3. The Cartesian Circle Essay
Descartes Cartesian Circle
Descartes Cartesian Circle has come under fire from countless philosophers because
it supposedly commits a logical fallacy with its circular reasoning. In his second
Meditation, Descartes attempts to prove the existence of God. He states that clear
and distinct perception leads to knowledge, and that God s existence is apparent and
obvious because of things we have come to perceive as knowledge. Furthermore, he
asserts that we cannot turn these perceptions into knowledge without the assurance
that God exists. Essentially, Descartes claims that God is a necessary condition for
knowledge, which in turn requires the existence of God. This circular logic presents a
problematic scenario similar to the chicken ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

In one publication James Van Cleve writes about a philosopher named Willis
Doney who advocates a solution to the Cartesian Circle called the Memory
Gambit. Doney s analysis reveals that Descartes says that if I remember clearly
and distinctly perceiving something that I do not now clearly and distinctly
perceive, I can be certain of it if and only if I know that God exists (Cleve, 56).
Doney proposes that an atheist can learn and ascertain knowledge about subjects
such as math if he clearly perceives them at the time. Whether or not he retains that
knowledge or is able to erase doubt regarding that knowledge is entirely dependent
on his comprehension of God s existence. Doney s interpretation therefore is that
the function of God is only to guarantee the accuracy of one s memory, rather than
regulate the transition from a perception to a piece of knowledge. In other words,
without a certainty that God exists, one is merely trapped in a moment, and can
only be certain of things perceived at any one given time. By denying one of the
premises that form the Cartesian Circle, it is possible to circumvent the logical
fallacy originally committed. Following in the steps of the first defense is one that
seeks to disprove Descartes second premise: in order to know that God exists, one
must first have a certainty that what they perceive is truly knowledge. Van Cleve
sheds some light on this by
4. Bottled Water Benefits
Do the Benefits of Bottled Water Outweigh the Costs? In a world where society has
the opportunity to access almost anything in an instant, quick access does not end
when it comes to food and beverages. Nowadays there is no waiting with options
like fast food, take home meals, and more specifically, bottled water. Despite a quick
and easy outlet to water from taps within homes, Americans purchased over 9 billion
gallons of water in 2011. This massive and productive industry continues to grow
each year by over 5% ( Bottled Water Pros and Cons ). The production of bottled
water, compared to tap, has many disadvantages including long term health issues,
damage to the environment, and expenses. Consequently, the benefits of bottled water

The use of bottled water is justified by its quick and efficient access; likewise,
disposing of plastic bottles is just as simple. Although, plastic bottles are not always
disposed of as they should be. When a water bottle is thrown away in a regular trash
can, it means the bottles are going to end up in landfills. Sarah Barnes, in her
article, The Effects of Not Recycling Water Bottles , states that conventional plastic
doesn t biodegrade, so the bottles sit in landfills indefinitely. Consequently, all of
the plastic bottles disposed of improperly will permanently have an effect on the
environment while lying in landfills. Barnes states that, Landfill waste contributes
to the production of methane, and too much methane in the atmosphere leads to the
greenhouse effect, which is linked to global warming. In addition to this, when a
plastic bottle is not recycled, water bottle companies are forced to produce more
plastic in masses. The article Bottled Water Pros and Cons shows that only one in
every five water bottles are actually recycled. The world does not see the necessity
to recycle plastic bottles, and this vicious cycle is taking a toil on the

In Maybe the Saddest Thing, Wicker writes exerts of dealing with pop culture s
energy, but it s also, and often at the same time, a reminder of the loneliness all our
culture, pop and not, has in trust. (Farmer,2012). He would write love letters to pop

perceived as real love letters and can seem like he is fantasizing about these people,
but in reality those were the pop icons of the time. In the poem of the eighth grade
boy, he describes that he was listening to Kenny G, and various different jazz
musicians. His father was outraged when he saw his son laying down with
6. How Did Fritz Haber Study Chemistry
Fritz Haber was born on December 9,1868 in Breslau Germany. He decided to
study chemistry at the University Of Berlin Under A.W. And At the school of
Charlottenburg Under Liebermann. Once he finished his University studies he
volunteered to work for his dad s Chemical business and he also got into Chemical
Technology. After a while Haber decided to take on a scientific career. He soon
went to work for one and a half years to work with Ludwig Knorr at Jena. After all
that he ended up getting confused and started to wonder if he still wanted a career

