1. Hatchet Essay
Crafting an essay on the topic of "Hatchet" can be both challenging and rewarding. On the one
hand, the novel, authored by Gary Paulsen, is a rich source of material that allows for in-depth
analysis and exploration of various literary elements. On the other hand, this abundance of
material can pose a challenge in terms of selecting the most relevant themes, characters, and
events to focus on within the confines of an essay.
To begin with, one must delve into the intricacies of the narrative and dissect the protagonist's
journey, Brian Robeson, as he grapples with survival in the wilderness following a plane crash.
Analyzing the character development, plot twists, and the psychological impact of Brian's
experiences requires a keen understanding of the author's intentions and the broader literary
context.
Moreover, addressing the thematic elements such as resilience, self-discovery, and the harsh
realities of nature demands a careful examination of the text's nuances. It's essential to articulate
how these themes are woven into the fabric of the story and how they contribute to the overall
message Paulsen seeks to convey.
Crafting a coherent and compelling essay also involves the synthesis of ideas and arguments,
backed by textual evidence. The challenge lies in selecting the most pertinent quotes and
passages that not only support the essay's thesis but also provide a deeper insight into the
characters and their motivations.
Additionally, ensuring that the essay maintains a logical flow and stays focused on the chosen
aspects of the novel is a meticulous process. It requires constant revisiting and refining of the
content to strike the right balance between depth and conciseness.
In conclusion, while writing an essay on the topic of "Hatchet" offers the opportunity to explore
a captivating narrative and delve into meaningful themes, it also demands a careful navigation
through the abundance of material. Crafting a well-structured and insightful essay requires a
thorough understanding of the novel and a skillful approach to weaving together analysis and
textual evidence. It's a task that calls for patience, critical thinking, and a genuine appreciation
for the complexities of literary exploration.

2. The Case Of Coca-Cola
In order to build a strong brand, each business has to figure out how the customers
think and feel about its products. Brand resonance, as an approach focusing on the
various stages of consumer brand relationship, is a useful tool to achieve that
target. In a specific case of Coca Cola, the company enjoys its high brand
awareness among its competitors in carbonated beverage industry. In 2015, the
soft drink market was dominated by the Coca Cola Company, which accounted for
48.6% of the market share (Statista 2016). The customers also identified the brand
as American values and beliefs thanks to its strong historical inheritance since
1886. The company itself also has spread the American traditional lifestyle across
the globe by giving the message of consumerism, being carefree and family values.
In terms of brand performance, the original and the most popular product of Coca
Cola is Coke, which can be seen as a reference to Cola flavored products. The

In other words, a common theme in Coca Cola s advertisements is related to bliss,
enjoyment and happiness. Strong emotional connection clearly plays a vital role in
Coca Cola strategy to attract more customers due to the fact that in many cases, the
customers make their buying decisions based on our past experiences, biological
traits and temperament (Adweek 2015). From consumers perspectives, they generally
received the right message that the advertisers wanted to transfer, as customers
perceive the brand as the connection with happy moments with family and friends to
celebrate a particular holiday, such as Christmas with the famous Coca Cola Polar

3. Battle Of Lone Pine Essay
The Battle of Lone Pine was an attack diverting the Turkish army allowing the
ANZAC s to reach high ground at Chanuk Bair and Hill 971 in 1915. The Battle met
the criteria of a just war using the principles of no means malum in se, proportionality
/military necessity and distinction. By adapting the attack to these just war criteria,
the ANZAC s were successful against the Turkish army and gained them the high
ground.
The first criteria, no means malum in se which is to not use weapons or methods
of warfare which are considered evil was adapted into the battle as no weapons
which are considered evil were used. The Battle of Lone Pine was trench warfare
using the generic weapons of grenades, bayonets and rifles. The trenches were too
narrow and cramped for use of any machine guns or heavy artillery. Chemical
weapons including mustard gas were also too risky to use in the confined space. ...

4. The Lowland By Jhumpa Lahiri
ISU ESSAYDamon Liu The Lowland written by Jhumpa Lahiri, deals with character
s lives, that are intertwined over the distance between the United States and India.
The book follows Subhash, the main protagonist of the story, as he adapts to the
constant changes that come with settling far from his birthplace. The novel not only
connects the colourful cast of characters, but the reader as well. Lahiri achieves this
by creating a set of diverse characters with varying personalities, presenting concepts,
themes and motifs, and establishing a strong sense of atmosphere. In doing so, The
Lowland is a good book for high school students to study Within this novel, the reader
is introduced a wide spectrum of characters, each with various personalities and
emotions. The writing style itself jumps from multiple character s perspectives,
expanding on what a typical third person narrative could achieve. This allows for
more in depth thoughts of all the characters, while still retaining the ability to move
between multiple characters that the third person style of narrative grants. Each
individual in the story is distinctive with one another. Take Subhash, a quiet and
cautious character, or Udayan, whose personality is that of confidence and tenacity.
Or Gauri, who craves independence, even if the actions taken for said independance
are rash and imprudent. All of the personalities found within this novel, however
different they may be, are intertwined and affect each other. For

The freedom of speech protected under the Frist Constitution in addition to other
beloved values has often struggled in the world with its concept of what s exactly
determined as free speech and what s not. In other words what s free speech
meaning that a person can state his or her personal opinion as opposed to Hate
speech which is meant to offend threatens and insults groups, based on race, color,
religion, national origin, sexual orientation, disability, or other traits. It seems that
in some circumstances the law has to decide to protect some and not others. Take
the case Miller vs Davis (2015) as an example of the law deciding which person to
protect. A woman named Miller Davis a country clerk of Rowan County, Kentucky
refused to issuance marriage license to same sex couples. She claims to as, doing
so would go against her religion and would continue to not give out licenses as she
was protected under the Frist Constitution. Davis said in a Kelly File Interview,
Same sex unions destroy the sanctity of marriage . To some this may have been seen
as someone just practicing their right but denying someone their right to marriage
based on sexual orientation is a hate crime. That was the difference that made the
couple Carmen and Shannon Wampler Collins and three other anonymous couples
file a lawsuit against Davis. The lawsuit claimed that Davis was breaking the law by
not giving all couples including same sex couples a license for marriage. Admittedly

