Gattaca Essays
Writing an essay on the topic of "Gattaca" can be a challenging task that requires a deep
understanding of the film and its underlying themes. "Gattaca" is a thought-provoking science
fiction movie that explores complex issues such as genetic engineering, discrimination, and the
pursuit of one's dreams despite societal constraints. Crafting an essay on this subject demands a
thorough analysis of the characters, plot, and the social commentary presented in the film.
To begin with, one must delve into the intricate narrative of "Gattaca" and dissect the symbolism
embedded within the storyline. Understanding the characters' motivations, relationships, and the
implications of a society driven by genetic perfection is crucial. Moreover, one needs to draw
connections between the film's futuristic setting and contemporary issues, exploring the ethical
dilemmas posed by advancements in genetic technology.
The essay should also delve into the film's cinematography and artistic choices, as they play a
significant role in conveying its message. Analyzing the use of visual elements, such as color
schemes and camera angles, can provide insights into the director's intentions and enhance the
depth of the essay.
Furthermore, addressing the societal implications of the themes presented in "Gattaca" requires a
comprehensive exploration of real-world parallels. Examining the ethical considerations of
genetic engineering and its potential impact on social hierarchies adds an extra layer of
complexity to the essay.
In conclusion, writing an essay on "Gattaca" demands not only a thorough understanding of the
film itself but also an ability to connect its themes to broader societal issues. Crafting a well-
researched and insightful essay requires analytical skills, critical thinking, and a nuanced
understanding of the complexities embedded in the narrative.

A Streetcar Named Desire Character Analysis
Tennessee Williams was one of the most successful playwright at his time. In one of
his play, which earned him the Pulitzer Prize as well as many other awards A
Streetcar Named Desire takes place in New Orleans during the mid 1940s. This
incredible play explores numerous of important themes and conflict between the
characters. The story takes us to the lives of three main characters, Blanche DuBois,
Stanley Kowalski, and Stella Kowalski, who have different ways of living and
managing with their environment in which they live in. The story start off with
Blanche, who comes to visit her sister, Stella, but end up in an unexpected
situations. From the time Blanche got to Elysium Fields, she and Stanley are
constantly scolding each other because Stanley and Blanche wants Stella to be on
their side and neither one of them will give her up. They will not let this through, if
one of them is to win and other leaving defeated. However, Stanley and Blanche
represent something else bigger, not just two dissension characters. They are strongly
portrayed as polar opposites when they are first introduced in the play. The difference
between the two characters is shown through their appearance, since Blanche is
portrayed as a delicate moth while Stanley is portrayed as animalistic. Blanche
represent the image of the old south because of the way she expressing things, worth,
and lifestyle, while Stanley represent the new south, as being dominant, aggressive,
and sexual. Moreover, Blanche
Japanese Attack On Pearl Harbor
One fateful morning on Sunday, December 7, 1941, Japanese attack planes first hit
the U.S. naval base at Pearl Harbor in Honolulu, Hawaii at 7:53AM. Approximately
more than 2,000 soldiers and sailors were killed, and 1,000 were injured. The
Japanese destroyed 200 airplanes and 20 American naval vessels, including 8
colossal battleships in just two hours. This surprise attack caused President Franklin
D. Roosevelt and Congress to declare war on Japan, and its allies Italy and Germany
also declared war on the United States3 days later.
Japan had been invading French Indochina to expand into their territories and to
take over its import market, because they believed that that was what had to be
done in order to solve its economic problems. This aggression towards China
angered President Franklin D. Roosevelt, since the U.S had political ties with
them, so he imposed a ban on trades with Japan which included its economy s
essential supplies such as the export of oil, steel, and iron. The President s act
resulted in Japan s barrage on Pearl Harbor. In an attempt to retaliate against the U.S.
president s imposition, the Japanese ambushed its naval base by sending aircraft to
destroy and kill hundreds of battleships and soldiers. The attack was unforeseen
because nobody thought Japan would invade American territory, considering it would
be inconvenient since Japan and Hawaii were 4,000 miles apart.
This blitz attack shocked and enraged the citizen of Americans, but in retrospect
Persuasive Speech About Violence Against Women
What is so special about our humanity? As human, We can express ourselves
however we want, We know the differences between right and wrong, and equal
does not mean that we have to act exactly the same. But it does mean that i have the
exact same rights as you, and should be treated with the same amount with the same
amount of respect and dignity you would want to be given. It should not matter what
you look like, where you from, your gender, or who you love.
We are all different and that should be respected. Everyone should be treated equally,
because violence against women is unacceptable, because the LGBT community has
gone through so much crap but they always thrive, because undocumented
immigrants are treated like human garbage for coming into a country to build a better
life for themselves and their families.
Women are 90 percent of rape victims in the united states, and 13 percent of rape
victim survivors will attempt to commit suicide. Women ages 16 to 19 are four
times more likely to be raped than the general population. Imagine that a 16 to 19
year old girl at school or at a party or somewhere. She is getting sexually assaulted
by a man that probably has 100 pounds on her, and she is lying there helpless and
now imagine that this sweet girl that was just assaulted is your child. She does not
tell you because she thinks you won t believe her but instead attempts to kill herself
because she is ashamed that she could not stop it, or she tells you everything, and they

Los Angeles is known as the city of angels but also it has been known that it
contains a lot of immigrants and homeless. The city is located in the southern part
of California so it s no surprise that most people who live there are illegal

homeless life is at. Los Angelesis also known where most movies and shows are

where most celebrities are more likely to appear. Although Los Angeles has it s ups

Tuxedos, dresses, wedding dresses, and suits are seen in the windows of stores
along with the prices. Some prices I ve seen have been about 100 1000 dollars for
some suits or tuxedos. There is also a marketplace that sells meat and vegetables at
cheap prices that are all fresh. Vegetables from different countries are found in the
marketplace for people who want to recreate the food they have in their home
country. In Downtown the more further down you go there is where all the good
stuff is sold. Weapons.toys, imported goods, and electronics are sold there. In every
street, there are about ten shops next to each other with every step that you take. It
s very rare to not find something a person might need to not be at one of the shops.
Beauty supplies that are expensive are found for a very cheap price like 20
dollars. Although shops are great there is one place that people usually never pass
or go to due to the amount of homeless that live there. Skid Row is where a huge
amount of homeless people live. Tents and sleep bags are everywhere in that
street. The street is so filled with homeless people that some homeless sleep on the
side of the road due to not having enough space in the street. People would go around
skid row because people are scared entering with a possibility of them being rob.
There are no businesses in skid row so there is no reason for going there except for

Chamber Music Progression
Over the past few years, chamber music has been an integral part of my life and
career as a musical artist. I would not be the musician I am today without having
collaborated with some of the most inspiring people I have ever encountered, whether
they are world class experienced artists or young musicians that are just starting out.
My life would not be complete without combining a career of chamber musicand solo
performances and over the past few years. I believe they both provide very different
challenges and one cannot be a complete musician without maintaining a balance
between the two. Solo concertos teach you about the most challenging technical
issues and sound production you will encounter. But the way chamber music

It was through chamber music that I met JP, performing in a concert at Baruch
College in New York. We quickly realized how much we had in common; both of us
had come from Spanish speaking countries to New York City to study and create a
path for ourselves. Discussing musical ideas and composers, we both discovered our
common love for Bernstein s Serenade for violin and orchestra. After much thinking
and planning, four orchestras came on board (Alabama Symphony, San Antonio
Chamber Orchestra, Metropolis Ensemble and Balearic Islands Symphony
Orchestra) to co commission a double concerto to honor Bernstein s Centennial in
2018. Chamber music brought us together and we were happy to put our minds to
work and come up with an interesting project. We are now in the planning stages for
all the other performances outside the co commissioners and excited to bring it to a
variety of places and people in the next few years. It will hopefully aid expanding the
repertoire and the connections through different music genres and audiences, just like

transactional factors. Transformational change occurs as a response to the external

It was from these experiences that our model took form. As a case example, we
refer to the work at British Airways later in this article. For a more recent overview
of that change effort, .see Goodstein and Burke (1991). Other Organizational Models
Frotn the perspective of both research about organizations and consultation to
organizational clients, we have experienced some frustration about rnost if not all
current organizational tnodcls that do little more than describe or depict. A case in
point is the 7S model developed by Pascale and Athos (1981) and futthcr honed by
Peters and Watertnan (1982). Parenthetically, lot us quickly add that by cotnparing
our tnodel with others, particularly those the teader may be familiaj with, if not fond

contribution, not cast our comments in a competitive manner. The strengths of the 7S
model arc (a) its description of organizational variables that convey obvious
importance strategy, structure, systems, style, staff, skills, and shared values (as will
be seen, we have incorporated these dimensions in one form or another in our model)
and (b) its recognition of the importance of the intenelationships among all of these

Willing To Sacrifice As A Brock University Student
As a Brock University Student, you may have discovered that while doing well in
your classes is important, having fun is also important. Balancing your studies with
fun, though, can sometimes be a struggle. Luckily, you can establish this important
balance in your life.
Be Willing to Sacrifice
There are times that you will need to make sacrifices as a university student. You may
need to sacrifice going to a fun social activity with your roommates, so you finish
an important paper. At some point, you may need to decide if you are willing to
sacrifice your perfect grades in a class so you can spend more time with your
roommate or get enough sleep. Know where you are willing to sacrifice and where
you are not willing to sacrifice.

