Essay Introduction Paragraph Example
Crafting an essay on the topic of "Essay Introduction Paragraph Example" might initially seem
like a straightforward task, but delving into the intricacies of creating an effective introduction
can prove to be quite challenging. The difficulty lies in striking the right balance between
capturing the reader's attention, providing a concise overview of the essay's content, and
establishing a clear thesis statement.
Firstly, choosing the appropriate hook to engage the audience requires careful consideration.
Whether it's a compelling anecdote, a thought-provoking question, or a relevant quote, the
challenge lies in selecting an approach that aligns with the overall tone and purpose of the essay.
Balancing creativity with relevance can be a delicate task, as an overly elaborate introduction
might overshadow the main points of the essay.
Additionally, crafting a thesis statement that encapsulates the essence of the essay without
revealing too much can be tricky. The introduction serves as a roadmap for the reader, and
formulating a thesis that is both intriguing and informative requires a thorough understanding of
the essay's objectives.
Moreover, addressing the expectations of the target audience and maintaining a coherent flow
throughout the introduction pose additional challenges. Ensuring that each sentence contributes
to the overall coherence and sets the stage for the subsequent paragraphs requires careful
planning and revision.
In conclusion, while the topic of "Essay Introduction Paragraph Example" may seem
approachable, the actual process of writing such an essay involves navigating the nuances of
effective introduction crafting. It demands a combination of creativity, clarity, and conciseness.
However, for those seeking assistance, various resources are available. Similar essays and more

Callaway Golf Company
Callaway Golf Company (CGC) Harvard Business School Case Study Ely Callaway
had a vision, If we make a truly more satisfying product for the average golfer, not
the professionals, and make it pleasingly different from the competition, the company
would be successful (Lal Prescott, 2011, p. 1). Key factors that led to Callaway s
success included his vision, his understanding of consumer behavior, his product
variety, and his ability to build a premium brand. Furthermore, the company s
relationship with its retail partners, the company s new product development, and the
company s marketingstrategy were key contributors to Callaway Golf Companys

Annual plan controls helped determine if the new product results were being

losing money. Efficiency controls balanced the spending and marketing
expenditures. Strategic controls confirmed whether the company was targeting
the best opportunities with the retailers, media, and advertising (Kotler Keller,
2009, p. 331 333). Richard Helmstetter, vice president and chief of new products,
joined Callaway Hickory Stick, Inc. in 1986. He transformed CGC . . . from a
niche producer to an innovation powerhouse. . . (Lal and Prescott, 2000, p. 2).
Helmstetter viewed research and development differently than others in the
industry. He challenged the scientists, engineers, and golfers he had hired to
answer questions like Where does backspin come from? and Why does a shot on
the club toe hook left instead of right? (p. 2). Helmstetter was correct in believing
that by answering these types of questions the company would create better clubs.
New product innovations included the development of the S2H2 (short, straight,
hollow, hosel) model which redistributed the weight of the hosel. This allowed the
weight to be better utilized elsewhere in the club. Following the S2H2 model was
the development of the Big Bertha. It was a club with a bigger club head. The larger

Greece, Asia Minor, the entire Mediterranean coast of the Middle East, and even as

found in Minoan Crete, so we can tell that there was a high degree of exchange

Religion: The Minoan civilisation was primarily a polytheist group, which was the
larger religious group in the ancient east region. The Minoan society was known to

The Malaysian Dilemma
MALAYSIAN DILEMMA SOLUTIONS Racial tolerance and unity are important
in a multiracial country like Malaysia. However, there are many challenges faced
by the prime minister and Malaysian that prevent the country from becoming a
peaceful and harmonious country. For example, we can see a lot of controversial
issue in Tun Dr. Mahathir s book titled The Malay Dilemma . The Malay Dilemma
was written by Tun Dr. Mahathir Mohamad in 1970 with 188 pages that focused on
Malay s weakness which they do not change their attitudes due to lack of knowledge
influenced by hereditary and environmental factors. The book also describes Malay
economy, government policies, and racial equality. Recently, a lot of issues that
make Malay dilemma become Malaysian dilemma today. Thus, we as Malaysians
must take actions to create the peace and harmony of the country. The controversial
issue in The Malay dilemma book that has become Malaysian dilemma today is
about racism. The racism issues started rising after 13 May 1969 incident. This
incident occurs when Malays and Chinese are having a big fight as Chinese

Humor And Lust In The Miller s Tale
Geoffrey Chaucer makes an interesting case in The Miller s Tale. He makes readers
wonder if all the characters got what they deserved. Did John deserve to break both
his arms and lose his wife? Did Nicholas deserve to get a blisstered bum? Did
Absolon deserve to be farted on? He uses humor and lust to make a mockery of The
Knight s Tale told before The Miller s Tale. A noble tale followed by a vulgar tale.
John a very gullible and innocent carpenter is married to a beautiful 18 year old who
he knows will make him a cuckold. In The Miller s Tale, Nicholas tells John, There ll
be a fall of rain so fierce a spate Even Noah s Flood was never half so great. (89).
John believes that because Nicholas can supposedly tell if it will rain or not.
Loisel s The Necklace
It seems a desire in human nature to want more and more things for the sake of
having them and for treasuring them. No matter the amount or cost some people have
the tendency to obtain as much as they can get, because they can never have enough
stuff. The character of Madame Mithilde Loisel from the short story, The Necklace,
without a doubt has this trait. Monsieur and Madame (M. and Mme.) Loisel are a
couple living in Paris. Mme. Loisel, although beautiful, is very unhappy with the
life she has been given. One day, M. Loisel receives an invite to a nighttime ball,
but Mme. Loisel refuses to go unless she has something marvelous to showcase
herself with. Her husband manages to obtain a dress for her, and she manages to get
a necklace from an old friend, Mme. Forestier. Once M. and Mme. Loisel return from
their amazing night at the ball, Mithilde realizes that she has... Show more content on

Loisel is something that ultimately shapes the events that occur in the story.
Although she is in the middle to low class part of society, she believes that she has
the right to everything for her to be perfect. [Mithilde] believes that superficial
things a large house, a ball gown, and better furniture will truly make her happy (
The Necklace ). It is said that she is stunning and absolutely beautiful, but she [felt]
that she had been born for all of the little necessities and luxuries for living
(Maupassant, 70). The blindness of her beauty and her dreams of riches lead to
the conflict within the story. When invited to attend a ball with her husband, Mme.
Loisel refuses because she does not have the proper attire. Her invitation to the
party reminded her of her lack of jewels and ball gems. ( The Necklace ). Her
husband is unable to maintain a dress which is good enough by itself, but Mithilde
argues that it has to be as perfect as it can be and it could not be completed without
some sort of accessory, and that accessory will lead to her
Leading By Examples
Leading by example is no fictional idea. Vocabulary.com describes a leader as the
one in charge, the person who convinces other people to follow (Leader). Examples
of leadership are shown all through history, sports, and even in school districts.
Famous protesters and leaders in history made a difference when they led by
example, the coach of a sports team is necessary for that team s success, and groups
like Student Council are all examples of leadership. There is leadership everywhere,
and far off from being an idea of fiction; it is a reality.
History has many great leaders that lead as an example for others. Mahatma Gandhi
was maybe the greatest example of leadership in history. Gandhi was thrown off of
a train due to his racial background and he felt like he had to do something about it.
Gandhi decided to stand up and organized the Indian community to help him with
non violent protest. He stood up for what he believed in and lead everyone who
agreed with him. One man, in particular, followed in what Gandhi believed in and
that man was Martin Luther King Jr. Martin Luther King Jr., the leader of the Civil

