The Power Of Choice In Brian Doyle s Joyas Voladoras
From hummingbirds nimbly flying over flowers to humming women quietly walking through the
park, Brian Doyle s essay, Joyas Voladoras, brings light to the power of choice in relation to human
experience and emotion. Doyle displays this power of choice through vivid descriptions of two
animals: a hummingbird and a blue whale, two seemingly different organisms. However, instead of
focusing on the obvious disparities of the animals, Doyle concentrates on what makes them similar,
the heart. Both the hummingbird and blue whale have hearts, but they use their hearts in drastically
different ways, one heart being the smallest and another being the largest in the world. Contrary to the
beliefs of science and evolution, Doyle believes that humans are not so different from these two
creatures, because, no living being is without interior liquid motion. We all churn inside (3). Suddenly,
the essay transforms from a National Geographic journal to a heartfelt message that connects all of the
human race. Doyle dives into how the heart experiences so many emotions and ideas throughout a
human life. Knowing that the heart is a delicate jewel, Doyle demonstrates that, all hearts finally are
bruised and scarred, scored and torn, repaired by time and will, patched by force of character, yet
fragile and rickety forevermore (3). Doyle understands that many individuals try to defend their hearts
and protect them from any harm, but those hearts will eventually be hurt and injured in a

Abstract
Shifting probability of credit status of past due or non performing loans across stage has always been
the center of attention not only for banking institutions but also for academicians. Mortgage loans
changing credit status has a major influence ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
A significant portion of those overdue bad loans will cause the rapid rise in the Non Performing Loans
(NPL) ratio for financial institutions, resulting in a serious erosion of profit, and causing a chain
reaction of bankruptcy and escalated financial crisis. The century old Lehman Brothers declared
bankruptcy in 2008 which caused a domino effect, not only hitting the U.S. economy, but also
triggering a global financial tsunami. Such disaster may be explained by the fact that banks recently
owns excessive amount of poor credits which may be the result of highly competitive banking
environment and reckless credit imprudence, even reaching an alarming level in bank s NPL ratios. In
order to correct this problem, the banking industry must make prudent and cautious decisions in the
beginning of loan auditing process and also recognize the dynamic fact that credit status is not static.
It shifts greatly throughout the life span of the loan credit. The change is more dramatic especially in
the case of past due or non performing loans. Only when banking institutions are fully aware of the
dynamic nature of credit status can the banking institutions avoid making the same mistake again.
This paper focuses on the study of the shifting probability of credit status of past due or non
performing loans. In this study, the samples are selected based on the number of different credit

The Importance Of Being An Educated Person
School provides a place for mental, physical, and ethical development. Character is taught and learned
in many settings: in the classroom, in the hallways, in the lunchroom, and on the sports field As, Diane
Ravitch stated in her essay The Essentials Of A Good Education . So, now I wonder what does it mean
to be an educated person. Well, today I am going to give you an explanation of what it means to be an
educated person in my own opinion. I will also be narrating one particular experience from my own
life which lead me to the conclusion of this term. My experience is in reference to my job; which has
made me expand my knowledge. Further more this made me the educated individual I am today.
(Ravitch 111,112).
In my early adolescence I considered education being just solely a term referring to public high school
and college classes. I was taught in order to have a good future I had to graduate from both and land a
good paying job. So, due to this expectation of graduating from college; I always would and look up
to people with a degree. I classified anyone else with out a degree into a category who was beneath
someone who had a college education. This speculation that any one with out a degree was stupid was
later proved wrong. After, I had a first hand experience I was able to understand the importance of real
life situations. The interesting thing about my development as an individual; I am constantly able to
learn new skills as long as I have an open mind. This leads

Government And Law In Reformation Theology . The Protestant
Government and Law in Reformation Theology The Protestant Reformation s initiation through
Martin Luther s criticism of the Catholic Church with his Ninety Five Theses brought about a united
front of Huldrych Zwingli, John Calvin, and Martin Luther and their attempts to reform the Catholic
Church, all of whom eventually split from the Church and started their own religious movements. As
the Reformation movement flourished under each leader, their theological differences eventually split
the movements apart drastically, their differences eventually turning into a massive feud between
Zwingli and Luther, each declaring the other as a heretic [1]. Of their many differences, their opinions
on the relationship between religion and the state ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Calvin had a very similar viewpoint to Zwingli s beliefs on the authority of the church and state, with
some slight differences regarding the level of importance placed upon the church. In agreement with
Zwingli, Calvin affirmed that if it be his pleasure to appoint kings over kingdoms, and senators or
other magistrates over free cities, it is our duty to be obedient to any governors whom God has
established over the places in which we reside [3]. While Zwingli placed more of a balance upon the
relationship between the state and church, Calvin asserted that the state only held authority as a direct
result of the church, the authority directly approved of by God. In his view, any influential entities
within the state only held their influence under God. Calvin first pushed for his theology to be
implemented after writing Institutes of the Christian Religion, attempting to reform the religious life
within Geneva, Switzerland for two years until he and a contemporary, William Farel refused to adopt
religious practices enforced in other parts of Switzerland. Calvin escaped the city under persecution,
only to return in 1541 once the council of Geneva had finally agreed to implement his previous
reforms under the diminishing influence of the church there. His Ecclesiastical Ordinances were
implemented in the city except for the most significant aspect, the Consistory. The Consistory was

The Indian Act and residential school
The Indian Act of 1876 and many of its amending statutes contained sections that were discriminatory
towards Canadian Native Indians, and that legalized suppression of Indian customs and traditions. In
this paper, I will examine how one section of the Act, the one relating to residential schools,
contributed to the genocide of Indian culture. Ever since the first Europeans set foot on Canadian soil
in the 15th century, they have thought their culture and way of life was superior to that of the Native
North Americans. Initially the Europeans relied upon the Indians to show them how to travel and
survive in the wilds of Canada. They also were dependent on Indians as trading partners and as
military allies. However, as more settlers arrived ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
At the same time, those teachers tried to instill the white man s ways into them. The whole concept of
teaching in the residential schools was countering the traditional native lifestyle. Native children had
always learned through interacting with, emulating, and observing their parents and elders. There was
no structured educational system as there was in the schools. Parents thought that you ...don t [want
to] explain too much or you ll take away the opportunity to learn. (Goulet, 1998) Discipline was
another philosophy foreign to the Aboriginal peoples of Canada. Native parents would let their
children discover how to go about doing things by making mistakes on their own. If a child tried
something and it did not work out, the child would suffer the natural consequences of their error and
try to find a better way next time. The entire concept of striking a child was completely unheard of and
was thought to be extremely inappropriate and unnecessary. At both Mopass and the Ontario school,
these were common practices, as was starving children and taking away their privileges. King (1967),
for example describes a situation: They starved us up there! We got one egg a year at Easter. The rest
of the time we got dogfood mush [corn meal] and skim milk. Them in the staff dining room, though,
they got bacon and eggs everyday. We never saw fruit from one Christmas to the next, but they sure
had it. Why some of those kids just starved to death. One year there was