Descartes s Argument On The Existence Of God
In A Discourse on the Method, Descartes attempted to prove the existence of God in a
priori manner. He did not trust his own senses when trying to prove the existence of
God and therefore he relied on the ontological argument. By making the same
assumption made by Anselm, which was that an ontological argument assumes that
existenceis a predicate of God, Descartes is able to conclude that God exists is true
by definition because the subject God , who already contains all perfections,
already contains the predicate exists, which is a perfection. Although this may be
perceived as a strong claim to believers, many such as Gaunilo would have
disagreed. Descartes postulates his argument in the fourth part of his Discourse in
order to try and prove the existence of God. One must discuss why one feels
Descartes attempted to do so and exactly how convincing his claim is. However,
before one can understand his claim, it is important to grasp an idea of the
background that Descartes was writing from when he wrote the Discourse and the
meaning of proof.
Descartes was a physico mathematician who dedicated a lot of his time to science.
He realised that all truths tend to link to one another and therefore combining a
fundamental truth with logic, would for him, lead to science. As a devoted Catholic,
Descartes claimed that one of the main purposes of the Mediations was to defend
Christian faith. In terms of proof, proof is evidence or an argument that establishes or

Antidepressant Essay
Antidepressants are overprescribed Mitrea (2007) defines antidepressants as an
agent or a drug that is most commonly used to prevent or treat depression.
However, in today s society it could be said that antidepressants are being over
prescribed and are being used to treat a vast range of other conditions, as well as
clinical depression. When the first antidepressant was developed, manufacturers
were reluctant to put it on the market due to the extremely low number of people
suffering from depression. Now, antidepressant drugs have a very dominant place in
the drug market, with studies showing that they are now one of the most widely
prescribed categories of drugs (Mark 2010). There could be a number of reasons for
this increase in... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Macdonald et al. (2009) suggest that the current levels of antidepressant prescribing
needs to be assessed. In this study, which gave an insight into General Practitioners
(GPs) perspectives on the rise of antidepressant prescriptions, it was evident that
many GPs believed that unhappiness, exacerbated by social deprivation and the
breakdown of traditional social structures, was being medicalised inappropriately
(Macdonald et al. 2009). However, participation in this study was voluntary so it is
very likely that GPs who were interested in mental health and comfortable with their
own prescribing practice would be more likely to take part, thus raising the question;
are antidepressants really overprescribed? Despite the increasing number of studies
on the over prescription of antidepressants some support this rise in antidepressant
use, arguing that it is better to diagnose depression too often and too little (Barber
2008). Research has also been conducted not on over prescription, but in fact under
prescription of antidepressants. These researchers are challenging the wide spread
assumption that doctors are handing out antidepressants too often, and suggest that
they are in fact being underused instead of overused. In contrast to the study by
Macdonald et al. (2009), Cameron et al. (2009) challenged the hypothesis that
Whey Protein Research Paper
In the world of protein you will find that there are 4 primary types available with
each having its own unique set of benefits and problems. Below, I am going to
discuss the different types and how they should and shouldn t be used.
Whey Protein
Whey protein is by and large the most popular and arguably the best type of protein
and/or supplement on the market today. Often called the gold standard of protein,
whey is a total protein meaning it contains all of the necessary amino acids due to its
Branched chain amino acids structure (BCAA s). BCAA s are naturally occurring
molecules (leucine, isoleucine, and valine) that the body uses to build proteins. The
term branched chain refers to the molecular structure of these particular amino ...

Studies have demonstrated that casein protein can sustain the body with a regular
supply of amino acids for at least seven hours, making casein the most anabolic
protein, even more than whey. The rationale behind this is really because casein
forms a gel in acidic environments like the stomach, and so releases a steady supply
of amino acids into the bloodstream, permitting your body to remain anabolic.
Since casein is kind of a slow digesting protein, consuming 30 50 grams before bed
will stop catabolism while you re asleep. You may also consume casein protein
across the day, just never after a workout. Post workout protein should be soaked up
fast into the bloodstream, making casein a particularly bad choice. Casein protein
can be taken pre workout as well, but this would not be the best use. A better pre
workout shake would be to mix together a blend of casein and whey protein, thus
permitting you to drink it inside thirty minutes of your workout.
Milk contains over 80% casein protein, so mixing whey protein with milk will not
only make your shake taste better but it will give you a make shift time release
formula, effective straight away and sustaining for hours to come. Also, mixing your
casein with milk before bed will ensure you stay anti catabolic across the
New York City Similarities
In the north and south of the United States, there are many differences in culture. The
weather, the population, and the economy are a few. They both have the same
language but are spoken in two different accents. You can always tell the difference
between the two.
New York City is in the northern part of the United States and is considered the
city that never sleeps. It is also known as The Big Apple . People are walking the
streets, eating at restaurants and going to bars at all hours of the night. Tourist
come to see the attractions and to go shopping. There are many ways of
transportation: train, bus, cab, car, or walking. Public transportation is twenty four
hours a day and seven days a week and is their main source of getting around town.
Housing is mostly apartments or condos that are for rent. Most people do not own
their own homes or own a vehicle, because they cannot afford it. The cost of living
in New York Cityis more expensive than most popular cities. The rent for a one
bedroom apartment is around 3,000 an month. Childcare is close to 2,000 an
month. In order to maintain a comfortable lifestyle most New Yorkers make close
to 7,000 dollars a month. The population is 8,537,673 as of 2016 and as many as
800 languages spoken there. People often keep to themselves and really have no
time to get to know each other, because it is a fast pace environment. It has the
largest foreign born population in the world and 61 million tourists go there for
vacation. The
Broad Construction Of The Constitution Essay
History is a major part of a country and its citizen s heritage. However, America s
heritage is a short yet confusing one with different events and opinions argued as its
true beginning as a sovereign nation. Although historians argue that the Spanish
settlement of St. Augustine in Florida marks the start of American History, the
written Constitution and development of a government more accurately reflects the
beginning because this shows the beginning of an organized, connected and strong
nation.
According to Albert P. Blaustein, It can easily be argued that America s most
important export has been the Constitution of the United States. (Blaustein). The

Milanich, In 1565 Spain established the earliest permanent European settlement in
North America at San AugustГn (present day St. Augustine) on the Atlantic coast of
the Florida peninsula. When the Spaniards anchored in Florida, they did not mean to
colonize or begin a new nation separated from Europe, or even their native Spain.
Instead, they chose to claim the area of land that they had settled on, for Spain. The
Spanish did not consider themselves Americans but as Spaniards, claiming new land

The Challenges Of King Jamestown
Jamestown faced many challenges along the way and even from the start. Spain had
taken control of the seas and the new world. England knew they needed a chunk of
this new world. To accomplish this objective, King James I sent Bartholomew
Gosnold to establish the Virginia company and to colonize new land in North
America. When the 3 ships arrived off the coast of Virginia, a terrible storm made the
sailors lost in the Chesapeake bay. This lead them to find the a peninsula on the
James river where they decided to build their settlement Jamestown.
When the colonists arrived they assumed the Natives would be friendly. They
wouldn t carry their muskets around and weren t prepared so they ended up getting
attacked and killed by the Natives. At
Walt Disney Essay
The Walt Disney Company has come a long way since Steamboat Willie where,
the iconic face representing the brand, Mickey Mouse appeared in 1928 (Telotte,

America for 28 years; more specifically, in California and Florida (Ferrell, O., Hirt,

Planning in a global economy requires businesspeople to understand the economic,
legal, political, and sociocultural realities of the country in which they will operate
(Ferrell, O., Hirt, Ferrell, L., 2009, p. 106). There is an inherent need to focus and
develop an international strategy prior to a leap for leaping sake. Simply
assuming a business will do well elsewhere because of the level of success in its
home court, is not enough for true globalization efforts. The company learned it
could not impose the American way of operations and facilities on another culture
(Ferrell, O., Hirt, Ferrell, L., 2009). Despite, those loyal fans that traveled to
America to visit the parks, an understanding of the culture is imperative for success,
as it illustrates a respect for their way of living. There is no brand that can cross

PSA Essay
Creating a PSA (Public Service Announcement) may have seemed like a daunting
task at first. As I progressed and days passed I become more robust in using
Windows Movie Maker to make a PSA. Sifting through 100 s of pictures and
videos I slowly, but surely began to eliminate those that were not up to the mark.
Continuing to sort through the videos and photos, I began to put together a
storyboard. This storyboard would then be animated into one coherent, powerful
PSA. When I first started making my PSA I began with looking for videos that
would fit into my particular theme. I looked for videos that appealed to the pathos
of human emotion as well as the logos. I first searched for news videos and wanted

Showing the effects of hate speech was not a difficult task that took quite a while
in order to select the correct photos. Many effects were psychological and therefore
difficult to display on screen. At the same time I also had to look for photos that
showed silhouettes or one that were in a cartoon art style. Ultimately, I decided on
several photos that would display the effects of hate speech, and what would
happen if it were eliminated. With the combination of all the pictures I had settled
on, I could see a complete, cohesive PSA coming together. Compiling the videos,
photos, and other details such as music and transitions was the most difficult part
of the entire assignment. The way the slides and pictures are laid decide whether
or not the PSA is well designed or poorly designed. Selecting the correct music to
go along with the video was also troublesome. After listening to multiple songs,
they all began to combine together. I first eliminated songs with lyrics as most
would not play well with my topic. The song had to have an emotional tone that
went from sad and down to happy and upbeat. Many songs were like this, but most
did not fit the bill until I came along to the perfect. As the music flowed through my
headphones, I knew that this was it. Once I had the correct music all the pieces of
the puzzle began to come

Although changes had been made it still kept to Paris traditional appearance and
was installed within the former Orsay railway station. Between 1900 through to
1939 it was known as the Gare d Orsay and was seen as the head of the southwestern
French railroad network. However, after 1939, the station was to serve only the
suburbs, as its platforms had become too short for the modern, longer trains that
appeared with the progressive modernisation of the railroads.
In 1975, the Direction des MusГ©es de France had considered installing a new

School Vs. Year-Round School
Imagine that it is the end of May, almost June, and the whole school is ready for
summer vacation. The nice weather, the pool, and everything else good about
summer. But the school recently switched to a year round schedule. Summer vacation
isn t for another two months, and it is only about twenty days long. The students don
t have time after schoolto go to the pool or do fun summer things, because they will
be in school five days a week, like a normal school week. This is what many
schools around the country are doing. Students who go to a year round school often
go for 9 weeks, then, get 3 weeks off. Kids and teachers are trapped in school, when
there is nice weather outside, and fun things to do. This is all apart of year round...

