This document discusses how to set up and synchronize a remote website using Dreamweaver. 3. Definition
Site definition:
local site - is in a folder on your computer’s
hard drive
remote site - is established in a folder on a
web server, typically running on another
computer, and is connected to the Internet
and publicly available

4. Connect to Remote site
Dreamweaver supports several methods for
connecting to a remote site:
• FTP (File Transfer Protocol)
• Local/Network
• SFTP (Secure File Transfer Protocol)
• WebDav (Web Distributed Authoring and
Versioning)
• RDS (Remote Development Services)

5. Setting up a remote FTP site
The vast majority of web developers rely on
FTP to publish and maintain their sites.
FTP is a well-established protocol, and
many variations of the protocol are used on
the web, most of which are supported by
Dreamweaver.

6. File Synchronization
After you’ve created files in your local and
remote sites, you can synchronize the files
between the two sites.
File synchronization (or syncing) is the
process of ensuring that computer files in
two or more locations are updated via certain
rules.

Before you synchronize your sites, you can
verify which files you want to put, get,
delete, or ignore.
Dreamweaver also confirms which files
have been updated after you complete the
synchronization.
