2. Content
Some of the content that is featured on
a website is:
Images
Biography
Music links
Video links
Social media links
Merchandise
It is important to have a wide variety of
content on the website, as you’re looking
to find different ways to attract your
audience. Usually the younger the
audience the more platforms you need to
work across.
The more depth the content has the closer
the connection between the star and the
audience.
3. Purpose The purpose of a website
is to:
Allow fans to get to
know the artist better
Keep up to date with
what the artist is
doing e.g. Through
tweets
Promote new singles
Advertise music
videos/behind the
scenes videos
Bring in more sales
e.g. Mercahndise
Promote the record
company
4. Information
There is a lot of information
available on a website,
these are found in
different forms:
Events
Tours
News
Twitter feed
Instagram updates
5. Music
Artists now incorporate lots of
videos into their websites, these
videos can be:
Music videos
Teaser trailers
Behind the scenes videos
Interviews
Guest Appearances
Q&A with fans
The idea of a music video is to
improve the
audience’s pleasure when listening to
the song by
providing visuals to complement the
song.
If there are no direct videos on the
website there are links on to the website
to the artist's YouTube account.
6. Style
The style of a website is not just about the individual pages but it’s overall appearance.
Each page is defined by the artist image and their genre of music but the overall layout
is based around the target audience, and what would appeal to them.
The colour of the websites. Websites of the pop genre will have vibrant colours
compared to the website of a heavy metal website
The type of images that are posted. Pop websites will have images revolving around the
star
Tabs are clearly set out and easy to find
Links to social media sites are clearly visible
7. Navigation
The navigation of a website is based around the target audience. The younger the
audience the simpler the navigation.
To navigate Katy Perry’s website all you need to scroll. There is no main
navigation bar that you might find on other websites. Katy has quite a young
target audience, and the task of navigating a website using tabs may be a bit
difficult; hence the emphasis on scrolling.
At the end of each section there is a ‘More’ link; this provides more information
on the section e.g. More Videos. It’s almost as if the navigation bar is dispersed
throughout the page.