6. Analysis Of The Color Purple
The Past Helps Shape a Better Future According to the Ark of Hope for Children,
1,850 children die a year by some form of child abuse. Assault must be noticed,
especially because it affects so many people worldwide. The Color Purple by Alice
Walker focuses extensively on this idea and the ramifications of rape. In the novel,
the main protagonist Celie is compelled to live with a man named Mr. _____, whose
last name is unidentified in the book, who constantly makes her work in the fields
and clean the house along with taking care of his three rude children. As she reaches
her adulthood, Celie undergoes certain changes in life that ultimately guide her in the
direction of finding Godagain and rediscovering his powerful influence on everyone
s lives. Critics banned The Color Purpledue to its themes of incest, birth of children
outside of marriage, rape, sexual pleasure, and lesbian activity. Despite the sexual and
violent content in The Color Purple, the novel should be studied in high school
curriculum due to the literary elements that contribute to a reader s understanding of
real world issues.
The Color Purple develops themes of religious transformation and equality throughout
the story that are necessary for teenagers to understand due to their meaningful
lessons on human nature. Throughout the story, Celie reveals her depiction of God
as simply an ordinary white man who takes advantage of black citizens. Shug
redirects Celie s thinking by telling her that God is only
7. The Nun s Priest And The Millers Tale Essay
So, it is time for us all to meet again. Although we have not heard stories from all,
many of you who spoke led a commendable effort. Many of you managed to tell
good stories, but there s a distinction between good and exceptional. A great story

storytelling is needed to keep us engaged throughout the tale. Lastly, great stories

8. What Is The Role Of The Radio In The 1920 s
In 1894, Guglielmo Marconi built the first commercially successful radio, capable
of military and marine communication based off of airborne Hertzian waves. This
invention pushed communication for the world to new levels, and in the sprawling
United States, the radio brought new ways to make money in a growing consumer
market for the United States, as well as to bring the nation together more with the
radio s near instant ability for one person to reach millions directly. Although the
radio was invented in 1894, it would take a few decades for the invention to become
widespread. One of the first major groups to see the potential of the radio was the US
Department of Agricultural. Starting in 1900, the department financed early research

10. Pixar Case Study Essay
In 1975, Ed Catmull put together a team of people who formed the basis of what
Pixar has become today. The group was hired in 1979 by Hollywood director George
W. Lucas and developed as a graphics division for LucasFilms (Shamsie, 2001). This
continued until 1985, when Catmull finally turned to Steve Jobs with the view to
making full length feature films using computer animation. After more than a year of
negotiations, Steve Jobs then purchased the graphics division and renamed it Pixar
Animation Studios (Shamsie, 2001). A three year filmcontract with Disney was
negotiated in 1991 which resulted in the movie Toy Storybeing released in 1995
(Shamsie, 2001). Toy Story became the top grossing movie of the year and won an

Despite these actions, there is still concern about the pace of production and how far
the company can grow without sacrificing quality for quantity (Shamsie, 2001). It has
also been stated that the company relies on particular talent, such as Catmull and
Lasseter, to create such highly regarded films, and that increasing production cannot
continue with a finite amount of talent (Bary, 2003).
Analyses
Despite its top position in the market, Pixar still needs to assess its future strategies
based on the external opportunities and threats, and the strengths and weaknesses of
the company. In its current position, Pixar has many opportunities to innovate, update
and create new technologies to improve their development process (Rafi, 2011).
Current technologies being used include the animation software Marionette , the
production management software Ringmaster and the rendering software system
Renderman (Dess, 2012). Other opportunities include the production of more sequels
and short stories, and global expansion. The major threat to the company is the rising
competitors, DreamWorks and Sony (Shamsie, 2001). Pixar needs to keep up with
technological advancements in the industry in order to stay competitive, and it also
needs to increase production without sacrificing the quality that has put it in its
current position (Rafi, 2011).
The company currently has many strengths that it can use to its advantage,
particularly after its merger with Disney in 1996.

INTRODUCTION
The purpose of this conservation assessment is to provide land managers and the
general public with an overview of the distribution and status of common trout (brook
trout Salvelinus fontinalis; brown trout Salmo trutta; and rainbow trout
Oncorhynchus mykiss) on the Grand Mesa, Uncompahgre, and Gunnison National
Forests (hereafter, GMUG). Common trout species are part of a suite of
Management Indicator Species (MIS) ...which are monitored during forest plan
implementation in order to assess the effects of management activities on their
populations and the populations of other species with similar habitat needs which
they may represent (Forest Service Manual 2620.5). MIS assessments are revised
every five years and each is a synthesis of the most recent field based observations
and peer reviewed science pertaining to the species.
Common trout and Colorado River cutthroat trout (O. clarkii stomias) are MIS
representing aquatic habitats on the GMUG. A variety of land management activities
can affect lake and stream habitats, including traditional forestry practices, road
construction and maintenance, fire and fuels management, and water development.
The presence of MIS species in a watershed is not an obstacle to active forest
management. On the contrary, MIS species are used by Forest personnel to gauge the
response of the entire forest ecosystem to land management projects we implement.
In particular, common trout were selected to assess effects of

