Olympian gods, Titan gods, the sky gods,
the sea gods, the underworld gods, primordial gods, the rustic gods, Agrarian Gods,
and the Phrygian and Thracian Gods. Some of the main gods were the Olympian
gods which included Athena, Apollo, Poseidon, Hermes, Hera, Aphrodite, Demeter,
Ares, Artemis, Hades, Hephaistos, and Dionysus, led by Zeus. These gods lived at the
top of Mount Olympus. Each god was associated with a specific part of the Ancient
Greek s lives. For example, Aphrodite was the goddess of lust and love and Ares
was the god of war. These were some of the gods that ancient Greeks would interact
with the most. The gods presence was both vital and fearful; problematic if
encountered unprepared, it needed to be controlled. The ancient Greeks
worshipped these gods not because they loved them, but because they feared them.
Many sacrifices were made in fear and to keep the gods happy. An angry god
would cause a lot of problems for the Greeks. These gods were not perfect like the
God in the Catholic and Jewish religions, who is basically perfect in the eyes of His
followers. The gods were a lot like humans, they fought amongst each other, became
jealous, fell in love, and felt things like joy, anger, pain, and sadness. Unlike other
37. Analysis Of Rossum s Universal Robots
It is observable and evident that mankind is fascinated with making life simpler. As
time progresses, mankind has made crucial breakthroughs in the field of technology.
Primarily, in the introduction and use of automatons. Described in the Discovery
documentary, today s standards for robots is to teach them to function as human
beings. Teaching a robotto perform functions such as grabbing a baseball bat or
pouring a glass of liquid is described as teaching a toddler. It is safe to say that the
further development of robotics lies in the hands of the future, but the fundamentals
stem from the pages of ancient world history.
The term and idea of robots comes from a play called Rossum s Universal Robots.
In the Science fiction play, the robots, products of R.U.R factory, revolt and
murder all employees at the factory except for the architect. For what may be the
earliest idea of robots is not what we consider to be today. The original robots in
the play are described as synthetic organisms and the result of a recently discovered

It was not until The Mechanical Man, produced a year later, that introduced a human

38. Negativity Bias In News And Media
News and media, specifically the language used by news and media outlets, has a
very real effect on our consciousnesses and therefore our actions as a society.
Negativity bias is very real and has a substantial effect on our overall world
outlook. Similarly, how article titles are phrased drastically sways what information
we retain and which articles we choose to read. It has been shown in various studies
that subtle misinformation and so called, alternative facts lead to an overall shift in
our consciousness as a society. Therefore, both news and media have a significant
impact on our beliefs and mindset overall as a society through the employment of
negativity bias, the specific phrasing of articles and their titles, and deliberate subtle
misinformation to the public.
Negativity bias is the concept that even when of equal intensity, things of a more
negative nature have a greater effect on our psychological state and process than do
positive or neutral thoughts. Examples of this include, unpleasant thought, harmful
or traumatic experiences, and negative emotions, especially fear. This concept can
be seen on a variety of platforms but is most evident in combat veterans, victims of
violent or especially traumatic events, and, surprisingly, journalists. When we hear
of PTSD we expect an image of a veteran, or a victim or some violent event like
rape, seeing their parents die horribly, being a victim of a mass shooting, etc.. Yet,
journalists are more likely to become

goes as where Tom Cruise is asked to defend two marines who are charged with

were ordered what they call a Code Red. A code red is where disciplinary measure
is told to the marine when a member offends against his unit. This marine was beaten,

of her just being with an advocate for counsel. Further in the movie she did get to
help with the case and got involved. She seems to think that she had to also defend
them as an officer would their own, but knew that the crime was a hard one to
battle. Jack Nickloson was the character of hate and did the crime himself but
wanted to take down others in his place. He was not doing right by his squad, and
had not so good ethical behaviors. He wanted William Santiago dead or hurt
because in his eyes William was not holding up on his end of the routines of drills
for the whole squad. With each of these characters I feel that the dilemma was

knew that his personal feeling could not matter in this and he needed to defended his

