Fatigue is a complex state characterized by a lack of alertness and reduced mental and physical performance, often accompanied by drowsiness. It is a subjective feeling of lack of physical and/or mental energy that interferes with usual activities. Common causes of fatigue include lack of sleep, long work hours, shift work, noise, vibration, boring work, stress, alcohol, drugs, worries, illness, and advancing age. Symptoms of fatigue involve forgetfulness, poor communication, impaired decision-making, lack of alertness, slow reaction time, withdrawn behavior, quick anger, lack of humor, lack of interest, and always feeling tired.