Or is it that women are being advised and sometimes pressured into having these
procedures by their healthcare professionals and a healthcare system that seems to
favor scheduling of labor for both patient and doctor convenience. Could it be that
both doctors and Medical Complexes no longer value the woman s normal birth
/delivery process, while also benefiting from more costly Cesarean Sections as an
income enhancing tool? Some medical professionals cite C Sections as a defense
against malpractice liabilities during complicated births, e.g. forceps deliveries.
The data from Consumer Report is that many patients as well as hospitals do favor
scheduling when hospitals are fully staffed and not to spoil recreational plans,
hence fewer night time and holiday deliveries. With this level of control over the
delivery and birth process, comes the higher incidence of induced labor, often times
starting before the woman s due date which increases the risk of a C Section with
doctors believing labor as progressing too slowly for mother and baby s health.
The risk of death by a C section is 13 per 100,000 and for vaginal birth it is 3.4 per
100,000 in the developed world and this is for low risk pregnancies. A doctor as a
knowledgeable professional can convince a woman to have a C Section as a birth
plan and more so during the woman s childbirth experience, so the re education of the
physician and changing the culture of the healthcare systems is a priority. In a

14. Persuasive Essay On Early Childhood Education
I pick Early Childhood Education (ECE) as my career. In this job I will be a
teacher or someone working at a daycare who avidly cares for children. I picked up
this career by taking care of my brothers kids while he was deployed overseas.
Taking care of them was so much fun and I realized I was good with kids. When
my niece started to talk I got to help teach her how to count and help her learn new
words. I feel that one day I can do a lot more with kids. It is important to understand
the education or training requirements, skills or talents needed, salary and benefits
offered, and the duties for a particular career when making this decision.
This job can be located world wide. There are lots of different schools everywhere.
The hours can go anywhere between seven am to four pm and that s not in the hours
spent at home grading papers and making lesson plans. You ll generally work at a
school and sometimes home.
The work you ll have to be doing in this class is making lesson plans, grading
papers, and talking to parents, and dealing with daft and odious kids. Some of the
duties you ll have to do are covering for classes, watching the kids at lunch and at
recess. Some of the daily routines are making sure kids get on the right bus and
making sure they go to the right car after school, or the right person.
In this career I could make approximately $20,000 a year, my job is nowhere near
the lucrative amount of money. You get paid a little more with the more experience
you have, but there s not a big difference. If you go get a higher degree you won t
make much more money, and if you do go back to college for the higher degree you
won t make enough money to pay for the classes (Cantrell). There is a librarian, but
there contract is longer so they get paid more.
Teachers are very important but due to the government s budget cuts they don t have
the money to pay teachers that well. In the next couple years the teachers will still be
needed because the more budget cuts the more teachers that will quit. Teachers are
super important for kids, because they need to know they have the support and basic
education, but the way technology is progressing, and able to do online classes is
why no one sees teachers as being

student. Although there was a great deal of work required for this course, the subject
is very important in today s health care industry. Disease prevention is the key. The
instructor was very interactive in the course and provided adequate feedback to the
students. The instructor was supportive and encouraged students along the way. One
recommendation for the course would be a revision of the syllabus. The syllabus
instructions were repetitive and sometimes even confusing. On some assignments,
there were conflicting due dates. There was a significant amount of highlighting in
different colors, which was distracting. The author preferred to highlight the parts she
needed and therefore printed the syllabus in black and white and used the colors
appropriate for her needs. Core Course Three: Healthcare Informatics and Technology

7. Chinatown Discover new investment opportunities in Chinatown. Other than the
Chinatowns in San Francisco and New York City, this is the next largest
Chinatown in the country. Known for its colorful designs, this area is densely
populated. With its top restaurants, theaters and shopping options, it is a popular
option for renters and investors. In the last year, the median sales price has actually
fallen by $44,000 to reach $610,000. Since the average price per square foot
actually rose, this change mostly indicates that smaller homes are selling more
frequently. During the last year, the average price per square foot increased from
$914 to $1,036. Most of the multi unit homes in Chinatown are inside of low rise
buildings. In the last decade, many buildings have been transformed into luxury, high
end homes. Loft units have risen in popularity, so many historic buildings have been
converted into luxury lofts. Unlike the rest of Boston, Chinatown still has a
surprising number of affordable homes. Right now, investors can buy homes at a
comparably lower price and watch their investment rise in value over the upcoming
years. Since many renters are looking for homes in the area, investors never have to

investors can rent out commercial and residential space for a low investment
21. What Is The Significance Of The French Revolutionary
And...
The period between 20th April 1792, when after prolonged debates the deputies of
the French National Assembly finally declared war on the Habsburgs of Austria
and 18th June 1815, marking Napoleon Bonaparte s defeat at Waterloo, was
characterised by almost constant warfare, save for the brief peace of Amiens
(March 1802 May 1803). In fact, such was the extent of these wars which spanned a
little over two decades that until 1914, the British referred to them as the Great War
.1 Of late, these wars have been an object of much contention and have come under
the microscope to assist scholars in fully appreciating their significance in the
transformation of European warfare. Even today, scholars and historians alike,
remain divided over just how substantial a role the French Revolutionary and
Napoleonic warsplayed in altering the nature of wars after 1792. Without
disregarding either side, Roger Chickering has identified two master narratives
which do a remarkable job of explaining this period s importance, albeit in two
extremely dissimilar ways.2
According to Chickering, the first narrative, a notion hypothesized by Michael
Howard and further developed by Geoffrey Parker, holds that the French
Revolutionary and Napoleonic wars were merely a continuation and intensification of
the tactical and technological changes gunpowder, musketry and artillery that
occurred in the sixteenth and seventeenth centuries, which in turn paved the way for
the colossal standing armies

