Well Written Persuasive Essay
Crafting a well-written persuasive essay can be a challenging endeavor that requires a
combination of skill, knowledge, and creativity. The process demands meticulous planning,
thorough research, and a deep understanding of the chosen subject matter. One must navigate
through the complexities of formulating a compelling thesis statement, structuring coherent
arguments, and seamlessly incorporating evidence to support each claim.
The difficulty lies not only in presenting a strong case but also in anticipating and countering
opposing viewpoints. Balancing ethos, pathos, and logos to appeal to the audience's emotions,
credibility, and logic adds another layer of complexity. The art of persuasion involves selecting
the most potent language, tone, and rhetorical devices to engage the reader and evoke a desired
response.
Furthermore, maintaining a clear and cohesive flow throughout the essay is crucial for effective
communication. Achieving this balance while adhering to the conventions of grammar and style
requires a keen eye for detail and an understanding of the nuances of language.
While the task may seem daunting, the satisfaction derived from crafting a persuasive essay that
resonates with its audience is immensely rewarding. It not only hones one's writing skills but also
sharpens critical thinking abilities. The process serves as an intellectual exercise, encouraging the
exploration of diverse perspectives and the honing of analytical skills.
In conclusion, the challenge of composing a well-written persuasive essay lies in the multifaceted
nature of the task, demanding a combination of research, rhetorical skill, and a nuanced
understanding of the audience. Those seeking assistance or looking for examples to guide their

Talent
TALENT The word talent is derived from the Greek word talanton , which means
balance, sum, weight, was an unit of weight, in gold and silver, which was used as
a legal tender in the trading transactions of ancient era. The word talent used today
to denote the capacity of achievement or success and or ability in varied fields of
the arts and science. And oddly enough, the basic root of the word was originally an
ancient weight or money for the payment for goods and services in the ancient
world. So in simple words, we can say that a talent is something which is very
valuable and more then anything in the world. Everyone on the planet Earth has their
own capacity and talent. The only thing some people explores it and some not....

The Role Of The Patriots During The Revolutionary War
The role the Patriots played in the revolutionary war.
The revolutionary era refers to the uprising of the common people against authority
in the late 1700s. Great Britain ruled the American colonies for several years since
1607. The American Revolution came as a need from the American people for
independence from Great Britain. This need for independence was stirred up by the
enactment of the Stamp Act in American colonies by the British. American colonies
were congenial to liberty and independence due to religion and other factors. The
American people reacted to the stamp act with public resistance in the colonies.
Therefore, the American revolutionary war was the result of the refusal to pay taxes,
imposed on the colonists by British ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The stamp act was considered taxation without representation of the colonies in the
British Parliament. It was put down as a threat to the freedom of the American
people. People began violently rebelling against the British. These oppositions grew
and spread throughout the colonies.
The revolutionary movement divided the colonies into Patriots and Loyalists.
Loyalists were colonists loyal to the British, while the Patriots were in support of the
American Revolution. The Patriots began boycotting goods imported from Great
Britain, and substituting them with homemade goods and cheap inferior goods. The
merchants in the colonies were frustrated and could not sell their goods. Both Britain
and the merchants lost profits due to this change. The importation of British goods
was later banned in the American colonies. Merchants were being forced to sign
documents denying the importation of British goods. Merchants whom refused to
sign these documents were sent to the gallows to be tarred and feathered.
Additionally, Loyalists were coerced by the patriots into supporting the American
Revolution or they would be lynched in the gallows. Some loyalists who refused ran
away with their families to Great Britain for fear of being killed. Such actions of
people in the colonies frustrated the British and led to the Revolutionary war.
The American Revolution began in 1775 and continued until 1783. The war started in
the north. The British amounted support from Germany,
Essay On How To Choose The Right Dog Breed
Seven Easy Ways to Choose the Right Dog Breed for You
There is little profit to be made in making things more complicated for yourself.
With that in mind, we ve come up with seven easy ways to manage how to choose
the right dog breed for you.
First of all, you will want to consider the expenses of dog ownership. Whether you
are adopting or purchasing one from a store or breeder, you will not only incur
initial charges, but also health and welfare cost for the life of the newest member of
your family. Vaccines are a vital element in a dog s wellbeing and in most states
rabies shots are required. Nutrition, toys, and training will no doubt add to the cost of
pet ownership.
Second, you may want to question the purpose of owning a dog. Are you ... Show

On the other hand, small breeds like the Chihuahua are comfortable in small
apartments. Furthermore, how much space you have outside matters, too. Some
breeds, like the Greyhound or Whippet, need space to run. Small yards will not be
sufficient for these breeds. Other breeds like the Cavalier King Charles Spaniel
would be content with a small yard. Visiting a dog park may eliminate the problem,
but you would have to consider how much time it would take to go there and if your
community even has one.
Sixth, for some families, it is critical to bear in mind all allergy issues before you
make a final purchase. Asthma patients may suffer more with one breed than
another. For instance, the Siberian Husky sheds frequently while the Chinese
Crested Dog is hairless. Additionally, some breeds fur, such as the Puli and the
Poodle, are hard to maintain. Luckily, you don t necessarily have to groom your
own pet. There are a variety of businesses that cater to the individual needs of dogs.
Unfortunately, this can be quite pricy. It is also important to keep in mind, though
rare, pets can sometimes have allergies, too. You will want to consider the
adjustments you may have to make to accommodate their needs as well.
Finally, weighing the potential medical needs, issues, and life expectancy are just as
important as everything else. Pugs and Shih Tzu s tend to have difficulty breathing
and Newfoundland s are prone to hip dysplasia. Though cancer is
Applying Karl Mannheim s Sociologist Approach to the...
We can apply Karl Mannheim s sociologist approach to knowledge to the theories of
two scholars of religion, Г‰mile Durkheim and William James. The ideas expressed
by the subject are thus regarded as functions of his existence. This means that
opinion, statements, propositions, and systems of ideas are not taken at their face
value but are interpreted in the light of the life situation of the one who expresses
them (Mannheim 50). Mannheim essentially believes that the acquisition of
knowledge is based on the perspective of the observer. More obviously, their
respective views stem from their fields of expertise; Durkheim, a sociologist, supports
social constructionism as a rudimentary tool to understanding religion, while William
James... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Therefore it is not too far a leap to go from the profane and sacred spaces of
Durkheim to the respective divine being and individual that James refers to.
Although both study religion in terms of experience, Durkheim did not want to look
at the various individual s interaction with religion, but the communal aspects and
interactions as a whole that would become religion. Durkheim believes that a
community establishes a sense of stability within a power structure. A strong example
of the power structure would be the Catholic Church, which uses coercive tools like
the promise of salvation to strengthen itself. Thus Durkheim stresses the importance
of the church in the second part of his definition, [...] prohibition beliefs and practices
that unite its adherents in a single moral community called a church (Durkheim 46).
Stressing the difference of the direction of his work in comparison to James, in
Pragmatism and Sociology, Durkheim directly critiques the fact that James doesn t
acknowledge structures of power, in the form of churches or any other institution, in
his approach to religion.
Even though there is a relationship of sacred and profane between the work of the
two theorists, Durkheim s sociological approach seems to directly contrast the
individualistic perspective that James brings. In the very first pages of The
Elementary Forms of Religious Experience, Durkheim
Persuasive Essay On Pit Bulls
Because there are no witnesses how Goochland, Virginia, resident Bethany Lynn
Stephens died, her two dogs are the suspects in her death. At a news conference on
Friday, investigators disclosed that when Bethany s father searched for her in an area
she often goes, he found her two dogs guarding something.
He thought it was an animal carcass, but he found out it was his daughter s body.
Goochland County Sheriff Jim Agnew said that Bethany was apparently mauled by
her two pit bulls whose combined weight was two times that of Bethany who was
just about 100 pounds and stood at 5 foot and 1 inch.
Grisly mauling
Even if a friend of Bethany doubted the police theory, Agnew said that the dogs have
something to do with her death. It placed once more a stigma on the dog breed after
other cases involved Pit Bull attacks on people, including their owners.
Among the evidence that the investigators cited why they believe that it was the two
dogs that mauled the woman were defensive wounds on the hands and arms of 22
year old Bethany. Agnew said that it indicated she was attacked while alive. He said
she apparently fell to the ground after the attack, lost consciousness, and the Pit Bulls
mauled her to death.
Agnew pointed out that there were no strangulation marks on Bethany, but she had
puncture wounds in the skull. The evidence made the probers rule out homicide.
However, Barbara Norris, a friend of Bethany, questioned the police theory because
the victims raised the two dogs as

Science Fiction has proven to be a difficult term to define, but has become one of the

David Seed starts off with discussing voyages into space and sea journeys that can
be seen in works such as Gulliver s Travels and Ender s Game. Many people enjoy
reading novels on space travel because it s an actual glance into the future. These
stories give us the idea that there could possibly be flying cars, hologram
communication, alien interactions and of course settlement onto alien planets.
Space travel has been seen in works by H.G. Wells and the late and great Edgar Allen

creatures from different worlds visiting earth. Sightings of aliens and other
extraterrestrial beings have been reported for thousands of years, and are still