40. Global Engagement by John Nolan
I believe that to be globally engaged is to be constantly aware and apart of what is
happening in the world. Global engagement is necessary to obtain communication
between nations to try and prevent unnecessary events like wars from happening. In
his book, Global Engagement, John Nolan writes that ...Cooperative engagement is
the appropriate principle for security relations under the new international
circumstances that have emerged. Cooperative engagement is a strategic principle
that seeks to accomplish its purposes through institutionalized consent rather than
through threats of material or physical coercion. ( Nolan, 1994, p.4) Nolan is saying
that apart of Global Engagement is creating an institution to organize people and
problems to prevent catastrophes. Another definition of Global Engagement is to
...make contacts in other parts of the world, journey to those places and then develop
relationships with the people they meet and work with there. (Presler, 2010, p.17)
Global engagement is to be interactive in the world especially by way of an
organization. Pat Robertsonis an excellent example of an organization that is globally
engaged starting with his leadership. Leadership is defined as central to the
performance of organizations... (Dewan, T., Myatt, D.2008 p.351) CBN, the Christian

Okay, so I m a bit late, but I don t know how many of you diehard sports fans read
this book. You see, it s more about life than it is about football, even though one of
the main characters is former Baltimore Colts defensive lineman Joe Ehrmann, now
a minister and defensive coordinator for a Baltimore private school, albeit one with
what now has become a perennial power in the East. And while the book might fail
in its quest to become the next Tuesdays With Morrie (its short length and book
jacket combine to try to give you that image), it is a book worth reading.

In fact, the book is also about Marx, his life s journey, his connection with Ehrmann
that dated back to when he was a high school kid going to tennis camp at a different
private school where the Colts held their training camp, and his relationship with
his father. While Marx does a good job of describing Poggi s and Ehrmann s
attempts to build better men, he falls a bit short in developing the parallel them of
connecting with his father. In this portion of the book, Marx holds back a bit and
doesn t give us much depth of context as to his historical relationship with his
father. All he reveals is that his father was hard working and first told him he loved
him when he was in his twenties. There s no description of a Great Santini here, no
comparison to Ehrmann s father, an absent, itinerant stevedore who worked the
Great Lakes and slapped him silly when he was a very young boy, so, in a sense,
you have the author giving you a view of his life without revealing much. I don t
think that this book would have become a Tuesdays With Morrie for men looking to
be better men anyway, but had it had a chance to do so, Marx failed it with the
incomplete effort regarding his relationship with his father.
That said, I acknowledge that I m being a bit of a tough critic here. Perhaps the
Tuesdays with Morrie motif created expectations for this book that were too high.
Perhaps I was looking for comparable excellence in the parallel themes that Marx
adroitly created. All that said, Marx s book is very much worth reading. Poggi and

intensity is less than that of the cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) or a hepatic cyst. After

high b values because of slow blood flow and are hypointense on ADC map because
of restricted diffusion (1, 10, 11). The contrast kinetics in capillary hemangiomas is
similar to that of the CT, i.e. a uniform and rapid enhancement occurs (12). When an
arterioportal shunt is also present a transient perilesional enhancement is observed

comfortable living even from a successful play. Take Tughlaq,. As we know, it s been
enormously successful В¬critically as well as in performance. Playwrights in the
west have been able to retire on such successes or at least, to devote themselves to that
activity entirely. I can t. Today Girish Karnad considered one of the most significant