7. Ehrenhalt s Argument Analysis
I appreciated the way that Ehrenhalt began his argument by stating his social
security number, bold statement that made me pay attention. Personally, I tend to
fall in line with his thinking. We already provide social security cards to every
person in the United States along with a large amount of us having state issued
identification cards or driver s licenses. Therefore the cost of implementing a
national identification card does not seem to be out of reach. This is a very
complex topic with so many variables. Who would have access to the system?
Would it be used solely to track criminals in that way that DNA is used? What would
be the consequences for corruption by those who use it or the consequences for those
who hack its data?
8. Labrador Retrievers Essay
Amazing Facts You Never Know About Labrador Retrievers
Labrador Retrievers are one of the most popular dog breeds to be kept as pets.
They are considered as being in the class of sporting dogs, one that is generally used
to hunt upland game birds and waterfowl. Well known for their gentle and loving
behaviour and all the information on Labrador Retrievers will reiterate the fact that
they are a wonderfully calm dog.
Legend has it that Labrador has actually been around for numerous years and
commenced their life as assistance dogs to the fishermen in Newfoundland. During
the 1800 s these dogs were relied on by the fishermen to help them retrieve the nets
and also the fish. Labrador Retrievers have a distinct advantage over most other dog

They were being mainly used as gun dogs in the war. Gun dogs are a category of
dog breeds that are used to assist hunters to find and retrieve game, and the Labrador
Retrievers were especially useful for this because they are born with a natural knack
for retrieving.
There are 2 genes in Labrador Retrievers that decide the dog s colouring. The first
gene determines the real colour, yellow, black or brown; the second gene is in charge
of the pigmentation of the actual colouring of the dog s coat. It determines whether
the Labrador Retriever should be light yellow or a rich dark brown colour.
Yellow, Black and chocolate are not the only colors of Labrador retriever. Silver
Labradors are chocolate Labs with a dilution gene that makes their coat to be
lighter in color. Yellow and Black labs may also have these dilution genes, except
the difference in their coat color isn t as remarkable as it is with the chocolate.
Although, the idea of silver Labs is still controversial among breeders, as no kennel
clubs recognize it as an acceptable color. Still, some breeders passionately advocate
for silver Labs to be recognized and allowed to compete in
9. What Is Purpose Statement Of Purpose
Statement of Purpose
Environmental issues are not restricted to specific regions, but are global and this
makes tackling them even more difficult. Problems such as rising pollution levels,
climate change phenomena and resource depletion threaten to ruin our future if
unchecked. Water, soil and air pollution have been responsible for many illnesses
and fatalities all over the world. It has been estimated that approximately 12.6
million people died as a result of living or working in unhealthy environments.
Access to safe and clean energy is another challenge the world is facing today.
Many rural regions in India and many other countries still lack access to usable
energy. Since my early days in college, I have made an attempt to gain a deeper
understanding of these problems. My love and passion for the environment grew as I
kept learning and as a student of engineering, I was determined to come up with
solutions to these environmental challenges. This is what drove me towards the field
of Environmental Engineering.

India where water borne diseases contribute to around 22% of all illnesses. I am
very interested in the research being conducted by Dr. Gary Amy in the field of
water treatment. I am also interested in the research on sustainable water treatment
being carried out by Dr. Sudeep Popat. I believe that using an inter disciplinary

10. The Marshall Plan For The Cold War
How was the Marshall Plan decisive in the start of the cold war?
By: Karan Arora

A.Plan of Investigation
The Marshall Plan was an American initiative to aid Western Europe, in which the
United States gave $13 billion in economic support to help rebuild Western
European economies after the end of World War II. The plan was in operation for
four years beginning in April 1947. The goals of the United States were to rebuild
war devastated regions, remove trade barriers, modernize industry, and make Europe
prosperous again. It also aimed at promoting business in the United States by
providing a strong market for Europe. But Russian Historians believed that there was

(wikibooks). In a June 5, 1947, speech to the graduating class at Harvard
University, Secretary of State George C. Marshall issued a call for a
comprehensive program to rebuild Europe.(containment of Marshall plan). Due to
the fear of Communist expansion and the rapid deterioration of European
economies in the winter of 1946 1947, Congress passed the Economic Cooperation
Act in March 1948 and approved funding that would eventually rise to over $12
billion for the rebuilding of Western Europe.(history state) After Marshall s
announcement, three requirements in his proposal became essential for the U.S. as
the design of the recovery program developed.(UNH) First, the initiative must come
from Europe, it must be evolved in Europe, and Europeans must be held responsible
for it.(UNH) Second, the program must be collaborative and European nations must
form a coalition from which a comprehensive plan could be developed. And finally,
the program must be self sufficient (UNH) Officially initiated on April 3, 1948, the
Marshall Plan became the largest economic recovery effort in human history. Without
the economic aid provided by the Marshall Plan, it is questionable whether the
devastated countries of Europe could have recovered to where they are today.
Historians have taken a more critical position regarding the Marshall Plan s overall
legacy. The major aspect being questioned is the Marshall Plan s focus on Western
Europe, which critics claim contributed to the Cold War.(UNH)

