Tips to prepare a better presentation for a webinarWeb2Present
So how does a perfect PowerPoint presentation look like for a webinar?
It’s simple. According to the famous 30-20-10 rule proposed by Guy Kawasaki, the Chief evangelist of Canva, advisor to the CEO of Motorola and chief evangelist of Apple, a presentation should have no more than 10 slides, should not take longer than 20 minutes and have a font of 30pt.
Don´t forget this rule when making the next PowerPoint presentation for a Student Recruitment Webinar or any type of webinar. We also recommend you to keep it short, simple, legible and avoid distracting your audience, in this case the students. Once you lose them you never get them back. You’ll be more compelling and convincing!
Here we´re sharing with you a unique infographic created by our team explaining some tips to prepare a better presentation for a webinar.
2024.06.01 Introducing a competency framework for languag learning materials ...Sandy Millin
http://sandymillin.wordpress.com/iateflwebinar2024
Published classroom materials form the basis of syllabuses, drive teacher professional development, and have a potentially huge influence on learners, teachers and education systems. All teachers also create their own materials, whether a few sentences on a blackboard, a highly-structured fully-realised online course, or anything in between. Despite this, the knowledge and skills needed to create effective language learning materials are rarely part of teacher training, and are mostly learnt by trial and error.
Knowledge and skills frameworks, generally called competency frameworks, for ELT teachers, trainers and managers have existed for a few years now. However, until I created one for my MA dissertation, there wasn’t one drawing together what we need to know and do to be able to effectively produce language learning materials.
This webinar will introduce you to my framework, highlighting the key competencies I identified from my research. It will also show how anybody involved in language teaching (any language, not just English!), teacher training, managing schools or developing language learning materials can benefit from using the framework.

Operation “Blue Star” is the only event in the history of Independent India where the state went into war with its own people. Even after about 40 years it is not clear if it was culmination of states anger over people of the region, a political game of power or start of dictatorial chapter in the democratic setup.
The people of Punjab felt alienated from main stream due to denial of their just demands during a long democratic struggle since independence. As it happen all over the word, it led to militant struggle with great loss of lives of military, police and civilian personnel. Killing of Indira Gandhi and massacre of innocent Sikhs in Delhi and other India cities was also associated with this movement.

Finnish education system values very much
self-study as part of the learning process,
which I found it challenging and interesting
because I developed my self-discipline and
use of new learning tools. I was also very

opportunities to improve our grades.

are encouraged and welcome to discuss and raise questions.

being discussed. Labs are open till midnight where students
are equipped with well processing computers and fast speed
internet. Libraries are updated with current books and students
can borrow as many books as they want.