When writing a paper it can be very difficult unless you break it up into sections. When I had to write
my first paper I felt like a man on a desert island all alone without a clue on how to do anything. But
with the help of a few teachers they taught me how to survive on the island of writing papers. What
the teachers taught me was that just like everything in life it needs to be taken in steps. The steps they
taught me still apply to the papers I write to this day. The first thing you need when you write a paper

The Power Of Money In The Great Gatsby
The Power of Pennies Money is a power that comes with a price. In the 1920 s during the great
depression, money was a huge issue, because of all the people losing their jobs. This caused people to
do whatever they can to get it. In The Great Gatsby the characters suffer from a similar problem: They
all want money, but not all of them have it. They then do whatever they have to do to climb to the top
of the social ladder. In The Great Gatsby, Fitzgerald shows the motif money is power through the
characters Daisy, Myrtle, and Gatsby. Daisy would suffer through any pain as long as she got to be
rich. Gatsby conveys Daisy s lust for money when he says, Her voice is full of money (Fitzgerald
120). Daisy wants money more than anything else; even to the point that it shows in her voice and
actions. Everything she does is meticulously planned around keeping her social status and access to
money alive but not around her own happiness. She is even referred to as The king s daughter and The
golden girl further showing her desire for money(Fitzgerald 120). Daisy perfectly shows how money
can take control of life as it did to hers. Without her desire for money, Daisy would not have done
most of the things she ended up doing in The Great Gatsby. Daisy will be shaped forever by the crude
force of Tom s money (Jr. Leland S). To Daisy, the force of money is so strong that she will allow
others to control how she lives just to obtain its power. Even though Tom is the one who has

Strategic Review of Australian Department Store David Jones
David Jones Limited (DJS) is an Australian retailer tracing its origins back to 1838 when it first

says that no matter who you are, you have a family that can help you and that you need to help others.
Chapter 29 of Inkheart by Cornelia Funke supports this theory, because while Meggie and Mo were
talking they thought about Dustfinger. They were wondering if he was ok. This shows that they really
do care about Dustfinger after he betrayed them. This shows us that everyone makes mistakes, and

The Biography Of Wi Fi Signals
In the world of IT, there are many pioneers that helped contribute to the way we use technology today,
from early ideas of what a computer could be way before one was actually made, to the inventor of Wi
Fi signals. In this report I will be discussing 6 of them and evaluating which is the top pioneer . Firstly,
Augusta Ada King Noel, known as the Countess of Lovelace was an English Mathematician and
writer during the 19th century. Born in London on the 10th December 1815, she was the only true
child of the poet Lord Byron and Anne Isabella Milbanke (his wife) as all of his other children were
born to other women who were not married to Byron. Lord Byron left England shortly after Ada s
birth and eventually died in the Greek war of Independence 8 years later. Due to her late husband s
actions Ada s mother decided to promote mathematics and writing to Ada to help prevent her getting
the insanity Anne believed Lord Byron had suffered from. Later, in 1835 Ada married William King,
who three years later became Earl of Lovelace, giving Ada her title of Countess of Lovelace . After
furthering her education with scientists such as: Andrew Crosse and Sir David Brewster, as well as
author Charles Dickens to become an Analyst, she met fellow British mathematician Charles Babbage
through her private tutor. They developed an ongoing friendship and working relationship while
famously working together on Babbage s work on the Analytical Engine. An example of her work on

International Trade Is An Effective Stimulation Of...
Engaging in international trade is an effective stimulation of economic growth. David Ricardo s
principle of comparative advantage argues while nations involved in international trade, a country will
become specialised in producing a product that has the lowest relative costs. (Economist, 2015) By
focusing on the production onto a limited scope of product or industries, firms or the nation will
experience rise in productivity due to higher efficiency in allocation and utilisation of resources. As
the process of specialisation will cause reallocation of other less efficient resources, nations, as a
result, will import products that are less efficiently produced from other countries. While different
nations specialising in different goods and services, a greater variety and cheaper products will
become available for consumption, improving the quality and quantity of consumption by all nations.
To determine whether developing nations are experiencing disadvantage in the international trade, it
requires a careful examination with Porter s Diamond factor endowments. It analysis a nation s
competitiveness under four categories: factor endowments, demand condition, related and supporting
industries and firm strategy, structure and rivalry.
Factor endowments meaning the availability of resources and skills, which can further categorise into
basic and advanced factor. To fully utilise the potentials within a nation (Basic factor), it requires
policy set by different parties such

The first alternative addresses the organizational structure which best responds to the challenges faced
while the second alternative attempts to garner IBM s internal resources and external market
connections to better address the complexity of the personal computer environment and thus return
IBM to its prior strength.
Alternative A: Organic Structure (internal focus on environmental considerations)
To answer the many external environmental factors affecting IBM s personal computer business they
must raise structural complexity and decentralize decision making through increasing the number of
departments and personnel which individually address such boundary spanning environmental points
as pricing, customer representation, and new technologies. Human resources must be effectively
utilized as key personnel must be recruited both quickly in the transformation and in the future.
A less hierarchical organizational approach will allow for relevant information flow between
departments through the use of design tools such as taskforces and committees which can provide vital
information to decision makers who can quickly react to the changing environmental demands. The
enhancement of useful environmental information will aid in more accurate planning and market
forecasting which can strengthen IBM s

My Experience At Bmw s Playground Essay
This summer we had the chance to spend some time in Europe. One of our stopping points was
Munich. Needless to say we relished in the opportunity to play in BMW s playground. As you will
read below, we are massive car enthusiasts, so you can imagine our excitement in visiting BMW s
heartland! We were like kids in a candy shop ogling and drooling at the new toys, new cars, and the
latest and greatest.
For those that don t know, let me give you a brief history lesson on both myself and Chris. I have
ALWAYS had a passion for cars. There is just something so sexy about cars, the lines, the power, the
way they make you feel...if you are a car person, you know what I mean and how I am feeling even
typing this. Let s put it this way, when my family went to buy a car, they took me, the little cute little
blonde versus one of my 3 brothers. I knew more about the cars than the sales person. Chris has been
around the car world his entire life. His father had a dealership, and Chris followed suit. He worked at
a Ford dealership; then shortly was recruited to run a Cadillac store. From there, he was once again
pursued open and own his own Infiniti dealership. Pretty much, we love nice luxurious cars!
As I stated in our very 1st meeting, I NEVER want anyone to be that person that is simply nodding
along and having absolutely no idea what is going on and all kinds of confused, I want to start with the
basics of BMW and then dive into why they are so successful. I think we all can

Analysis Of The Movie Fried Green Tomatoes
My first impressions of the movie Fried Green Tomatoes was that it was a fluff and light movie. The
previews of the movie would lead one to believe that myself included. I was wrong. The first part of
the movie was set in 1930 s. This part of the movie addressed the issue of racism and ageism before
the time of the Civil Rights Movement. When the movie moves in to present day, the story covers the
struggles Evelyn is experiencing with menopause, or as it was sometime called; the change of life.