A Sociological Study of Deviance: Oklahoma City Bombing
The Oklahoma City Bombing was a very special event in American history, it was
the biggest act of domestic terrorism until 9/11. The Alfred P. Murrah Federal
Building, which was an office complex in Oklahoma City, was bombed and 168
people were killed. Timothy McVeigh, the subject of my paper, was behind the
bombings, and later executed.
On April 15, 1995 Timothy McVeigh rented a Ryder truck in Herington, Kansas
under the alias Robert D. Kling. On April 16, he drove to Oklahoma City with fellow
conspirator Terry Nicholswhere he parked a getaway vehicle several blocks away

He wanted to get vengeance for the FBI/ATF s firebombing of a ranch in Waco,
Texas, that killed 79 civilians.
WHY DID TIMOTHY MCVEIGH DO THIS?
Timothy Mcveigh s personality can be explained sociologically as being both
ritualism and rebellion. Timothy McVeigh was part of what can be seen as the
pinnacle of conformism during the years before the bombing, the military.
McVeigh, by all accounts, was a soldier who won praise by taking orders very well
and following all the rules, his medals won during the Gulf War prove this.
However, like many other people who join the military (gang members, racial
nationalists, survivalists) Timothy McVeigh had perhaps not so patriotic motives
for joining. Nowadays people join the military for reasons other than because they
believe in a countries value system, people like McVeigh join for the military
training and knowledge of things like explosives, survival, discipline, etc. They in a
way use the system against itself. At face value Timothy McVeigh did follow the
means towards achieving societies goals, but he wanted nothing to do with the ends.
He saw himself as a freedom fighter whose destiny was to overthrow the US
Government.
McVeigh, before joining the military, already had a long history in the survivalist
movement. The Survivalist movement is well known by the federal government for
its anti government activities and beliefs, McVeigh shared these beliefs and was set
off after the
12. 6 Theoretical Perspectives In Psychology
According to (Pastorino, E. Doyle Portillo, 2012), psychology is defined as the
scientific study of behavior and mental processes. (pg. 3). Scientific study is done
by using the scientific method. The Scientific method is defined as a systematic
process used by psychologists for testing hypotheses about behavior. Behavior is
the way a person responses to an experience. This can be a physical or an
emotional response. The mental processes of people are studied by psychologists to
try and understand the mental reasoning behind the behavior of a person does after
an experience. In many parts of the world people were working in the area of
psychologybut hadn t realized that it was something different. Until 1879, people

This means that theories are studied repeatedly. The theories psychologists develop
are always based on research. Theories can be changed as new information is
discovered. Common sense is something that doesn t require in depth studies with the
scientific method. The six modern theoretical perspectives are evolutionary, cognitive,
psychodynamic, behavioral, sociocultural, and humanistic. Evolutionary perspective
believes in natural selection. This means that traits that will help you survive will
continue to onto new generations where other traits may no longer be passed on.
How the human mind process the information and influences behaviors is what the
cognitive perspective focuses on. Psychodynamic is focused on how unconscious
mental processes and desires can effect behavior. External effects, punishment and
reward system, on behavior is studied in the behavioral perspective. Sociocultural is
about how the community as a whole can effect on individual, for good or bad.
Lastly, humanistic is about your own freewill. The choices you make based on how
you feel or think about yourself. The eclectic approach is when psychologist use not
just one perspective to study human behavior. It can make studies more complex but
the eclectic approach gives a more complete view on human
13. Cultural Collision In The Namesake
In the novel The Namesake, the author, Jhumpa Lahiri shows cultural collision.
Culture is a person s beliefs and being, it s the way one is raised. Cultural collision is
when cultures clash with another culture. When cultures clash it changes the way one
is raised and how they do things accordingly. Cultural collision portrays how it can
change the identity of the character by assimilating to another culture. Ashima is
forced to adapt to cultures in America and leave her Bengali traditions. Cultures
collide in Ashima s life by assimilating American culture with the culture in Calcutta.