The epigraph of Fahrenheit 451, If they give you ruled paper, write the other way,
points to how Guy Montag follows this suggestion. Beginning the novel with this
quote reflects the tone and theme that Montag helps exemplify through the strictness
of society. By Bradbury inputting this quote as the epigraph, it emphasizes the
individuality that Montag embodies. If they give you ruled paper, write the other
way and do not become distracted by the parading, disillusioned world. This quote
states that when people try to force compliance on another, then there lays a choice
that involves going in the opposite direction, paving a desirable future from a new
path. Just like Montag discovers, people blindly follow the overarching beliefs that

In June of 2008, British Columbia became the first and only Canadian province to
introduce a carbon tax, and has been praised and scone by environmentalists,
economists, and politicians alike, arguing whether the tax is efficient or destructive
method of controlling greenhouse gas emissions. The liberal premier Gordon
Campbell introduced the carbon tax; its main purpose would be to enforce a carbon
tax to increase the price of consumption of fossil fuels within the province, the
philosophy behind the tax was to make taxes higher on the deemed environmentally
detrimental purchases and lessen the tax on the others. The carbon tax promised to
achieve this in a carbon neutral way, which meant that the revenue received from the
tax would be... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Stewart Elgie, a University of Ottawa law and economics professor and chair of the
green economy think tank Sustainable Prosperity suggests that British Columbia s
per capita fuel usage had fallen more than 4 per cent compared with the rest of
Canada and its economy (Ebner, McCarthy, 2011) Evidently it is reducing the
amount of green house gasses emitted by fossil fuel use. However this is not the
concern many had with the introduction of the tax, but the concerns were focused
upon the externalities caused by this and the effects it would have on the economy.
Three years since the carbon tax introduction and the Provincial level of GDP has
remained approximately the same, (Greenery in Canada: We have a winner) With
the provincial level of GDP remaining around the same, this suggests that at the very
worst the carbon tax has had no negative effects to the provincial economy.
Furthermore the tax also promised to remain carbon neutral and promised to cut
corporate and private income tax. British Columbia has become the province with
the lowest income tax regime and the lowest corporate tax regime (Greenery in
Canada: We have a winner). Although the carbon tax is being praised by many, it still
faces concerns as many still argue the ineffectiveness of the tax and what that means
for the province.
One major objection many economists have to the question of carbon tax
effectiveness is whether the taxes on carbon are high enough to create any change in

Stories such as When Grandma Was Young (Humphrey, 2000), Elmer and Grandpa
Eldo (Mckee, 2001) and My Granny is a Pirate (Mcdermid and Robins, 2012) can
invoke interest with early years children and inspire them to become inquisitive about
the past. It has been suggested that time means nothing to young children. However
learning to ask and answer questions through story reading will enhance their concept
history. Therefore continuing to do so through the Early Learning Goals will prepare
children, entering at primary level, to appreciate the importance of history (Lunn and
Bishop, 2004).
It is important to remember to children do not stop learning history when they finish
their time at primary school. Maintained secondary schools follow the NC which
maintains that all children will continue to learn history by means of the KS3 History
Programmes of Study (2013). Therefore it is important to prepare children for more

31. Call Of The Wild Conflict Analysis
In the novel Call of the Wild, Buck, the protagonist struggles with the constant duality
between his Love of a Man and his pull towards savagery. The civilization that
greeted Buck in the Santa Clara Valley was one that was based on Southern
Hospitality, but the savagery that slowly ripped and consumed Buck was one of an
unforgiving nature, destroying anyone or anything that was unfortunate enough to
see it. One major confliction Buck battles with is his Loveof a Man while he is in the
presence of civilization. In the beginning of the novel, while Buck is still on Judge
Miller s place, London states, His father, a huge Saint Bernard, had been the judge
s inseparable companion, and Buck bid fair to follow in the way of his father (12).
Buck enjoyed being in the company of the Judge s family and was comfortable in
the ways of civilization. On page 23, the novel states, Francois s whip snapped less
frequently, and Perrault even honored Buck by lifting up his feet and carefully
examining them. When Perrault did this, it made Buck feel that love of a man that
he strives for. Later in the novel, John Thornton saved Buck from his previous
owners Hal, Charles, and Mercedes, and took care of Buck until his wounds healed
and he regained his strength. But love that was feverish and burning, that was
adoration, that was madness,it had taken John Thornton to arouse (58). Buck had
never experienced true love for a man, all his previous relationships had been of a

New...
Starting in the 1600 s, the English began immigrating to the New World. While the
settlers from both the Chesapeake and New England colonies were originally exposed
to the same religion within the Anglican Church, as well as primarily the same
intention within the government system, the colonies differed in how they would
manage their societies once they were settled in the New World. The Northern New
Englandareas economy was built upon rocks. Their soil was very rocky, farming
was much harder than in chesapeake. The people who settled in this colony were
families not single white men who were to be indentured slaves. These factors
created the New England colonies. As far as the social aspect of the two colonies,
there were significant differences in how the colonies were populated. New
England came over with big families which they would use to begin small
communities. The relationships that were already built between these settlers
would go to benefit them and provide the means to creating the society in an
organized and well thought out manner. When you are able to develop and rely on
ones you trust making a wholesome community becomes easier, the supplies, the