Augustus Superstition
Suetonius describes Augustus in a negative light. At first it didn t seem that way. The Roman historian
touched on Augustus interest in Greek literature and almost a hunger to understand and respect it.
From this description it felt more like admiration for Augustus attempting to understand what he did
not. Yet Suetonius then goes to discuss Augustus sensitivity and immense superstition. More time was
spent detailing his fears and strange behavior than depicting his interests in another culture. It almost
seemed as though Suetonius was mocking Augustus, showcasing someone that was interested in
everything Hellenistic yet who was also afraid to go out on certain days of the week. If his shoes were

But considering that Suetonius is a Roman historian, I believe that is safe to assume that it cannot be
trusted. The Greeks and Romans at the time had tension from past wars and disagreements. In Rome,
Greek wasn t a first language, if it had been Augustus would ve known it. For if he had occasion to use
the language, he wrote what he had to say in Latin and gave it to someone else to translate (Suetonius
89). This seems to prove that the first language learned by the Romans was Latin not Greek, meaning
that Greek culture came second to Roman culture. Greek culture wasn t a priority. So when
considering whether these accounts are real, it s debatable for two reasons. One, the accounts may be
real in the sense that Suetonius is depicting through his own narrative how Romans view anyone who
is interested in Greek culture. They might seem simple minded and fickle, the way that he seems to
describe Augustus. The second reason being that these events could be untrue; Augustus could have
had a few small superstitions that Suetonius merely exaggerated because of his potential disapproval
of his interest in Greek culture. This would mean that August was curious about Greek culture and the
world around him but it was presented to us in a negative way. Personally, because the examples of
Augustus worries seemed to be exaggerated, coupled with Suetonius being a Roman historian, I do not
trust his account of Augustus completely. I believe that Augustus was curious but not too curious for
his own

Advantages And Disadvantages Of Video Game Therapy
Video Game Therapy
People choose many ways to learn how to deal with life. Life can be either difficult at times or easy.
The same idea can be applied to video games. Playing online games taught me patience, how to
interact with other people around the world and how to manage my stress.
Two factors in online games that can determine my interest are drop rates and game difficulty. A drop
rate is the probability or ratio that determines how much more or how much less an item will become
available from an enemy in a game. The drop rate for some items can be miniscule. When I played
Final Fantasy IX ten years ago, I had to kill a monster called a leech for an item that had a low drop
rate. Because of the low drop rate, it took me six hours to obtain ... Show more content on

Sometimes I just want to sit down and tune out everything around me, turn down the sound effects,
and listen to the music in the game. It calms me, and I forget about my problems for a while. It is a
stress reliever, and I also get an adrenaline rush from challenging fights. When an enemy is tough and
causes widespread area damage, every minute step or evasive direction I choose to make could be
fatal. Some people quit, I choose to persevere until I win. The feeling when I accomplish something so
difficult makes the task worth it. Because I am stationed overseas, I do not get to spend time with my
family back in the states, and it causes stress. Online games are a great way to still keep in touch with
them. Recently I started playing with my brother, although our time differences make it difficult. I also
bond with my wife by playing video games. Socializing with others is enjoyable, but finding
something that I can share with my significant other helps us manage relationship stress. I try to
update her equipment in order for her to fully enjoy all that the game has to offer, and that in itself
makes me happy.
In conclusion, playing online games over the years has taught me how to persevere through tough
times. Even though I live in another country, I will not let language barriers keep me from enjoying
my time here. Life is annoying, and I am glad I found something that I can share with my significant

U.s. Federal Reserve Act Essay
Using Sources A, B, and C and your own knowledge account for the founding of the U.S. Federal
Reserve and analyze how its role in economic policy has developed since then.
In the late 1800s and early 1900s the United States experienced numerous banking panics ultimately
leading to a massive crisis in 1907 which would motivate Congress to pass the Federal Reserve Act.
President Woodrow Wilson would sign the act in December of 1913 (McBride Sergie, 2015). The
Federal Reserve would mean a centralized banking system for the United States.
This was not the first attempt at centralized banking, Alexander Hamilton, the first Treasury secretary,
expressed that a national bank would stabilize the new governments shaky credit and support a
stronger economy. Hamilton faced opposition, primarily from the South, where lawmakers assumed a
central bank would be beneficial only to the North. Hamilton would have his way and Congress would
establish the Frist Bank of the United States in 1791. In 1811, the bank s charter would expire and
Congress would refuse to renew it by just one vote (Irwin, 2013). The Second Bank of the US would
be necessary in 1816 as a result of the War of 1812. President Madison would realize that it would be
too hard to fight a war without a national bank to fund the government. Again, in 1836, Andrew
Jackson would be in office and see to the demise of the Second Bank.
This was an era when anyone could print money, and they would. It would become clear

Modern Day Heroes Essay
Modern day heroes can be very important. These heroes importance on americans is that they help us,
the people in many different ways like physically and mentally/ vocally. These heroes empower
common people to do better. these heroes importance to the world is greatest, they help us to be better
(and make the world better) and learn from them. So with these three thing Modern day Heroes better
our world and we would be nothing without them.
To explain my point, The importance of modern day heroes on Americans are they help us. In passage
1 there s a modern day hero named Betty Ford, Betty was the first lady and she had breast cancer.
Betty opened up about her cancer and told lady s to be safe and check to to see if they are ok. Betty
Ford in a way helped the people physically by making them go to the doctor, this could have saved
people they could have caught the cancer before it was too late. According to Betty Ford: A New Kind
of First Lady Checkups increased by 300 to 400 percent . I put this quote to show how Betty Ford is
so inspiring she had womans wanted to be sure they were alright and there s a good chance some of
those people in that percent might have had breast cancer, so Betty Ford might have just saved there
life. Modern day heroes affect Americans mentally/ vocally by speaking up and taking a stand. In
passage 2 the author spoke up about violence by involving modern day heroes. Jonah Goldberg (THE
AUTHOR) stood up for this one girl named Laura who got in

The 1980s Research Paper
The 1980s was a time where a lot of change took place. Some of these changes were pretty quirky
including the movies, music, fashion, and politics of the time. Most people were ready for something
different and that is what the 1980s presented. It became eccentric with music and fashion from
Madonna and Cyndi Lauper, bands like Guns n Roses and Metallica, Reagan s changes to the
economy, Nintendo, and bright colors and big hair. The impact of this decade continues on in today s
society. There are school dances oriented towards this decade, the music of the 1980s time can still be