The City Of The Mercantile City
1.Within the last few centuries, cities as have evolved to take on the features that are
used today to identify the makings of what is a great city. As cities shifted from the
concept of the political city to the mercantile city and finally the industrial city,
traditional political, economic and social patterns began to take on new forms and
functions that transformed them to become the urbanized spaces they are now. Major
early cites began in the form of the political city, a place that was the functioning
center of the state or empire. Often populated by the bureaucratic ruling class, the
city was regarded as a space for elite. As the apex of the state, cities served as nexus
of trade. A crossing ground for people, goods, and ideas. As this network of
exchange transforms the common concept of the city, merchants slowly gained
status and were allowed to move in. Gradually the once exclusively aristocratic
setting evolved into what became known as the mercantile city where the market
became the core of the city. No longer primarily a place of consuming elites, but a
hub of new complexity, cities not only drew in commodities in the form of imports
but also dynamic and profound ideas and people that reshaped cities as they were
seen previously giving rise to Henri Lefebvre s notion of heterogeneity. Cities were
mirroring social and cultural diversity with material processes; a picture of
modernity as old ties were being replaced by newer ones. Thus began the
Sports, Basketball, And Football
Sports. Some love them, some hate them, but even those who hate cannot deny their
overwhelming popularity. America is home to many sports, basketball, and American
football among the most popular. Spectators filling in thousands of seats at open
stadiums, and hundreds of thousands more watching at home in front of their
television. Both basketballand footballhave distinct, fundamental differences,
however, they do not outweigh the similarities the two sports share.
A franchise without their fans is similar to a kingdom without their subjects, and
basketball and football share this common thread. Of course, without these adoring
fans to watch them, what would they be? Basketball and football are aggressive,
energetic sports and with that, aggressive and energetic fans. Fans who will paint
their faces, dye their hair and even pay thousands of dollars for ground seats or
memorabilia. These fans are very loud as well, as they cheer their teams on with
shouts of encouragement or booing the competition. Being a fan of these sports may
start as early as childhood, or since birth, and ignite a life long love for that team or
sport. Many children often find playing sports a great outlet or passion, and
basketball and football are no exceptions to this. There are youth programs for both
sports that a person can enroll their child in. As a child grows older they may be
tempted to try out for the middle school teams, and even older the high school varsity
or junior varsity

into the mind of a child, helping him understand their way of thinking. Silverstein
relays these understandings into many of his works, including this poem called
Where the Sidewalk Ends. . In the poem, the speaker depicts two specific places: the
sidewalk and the street.During the first couple of reads, the poem is quite fairytale

hyperbolic language, diction, and vivid imagery, Silverstein addresses how the

The first stanza describes the place where the sidewalk ends , using euphoric
words, such as moon bird (5) and peppermint wind (6), to evoke a dreamy, content
mood. The use of euphony assists in portraying the indulgences of childhood,
appealing to senses dulled in adulthood as humanity grows too arrogant to revel in
these simple pleasures. The second stanza is a quick transition to describing the
street . A street is a place for commute, work, and responsibility and in the poem, the
speaker uses of cacophony to connote this street as negative, dark, and dreary. With
this, one can presume that the street symbolizes the adult world. This contrasts with
the sidewalk, which is describe with a sense of serenity. The harsh, bleak words
continue on in the stanza: Past the pits where the asphalt flowers grow (9). The

danger. I was completely unaware of the consequences of my actions. As a child, I
was playful, innocent, and cheerful. Throughout my years of growing up I have
learned many lessons through life. Only a few events happened before this one that I
can remember. On my 6th birthday, life could have been lost, and from that I learned
to always be careful and that life can change in an instant. First, I woke up Saturday
afternoon. Since it was Saturday, I slept longer than usual. Today was the day
chosen to celebrate my birthday, which was actually a few days before. It was my
6th birthday party. My parents and I decided that the party would take place at our
home. We invited all our neighbors and friends. I was young, energetic, and ready
to enjoy life. Next, I got out of my Rugrats sheet covered bed. I headed down the
narrow and white hallway to the living room. I greeted my parents and had a small
breakfast. I ate scrambled eggs and toast for breakfast. After eating I asked my
parents if I could ride my bike with friends before coming back home. My parents
agreed that was ok. I went into the garage to get my blue, new, Mongoose bicycle.
My bicycle was a gift from my parents, which I received on my birthday. After
returning home from bike riding, I got an hour of rest before the party was ready to

A Brief Note On Medicare And Medicaid Services
Both Medicare and Medicaid are managed by the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid
Services (CMS), which is a division of the U.S. Department of Health and Human
Services. Medicare was created in 1965 when people of over 65 found it impossible
to get private health insurance coverage. Medicare is a Federal health insurance
program that pays for hospital and medical care for elderly and certain individual
with disabilities. The program consists of two main parts for hospital and medical
insurance (Part A and Part B), and two additional parts the provide flexibility and
prescription drugs (Part C and Part D). Medicaidis a health and medical service
program for certain individuals and families with low incomes and few resources.
Primary oversight is handle at the federal level, but each state establishes its own
standards, determines the type, amount, duration and scope of services, sets the rate
of payment for services, and administers its own Medicaid program.
Reimbursement to providers are through a fee for service model or through various
prepaid arrangements, such as a HMO plan. ACOs create incentives for health care
providers to work together to treat an individual patient across healthcare settings,
which includes doctor s offices, hospitals, and long term care facilities. There are
several factors, in my opinion, for ACOs to be successful. Buy in from all involved

The Outbreak Of E. Coli
Introduction
In the year, 2005 a major outbreak of the bacterium E. coli perished in the South
Wales and more than 157 people were affected by this bacterium, which mainly
included the children. The reason found out behind this incident was connected with
a meat supplier who used to serve the local schools and old age homes. A five year
old child lost his life during the course of this outbreak. Therefore, this paper is
written with the aim of exploring the outbreak of E. coli in South Wales, to witness
the actual reasons of the diseases, the difficulties that arise during the course of the
event and to give a look on the things that this incident has taught us.
E. coli
E. coli or Escherichia coli are a kind of bacteria that affects the intestinal or the

likely to last about a week. The common symptoms of these diseases are that the
patient will have diarrhea with blood (Clermont, Bonacorsi and Bingen 2000).
However, the serve cases of this disease may lead to kidney problems, which can
lead to death especially when the patient is a child or an elderly person. That is, it
can act severely in those patients who have does not have a strong immune system.
Some types of E. coli are normally found in the intestines of people and animals

Aquaintance Rape Essay

There are many types of rape. A very important type of rape is acquaintance rape.

acquaintance rape: beginning, early, relational, rape within sexually active couples

The first type of acquaintance rape is the beginning date rape. This form of rape

not. RSAC with battery is mare prevalent in married couples, but it is still possible
in unmarried couples. Many states only recognize rape as a crime if the woman is
not married to her attacker. This is a very scary statement. The fact is that abuse in
married couples is usually more violent. Because of laws not including married
women in rape situations, men do not have to worry about being charged with
something that is obviously a crime. RSAC without battery is usually in nonmarried
couples. There is still a possibility of ending the relationship quickly, which usually
keeps the man from committing the extra physical abuse.
What is the solution to how do we prevent rape from happening? I believe the best
solution is education. Women need to become more aware of surroundings and
situations that lead to date rape. Because of the low report rate, many women think
that the problem is minimal
When Men Last Longer In Bed Research Paper
One of the biggest problems that men mention when talking about their sexual
health is wishing that there was a way to last longer in bed. The good news it that
there are many ways to increase sexual stamina and improve your love making
techniques. Use these easy ways to last longer in bed and have a more satisfying
experience for both you and your partner.
One of the easiest and most natural ways to increase your time is to change
positions. Let the woman ease on top of you and stay on top. This can also be
achieved by literally sitting inside each other. This is when the man crosses his legs
and the woman does too, but she is on the top.
This gives her more control over the tempo and improves both her experience and
yours as well. Many couples swear by this technique and it can help guys last much

During intercourse, withdraw the penis and then re enter in the missionary position.
This is a great tip to use when you re tired of the woman always being on top and
you want to try something different.
This method is also great for couples that like to experiment since they can easily
add their own acrobatic moves like lifting the legs or even the entire body. By
withdrawing during intercourse, this will slow a man s body and responses down,
giving him better technique.
The squeeze technique is a great natural method that makes sex more satisfying and
last longer for both partners. After engaging in foreplay, guys will often feel the need
to release immediately. Once this urge happens, the woman squeezes the end of the
penis until the urge goes away.
After releasing, wait a few seconds and then continue. Using this method a few
times during foreplay can make intercourse longer and more satisfying. This may
take some time to perfect for both partners so don t give up if it doesn t seem to be
effective the first time
History of Mayan Culture
History of Mayan Culture The mysterious culture of ancient Maya once covered a
vast geographic area in Central and South America. Their civilization extended to
parts of what are now Mexico, Honduras, and El Salvador, and most of Guatemala
and Belize. The Mayans first settled in 1500BC. The Mayans environment consisted
of tropical rainforests, which was also one of their main sources of resources, they
turned the jungles into great cities. The rainforest would provide them with food,
clothing, weapons, tools, and many more useful items. It rained almost everyday, but
the temperature was not cold at least in the daytime. The environment played a major
role in what the Mayans culture became, they needed rain and heat to survive both the

Each large city had one supreme chief who ruled for life, upon his death a son or
brother took over. In some cases wife took over. If no family successor was
available a new ruler was selected from the upper class. Crime was also an issue
for the Mayans. Criminals were punished in different ways according to what they
had done. A thief would become the servant of his victim. Murderers were put to
death, sometimes as part of ritual sacrifices. For minor crimes, hair was cut as a
sign of disrespect. There were also class separations like the ruling class and the
common people. Warriors were a separate class themselves too. In battle the
Mayans fought with wooden clubs, flint knives, spears, and slingshots. Weapons
and tools were made from bone, parts of animals, soil, stone, metal/copper, and
wood. RELIGION The Mayans were very religious people; their religion regulated
almost everything in their life. Priests were the most important people in the tribes.
The Mayans believed their gods had destroyed and recreated their earth several
times that is why they always tried to please their gods with sacrifices. Each God
represented something for them. Their Supreme Being and creator of the universe
was called Hunan Ku . The next important gods were the sun and moon gods. Kinich

Reaction Paper On Smoking In Movies
Slide 1: Introduction
Slide 2: Rachel
According to the surgeon general, young people who see smoking portrayed in
movies are 2 3 times more likely to start smoking themselves. One of the goals of
the Healthy People 2020 program is to reduce onscreen smoking in movies and TV
shows, especially in youth rated material, which is rated as G, PG, and PG 13. From
2005 to 2010, there was a steady decrease in the number of onscreen smoking
incidents in these films, but this decline stopped after 2010. If the decline had
continued, all youth rated films would have contained no smoking incidents by 2015.
That would have meant a huge reduction in teen smoking.
Slide 3: Rachel
As we can see from this graph, PG 13 movies from 2010 2016 showed no net
decrease in smoking incidents. G/PG rated movies had an 87% decrease in smoking
incidents, while they increased in PG 13 movies by 43%.
Slide 4: Rachel
So how can we make some progress on this issue?
The 6 major motion picture companies already have policies in place to limit the
number of smoking incidents in youth rated movies. However, we saw in the graph
that these policies are not helping with PG 13 movies. Stricter guidelines should be
followed.
Another solution is to give any movie with a smoking depiction an R rating.
Exceptions would be historical depictions or if the film showed smoking in a
negative light. A study on films from 1998 2003 indicated that this R rating could
decrease teen smoking by 18%.