15. Sacrifice Of Iphigenia Essay
Sacrifice is a common theme in Greek Mythology. Sometimes a sacrifice is made
for the greater good of a situation, and sometimes the sacrifice is a person. In one
myth, a girl named Iphigenia is sacrificed to gain better results for the Trojan army.
She is sacrificed on a public altar and even her father is willing to sacrificeher to
benefit his soldiers. In The Sacrifice of Iphigenia, Giovanni Battista Tiepolo shows
that as long as nothing happens to them, people do not care what happens to others,
while Iphigenia by Alfred Lord Tennyson shows that death is a hard, terrible, and
painful event.
The Sacrifice of Iphigenia has a tone of misfortune. Iphigenia is best known as the
daughter of Agamemnon who is the leader of Troy s Greek forces. Agamemnon
aggravated Artemis, the god of the hunt, by boasting about his hunting skills.
Agamemnon also kills one of Artemis sacred hares. For this Agamemnon has to
sacrifice his daughter Iphigenia for the favorable winds from the gods. In the
painting, Agamemnon is standing behind the altar where Iphigenia is being

While in the poem, Tennyson depicts the way Iphigenia feels during the event. Not
that the poem is necessarily about the painting; but is coincidentally an exact
representation of the same events from two different perspectives. In the painting
it shows Iphigenia just sacrificed, and it is more of an outsider s view of the story.
In the poem, it is a look at the situation from one person s point of view, and it
makes you feel more for Iphigenia. In the painting, there are lots of people
standing around watching the sacrifice, and it makes you feel aggravated and
disgusted that people would be there just to watch. The painting made the story
seem almost theatrical or like it was a scene from a play. The poem made the story
seem more real like you are there with her and can feel her agony and

The purpose of this experiment was to observe three different polymerizations. They
are condensation, chain addition, and cross linked polymerization. Polymerization is
a synthetic process where monomers are linked together. The first experiment
performed was the chain addition polymerization. A chain addition polymerization
requires an initiator that allows the reaction to react. In this experiment, styrene is
being polymerized with the indicator benzoyl peroxide to make polystyrene.
Benzoyl peroxide is a white solid and styrene is a clear liquid. When added together,
the .25g of benzoyl peroxide dissolved and the mixture resulted in a cloudy, white
liquid. This solution was separated into three test tubes and then was heated in a hot

checking the solubility of Nylon 10,6 the three solutes acetone, toluene, and ethanol
were placed in small Erlenmeyer flasks and following that, small pieces of the nylon
were added. The nylon did not appear to be soluble in any of the three solutes.
The last part of the experiment was the creation of slime. Slime is a cross linked
polymer that is formed from the reaction of poly(vinyl alcohol), PVA, with borax
(sodium borate decahydrate) under aqueous conditions (1). Slime was made by
combining 1 mL of Borax to 10mL of poly(vinyl alcohol) in a 30 mL beaker. The
slime began to form immediately when stirred with a glass stirring rod and was
transparent in color and stretchy. It had a thick density and resembled a clear hair
gel. When taken out of the beaker, it formed to the inside of the hand holding it, and
did not stick to skin like its looks

are available in our Planet earth. They are basically utilized by people to satisfy their
physiological needs, including shelter, clothing, air, water. People are unique
creatures who have survived and reproduced in a myriad of environments due to
cultural adaptations. These adaptations have allowed humans to colonize nearly
every ecosystem type on Earth. Not only but also these innovations allowed people to

the negative effects on our planet are unquestionable. The value that people place

chemicals and at least 42 components are associated with cancer. Tobacco Smoking is
responsible for 30% of cancer deaths and 90% of deaths from lung cancer (Arnold,

esophagus, pancreas, kidney, bladder and cervix. The smoke is associated with an

Male infertility is the inability to achieve a pregnancy after one year of frequent sex
without using contraception. Research has produced important new data to help men

can start reproduction.
Physical Effects on life
Tobacco smoking impairs the oxygenation of the lungs, i.e., there is a decreased
amount of air absorbed by the lungs and, as a consequence, reducing the blood s
ability to carry oxygen to cells and muscles of the body. This fact leads to loss of
physical ability to perform life activities like playing sports and dancing.
In all, over time the lungs of the smoker lose elasticity and space for the exchange
of carbon dioxide for oxygen. This results in a reduced respiratory capacity because
there is less air in and out, which also affect the practice of sports.
Nicotine increases the heart rate, which means that the heart of the smoker is forced
to work more to have the same performance as the heart of a nonsmoker.
So while smokers practice exercises: they tire more easily; have less endurance and
less breathless than people who do not smoke.
Psychological effects on life
One of the common justifications of tobacco smokers to maintain the habit is that
smoking relieves stress. And it seems they are right. Those who had received nicotine
patches were less likely to retaliate against provocations virtual enemy(Swan, 2007).