Sports teams, whether it is school organized or at the national and major leagues,
have someone leading them. It all starts from the beginning of your sports career.
Let us use baseball as an example. The little leagues are where you are taught
everything from how to hit the ball, how to catch the ball and all of the technique
in between. Coaches are who teach and lead the players. They teach each player all
of the techniques because they are being the leaders by example. Without the
coaches to lead the players, then they would not be properly trained and would not
get the proper help when they do not know how to do something. Having someone to

I Am Sam Movie Review
I am Sam I am Sam is a 2001 American drama film written and directed by Jessie
Nelson, starring Sean Penn as Sam who has an intellectual disability that had sole
care for his daughter Lucy Diamond played by Dakota Fanning. The two of them
encounter problems with the Department of Child and Family Services as they
believe the presence of Sam s intellectual disability negates his ability to parent. A
lawyer Rita Harrison played by Michelle Pfeiffer plays an important role in this
film as she is the only one to have belief in Sam s ability to parent. This M rated
film has won awards such as the Stanley Kramer award for their ability to place an
emphasis on social concerns. People with disabilities are often discriminated
against the rest of society as a result of their impairments. Jessie Nelson s use of
mis en scene and semiotic elements engage the members of the audience to
position them to have their own perspective of Sam s situation as presented. The
scene that I have chosen to analyse approaches the climax of the film where
problems begin to arise between Sam and Lucy as the department of Child and
Family Services believe Sam is an unfit parent. This has come to attention as Lucy
is becoming smarter surpassing Sam s intellectual ability. Although Sean Penn is far
from being limited in his ability to express himself, he was able to convey such a
condition with precise detail used in his body expressions and dialogue in a complex
manner. This would not have been

b) In todays society, money balances can be easily switches to accounts on which
checks can be written to accounts paying interest. This alters the M1 because these
checking accounts are in M1 but interest paying accounts are not making for an

c) The main problem is the relationship between spending and M1. This created
conflict for a policy targeting on M1 growth because as we know, M2 velocity is

WorkPlay is Helping Musician s Dreams Come True
In Birmingham, Alabama, a popular music venue is helping musician s dreams
come true. WorkPlay sits on the corner of 5th Avenue South and 23rd Street South,
and musicians from all over the world come to play on one of the two stages this
venue has. However, on Monday nights at 7pm WorkPlay hosts a singer/songwriter
competition in the theater. These musicians come from all over the state to play on
this stage for 10 weeks. Performing on stage is a dream for many musicians around
town and WorkPlay is making those dreams a reality.
Last summer WorkPlay announced they would be doing a singer/songwriter night
that would lead to each of the top ten musicians having a song recorded live and
played on Birmingham Mountain Radio. The contest would run in a similar fashion
to American Idol. The audience members would pick up a ballot at the box office and
vote on each musician on a scale of 1 10. There were nights that musicians would not
stop playing until 11:30pm. American Idol contestant, Jessica Muese, won the
competition, which ended in August 2013. Ellis Hopkins, the man in charge,
announced at the final show that there would be another singer/songwriter
competition at WorkPlay soon. Soon became January 2014.
January 27, 2014 had musicians gathering again for the competition. This time they
would be able to win a $250 cash prize. Several musicians from the fall competition
came back to perform and many new faces came as well. Edward Hartline, who

How did you respond to THE GRADUATE? Did the storyline and characters hold
your interest?
What about Benjamin Braddock (played by Dustin Hoffman)? Did you in any way
relate to his issues: specifically, what will he end up doing with his life now that he is
a college graduate; what will his future be; will he ever genuinely fall in love?
And even more specifically: How did you respond to the finale, and to what occurs
both in the church and on the bus?
Also, what about the infamous Mrs. Robinson (Anne Bancroft)? Was she little more
than a villainess: a completely selfish, self centered person? Or was there something
deeper within her? Was there a sense of sadness about her, a feeling that she was
living a life unfulfilled?

Inequality In Flowers Of AlgernonBy Kurt Vonnegut

Analysis Essay Throughout history, there has been inequalities in many areas of
civilizations. This can be seen in ancient times when there were kings and queens
and common people and can even be seen today with rich and poor. Some groups
have tried to push for equality for all, while others push against it. There is no
example through history where pure equality is achieved. One example of inequality
in current day, is the fact that housing costs have soared in the Denver metro area,
while wages have stayed still. This has caused lower wage earners to downgrade
housing or even become homeless. In ВЁFlowers of AlgernonВЁ by Daniel Keys the
story talked about a guy named Charlie, who was mentally impaired, who got an
operation done to make him smart. In ВЁHarrison BergeronВЁ by Kurt Vonnegutit
addresses how the government felt that they were more important than everyone else.
They made people with above average intelligence and beauty wear masks or
headphones to impair them so that they were equal to the average people. The theme
of the stories is perfect equality cannot exists because it causes depression and more
inequality.
In ВЁHarrison Bergeron by Kurt Vonnegut, the government tried to make above
average people impaired so that everyone would be equal. The government failed
because no one was really equal. The people with above average beauty were
required to wear masks so that no one could really see how beautiful they were. In
the text, it states, Their faces were masked, so that no one, seeing a free and graceful
gesture feel like something the cat drug in . (Bergeron 2) Harrison, the main
character, realized that the handicaps were not making him equal to everyone they
were actually making him depressed and angry. In the text, it states, Harrison the
straps of his handicaps harness like wet tissue paper, tore straps guaranteed to
support five thousand pounds. (Bergeron 5) This proves my point because the
government thinks that they are more important than everyone else by requiring
these handicaps. There are many ways to express yourself but in ВЁHarrison
BergeronВЁ they showed how to make people unequal and impaired. In the story, not

notice several things right away. We can see that a large chunk (54%) of its assets is
in cash and marketable securities. From this fact we can deduce that this firm does a
majority of their business with consumers and not other businesses. On the liabilities
side, we can see that the company has large percentages of accounts payable and long
term debt (37% and 41% respectively). When we put these pieces of information we
can see how a department store can have financial data that is consistent with firm A.