Bill Naughton s Play Spring and Port Wine
How does the playwright, Bill Naughton, prepare the audience for the first
appearance for Rafe on the stage? What are the audience expected to think about
him? 07817966841 224 1970
In this coursework I will be focusing on a play called Spring and
Port Wine . It was first performed in 1965 and is set about forty years ago. I am
going to comment on how social and historical things have changed since then and
how we as an audience are expected to think of the character called Rafe before his
first entry in the play.
At the start of the play in the stage directions we get a lot of information about what
Rafe is like. We find out that he looks after his family by giving them a... Show more

Rafe likes everything to be faultless. We are also shown that the family is to some
extent frightened of Rafe when Florence says God help you if he ever finds out , and
I wouldn t want to tell a barefaced lie to Rafe . This shows they are afraid of how
Rafe might react if he finds out they have changed some figures in the
housekeeping. As the play goes on we discover that Rafe is fussy about keeping the
house clean when Daisy says Rafe always likes to come home to everything spick
and span of a Friday . This tells us that he expects the house to be spotless before he
comes back home from work. We also learn that Rafe likes routine as Daisy says Rafe
s got this obsession about keeping accounts straight , and Rafe always liked fish on
Friday . All this shows that Rafe is scrupulous about the house and money. Betsy
Jane, a slovenly nosey neighbour is a useful character of telling us what the
neighbours think of Rafe. We see that she is in total contrast with the Crompton
family because Rafe and his family are very cautious about money but Betsy Jane is
careless with money.
Betsy Jane does not think very highly of Rafe, she thinks that he has no right to get
in the way of how Daisy controls the housekeeping money. We notice this when she

Intellectual Property Concepts: Patents, Trade Mark, Trade Secret and Copyright
The modern economy is principally technology driven. Technology products are
normally creations of the mind. They entail unique techniques, products, or brands. In
order to protect their own investment, entrepreneurs need to safeguard these creations
because they are intellectual property. Intellectual property is the mind s product, but
can be manifested physically. Therefore, its concept behind it can be copied or
transferred. These concepts need to be protected by law. There are four major kinds
of intellectually property, all which have some legal protection. These include patents,

They also indicate sponsorship and authorization. They also differentiate a company s
products from those of competitors. Trademarks also show value and image as an
effort to create a notion of quality or uniqueness in the mind of the customer.
Trademark infringement takes place when there is chance of confusion between two
products or services offered by different companies (Knudson, 2006). Trademarks are
usually a crucial element of company s marketing strategy and therefore need to be
selected carefully and safeguarded consistently against all possible violators.
Copyrights are used in protection of artistic works like books, plays, films, music,
paintings, or computer software. Copyright infringement entails use of such works
either in part of whole without prior permission of their owners, or without
acknowledging the source (Knudson, 2006). Trade secret refers to any intellectual
property that grants its holder a competitive edge over the competitors. It includes any
information which may in from of a formula, pattern, compilation, program,
technique, process that derives sovereign economic value from not being known.
Unlike patents which protect the original inventor regardless of the source of
subsequent inventions, trade secrets are not safeguarded (Knudson, 2006). Further, a
person can dismantle a product in order to uncover a trade secret without
infringement through a process known as reverse engineering. However,

A Pellet Stove Is An Efficient And Convenient Way To Add Heat To Your Home
If you re looking for a way to heat a small home or add supplemental heat to a larger
home, then a pellet stove might be the answer. These are more convenient to operate
and more energy efficient than a wood stove, and they can provide warmth more
readily due to an internal fan. Here s some information about getting and using a
pellet stove in your home.
Why A Pellet Stove Is A Good Choice
A pellet stove is more like a small furnace than a fireplace or wood stove. In addition
to having a burn pot, pellet stoves have a thermostat for controlling temperature and
fans for circulating and distributing heat. The pellets are made of compressed wood,
sawdust, or other biofuel. You load them into a hopper and they are slowly added to
the burn pot over the next several hours so you don t ... Show more content on

The efficiency of the stove depends on where you put it and the layout of your house.
Also, you have to consider that the stove should be away from children and
furnishings.
In addition, the stove needs to be set up next to an electrical outlet since the stove
needs power for the circuit board and fans. One solution is to get a pellet stove
insert for an existing fireplace. If you want a free standing pellet stove, then you ll
need to choose a place where you can vent it to the outside.
How To Use A Pellet Stove
To use a pellet stove, you load the pellets into the hopper and then turn the stove on if
it has an automatic ignition. If you buy a stove with manual ignition, you ll have to
get the fire started with a gel or liquid starter that is recommended by the
manufacturer. Once the fire starts, you regulate the temperature with the thermostat,
and shutting off the stove is as easy as turning it

I honest believe this is the only remedy for providing up to date technology, the
company has to make it a priority to provide the same technology to the global
environment. The customs can be corrected by provided a print out of what is
allowed and what is not allowed to be brought into or out of a country a passenger
is traveling through. The information is available online but some older passengers
aren t as savvy with technology so they may not receive the same information. With
this tactic there is not any excuse for not knowing what is expected when going
through customs. The strategies I stated above will be successful, only if they are
applied. Without application the strategy will be a failure. Within the domestic
environment the security system can be significantly improved and decrease the
risk for terrorist attacks greatly. This technology needs to be protected by requiring
a security clearance for all employees who work for the company. This way you have
a thorough back ground check on everyone who works for US Airways Group and the
risk for inside information getting out to enemies of the United States is low. Within
the global environment technology needs to be advanced. The company can protect
this technology by only providing the technology to its global counterparts and not the
China s Political Influence On Foreign Policy
China s Indo Pacific neighbors, notably Japan, Vietnam, Philippines, Indonesia, India
and Australia, seem nervous about China s rapidly rising military threat strength and
aggressive stance in foreign policy. Is China perceived as a military threat by these
states? What measures have these states taken or are contemplating to deal with the
Chinese threat?
China s military rising has led to China s power in the East Asia region and concerns
about China s power in the Indo Pacific region. Many scholars believe that when a
state becomes powerful, it will defiantly seek greater regional political influence and
consequently worldwide political influence. This influence will result in the change
of the power structure in the region and eventually lead to a long term security
danger. According to the power structure scholars, the history of international
relations supports this argument. In the period between two World Wars, Germany
became a powerful state and turned out to be the threat to the security of the West
Atlantic region and finally caused the World War II. In addition, before the World
War II Japan was a rising power and caused the Pacific war in the 1930s and 1940s
(Jiangye2002,57). However, opponents claim that China as a rising power has not
followed the examples of Germany and Japan because the international system has
been changed. Opponents also believe that in the traditional international system the
national interests of a rising power were to conflict and

Mussolini consolidation of fascist power in Italy in the years 1922 1929 could have

Like many political transitions, it was an untidy and complicated process. Although

Literacy Pedagogy Essay
Effective teaching of literacy is developed through a deep understanding of the ways
in which children learn, informing educators on the most beneficial pedagogical
methods to utilise (Tompkins et al, 2012). Literacy pedagogy within the Australian
context has changed drastically over time and has resulted in a myriad of pedagogical
choices that influence contemporary literacyeducation(Kalantzis Cope, 2012). By
critically analysing the changing approaches to literacy teaching within the Australian
educational context, the four major literacy pedagogies: didactic, authentic,
functional and critical can be explored linearly to highlight the theories behind each
approach, their positive and negative attributes and how subsequent approaches have
been integrated to result in a balanced approach to literacy education.
Didactic pedagogy dates to the 1500 s and was the founding approach to literacy
pedagogy when mass, compulsory, institutionalised education was first introduced in
the 19th century (Kalantzis Cope, 2012). Didactic literacy education primarily
involves lecturing and is essentially teacher centered (Banning, 2005). Didactic
pedagogy is defined by the teacher controlling what is to be taught and how this
information is to be delivered (Banning, 2005). The students role is to memorise and
reproduce this content (Kalantzis Cope, 2012a). The approach also concerns
comprehension of the meaning of written texts to be interpreted as intended by the
author (Kalantzis

Is there something that will offend another from a decidedly different culture?
The way people communicate varies considerably between, and within, cultures and
different norms regarding the appropriate level of assertiveness in communicating
can add to cultural misunderstandings.
One aspect of communication style is language usage, across cultures, some phrases
and words are used in different ways. Additionally, body language or nonverbal
communication is an essential part of how people communicate, and there are
differences from culture to culture. Hand and arm gestures, touch, and eye contact or
lack thereof, are a few of the aspects of nonverbal communication.
Another aspect of communication style is the amount of importance given to non
verbal communication. Non verbal communication includes facial expressions and
gestures, personal distance, and sense of time. It is no surprise that people have
difficulties understanding and communicating with one another due to different
cultural customs and experiences, and these differences cause miscommunication.
Communication is a complex system of comprehensive interaction where meaning is
created and reflected in human interaction. Culture affects both the content and style
of communication so that the cultural differences will cause misinterpretation by
what is said, and that which is left unsaid. To help avoid misunderstanding and
conflict
Counterculture In The 1960s
1967 was a year focused around counterculture as a revolutionary new movement
captured the nation s attention. This phenomenon, whose members were called
hippies, originated with America s youth, though it quickly spread to other nations.
Hippies advocated personal freedom and expression and hoped to create a society
full of peace, harmony, and love. As hippies challenged traditional societal values
in an attempt to find inner peace, many members began to experiment with a
variety of mediums, including illegal drugs, such a marijuana and LSD; bold
fashion, such as tie dyed shirts, long hair, and love beads; and sexual freedom.