During this time, the dentist is able to examine the development of your child s

tooth decay just like adults. This is why it is extremely important for you to take
your child to the dentist. As soon as your baby s first tooth comes in,

Puss In Boots
A child s imagination is a powerful and unique thing. Not only is it used to make up
stories and games, but it is a key factor in their creative thoughts and can lead to the
type of education or career that is offered to them. Fairy Tales have been a major
part of kid s lives ever since they became popular. Fairy tales have withstood this test
of time because children have spent countless hours begging their parents to read
them all the fairy tales in the book. Puss in boots is a well known story that talks
about the diligence it takes to become wealthy.
Master Cat , a story better known as Puss in Boots , was originally a French fairy tale,

If Puss in Boots and the Marquis of Carabas had not of been so clever then the king

managed to hypnotize the king into thinking the lands and the Ogre s castle

the world. For example, many people might say the cat and The Marquis of
Carabas are thieves and do not deserve everything that is given to them. On the
other hand, One could say Puss in boots and The Marquis of Carabas earned the
ownership of the castle by outsmarting everyone else. This story may very well

saying anything is possible with diligence and ingenuity. Puss in boots proves this

25. The Impact Of Slum Tourism
Slum tourism is becoming an emerging trend now, especially in developing countries.
In fact, it has become one of the fastest growing market in the tourism industry. One
of the reasons for that is due to the expansion of slum in developing countries.
Frenzel et al., (2015) argue that as the number of locations has increased in the past
20 years, so has the number of tourists participating in slum tourism. They then
presented a graph on the rise of slum tourism and the estimated numbers of tourists
per year. It all begins in the 90s, where South Africa and Brazil had first developed
slum tourism. It then moves to North America, where Mexico was involved in around
1995. During the early 20s, the expansion of countries arrived in Asia. The number of
slum tourist destinations has continued increased and has later transformed into a
type of tourism. This indeed could generate income especially with developing
countries that are heavily rely on tourism. As Frenzel (2013) states that slum tourism
could contribute to development by creating a variety sources of income and non
material benefits. These benefits are not actually benefiting the community but acts
as a form of exploitation instead. As a result, this paper argues how slum tourism is
being portrayed as a form of exploitation through poverty, the ethics in participating in
slum tourism and how it does not lead to economic development.

We should not take technology and computer s usefulness for granted. Billions of
people use computers every day, yet only a fraction have the patience to understand
what they are doing. Or, the actual consequences of their actions and in turn cause
problems for themselves and others. As a result the same precautions that are made to
protect themselves are not applied when using a computer. More people need to treat
these computers as tools that can be used to make our lives and the world better
even if the world is changing, for better or worse. As such, people must learn what
a computer is to recognize it, what these computers need to stay maintained, and
how, as an individual, people must take control of their technology to bring
themselves into the modern world. Computers are defined in the Webster
dictionary as a programmable usually electronic device that can store, retrieve, and
process data. These could be anything from as small as calculators to cabinets the
size of buildings. They are well established into the daily lives of most of the
people in the world, if you tried to avoid computers entirely you would find it
difficult when your food is packaged with computers, cars are ran with computers,
odds are even your refrigerator has a computer in it. Check your food packaging,
most of the time there is a barcode on it. That means that the package had to be
scanned by computers many times before it reached your shelves. Even though

America chose to drop atomic bombs on Japan, and this affected the war and the
country in many ways. America was trying to stop the war and make Japan

States on the cities of Hiroshima and Nagasaki, Japan. Atomic bombs terrify
everyone today, but at that time, they were considered an indispensable step for an
early end to the war with minimal human losses. Some people believed the
bombings of Hiroshima and Nagasaki were necessary to end the war. Some people
believed the bombings were a terrible mistake. Many of the events that shaped this

Obesity is a problem in America, as it is in other Western countries. The population
of a country is always a reflection of its government, so our government decided that
it s time to dip their hands into this problem and come up with possible solutions to
our growing unhealthy population of people. The solution that is discussed in the

other people s diet is fun and inspiring by Jacob Sullum is that we should (or shouldn

The reason why obesity is a problem and unhealthy foods are flying off the shelves
is that they are convenient. You can buy complete frozen meals that are
undoubtedly unhealthy, but take 3 minutes to cook and can fill you up on the go.
Most Americans aren t rich, and don t have an abundance of time on their hands as
a result of working multiple jobs. Not having this extra time means that most
Americans don t have enough time to cook more elaborate meals that you can buy
the ingredients for and include vegetables in, and it s much easier for them to

When one argues that vegetables are cheap as well, I must refute that for a full

of vegetables with other food groups such as meat or bread. This obviously takes
more time and more money, the time and money some people just can t