Rwanda Genocide Compared to Blood Done Sign My Name
From April to July of 1994 terror struck Rwanda as Hutu members of the nation
brutally maimed, raped, and killed around 800,000 Tutsi members, along with partial
Hutu members. Leading up to the genocide, there was tension between both
ethnicities. Over the decades, people of the Hutu ethnicity took power of the country,
in fact, Major General Juvenal Habyarimana, a moderate Hutu, took office for over
ten years (History.com Staff, 2009). Correspondingly, in years leading up to the

Americans was being harshly discriminated against. In the 1900s, slavery was no

outraged. They were mad that the Teel family had not been arrested and people
were going to make sure they said something about it. African Americans, and
some whites took to the streets, they burned buildings and vandalized possessions.
Nobody said anything to them; the mayor watched as they destroyed the town,
they just let them go. African Americans were outraged. The only reason the Teel s

to fight back and express their opinions. Even smaller children were doing what
they saw the older blacks doing. For example, when Tim and Jeff were walking
home one day from school, Jeff thought it d be fun to throw something some black
kids standing across the street. After throwing it, the black children retaliated. They
threw objects back, and then chased Tim and Jeff most of the way home. Rwanda
genocide victims tried to take refuge in places that they thought were places that they

where they were then just as brutally murdered as any other Tutsi member. Nobody

From the start, America was unique in that it experimented with democratic ideals to
form one of the first republics since the ancient Greeks and Romans. A republic is
unique because the power resides in elected individuals representing the citizens
(republic). This idea of power to the people was evident early on in state constitutions.
State constitutions tended to emphasize fundamental freedoms like that of religion,
speech, and the press. The Constitution of Massachusetts established a state
government that was nearly identical to the one adopted in the United States
Constitution which replaced the Articles of Confederation. Being the first modern
republic came with its challenged, but it is now widely regarded as a hallmark of
American culture. The first one hundred years were essential in that they defined a

dominant foreign powers Britain and France, to reevaluate accepted social

The Causes And Consequences Of The First Crusades
Going against modern day religious beliefs, in 1095AD the Christians went to war
to claim the holy city of Jerusalem, massacring the Muslims in a bloody attempt to
worship their God. Pope Urban II s speech at Clermont inspired by claims made by
the Byzantium Emperor encouraged the Christians to partake in the First Crusade
in an attempt to liberate Jerusalem. The religious and economic factors were the
most relevant to cause this crusade, with some influence from desired political gain
and little from social factors unrelated to religion. The immediate consequences
were positive for the Christians and negative for the Muslims, but the First Crusade
launched an ongoing conflict between the Christians and Muslims which had
positive and negative consequences for both sides. There are a number of relevant
modern sources which examine the causes and consequences of the First Crusade,
but, while there are many medieval sources, they do not explicitly discuss the
causes and consequences of the war. In order to fully comprehend the First
Crusade, it is necessary to analyse the religious, economic, and political factors, as
well as the short term, long term, and modern consequences. The modern book
source which proves the most useful in discussing the causes and consequences of
the First Crusade is Crusades: The Illustrated History, by Thomas Madden. Madden
is an extremely reliable source, as he is considered to be an authority on the
Crusades, with a BA, MA, and PhD in history.
Causes Of A Blocked Drain In Bomber Bridge
A blocked drain in Bamber Bridge is no joke! This often occurs at the most
inopportune time when you least expect it, or when you have a house full of
guests. Rather than trying out home remedies to sort out a blocked drain, speak to
a professional drain cleaning company. They will be able to determine the cause of
the blocked drain and the best method of solving the problem. Blocked drains are
caused by a multitude of different things and a drain cleaning company can find
the source of the problem, repair it, and advise you on how to keep your drains
working the way they should. For your home in Bamber Bridge, a blocked drain
could be caused by excess fat washing down your kitchen sink. In the bathroom, the
shower drain can become blocked
Oil Companies And Economic Power
Oil Companies and Economic Power
Introduction
In the modern world energy has become very important since it helps drive most
industrial as well as home based activities. The process that leads to production of
the world s largest energy provider, Oil, however has continued to receive criticism.
This is so since production of Gasoline, Natural Gas, Kerosene as well as other
components present in crude oil leads to some forms of environmental pollution.
This has led to devastating climatic changes around the world which has in turn led
to loss of lives and property. In the course of transporting crude oil to refinery
stations, cases of oil spillages into oceans and other water bodies occur. The result is

Oil companies operate in defined regions where oil exploration and possible drilling
is done. However some companies such as Shell BP engage in international drilling
and distribution of oil products. Below are some of the most renowned oil companies
in their constituent continents: Africa: Sasol of South of South Africa and National
Petroleum Company of Congo. In Asia some of the leading oil companies include
Nobel Group and the Bahrain Oil Company. It is important to note that Asia has a
lot of oil resources and hence have extensive oil drilling activities. In Europe we
have Partex oil and Gas Company, in South America three is Bridas Corporation
based in Argentina. North America has one of the most advanced technology in the
oil industry. These companies have extended their activities around the globe in a
bid to discover more oil resources to sustain future energy requirements. Some
North America companies include Shell Oil Company and the Apache
Corporation. This paper will focus on the importance of oil companies over and
above the problems that they pose to the environment as well as the political
stability of the world. For practical examples I chose to use the state of Alaska
where oil companies have based their operations as a case study.

The Importance Of Conservation During The Progressive
Era
Conservation was the most important reform, from this time period, since it
worked towards protecting the United State s physical environment which leads to
obtaining the essential resources of nature, preserving the naturality of the planet,
and living a higher quality of life. During the Progressive Era the Second Industrial
Revolution was in action, sprouting new technological advancements and ground
breaking creations or processes. During this era, new inventions were being made
and big monopolies were increasing their use of natural resources to a point where
it was becoming harmful. One of the areas of resources that was becoming
alarmingly low was forests and lumber, leading to the Forest Reserve Act of 1891.
This act, which occurred during the conservation reform, allowed the president to
choose forests of interests and claim them as reserves, protecting them from being
harmed or negatively affected by big businesses. With the Forest Act many other
acts protecting the Earth s resources sprung up as well. All of the acts that were
passed restricted important resources from being wasted and blatantly used for
company production areas. These acts, enlisted in terms of the government, would
allow the president to choose areas in which resources could always exist and
couldn t be overused. The areas chosen would include places with plentiful natural
assets and a large range of land. This early protection against the act of
overharvesting, lead to people being able to
Colonization of America
When the Europeans had discovered America, the possibilities for them were endless.
Although mistakenly discovered, it greatly aroused the curiosity of many European
explorers. There were new opportunities for them to expand, and in more than just
one way. Chances to spread religion, boost their economy, and help themselves
politically. As soon as Columbus returned, the pope issued a decree saying the world
itself was an inheritance of Christianity. Spainand Portugal, the two main Christian
powers at the time, set out to spread Christianity all across the world following the
Treaty of Tordesillas in 1494. What better place to start then with the new found land
of the Americas. As soon as the Europeans figured out a reason, they began... Show