The year began with a bad start when Vietcong soldiers attacked several South
Vietnam cities in a month long invasion called the Tet Offensive. Though, from a
military standpoint, American forces had won the battle, it further crushed the moral
of Americans, who had repeatedly been told that the Vietcong were close to defeat.
However, this surprise attack proved that the Vietcong were still strong and that the
government had been deceiving the public. This incident changed the opinions of
millions of Americans and support for the Vietnam War was at an all time low.
However, events occurring overseas was the not the only source of darkness during
this explosive year. America also suffered from the assassination of two prominent
public figures during 1968; Robert Kennedy and Martin Luther King Jr. The
assassination of Robert Kennedy, who was the brother of JFK and running for
president, shook the nation and weakened the Democratic Party. However, it was the
assassination of Martin Luther King Jr. that truly threw the nation into chaos. After
he was killed, riots broke out across the country as his followers burned buildings and
destroyed property. The 1968 presidential election brought further protests as
thousands of anti war protesters, frustrated with the government s policies in

Carl Sandburg And The American Dream
The American Dream is a well known concept and idea that many immigrants and
Americans strived for in order to become successful. Unlike most countries where
rising from rags to riches was highly uncommon and a hopeless dream, America
was a place for people to work hard and achieve their dreams. Carl Sandburg was a
very influential poet who came from very humble beginnings under immigrant
parents who had moved to America. He believed in an ordered society where people
could strive and accomplish what they chose without being influenced by the
majority of the country. To achieve the American Dream, Sandburg had to travel
across the States, overcome challenging experiences, such as searching for
newspapers to work for, keeping a job, and dealing with the death of his daughter
Madeline. His AmericanDreamof becoming a successful poet, journalist, and goal of
leaving a lasting legacy only became reality after many years of hard work and
perseverance.
To begin, there are not many people who can say that their childhood started with
joining the army, later living on the streets, and working a variety of jobs. Due to
these circumstances, Sandburg had many goals and even more ideals he wished
to share to the world. As a youth, he lived a difficult life, as he quit school in 8th
grade and was always busy working to help his family by delivering milk, collecting
ice, laying bricks, and more, before becoming a hobo in 1897 (Barr 1). Sandburg
struggled to make money and had to work

The Effects Of Groundwater Pollution On The World
Groundwater pollution is a prominent problem in most areas of the world. High
nitrate concentrations have been identified as one of the main culprits of
groundwater pollution. Agriculture is a primary anthropogenic source involved in
the spreading and distribution of nitrates in rural areas. China is considered one of
the largest in terms of agricultural production. As the population of China increased
over time, the recycling of plant nutrients could no longer renew the loss of nutrients
from harvesting. The famine between 1960 and 1970 caused radical changes when
it came to policies about population control and large efforts were made to increase
agricultural yields. This was encouraged by increasing the application rate of
chemical fertilizers, especially ones that were nitrogen based (Emteryd, Lu and
Nykyist, 1998). However, higher irrigationand nitrogen fertilizerinputs results in
decreased water and nitrogen use efficiency (Hu, Li, and Chen, 2010). Currently
China is the leading producer of rice, wheat onion cabbage and the second largest
producer of corn (See Appendix). Presently the average annual nitrogen fertilizer
application is 200 kg N/ha in China (Zhang, Xu, XIaomin, Dong and Ballantine,
2013). As a result of this, China unsurprisingly suffers from large amounts of nitrate
pollution in its groundwater, especially in northern China. The main focus of this
paper will therefore be on the North China Plain and the provinces surrounding the
Yangtze River as

shot to make sure he was ok. The shot said that he was ok. Later on Craig assumed
that they were all ok at the zoo.
After a few weeks, Craig noticed BoBo started to smell a lot more and was
sleeping a lot more. Craig took some of BoBo s blood and found he had
bananatitous. Which is a disease eats too much food. BoBo, you have bananatitous.

special vet area in the zoo, because Bananatitous was contagious. The symptoms of
bananatitous were, sleeping a lot, odor, and not eating enough.
BoBo had passed it onto a bird in the vet area before the bird went back to his cage.
In one of the shows the zoo has, the bird lands on someone s shoulder in the

History
History of Baseball The start of the game of baseball is unknown, but some people
believe they know when it started. The game of baseball believes to start in
England. The start of baseball was around 1760, the game was called Rounder.
Rounder had the same rules as baseball today, but it had its difference. The biggest
difference was that a fielder had to throw the ball at the runner to get them out.
The game changed in 1845. A group of people got together to talk about the game.
They wanted to make the game safer. They changed the rules of the fielder. He
would not throw at the baserunner anymore; they must tag the baserunner with the
ball. The equipment changed as well when they made the rule change. They
started to use a harder ball. The game of baseball became an organized sport in
1840 and 1850. Baseball is becoming more popular in America. For example, by
1860 the sport took the crown of America favorite sport over England cricket.
Baseball han t always been an economic powerhouse. By the 1869, the first
professional baseball team was created. The Cincinnati Red Stocking were the first
all professional team. Before the Red Stocking, the game of baseball was an amateur
sport. Players was still being paid under the table even though the game was an
amateur sport. Players started to leave their ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

It also helps people to forget about politics for a while. For example, the game

other teams saying that they would not sign people off other teams during the
season. This also got pushed to the off season. The reason they did this was to stop

Proccupations Of Pharmacy Vs Pharmacy
The ability to take a health occupation class has been spread down to the high school
level for those who have the need and want to help others in a health department.
Classes have been provided for students to decide which part of the health best fits
them. There is a wide range of different occupations within the health department to
choose from. These range from helping with infants, surgeon, being a family doctor,
to becoming a pharmacist. Two of those occupations which are commonly looked into
are pharmacyand nursing, such as a nurse practitioners. Healthcare has had a major
involvement in the world, it is a need and a demand today. Pharmacy and nursing
have played a major role in the health department, they are both a well paying job
and have exceptional features, the schooling is about the same, and the job
opportunities are increasing. As some of the higher paying jobs in the health
department, pharmacist falls on an average of $121, 500 and nurse practitioners
fall on about an average of $97,990 per year. Depending on which facility the job is
obtained and in which state, the salary will change (Learn How to Become). Before
choosing a health career based off of the salary, the key features of the occupation
will help decide which choice is better for certain people. A nurse practitioner is an
advance practice registered nurse who has ancillary responsibilities for administering

The True Tragic Hero of Creon in Sophocles Antigone
There has always been a great debate over who is the true tragic hero in Sophocles
Antigone. Many scholars would stake claim to Antigone possessing all the necessary
characteristics of a true tragic hero, but many others would argue that Creon holds
many qualities as well. It is hard to discount Antigone as a tragic hero, because in
fact, the play bears her name, but from careful reading, Creon meets Aristotle s
criteria exactly and fits perfectly into the role. In order to determine whether or not
Creon is the true tragic hero, one must answer the question: What is a Tragic Hero?
In Aristotle s Poetics, he discusses the basic criteria regarding a tragic hero. Aristotle

Creon said, ?...And whoever places a friend above the good of his own county, he
is nothing: I have no use for him.? (203 205). Again, his high standards and honor
for his country are shown in great detail: ?I could never stand by silent, watching
destruction march against our city, putting safety to rout? (207 208). Creon shows
a high sense of morality when he properly buried Eteocles, and then is showing his
noble character by not burying Polyneices, who attacked Creon?s country; again
his value of his country is shown. Creon is a good ruler because he like any king
would punish evil and reward good. Creon is seen by the chorus to have
?goodness? and leadership. (Lines 691). The chorus praises Creon for his loyalty
to the country after the great war, they look forward to his kingly rule and nobility
in the future by saying, ?. . . Creon, the new man for the great new day?(Lines 173).
Love of his country and his punishment of Polyneices show this great nobility and
loyalty talked about by the chorus. Clearly Creon qualifies under the first criterion of
being a tragic hero.
The second criterion for being a tragic hero is that one is neither purely evil nor
pre eminently great. Although Creon possesses many good kingly qualities, as far
a honor and nobility, his imperfection lies in his excessive pride and hubris, as well
as his self indulgence as King of Thebes. Creon shows his power and pride

facts of the case and will identify the legal issues as they arise within the case.
1.2 Facts of the Case
The plaintiff in this case was a then 19 year old employee working as a barman in a
pub, in a residential area one mile outside a rural town. The plaintiff had been
working in the bar for four months at the time. A colleague of the plaintiff, Yvonne

took a shotgun to the plaintiff s neck. The plaintiff was pushed backwards and
warned not to do anything stupid. Two other men forced their way into the pub
behind the man who was dressed as a member of the GardaГ. The man demanded to
know where the safe was within the premises and the plaintiff told him. The
plaintiff and his two colleagues were forced to lie on the floor and had their hands
tied behind their backs using plastic ties. The raiders locked the employees into a
small store room and proceeded with the robbery. Eventually the employees broke
free of their restraints and out of the room they were being held in. The plaintiff
pressed the panic button located on the premises and phoned the GardaГ.

songs. Each in their own way, all of these songs are about pain and sadness caused
by break ups. Some of these songs are meant to cause an already sad person to cope
with their sadness by pushing them farther into The Abyss . A few are meant to touch
on the happier memories of the relationship giving someone hope that they will love

cope with a person s sadness that results from a break up. Paris by the Chainsmokers
is a song that reflects on the happy side of a relationship that is rarely seen in break
ups. The song is essentially the writer remembering a relationship with fondness. It
tells the tale of two young lovers on their own and in love who eventually break
apart. It also touches on happy memories like the lyrics We were staying in paris,/ to
get away from your parents (Chainsmokers, 1 2). By highlighting the highs instead of
lows, it shows the listener that they should not be sad about their loss but happy that
they ever got to experience the joy and happiness that most relationships provide.
Almost no relationships end with happiness but this song shows that it is possible to
think happily of a relationship that has ended. This song also uses higher pitched,

Ancient Carthage Vs. Rome
CГЎrthage vs. Rome
Introduction
This paper compares the rise and influence of CarthagГnian to Roman power in the
MediterrГЎnean region between the ninth and second BCE centuries, and identifies
some of the reasons that led to Rome becoming the dominating force over
CГЎrthage. I would argue that while Rome was ultimately the greater military power,
CГЎrthage from a geopolitical and commercial viewpoint was equally, if not more
successful than Rome in the same period of time leading up to the start of the first
Punic war (264 BCE).
Origins
The cities of CГЎrthage and Rome were founded within one hundred years of each
other. Jona Lendering suggests that carbon dating conducted in the 1990s, traces the
founding of CГЎrthage to the last quarter of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

Rome
Rome on the other hand, was founded by farmers seeking a nearby defensive hilltop
(Morey, 1901), which suggests that the city s expertise was initially limited to
agricultural and military skills. It is the different intention behind the founding of
each city, which I feel is significant. CГЎrthage was established far away for
commercial gain, an offensive endeavor. Rome was established for defensive
positioning against neighboring enemies, and perhaps as a stronghold for future
offensive activities (i.e., the building the Roman Empire).
Road to Conflict
While CГЎrthage was annexing Northern Africa and Southern Spain (giving them
control of the Straights of Gibraltar and access to the Atlantic Ocean), and the
nearby islands of Sicily, Corsica and Sardinia, Rome seems to have been preoccupied
with fighting closer to home, the Gauls to the north, the Latinums to the south, and
the Samnites and the Greeks. Much of Rome s rise to military power appears to be
limited to land army fighting, as they cleaned up their own preverbal backyard.
Meanwhile, the CarthagГnians were plying the Atlantic Ocean and trading with
England for tin (Gascoigne, n.d.).
The map below shows CГЎrthage s possessions prior to the first Punic war (264
BCE). CГЎrthage controlled North Africa s coastal areas closest to Rome,
controlled access to the Atlantic Ocean, as well as most of SГcily and