Studies done so far don t have the longitude to merit serious discussion. They are
saying that schools don t take all the facts into consideration. Summer is when
many people travel and go see relatives, but with students in school all year, it takes
away that opportunity. Also, in lots of farm communities, the kids work on their
family s farm. Those people s farms might possibly be their only source of income,
but if the kids are at home, they can t help out. In the summers, especially, farms
need the kids to help out. Some school districts don t think of that. Not only are the
students getting family time taken away, but the teachers have families too. Teachers
have to stay longer, and often live in another town than students too, so that takes
even more time away. There are so many students and teachers who do not have time
to do the things they want to do. As you can see, year round schooling limits family
time, for students and teachers, and causes them to not want to come back to school,
and might miss school to make time for
The Transportation And Logistics Industry
The transportation and logistics industry is one of the key components of modern
life. It provides the framework through which every raw material and finished
consumer good is moved through the supply chain into the hands of consumers. This
industry is generally taken for granted by consumers. When consumers do think about
the industry it is thought of in terms of unchanging and stagnate transportation
modes. This vision of the industry is not an accurate reflection of the reality of
modern transportation industry. During the last several decades the technological

Innovations that improve the functioning of transportation modes are occurring
across all modes of the transportation industry. Truck transportation has been the
backbone of freight movements in the United States and across the globe for
decades. While utilizing trucks is an economical way to move freight for short hauls
of less than a 1,000 miles, there are high environmental and infrastructure costs for
utilizing this mode of transportation. According to Lowe, road transportation s use
of energy resources rose 103 per cent in the period since 1970 (2005). Additionally,
Lowe points out that road transportation s emission of green house gasses, increased
by 76% between 1971 and 1989 (Lowe, 2005, p. 112). Furthermore, road
transportation is the largest polluter in the industry. It utilizes over 80% of the total
energy used in the transport sector and contributes over 75% of its total CO2 output
(Lowe, 2005, p. 113). Finally, freight transportation by heavy vehicles causes
pavement damage at significantly higher rates than passenger traffic (SSTI, 2011).
Road transportation providers have adopted several innovations that have lowered the
environmental impact of this transportation mode. The adoption of clean diesel
technology by the industry has resulted in significant reductions in fuel use and
emissions by trucks. This innovation in diesel engine
The Importance Of A Well Protection Of Well During...
This section is an overview of the demands and tests associated with the integrity of
well during production from and injection to a reservoir.
The process begins after the well construction/well intervention organization has
handed the well over to the production organization and concludes with a handover
back to drilling and well organization for intervention, work over or abandonment.
Well integrity during this phase is used to keep hydrocarbons from the pay zone
inside the well and by protecting it from leaking off to contaminating groundwater for
environmental purposes.

These well barrier elements have to be tested and must meet the requirements and
guidelines that will enable them carry out their demands. Demands are an event or a
situation that needs functioning well barrier elements and they could be continuous
or instantaneous. A continuous demand is the constant high temperatureand pressure
that a well barrier must be able to withstand to avoid burst or collapse while and
instantaneous demand could be an emergency shutdown of the system from the
platform.
The importance of well integrity in the production phase cannot be undermined and it
could be easily categorized in three phases, namely pre production, in production
/operations and postproduction.
Pre Production
This phase as the name implies, is the phase just before we start producing from
the well and pumping up the hydrocarbons. This is also the phase when the
completion personal hands over the well to the production crew. Well integrity in
this phase is very critical because we have to check the well barriers and the well
barrier elements and make sure they can handle the different types of demand prior
to pumping the hydrocarbons out of the formation. Also important is the well
barrier schematics and well barrier diagrams for the well and the necessary
procedures to be taken should there be a well barrier failure . A well barrier

Owl Rabbit And Eeyoo Character Analysis
In the modern society, people should not concern themselves with the idealistic,

The Magna Carta limited the power of the king by restricting unlawful taxes and

Essay about Design of a Reconfigurable Hybrid Database

Design of a Reconfigurable Hybrid Database System.
Disc Resident database systems (DRDBS) are conventional databases systems in
which data is permanently stored on discs. In Main Memory Database Systems
(MMDBS) , the databases are stored onto the main memory. As the memory
locations can be accessed directly using addresses, they allow very fast access to the
data stored on them. They show better throughput in processing transactions and
respond much more quickly than DRDBS. Because of the fast data access, the
performance of MMDBS tends to rely on the computing power of the machine being

three execution engines. These are forwarded to the Scheduler , which allocates when
each of the operations are to start executing on their respective engines keeping

How Does Annabel Lee Rhyme Scheme
Poe uses rhyme scheme and internal rhyme to enhance the tone of his writing. In
Annabel Lee it says, For the moon never beams without bringing me dreams (Poe
1.34). This sentence is a perfect example of internal rhyme. Poe is rhyming beams
with dreams to emphasize the love the speaker has towards Annabel Lee. From this,
the tone can be interpreted by heartbroken since Annabel has passed away. Another
piece of evidence that shows rhyme scheme, is in the text, A Dream Within A Dream
, which states, I stand amid the roar/Of a surf tormented shore, (Poe 1.12 13). Edgar
Allan Poerhymes roar and shore at the end of these two lines to emphasize the tone of
the poem as torment. Also rhyming can relate with repetition because the readers
The Domestication of Canines
We are inseparable; they are more than tame animals. They have become a part of
humanity that have and will shape our species. Dogs have been an essential part
of the book of humanity well before the first settlements and human survival might
not have been possible without dogs. How did dogs go from a wiled animal, to the
loving spices that we share almost every moment of our lives with? We share
every thing with them; our lives, our homes, our money (for their food , medical
care and up keep) beds, food, compassion, and love. They are treated just as well as
our own children. Many people including myself share almost everything with our
dogs. But how does this story begin, where has it taken us throughout history, and
today, what were we able to accomplish? Prehistoric humans lived in a time where
there was little food, safety, or certainty, following groups of animals as a food
source, and seeking the safety of caves to avoid the dangers from the world at
night. We were in a period where death was more common than living. At the time,
our ancestors were living in incredibility small social groups. The population of
prehistoric humans at the time was only in the tens of thousands. There were other
species of large primates under the genus Homo (hominids), and the competition was
rough. We were at the time a poorly equipped species, lacking speed, strength, fur,
claws, teeth, and other smart biological features. The few things we had going for us

The Berlin Blockade Is The First Major International...
The Berlin Blockade is said to be the first major international crises of the Cold
War. The basis of this blockade was to cut of Western Allies railway, road, and canal
access to the eastern side of the city. The Soviets proposed an offer to the west, in
which they would drop the blockade, if newly introduced Deutschmark currency was
withdrawn from West Berlin. But seeing as though if they did agree, the German
society would only crumble even further, so the westerners rejected the offer. The
idea of the an airlift came to mind of the western allies, as they wanted aid Berlin
citizens and abolish the Soviet authority. This idea was inspired by the World War II
American airlift from India, over the Himalayas, to China The Hump , to resupply the
Chinese war effort. Planning and investigating were soon done by the three nations in
an attempt to figure out and carry out a large scale solution.
On November 30th, 1945, it was announced that there would be 23 mile wide air
corridors providing passage to Berlin. Since the use of unarmed aircraft would be the
transport method, the Soviets could not accuse that the cargo aircraft were a military
threat, like if they were tanks or trucks. Being faced with non lethal aircraft refusing
to turn around, the only way to keep the blockade impassable would be to shoot them
down. The Soviets were forcibly put in a position of either shooting down unarmed
humanitarian aircraft, which in turn would break their own agreements, or back down
Face Negotiation Theory By Stella Ting Toomey
Face negotiation theory was developed by Stella Ting Toomey, a professor of Speech
Communication at California State University, Fullerton, who earned her Ph.D. from
the University of Washington in 1981. She developed the theory after being
influenced by the work of Goffman, and Brown and Levinson.
Ting Toomey (1988) states an assumption of face negotiation theory is that people in
all cultures try to maintain and negotiate face in all communication situations.
Another assumption of the theory described by Ting Toomey (1988) is that face is
problematic in sensitive interpersonal situations, such as conflict. According to Oetzel
and Ting Toomey (2003), the theory is useful in explaining both differences and
similarities in face and facework during conflict situations. Many scholars have
researched specific areas regarding face negotiation theory. The areas mentioned
below will focus on the concept of face, conflict, and intercultural situations. The
concept of face is important in conflict situations because communicators should
protect their own interests, and avoid violating others interests during the
interaction. Face has many different definitions, written by many different scholars.
Ting Toomey (1988) defines face as an individual s claimed sense of positive
image in the context of social interaction (Ting Toomey, 1988) . Another definition
of face is a claimed sense of favorable social self worth that a person wants others to
have of her or him (Ting Toomey
40x Magnification Lab
Conclusion
The purpose of this lab was to introduce students on how to properly use a
compound binocular microscope to observe organisms. Additionally, learning how
to find the size of the field of view and organisms was part of the purpose of this lab.
There were two lab observations made, one finding the diameter of the field of view
for each magnification and observing three organisms underneath the microscope.
Upon entering the lab for the clear ruler observations, it was hypothesized that if the
ruler was able to be clearly seen and measurements taken on the 40x magnification
then it would be able to be seen and estimated for all magnifications. That was
proven incorrect. The higher magnifications made the field of view so small on the
ruler that an accurate measurement could not be taken. The ruler was measured
under 40x, 100x, and 400x magnification. First, the ruler was measured under 40x
magnification and had a diameter across the field of view of about 4.5 millimeters.
The fit number was converted to 4,500 micrometers. When the magnification
increased to 100x magnification, the field of view decreased to 1.8 millimeters in
diameter. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Analyzing Themes Of Mary Shelley s Frankenstein
Frankenstein is a famous gothic novel written by Mary Shelley at the beginning of
the XIX century.
The novel talks about the story of Victor Frankenstein, a man who decides to
discover the mysteries of the origin of death and life persuaded by his love for
science and natural philosophy.
The writer presents in his work a series of themes (nature, violence, authority and
power, supernatural and religion), including two interesting themes which affected
me particularly: the theme of morality and ethics and the theme of the desire to
overcome and defy the laws of nature.
Essential to understand both themes previously mentioned, is the historical and social
context in which the author lived in. Frankenstein, in fact, was written in a period of