Nike Case Study
In 1964, college track athlete Phil Knight and his coach Bill Bowerman started Blue Ribbon Sports, a
distribution company for what are known today as Asics shoes. In 1971, Blue Ribbon Sports began
designing and selling their own shoes and changed their name to Nike. Nike is no stranger to bad press
and highlighted in a 2014 Business Insider article written by Lara O Reilly, she mentions a few of the
bold moves they made over the years that have garnered attention, starting with the change of their
name. Another controversial move they made was with their slogan, Just Do It , which was admittedly
inspired by the last words of a serial killer right before his execution. Furthermore, they also endorsed
their first professional athlete who was nicknamed the Bucharest Buffoon because of his scandalous
reputation. Phil Knight has been quoted as saying, It doesn t matter how many people you offend, as
long as you re getting your message to your consumers... In this submission, I will explain how Nike
came to its sweatshop scandal situation through its expansion strategy, the positive and negative
impacts of this strategy, how Nike responded to this situation, how the company could have responded
differently, and what would the consequences have been as a result.

Important Aspects Of A Functioning Classroom
Through this past semester, we have heavily discussed the important aspects of a functioning
classroom, from different theorists to helpful teaching techniques. We ve debated what it means to be
a great teacher. There are quite a few flaws in our education system today, but I believe most of the
theories we discussed could be accorporated much more in the classroom. John Dewey, Friedrich
Froebel, Maria Montessori, and Lev Vygotsky all understood the way children think and the
importance of imaginative play. They also understood that children need to be active in nature. Also,
we have discussed different forms of learning, such as project based learning, and outdoor classrooms.
In my opinion, the education system should have minor changes that benefit the students more.
Despite the various flaws, schools are extremely important for students especially on a social stand
point. They can be around children their own age and interact in various scenarios. Socializing is
important for children of all ages, it helps them develop listening skills, communication skills, how to
share, how to work in groups, and compromise. Every interaction a child has is a learning experience.
They learn what is right or wrong and how to communicate appropriately, social interaction plays a
key role in cognitive development. Lev Vygotsky was a cognitive theorist who believed social
interaction and imaginative play were critical in child development. Imaginative play is actually a
complex process

Accounting Scandals And Enron Accounting Scandal
Introduction:
In this research paper I will be examining accounting scandals, specifically the Enron Accounting
Scandal. First, I will be exploring the history of Enron. Then I will be going into further depth on what
accounting issues Enron faced and then I will be explaining what a derivative is. Finally yet
importantly, I will consider the different types of Accounting Fraud following a conclusion.
Accounting Scandals are born due to collective greed and corporate arrogance. In the case of Enron
there was a lot of euphoria before the downfall. Stock prices soared and Enron was seen as one of the
most innovative companies in the world. However, things seemed too good to be true. Eventually the
company was exposed for its wrongdoing which led to the collapse. Many more of such cases were
exposed during the 2008/2009 recession such as the Lehmann Brothers scandal. As mentioned earlier,
many financial scandals have happened in the past but none of those are nearly as bad as the scandals
when it gets to trading in derivatives.
Summary of the Enron Accounting Scandal:
In the year of 1985 after the federal deregulation of natural gas pipelines, Enron was born. The
company was formed by merging the following two companies: Houston Natural Gas and InterNorth,
a Nebraska pipeline company.
In the process of the merger, Enron incurred massive debt and, as the result of deregulation, no longer
had exclusive

TJX the largest-ever consumer data breach Essay
TJX SECURITY BREACH MGSC 6201 02
INDUSTRY/COMPANY CONTEXT:
TJX Companies, based in Framingham, MA, was a major participant in the discount fashion and retail
industry. The TJX brand had presence in the United States as well as in Canada and Europe. In mid
2005, investigators were made aware of serious security breaches experienced in TJX s credit card
system. These breaches were first found at a Marshall s located in St Paul, MN in which the hackers
implemented a war driving tactic to steal customer credit card information. This incident resulted in
over 46 million debt and credit card numbers being compromised and is considered to be the largest
security breach in US history. The security breach at TJX resulted in major members ... Show more

Also, in 2007 it was revealed that TJX stored both credit card numbers and expiration date
information together in its system.
ISSUES
Non Compliance: WPA was required by PCI DSS, storing credit card numbers and expiration date
information violated standards as well
Reporting: Never acknowledged any of this in financial statements/reports
RESPONSE
CIO decided to run risk of being compromised by sticking with outdated technology (WEP)
LIABILITY/RESPONSIBILITY: One of the key issues is who should be held liable for the breaches?
With so many parties involved in the credit card payment process, it s difficult to define a certain
group solely responsible.
ISSUE
Lack of Legal Standards: no existing laws stating who should bear burden
RESPONSE
Issues were to be handled legislatively, but process is long and drawn out
Technology evolving faster than legislation
INCENTIVES/CONSUMER BEHAVIOR: Consumers were seemingly unaware of data breaching
technology being implemented.
ISSUE
Lack of awareness: difficult for stores to charge higher prices in order to provide better security
(customers showed no change in preferences)
SOLUTION
Played a role in TJX opting not to abide by certain PCI DSS standards as sales continued to grow
despite these breaches.
Looking at recommendations I would make, it s important that management first recognize the
function of cybersecurity in their overall business structure. They must maintain ongoing interactions

The Life of Amelia Earhart
Amelia Earhart endures as one of the more endearing characters in American history. In a time when
women played a largely secondary role in American, Amelia Earhart took a leading position in the
developing field of aviation and, in doing so; she displayed an adventurous spirit that proved to be
inspirational for several generations of Americans. Earhart was born in Atchison, Kansas on July 24,
1897. Her father, Edwin, was an attorney and her mother, Amy, was a housewife. She had one sister,
Muriel, with whom she was very close. After high school, Earhart worked as a nurse s aide in
Philadelphia and briefly studied pre med at Columbia before moving to California. While in California
Amelia became interested in aviation and she began taking flying lessons. Through the financial
assistance of her sister, Muriel, and her mother, Amelia was able to purchase her first airplane in 1922.
Amelia eventually returned to the East Coast where she worked as a social worker. During this time
she met her husband, George Putnam, who at the time was employed as a publisher. Through Putnam
s contacts Earhart was able to obtain a seat as a passenger on a transatlantic flight across the Atlantic
Ocean and, in the process, become the first women to cross the Atlantic by air. This achievement
brought Amelia into the public eye and the publication of her book about her adventures, 20 Hours 40
Minutes, reinforced her accomplishments and her notoriety. Through Putnam s journalistic