This created a large amount of wealth, and more and more markets and ports began to
appear across America. A supply had been created and demand followed, creating
economic success. Merchants and their ships increased and carried materials such as
cloth and wool between European and American ports, and an economic boom with a
steady population increase to show for it. This pushed exploration further in all
directions, and they now had plenty of reasons to continue expansion. From the initial
dominance of Christianity to the Protestant Reformation, religious cause for
navigating toward America suited both sides. The political causes were justified in
the monarchies interest in the new land, creating a way to expand their control, but
eventually leading to war among one another. Economically, the Europeans benefited
extremely well, and for that reason alone gave them a strong incentive for
colonization in America. The three causes all relate with one another, and one cause
relies heavily on another. The Europeans exploration had not expected to encounter
such an opportunity, but with it came the success that eventually laid out the plans of
America to be something beyond what they thought
The Deaths And Causes Of The Black Death
The Black Death is a deadly disease that arrived in Europe by sea October 1347. It
was 12 Genoese trading ships that docked at the Sicilian port of a Messina after
their long travels through the Black Sea. When the people who gathered at the
dock was met with a horrific accident. Many people one the crew was dead and the
people who were alive was very ill. They weren t able to keep food down because of
the pain they were enduring, also overcoming a fever. But the weird thing was that
they were covered in mysterious black books that had blood and puss coming from
them. By the time they ordered for the ships to be taking away from the docks it
was already too late so over the next five years the Black Deathwould kill more than
20 million people in Europe and that s almost в…“ of Europe s population. Indeed,
even before the Death ships maneuvered into port at Messina, numerous Europeans
had heard bits of gossip about an Awesome Epidemic that was cutting a lethal way
over the exchange courses of the Close and Far East. (Ahead of schedule in the
1340s, the illness had struck China, India, Persia, Syria and Egypt.) Be that as it
may, they were hardly prepared for the ghastly reality of the Dark Demise. In men
and ladies alike, the Italian writer Giovanni Boccaccio expressed, toward the start of
the disease, certain swellings, either on the crotch or under the armpits... waxed to
the bigness of a typical apple, others to the measure of an egg, some more and some

Dracula vs Blade
Essay The Consequence Of Modernity
The context of a point of time in history greatly influences an author s idea to
create a story, and for someone else to evolve them. Events occurring within society
and the way people perceive other s at a time also contributes majorly to the
development of modernity. Bram Stoker s novel Dracula and David Goyer s film
Blade Trinity contrast significantly as a result of difference in context.
Weaponry had developed immensely over the two stories to cater for the
advancements from one classic vampire to a fresh, modern, powerful one. The story
of Dracula , set in Victorian times, consists of the simple, almost primitive weaponry,

Differing context can prove to not only impact how a character is portrayed
visually, but also how society perceives them, particularly with the uncertain
concept of vampires possibly still being a myth or legend within both texts. Stoker
s Dracula was generally feared by his surrounding community, and believers of
vampires tended to be over superstitious of the danger he may bring to people. The
myth of vampires was a topic infrequently found in an average conversation, as it
was dreaded that even discussion would transport cursed luck and risks.
Superstition is conveyed through the scene of the innkeeper s wife delivering the
ominous warning to Harker by cautioning him that All the evil things in the world
will have full sway , before placing the Crucifix around his neck as a religious
offering to hopefully serve the purpose of protection. This gives the effect that
Dracula has a power above others, simply because they are fearful of him. Also,
the way Dracula is written about expresses a sense that he may or may not
intentionally give off an unwelcoming presence that tends to linger and produce a
discomfort or fear among people within his surroundings, mostly in the earlier
chapters of the novel. The contrast in comparison to society s perception of Drake is
tremendous, as the myth or legend of vampires is far from a secret in the 21st
century world of Blade

After a successful landing for the crew, the men held to each other s elbows,
suddenly unable to breathe, it seemed. Their faces grew pale. (Bradbury 33). The
men were filled with fear as to what they saw: Mars looked exactly like the old
town on Earth they all grew up in. This portrayal of setting develops the fear of the
unknown because it is the exact opposite of what Mars was believed to look like.
Bradbury goes on to set this expedition in context chronologically with the previous
two mission. Some of the men believed that Captain Williams and his crew of three
men! Or Nathaniel York and his partner. would be able to justify how they had
landed in an Earthly town, but Captain Black pointed out the York expedition was
only a year ago, while Captain Williams and his men landed here some time during
last August. and William and his men, as well as York, landed on the opposite side
of Mars. (34). The men were looking for a justification as to why Mars was so
Earthlike, but Bradbury brilliantly counters all points through explicitly detailing the
setting as one that could not overlap with the present. This exudes fear of the
unknown as there is no given solution as to what lies ahead of Captain Black and his
The Effects Of Food On The Food Industry
There are currently two types of food systems that exist in our food shed. TINA,
which comes from Maggie Thatcher, who said, There Is No Alternative to global
economy T I N A (Shuman, 2002). And LOIS, which stands for Local Ownership
and Import Substitution (Shuman, 2002). TINA is the system that has been used
for the pasted 60 to 70 years, and throughout that time the way we produced are
food has become both productive and efficient; but it has also become destructive
and unhealthy. In A TINA based food economy, food is either mass produced
through the process of industrial farming or it is imported from other countries.
These lead to adverse effects on the food, the environment and the economy.
However, in a LOIS based food economy, food is produced locally through locally
owned businesses, then the more you can minimize your vulnerability to nasty
surprises, the more you can maximize your economic multiplier, and the more you
can maximize tax proceeds to the public sector and the many good things that
come from it. (Shuman, 2002). So in simpler terms the more you produce locally,
the better local economies will be and if local economies have a large income then
the nations income will increase by way of tax. Along with being good for our
economy, LOIS has little to no adverse effect on our environment or health.
Compared to TINA, LOIS looks like paradise, but just like every dream world, the
LOIS system is currently an impossible system to live by. As I said

Autistic Spectrum Disorder
Autistic spectrum disorder, otherwise known as autism, is a complex disorder of the
central nervous system and a developmental disability that comes from a neurological
disorder that affects the normal functioning of the brain. (Dowshen, 2008). It is not
something one can catch or pass along to someone else. It makes interacting with
other people incredibly difficult. Autismwas first identified in 1943 by Dr. Leo
Kanner of Johns Hopkins Hospital. Autism spectrumdisorder can usually be reliably

A very good amount of autistic children have very bad tempers. As a result,
numerous parents end up quitting their jobs to care for their autistic child. (Packard,
2009). Many people with autism also have other disorders of the central nervous
system, such as developmental disabilities, epilepsy, or schizophrenia. However, not
all children with autism are severely impacted. Autism persists through a person s
lifetime, although many people are able to learn to control and modify their
behavior to some extent. Some people are affected fairly mildly; several of these
individuals learn to live independent lives. Others more severely affected, require
lifelong care and supervision. (Dowshen, 2008). Most families of autistic children
also learn to get support from their parents and other children with autism. Some
children with mild autism will grow up and be able to live on their own. Those with
problems that are more serious will always need some kind of help, but all kids with
autism have brighter futures when they have support and understanding from their
doctors, teachers, caregivers, parents, brothers, sisters, and friends. (Dowshen, 2008).
At this point in time there is no cure for autism, but doctors, therapists, and special
teachers can help kids with autism overcome or adjust to many difficulties they have
to face. The earlier a child starts treatment for autism, the better because the best

Examples Of Foreshadowing In Esmeralda Santiago

Esmeralda Santiago did an outstanding job creating multiple themes that brought
the book all together and gave it a deeper meaning. One theme that I felt occurred
the most often throughout the book was coming of age. But it seemed to be more
than that, what I discovered that one theme was the development of a young girl
to a woman, and also truths being revealed about yourself and finding out who you
are as a person. The author depicts this theme throughout the book my telling us
readers what Esmeralda, Negi, was thinking about a certain situation and how she
felt about it. The author also does a great job of incorporating this theme in the
memoir by showing at the end of the book how much Negi has gone through and
how she has learned and grown from the experience. The characters and settings
that are in the book are used to develop the theme by creating events in the settings
that the characters, Esmeralda and her family, have to assess, react, and learn and
develop from what happened. This is what, to me made the book so interesting
and added to depth to what the author was trying to say. The theme in the book has
definitely impacted me in some way. It made me realize that there are going to be
difficult times in my life, but you can conquer them with persistence and passion.

