Libraries Do Matter: Enhancing Traditional Services with Library 2.0St. Petersburg College
What is library 2.0? Should your library actually 'upgrade' from version 1.0 to 2.0? Is Library 3.0 on the horizon? Sit back and relax while Diana Sachs-Silveira and Chad Mairn answer these questions while unscrambling the hodgepodge of Web 2.0 lingo. Diana and Chad will introduce a variety of Web 2.0 concepts that have evolved into services like MySpace, Wikipedia, Del.ic.ious, Digg, Flickr, RSS, Second Life, Writely, and others and discuss how libraries can play a part in all of this.
Talk given at the Semantic Web SIKS course 2011: why we need semantics on the Social Web. Three examples: social tagging, user profiling based on Twitter streams and cross-system user profiling (linking user profiles).
Semantic Wiki: Social Semantic Web in UseJesse Wang
This is my invited talk on Semantic Wiki to the Key Lab of Intelligent Information Processing at Fudan University in Shanghai during ASWC 2009 when I gave a similar tutorial on semantic mediawiki and applications.
A wiki is free, functional and fabulous. This presentation will reveal how a wiki-centric classroom can easily be developed to provide a constructivist tool for collaboration, communication, publishing, presentation and assessment. Topics covered include the nuts and bolts of setting up a wiki, ideas for classroom use and best practice use of wikis internationally. The Edublog 2006 award winning wiki “Flat Classroom Project” will be featured along with a discussion of how to integrate Web 2.0 tools into the wiki environment.

Quick brace of images for a very short talk on the future of technology+teaching.
Also shown: this video, http://www.nasa.gov/mission_pages/cassini/multimedia/pia08117.html .
Envisioning multiple futures for the world wide web. I begin with a series of trends, from "web 3.0" to accessibility, then discuss some existential threats. Next, I address two big sources of potential impact: AI and climate change. I conclude with several scenarios, then advice to the audience.
At Reclaim Open 2023, https://reclaimopen.com/ .
Outline and prompts for a workshop on higher education in the climate crisis.
We hit five subtopics:
1: The physical campus
2: Research
3: Teaching
4: Campus-community relations
5: Campuses engaging the nonacademic world as a whole.
This was an interactive session, goading participants to share their thoughts through Zoom chat, verbal reactions, and online writing on other sites.
I'm testing out this framework.

Neuro-symbolic is not enough, we need neuro-*semantic*Frank van Harmelen
Neuro-symbolic (NeSy) AI is on the rise. However, simply machine learning on just any symbolic structure is not sufficient to really harvest the gains of NeSy. These will only be gained when the symbolic structures have an actual semantics. I give an operational definition of semantics as “predictable inference”.
All of this illustrated with link prediction over knowledge graphs, but the argument is general.

Kubernetes & AI - Beauty and the Beast !?! @KCD Istanbul 2024Tobias Schneck
As AI technology is pushing into IT I was wondering myself, as an “infrastructure container kubernetes guy”, how get this fancy AI technology get managed from an infrastructure operational view? Is it possible to apply our lovely cloud native principals as well? What benefit’s both technologies could bring to each other?
Let me take this questions and provide you a short journey through existing deployment models and use cases for AI software. On practical examples, we discuss what cloud/on-premise strategy we may need for applying it to our own infrastructure to get it to work from an enterprise perspective. I want to give an overview about infrastructure requirements and technologies, what could be beneficial or limiting your AI use cases in an enterprise environment. An interactive Demo will give you some insides, what approaches I got already working for real.
Elevating Tactical DDD Patterns Through Object CalisthenicsDorra BARTAGUIZ
After immersing yourself in the blue book and its red counterpart, attending DDD-focused conferences, and applying tactical patterns, you're left with a crucial question: How do I ensure my design is effective? Tactical patterns within Domain-Driven Design (DDD) serve as guiding principles for creating clear and manageable domain models. However, achieving success with these patterns requires additional guidance. Interestingly, we've observed that a set of constraints initially designed for training purposes remarkably aligns with effective pattern implementation, offering a more ‘mechanical’ approach. Let's explore together how Object Calisthenics can elevate the design of your tactical DDD patterns, offering concrete help for those venturing into DDD for the first time!