Evidence-Based Training for Physical Therapists
Strategies to facilitate the implementation of evidence based physical therapy should emphasis on
amending the barriers known in previous studies and confirmed in the future study. Certain solutions
may be easy, such as improving access to journals, providing easily understandable summaries and
training therapists in searching and appraisal (Iles Davidson 2006).
A current systematic review (Coomarasamy Khan 2005) recommends that clinically integrated
evidence based practice training is more effective than training alone. Education should be designed
towards proficient use of online resources, aiming sources of pre appraised literature (Iles Davidson
2006).
Physical therapists must regularly involve in self reflection and appraisal to be clear about the nature
and contribution of their expertise and decisions. This practice encompasses an acknowledgement of
practice preferences and behaviors that have developed throughout the years, knowledge gaps that
benefited from further training or education, enable the changing barriers in their approach to client
management (Jewell 2011). For the moment, evidence must be located and evaluated and its findings
interpreted into expressive information that all spouses in the decision making process can appreciate
(American Physical Therapy Association 2001). This incorporation process may be emphasizing
minimized bias on high quality evidence. Subsequently, both clinicians and clients increase the

Symptoms And Treatment Of Cancer Patients
1.Introduction:
The numbers of people who are dying due to crucial diseases such as cancer have increased, according
to world health organization (WHO) cited in Jane et al (2008), in
2005, 7.6 million people died from cancer, a figure expected to increase to 9 million people by 2015 ,
and increasing further to 11.4 million dying in 2030. Therefore, scientists have attempted to find
appropriate solution for those problems. Since the nineteenth century, solutions have been introduced
by scientists, that use radiation for the diagnosis of diseases instead of surgery (Pope, 1999), which

2.1.1 Charged particle: This type interacts directly with matter, which can be

Beta particle:Most radioactive nucleuses are not stable. Therefore, they start

This is emitted by radioactive nucleus, the atomic mass number of radioactive nucleus

Thus, z= is atomic mass number of radioactive nucleus

X= is radioactive nucleus before emitting

The Cuisine Of Hokkaido, Japan
1.0 Introduction
1.1 Introduction
This report introduces the regional cuisine of Hokkaido, Japan. The food of Hokkaido is well known
worldwide because of its high quality and freshness of seafood. Hokkaido also produces dominant
amounts of Japan s meat, wheat and dairy so its cuisine is not just a thing entirely apart from the rest
of Japan s. There are many regional cuisine in Hokkaido including Genghis Khan barbecue, Hokkaido
ramen, Ishikari nabe and so on. Through my research, I find that there are many different cooking
methods that people in Hokkaido use. For example, originally, Genghis Khan barbecue only focuses
on burning and roast lamb and mutton. With more and more southern Japanese into Hokkaido, the
sauce and vegetables are gradually brought into the cuisine to adjust taste. I also find these cooking
methods are interesting, and would like to learn more about the Hokkaido cuisine.

Ancient people in Hokkaido are believed to catch salmon when they swam upstream. They are also
believed to use pots to cook acorn and plants. From 1603 to 1867, Russian and missions from other
countries arrived at Hokkaido but they were not allowed to enter. After 1869, the Meiji government

These trucks compete for roughly 300,000 parking spots located throughout the country. While
parked, especially in locations of extreme hot or cold, these trucks are typically found idling while the
driver is resting. In addition to being a home away from home for the truck drivers, they idle for a
variety of reasons. These include keeping the fuel and engine warm, for the driver s resting comfort, to
mask out other noises, and for safety (Keller). Unfortunately, while they are idling, the engine is
consuming diesel fuel at a time when oil prices are at their highest. It has been calculated that every
hour a truck idles unnecessarily is equivalent to 8 10 miles of on road driving (Keller). Although it is
necessary for the drivers to idle, it has been a major concern in terms of wasted fuel within the
trucking industry, costing them 3 billion gallons of fuel every year.
Several different technologies have been introduced to combat the wasted fuel and reduce or eliminate
truck idling times. One such advancement is an electrified parking space (EPS) for the drivers. The
electrified parking space allows the driver a parking spot (for rest, sleep, etc.) and an oversized power
cord that allows the truck to plug into electric grids to power their cabins. This enables a clean energy
source from the power grid, and reduces the driver s need to

Milkman And Hagar Essay
1.1. Milkman s lover Hagar
At the same time as Milkman has less air for breathing at home, he gets to know his cousin Hagar and

brother, Mama. They cousins , Pilate counters, I mean what s the difference in the way you act toward
em? Don t you have to act the same way to both? (Morrison 54). This first encounter sets the basis of
Hagar s and Milkman s relationship. Pilate makes clear that family is family no matter the degree of
kinship. Accordingly, Pilate tries to predetermine how Hagar should regard her cousin and this
conversely reveals the incestuous nature of Milkman and Hagar s coming relationship.
Notwithstanding, Morrison writes that From the first time he saw her, when he was twelve and she

For the first years, Hagar does not pay much attention to Milkman and he perceived her as a distant

time, their relationship changes and Milkman realizes that he no longer feels attracted to her. From
this moment forth, Hagar makes Milkman the center of her life by becoming the active since Milkman
no longer chases her (Qasim and Asmat 193). Apparently Milkman loses interest when he seems to
own her. Interestingly, this relationship is primarily depicted as a physical one. This directly results in
the fact that Milkman s interest is primarily of a sexual nature, but does not truly love or value her. So
it is not surprising that, instead of recognizing true love, he describes Hagar as the third beer. Not the
first one, which the throat receives with almost tearful gratitude; nor the second, that confirms and
extends the pleasure of the first. But the third, the one you drink because it s there, because it can t

  • 2. The Power Of Choice In Brian Doyle s Joyas Voladoras From hummingbirds nimbly flying over flowers to humming women quietly walking through the park, Brian Doyle s essay, Joyas Voladoras, brings light to the power of choice in relation to human experience and emotion. Doyle displays this power of choice through vivid descriptions of two animals: a hummingbird and a blue whale, two seemingly different organisms. However, instead of focusing on the obvious disparities of the animals, Doyle concentrates on what makes them similar, the heart. Both the hummingbird and blue whale have hearts, but they use their hearts in drastically different ways, one heart being the smallest and another being the largest in the world. Contrary to the beliefs of science and evolution, Doyle believes that humans are not so different from these two creatures, because, no living being is without interior liquid motion. We all churn inside (3). Suddenly, the essay transforms from a National Geographic journal to a heartfelt message that connects all of the human race. Doyle dives into how the heart experiences so many emotions and ideas throughout a human life. Knowing that the heart is a delicate jewel, Doyle demonstrates that, all hearts finally are bruised and scarred, scored and torn, repaired by time and will, patched by force of character, yet fragile and rickety forevermore (3). Doyle understands that many individuals try to defend their hearts and protect them from any harm, but those hearts will eventually be hurt and injured in a ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