The Importance Of Stereotyping In Society
A stereotype is a way to determine where a person or thing falls in the realm of life.
Stereotyping is a natural part of life and it actually does have a meaning in reality.
It allows a person s mind to work properly and for the human brain to be able to
recognize, process, store and then recall the information when needed.
Stereotyping is a big problem in society. It labels a person about how they should
live or act according to their sex, race, and personality. In all work forces it is a law
to not discriminate against employees or other people in the facility. It can also be
used in racial, political, religious, and many more ways. Stereotyping in a racial
way is judging people by the color of their skin, where they come from, or the
language they speak. Stereotyping can be a big issue in many professional
businesses and environments. It can affect people s lives and the way of doing
things. Stereotypes also are creating a false idea of how people interact with other
individuals. Many of the stereotypes children receive are through media. People
should be careful when stereotyping or just keep their thoughts to themselves.
Stereotyping will never go away because it helps humansto process information about
things and people.

It wasn t until Carthage broke the treaty by waging war against Numidia that Rome
waged war. Pushing The Limit
In 149 BC, Rome finally declared war on Carthage after the treaty was broken.
Rome sent soldiers by the tens of thousands. This included an army of 80,000 infantry
and 4,000 cavalry. When the Romans arrived with their army to Carthage the
Carthaginians panicked and followed any order the Romans gave in an attempt to
prevent war.
But the Romans wanted to push them into war. They made them hand over 200,000
sets of armor, give up their weapons, and other such commands.
Even with these orders the Carthaginians still complied. It was clear to the Romans,
they had to find a way to push the people of Carthage to the limit.
So finally, Rome ordered them to leave the city of Carthage and settle somewhere at

Sports, Males And Masculinities By Richard Pringle Essay
Reading Response Sport, Males and Masculinities by Richard Pringle
Prior to the late 1980s, there has not been a great deal of research done around the
between masculinity and its relationship or influence with sport, but it appears that in
recent times it has been widely researched with various different theories and
concepts developing from this research.
The article looks to shed light on the concept of male participation in sports,
particularly heavy contact sports, and its relationship or influential nature in
developing a male identity or a masculinity dependant on sport.
One of the key concepts detailed by Pringle (2007), is the idea of hegemonic
masculinity, which was originally coined by Connell (1995). Connell suggest that the
concepts of hegemony and masculinity have been intertwined, which has created a
social form of a masculine ideal, developed around male dominance, power and
patriarchy over groups who are deemed weaker such as women and homosexual men.
Hegemonic masculinity is essentially a socially elite or desirable status, with which
the performance of masculinity can be legitimately practised within society.
This definition has led to a great source of division between genders, and Connell
goes on to say that there is now a gender order which is essentially a form of hierarchy
(in addition to sexism), brought about by his concept of hegemonic masculinity
(Connell, 2002).

At the end of the 19th century the Spanish American War was fought between the
United States, and Spain. The war started a new beginning for three nations, the
United States, Cuba and Spain. At the end of the war an empire would fall and new
one would be created and Cuba would become an independent nation. Though battles
were fought all over the world the war itself was mostly about Cuban Independence.
During the latter half of 19th century Cubawas under the control of Spain. Cuba,
Spain s oldest large colony in the New World, was still its proudest possession
(Somerlott, 2002) the quick destruction of Spanish forces ended there rule in the

He was soon arrested and tried for treason and later excelled to Spain. He had
served six years at hard labor in a rock quarry in Cuba and Spain as punishment
(Jeffers, 1996) In 1881 Marti was back in the US writing with newspapers on the
injustices that were going on in Latin America. Unfortunately he soon realized the
only way independence from Spain was to come was thought war. After aligning
himself with militants 1884 he began the overthrow of the government. In 1894
Marti and a small group of insurgents landed on the island of Cuba. After a brief
struggle Marti was killed. On May 20, near the little town of Dos Rios, Jose Marti
took a Spanish bullet through the heart (Jeffers, 1996) His sacrifice would
galvanized a nation for independence and soon they look to the US for help. In
1895 after decades of futile revolt, a simmering Cuba erupted into a full scale war
for independence, Spanish reaction was swift and brutal (Somerlott, 2002) On
February 15, 1898 the USS Maine a battleship sent to Cuba with the purpose of
escorting and protecting Americans mysteriously exploded Havana harbor. The ship
sank with the loss of 260 Sailors. The American press wanting war stoked the fires of
hate across the nation. Using unproven accusations of sabotage at Spain war was
inevitable. The explosion which destroyed the Maine was the
The Belief Of Organized Religion
The Belief of Organized Religion All over the world there is some kind of
conspiracy. One is the Organized Church Conspiracy or the Organized Religion
Conspiracy. Many people think that Organized Religion is a source of evil, however
it can be a source of wars, genocide and dogmatism but, An Organized Religionis a
faithsystem with an over arching structure worship practices, and administrate the
organization (What Is Organized Religion and Does the Bible Support It?). The
Organized Religion Conspiracy or Faith System is evidently proven by telling us
how religion is a form of mind control, how organized religion is affecting human
population, and how religions are in the world around us. In America there are many
people who have lots... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Many people say that the government controls people s thoughts of organized
religion. Entering the Monastic life means renouncing your own will once and for
all, ready to do at every moment of the day for the rest of your life what you are
obligated to do by the monastic routine and the abbot of the community
(Andino).Organized Religion means a variety of things. When God showed himself
in some strange way, it left humans with some depositum of spiritual knowledge
from which all the knowledge of gods origin. If this was not a case, no human
institution could legitimately claim the authority to organize religion and promulgate
a normative set of propositions for the belief and forms of worship (Andino). Since
no one is perfect, God has to provide some ways of showing his depositum the part of
the humans to whom entrusted his revelation. This means that, God is always
working during hard times and is always trying to make everything better so people
can make the right choices in life. An organized religion must operate in time and in
human society, some sort of organizational structure would have to emerge to identify
the dwelling place of that truth, which allows us to identify that we are in
communion with those who believed that faith and that we are receiving the
authentic revelation, and not come corrupted or incomplete imitation (Andino).
Mainly everything we do requires faith. We can either believe that an organized

What You Pawn I Will Redeem
One of the most important literary elements in every story is the use of setting. The
time and place of a story plays a key role in the readers understanding of the piece. In
some stories though, the setting is more important than in others. In the story, The
Appropriation of Cultures, by Percival Everett the story would have a much different
effect if the setting changed. In Sherman Alexie s story, What You Pawn I Will
Redeem, the setting could change in multiple ways and we would still be reading a
great story.
The Appropriation of Cultures, is a story based in the south about a man who takes it
upon himself to destroy the negative connotation of the Confederate flag to African
Americans. Slavery and racism have always been a much larger issue in the south
than in the north. The story tells us that Daniel, the main character, spent ... Show