The Price on Rice
When headlines began popping out sanguine stories about Africa s emerging market a
few years ago, everyone from nations to companies to individuals perked up. The
continent seemed ripe for a green revolution (Nsehe). In 2009 to 2010, a handful of
private equity firms and institutional investors thrust into the continent s promising
agriculture markets before others could join the land grab (Henshaw). Some forty
five other equity firms planned to invest in the coming three to five years (Henshaw).
The sentiment continued through 2011, when Forbes released an article naming
agriculture the first of 5 top investment opportunities in Africa for the coming year
(Nsehe). Since then, the lust for African agriculture has faded due to the uneven,
laggard development of the African economy. Only recently has interest returned.
Trends have shown the continent s agriculture industry to be on the rise; economic
growth has returned as well. This is characteristic of a promising emerging market, on
the frontier of economic success. Africa simply needs a launch pad: help from foreign
entities to jump start its agriculture. With the population increasing, and consequently
the demand for food, this focus may be West Africas rice production. Thus, an FDI in
rice production may not only be profitable, but impactful. Several factors, including
demand and supply, market status, and past investments show this market to be
promising. However, current risks make investment

38. Analysis Of The Book The Barbarian Nurseries
The beginning of Human Knowledge is through the senses, and the fiction writer
begins where human perception begins. He appeals through the senses, and you
cannot appeal to the senses with abstractions. Flannery O Connor. Hector Tobar
develops the genre of suburban dystopia in his novel The Barbarian Nurseries
through the use of imagery to appeal to the reader s senses and provide him or her
with the knowledge to to begin developing the idea of what the book s genre might be.
Hector Tobar immediately employs imagery so you can begin identifying the
setting to the genre it could be a part of. There s the image of a sunny day, cut grass,
a well decorated garden, identical houses all over the neighborhood, and an empty cul
de sac. These are all staples to the American suburban fiction where many of the
people from the middle class choose to live there to get away from the fast paced
and crowded lifestyles of the cities like Los Angeles and New York. Just right after
this setting settled into our minds, Tobar provides a hint for this setting to be
considered dystopian by putting one of the main characters, Scott in a relatively
difficult situation for him. That situation being lawn mowing, a mundane act for
most people to relate to making it also fit into the genre of realistic fiction. I say that
he s providing a hint of a suburban dystopia because Scott is unhappy with his
situation, and by definition, a dystopia is a city where the public is generally unhappy.

the reader s job to find out what roles the different characters have. It is rare for a
character to have no importance; there is always a reason why a certain character is
put into a story. In Hamlet, Shakespeare does a phenomenal job of showing the roles
and interactions between his many characters. In Hamlet, many of the characters
motives are questioned and are essentially the main part of the play. Trust, loyalty,
and revenge come to mind when talking about the characters and themes. Each
characterin some way connects to one of those themes. Laertes acts as a foil and
antagonist towards Hamlet, and these two roles tie him to the central themes of loyalty

Hamlet tries to be loyal towards his father, but he has absolutely no problem turning
against his mother without any evidence of her malfeasance. Hamlet automatically
sees the worst in his family. Laertes, on the other hand, wants to help his whole
family and shows a bit more respect for them. For instance, he tries to warn Ophelia
about going out with Hamlet. He does not do this to control her or to denigrate
Hamlet; instead he does this in hopes of protecting her:
Perhaps he loves you now,
And now no soil nor cautel doth besmirch
The virtue of his will, but you must fear.
His greatness weighed, his will is not his own,
For he himself is subject to his birth.
He may not, as unvalued persons do,
Carve for himself, for on his choice depends The safety and health of this whole
state. (1.3.17 24)
He tells her that even if Hamlet does love her, he cannot marry her because she is
not a princess. He does not want to discomfit her or see her get hurt. Hamlet,
however, just belabors everyone to the point of no end and he does it in a way that
does not inform them of what they did. Shakespeare makes it evident that Laertes
and Hamlet are foils when it comes to

Fractured Fairy Tale
With his eyes closed and his arm gripping Dumbledore as tightly as he could, Harry
stepped into that felling of compression. Then, instantly, they were there, at the top
of the astronomy tower. Harry helped Dumbledore over to the small steps.
Dumbledore laid there, too weak to stand. You re hurt, Harry said, I will go get
Madam Pomfrey. She will be able to help. No. Severus, Dumbledore said clearly,
Bring me Severus... Harry went to fulfill Dumbledore s orders when there was a
noise from below, as if someone was coming.
Hide yourself below, Harry, commanded Dumbledore, Don t speak or be seen by
anyone without my permission. No matter what happens, it is imperative that you

They were Death Eaters servants of the Dark Lord. Right after them, Harry watched
as Severus Snape sneaked up the steps. One on the Death Eaters, Bellatrix, walked up
to Draco. Well done, Draco, she said.
Good evening, Bellatrix, said Dumbledore with a grim grin on his face, I believe
introduction is in order.
Oh, there s no time for that, Albus.
Snape was slowly making his way up the stairs. He was preparing himself for what
was about to happen. What are you waiting for, Bellatrix said to Draco, Kill
him...now.
No, Snape said as he came up behind the Death Eaters. Dumbledore nodded as if
giving him some sort of signal. With two casts of the wand, they both shot green
bolts at each of the Death Eaters killing them instantly. Harry stood there in shock
at what he just saw. The spell they casted was Avada Cadavra, the killing curse.
This spell was forbidden and only used by servants of the Dark Lord to kill someone
instantly. Why would Dumbledore and Snape use such a spell, Harry asked himself.
Draco laid there, his eyes filled with fear of what just happened. Draco Malfoy, said
Dumbledore, were you really foolish enough to believe that you could kill me?
There was a silence in the room. That doesn t matter. You betrayed me and now you
will die.
No, please, begged Draco, I will do anything you ask. Just, please, don t kill me.