A significant portion of those overdue bad loans will cause the rapid rise in the Non Performing Loans (NPL) ratio for financial institutions, resulting in a serious erosion of profit, and causing a chain reaction of bankruptcy and escalated financial crisis. The century old Lehman Brothers declared bankruptcy in 2008 which caused a domino effect, not only hitting the U.S. economy, but also triggering a global financial tsunami. Such disaster may be explained by the fact that banks recently owns excessive amount of poor credits which may be the result of highly competitive banking environment and reckless credit imprudence, even reaching an alarming level in bank s NPL ratios. In order to correct this problem, the banking industry must make prudent and cautious decisions in the beginning of loan auditing process and also recognize the dynamic fact that credit status is not static. It shifts greatly throughout the life span of the loan credit. The change is more dramatic especially in the case of past due or non performing loans. Only when banking institutions are fully aware of the dynamic nature of credit status can the banking institutions avoid making the same mistake again. This paper focuses on the study of the shifting probability of credit status of past due or non performing loans. In this study, the samples are selected based on the number of different credit ... • 4. The Importance Of Being An Educated Person School provides a place for mental, physical, and ethical development. Character is taught and learned in many settings: in the classroom, in the hallways, in the lunchroom, and on the sports field As, Diane Ravitch stated in her essay The Essentials Of A Good Education . So, now I wonder what does it mean to be an educated person. Well, today I am going to give you an explanation of what it means to be an educated person in my own opinion. I will also be narrating one particular experience from my own life which lead me to the conclusion of this term. My experience is in reference to my job; which has made me expand my knowledge. Further more this made me the educated individual I am today. (Ravitch 111,112). In my early adolescence I considered education being just solely a term referring to public high school and college classes. I was taught in order to have a good future I had to graduate from both and land a good paying job. So, due to this expectation of graduating from college; I always would and look up to people with a degree. I classified anyone else with out a degree into a category who was beneath someone who had a college education. This speculation that any one with out a degree was stupid was later proved wrong. After, I had a first hand experience I was able to understand the importance of real life situations. The interesting thing about my development as an individual; I am constantly able to learn new skills as long as I have an open mind. This leads ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. Government And Law In Reformation Theology . The Protestant Government and Law in Reformation Theology The Protestant Reformation s initiation through Martin Luther s criticism of the Catholic Church with his Ninety Five Theses brought about a united front of Huldrych Zwingli, John Calvin, and Martin Luther and their attempts to reform the Catholic Church, all of whom eventually split from the Church and started their own religious movements. As the Reformation movement flourished under each leader, their theological differences eventually split the movements apart drastically, their differences eventually turning into a massive feud between Zwingli and Luther, each declaring the other as a heretic [1]. Of their many differences, their opinions on the relationship between religion and the state ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Calvin had a very similar viewpoint to Zwingli s beliefs on the authority of the church and state, with some slight differences regarding the level of importance placed upon the church. In agreement with Zwingli, Calvin affirmed that if it be his pleasure to appoint kings over kingdoms, and senators or other magistrates over free cities, it is our duty to be obedient to any governors whom God has established over the places in which we reside [3]. While Zwingli placed more of a balance upon the relationship between the state and church, Calvin asserted that the state only held authority as a direct result of the church, the authority directly approved of by God. In his view, any influential entities within the state only held their influence under God. Calvin first pushed for his theology to be implemented after writing Institutes of the Christian Religion, attempting to reform the religious life within Geneva, Switzerland for two years until he and a contemporary, William Farel refused to adopt religious practices enforced in other parts of Switzerland. Calvin escaped the city under persecution, only to return in 1541 once the council of Geneva had finally agreed to implement his previous reforms under the diminishing influence of the church there. His Ecclesiastical Ordinances were implemented in the city except for the most significant aspect, the Consistory. The Consistory was ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 6. The Indian Act and residential school The Indian Act of 1876 and many of its amending statutes contained sections that were discriminatory towards Canadian Native Indians, and that legalized suppression of Indian customs and traditions. In this paper, I will examine how one section of the Act, the one relating to residential schools, contributed to the genocide of Indian culture. Ever since the first Europeans set foot on Canadian soil in the 15th century, they have thought their culture and way of life was superior to that of the Native North Americans. Initially the Europeans relied upon the Indians to show them how to travel and survive in the wilds of Canada. They also were dependent on Indians as trading partners and as military allies. However, as more settlers arrived ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... At the same time, those teachers tried to instill the white man s ways into them. The whole concept of teaching in the residential schools was countering the traditional native lifestyle. Native children had always learned through interacting with, emulating, and observing their parents and elders. There was no structured educational system as there was in the schools. Parents thought that you ...don t [want to] explain too much or you ll take away the opportunity to learn. (Goulet, 1998) Discipline was another philosophy foreign to the Aboriginal peoples of Canada. Native parents would let their children discover how to go about doing things by making mistakes on their own. If a child tried something and it did not work out, the child would suffer the natural consequences of their error and try to find a better way next time. The entire concept of striking a child was completely unheard of and was thought to be extremely inappropriate and unnecessary. At both Mopass and the Ontario school, these were common practices, as was starving children and taking away their privileges. King (1967), for example describes a situation: They starved us up there! We got one egg a year at Easter. The rest of the time we got dogfood mush [corn meal] and skim milk. Them in the staff dining room, though, they got bacon and eggs everyday. We never saw fruit from one Christmas to the next, but they sure had it. Why some of those kids just starved to death. • 8. The Power Of Money In The Great Gatsby The Power of Pennies Money is a power that comes with a price. In the 1920 s during the great depression, money was a huge issue, because of all the people losing their jobs. This caused people to do whatever they can to get it. In The Great Gatsby the characters suffer from a similar problem: They all want money, but not all of them have it. They then do whatever they have to do to climb to the top of the social ladder. In The Great Gatsby, Fitzgerald shows the motif money is power through the characters Daisy, Myrtle, and Gatsby. Daisy would suffer through any pain as long as she got to be rich. Gatsby conveys Daisy s lust for money when he says, Her voice is full of money (Fitzgerald 120). Daisy wants money more than anything else; even to the point that it shows in her voice and actions. Everything she does is meticulously planned around keeping her social status and access to money alive but not around her own happiness. She is even referred to as The king s daughter and The golden girl further showing her desire for money(Fitzgerald 120). Daisy perfectly shows how money can take control of life as it did to hers. Without her desire for money, Daisy would not have