Conflict In Freaks And Geeks
Freaks and Geeks is a show about the conflict s and pressure s of growing up. In
this series the teens face a number of conflicts such as trying to fit in, parental
control, and peer pressure. Lots of teenagers including myself have faced some of
these problems. Everyone deals with some kind of conflict while growing up it
just depends on how you decide to deal with it and make the best of it. This allows
me to tell you how I and other teens have faced and dealt with some of the same
problems that is shown on Freaks and Geeks.
The first conflict that they were faced with in Freaks and Geeks was trying to fit
in. I use to try to do things like a certain group of people such as wear the same
clothes or shoes to try to fit in. In the show, Lindsay tried to fit in by riding around
with the Freaks on Halloween destroying people s Halloween decorations and
hitting mailboxes with a baseball bat to get them to like her instead of passing out
candy with her mom. During your teenage years a lot of people are trying to find out

make you perfect like Lindsay s parents did or they may be just trying to protect
you and make you a better person. In Freaks and Geeks we see many cases where
they don t agree with their parents because they feel like they are trying to control
them too much. Nick s dad was going to make him go to the military if he could
not make it as a drummer but Nick didn t feel like he belonged in the military and is

Socrates Ideal Lifestyle In The Republic
Socrates s Argument forJustice as the Ideal Lifestyle in The Republic The theory of
true justice is discussed multiple times throughout The Republic. From the very
beginning of his discussion Socrates refutes every definition of justice proposed by
both his friends and enemies, finding problems in every argument. Though initially
he does not put forward any definition himself, Socrates still proves that he has a
much deeper understanding of true justice. Socrates is intent on not only determining
the definition of justice but also proving that living justly will bring one the most
happiness in life. Through his invalidation of the supposed happiness of an unjust
life, Socrates proves that it is truly in our best interest to be just.... Show more content

In order to establish the case for injustice, Socrates s close friend, Glaucon, steps in
to argue for the side of injustice. He argues that people are only just for the benefits
of justice, not only because they believe living justly is the right thing to do.
Glaucon explains, The best is to do injustice without paying the penalty... Suppose
we grant to the just and the unjust person the freedom to do whatever they like...
we will catch the just person redhanded, traveling the same road as the unjust one,
(Book 2, page 38, line 349c) Glaucon argues that when given the opportunity, even
the most just man will fall to the temptation of the rewards of injustice. This leads
him to explain the legend of the ring of Gyges. The ring of Gyges contained
magical properties that would render the wearer invisible. In the legend the man
who finds the ring, recognizing that there would be no repercussions for his
actions, immediately falls into an unjust life. He breaks into the castle, seduces the
Queen, and kills the King, taking over the land and power the king once possessed.
Glaucon argues that even the most just man would use this ring to satisfy his
appetites for material things and power. In response to this reasoning, Socrates
makes a strong argument in favor of justice that help to prove, without a doubt, that
behaving justly is in our best interest. Socrates first describes a tyrant, the epitome
of an unjust man. The tyrant is controlled by his appetites for wealth and material
things. When he eventually spends the last of his money on material things he
borrows money from others, and later turns to crime in order to fulfill his
increasing desires. Socrates asks, Mustn t his soul be full of slavery and illiberality,
with those same parts of it enslaved, while a small part, the most wicket and most
insane, is master? (Book 9,
Why Is Ma Rainey Important
Gertrude Ma Rainey is a pivotal figure in the history of American music. She was the
first person to ever perform blues and the first internationally known African
American female blues singer. Her music acted as inspiration for many distinguished
figures during the Harlem Renaissance, and continues to influence contemporary
music and art.
A single source of blues music cannot be traced, but Ma Rainey is rightfully credited
with introducing it to the world. Hence the reason she was dubbed as The Mother
of the Blues . During an interview in the 1930s, Ma told musicologist John Work,
that she heard what would be called blues, for the first time around 1902. She was
in a small town in Missouri working a show at the time, and one morning a local
girl came into the tent singing about a man whom had left her. This new style of
soulful music drew in Ma Rainey so much she later had the girl teach her the song.
Rainey performed the song as an encore in a show soon after, earning a special place
in the show, and marking the start of her career (Jas Obrecht Archive).
Gertrude Pridgett was born in 1986 to tent performers Thomas Pridgett Sr. and Ella
Allen Pridgett. Both were said to had traveled around the south performing minstrel
shows, which was the most popular form of live comedy entertainment from 1840 to
the early nineteenth century (Biography.com). Because of her parents involvement,
Gertrude had always been surrounded by show business and always had a love for

Medieval Chroniclers And Disease
Given the material presented above, it is hardly surprising that German expeditions
into Italy frequently suffered from heavy disease mortality. But how can we be
certain that any given disease outbreak is malaria, as opposed to typhoid, typhus,
bubonic plague, or some other disease associated with marching armies? In general,
the medieval chroniclers were not very helpful in distinguishing between various
infections, and this reflects the prevailing mindset to disease at the time. Rather than
regarding diseases as discrete entities caused by specific pathogens, pre modern
writers generally believed that disease was caused by environmental factors,
especially swamp miasmas or urban filth. What is more, diseases were understood as
existing along

Joan Of Arc As A Leader Of Women
Leader of Men
The Renaissance Era brought about the desire for expansion, in terms of both
territory and ideals. Joan of Arc was a strong woman who stepped up and was able
to restore the morale of France during this era, after the French throne was taken
over by the English. She dressed as a man and took on roles that were dominantly
held by men. Even when she knew she would be punished by death for her
behaviors she refused to change her ways. Joan of Arc was unlike any other women
of the time and refused to be oppressed. Joan of Arc was born on January 6, 1412 in
Lorraine to French peasants. As a young girl Joan of Arc was often found doing
housework or tending to her father s flock. She was a very kind hearted girl and
would often put those in need before herself. Those who knew her described her as
a devout Christian. A man once said I have heard it said by Messire Guillaume
Front, formerly the parish priest, that Joan was a good Catholic, that he had never
met a better and had non better in his parish (Pernoud 18). This faithfulness to the
church leads to Joan of Arc announcing her call from God that Charles VII is the
rightful heir to the french throne. France was in need of morale boost and Joan of
Arc gave them that. France would be under the control of Henry V when Charles
VII died, therefore disinheriting Charles VI s son, Charles VII. When Henry V
takes over the throne and dies soon after, he leaves a son who is never recognized as

Hadoop Distributed File System Analysis
HADOOP DISTRIBUTED FILE SYSTEM
Abstract Hadoop Distributed File System, a Java based file system provides
reliable and scalable storage for data. It is the key component to understand how a
Hadoop cluster can be scaled over hundreds or thousands of nodes. The large
amounts of data in Hadoop cluster is broken down to smaller blocks and distributed
across small inexpensive servers using HDFS. Now, MapReduce functions are
executed on these smaller blocks of data thus providing the scalability needed for
big data processing. In this paper I will discuss in detail on Hadoop, the architecture
of HDFS, how it functions and the advantages.
I.INTRODUCTION
Over the years it has become very essential to process large amounts of data with
high precision and speed. This large amounts of data that can no more be
processed using the Traditional Systems is called Big Data. Hadoop, a Linux
based tools framework addresses three main problems faced when processing Big
Data which the Traditional Systems cannot. The first problem is the speed of the
data flow, the second is the size of the data and the last one is the format of data.
Hadoop divides the data and computation into smaller pieces, sends it to different
computers, then gathers the results to combine them and sends it to the application.
This is done using Map Reduce and HDFS i.e., Hadoop Distributed File System. The
data node and the name node part of the architecture fall under HDFS.

Preserving And Developing A National Identity
Preserving and developing a national identity in China has been and continues to be
an ongoing commitment, most notably since the seventeenth century. A nation is an
imagined community consisting of a so called myth of common descent, where those
who contribute to society share a common experience. The concept of a national
identity is crucial in understanding the history of Chinaas it developed into a nation.
Factors that have been established to define identity can consist of the following: the
relation one has to a specific territory; the government system; religions; ideologies
and beliefs; and importantly, in China, the relationship between government and class
social structures. Moreover, the notion of ethnic identity surfaces... Show more

With the conquest of the Manchus over the Ming Empire during the transition from
the Ming Dynasty to the Qing Dynasty, the loss of ones native identity was on the
line. The preservation of national identity was critical for both the Han and the
Manchus. Manchus feared in losing their national identity in which they ensured to
preserve their shamanism: the notion of having a spiritual death and rebirth, thus
going into a supernatural world where they could then influence events (Schoppa,
36). With the Manchus fighting for the recognition and preservation of their national
identity, they would perform their shamanic rituals in the city, such as in the
Forbidden City, along with enforcing tactics that would prevent the Manchus and the
Chinese mainlanders to associate with one another closely. However, at a point, as
Schoppa elaborated, the Manchus conformed and [bought themselves] into Chinese
culture (Schoppa, 26). By doing so, the political and social contributers of the empire
felt as if their identity was on the line.
Moreover, during the reign of the Qian long Emperor, when China peaked with its
wealth and power, when it was in its prime of commercialization and urbanization,
was when it led to more social development, and an increase in population. This
urbanization and social development due to increasing population was a large
contributor to the dissolving national identity of China (Schoppa, 35). During this
period, in the
The Importance Of Online Communication
In the past decade technological improvements have progressed and expanded
throughout our world. Such advancements have led to the creation of a new realm,
one in which anyone and everyone can connect to and communicate at a faster speed
than ever before. With the creation of the internet came an alternative method in
which we are able to get information faster, and social media, where we are able to
communicate easier with those who are far from us. Despite these new means of
communication, there is a downfall to such innovation. As online communications
increase, humaninteraction deteriorates as we become vastly dependant on the internet
, to the extent where we cannot function properly without it.
Every day someone is looking for means to improve the speed of the internet.
Regardless of how fast it already is, it s never fast enough, people always want
more. Human life has become overly dependant on the internet to the extremities
in which they need it to accomplish small tasks such as obtaining information for a
report or simply searching up a word. With a tap on the keyboards we are able to
search through various websites and compare our findings with others. Every click
away, every second spent on relying on the internet is one second of our life sucked
away by the social realms. Zadie Smith in Generation Why? says, when a human

Everything shrinks. Individual character. Friendships.