The desire of Victor to discover the unknown is as strong as the desire of the

strong is the society impact upon us and how it influences our choices). Another
theme approached by the writer in the novel is the theme of morality, especially the
capacity of the monster to recognize the difference between right and wrong, bad and
good behavior. The monster morality is highlighted in the following lines:
The monster in this passage is reminding to his creator that his existence doesn t

KNOWS how to behave as human with no atrocity in his life, he UNDERSTANDS
he can survive feeding himself with acorns and berries. He CAN DISTINGUISH

Single Men In Pride And Prejudice Essay
It is not a coincidence that the very first sentence in Jane Austen s Pride and
Prejudice forecasts one of the most predominant themes in the novel and in
Elizabethan literature. Only a male can inherit his family s property and fortune, and
so it behooves a woman, especially one used to a high standard of living, to pursue
marriagewith a wealthy man. It is a truth universally acknowledged, that a single
man in possession of a good fortune must be in want of a wife (Austen 1). The
sentence provides an overview for the book as well, which concerns itself with the
pursuit of single men in possession of a good fortune . This motif of Elizabethan
marriages continues through the rest of the first passage when Mrs. Bennet
announces the arrival of Mr. Bingly at Netherfield. She enlightens her daughters
about Mr. Bingly saying, He is a single man of large fortunes four or five thousand a

who drains all of his pride by saying: You are mistaken, Mr. Darcy, if you suppose
that the mode of your declaration affected me in any other way, than as it spared me
the concern which I might have felt in refusing you, had you behaved in a more
gentlemanlike manner (Austen 186). By attacking his pride, Elizabeth critiques
Darcy on his conduct rather than his highborn standing. This leads Darcy into a
mixture of distress and self contemplation. He begins to reevaluate himself and starts
his progress towards a new improved model of his former self, which leads to him

low wage jobs to experience how a person with minimum wage of $6 $7/hour

to raise the minimum wagein order for low wage workers to live comfortable lives.
One of the many rhetorical techniques Ehrenreich uses is syntactic repetition as a
way of instilling emotions in a readers in order to make them feel sorry for the

California Prison System
The California prison system was created in response to the increased amount of
criminal activity that sparked during the Gold Rush years. Prior to the Gold Rush,
California had prided itself on being a land of health, beauty, and opportunity
(Bookspan, xviii). However, immigration and population growth surged, especially
amongst foreign convicts and aliens , resulting in increased crime. At first, it was
decided that punishment for small crimes would be a beating by whip while
punishment for serious crimes, like robbery or murder, would be hanging
(Kidport). After becoming a state in 1850, the California governor John McDougal
reacted to this method of punishment by beginning what is known as the California
PrisonSystem. The first prison within California was San Quentin, which began to
receive inmates in 1854, next was Folsom State Prison in 1880, then California
Correctional Institution in 1933, California Institution for Men in 1941, and
California Institute for Women in 1952 as well as multiple California state prisons
that have opened since then in cities such as San Diego, Sacramento, Chowchilla,
Avenal, Corcoran, Susanville, Vacaville, Crescent City, and many more (California
Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation). The early California prison systems
were very much influenced by the Auburn prison system, from the Auburn
Correctional Facility in Auburn, New York. This system imposed solitary
confinement to silence prisoners and promote meditations, but still
What Is The Stranger In The Nest Essay
What is that makes us who really we are ? There is no doubt that identity defines
who we are. All over the world, all scientist and people want to understand that things
affect our identity. There are two main reasons that affect us. These are our family
and friends (nurture) and our genetics (nature). However some people think that there
is another more complicated answer. People think about this situation because they
wonder why their children become strangers. David Cohen who is a psychologist
and also writer of Stranger in the Nest he claims genetics(nature) is the most effective
impact in our identity. I agree with Cohen about genetics have big influence on
identity and for making children strangers to their families because of the evidence in
the twin studies. In the Stranger in the Nest, David Cohen says that genetic factors
have the most important role on why children become strangers to their families. He
explains genetics factors importance and tries to confute parental effect. He shows a

by dysfunctional parenting or by stressful social conditions (Cohen 3). According to
Twins studies, when one identical twin is diagnosed with autism, we can find there
is about a 70 percent chance the other will be too. If we seriously research genetic
factor s effect on our identity, also we can find the same answer. It means many of
our habits come from our family genetics. At the end of the this research, it helps to
understand why our children become stranger to their family, answer of this question
is that genetics factors have a big responsibility on our
Benefits Of Small Town Living
Growing up in a very little town in Illinois was a lot different than growing up in
Houston, Texas. When I was in the fourth grade I found many things to have
changed about my surroundings, I currently lived in a place where, the people
thought and acted differently. I know now reading about it and understanding
more that some of those changes were for the good and some were not. Small
town living has its advantages such as, very close friendships, close approximately
to may things, and friendly people. Looking back, I also realized that there were a
lot of disadvantages such as lack of transportation, affects of a poor education, no
opportunities for growth, crime, no diversity, and low paying jobs and housing.
Now that I am older, and aware of the affects of living in a small town, I can see
how these many things affected my life and will continue affect it in the future. I
grew up, the majority of my live, in a town in central Illinois, Kincaid, or better
known as South Fork because of the co op with the schools around us in sports. This
town is approximately 20 miles southeast of Springfield, and is only seven miles west
from the nearest town, with many opportunities that my town did not offer (Citydata).
With a total population of 1,495, including the town of Tovey about a mile away, as
of July 1, 2015 Kincaid is ranked as number 587 of 1,367 as being a small town in
Illinois (Kincaid, IL). Kincaid is only about 0.62 square miles in land areas, and is
located in
The Rose Review Report
The English Curriculum (2014) values the position speaking, listening, reading and
writing have as independent lessons. However, all four sectors combined are
recognised as a positive developmental factor in the intellectual growth of students. It
is expressed within the English curriculum how significant spoken language is; in
relation to child development and also in terms of student s progression throughout
the wider curriculum. Researchers such as Owen and Burnett (2014) state that spoken
language reinforces other key expertise such as readingand writing. Therefore,
teachers must encourage continual development of student s capabilities and
confidence in relation to verbal language. This section of the assignment shall focus

51. Having considered a wide range of evidence, the review has concluded that the
case for systematic phonic work is overwhelming and much strengthened by a
systematic approach (Rose, 2006, p20). To further his proposal Rose (2006)
proclaimed that the teaching of systematic phonics should be enhanced and active by
the age of five; It can be evidence through practice that children as young as five can
define the terminology for a phoneme and a grapheme, due to the position phonics
has within the English curriculum. There is also a world wide debate on the various
ways educational practitioners can most effectively implement phonics in their
practice states Dombey (2010). Due to the impact of the Rose Review, it could be
suggested that the value of systematic phonics had increased, meaning that primary
teachers have to be confident in their ability to teach and support pupils in their
reading and spelling through the use of phonological
Beatrice s Inner Conflict In Divergent
The protagonist, Beatrice Prior, lives in a futuristic version of Chicago that was
separated into five factions Dauntless, Erudite, Abnegation, Amity, and Candor.
Beatrice grew up in Abnegation, where everyone is selfless and puts others before
themselves. However, when she turns 16 and the time comes to choose what faction
she thinks she belongs in, Beatrice decides to join Dauntless partly because they re
cool and adventurous; partly because she doesn t feel benevolent enough to be a
good Abnegation; and partly because a faction testresult showed that she was
Divergent, meaning she doesn t completely fit into any one faction. Nonetheless,
when Beatrice was on stage at the Choosing Ceremony, she had an internal argument
over which faction... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
But as many of us know very well, things don t always go as planned, and that is
what exactly happened the faction system didn t function properly and resulted as
a dystopian society. And as expected, the factions started fighting each other
because each of them had different values and viewpoints. The moral lesson for
Beatrice and her society is that people should be more accepting of others, whether
it s of their thoughts, opinions, personality, or appearance. If people were more
accepting of other people s ideas, the fighting between the factions could ve been
avoided. What is more, the story also showed the moral that not every person can fit
into a specific group of people. Everyone has their own personality and it s not right
to isolate someone, and label them as factionless, just because they re
Essay on Communicating Effectively with Parents and
Students
Communicating effectively with parents and students is important in order to be
successful at teaching. Studies have shown that parental involvement in a student s
education allows for greater success in the classroom (Duarte, G, Cerda Perez, E
Rosenberg, G 2007). Technology is beneficial in communicating with students and
parents. The use of technology allows for students and parents to have access to
current lesson plans as well as access to the teacher after normal school hours. This
opens up doorways for the student or parent to ask questions about assignments and
class discussions. The uses of classroom websites, e mails, text messaging and
student web sites are just a few examples of technology that is used to communicate...