Kaolin is very easy to refine and produce due to the abundant available quantities of
its unrefined form, kaolinite. And since kaolin is inert in its clinical form it does
not cause an immune response when introduced into a biological system, however
it is not biodegradable so it must be removed after use (Bennett et al., 2014;
Trabattoni et al., 2010). Kaolin has been an attractive hemostatic agent due to its
ability to form clots and being inexpensive to produces, however a major drawback
is that it does not work when the host is in a state of coagulopathy.
Chitosan:
Chitosan is a polysaccharide made of polymers of ОІ (1 4) linked D glucosamine and
N acetyl D glucosamine (NAG), and is produced from a component of the
exoskeleton of crustacean shells called chitin. Chitosan s hemostatic effects are due to
its amino groups reacting with the membranes of circulating cells in the host s blood,
leading to eventual clot formation that occurs independently of the innate coagulation
cascade. The positively charged residues present on chitosan attract the negatively
charged cell membranes of erythrocytes and thrombocytes, creating a cross linkage of
said cells and then the formation of a thrombus. Chitosan is also biodegradable and is
broken down inside the host. It also induces an immune response that activates
macrophages and stimulates cell proliferation leading to faster wound healing

Heavy metal poisoning is nothing new. It has been known for centuries that some
heavy metal compounds are quite toxic to people. A particularly infamous and

early human history. It saw many uses from making jewelry to the height of its use
in the ancient world as Roman plumbing. Most people would shudder at the
thought of drinking water from lead pipes with all the hysteria associated with
lead; however, lead pipes or more commonly lead solder are still around today

poisoning case was that of Flint, Michigan s water supply. Lead poisoning in the U.S.
is generally caused by contaminated water. Lead in the public water supply is
generally due to absorption from lead pipes or solder. Absorption of lead into water
has been found proportional to the temperature of the water. Unsurprisingly, the
warmer the water, the higher the lead concentration; however, the change in lead

Organizational Culture is the system of shared actions, values, and beliefs that has

Organizational Development consists of special applications of knowledge gained
from behavioral science to create a comprehensive design to improve organizational

Some strategy to help strengthen the organization call for managers to modify
observable cultures such as shared values, and common assumptions directly. Most
organizations contain a variety of subcultures, and a few have countercultures that
can become the source of potentially harmful conflicts. The corporate culture will also
reflect the values of the larger national culture. The first step management must take
is to first recognize an organized culture s subculture. Subculture s management
are referred to in the OB literature by the term Management Philosophy.
Management Philosophies link key goal related issues with key collaboration
issues and develops guidelines by which the firm will manage its affairs. It is
important to have a well developed management philosophy because it links
strategy to a more basic understanding of how the firm is to operate. These
strategies are; (1) to establish understood boundaries for all members of the firm,
(2) to provide a consistent way of approaching new and novel situations, and (3) to
help hold individuals together by assuring them of a known path toward success.
Managers may and can modify aspects of culture which include; modifying the
language, stories, rites, rituals, and sagas. They often will change the lessons to be
drawn from the stories told and even encourage people to see the reality they see.
Because of top management s position, senior managers can interpret situations in
new ways
39. Online Brand Engagement Is Different From Offline...
Online brand engagement is qualitatively different from offline engagement as the
nature of the customer s interactions with a brand, company and other customers are
different on the internet (Chak 2003). Verhoef et al. (2010) support that customer
engagement consists of multiple online behaviors as blogging, customer ratings and e
word of mouth. Furthermore, they state that customer engagementis affected by firm
initiatives, customer characteristics, and environmental/contextual factors (Verhoef et
al., 2010).
According to Sashi (2012) customer engagement is a topic that has had an emerging
interest during the last years, based on the development of Internet and the new tools
that have emerged with it Web 2.0 (Sashi, 2012). Due to the increasingly networking
society customers can easily interact with other customers and this non transactional
customer behavior has become more important for companies when developing their
strategies (Verhoef et al., 2010). Hollebeek et al. (2014) and van Doorn et al. (2010)
mention how important the understanding of online brand engagement is in the social
media platforms as well as recognizing the opportunities for brand to extract value
from their followers. Van Doorn (2010) supports also, that it is important for
companies to fully understand the impact of customer brand engagement since the
digital world involves a broad audience with immediacy breadth.
To be more precise, social networks are communities where people are able to