The Role OfThe Patriots During The Revolutionary War The role the Patriots played in the revolutionary war. The revolutionary era refers to the uprising of the common people against authority in the late 1700s. Great Britain ruled the American colonies for several years since 1607. The American Revolution came as a need from the American people for independence from Great Britain. This need for independence was stirred up by the enactment of the Stamp Act in American colonies by the British. The stamp act was considered taxation without representation of the colonies in the British Parliament. It was put down as a threat to the freedom of the American people. People began violently rebelling against the British. These oppositions grew and spread throughout the colonies. The revolutionary movement divided the colonies into Patriots and Loyalists. Loyalists were colonists loyal to the British, while the Patriots were in support of the American Revolution. The Patriots began boycotting goods imported from Great Britain, and substituting them with homemade goods and cheap inferior goods. The merchants in the colonies were frustrated and could not sell their goods. Both Britain and the merchants lost profits due to this change. The importation of British goods was later banned in the American colonies. Merchants were being forced to sign documents denying the importation of British goods. Merchants whom refused to sign these documents were sent to the gallows to be tarred and feathered. Additionally, Loyalists were coerced by the patriots into supporting the American Revolution or they would be lynched in the gallows. Some loyalists who refused ran away with their families to Great Britain for fear of being killed. Such actions of people in the colonies frustrated the British and led to the Revolutionary war. The American Revolution began in 1775 and continued until 1783. The war started in the north. The British amounted support from Germany,

Applying Karl Mannheims Sociologist Approach to the... We can apply Karl Mannheim s sociologist approach to knowledge to the theories of two scholars of religion, Г‰mile Durkheim and William James. The ideas expressed by the subject are thus regarded as functions of his existence. This means that opinion, statements, propositions, and systems of ideas are not taken at their face value but are interpreted in the light of the life situation of the one who expresses them (Mannheim 50). Mannheim essentially believes that the acquisition of knowledge is based on the perspective of the observer. More obviously, their respective views stem from their fields of expertise; Durkheim, a sociologist, supports social constructionism as a rudimentary tool to understanding religion, while William James... Although both study religion in terms of experience, Durkheim did not want to look at the various individual s interaction with religion, but the communal aspects and interactions as a whole that would become religion. Durkheim believes that a community establishes a sense of stability within a power structure. A strong example of the power structure would be the Catholic Church, which uses coercive tools like the promise of salvation to strengthen itself. Thus Durkheim stresses the importance of the church in the second part of his definition, [...] prohibition beliefs and practices that unite its adherents in a single moral community called a church (Durkheim 46). Stressing the difference of the direction of his work in comparison to James, in Pragmatism and Sociology, Durkheim directly critiques the fact that James doesn t acknowledge structures of power, in the form of churches or any other institution, in his approach to religion. Even though there is a relationship of sacred and profane between the work of the two theorists, Durkheim s sociological approach seems to directly contrast the individualistic perspective that James brings. In the very first pages of The Elementary Forms of Religious Experience, Durkheim

At a news conference on Friday, investigators disclosed that when Bethany s father searched for her in an area she often goes, he found her two dogs guarding something. He thought it was an animal carcass, but he found out it was his daughter s body. Goochland County Sheriff Jim Agnew said that Bethany was apparently mauled by her two pit bulls whose combined weight was two times that of Bethany who was just about 100 pounds and stood at 5 foot and 1 inch. Grisly mauling Even if a friend of Bethany doubted the police theory, Agnew said that the dogs have something to do with her death. It placed once more a stigma on the dog breed after other cases involved Pit Bull attacks on people, including their owners. Among the evidence that the investigators cited why they believe that it was the two dogs that mauled the woman were defensive wounds on the hands and arms of 22 year old Bethany. Agnew said that it indicated she was attacked while alive. He said she apparently fell to the ground after the attack, lost consciousness, and the Pit Bulls mauled her to death. Agnew pointed out that there were no strangulation marks on Bethany, but she had puncture wounds in the skull. The evidence made the probers rule out homicide. However, Barbara Norris, a friend of Bethany, questioned the police theory because the victims raised the two dogs as

The City OfThe Mercantile City 1.Within the last few centuries, cities as have evolved to take on the features that are used today to identify the makings of what is a great city. As cities shifted from the concept of the political city to the mercantile city and finally the industrial city, traditional political, economic and social patterns began to take on new forms and functions that transformed them to become the urbanized spaces they are now. Major early cites began in the form of the political city, a place that was the functioning center of the state or empire. Often populated by the bureaucratic ruling class, the city was regarded as a space for elite. As the apex of the state, cities served as nexus of trade. A crossing ground for people, goods, and ideas. As this network of exchange transforms the common concept of the city, merchants slowly gained status and were allowed to move in. Gradually the once exclusively aristocratic setting evolved into what became known as the mercantile city where the market became the core of the city. No longer primarily a place of consuming elites, but a hub of new complexity, cities not only drew in commodities in the form of imports but also dynamic and profound ideas and people that reshaped cities as they were seen previously giving rise to Henri Lefebvre s notion of heterogeneity. Cities were mirroring social and cultural diversity with material processes; a picture of modernity as old ties were being replaced by newer ones. Thus began the

Silverstein relays these understandings into many of his works, including this poem called Where the Sidewalk Ends. . In the poem, the speaker depicts two specific places: the sidewalk and the street.During the first couple of reads, the poem is quite fairytale like, but truth be told, this poem may not be as whimsical as it seems. The second stanza is a quick transition to describing the street . A street is a place for commute, work, and responsibility and in the poem, the speaker uses of cacophony to connote this street as negative, dark, and dreary. With this, one can presume that the street symbolizes the adult world. This contrasts with the sidewalk, which is describe with a sense of serenity. The harsh, bleak words continue on in the stanza: Past the pits where the asphalt flowers grow (9). As a baby, I cannot imagine all the things I did that put myself in danger. I was completely unaware of the consequences of my actions. As a child, I was playful, innocent, and cheerful. Throughout my years of growing up I have learned many lessons through life. Only a few events happened before this one that I can remember. On my 6th birthday, life could have been lost, and from that I learned to always be careful and that life can change in an instant. First, I woke up Saturday afternoon. Since it was Saturday, I slept longer than usual. Today was the day chosen to celebrate my birthday, which was actually a few days before. It was my 6th birthday party. My parents and I decided that the party would take place at our home. We invited all our neighbors and friends. I was young, energetic, and ready to enjoy life. Next, I got out of my Rugrats sheet covered bed. I headed down the narrow and white hallway to the living room. I greeted my parents and had a small breakfast. I ate scrambled eggs and toast for breakfast. After eating I asked my parents if I could ride my bike with friends before coming back home. My parents agreed that was ok. I went into the garage to get my blue, new, Mongoose bicycle. My bicycle was a gift from my parents, which I received on my birthday. After returning home from bike riding, I got an hour of rest before the party was ready to begin. I exited

A Brief NoteOn Medicare And Medicaid Services Both Medicare and Medicaid are managed by the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS), which is a division of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services. Medicare was created in 1965 when people of over 65 found it impossible to get private health insurance coverage. Medicare is a Federal health insurance program that pays for hospital and medical care for elderly and certain individual with disabilities. The program consists of two main parts for hospital and medical insurance (Part A and Part B), and two additional parts the provide flexibility and prescription drugs (Part C and Part D). Medicaidis a health and medical service program for certain individuals and families with low incomes and few resources. Primary oversight is handle at the federal level, but each state establishes its own standards, determines the type, amount, duration and scope of services, sets the rate of payment for services, and administers its own Medicaid program. Reimbursement to providers are through a fee for service model or through various prepaid arrangements, such as a HMO plan. Because of laws not including married women in rape situations, men do not have to worry about being charged with something that is obviously a crime. RSAC without battery is usually in nonmarried couples. There is still a possibility of ending the relationship quickly, which usually keeps the man from committing the extra physical abuse. What is the solution to how do we prevent rape from happening? I believe the best solution is education. Women need to become more aware of surroundings and situations that lead to date rape. Because of the low report rate, many women think that the problem is minimal

History of MayanCulture History of Mayan Culture The mysterious culture of ancient Maya once covered a vast geographic area in Central and South America. Their civilization extended to parts of what are now Mexico, Honduras, and El Salvador, and most of Guatemala and Belize. The Mayans first settled in 1500BC. The Mayans environment consisted of tropical rainforests, which was also one of their main sources of resources, they turned the jungles into great cities. The rainforest would provide them with food, clothing, weapons, tools, and many more useful items. It rained almost everyday, but the temperature was not cold at least in the daytime. Each large city had one supreme chief who ruled for life, upon his death a son or brother took over. In some cases wife took over. If no family successor was available a new ruler was selected from the upper class. Crime was also an issue for the Mayans. Criminals were punished in different ways according to what they had done. A thief would become the servant of his victim. Murderers were put to death, sometimes as part of ritual sacrifices. For minor crimes, hair was cut as a sign of disrespect. There were also class separations like the ruling class and the common people. Warriors were a separate class themselves too. In battle the Mayans fought with wooden clubs, flint knives, spears, and slingshots. Weapons and tools were made from bone, parts of animals, soil, stone, metal/copper, and wood. RELIGION The Mayans were very religious people; their religion regulated almost everything in their life. Priests were the most important people in the tribes. The Mayans believed their gods had destroyed and recreated their earth several times that is why they always tried to please their gods with sacrifices. Each God represented something for them. Reaction Paper OnSmoking In Movies Slide 1: Introduction Slide 2: Rachel According to the surgeon general, young people who see smoking portrayed in movies are 2 3 times more likely to start smoking themselves. One of the goals of the Healthy People 2020 program is to reduce onscreen smoking in movies and TV shows, especially in youth rated material, which is rated as G, PG, and PG 13. From 2005 to 2010, there was a steady decrease in the number of onscreen smoking incidents in these films, but this decline stopped after 2010. If the decline had continued, all youth rated films would have contained no smoking incidents by 2015. That would have meant a huge reduction in teen smoking. Slide 3: Rachel As we can see from this graph, PG 13 movies from 2010 2016 showed no net decrease in smoking incidents. G/PG rated movies had an 87% decrease in smoking incidents, while they increased in PG 13 movies by 43%. Slide 4: Rachel So how can we make some progress on this issue? The 6 major motion picture companies already have policies in place to limit the number of smoking incidents in youth rated movies. However, we saw in the graph that these policies are not helping with PG 13 movies. Stricter guidelines should be followed. Another solution is to give any movie with a smoking depiction an R rating. Exceptions would be historical depictions or if the film showed smoking in a negative light. A study on films from 1998 2003 indicated that this R rating could decrease teen smoking by 18%. Bill Naughton sPlay Spring and Port Wine Essay Bill Naughton s Play Spring and Port Wine How does the playwright, Bill Naughton, prepare the audience for the first appearance for Rafe on the stage? What are the audience expected to think about him? 07817966841 224 1970 In this coursework I will be focusing on a play called Spring and Port Wine . It was first performed in 1965 and is set about forty years ago. I am going to comment on how social and historical things have changed since then and how we as an audience are expected to think of the character called Rafe before his first entry in the play. At the start of the play in the stage directions we get a lot of information about what Rafe is like. We find out that he looks after his family by giving them a... We are also shown that the family is to some extent frightened of Rafe when Florence says God help you if he ever finds out , and I wouldn t want to tell a barefaced lie to Rafe . This shows they are afraid of how Rafe might react if he finds out they have changed some figures in the housekeeping. As the play goes on we discover that Rafe is fussy about keeping the house clean when Daisy says Rafe always likes to come home to everything spick and span of a Friday . This tells us that he expects the house to be spotless before he comes back home from work. We also learn that Rafe likes routine as Daisy says Rafe s got this obsession about keeping accounts straight , and Rafe always liked fish on Friday . All this shows that Rafe is scrupulous about the house and money. Betsy Jane, a slovenly nosey neighbour is a useful character of telling us what the neighbours think of Rafe. We see that she is in total contrast with the Crompton family because Rafe and his family are very cautious about money but Betsy Jane is careless with money. Betsy Jane does not think very highly of Rafe, she thinks that he has no right to get in the way of how Daisy controls the housekeeping money. We notice this when she says what right has he to interfere with your