E mail can also be used to remind students of upcoming tests or projects. Text
messaging can also be a convenient way to reach parents. Many parents work and
may find it difficult to be able to answer a phone call. Text messaging allows parents
to respond quickly to a question or concern. Parents are also more likely to ask a
teacher a question if they have multiple ways to reach her. Student web sites can offer
students access to class assignments and notes that were taken in class. Teachers can
also post questions to their students to encourage students to continue thinking about
the material being taught. Student web sites can also be used to post hyper links that
will lead the student to information pertaining to the class material. Partnering with
other schools and teachers is beneficial to learning new ways to reach students. Using
e mails and class websites can be helpful in communicating with other teachers. Text
messaging can also be helpful in setting up activities between the two schools. E pals
is a global website that connects teacher and students from around the world. The web
site helps students and teachers communicate with other that would normally be too
far away. This website is useful in teaching students about the world around them and
other cultures. Internet security and safety is important more so today than ever
before. With the use of new technology in the classroom it is important for
Rhetorical Devices In The Coquette
Meghan Michalski 19 October 2017
From a scene of constraint and confinement, ill suited to my years and inclination, I
have just launched into society. My heart beats high in expectation of its fancied
joys. My sanguine imagination paints, in alluring colors, the charms of youth and
freedom, regulated by virtue and innocence. Of these, I wish to partake. While I
own myself under obligations for the esteem which you are pleased to profess for
me, and in return, acknowledge, that neither your person nor manners are
disagreeable to me, I recoil at the thought of immediately forming a connection,
which must confine me to the duties of domestic life, and make me dependent for
happiness, perhaps too, for subsistence, upon a class of people, who will claim the
right of scrutinizing every part of my conduct; and by censuring those foibles, which
I am conscious of not having prudence to avoid, may render me completely miserable
(Foster, 29).
Through rhetorical devices, dramatic language, and tone, Foster manipulates the
readers perspectives and opinions of her characters and provides them with the
information to predict Eliza s inevitable demise before she knows it herself.
Eliza Wharton s yearning for freedom is a fundamental underlying theme to Foster s
novel, The Coquette . Eliza views freedom as the ability to partake in the pleasures
and joys of youth without the restrictions and obligations that come with a
commitment to marriage. Furthermore, freedom is the choice to
Causes And Treatment Of Liver Fibrosis
Liver fibrosis is the typical end stage, pathological process that follows chronic
hepatitis C(CHC)viral infection or other disorders of the liver.[1] Fibrosis is a
dynamic scarring process in which chronic inflammation stimulates production and
accumulation of collagen and extracellular matrix proteins as described in other
articles. [1, 2] Over time patients with CHC viral infection experience a remodelling
of the total collagen content. This progressive remodelling causes liverfibrosis, which
can lead to liver cirrhosis.[3 5]
Hepatic fibrosis and cirrhosis are potentially reversible with timely intervention. [1]
To achieve the best possible outcome, treatment must be initiated in the early stages
of liver fibrosis.[1] Another benefit of timely treatment of fibrosis and cirrhosis is the
prevention of hepato cellular carcinoma.[3, 6] Additionally, in patients with chronic
hepatitis C,anti viral treatment is indicated with severe fibrosis. [3, 6]Therefore,
clinicians must serially monitor the level and severity of fibrotic tissue, to ensure
timely treatment and to determine the patient s risk of liver related morbidity,
mortality and hepatic comorbidities, for example, portal hypertension or hepatic
carcinoma.[7 10]
Current methods used to monitor Hepatic Fibrosis and Cirrhosis available at
Fremantle Hospital.
The liver biopsy remains the gold standard to determine the necro inflammation
(grading) and fibrotic tissue (staging) components of liver fibrosis severity.[9,
Carpentry Was Very Good To Me For 12 Years
I enjoyed carpentry and it was very good to me for 12 years . This was a quote said
by the actor, Harrison Ford, as he was discussing how helpful the trade of carpentry
was for him. A carpenter is one who repairs and constructs frameworks and
structures. They install siding, kitchen cabinets, and they also drywall. The pieces
they build and repair are usually made from wood. Becoming a carpenter is a
perfect choice for someone who likes physical work, has excellent employment
opportunities, and a solid pay. A carpenter is always involved in physical work.
Carpentry requires the use of tools and machines, such as hammers, saws, and chisels.
Carpenters construct hospitals, houses, and other large projects. They are also
experts in scaffolding.
How the Earth Was Made
The three myths Chinese, African, and Norse have the same way of the earth being
made because they all have it that men made the earth.
This story has it that the heaven and earth were integrated into one body that
reminds you of an egg, that Pangu slept inside. He slept for about 18,000 years and
then woke up. He noticed that he was in a vast of dark; therefore, he made his
hands huge and cut into the darkness. After an explosion, heaven and earth started to
split. He was scared that the heaven and earth may go together again, so he held the
heaven with his hands and carefully walked on land. His body grew three meters
every day. therefore, the distance between heaven and earth became three meters
longer every day.
Another 18,000 years passed and now heaven became far away from the earth and the
earth was now very thick. At the same time, Pangu also grew to be a huge man.
During this time, heaven continued ascending and expanding while the earth sinking
and getting thicker until the distance between them was as far as 90,000 kilometers
which had reached the extreme. That was the situation of the universe in our eyes at
current time. Pangu gradually got weaker after he separated heaven and the earth.
After he died his body turned into all the things in the universe. His left eye became
the sun and his right eye, the moon.
The protruded parts in his body turned out to be high mountains and his blood
became rivers. His muscle became the soil field, and his hair and beard
Qualities Of An Outstanding Educator
Just because someone is a great nurse, does not mean they are a great nursing
educator. I believe the greatest qualities of an outstanding educator are passion,
patience, flexibility, and the willingness for personal and professional growth.
The passion that one has or do not have for what they are teaching shows thru and
directly impacts the effectiveness of their teaching. Maintaining a continued passion
for the nursing profession inspires students. Patience, so often is what makes or
breaks an educator. Consequently, I have seen many great nursesthat just did not
have the required patience to guide new nurses or students. This may be the 20th time
someone has taught this concept, but the first exposure to the student. When a

Wangari Maathai s Nobel Peace Prize Acceptance Speech...
Wangari Maathai expresses her gratitude to the world for her Nobel Peace Prize, and
also calls her audience to action. Her goal is to convince the world that the
environment has much more importance than most people seem to realize. In her
speech she begins by expressing her gratitude, and persuading her audience that she is
worth listening to. Second she discusses the importance of the environment and
explains how the Green Belt Movement has helped and changed the world. She then
clarifies the problems still occurring. After establishing the problems, she goes on to
make her call to action. Lastly, she ends by establishing pathos.
Maathai expresses her gratitude in the beginning of the speech. She thanks all the
people that made the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
She does this to ensure the listeners that taking care of the environment does much
more than make the world we live in look better. Taking care of the environment also
takes part in ensuring a successful democracy and many other important things in
society. The idea that Maathai is attempting to get across to everyone is that the Earth
is our friend and we should give back what we take. She helps us understand this by
explaining the awful chain reactions that occur when we don t replenish what we
have consumed from Earth.
Third, she makes her call to action. She asks everyone to take part in something to
help the environment. She addresses each group of people separately. Men and
women of all races, children, young adults, everyone, can take part in something to
help. In the course of history, there comes a time when humanity is called to shift to
a new level of consciousness, to reach a higher moral ground. A time when we have
to shed our fear and give hope to each other. That time is now. (4) Her sentence
structure of That time is now, really gives emphasis on what she wants. It is short
and to the point. It s also a very simple sentence. She didn t replace simple words
with fancier words. This shows that what she is asking from people isn t rocket
science. She is asking for something as simple as planting trees or recycling. Her call
to action is for everyone to contribute to helping take care of the environment in some
way.
The Hospital Currently Utilizing Its Beds
Shouldice Hospital
Author s Name:
Institution
How well is the hospital currently utilizing its beds?
The hospital utilizes its best to full capacity three days in a week, on the other hand,
the doctors operate at the hospital five days in a week, and this implies the equation
for the utilization of the beds will focus on two different perspectives.
Saturdays
Capacity Used = Sum of the daily capacity
60+90+90+90+90+60+60 = 540
Capacity Utilization for Saturday = 540/630 = 85.7%
Best operational level = capacity Maximum*7 days
90*7 = 630
Capacity used = Daily Capacity
60+90=90+90+60+30+30 = 450
Capacity utilization Rate = Capacity Used/Best Operating level
Present Utilization rate = 71% and 85.7%
Utilization = actual/design = 450 / 630 = 0.71 = 71%
Develop a similar room occupancy table to show the effects of adding operations on
Saturday. (Assume that30 operations would still be performed each day.) How would
this affect the utilization of the bed capacity? Isthere sufficient capacity for the
additional patients?
In the table below, surgery has been added on Saturday and the number of
operations performed per day is 30, this implies the number of beds added will not
be utilized, this is because the number of beds available on Saturday are still under
the operating policies.
Current Bed usage per week 150 patients