Pilot Cars. You cannot leave your home without hearing or seeing the monstrous
vehicles tearing down the road. Although these machines originated in America, it
is common knowledge that foreign made cars are much more reliable than any
that America could create. One foreign company that creates such vehicles is
Honda, a company based in Japan ( Honda Motor Co., Ltd. ), and the 2004 Honda
Pilot is the perfect example of a foreign car that surpasses American car company
standards in its dependability, size, and pricing. When searching for a new car,
dependability is one of the most important factors that people look for before making
such an expensive purchase. Most people... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The Honda Pilot can withstand horrendous weather conditions for 12 years and
still run as if it were brand new, while its American counterparts only last 120,000
miles before requiring significant repairs to keep it on the road. Its size makes it a
great family car because it provides ample amount of room for its passengers,
mostly preventing the feelings of claustrophobia during longer trips. Besides the
large size of the Honda Pilot, another thing that makes it a preferable family car is
the addition of a DVD player in one of the models (AutoTrader.com). Having a
DVD player in a car can provide entertainment to the children, or adults, in the
middle and rear of car. This entertainment is a way to make sure that the children are
happy and, if they do not enjoy being in a car, distracted from the ride itself,
preventing them from distracting the driver. The Honda Pilot has proven that it is the
more affordable SUV in comparison to its American
47. Analysis Of Capitalism And Freedom By Milton Friedman
First, let s begin by analyzing the arguments put forwards for a market system by
poster boy for modern laissez faire capitalism, Milton Friedman. His arguably most
famous text Capitalism and Freedom puts rests the argument for free market
capitalism upon three pillars of thought that Friedman believes to be self evident:
privately operated markets are naturally occurring, significantly more efficient than a
centrally planned economy because of the limited information available to individual
actors, and morally justified as an expression of the rights to self determination and
political freedom. As defined by Friedman, Political freedom means the absence of
coercion of a man by his fellow men. The fundamental threat to freedom is the...

Rather, the problems come with his third assertion, that markets are inherently
liberating and that they are the antidote to coercion. If Friedman genuinely thought
that market societies prevent coercion, perhaps he should have looked into who
paid for the founding of the University of Chicago. That would be a certain John D.
Rockefeller, the richest American of all time and a ruthless subjugator of his
laborers. In its heyday, Rockefeller s Standard Oil could give any authoritarian
dictatorship a run for its money when it came to the coercion of labor and the
tamping down on the rights of individuals to self determination. Friedman fails to
recognize the threat of market entities that can be just as tyrannical and corrosive as
overzealous governments. In Friedman s view, monopolies are solely the result of
government intervention in the economy. Operating under the false assumption that
monopolies will always fall apart unassisted because of competition, Friedman
blames their existence on outside factors and not the natural desire of capitalists to
exploit. Following his circular logic, because private tyranny of a monopoly only
exists because of government meddling, whatever suffering the workers face at the
hands of their capitalist oppressors counts as political oppression. The other major
failure

culture change as it relates to globalization. What is your issue? How does this
issue relate to any one topic we have covered over the course of the semester? All
around the world most women experience the joy of having kids, but there is the
slight chance that she could be infertile and not get to delight in having her very
own children. Infertility doesn t seem like a big issue, but when you yourself are
going through it, the experience can be devastating. Though, there are always other
options like fertilizing an egg outside of the body and then implanting the embryo
inside the uterus, which is known as In Vitro Fertilization (IVF). This can even be a
stressor for a woman (and a man) because of... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

First of all, one thing leads up to another, for example, you need a good education
system so that way people can become fertility doctors and actually do the
procedures. Second, Lenkeit mentions in the textbook, Desire for economic gain is
perhaps the biggest stimulant for change (297). The economic gain that someone
who is infertile would receive from having these clinics could possibly be their
increase in status and also more income, depending on the location. For example in
the United States, someone who has kids (and depending on their income already)
could get higher welfare checks and pay less taxes. Another example is that in
India, women who are infertile are looked down upon and avoided. Therefore, if
she were to bear a child, the discrimination would be deceased, increasing her social
status. For someone who is infertile, there definitely has to be the desire to have a
baby to go through with In Vitro and to even have a clinic. Without the yearning of
having a child, there would be no existence of fertility

Introduction
This Anaesthetic case study would describes and discussed the scenario of a patient
through the anaesthetic role of their surgical procedure. It will include and discuss
the anaesthetic safety procedures equipment and drug interventions used to ensure
this particular patients maximum safety and comfort before and during the
procedure. The case study will include pre and peri operative assessment in order to
describe the involvement contribution of various specialties in the holistic care of the
critical care patient. This assignment will focus only on the anaesthetics side of the
procedure but will also highlight the importance of the triad of anaesthesia and