done most of the things she ended up doing in The Great Gatsby. Daisy will be shaped forever by the crude force of Tom s money (Jr. Leland S). To Daisy, the force of money is so strong that she will allow others to control how she lives just to obtain its power. Even though Tom is the one who has ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Firstly, Augusta Ada King Noel, known as the Countess of Lovelace was an English Mathematician and writer during the 19th century. Born in London on the 10th December 1815, she was the only true child of the poet Lord Byron and Anne Isabella Milbanke (his wife) as all of his other children were born to other women who were not married to Byron. Lord Byron left England shortly after Ada s birth and eventually died in the Greek war of Independence 8 years later. Due to her late husband s actions Ada s mother decided to promote mathematics and writing to Ada to help prevent her getting the insanity Anne believed Lord Byron had suffered from. Later, in 1835 Ada married William King, who three years later became Earl of Lovelace, giving Ada her title of Countess of Lovelace . After furthering her education with scientists such as: Andrew Crosse and Sir David Brewster, as well as author Charles Dickens to become an Analyst, she met fellow British mathematician Charles Babbage through her private tutor. David Ricardo s principle of comparative advantage argues while nations involved in international trade, a country will become specialised in producing a product that has the lowest relative costs. (Economist, 2015) By focusing on the production onto a limited scope of product or industries, firms or the nation will experience rise in productivity due to higher efficiency in allocation and utilisation of resources. As the process of specialisation will cause reallocation of other less efficient resources, nations, as a result, will import products that are less efficiently produced from other countries. While different nations specialising in different goods and services, a greater variety and cheaper products will become available for consumption, improving the quality and quantity of consumption by all nations. To determine whether developing nations are experiencing disadvantage in the international trade, it requires a careful examination with Porter s Diamond factor endowments. It analysis a nation s competitiveness under four categories: factor endowments, demand condition, related and supporting industries and firm strategy, structure and rivalry. • 19. Augustus Superstition Suetonius describes Augustus in a negative light. At first it didn t seem that way. The Roman historian touched on Augustus interest in Greek literature and almost a hunger to understand and respect it. From this description it felt more like admiration for Augustus attempting to understand what he did not. Yet Suetonius then goes to discuss Augustus sensitivity and immense superstition. More time was spent detailing his fears and strange behavior than depicting his interests in another culture. But considering that Suetonius is a Roman historian, I believe that is safe to assume that it cannot be trusted. The Greeks and Romans at the time had tension from past wars and disagreements. In Rome, Greek wasn t a first language, if it had been Augustus would ve known it. For if he had occasion to use the language, he wrote what he had to say in Latin and gave it to someone else to translate (Suetonius 89). This seems to prove that the first language learned by the Romans was Latin not Greek, meaning that Greek culture came second to Roman culture. Greek culture wasn t a priority. So when considering whether these accounts are real, it s debatable for two reasons. One, the accounts may be real in the sense that Suetonius is depicting through his own narrative how Romans view anyone who is interested in Greek culture. They might seem simple minded and fickle, the way that he seems to describe Augustus. The second reason being that these events could be untrue; Augustus could have had a few small superstitions that Suetonius merely exaggerated because of his potential disapproval of his interest in Greek culture. This would mean that August was curious about Greek culture and the world around him but it was presented to us in a negative way. Personally, because the examples of Augustus worries seemed to be exaggerated, coupled with Suetonius being a Roman historian, I do not trust his account of Augustus completely. Federal Reserve Act Essay Using Sources A, B, and C and your own knowledge account for the founding of the U.S. Federal Reserve and analyze how its role in economic policy has developed since then. In the late 1800s and early 1900s the United States experienced numerous banking panics ultimately leading to a massive crisis in 1907 which would motivate Congress to pass the Federal Reserve Act. President Woodrow Wilson would sign the act in December of 1913 (McBride Sergie, 2015). The Federal Reserve would mean a centralized banking system for the United States. This was not the first attempt at centralized banking, Alexander Hamilton, the first Treasury secretary, expressed that a national bank would stabilize the new governments shaky credit and support a stronger economy. Hamilton faced opposition, primarily from the South, where lawmakers assumed a central bank would be beneficial only to the North. In 1811, the bank s charter would expire and Congress would refuse to renew it by just one vote (Irwin, 2013). The Second Bank of the US would be necessary in 1816 as a result of the War of 1812. • 26. Important Aspects Of A Functioning Classroom Through this past semester, we have heavily discussed the important aspects of a functioning classroom, from different theorists to helpful teaching techniques. We ve debated what it means to be a great teacher. There are quite a few flaws in our education system today, but I believe most of the theories we discussed could be accorporated much more in the classroom. John Dewey, Friedrich Froebel, Maria Montessori, and Lev Vygotsky all understood the way children think and the importance of imaginative play. They also understood that children need to be active in nature. Also, we have discussed different forms of learning, such as project based learning, and outdoor classrooms. In my opinion, the education system should have minor changes that benefit the students more. Despite the various flaws, schools are extremely important for students especially on a social stand point. They can be around children their own age and interact in various scenarios. Socializing is important for children of all ages, it helps them develop listening skills, communication skills, how to share, how to work in groups, and compromise. Every interaction a child has is a learning experience. They learn what is right or wrong and how to communicate appropriately, social interaction plays a key role in cognitive development. First, I will be exploring the history of Enron. Then I will be going into further depth on what accounting issues Enron faced and then I will be explaining what a derivative is. Finally yet importantly, I will consider the different types of Accounting Fraud following a conclusion. Accounting Scandals are born due to collective greed and corporate arrogance. In the case of Enron there was a lot of euphoria before the downfall. Stock prices soared and Enron was seen as one of the most innovative companies in the world. However, things seemed too good to be true. Eventually the company was exposed for its wrongdoing which led to the collapse. Many more of such cases were exposed during the 2008/2009 recession such as the Lehmann Brothers scandal. As mentioned earlier, many financial scandals have happened in the past but none of those are nearly as bad as the scandals when it gets to trading in derivatives. Summary of the Enron Accounting Scandal: In the year of 1985 after the federal deregulation of natural gas pipelines, Enron was born. TJX the largest-ever consumer data breach Essay TJX SECURITY BREACH MGSC 6201 02 INDUSTRY/COMPANY CONTEXT: TJX Companies, based in Framingham, MA, was a major participant in the discount fashion and retail industry. The TJX brand had presence in the United States as well as in Canada and Europe. In mid 2005, investigators were made aware of serious security breaches experienced in TJX s credit card system. These breaches were first found at a Marshall s located in St Paul, MN in which the hackers implemented a war driving tactic to steal customer credit card information. This incident resulted in over 46 million debt and credit card numbers being compromised and is considered to be the largest security breach in US history. Also, in 2007 it was revealed that TJX stored both credit card numbers