Trademarks also show value and image as an effort to create a notion of quality or uniqueness in the mind of the customer. Trademark infringement takes place when there is chance of confusion between two products or services offered by different companies (Knudson, 2006). Trademarks are usually a crucial element of company s marketing strategy and therefore need to be selected carefully and safeguarded consistently against all possible violators. Copyrights are used in protection of artistic works like books, plays, films, music, paintings, or computer software. Copyright infringement entails use of such works either in part of whole without prior permission of their owners, or without acknowledging the source (Knudson, 2006). Trade secret refers to any intellectual property that grants its holder a competitive edge over the competitors. It includes any information which may in from of a formula, pattern, compilation, program, technique, process that derives sovereign economic value from not being known. Unlike patents which protect the original inventor regardless of the source of subsequent inventions, trade secrets are not safeguarded (Knudson, 2006). China s PoliticalInfluence On Foreign Policy China s Indo Pacific neighbors, notably Japan, Vietnam, Philippines, Indonesia, India and Australia, seem nervous about China s rapidly rising military threat strength and aggressive stance in foreign policy. Is China perceived as a military threat by these states? What measures have these states taken or are contemplating to deal with the Chinese threat? China s military rising has led to China s power in the East Asia region and concerns about China s power in the Indo Pacific region. Many scholars believe that when a state becomes powerful, it will defiantly seek greater regional political influence and consequently worldwide political influence. This influence will result in the change of the power structure in the region and eventually lead to a long term security danger. According to the power structure scholars, the history of international relations supports this argument. In the period between two World Wars, Germany became a powerful state and turned out to be the threat to the security of the West Atlantic region and finally caused the World War II. In addition, before the World War II Japan was a rising power and caused the Pacific war in the 1930s and 1940s (Jiangye2002,57). However, opponents claim that China as a rising power has not followed the examples of Germany and Japan because the international system has been changed. Opponents also believe that in the traditional international system the national interests of a rising power were to conflict and

Literacy Pedagogy Essay Effectiveteaching of literacy is developed through a deep understanding of the ways in which children learn, informing educators on the most beneficial pedagogical methods to utilise (Tompkins et al, 2012). Literacy pedagogy within the Australian context has changed drastically over time and has resulted in a myriad of pedagogical choices that influence contemporary literacyeducation(Kalantzis Cope, 2012). By critically analysing the changing approaches to literacy teaching within the Australian educational context, the four major literacy pedagogies: didactic, authentic, functional and critical can be explored linearly to highlight the theories behind each approach, their positive and negative attributes and how subsequent approaches have been integrated to result in a balanced approach to literacy education. Didactic pedagogy dates to the 1500 s and was the founding approach to literacy pedagogy when mass, compulsory, institutionalised education was first introduced in the 19th century (Kalantzis Cope, 2012). Didactic literacy education primarily involves lecturing and is essentially teacher centered (Banning, 2005). Didactic pedagogy is defined by the teacher controlling what is to be taught and how this information is to be delivered (Banning, 2005). The students role is to memorise and reproduce this content (Kalantzis Cope, 2012a). The approach also concerns comprehension of the meaning of written texts to be interpreted as intended by the author (Kalantzis

The way people communicate varies considerably between, and within, cultures and different norms regarding the appropriate level of assertiveness in communicating can add to cultural misunderstandings. One aspect of communication style is language usage, across cultures, some phrases and words are used in different ways. Additionally, body language or nonverbal communication is an essential part of how people communicate, and there are differences from culture to culture. Hand and arm gestures, touch, and eye contact or lack thereof, are a few of the aspects of nonverbal communication. Another aspect of communication style is the amount of importance given to non verbal communication. Non verbal communication includes facial expressions and gestures, personal distance, and sense of time. It is no surprise that people have difficulties understanding and communicating with one another due to different cultural customs and experiences, and these differences cause miscommunication. Communication is a complex system of comprehensive interaction where meaning is created and reflected in human interaction. Culture affects both the content and style of communication so that the cultural differences will cause misinterpretation by what is said, and that which is left unsaid. Carl Sandburg AndThe American Dream The American Dream is a well known concept and idea that many immigrants and Americans strived for in order to become successful. Unlike most countries where rising from rags to riches was highly uncommon and a hopeless dream, America was a place for people to work hard and achieve their dreams. Carl Sandburg was a very influential poet who came from very humble beginnings under immigrant parents who had moved to America. He believed in an ordered society where people could strive and accomplish what they chose without being influenced by the majority of the country. To achieve the American Dream, Sandburg had to travel across the States, overcome challenging experiences, such as searching for newspapers to work for, keeping a job, and dealing with the death of his daughter Madeline. His AmericanDreamof becoming a successful poet, journalist, and goal of leaving a lasting legacy only became reality after many years of hard work and perseverance. To begin, there are not many people who can say that their childhood started with joining the army, later living on the streets, and working a variety of jobs. Due to these circumstances, Sandburg had many goals and even more ideals he wished to share to the world. As a youth, he lived a difficult life, as he quit school in 8th grade and was always busy working to help his family by delivering milk, collecting ice, laying bricks, and more, before becoming a hobo in 1897 (Barr 1). Since suspended particles are surrounded by water particles (not in direct contact with other sediment particles) their yield stress will be zero (as пЃ¦=0) and they flows as a viscous material ([18] and [19]), they do not require any stress dependent rheological model and a constant viscosity is assigned. The Effects OfGroundwater Pollution On The World Groundwater pollution is a prominent problem in most areas of the world. High nitrate concentrations have been identified as one of the main culprits of groundwater pollution. Agriculture is a primary anthropogenic source involved in the spreading and distribution of nitrates in rural areas. China is considered one of the largest in terms of agricultural production. As the population of China increased over time, the recycling of plant nutrients could no longer renew the loss of nutrients from harvesting. The famine between 1960 and 1970 caused radical changes when it came to policies about population control and large efforts were made to increase agricultural yields. This was encouraged by increasing the application rate of chemical fertilizers, especially ones that were nitrogen based (Emteryd, Lu and Nykyist, 1998). However, higher irrigationand nitrogen fertilizerinputs results in decreased water and nitrogen use efficiency (Hu, Li, and Chen, 2010). Currently China is the leading producer of rice, wheat onion cabbage and the second largest producer of corn (See Appendix). Presently the average annual nitrogen fertilizer application is 200 kg N/ha in China (Zhang, Xu, XIaomin, Dong and Ballantine, 2013). As a result of this, China unsurprisingly suffers from large amounts of nitrate pollution in its groundwater, especially in northern China. The main focus of this paper will therefore be on the North China Plain and the provinces surrounding the Yangtze River as

History Of BaseballEssay len 5/2/17 History History of Baseball The start of the game of baseball is unknown, but some people believe they know when it started. The game of baseball believes to start in England. The start of baseball was around 1760, the game was called Rounder. Rounder had the same rules as baseball today, but it had its difference. The biggest difference was that a fielder had to throw the ball at the runner to get them out. The game changed in 1845. A group of people got together to talk about the game. They wanted to make the game safer. They changed the rules of the fielder. He would not throw at the baserunner anymore; they must tag the baserunner with the ball. The equipment changed as well when they made the rule change. They started to use a harder ball. The game of baseball became an organized sport in 1840 and 1850. Baseball is becoming more popular in America. For example, by 1860 the sport took the crown of America favorite sport over England cricket. Baseball han t always been an economic powerhouse. By the 1869, the first professional baseball team was created. The Cincinnati Red Stocking were the first all professional team. Before the Red Stocking, the game of baseball was an amateur sport. Essay about TheTrue Tragic Hero of Creon in Sophocles ... The True Tragic Hero of Creon in Sophocles Antigone There has always been a great debate over who is the true tragic hero in Sophocles Antigone. Many scholars would stake claim to Antigone possessing all the necessary characteristics of a true tragic hero, but many others would argue that Creon holds many qualities as well. It is hard to discount Antigone as a tragic hero, because in fact, the play bears her name, but from careful reading, Creon meets Aristotle s criteria exactly and fits perfectly into the role. In order to determine whether or not Creon is the true tragic hero, one must answer the question: What is a Tragic Hero? In Aristotle s Poetics, he discusses the basic criteria regarding a tragic hero. Aristotle ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Creon said, ?...And whoever places a friend above the good of his own county, he is nothing: I have no use for him.? (203 205). Again, his high standards and honor for his country are shown in great detail: ?I could never stand by silent, watching destruction march against our city, putting safety to rout? (207 208). Creon shows a high sense of morality when he properly buried Eteocles, and then is showing his noble character by not burying Polyneices, who attacked Creon?s country; again his value of his country is shown. Creon is a good ruler because he like any king would punish evil and reward good. Creon is seen by the chorus to have ?goodness? and leadership. (Lines 691). The chorus praises Creon for his loyalty to the country after the great war, they look forward to his kingly rule and nobility in the future by saying, ?. . . Creon, the new man for the great new day?(Lines 173). Love of his country and his punishment of Polyneices show this great nobility and loyalty talked about by the chorus. Clearly Creon qualifies under the first criterion of being a tragic hero. The second criterion for being a tragic hero is that one is neither purely evil nor pre eminently great. Although Creon possesses many good kingly qualities, as far a honor and nobility, his imperfection lies in his excessive pride and hubris, as well as his self indulgence as King of Thebes. Creon shows his power and pride