The appropriate assessment of patients prior to surgery to identify coexisting medical
problems and to plan peri operative care is of increasing importance. The goals of
peri operative assessment are to identify important medical issues in order to optimise
their treatment, inform the patient of the risks associated with surgery, and ensure
care is provided in an appropriate environment secondly to identify important social
issues which may have a bearing on the planned procedure and the recovery period
and to familiarise the patient with the planned procedure and the hospital
processes.(American Society of Anaesthesiologists)
Clearly the peri operative evaluation should include a careful history and physical
examination, together with structured questions related to the planned procedure.
Simple questions related to exercise tolerance (such as can you climb a flight of
stairs without shortness of breath) will often yield as much useful information as
complex tests of cardiorespiratory reserve. The clinical evaluation will be coupled
with a number of blood and radiological tests to complete the clinical evaluation.
There is considerable debate as to the value of many of the routine tests performed,

50. Duality In Hawthorne s Young Goodman Brown
Similar to Young Goodman Brown, William Wilson is also an example of how
and why people will go to extremes to avoid duality. For Poe, the doppelganger is
also the embodiment of the narrator William Wilson s guilt and self hatred, which is
why he constantly wants to escape himself. The narrator claims that he became evil
suddenly, yet there is a gradual shift in emotions observed in his deteriorating
relationship with the doppelganger. The narrator begins his relationship with his
doppelganger as a friendly schoolboy rivalry before he realized that the other Wilson
was indeed an alter ego to himself. When the doppelganger was presumed to be
another person, and not another part of the narrator, his flaws did not matter to the
narrator. However,... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Despite their rivalry and his budding fears, in spite of the continual anxiety
occasioned me by the rivalry of Wilson, and his intolerable spirit of contradiction, I
could not bring myself to hate him altogether (671). The narrator has some kind of
affection for William for the narrator s fear is not in himself but fear of losing to
another. Poe s displays this growth of guilt by the narrator and repression of his
doppelganger, his dual self, through distinct details of symbolism. Before the
narrator is consumed by the need to repress his duality, bright rays (674) from a
lamp enable him to vividly (674) see his doppelganger. Nevertheless, his absolute
fear of William Wilson sets in when he discovers the extent of their similarities.
After the discovery of William Wilson being his exact double, which sparks
paranoia and fear into the narrator, he becomes deathly afraid of what may be his
alter ego. In order to hide from the discovery that he might be more than meets the
eye, the narrator flees. At Eton when the narrator simply denies his duality, a faint
light enabled me to perceive but the features of his face I could not distinguish

Quick, there is a murder on the loose who only kills people wearing a blue coat.
What s the first thing you do? Do you wear your blue coat in defiance of the blue
coat killer? I mean, who is some murder to tell you what you can and cannot
wear?Do you hide it, I mean there s a murder so it common sense, right? But what
if you couldn t hide them? Now imagine that the blue coat killer is a euphemism for
the oppression in our society, and the blue coats are the things being oppressed in
people, whether it be race, genderor class. Some oppressed people wanted to fight
the oppression, like the people who would wear coats in defiance, while others
would try and hide away the things that were oppressed, like there class or their...