The Appropriation of Cultures, is set in a time period where racism and
segregation were very high. When Daniel buys the truck from the white family
you see their confusion with him breaking through racism. Daniel said, I was just
lucky enough to find a truck with the black power flag already on it. (p.28) He is
referring to the Confederate flag as the black power flag and Travis and Barb are
shocked that he is not letting the negative connotation of the flag impact him.
Later in the story Daniel is being questioned about the flag on the back of his truck
by some white men, when a few young black men come to see what the problem is.
Daniel tells them that, They were admiring our flag. (p.29) The element of racism
and segregation is very important in the story and it wouldn t be the same had the
story been in a different time period. The story wouldn t have made sense had it
been before the Civil War because there would be no confederate flag to right about.
Setting is crucial to a story because the details of where and when make it
Canterbury Tales Rumour Opinion Essay
At Canterbury, a rumour can take many shapes. Most of the time it isn t serious, it
is the kind of talk that brings people together. Rumours are interesting anecdotes
you hear by your locker . They are what you discuss when you re sitting amongst a
group of friends; what keeps the hallways and small talk fresh. Truthfully, a rumour
is never as disastrous as it was in this episode, especially at our school. In fact, it s
mostly kept between groups of people and is never this deliberate . The rumours
displayed in this episode are both the epitome of an extreme rumour. The gun and
the incident between Angela and Jordan are both in the center of everyone s minds.
It is no longer small talk. It s the only thing on the minds of both students and
parents. The more exciting a rumour is, the easier it is spread. No one wants to keep
it to themselves. They feel the urge to share it immediately, and become the one that
everyone is listening to.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In this episode, it s obvious that whoever started the rumour didn t do it
unintentionally. Raged at Angela s lying to him, Brian started the rumour,
knowing how to get the entire school interested. This rumour wasn t simply small
talk between friends; it was fake and deliberate. Angela, the victim of the rumour,
enabled it become her entire life. She knew it was untrue and she felt it had
opened everyone s eyes to her true self . She became a nervous wreck in the halls,
took everything twice as seriously and became extremely sensitive to the events
around her. The rumour was following her and defining her identity. Unlike Angela,
Jordan remained relatively cool, trying to solve the issue for the two. Before this
episode Jordan was Angela s crush, but afterwards he became his own person.
Although he lacked basic skills in problem solving, he broke out of his shell to help

Reaction Paper On Gels
1. Introduction
1.1.Gels
1.1.1. Definition
The word gel is derived from gelatin and can be traced back to the Latin gelu for frost
and gelare, meaning freeze or congeal . (1)
According to the U. S. Pharmacopeia (USP), gels are defined as semisolid systems
consisting of either suspensions made up of small inorganic particles or large organic
molecules interpenetrated by a liquid . (2)
Gels are also defined as two component semi rigid systems in which the liquid
continuous phase is immobilized by a cross linked three dimensional network
consisting of particles or solvated macromolecules in the disperse phase. (2,3) This
disperse phase can be constituted by inorganic particles or organic macromolecules,
primarily polymers. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This process is referred to as swelling. This phenomenon occurs as the solvent
penetrates the matrix. Gel gel interactions are replaced by gel solvent interactions.
The degree of swelling depends on the number of linkages between individual
molecules of gelling agent and on the strength of these linkages7, 8. B) Syneresis
Many gels often contract spontaneously on standing and exude some fluid medium.
This effect is known as syneresis. The degree to which syneresis occurs, increases
as the concentration of gelling agent decreases. The occurrence of syneresis
indicates that the original gel was thermodynamically unstable. The mechanism of
contraction has been related to the relaxation of elastic stress developed during the
setting of the gels. As these stresses are relieved, the interstitial space available for
the solvent is reduced, forcing the liquid out. C) Ageing Colloidal systems usually
exhibit slow spontaneous aggregation. This process is referred to as ageing. In gels,
ageing results in gradual formation of a denser network of the gelling agent. D)
Structure The rigidity of a gel arises from the presence of a network formed by the
interlinking of particles of the gelling agents. The nature of the particle and the stress,
straightening them out and lessening the resistance to

Essay Introduction Paragraph Example. How To Write An Introduction Paragraph For An Essay Examples