and expiration date information together in its system. ISSUES Non Compliance: WPA was required by PCI DSS, storing credit card numbers and expiration date information violated standards as well Reporting: Never acknowledged any of this in financial statements/reports RESPONSE CIO decided to run risk of being compromised by sticking with outdated technology (WEP) LIABILITY/RESPONSIBILITY: One of the key issues is who should be held liable for the breaches? With so many parties involved in the credit card payment process, it s difficult to define a certain group solely responsible. ISSUE Lack of Legal Standards: no existing laws stating who should bear burden RESPONSE Issues were to be handled legislatively, but process is long and drawn out Technology evolving faster than legislation INCENTIVES/CONSUMER BEHAVIOR: Consumers were seemingly unaware of data breaching technology being implemented. ISSUE Lack of awareness: difficult for stores to charge higher prices in order to provide better security (customers showed no change in preferences) SOLUTION Played a role in TJX opting not to abide by certain PCI DSS standards as sales continued to grow despite these breaches. Looking at recommendations I would make, it s important that management first recognize the function of cybersecurity in their overall business structure. They must maintain ongoing interactions ... • 30. The Life of Amelia Earhart Amelia Earhart endures as one of the more endearing characters in American history. In a time when women played a largely secondary role in American, Amelia Earhart took a leading position in the developing field of aviation and, in doing so; she displayed an adventurous spirit that proved to be inspirational for several generations of Americans. Earhart was born in Atchison, Kansas on July 24, 1897. Her father, Edwin, was an attorney and her mother, Amy, was a housewife. She had one sister, Muriel, with whom she was very close. After high school, Earhart worked as a nurse s aide in Philadelphia and briefly studied pre med at Columbia before moving to California. While in California Amelia became interested in aviation and she began taking flying lessons. Through the financial assistance of her sister, Muriel, and her mother, Amelia was able to purchase her first airplane in 1922. Amelia eventually returned to the East Coast where she worked as a social worker. During this time she met her husband, George Putnam, who at the time was employed as a publisher. Through Putnam s contacts Earhart was able to obtain a seat as a passenger on a transatlantic flight across the Atlantic Ocean and, in the process, become the first women to cross the Atlantic by air. This achievement brought Amelia into the public eye and the publication of her book about her adventures, 20 Hours 40 Minutes, reinforced her accomplishments and her notoriety. Evidence-Based Training for Physical Therapists Strategies to facilitate the implementation of evidence based physical therapy should emphasis on amending the barriers known in previous studies and confirmed in the future study. Certain solutions may be easy, such as improving access to journals, providing easily understandable summaries and training therapists in searching and appraisal (Iles Davidson 2006). A current systematic review (Coomarasamy Khan 2005) recommends that clinically integrated evidence based practice training is more effective than training alone. Education should be designed towards proficient use of online resources, aiming sources of pre appraised literature (Iles Davidson 2006). Physical therapists must regularly involve in self reflection and appraisal to be clear about the nature and contribution of their expertise and decisions. This practice encompasses an acknowledgement of practice preferences and behaviors that have developed throughout the years, knowledge gaps that benefited from further training or education, enable the changing barriers in their approach to client management (Jewell 2011). For the moment, evidence must be located and evaluated and its findings interpreted into expressive information that all spouses in the decision making process can appreciate (American Physical Therapy Association 2001). This incorporation process may be emphasizing minimized bias on high quality evidence. Subsequently, both clinicians and clients increase the subjectivity in their decision ... Symptoms And Treatment Of Cancer Patients 1.Introduction: The numbers of people who are dying due to crucial diseases such as cancer have increased, according to world health organization (WHO) cited in Jane et al (2008), in 2005, 7.6 million people died from cancer, a figure expected to increase to 9 million people by 2015 , and increasing further to 11.4 million dying in 2030. Therefore, scientists have attempted to find appropriate solution for those problems. Since the nineteenth century, solutions have been introduced by scientists, that use radiation for the diagnosis of diseases instead of surgery (Pope, 1999), which has led to great advances in medicine because diagnostic technology such as CT and X rays scanning, nuclear medicine (PET) and mammography, ... The food of Hokkaido is well known worldwide because of its high quality and freshness of seafood. Hokkaido also produces dominant amounts of Japan s meat, wheat and dairy so its cuisine is not just a thing entirely apart from the rest of Japan s. There are many regional cuisine in Hokkaido including Genghis Khan barbecue, Hokkaido ramen, Ishikari nabe and so on. Through my research, I find that there are many different cooking methods that people in Hokkaido use. For example, originally, Genghis Khan barbecue only focuses on burning and roast lamb and mutton. With more and more southern Japanese into Hokkaido, the sauce and vegetables are gradually brought into the cuisine to adjust taste. I also find these cooking methods are interesting, and would like to learn more about the Hokkaido cuisine. These trucks compete for roughly 300,000 parking spots located throughout the country. While parked, especially in locations of extreme hot or cold, these trucks are typically found idling while the driver is resting. In addition to being a home away from home for the truck drivers, they idle for a variety of reasons. These include keeping the fuel and engine warm, for the driver s resting comfort, to mask out other noises, and for safety (Keller). Unfortunately, while they are idling, the engine is consuming diesel fuel at a time when oil prices are at their highest. It has been calculated that every hour a truck idles unnecessarily is equivalent to 8 10 miles of on road driving (Keller). Although it is necessary for the drivers to idle, it has been a major concern in terms of wasted fuel within the trucking industry, costing them 3 billion gallons of fuel every year. Several different technologies have been introduced to combat the wasted fuel and reduce or eliminate truck idling times. One such advancement is an electrified parking space (EPS) for the drivers. The electrified parking space allows the driver a parking spot (for rest, sleep, etc.) and an oversized power cord that allows the truck to plug into electric grids to power their cabins. This enables a clean energy source from the power grid, and reduces the driver s need to ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 39. Milkman And Hagar Essay 1.1. Milkman s lover Hagar At the same time as Milkman has less air for breathing at home, he gets to know his cousin Hagar and is introduced to her as a brother. Although Reba corrects her mother Pilate by saying, That ain t her brother, Mama. They cousins , Pilate counters, I mean what s the difference in the way you act toward em? Don t you have to act the same way to both? (Morrison 54). This first encounter sets the basis of Hagar s and Milkman s relationship. Pilate makes clear that family is family no matter the degree of kinship. Accordingly, Pilate tries to predetermine how Hagar should regard her cousin and this conversely reveals the incestuous nature of Milkman and Hagar s coming relationship. For the first years, Hagar does not pay much attention to Milkman and he perceived her as a distant creature (113) while she views him as a puppy since she is the older of them (114). From this moment forth, Hagar makes Milkman the center of her life by becoming the active since Milkman no longer chases her (Qasim and Asmat 193). Apparently Milkman loses interest when he seems to own her. Interestingly, this relationship is primarily depicted as a physical one. This directly results in the fact that Milkman s interest is primarily of a sexual nature, but does not truly love or value her. So it is not surprising that, instead of recognizing true love, he describes Hagar as the third beer.