King Louis XIV, The King Of France
King Louis XIV was the king of France from 1638 to 1715, he reigned longer than
any other European monarch. King Louis XIV was one of the most powerful
absolute monarchs in the history of Europe. He was thought of as the quintessence
of what an absolute monarch should be. Throughout this paper, I will discuss the
many important aspects of King Louis s reign and some of the influential things
he did and their effects on society at the time. One way he achieved his absolute
power was through the divine right of kings. The Divine right of kings is defined
as the doctrine that the right of rule derives directly from God, not from the
consent of the people. King Louis XIV used the fact that people couldn t deny any
of his privileges because if they did it would be like they were denying God
himself to his advantage. Jean Domat, a French jurist, wrote in his publication on
Social Order and Absolute Monarchy , Since government is necessary for the
public good, and God Himself has established it, it is consequently also necessary
for those who are subject to government, to be submissive and obedient. For
otherwise they would resist God Himself, and government, which should be the
bond of peace and unity that brings about the public good, would become an
occasion for divisions and disturbances that would cause its downfall. Jean Domat
wrote mostly of royal absolutism; King Louis XIV regarded his work very highly.
This evidence proves that during this time, many believed that if

In one of his play, which earned him the Pulitzer Prize as well as many other awards A Streetcar Named Desire takes place in New Orleans during the mid 1940s. This incredible play explores numerous of important themes and conflict between the characters. The story takes us to the lives of three main characters, Blanche DuBois, Stanley Kowalski, and Stella Kowalski, who have different ways of living and managing with their environment in which they live in. The story start off with Blanche, who comes to visit her sister, Stella, but end up in an unexpected situations. From the time Blanche got to Elysium Fields, she and Stanley are constantly scolding each other because Stanley and Blanche wants Stella to be on their side and neither one of them will give her up. They will not let this through, if one of them is to win and other leaving defeated. However, Stanley and Blanche represent something else bigger, not just two dissension characters. They are strongly portrayed as polar opposites when they are first introduced in the play. The difference between the two characters is shown through their appearance, since Blanche is portrayed as a delicate moth while Stanley is portrayed as animalistic. Blanche represent the image of the old south because of the way she expressing things, worth, and lifestyle, while Stanley represent the new south, as being dominant, aggressive, and sexual. Moreover, Blanche
  • 3. Japanese Attack On Pearl Harbor One fateful morning on Sunday, December 7, 1941, Japanese attack planes first hit the U.S. naval base at Pearl Harbor in Honolulu, Hawaii at 7:53AM. Approximately more than 2,000 soldiers and sailors were killed, and 1,000 were injured. The Japanese destroyed 200 airplanes and 20 American naval vessels, including 8 colossal battleships in just two hours. This surprise attack caused President Franklin D. Roosevelt and Congress to declare war on Japan, and its allies Italy and Germany also declared war on the United States3 days later. Japan had been invading French Indochina to expand into their territories and to take over its import market, because they believed that that was what had to be done in order to solve its economic problems. This aggression towards China angered President Franklin D. Roosevelt, since the U.S had political ties with them, so he imposed a ban on trades with Japan which included its economy s essential supplies such as the export of oil, steel, and iron. The President s act resulted in Japan s barrage on Pearl Harbor. In an attempt to retaliate against the U.S. president s imposition, the Japanese ambushed its naval base by sending aircraft to destroy and kill hundreds of battleships and soldiers. The attack was unforeseen because nobody thought Japan would invade American territory, considering it would be inconvenient since Japan and Hawaii were 4,000 miles apart. This blitz attack shocked and enraged the citizen of Americans, but in retrospect
  • 4. Persuasive Speech About Violence Against Women What is so special about our humanity? As human, We can express ourselves however we want, We know the differences between right and wrong, and equal does not mean that we have to act exactly the same. But it does mean that i have the exact same rights as you, and should be treated with the same amount with the same amount of respect and dignity you would want to be given. It should not matter what you look like, where you from, your gender, or who you love. We are all different and that should be respected. Everyone should be treated equally, because violence against women is unacceptable, because the LGBT community has gone through so much crap but they always thrive, because undocumented immigrants are treated like human garbage for coming into a country to build a better life for themselves and their families. Women are 90 percent of rape victims in the united states, and 13 percent of rape victim survivors will attempt to commit suicide. Women ages 16 to 19 are four times more likely to be raped than the general population. Imagine that a 16 to 19 year old girl at school or at a party or somewhere. She is getting sexually assaulted by a man that probably has 100 pounds on her, and she is lying there helpless and now imagine that this sweet girl that was just assaulted is your child. She does not tell you because she thinks you won t believe her but instead attempts to kill herself because she is ashamed that she could not stop it, or she tells you everything, and they

The city is located in the southern part of California so it s no surprise that most people who live there are illegal immigrants. In some areas, it s full of homeless like in downtown where most homeless life is at. Los Angelesis also known where most movies and shows are filmed. Things like the walk of fame, Hollywood sign, and the Universal city is where most celebrities are more likely to appear. Although Los Angeles has it s ups and down it s still a pretty good place to live. First, I live in Macarthur Park which has a park and a lake across the street from my house. Some prices I ve seen have been about 100 1000 dollars for some suits or tuxedos. There is also a marketplace that sells meat and vegetables at cheap prices that are all fresh. Vegetables from different countries are found in the marketplace for people who want to recreate the food they have in their home country. In Downtown the more further down you go there is where all the good stuff is sold. Weapons.toys, imported goods, and electronics are sold there. In every street, there are about ten shops next to each other with every step that you take. It s very rare to not find something a person might need to not be at one of the shops. Beauty supplies that are expensive are found for a very cheap price like 20 dollars. Although shops are great there is one place that people usually never pass or go to due to the amount of homeless that live there. Skid Row is where a huge amount of homeless people live. Tents and sleep bags are everywhere in that street. The street is so filled with homeless people that some homeless sleep on the side of the road due to not having enough space in the street. People would go around skid row because people are scared entering with a possibility of them being rob. There are no businesses in skid row so there is no reason for going there except for just taking a

I would not be the musician I am today without having collaborated with some of the most inspiring people I have ever encountered, whether they are world class experienced artists or young musicians that are just starting out. My life would not be complete without combining a career of chamber musicand solo performances and over the past few years. I believe they both provide very different challenges and one cannot be a complete musician without maintaining a balance between the two. Solo concertos teach you about the most challenging technical issues and sound production you will encounter. But the way chamber music develops your listening... We quickly realized how much we had in common; both of us had come from Spanish speaking countries to New York City to study and create a path for ourselves. Discussing musical ideas and composers, we both discovered our common love for Bernstein s Serenade for violin and orchestra. After much thinking and planning, four orchestras came on board (Alabama Symphony, San Antonio Chamber Orchestra, Metropolis Ensemble and Balearic Islands Symphony Orchestra) to co commission a double concerto to honor Bernstein s Centennial in 2018. Chamber music brought us together and we were happy to put our minds to work and come up with an interesting project. We are now in the planning stages for all the other performances outside the co commissioners and excited to bring it to a variety of places and people in the next few years. It will hopefully aid expanding the repertoire and the connections through different music genres and audiences, just like Bernstein did decades