Songs Break UpSongs Break Up Songs Throughout Different Genres What does Paris by The Chainsmokers, Say Something by A Great Big World, and Here Comes Goodbye by Rascal Flatts all have in common? They are break up songs. Each in their own way, all of these songs are about pain and sadness caused by break ups. Some of these songs are meant to cause an already sad person to cope with their sadness by pushing them farther into The Abyss . A few are meant to touch on the happier memories of the relationship giving someone hope that they will love again. All of these songs, through their lyrics, structure, and rhythm, are all meant to cope with a person s sadness that results from a break up. Paris by the Chainsmokers is a song that reflects on the happy side of a relationship that is rarely seen in break ups. The song is essentially the writer remembering a relationship with fondness. It tells the tale of two young lovers on their own and in love who eventually break apart. It also touches on happy memories like the lyrics We were staying in paris,/ to get away from your parents (Chainsmokers, 1 2). By highlighting the highs instead of lows, it shows the listener that they should not be sad about their loss but happy that they ever got to experience the joy and happiness that most relationships provide. Almost no relationships end with happiness but this song shows that it is possible to think happily of a relationship that has ended. This song also uses higher pitched, electronic music to

Ancient Carthage Vs.Rome CГЎrthage vs. Rome Introduction This paper compares the rise and influence of CarthagГnian to Roman power in the MediterrГЎnean region between the ninth and second BCE centuries, and identifies some of the reasons that led to Rome becoming the dominating force over CГЎrthage. I would argue that while Rome was ultimately the greater military power, CГЎrthage from a geopolitical and commercial viewpoint was equally, if not more successful than Rome in the same period of time leading up to the start of the first Punic war (264 BCE). Origins The cities of CГЎrthage and Rome were founded within one hundred years of each other. Rome Rome on the other hand, was founded by farmers seeking a nearby defensive hilltop (Morey, 1901), which suggests that the city s expertise was initially limited to agricultural and military skills. It is the different intention behind the founding of each city, which I feel is significant. CГЎrthage was established far away for commercial gain, an offensive endeavor. Rome was established for defensive positioning against neighboring enemies, and perhaps as a stronghold for future offensive activities (i.e., the building the Roman Empire). Road to Conflict While CГЎrthage was annexing Northern Africa and Southern Spain (giving them control of the Straights of Gibraltar and access to the Atlantic Ocean), and the nearby islands of Sicily, Corsica and Sardinia, Rome seems to have been preoccupied with fighting closer to home, the Gauls to the north, the Latinums to the south, and the Samnites and the Greeks. Much of Rome s rise to military power appears to be limited to land army fighting, as they cleaned up their own preverbal backyard. Meanwhile, the CarthagГnians were plying the Atlantic Ocean and trading with England for tin (Gascoigne, n.d.). The map below shows CГЎrthage s possessions prior to the first Punic war (264 BCE). CГЎrthage controlled North Africa s coastal areas closest to Rome, controlled access to the Atlantic Ocean, as well as most of SГcily and

From the very beginning of his discussion Socrates refutes every definition of justice proposed by both his friends and enemies, finding problems in every argument. Though initially he does not put forward any definition himself, Socrates still proves that he has a much deeper understanding of true justice. Socrates is intent on not only determining the definition of justice but also proving that living justly will bring one the most happiness in life. In order to establish the case for injustice, Socrates s close friend, Glaucon, steps in to argue for the side of injustice. He argues that people are only just for the benefits of justice, not only because they believe living justly is the right thing to do. Glaucon explains, The best is to do injustice without paying the penalty... Suppose we grant to the just and the unjust person the freedom to do whatever they like... we will catch the just person redhanded, traveling the same road as the unjust one, (Book 2, page 38, line 349c) Glaucon argues that when given the opportunity, even the most just man will fall to the temptation of the rewards of injustice. This leads him to explain the legend of the ring of Gyges. The ring of Gyges contained magical properties that would render the wearer invisible. In the legend the man who finds the ring, recognizing that there would be no repercussions for his actions, immediately falls into an unjust life. He breaks into the castle, seduces the Queen, and kills the King, taking over the land and power the king once possessed. Glaucon argues that even the most just man would use this ring to satisfy his appetites for material things and power. In response to this reasoning, Socrates makes a strong argument in favor of justice that help to prove, without a doubt, that behaving justly is in our best interest. Socrates first describes a tyrant, the epitome of an unjust man. The tyrant is controlled by his appetites for wealth and material things. When he eventually spends the last of his money on material things he borrows money from others, and later turns to crime in order to fulfill his increasing desires. Socrates asks, Mustn t his soul be full of slavery and illiberality, with those same parts of it enslaved, while a small part, the most wicket and most insane, is master? (Book 9,

Why Is MaRainey Important Gertrude Ma Rainey is a pivotal figure in the history of American music. She was the first person to ever perform blues and the first internationally known African American female blues singer. Her music acted as inspiration for many distinguished figures during the Harlem Renaissance, and continues to influence contemporary music and art. A single source of blues music cannot be traced, but Ma Rainey is rightfully credited with introducing it to the world. Hence the reason she was dubbed as The Mother of the Blues . During an interview in the 1930s, Ma told musicologist John Work, that she heard what would be called blues, for the first time around 1902. She was in a small town in Missouri working a show at the time, and one morning a local girl came into the tent singing about a man whom had left her. This new style of soulful music drew in Ma Rainey so much she later had the girl teach her the song. Rainey performed the song as an encore in a show soon after, earning a special place in the show, and marking the start of her career (Jas Obrecht Archive). Gertrude Pridgett was born in 1986 to tent performers Thomas Pridgett Sr. and Ella Allen Pridgett. Both were said to had traveled around the south performing minstrel shows, which was the most popular form of live comedy entertainment from 1840 to the early nineteenth century (Biography.com). In general, the medieval chroniclers were not very helpful in distinguishing between various infections, and this reflects the prevailing mindset to disease at the time. Rather than regarding diseases as discrete entities caused by specific pathogens, pre modern writers generally believed that disease was caused by environmental factors, especially swamp miasmas or urban filth. What is more, diseases were understood as existing along

Joan Of ArcAs A Leader Of Women Leader of Men The Renaissance Era brought about the desire for expansion, in terms of both territory and ideals. Joan of Arc was a strong woman who stepped up and was able to restore the morale of France during this era, after the French throne was taken over by the English. She dressed as a man and took on roles that were dominantly held by men. Even when she knew she would be punished by death for her behaviors she refused to change her ways. Joan of Arc was unlike any other women of the time and refused to be oppressed. Joan of Arc was born on January 6, 1412 in Lorraine to French peasants. As a young girl Joan of Arc was often found doing housework or tending to her father s flock. She was a very kind hearted girl and would often put those in need before herself. Those who knew her described her as a devout Christian. Hadoop Distributed FileSystem Analysis HADOOP DISTRIBUTED FILE SYSTEM Abstract Hadoop Distributed File System, a Java based file system provides reliable and scalable storage for data. It is the key component to understand how a Hadoop cluster can be scaled over hundreds or thousands of nodes. The large amounts of data in Hadoop cluster is broken down to smaller blocks and distributed across small inexpensive servers using HDFS. Now, MapReduce functions are executed on these smaller blocks of data thus providing the scalability needed for big data processing. In this paper I will discuss in detail on Hadoop, the architecture of HDFS, how it functions and the advantages. I.INTRODUCTION Over the years it has become very essential to process large amounts of data with high precision and speed. This large amounts of data that can no more be processed using the Traditional Systems is called Big Data. Hadoop, a Linux based tools framework addresses three main problems faced when processing Big Data which the Traditional Systems cannot. The first problem is the speed of the data flow, the second is the size of the data and the last one is the format of data. Hadoop divides the data and computation into smaller pieces, sends it to different computers, then gathers the results to combine them and sends it to the application. This is done using Map Reduce and HDFS i.e., Hadoop Distributed File System. The data node and the name node part of the architecture fall under HDFS. II.ARCHITECTURE Hadoop works on

Preserving And DevelopingA National Identity Preserving and developing a national identity in China has been and continues to be an ongoing commitment, most notably since the seventeenth century. A nation is an imagined community consisting of a so called myth of common descent, where those who contribute to society share a common experience. The concept of a national identity is crucial in understanding the history of Chinaas it developed into a nation. Factors that have been established to define identity can consist of the following: the relation one has to a specific territory; the government system; religions; ideologies and beliefs; and importantly, in China, the relationship between government and class social structures. With the conquest of the Manchus over the Ming Empire during the transition from the Ming Dynasty to the Qing Dynasty, the loss of ones native identity was on the line. The preservation of national identity was critical for both the Han and the Manchus. Manchus feared in losing their national identity in which they ensured to preserve their shamanism: the notion of having a spiritual death and rebirth, thus going into a supernatural world where they could then influence events (Schoppa, 36). With the Manchus fighting for the recognition and preservation of their national identity, they would perform their shamanic rituals in the city, such as in the Forbidden City, along with enforcing tactics that would prevent the Manchus and the Chinese mainlanders to associate with one another closely. However, at a point, as Schoppa elaborated, the Manchus conformed and [bought themselves] into Chinese culture (Schoppa, 26). By doing so, the political and social contributers of the empire felt as if their identity was on the line. Moreover, during the reign of the Qian long Emperor, when China peaked with its wealth and power, when it was in its prime of commercialization and urbanization, was when it led to more social development, and an increase in population. This urbanization and social development due to increasing population was a large contributor to the dissolving national identity of China (Schoppa, 35). During this period, in the

The Importance OfOnline Communication In the past decade technological improvements have progressed and expanded throughout our world. Such advancements have led to the creation of a new realm, one in which anyone and everyone can connect to and communicate at a faster speed than ever before. With the creation of the internet came an alternative method in which we are able to get information faster, and social media, where we are able to communicate easier with those who are far from us. Despite these new means of communication, there is a downfall to such innovation. As online communications increase, humaninteraction deteriorates as we become vastly dependant on the internet , to the extent where we cannot function properly without it. Every day someone is looking for means to improve the speed of the internet. Regardless of how fast it already is, it s never fast enough, people always want more. Human life has become overly dependant on the internet to the extremities in which they need it to accomplish small tasks such as obtaining information for a report or simply searching up a word. With a tap on the keyboards we are able to search through various websites and compare our findings with others. Every click away, every second spent on relying on the internet is one second of our life sucked away by the social realms. Zadie Smith in Generation Why? says, when a human being becomes a set of data on a website like Facebook, he or she is reduced. Everything shrinks. Individual character. Friendships.