Editor's Notes
Thank Sinikka and introduce myself
Have you guys seen what’s been going on in the markets this year? Ineterest rates were moving up and down at the beginning of the year, and lately stocks have been volatile – with some market down more than others. The dollar made a big move, and has been fairly stable recently. What’s going on? Is it just investors worrying about the Federal Reserve raising interest rates? Is the world worried about a hard landing in China? How should one respond to – or take advantage of – these changes in the market?
The other main area of finance is corporate finance. Corporate governance – how do investors make sure they get a return on their money? Mergers and acquisitions - Some big deals in the past few years have been the merger of Heinz and Kraft foods, and last year Facebook bought WhatsApp for about 19B. How were these deals priced? How did the stock prices react? Interest rates have been very low for a long time – why hasn’t there been more leveraged buyouts?
These are the types of things we cover in the finance program.
What type of students are we looking for? Business, math/statistics, and engineering students usually do well in the program. Generally, students with these backgrounds have developed quantitative skills to get through the program. No, the math is not topology or quantum mechanics, but finance students need to be able to use mathematics to learn things about the markets. Probabilities, distributions, calculus, optimization, linear algebra, are the types of mathematics that we use regularly.
What field specific knowledge will you gain? You will learn about asset pricing, portfolio management, risk management, firm valuation.
The quantitative skills you develop in the program are applicable in many areas. Econometric analysis, forecasting, and bootstrapping, computer coding (SAS, R). You will learn how to use these tools in finance, but these tools are useful in many many areas of business.
Note the graph – the relationship between the VIX index and the SP500 index. Normally, the VIX rises as the SP500 falls. What the does current level of the VIX say about the expected volatility of the SP500?
The equation at the bottom is a simple AR(1) equation – a relative of the random walk.
What types of jobs can get after completing the program? Recent graduates are now working in financial management for global companies (GE), tax advising / consulting, working as entrepreneurs, and some have gone on to Ph.D. studies. Nhan is actually a current student who has been completing an internship in Belgium for a institution promoting solar power. I like her quote – we cover both theory and practice.
Now Ermela will tell you about the FMA program.
Let’s move on to the Master’s Programme in International Business Management. I will tell about the programme briefly and later Andrew who is a current student in the programme will talks about his experiences.
The IBM education focuses on a variety of issues related to managing and leading international businesses.
For example, would you like to learn how to create the next Facebook? What does it take to start up a company with college roommates, get investors on board, go public and grow the firm to one of the world’s leading businesses? The programme teaches you about business designing, venture growth strategies and international entrepreneurship.
Do you want to know what it takes to manage a multinational corporation such as Google? The studies cover topics related to leading multinationals , mergers, acquisitions , and joint ventures. Also legal issues related to international business, strategic thinking, leadership skills , and responsible business management are covered in the studies.
How about learning to search for cool business opportunities? The programme teaches you about business opportunity creation in emerging and developed economies; how to identify and creatively form business opportunities, and evaluate commercial and market viability of business ideas.
Something that is a particularly important question here in Finland: would you have known how to save Nokia? During the studies you will learn about management and strategy renewal in the dynamic, ever changing global business environment.
So the programme is really about giving you the tools needed in managing, creating, and developing various kinds of international organizations.
So what kind of applicants and students are we looking for?
- You can have background for example in business studies, social sciences or engineering. We have students from diverse educational backgrounds. You will benefit if you have some prior studies (major or minor) in business
- Students who do well in our programme are highly motivated, have global mindset, are proactive in studies, and able to share their experiences and contribute to collaborative learning
What we offer for our students is…
- high quality education that connects theory and practice in teaching and projects
- also, inspiring learning environment for your intellectual growth and personal development
- The education also prepares you to continue your studies at doctoral level.
- You will also have excellent career opportunities after graduation…
Our graduates are capable of working in a variety of different professions. The career opportunities range from self-employment as an entrepreneur to a diversity of management positions and to consulting or governmental professions.
Here are some of the recent graduates.
Jinni and Adeolu have actually established their own business in Finland, while Maria got a job as Coordinator of International Affairs here in Oulu.
Many students also return to their home countries, like Steffen, or go an pursue international career opportunities around the globe.
Maria tells that she has particularly enjoyed the opportunities to learn new things and develop her skills in a safe and friendly environment.
Nelly says that one of the benefits of studying in Oulu are the international networks that become a door to endless opportunities.
As a student in the University of Oulu I have had the opportunity to gain insights into current international events in business management from internationalizing to how to conduct relevant research to the occuring changes.
We also have the opportunity to be in the presence of a competent staff who are well qualified in different fields and can give us as students a better vision of their different study subjects.
We also have lecturers who are currently entrepreneurs in international markets who also bring their own expertise to help us better understand what is practically occuring in international markets.
One of the biggest advantages I have received from studying in University of Oulu is the priviledge of studying within an internationally diverse group with students from all the continents from around the world except Australia.
Diversity has increased my international network and has opened up my mind to different cultures and people. So if you are looking for a different worldview University of Oulu is the place to be.
There are various social activities that you can become a part of. I love singing so I joined the local university choir and I love volunteering so I joined the local AIESEC in Oulu which has been such a beautiful experience.
I love travelling and have been on a couple of road trips with my friends and due to the numerous international students I have made not only friends from my class but other international students.