41. The First Chapter Of Freakonomics By Steven D. Levitt
1. In the first chapter of Freakonomics by Steven D. Levitt and Stephen J. Dubner,
it talks about dealing with societal mores, economic incentives, and cheating. With
schoolteachers, the possibility of getting a pay raise and the grades their students
get on standardized tests are some of the incentives that derive them to cheat. In
the book, Levitt explains how he examines sets of answers to these tests and tries
to see a pattern if teachers were changing answers for their students. Dubner and
Levitt, both incorporate samples of these scored tests and have the readers try and
find the cheating detected on there. Teacher cheating is rarely looked for, hardly
ever detected, and just about never punished. (Levitt and Dubner 24) The
incentives for teachers are to be more recognized and a chance to get a better pay
while, for sumo wrestlers, they can move up a rank. The only difference is that for
sumo wrestlers, they never got caught because in Japan, they assume they are
always telling the truth and never lying, while for teachers, some lost their jobs
because they were caught. Cheating is a primordial economic act: getting more for
less. (Levitt and Dubner 21) Cheating is something I have witnessed multiple of
times while being in school. There were students who would help and talk during
tests to get better grades on the exam since the teacher wasn t paying attention to the
class when we took the test. At the end of it all, they did get away with it and the

42. Progressivist Teaching Philosophy
Progressivist Philosophy of Education
As a future educator there are many ideas or philosophies on how teachers should
teach students. Students learn best when they are able to relate to the material that is
being taught. Cohen (1999) writes, This educational philosophy stresses that students
should test ideas by active experimentation. Learning is rooted in the questions of
learners that arise through experiencing the world The curriculum is based on the
needs, ability, and experiences that the student has. From the curriculum, teachers
create lessons that influence their students to actively participate and encourage
development. The teacher is merely an organizer who offers encouragement as well
as prompting the students to use critical thinking skills by challenging them with
questions. Students then use this skill to cooperate in groups as well as discuss view
point that they may not agree with. This form of duel communication is a skill that
allows the student to become more comfortable with their social skills as well as
team working.
Role of Teacher and Student
As a teacher the main focus is on the students. In the progressivist teaching
philosophy, student centered learning is the focus. The progressivist style of learning
not only looks out for the student in their education but also looks out for their well
being. As a progressivist teacher, they allow the student to make his/her own
experience. From this experience, teachers use this as a way to get students
43. Reasons Of The European Expansion In The 15th Century
The European Expansion was motivated purely by the religious rivalries among the
European powers. European nations in the 15th century began exploring new lands
with three motives: religion, wealth, and glory. It was made possible by advances in
naval fleet building and navigation, first pioneered by the Portuguese. Europeans
began to be involved in extensive exploration, coming in contact with Africa,
Americas and their prime target Asia. The main targets of the pioneering Portugese
and Spanish was to find and alternate trade route for the Indies trade and also
promote Christianity to the new lands. As the century unfolded, the search for newer
territories to colonize and shortern routes to the exotic land of spices and silk
became the initial driving force for the intensive early exploration by the Europeans .
Religious motives of the Old Land of Europe s exploration can be traced back to the
days of the Crusades down to the 11th and 15th century, where the European
Christians tried to invade and claim the city of Jerusalem from its Muslim control.
The struggle between the Islamic rule and the European Christians planted the
ideology of Reconquista in the latter s religion. It influenced the Christian religion
with an air of religious intolerance. With the Protestant Reformation in the 16th
century, European Catholic s interests in colonizing newer lands and declare global
dominance earned a new momentum. And strong Catholic nations of Spain and
Portugal were the

45. Black Boy Character Development
Richard Wright s autobiographical novel, Black Boy, illustrates his character
development. He encounters a lot of hardships which he eventually grows from.
Throughout the course of the story, Richard develops from an oblivious young boy
to a responsible young adult. As the story begins, Richard can be classified as a
young boy who is very unaware of his consequences and situations. To illustrate,
Richard was very bored at home, and he sees a broom; he thinks to himself, My
ideas were growing, blooming... I was wondering just how the long fluffy white
curtains would look if I lit a bunch of straws and held it under them. Would I try it?
Sure. (Wright, 4). This statement shows that he is very insensible about the damage

To emphasize, his dad tells him to kill the cat because it was being too disruptive,
and Richard wanted him to feel his resentment, so he thinks to himself, How could
I hit back at him? Oh yes...I would kill it!...my deep hate of him urged me toward a
literal acceptance of his word. (Wright, 11). Richard is extremely agitated from
what his dad said but does not step back to think about the consequences he might
face in the end. Furthermore, he grasps that his mom is extremely uptight, so by
killing the cat Richard is being very insensitive to the fact that he is putting himself
in a position where he will get punished by his mom for destroying nature. Also, he
wanders around and a black man grabs him and drags him into a saloon; the man
whispers something to his ear tells Richard to repeat it to the lady, and from that
point on he says that, ...for a penny or a nickel, I would repeat to anyone whatever
was whispered to me. (Wright, 21). This shows that he is extremely unmindful of
how dangerous grown black men can be in his area. Richard is ignorant of the fact
that he is being taught inappropriate things and being used for entertainment. Richard
is at first a very oblivious young
46. Colonist Freedom
What is freedom? Have you ever wondered why the patriots wanted independence
from the British government? For the colonist, freedom was a country without
parliament and their taxes. When the king didn t allowed them to be in the congress
and then put taxes on them, the colonists got angry. To avoid this helplessness on
their part, the colonists fought with the British because they wanted to establish a
new government where they could make their own rules and laws. When the king
shifted the job to pay for the colonists, people got really mad because, they felt that
the king should pay for his own country! Shifted the job here means that the king put
the job of paying for the troops on the shoulders of the colonists. The king put taxes...