Estate the nobility, and the Third Estate was everyone else. The first two estates
were interested in preserving their privilege rather than helping the lower class
majority of France. The neglect of the Third Estate was essentially the neglect of
everyone who was not a noble or part of the clergy, Pamphlets unsubtly minimized
the diversity of the Third Estate ranging from unskilled workers in the cities to poor
peasant farmers to well educated lawyers and wealthy bankers . The Third Estate
represented much more people than the first or second, people that had different
desires and had a greater part in the economy, but was still suppressed and in turn
suppressed the wants and needs of the public. It was even thought that the huge
importance of the Third Estate would have allowed it to thrive on its own, What is
the Third Estate? Everything; but an everything shackled and oppressed. What would
it be without the privileged order? Everything, but an everything free and flourishing.
Nothing can succeed without it, everything would be infinitely better without the
others. The inequality among the estates was addressed with newly formed ideas
inspired by the American revolution, and drove the fight for reform in France s
43. The Effects Of Writing On Feminist Theory
The Effects of Writing on Feminist Theory
Throughout known history, societies that have developed across the globe have
favored men. Men were permitted to be lawyers, doctors, voters, and land owners;
however, one of the most influential, yet underpaid occupations for an individual is
the writer. Men have served for centuries as the mouthpiece for truth regarding all
things, until early feminists pushed for girls to receive education including key
success skills such as reading and writing. Most men were not thrilled about this
revolutionary change. Their efforts to uphold the traditional roles of women are
expressed through the character Gaston in Disney s Beauty and the Beast: It s not
right for a woman to read, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Feminist theory was developed to recognize injustices against women, and proposes
action to change the situation universally (Young 20). The 1960s and 70s brought
second wave feminism, which occurred during the same time as the Civil Rights
movement and protests against the Vietnam War (Rich 7). The second wave of
feminism was said to be a transition focused on individual rights (Freedman 3).
Feminists who belonged to other minority groups received poor recognition from
mainstream feminists (Rich 31). Many issues among feminists themselves can be
seen on a larger scale throughout society itself; however, in order for second wave
feminism to be a success, cultural issues such as homophobia and racism needed to
be ironed out from within the group before feminists could expect any forward
progress. Due to poor recognition from white feminists, Black Feminism, as well as
several other subcategories of feminism, developed during this time (Freedman 4).
Black feminism arose from the civil rights movement and mainstream feminism.
From civil rights activists, black women were treated as second class citizens , and
racism came from their fellow feminist sisters. Black women ran an uphill battle,
fighting racism, classism, and even at times homophobia (Rich 32).
Black women are inherently valuable, and that our liberation is a necessity not as an
adjunct to somebody else s but because of our need as human persons for autonomy
(Rich 31).

44. Vast Mountain Mountains
Warren Wilson. How did I end up here? I could, be anywhere else. However,
Appalachia undoubtedly has to be the perfect place to foster my curiosity of the
mountains. Throughout my life I have been interested in protecting the environment,
many different avenues of art expression, and the cultural roots of mountain people.
Now, all of those subjects are covered in The Encyclopedia of Appalachia, but I can
go further to tie all of those subjects into the main topic of agriculture, specifically
sustainable agriculture, which I just so happen to be majoring in (convenient, huh?).
My appreciation for these mountains have grown so much that I want to choose a life
that will work mutualistically with the mountains to not only accept the bounty they

Vast mountain ranges and rocky cliffs come to mind. Those are both some obvious
factors as to why agricultural practices may be hard in the region, but other than
physical boundaries, what are the difficulties of growing in this mountainous
region? I will surely need to know these if I plan to make a living off of growing in
the mountains. My fascination for how native tribes work with the land raised the
question of what crops were originally grown/are native, in Appalachia prior to the
European invasion bringing about other crops. Were these new crops brought in
essential for a growing population or were they destructive to the soil, being
invasive plants? Tying into the idea of native crops, I would love to look more into
the herbs found within the forests of Appalachia. Wanting to be a doula and
homesteader, I have found interest in researching the benefits of medicinal herbs on
the pains of childbirth. Finding those herbs right here in Appalachia would be ideal.
The encyclopedia had a section entirely on mushrooms. I did not dive into what it
said because at this point I am just seeking questions. I am wondering, however, why
do mushrooms grow well here? Is it simply because of the thick canopy of the forest
providing ample shade or do these mountains contain particular nutrients necessary
for mushroom growth? My father has always shown an interest in growing shiitake
mushrooms. I have never spoken to him about what sparked his interest, but living in
the Cherokee National Forest, which is neighboring the Appalachian Mountains, I
could find this information

Organization Culture assist employee and their surrounding the values and behaviors
that formulates the environment. The culture are constructed by the people, however,
the continuation of this culture lives through the creator themselves (Cheney,
Ganesh, Zorn, Christensen, 2011, p.77). Many factors form a culture, but until people
recognize these aspects, they do not perceive the culture in face value. In this paper,
analytical skills are implemented to assessing organization culture at Tinker Airforce
base. The 421st GUMBA at Tinker Air Force Base is a supply sustainment