  • 1. Essay Introduction Paragraph Example Crafting an essay on the topic of "Essay Introduction Paragraph Example" might initially seem like a straightforward task, but delving into the intricacies of creating an effective introduction can prove to be quite challenging. The difficulty lies in striking the right balance between capturing the reader's attention, providing a concise overview of the essay's content, and establishing a clear thesis statement. Firstly, choosing the appropriate hook to engage the audience requires careful consideration. Whether it's a compelling anecdote, a thought-provoking question, or a relevant quote, the challenge lies in selecting an approach that aligns with the overall tone and purpose of the essay. Balancing creativity with relevance can be a delicate task, as an overly elaborate introduction might overshadow the main points of the essay. Additionally, crafting a thesis statement that encapsulates the essence of the essay without revealing too much can be tricky. The introduction serves as a roadmap for the reader, and formulating a thesis that is both intriguing and informative requires a thorough understanding of the essay's objectives. Moreover, addressing the expectations of the target audience and maintaining a coherent flow throughout the introduction pose additional challenges. Ensuring that each sentence contributes to the overall coherence and sets the stage for the subsequent paragraphs requires careful planning and revision. In conclusion, while the topic of "Essay Introduction Paragraph Example" may seem approachable, the actual process of writing such an essay involves navigating the nuances of effective introduction crafting. It demands a combination of creativity, clarity, and conciseness. However, for those seeking assistance, various resources are available. Similar essays and more can be easily accessed or even ordered on platforms like HelpWriting.net, providing valuable support for those grappling with the complexities of essay composition. Callaway Golf Company Callaway Golf Company (CGC) Harvard Business School Case Study Ely Callaway had a vision, If we make a truly more satisfying product for the average golfer, not the professionals, and make it pleasingly different from the competition, the company would be successful (Lal Prescott, 2011, p. 1). Key factors that led to Callaway s success included his vision, his understanding of consumer behavior, his product variety, and his ability to build a premium brand. Richard Helmstetter, vice president and chief of new products, joined Callaway Hickory Stick, Inc. in 1986. He transformed CGC . . . from a niche producer to an innovation powerhouse. . . (Lal and Prescott, 2000, p. 2). Helmstetter viewed research and development differently than others in the industry. He challenged the scientists, engineers, and golfers he had hired to answer questions like Where does backspin come from? and Why does a shot on the club toe hook left instead of right? (p. 2). Helmstetter was correct in believing that by answering these types of questions the company would create better clubs. New product innovations included the development of the S2H2 (short, straight, hollow, hosel) model which redistributed the weight of the hosel. This allowed the weight to be better utilized elsewhere in the club. Following the S2H2 model was the development of the Big Bertha. It was a club with a bigger club head. • 6. Humor And Lust In The Miller s Tale Geoffrey Chaucer makes an interesting case in The Miller s Tale. He makes readers wonder if all the characters got what they deserved. Did John deserve to break both his arms and lose his wife? Did Nicholas deserve to get a blisstered bum? Did Absolon deserve to be farted on? He uses humor and lust to make a mockery of The Knight s Tale told before The Miller s Tale. A noble tale followed by a vulgar tale. John a very gullible and innocent carpenter is married to a beautiful 18 year old who he knows will make him a cuckold. In The Miller s Tale, Nicholas tells John, There ll be a fall of rain so fierce a spate Even Noah s Flood was never half so great. (89). John believes that because Nicholas can supposedly tell if it will rain or not.
  • 7. Loisel s The Necklace It seems a desire in human nature to want more and more things for the sake of having them and for treasuring them. No matter the amount or cost some people have the tendency to obtain as much as they can get, because they can never have enough stuff. The character of Madame Mithilde Loisel from the short story, The Necklace, without a doubt has this trait. Monsieur and Madame (M. and Mme.) Loisel are a couple living in Paris. Mme. Loisel, although beautiful, is very unhappy with the life she has been given. One day, M. Loisel receives an invite to a nighttime ball, but Mme. Loisel refuses to go unless she has something marvelous to showcase herself with. Her husband manages to obtain a dress for her, and she manages to get a necklace from an old friend, Mme. Forestier. It is said that she is stunning and absolutely beautiful, but she [felt] that she had been born for all of the little necessities and luxuries for living (Maupassant, 70). The blindness of her beauty and her dreams of riches lead to the conflict within the story. When invited to attend a ball with her husband, Mme. Loisel refuses because she does not have the proper attire. Her invitation to the party reminded her of her lack of jewels and ball gems. ( The Necklace ). Her husband is unable to maintain a dress which is good enough by itself, but Mithilde argues that it has to be as perfect as it can be and it could not be completed without some sort of accessory, and that accessory will lead to her
  • 8. Leading By Examples Leading by example is no fictional idea. Vocabulary.com describes a leader as the one in charge, the person who convinces other people to follow (Leader). Examples of leadership are shown all through history, sports, and even in school districts. Famous protesters and leaders in history made a difference when they led by example, the coach of a sports team is necessary for that team s success, and groups like Student Council are all examples of leadership. There is leadership everywhere, and far off from being an idea of fiction; it is a reality. History has many great leaders that lead as an example for others. Mahatma Gandhi was maybe the greatest example of leadership in history. Gandhi was thrown off of a train due to his racial background and he felt like he had to do something about it. Gandhi decided to stand up and organized the Indian community to help him with non violent protest. He stood up for what he believed in and lead everyone who agreed with him. They teach each player all of the techniques because they are being the leaders by example. Without the coaches to lead the players, then they would not be properly trained and would not get the proper help when they do not know how to do something. Having someone to lead by example is beneficial for many things in
  • 9. I Am Sam Movie Review I am Sam I am Sam is a 2001 American drama film written and directed by Jessie Nelson, starring Sean Penn as Sam who has an intellectual disability that had sole care for his daughter Lucy Diamond played by Dakota Fanning. The two of them encounter problems with the Department of Child and Family Services as they believe the presence of Sam s intellectual disability negates his ability to parent. A lawyer Rita Harrison played by Michelle Pfeiffer plays an important role in this film as she is the only one to have belief in Sam s ability to parent. This M rated film has won awards such as the Stanley Kramer award for their ability to place an emphasis on social concerns. People with disabilities are often discriminated against the rest of society as a result of their impairments. Jessie Nelson s use of mis en scene and semiotic elements engage the members of the audience to position them to have their own perspective of Sam s situation as presented. The scene that I have chosen to analyse approaches the climax of the film where problems begin to arise between Sam and Lucy as the department of Child and Family Services believe Sam is an unfit parent. This has come to attention as Lucy is becoming smarter surpassing Sam s intellectual ability. Although Sean Penn is far from being limited in his ability to express himself, he was able to convey such a condition with precise detail used in his body expressions and dialogue in a complex manner. This would not have been

And even more specifically: How did you respond to the finale, and to what occurs both in the church and on the bus? Also, what about the infamous Mrs. Robinson (Anne Bancroft)? • 14. Inequality In Flowers Of AlgernonBy Kurt Vonnegut Aaliyah Arellano 11 16 17 Language Arts Analysis Essay Throughout history, there has been inequalities in many areas of civilizations. This can be seen in ancient times when there were kings and queens and common people and can even be seen today with rich and poor. Some groups have tried to push for equality for all, while others push against it. There is no example through history where pure equality is achieved. One example of inequality in current day, is the fact that housing costs have soared in the Denver metro area, while wages have stayed still. This has caused lower wage earners to downgrade housing or even become homeless. In ВЁFlowers of AlgernonВЁ by Daniel Keys the story talked about a guy named Charlie, who was mentally impaired, who got an operation done to make him smart. In ВЁHarrison BergeronВЁ by Kurt Vonnegutit addresses how the government felt that they were more important than everyone else. They made people with above average intelligence and beauty wear masks or headphones to impair them so that they were equal to the average people. The theme of the stories is perfect equality cannot exists because it causes depression and more inequality. In ВЁHarrison Bergeron by Kurt Vonnegut, the government tried to make above average people impaired so that everyone would be equal. The government failed because no one was really equal. The people with above average beauty were required to wear masks so that no one could really see how beautiful they were. In the text, it states, Their faces were masked, so that no one, seeing a free and graceful gesture feel like something the cat drug in . (Bergeron 2) Harrison, the main character, realized that the handicaps were not making him equal to everyone they were actually making him depressed and angry. In the text, it states, Harrison the straps of his handicaps harness like wet tissue paper, tore straps guaranteed to support five thousand pounds. (Bergeron 5) This proves my point because the government thinks that they are more important than everyone else by requiring these handicaps. We can see that a large chunk (54%) of its assets is in cash and marketable securities. From this fact we can deduce that this firm does a majority of their business with consumers and not other businesses. On the liabilities side, we can see that the company has large percentages of accounts payable and long term debt (37% and 41% respectively). The Causes And Consequences Of The First Crusades Going against modern day religious beliefs, in 1095AD the Christians went to war to claim the holy city of Jerusalem, massacring the Muslims in a bloody attempt to worship their God. Pope Urban II s speech at Clermont inspired by claims made by the Byzantium Emperor encouraged the Christians to partake in the First Crusade in an attempt to liberate Jerusalem. The religious and economic factors were the most relevant to cause this crusade, with some influence from desired political gain and little from social factors unrelated to religion. The immediate consequences were positive for the Christians and negative for the Muslims, but the First Crusade launched an ongoing conflict between the Christians and Muslims which had positive and negative consequences for both sides. There are a number of relevant modern sources which examine the causes and consequences of the First Crusade, but, while there are many medieval sources, they do not explicitly discuss the causes and consequences of the war. In order to fully comprehend the First Crusade, it is necessary to analyse the religious, economic, and political factors, as well as the short term, long term, and modern consequences. The modern book source which proves the most useful in discussing the causes and consequences of the First Crusade is Crusades: The Illustrated History, by Thomas Madden. Differing context can prove to not only impact how a character is portrayed visually, but also how society perceives them, particularly with the uncertain concept of vampires possibly still being a myth or legend within both texts. Stoker s Dracula was generally feared by his surrounding community, and believers of vampires tended to be over superstitious of the danger he may bring to people. The myth of vampires was a topic infrequently found in an average conversation, as it was dreaded that even discussion would transport cursed luck and risks. Superstition is conveyed through the scene of the innkeeper s wife delivering the ominous warning to Harker by cautioning him that All the evil things in the world will have full sway , before placing the Crucifix around his neck as a religious offering to hopefully serve the purpose of protection. This gives the effect that Dracula has a power above others, simply because they are fearful of him. Also, the way Dracula is written about expresses a sense that he may or may not intentionally give off an unwelcoming presence that tends to linger and produce a discomfort or fear among people within his surroundings, mostly in the earlier chapters of the novel. The contrast in comparison to society s perception of Drake is tremendous, as the myth or legend of vampires is far from a secret in the 21st century world of Blade