This had greatly disappointed the colonist. So when the king put taxes on them,
they were not happy. This problem also has a fancy term called taxation without
representation . The colonists felt used by a government who did not represent
them nor cared about their opinions. They felt like slaves to England. These bitter
feelings got the colonist to the point of revolt. These sentiments can be realized by
Patrick Henry s quote give me liberty or give me death! . The colonist prepared a
petition called the olive branch petition to stop the taxes, while also preparing for
war. After the king declined their petition and promised to demolish all of the rebels,
the colonies were fired up. There were many wars after that like the battle of bunker
hill and the revolutionary war. Finally, on July 4 1776, the Americans got their
freedom from the British. Some people might think that the colonists shouldn t have
fought with the British. One reason is that the colonist paid less than the people in
Britain. Another reason might be that the colonist should have paid for their own
protection. And the King did not demand a large amount of money in a limited
amount of days. While that may be true, the colonist did pay their taxes even though
their taxes were less than the taxes paid in Britain. And these taxes were really unfair
and were violating their rights..

48. Course Taking And Apparatus Set Up
Course taking and apparatus set up will be the first steps in this project. For safety
measures, the apparatus needs to be reinstalled under the fume hood. Basic
pretreatment processes will be carried out in order to prepare the biosorbents for
adsorption. Aiming to check the reliability of the system and find possible pitfalls,
some preliminary tests will be run, and the results will be analyzed. Once the
reliability of the apparatus, repeatability of the process, and standard operating
procedure are determined, the next phase of the project will be commenced.
5.2Phase 2
In this phase, the experiments will be focused on single component and binary
systems. Firstly, pure methane will be fed into the column and the adsorption process
will be investigated. Afterwards, the same experiments at similar conditions will
be carried out using pure water vapor. Based on the result of these experiments, a
new set of experiments will be designed and carried out for binary systems
(Methane and water vapor). Equilibrium and kinetics will be studied. Dynamic
studies will be accomplished. Generally, the performance of Flax Shive and Oat
Hulls in PSA process will be determined.
5.3Phase 3
To further investigate the adsorption process, various isotherms will be fitted on the
experimental data. Equilibrium capacity, uptake of species, diffusion constants, and
selectivity will be calculated. Based on these results, the nature of the adsorption
process will be determined. Afterwards, a set

Walmart is an example of a significant event that was the result of evil. The

abundant amount of severe injuries as a result of the chaotic state of mind.
Specifically, people are fighting each other just to get a TV or an Xbox causing
unorganization within the store causing evil. Similarly, in Lord of the Flies, chaos
occurs for the same reason, those people want what they desire most, as in this case
meat or a signal fire. With these
50. Examples Of Determination In Where The Red Fern Grows
Determination is the first theme shown throughout the novel, Where The Red
Fern Grows. When Billy ordered his two dogs and went on a trip to get them,
Billy used his strong determination to brave out rude city people and get over all of
the hardships in his way. I was ready to die for my dogs. (Rawls 45 46) After Billy
went to the city and collected his pups, he went on a venture to go back home.
When the night came, Billy and his dogs slept in a cave, but then a mountain lion
caught the scent of Billy s dogs and roared out into the Ozarks. Billy became
determined and protected his dogwith his life against the mountain lion. Another

dogs were no where to be found. Even though the group wanted to head back to
camp, Billy kept looking for his dogs and used determination with a little help with
people from the camp to obtain his dogs back. The theme, determination, helped
Billy numerous amount of times to save someone from getting hurt or killed in the
novel. Spirituality is the next theme shared with the reader in the novel, Where
The Red Fern Grows. When Billy got home from his expedition from town, he
attempted to convince his mom that how god got him the puppies and their
names. I told her about praying for the two pups, about the magazine and the plans
I had made. (Rawls 54) After Billy came home from the trip to the town, his family
and himself ate diner and asked a few questions. Billy then went to bed and told his
mother about his wondering. Billy shows spirituality when telling his mother that he
believes that god made his dogs to be in Billy s hand. I know if god made room in
heaven for all good dogs, I know he made a special place for you. (Rawls 247) When
Billy buried Little Ann next to Old Dan, Billy was extremely dejected and wondered
why god let Billy s dogs die. Right before his family and himself left for town,
51. An Analysis Of All Over But The Shoutin
In the essay, All Over But the Shoutin , Rick Bragg, the author, depicts the painful
strain inflicted upon family s relationship caused by the reckless action of a father
to forgo the future of his wife and kids in pursuit of his own selfish ambitions. The
author s use of rhetorical moves such as tone, stance, and imagery effectively
portrayed to his audience that, regardless of how debauch a deed may be, there is
always room in one s heart for forgiveness you just have to be receptive to its
backlash. The author s melancholic, yet, optimistic tone arouses mix feelings from
his readers. Bragg clouts his readers perception of his father with harrowing,
however, coveted recollections of the past. In the author s comparative recount of
the Father s demeanor, he paints an unsettling, yet a hopeful life of his father: I
thought he would greet me with that strong voice that sounded so fine when he
laughed and so evil when, slurred by a quart of corn likker, he whirled through the
house and cried and shrieked, tormented by things we could not see or even imagine.
I thought he would be the man and monster of my childhood (Bragg 1). Bragg s
dejected tone when addressing his father s latest demeanor is satirical as the Father s
past behavior is anything but celebratory. The author s conscious decision to compare
his memories of the Father to that of a man and a monster depicts the two emotions
Bragg intended to invoke from his readers through the use of tone: contentment
52. A Report Card For Yankton School District
For the first project requirements, I collected data for the Yankton School District and
the Mitchell School District from the South Dakota Department of Education s
website. I specifically looked at each district s report card that included performance
indicators, school performance index, staffing and student population statistics,
attendance numbers and high schoolcompletion and college and career readiness
statistics. Each school districts report card contained further detailed information and
percentages regarding test scoresin math, ELA, and science.
After collecting and organizing the data from the district report card for Yankton
School District, one of the most interesting trends I found was the difference in
scores between 2013 and 2014. For the years 2012 and 2013, scores were reported on
four levels: Below Basic, Basic, Proficient, and Advanced. Then in 2014, the
scores were reported on a new leveling system including the four levels: Level 1,
Level 2, Level 3, and Level 4. When reviewing the different levels, I compared
Level 1 to Below Basic. In 2013 for the 6th grade class, out of 190 students, 0.53%
of those students scored at the Below Basic level in math. However, in 2014 for
the 6th grade class, out of 166 students, 32.32% of those students scored at Level 1.
Even when evaluating the same group of students, the 7th grade class for 2014, I
noticed a rather large increase as well, with 23.30% of 209 students scoring at the
Level 1.