Other Organizational Models Frotn the perspective of both research about organizations and consultation to organizational clients, we have experienced some frustration about rnost if not all current organizational tnodcls that do little more than describe or depict. A case in point is the 7S model developed by Pascale and Athos (1981) and futthcr honed by Peters and Watertnan (1982). Parenthetically, lot us quickly add that by cotnparing our tnodel with others, particularly those the teader may be familiaj with, if not fond of. we wish to clarify the nature of our thinking and. ideally, its distinctive contribution, not cast our comments in a competitive manner. • 10. Descartes s Argument On The Existence Of God In A Discourse on the Method, Descartes attempted to prove the existence of God in a priori manner. He did not trust his own senses when trying to prove the existence of God and therefore he relied on the ontological argument. By making the same assumption made by Anselm, which was that an ontological argument assumes that existenceis a predicate of God, Descartes is able to conclude that God exists is true by definition because the subject God , who already contains all perfections, already contains the predicate exists, which is a perfection. Although this may be perceived as a strong claim to believers, many such as Gaunilo would have disagreed. Descartes postulates his argument in the fourth part of his Discourse in order to try and prove the existence of God. One must discuss why one feels Descartes attempted to do so and exactly how convincing his claim is. However, before one can understand his claim, it is important to grasp an idea of the background that Descartes was writing from when he wrote the Discourse and the meaning of proof. Descartes was a physico mathematician who dedicated a lot of his time to science. He realised that all truths tend to link to one another and therefore combining a fundamental truth with logic, would for him, lead to science. As a devoted Catholic, Descartes claimed that one of the main purposes of the Mediations was to defend Christian faith. In terms of proof, proof is evidence or an argument that establishes or helps to
  • 11. Antidepressant Essay Antidepressants are overprescribed Mitrea (2007) defines antidepressants as an agent or a drug that is most commonly used to prevent or treat depression. However, in today s society it could be said that antidepressants are being over prescribed and are being used to treat a vast range of other conditions, as well as clinical depression. When the first antidepressant was developed, manufacturers were reluctant to put it on the market due to the extremely low number of people suffering from depression. Now, antidepressant drugs have a very dominant place in the drug market, with studies showing that they are now one of the most widely prescribed categories of drugs (Mark 2010). There could be a number of reasons for this increase in... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Macdonald et al. (2009) suggest that the current levels of antidepressant prescribing needs to be assessed. In this study, which gave an insight into General Practitioners (GPs) perspectives on the rise of antidepressant prescriptions, it was evident that many GPs believed that unhappiness, exacerbated by social deprivation and the breakdown of traditional social structures, was being medicalised inappropriately (Macdonald et al. 2009). However, participation in this study was voluntary so it is very likely that GPs who were interested in mental health and comfortable with their own prescribing practice would be more likely to take part, thus raising the question; are antidepressants really overprescribed? Despite the increasing number of studies on the over prescription of antidepressants some support this rise in antidepressant use, arguing that it is better to diagnose depression too often and too little (Barber 2008). Research has also been conducted not on over prescription, but in fact under prescription of antidepressants. These researchers are challenging the wide spread assumption that doctors are handing out antidepressants too often, and suggest that they are in fact being underused instead of overused. In contrast to the study by Macdonald et al. (2009), Cameron et al. (2009) challenged the hypothesis that
  • 12. Whey Protein Research Paper In the world of protein you will find that there are 4 primary types available with each having its own unique set of benefits and problems. Below, I am going to discuss the different types and how they should and shouldn t be used. Whey Protein Whey protein is by and large the most popular and arguably the best type of protein and/or supplement on the market today. Often called the gold standard of protein, whey is a total protein meaning it contains all of the necessary amino acids due to its Branched chain amino acids structure (BCAA s). BCAA s are naturally occurring molecules (leucine, isoleucine, and valine) that the body uses to build proteins. The term branched chain refers to the molecular structure of these particular amino ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Studies have demonstrated that casein protein can sustain the body with a regular supply of amino acids for at least seven hours, making casein the most anabolic protein, even more than whey. The rationale behind this is really because casein forms a gel in acidic environments like the stomach, and so releases a steady supply of amino acids into the bloodstream, permitting your body to remain anabolic. Since casein is kind of a slow digesting protein, consuming 30 50 grams before bed will stop catabolism while you re asleep. You may also consume casein protein across the day, just never after a workout. Post workout protein should be soaked up fast into the bloodstream, making casein a particularly bad choice. Casein protein can be taken pre workout as well, but this would not be the best use. A better pre workout shake would be to mix together a blend of casein and whey protein, thus permitting you to drink it inside thirty minutes of your workout. Milk contains over 80% casein protein, so mixing whey protein with milk will not only make your shake taste better but it will give you a make shift time release formula, effective straight away and sustaining for hours to come. Also, mixing your casein with milk before bed will ensure you stay anti catabolic across the

They both have the same language but are spoken in two different accents. You can always tell the difference between the two. New York City is in the northern part of the United States and is considered the city that never sleeps. It is also known as The Big Apple . People are walking the streets, eating at restaurants and going to bars at all hours of the night. Tourist come to see the attractions and to go shopping. There are many ways of transportation: train, bus, cab, car, or walking. Public transportation is twenty four hours a day and seven days a week and is their main source of getting around town. Housing is mostly apartments or condos that are for rent. Most people do not own their own homes or own a vehicle, because they cannot afford it. The cost of living in New York Cityis more expensive than most popular cities. The rent for a one bedroom apartment is around 3,000 an month. Childcare is close to 2,000 an month. In order to maintain a comfortable lifestyle most New Yorkers make close to 7,000 dollars a month. The population is 8,537,673 as of 2016 and as many as 800 languages spoken there. People often keep to themselves and really have no time to get to know each other, because it is a fast pace environment. It has the largest foreign born population in the world and 61 million tourists go there for vacation. The
  • 14. Broad Construction Of The Constitution Essay History is a major part of a country and its citizen s heritage. However, America s heritage is a short yet confusing one with different events and opinions argued as its true beginning as a sovereign nation. Although historians argue that the Spanish settlement of St. Augustine in Florida marks the start of American History, the written Constitution and development of a government more accurately reflects the beginning because this shows the beginning of an organized, connected and strong nation. According to Albert P. Blaustein, It can easily be argued that America s most important export has been the Constitution of the United States. (Blaustein). The American Constitution is a building block to democracy and structure, studied by many ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Milanich, In 1565 Spain established the earliest permanent European settlement in North America at San AugustГn (present day St. Augustine) on the Atlantic coast of the Florida peninsula. When the Spaniards anchored in Florida, they did not mean to colonize or begin a new nation separated from Europe, or even their native Spain. Instead, they chose to claim the area of land that they had settled on, for Spain. The Spanish did not consider themselves Americans but as Spaniards, claiming new land and protecting it for their country. To be a Spaniard, or African, living in San AgustГ n during the 1500s meant isolation from the outside world, inadequate supplies, constant threat of attack from Indians or the French (which occurred in 1568), and a lack of female companionship. (Milanich). Life at San Agustin was not meant to be a chance at organizing a new country, but honoring their native one, and refusing to discover the natural beauty and people of
  • 15. The Challenges Of King Jamestown Jamestown faced many challenges along the way and even from the start. Spain had taken control of the seas and the new world. England knew they needed a chunk of this new world. To accomplish this objective, King James I sent Bartholomew Gosnold to establish the Virginia company and to colonize new land in North America. When the 3 ships arrived off the coast of Virginia, a terrible storm made the sailors lost in the Chesapeake bay. This lead them to find the a peninsula on the James river where they decided to build their settlement Jamestown. When the colonists arrived they assumed the Natives would be friendly. They wouldn t carry their muskets around and weren t prepared so they ended up getting attacked and killed by the Natives. At
  • 16. Walt Disney Essay The Walt Disney Company has come a long way since Steamboat Willie where, the iconic face representing the brand, Mickey Mouse appeared in 1928 (Telotte, 2008). Walt Disney theme parks and the iconic mouse were accessible only in America for 28 years; more specifically, in California and Florida (Ferrell, O., Hirt, Ferrell, L., 2009). Mickey Mouse, who is arguably known by more people around the world than any other American (Eisner, 1995, n.p.) brought fans and tourists from all over the world to visit the happiest place on earth (Ferrell, O., Hirt, Ferrell, L., 2009, p. 112). Naturally, the clever minds behind the success of the of the Walt Disneycompany theme parks recognized the draw from a global perspective, which led to the assumption its theme parks would be successful internationally.... Planning in a global economy requires businesspeople to understand the economic, legal, political, and sociocultural realities of the country in which they will operate (Ferrell, O., Hirt, Ferrell, L., 2009, p. 106). There is an inherent need to focus and develop an international strategy prior to a leap for leaping sake. Simply assuming a business will do well elsewhere because of the level of success in its home court, is not enough for true globalization efforts. The company learned it could not impose the American way of operations and facilities on another culture (Ferrell, O., Hirt, Ferrell, L., 2009). Despite, those loyal fans that traveled to America to visit the parks, an understanding of the culture is imperative for success, as it illustrates a respect for their way of living. There is no brand that can cross barriers without modifications to fit the culture of which it will exist, not even the famous Mickey
  • 17. PSA Essay Creating a PSA (Public Service Announcement) may have seemed like a daunting task at first. As I progressed and days passed I become more robust in using Windows Movie Maker to make a PSA. Sifting through 100 s of pictures and videos I slowly, but surely began to eliminate those that were not up to the mark. Continuing to sort through the videos and photos, I began to put together a storyboard. This storyboard would then be animated into one coherent, powerful PSA. When I first started making my PSA I began with looking for videos that would fit into my particular theme. I looked for videos that appealed to the pathos of human emotion as well as the logos. I first searched for news videos and wanted to make a compilation of videos, but I... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Showing the effects of hate speech was not a difficult task that took quite a while in order to select the correct photos. Many effects were psychological and therefore difficult to display on screen. At the same time I also had to look for photos that showed silhouettes or one that were in a cartoon art style. Ultimately, I decided on several photos that would display the effects of hate speech, and what would happen if it were eliminated. With the combination of all the pictures I had settled on, I could see a complete, cohesive PSA coming together. Compiling the videos, photos, and other details such as music and transitions was the most difficult part of the entire assignment. The way the slides and pictures are laid decide whether or not the PSA is well designed or poorly designed. Selecting the correct music to go along with the video was also troublesome. After listening to multiple songs, they all began to combine together. I first eliminated songs with lyrics as most would not play well with my topic. The song had to have an emotional tone that went from sad and down to happy and upbeat. Many songs were like this, but most did not fit the bill until I came along to the perfect. As the music flowed through my headphones, I knew that this was it. Once I had the correct music all the pieces of the puzzle began to come

  • 33. Face Negotiation Theory By Stella Ting Toomey Face negotiation theory was developed by Stella Ting Toomey, a professor of Speech Communication at California State University, Fullerton, who earned her Ph.D. from the University of Washington in 1981. She developed the theory after being influenced by the work of Goffman, and Brown and Levinson. Ting Toomey (1988) states an assumption of face negotiation theory is that people in all cultures try to maintain and negotiate face in all communication situations. Another assumption of the theory described by Ting Toomey (1988) is that face is problematic in sensitive interpersonal situations, such as conflict. According to Oetzel and Ting Toomey (2003), the theory is useful in explaining both differences and similarities in face and facework during conflict situations. Many scholars have researched specific areas regarding face negotiation theory. The areas mentioned below will focus on the concept of face, conflict, and intercultural situations. The concept of face is important in conflict situations because communicators should protect their own interests, and avoid violating others interests during the interaction. Face has many different definitions, written by many different scholars. Ting Toomey (1988) defines face as an individual s claimed sense of positive image in the context of social interaction (Ting Toomey, 1988) . Another definition of face is a claimed sense of favorable social self worth that a person wants others to have of her or him (Ting Toomey