TINA is the system that has been used for the pasted 60 to 70 years, and throughout that time the way we produced are food has become both productive and efficient; but it has also become destructive and unhealthy. In A TINA based food economy, food is either mass produced through the process of industrial farming or it is imported from other countries. These lead to adverse effects on the food, the environment and the economy. This quote also tells the readers that her adulthood is rapidly approaching and she will soon leave behind what she has loved for so long and become a new woman experiencing a new adventure. Throughout the book, it is relevant that the use of foreshadowing is used. One of the many ways Santiago does this the short poems written in the beginning of each chapter, they can give a reader an idea of the what the chapters will be about and the thoughts... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Esmeralda Santiago did an outstanding job creating multiple themes that brought the book all together and gave it a deeper meaning. One theme that I felt occurred the most often throughout the book was coming of age. But it seemed to be more than that, what I discovered that one theme was the development of a young girl to a woman, and also truths being revealed about yourself and finding out who you are as a person. The author depicts this theme throughout the book my telling us readers what Esmeralda, Negi, was thinking about a certain situation and how she felt about it. The author also does a great job of incorporating this theme in the memoir by showing at the end of the book how much Negi has gone through and how she has learned and grown from the experience. The characters and settings that are in the book are used to develop the theme by creating events in the settings that the characters, Esmeralda and her family, have to assess, react, and learn and develop from what happened. This is what, to me made the book so interesting and added to depth to what the author was trying to say. The theme in the book has definitely impacted me in some way. It made me realize that there are going to be difficult times in my life, but you can conquer them with persistence and passion. Also if you are perceived as small, weak, helpless, prove everyone wrong and show them what you can do. Be the best that you can be and that is all you can do in life. By doing so I feel as long as I try my best and never let anything get me down, I can do

When the Romans arrived with their army to Carthage the Carthaginians panicked and followed any order the Romans gave in an attempt to prevent war. But the Romans wanted to push them into war. They made them hand over 200,000 sets of armor, give up their weapons, and other such commands. Even with these orders the Carthaginians still complied. Sports, Males And Masculinities By Richard Pringle Essay Reading Response Sport, Males and Masculinities by Richard Pringle Prior to the late 1980s, there has not been a great deal of research done around the between masculinity and its relationship or influence with sport, but it appears that in recent times it has been widely researched with various different theories and concepts developing from this research. The article looks to shed light on the concept of male participation in sports, particularly heavy contact sports, and its relationship or influential nature in developing a male identity or a masculinity dependant on sport. One of the key concepts detailed by Pringle (2007), is the idea of hegemonic masculinity, which was originally coined by Connell (1995). Connell suggest that the concepts of hegemony and masculinity have been intertwined, which has created a social form of a masculine ideal, developed around male dominance, power and patriarchy over groups who are deemed weaker such as women and homosexual men. Hegemonic masculinity is essentially a socially elite or desirable status, with which the performance of masculinity can be legitimately practised within society. This definition has led to a great source of division between genders, and Connell goes on to say that there is now a gender order which is essentially a form of hierarchy (in addition to sexism), brought about by his concept of hegemonic masculinity (Connell, 2002). The concept of hegemonic masculinity has, for lack of a better

When God showed himself in some strange way, it left humans with some depositum of spiritual knowledge from which all the knowledge of gods origin. If this was not a case, no human institution could legitimately claim the authority to organize religion and promulgate a normative set of propositions for the belief and forms of worship (Andino). Since no one is perfect, God has to provide some ways of showing his depositum the part of the humans to whom entrusted his revelation. This means that, God is always working during hard times and is always trying to make everything better so people can make the right choices in life. The time and place of a story plays a key role in the readers understanding of the piece. In some stories though, the setting is more important than in others. In the story, The Appropriation of Cultures, by Percival Everett the story would have a much different effect if the setting changed. In Sherman Alexie s story, What You Pawn I Will Redeem, the setting could change in multiple ways and we would still be reading a great story. (p.28) He is referring to the Confederate flag as the black power flag and Travis and Barb are shocked that he is not letting the negative connotation of the flag impact him. Later in the story Daniel is being questioned about the flag on the back of his truck by some white men, when a few young black men come to see what the problem is. Daniel tells them that, They were admiring our flag. (p.29) The element of racism and segregation is very important in the story and it wouldn t be the same had the story been in a different time period. The story wouldn t have made sense had it been before the Civil War because there would be no confederate flag to right about. Setting is crucial to a story because the details of where and when make it

  • 48. Reaction Paper On Gels 1. Introduction 1.1.Gels 1.1.1. Definition The word gel is derived from gelatin and can be traced back to the Latin gelu for frost and gelare, meaning freeze or congeal . (1) According to the U. S. Pharmacopeia (USP), gels are defined as semisolid systems consisting of either suspensions made up of small inorganic particles or large organic molecules interpenetrated by a liquid . (2) Gels are also defined as two component semi rigid systems in which the liquid continuous phase is immobilized by a cross linked three dimensional network consisting of particles or solvated macromolecules in the disperse phase. (2,3) This disperse phase can be constituted by inorganic particles or organic macromolecules, primarily polymers. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This process is referred to as swelling. This phenomenon occurs as the solvent penetrates the matrix. Gel gel interactions are replaced by gel solvent interactions. The degree of swelling depends on the number of linkages between individual molecules of gelling agent and on the strength of these linkages7, 8. B) Syneresis Many gels often contract spontaneously on standing and exude some fluid medium. This effect is known as syneresis. The degree to which syneresis occurs, increases as the concentration of gelling agent decreases. The occurrence of syneresis indicates that the original gel was thermodynamically unstable. The mechanism of contraction has been related to the relaxation of elastic stress developed during the setting of the gels. As these stresses are relieved, the interstitial space available for the solvent is reduced, forcing the liquid out. C) Ageing Colloidal systems usually exhibit slow spontaneous aggregation. This process is referred to as ageing. In gels, ageing results in gradual formation of a denser network of the gelling agent. D) Structure The rigidity of a gel arises from the presence of a network formed by the interlinking of particles of the gelling agents. The nature of the particle and the stress, straightening them out and lessening the resistance to