53. Eugenics Is A Theory Of Eugenics
During the late 19th and early 20th century a popular new theory started to spread.
Based in the ideas of Charles Darwin, the theory of eugenics came about. During its
time, it was embraced almost unanimously throughout the world. This theory had
very few objectors to the practice of eugenics. But what is eugenicsanyways? Why
was it poplar exactly? And what were its impacts on the world we live in today?
Eugenics is a theory that had many different reasons for being popular, and many
differing impact on our world today. Eugenics is an interesting topic that could be

But, after Galton released his research many found the theory interesting.
Interesting enough that eugenics became an academic subject taught and researched
at a multitude of colleges and universities. This research at colleges and universities
were given funding from various sources such as the rich and government. There
were even three International Eugenics Conferences which gave a global location for
eugenicists where they could meet. With gatherings in 1912 in London, and in 1921
and 1932 in New York. This interest in eugenics was not only limited to the academic
world (Haller)(Bashford).
Eugenic policies began being employed during the early 20th century in the United
States. Later, in the 1920s and 30s, eugenic policies were applied in other countries,
comprising Belgium, Canada, Japan, and many others (Adams). The policies and
programs were mainly implemented in different degrees around the world include,
genetic screening, birth control, marriage restrictions, segregation of both race and the
mentally ill, obligatory sterilization, forced abortions and pregnancies, and
genocide(Bashford). Many different groups of people were targeted by these
policies. Those who were targeted included the poor, mentally ill, blind, deaf,
disabled, promiscuous women, homosexuals, and racial groups the most notable
racial groups targeted were the Jews and Gypsies during the holocaust (Dikotter).

54. Characteristics Of The Leopard
The Leopard
Long ago, the leopard and the Ethiopian, his white hunting companion, lived in a
place called the High Veldt. The two dominated this vast grassland, and they were
able to hunt and catch any animal they wished. Their favorite meals consisted of the
plain sandy yellow brown coated giraffe and zebra. One sunny day, the giraffe and
zebra were hiding from the leopard and Ethiopian within the shadows of the trees.
Mysteriously, jagged shadow shapes appeared on the fur of the giraffe and the
zebra. The prey became permanently striped and spotted and were so well
camouflaged that the leopard and Ethiopian were now incapable of finding lunch.
The two hunters knew they needed to up their game, so the Ethiopian turned his
skin black. The leopard asked his companion to give him spots so he could blend
in, too. The Ethiopian pressed his five fingertips all over the leopard s plain coat;
both of them were now camouflaged just like the giraffe and zebra.
This retelling of Rudyard Kipling s How the Leopard Got His Spots is a fanciful
fable which portrays the cunning nature of the leopard. Besides its stealthiness and
competitiveness, this spotted wonder possesses several other traits which display
God s originality in creating it. In order to understand the significance of the leopard,
one must understand its physical characteristics and behavior, unique habitat and
hunting strategies, and extreme threats to its existence.
It s helpful to understand the taxonomy and naming
56. Separation Between the Narration in Response to...
In reading Frankenstein, by Mary Shelly, a motif of distance and separateness can be
discerned from the text. In the structure of the narrative, the reader is distant from the
action. The setting of the narrative is situated often in isolated and nearly inaccessible
areas, creating separateness between the action of the story and the everyday world.
The Frankensteinmonster is remote compared to the rest of world by narrative
structure, geographic area, and his namelessness. The reader must look through
several lenses throughout the novel. The letters that begin the book are addressed to

The light of the story is passing through the lenses of Robert Walton, Victor
Frankenstein, and finally the antagonist of the story: the nameless Frankenstein
monster. Shelly gradually drops these lenses once again until we are back to Walton
s letters to Mrs. Saville. The three main lenses of this narration are also separate in
space from the rest of humanity for the majority of this novel. Walton first sees the
Frankenstein monster and then Victor on his voyage north into the ice. It is only
these two creatures, and the adventurers of Walton s crew that would travel this far
away from the comfort and companionship of humanity. The first spoken encounter
between Frankenstein and his monster occurs on the icy glacier in the Swiss Alps
near the source of the Arveiron. After Victor s ascent into the mountains he is
confronted by the monster and is led to an even higher peak to the hut of the
monster where the he begins his tale. The monster exists outside the sphere of
humanity, right on the fringe. He spends his formative months in the woods or inside
his hiding place outside the cottage of the exiled French Nationals. The only people
who ever hear the monster are Victor, the blind father of the cottage, and William
right before he dies. The rest of humanity, even if the monster tries to speak, is unable
to hear him. The monster is so far from what is right and normal that the capacity for
understanding is not within the grasp of normal human experience. The