Additionally, learning how to find the size of the field of view and organisms was part of the purpose of this lab. There were two lab observations made, one finding the diameter of the field of view for each magnification and observing three organisms underneath the microscope. Upon entering the lab for the clear ruler observations, it was hypothesized that if the ruler was able to be clearly seen and measurements taken on the 40x magnification then it would be able to be seen and estimated for all magnifications. That was proven incorrect. The higher magnifications made the field of view so small on the ruler that an accurate measurement could not be taken. The ruler was measured under 40x, 100x, and 400x magnification. First, the ruler was measured under 40x magnification and had a diameter across the field of view of about 4.5 millimeters. Nickel And Dimed On By Barbara Ehrenreich The article Nickel and Dimed On (Not) Getting By In America written by Barbara Ehrenreich, who has a PHD in biology, informs the reader about the struggle a low wage worker in America has to go through. Ehrenreich goes undercover and takes low wage jobs to experience how a person with minimum wage of $6 $7/hour survives. During her experiment Ehrenreich only uses the money she earns from her job to pay rent, buy groceries,do laundry, pay for phone, and car. Throughout the article Ehrenreich s purpose is to make high class feel grateful for what they have but at the same time she encourages them to rally support to change conditions for low wageworkers. Ehrenreich uses rhetorical techniques of syntactic repetition, pathos, ethos, and evidence to persuade middle and high class Americans to realize the need to raise the minimum wagein order for low wage workers to live comfortable lives. One of the many rhetorical techniques Ehrenreich uses is syntactic repetition as a way of instilling emotions in a readers in order to make them feel sorry for the conditions low wage workers endure and then help in some capacity. In very first sentence of the article Ehrenreich lists; At the beginning of June 1998 I leave behind everything that normally soothes the ego and sustain the body home, career, companion, reputation, ATM card for a plunge into the low wage workforce (Ehrenreich 243). In this quote Ehrenreich just lists facts of what she leaves behind but it makes a reader
  • 40. California Prison System The California prison system was created in response to the increased amount of criminal activity that sparked during the Gold Rush years. Prior to the Gold Rush, California had prided itself on being a land of health, beauty, and opportunity (Bookspan, xviii). However, immigration and population growth surged, especially amongst foreign convicts and aliens , resulting in increased crime. At first, it was decided that punishment for small crimes would be a beating by whip while punishment for serious crimes, like robbery or murder, would be hanging (Kidport). After becoming a state in 1850, the California governor John McDougal reacted to this method of punishment by beginning what is known as the California PrisonSystem. The first prison within California was San Quentin, which began to receive inmates in 1854, next was Folsom State Prison in 1880, then California Correctional Institution in 1933, California Institution for Men in 1941, and California Institute for Women in 1952 as well as multiple California state prisons that have opened since then in cities such as San Diego, Sacramento, Chowchilla, Avenal, Corcoran, Susanville, Vacaville, Crescent City, and many more (California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation). The early California prison systems were very much influenced by the Auburn prison system, from the Auburn Correctional Facility in Auburn, New York. This system imposed solitary confinement to silence prisoners and promote meditations, but still

All over the world, all scientist and people want to understand that things affect our identity. There are two main reasons that affect us. These are our family and friends (nurture) and our genetics (nature). However some people think that there is another more complicated answer. People think about this situation because they wonder why their children become strangers. David Cohen who is a psychologist and also writer of Stranger in the Nest he claims genetics(nature) is the most effective impact in our identity. I agree with Cohen about genetics have big influence on identity and for making children strangers to their families because of the evidence in the twin studies. In the Stranger in the Nest, David Cohen says that genetic factors have the most important role on why children become strangers to their families. He explains genetics factors importance and tries to confute parental effect. He shows a study about why genetics have most important affect. When I was in the fourth grade I found many things to have changed about my surroundings, I currently lived in a place where, the people thought and acted differently. I know now reading about it and understanding more that some of those changes were for the good and some were not. Small town living has its advantages such as, very close friendships, close approximately to may things, and friendly people. Looking back, I also realized that there were a lot of disadvantages such as lack of transportation, affects of a poor education, no opportunities for growth, crime, no diversity, and low paying jobs and housing. Now that I am older, and aware of the affects of living in a small town, I can see how these many things affected my life and will continue affect it in the future. However, when she turns 16 and the time comes to choose what faction she thinks she belongs in, Beatrice decides to join Dauntless partly because they re cool and adventurous; partly because she doesn t feel benevolent enough to be a good Abnegation; and partly because a faction testresult showed that she was Divergent, meaning she doesn t completely fit into any one faction. My heart beats high in expectation of its fancied joys. My sanguine imagination paints, in alluring colors, the charms of youth and freedom, regulated by virtue and innocence. Of these, I wish to partake. While I own myself under obligations for the esteem which you are pleased to profess for me, and in return, acknowledge, that neither your person nor manners are disagreeable to me, I recoil at the thought of immediately forming a connection, which must confine me to the duties of domestic life, and make me dependent for happiness, perhaps too, for subsistence, upon a class of people, who will claim the right of scrutinizing every part of my conduct; and by censuring those foibles, which I am conscious of not having prudence to avoid, may render me completely miserable (Foster, 29). Through rhetorical devices, dramatic language, and tone, Foster manipulates the readers perspectives and opinions of her characters and provides them with the information to predict Eliza s inevitable demise before she knows it herself. Eliza Wharton s yearning for freedom is a fundamental underlying theme to Foster s novel, The Coquette . Eliza views freedom as the ability to partake in the pleasures and joys of youth without the restrictions and obligations that come with a commitment to marriage. Furthermore, freedom is the choice to

Causes And Treatment Of Liver Fibrosis Liver fibrosis is the typical end stage, pathological process that follows chronic hepatitis C(CHC)viral infection or other disorders of the liver.[1] Fibrosis is a dynamic scarring process in which chronic inflammation stimulates production and accumulation of collagen and extracellular matrix proteins as described in other articles. [1, 2] Over time patients with CHC viral infection experience a remodelling of the total collagen content. This progressive remodelling causes liverfibrosis, which can lead to liver cirrhosis.[3 5] Hepatic fibrosis and cirrhosis are potentially reversible with timely intervention. [1] To achieve the best possible outcome, treatment must be initiated in the early stages of liver fibrosis.[1] Another benefit of timely treatment of fibrosis and cirrhosis is the prevention of hepato cellular carcinoma.[3, 6] Additionally, in patients with chronic hepatitis C,anti viral treatment is indicated with severe fibrosis. [3, 6]Therefore, clinicians must serially monitor the level and severity of fibrotic tissue, to ensure timely treatment and to determine the patient s risk of liver related morbidity, mortality and hepatic comorbidities, for example, portal hypertension or hepatic carcinoma.[7 10] Current methods used to monitor Hepatic Fibrosis and Cirrhosis available at Fremantle Hospital. The liver biopsy remains the gold standard to determine the necro inflammation (grading) and fibrotic tissue (staging) components of liver fibrosis severity.[9,

This story has it that the heaven and earth were integrated into one body that reminds you of an egg, that Pangu slept inside. He slept for about 18,000 years and then woke up. He noticed that he was in a vast of dark; therefore, he made his hands huge and cut into the darkness. After an explosion, heaven and earth started to split. He was scared that the heaven and earth may go together again, so he held the heaven with his hands and carefully walked on land. His body grew three meters every day. therefore, the distance between heaven and earth became three meters longer every day. Another 18,000 years passed and now heaven became far away from the earth and the earth was now very thick. At the same time, Pangu also grew to be a huge man. During this time, heaven continued ascending and expanding while the earth sinking and getting thicker until the distance between them was as far as 90,000 kilometers which had reached the extreme. That was the situation of the universe in our eyes at current time. Pangu gradually got weaker after he separated heaven and the earth. After he died his body turned into all the things in the universe. His left eye became the sun and his right eye, the moon. The protruded parts in his body turned out to be high mountains and his blood became rivers. His muscle became the soil field, and his hair and beard

She helps us understand this by explaining the awful chain reactions that occur when we don t replenish what we have consumed from Earth. Third, she makes her call to action. She asks everyone to take part in something to help the environment. She addresses each group of people separately. Men and women of all races, children, young adults, everyone, can take part in something to help. A time when we have to shed our fear and give hope to each other. That time is now. (4) Her sentence structure of That time is now, really gives emphasis on what she wants. It is short and to the point. It s also a very simple sentence. She didn t replace simple words with fancier words. This shows that what she is asking from people isn t rocket science. • 53. King Louis XIV, The King Of France King Louis XIV was the king of France from 1638 to 1715, he reigned longer than any other European monarch. King Louis XIV was one of the most powerful absolute monarchs in the history of Europe. He was thought of as the quintessence of what an absolute monarch should be. Throughout this paper, I will discuss the many important aspects of King Louis s reign and some of the influential things he did and their effects on society at the time. One way he achieved his absolute power was through the divine right of kings. The Divine right of kings is defined as the doctrine that the right of rule derives directly from God, not from the consent of the people. King Louis XIV used the fact that people couldn t deny any of his privileges because if they did it would be like they were denying God himself to his advantage. Jean Domat, a French jurist, wrote in his publication on Social Order and Absolute Monarchy , Since government is necessary for the public good, and God Himself has established it, it is consequently also necessary for those who are subject to government, to be submissive and obedient. For otherwise they would resist God Himself, and government, which should be the bond of peace and unity that brings about the public good, would become an occasion for divisions and disturbances that would cause its downfall. Jean Domat wrote mostly of royal absolutism; King Louis XIV regarded his work very highly. This evidence proves that during this time, many believed that if