By instilling the belief of the worthlessness of a woman in the women, it is easier to
take advantage and to get them to be compliant with the life that saddens them.
Esperanza says, She looked out the window her whole life, the way so many
women sit their sadness on an elbow (Cisnero 11). Consequently, this implies that
women have to watch out the window as the world goes on without them. They
have to watch their lives pass by without them. This reality depresses the women of
Mango Street, because they had to give up their hopes and dreams solely because
they were women. Many of the women are still young, but were forced into
marriages by societal expectations. Esperanza says, Rafaela, who is still young, but
is getting old from leaning out the window so much, gets locked indoors because
her husband is afraid Rafaela will run away since she is too beautiful to look at
(Cisnero 79). While this implies that women were depressed with their situations, it
also implies that the men in this society have final say and ultimate rule in the
home. The role of women in society is to listen to the men and do whatever they are
instructed to do. Now, Esperanza doesn t plan on taking these societal expectations
laying down, and with the support of her community, she can make her dreams come
true. She has hopes and dreams that she intends to fulfill, no matter what others want
from or for her. She will have get own house, her own job, and her own life,
53. Police Interrogations And False Confessions
Police Interrogations and False Confessions
Introduction
Police interrogation is a technique that police have used to gather information from
anyone involved with a crime for hundreds of years. Police interrogations can last a
few minutes to several hours. The police have a right to continue questioning the
suspect until they ask for a lawyer (Kassin, 2013). The suspects call for a lawyer is a
right under the Miranda Rights. In the process of interrogation, the police are not
allowed to use cruel or any unusual methods to collect information, the law agents
are trained with techniques to get the suspects to answer all the questions. However,
this is not usually the case because sometimes the police go overboard in getting the
suspects to answer their questions. This interrogation in some cases has led to false
confessions leading to the wrong charging of the suspects. An approximate of one out
of four confessions includes false confessions (Redlich, 2009). The false confessions
made by suspects beg the question on how the police influence false confessions. This
research will discuss the various techniques used by the police in interrogating
suspects and how they misuse the systems to influence false confessions.
Police Tactics and False Confessions
From the recent times, there have been various high profile cases of people being
exonerated, often by DNA evidence, after falsely giving false confessions to a crime
or offence that they did not commit. People who often fall
54. Zoos In The Zoo
Even in the midst of a technological revolution, we try to preserve the natural greens
and wildlife; be it parks, pets, or small house plants. The society today might regard a
zoo for its famed wild animals standing high and mighty within the concrete jungle,
but is that what truly happens in confinement as well?
Zoos are first and foremost for people not animals. Zoos exist to serve the human
gaze though they portray themselves as the arks of the animal kingdom, safeguarding
the future of biodiversity. And it is true that many zoos do have conservation,
breeding, and reintroduction programs, which are certainly noble projects. But what
about the rest of the animals that are not endangered? At the National Zoo, only one

Others might argue that zoos preserve species whose habitat has been destroyed or
wiped out. The zoos suggest that they sustain the species in captivity until the cause
of expiration is fixed, and then successfully reintroduce the animals to the wild,
resulting in a healthy, self sustaining population but in truth. Animal theme parks are
basically zoos; however, they are more into the entertainment aspect of the animals
for the people, at the animals expense. Animal theme parks, such as Sea World, tend
to show off the animals, ride the animal, and put them on display for the tourists
entertainment.
We, as humans, take our own liberty quite seriously. Indeed, we consider liberty to be
one of our inalienable rights. But too many of us apparently feel no obligation to
grant the same right to animals, who, because they cannot defend themselves against
our sophisticated methods of capture and because they do not speak our language,
cannot claim it for
55. Onward And Upward In The Garden By EB White
Across the nation, school aged children read many different novels. Teachers teach
students at a young age to dig deeper into the meaning of stories. This is evident in
one famous novel, known as Charlotte s Web. Elwyn Brooks (EB) White is known
as one of the greatest American writers, because of his symbolic children s novels
and unique style. EB was born on July 11, 1899, in Mount Vernon, New York. He
was the youngest child of Samuel Tilly White and Jessie Hart White. EB claims he
never liked the name Elwyn, and in an interview with The New York Times, he said,
My mother just hung it on me because she d run out of names (Biography.com par 2).

When Katharine s book, Onward and Upward in the Garden, was published, EB
wrote the introduction saying, Life without Katharine is no good for me. One
could not deny that EB White loved his wife with everything he had. The time
period of which EB White lived very much affected his works. In the time of EB
White s life, he experienced many different historical events that greatly influenced
his writings. Some of these include World War I, the Great Depression, the
bombing of Pearl Harbor, World War II, Mccarthyism, the Civil Rights
Movement,Red China, and the Cold War. The time period in which EB lived was
one of the most turbulent times as far as history goes. One of EB s most beloved
novels is Charlotte s Web, published in 1952, which is about the friendship
between a spider and a pig. One day, he spotted a spider spinning an egg sac in his
barn, which inspired him to begin writing Charlotte s Web. This book is notable
for its usage of rhythm in its context (The Famous People par 18) His niece
encouraged him to begin writing children s books. His unique titles drew the
attention of young readers. The plot line of Charlotte s Web is very interesting, and
one would be surprised in how much can happen in the life of a pig, which contains
many ups and downs. From the very beginning of the story, it is recognized by
readers that Wilbur is in a whole lot of trouble. Right after his birth, Papa Arbale
