Fatigue is defined as a lack of energy and motivation accompanied by symptoms like drowsiness and apathy. It can result from physical exertion, stress, boredom, or lack of sleep. Fatigue is normal in these cases. Fatigue is different from activity intolerance, which is an abnormal state of physical or mental exhaustion that prevents completing daily activities. Activity intolerance can be caused by issues like alcohol or drug use, lack of exercise, heart conditions, or other medical problems and results in chronic tiredness and other symptoms like weakness.