Tinker Air Force Base is a large organization with many subculturewho must
combine knowledge and skills to accomplish many tasks. Each member of the group
has their own culture identify, but they share the same larger culture of understanding
and perception of the current problems. The subcultures creates individuality amongst
the organization, as bonds are created to better the mission. The rites of integration
(Cheney, Ganesh, Zorn, Christensen, 2011, p85) are used to reinforce the connection
within the organization and to recognize employees as well as their establishment.
Tinker recognize their employees with employees of the quarters, employees of the
year, and having a yearly picnic to congratulate the organization on their hard work.
With recognition, occupation longevity are very important to organization and retain

Geology of Mammoth Cave Kentucky
Introduction
Mammoth Cave is found in Mammoth Cave National Park that was founded in 1941.
Currently, it is the longest cave known in the world with approximately 350 miles of
underground interconnected chambers and passages. Mapping and exploration
continues and seems like it has no end. Mammoth Cave National Park is situated near
Park City in south central Kentucky. It lies in forested and hilly areas of three
counties; Hart, Edmonson, and Barren. It occupies about 50,000 acres. A landscape
that is mainly covered by the solution features such as sinking streams, large
springs, sinking holes, and caves is referred to as karst. For instance, as shown in

The typical paths found above the water level are canyon like and narrow as shown
in figure 5 below. (Figure 5)
These pictures show a canyon found in Mammoth Caves
They have sinuous, curving channels and their heights are higher compared to their
widths (Thompson Thompson, 2003). Irregularities toward the local direction of slant
cause paths sinuosity. Canyons located in the Mammoth Cave run up to 80 to 100
feet high and 10 30 feet wide but many of them are not that high and much narrower.
Vertical shafts are created where water can run down vertically alongside fractures

Shafts are oval or round in parallel cross section. In their walls, many shafts have a
series of drains at different elevations (Call, 2010). Currently, water running down a

In Mammoth Cave, the biggest shaft is about 150 feet deep, and a diameter is some

47. Difference Between Private Sector And Public Sector
1.1Explain the differences between the private sector the public sector and the
voluntary sector
The Private Sector
The private sector is usually composed of organizations that are privately owned and
not part of the government. For example, retail shops, credit unions, and local
businesses will operate in the private sector.
The Public Sector
The public sector is usually organisations that are owned and operated by the
government. This includes federal, local, national, or municipal governments (cities,
towns, villages, counties, districts, or metropolitan regions), depending on where you
live. Privacy legislation usually calls organizations in the public sector a public body
or a public authority.
Some examples of public bodies are educational bodies, health care bodies, police and
prison services, and local and central government bodies and their departments.
The voluntary sector
The voluntary sector is very diverse, including multi national charities, local
community groups and everything in between.
There are many types of voluntary organisations in the UK. Most are one of the
180,000 registered charities, but there are also housing associations, credit unions,
community interest companies, trusts, local community groups and others.
Voluntary sector organisations management and governance is similar to the private
sector. The board of trustee s act as directors.
Main Differences:
Legal Obligations
Publicly owned companies, because they are partially

by Huddie William Ledbetter https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xn50JSI0W E
This song was originally written and recorded by Huddie Ledbetter in 1933. It s
been redone in the years since most notably by The Weavers who recorded their
own version just one year after his death. It lasted over 25 weeks on the Billboard
Best Seller chart. With its popularity, most people are more familiar with the lyrics
from The Weavers than those from Ledbetter. The success of The Weaver s version
of the song brought out more artists who did their own take on the song. Frank

He used a typewriter to get the poem out of his head then promptly forgot about it.
His housemate named Peter Yarrow looked for him years later to give him credit
for the song. He s still getting royalties today. There s always been a segment of
people who believe that the song is referring to smoking marijuana as taking a puff
on a joint or draggin is the smoking itself. Both Lipton and Yarrow reject the
interpretation. Number 3 Sounds of Silence by Simon Garfunkle https:/

Simon between the years of 1963 and 1964. It was eventually released in 1964, but
didn t meet with much success. The duo broke up after the failure, but the next
year, it began to get play on radio stations on the east coast of the U.S. The producer
remixed the track and released it in 1965. The duo reunited and released the song
on their second album with the same name. It was added to the National Recording
Registry in the Library of Congress in 2013 as a historically and culturally important
song. Number 2 If I Had a Hammer by Pete Seeger
