The Purpose Of The Individual Mandate
The term individual mandate, as a component of the Affordable Care Act, is a mandatory requirement
according to which the majority of people in the United States has to have some kind of health
insurance. Most specifically, according to the fundamentals of this regulation, any individual who can
afford a health insurance policy, but chooses not to do so, will have to pay a fine. Prior to the existence
of the individual mandate, health insurance companies had the choice to reject people with health
conditions that would potentially incur high costs. Because of this reason, a significant number of
people did not have any health coverage. In order to maintain insurance premiums reasonably steady
and sustain government cost balanced, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The individual mandate, at this point, presents itself as the most cost effective and affordable way
through which reasonably priced coverages are available to the mass population. The bests advantage
of the individual mandate, according to Nick Tate, is that it prevents insurance companies from
rejecting people because they have a pre existing health condition. Under this provision, all Americans
benefit a coverage plan regardless of their health Status. When healthcare companies are legally
obligated to accept policy holders with any situation, every single American has the obligation to
enroll in a healthcare plan. Therefore, the dilemma of people trying avoid having such a plan
disappear as it become illegal to be living without any coverage.
Government Subsidies for the Lower Income Individuals
To make it easier for every American to enroll in a plan, the Federal government provides lower
income taxpayers who do not receive insurance from employers or other sources and do not qualify
for an exemption with a premium tax credit to subsidize the purchase of qualified health plans
purchased through an Exchange. Radically the individual mandate reflects the image of a program

Obstacles In The Titans
The T.C. William Titans fought and overcame many obstacles throughout the season. Some of these
obstacles included racism, the team falling apart, and biased referees. Even though all odds were
against them, the Titans pulled through and managed to win the state championship. The first, and
main obstacle that the Titans faced was racism. Racism was prevalent throughout the whole movie,
but was worst in the beginning as the team had not learned to accept each other yet. White players and
parents didn t want black players or a black coach, and many wanted to boycott T.C. Williams for
allowing it. Head coach, Herman Boone, solved this at the team s camp by forcing the players to get to
know each other, or face practice multiple times a day. Racism continued throughout the movie,
mostly from people outside of the team, but there was occasional racial tension within the team. The
Titans faced many other obstacles throughout the season, but racism was the biggest one. ... Show

In one of the Titans games, they noticed that they were not playing together as well as they had been
previously, and that tensions were high. To combat this, the boys called a team meeting. At the team
meeting, they realized that they needed to raise the positive energy and bond a little more at their
upcoming game. To do this, they decided to sing during their usual warm up, which had the added
benefit of distracting the other team during their warm up. Without quickly realizing that the team was
falling apart and that they needed to do something to fix it, the Titans wouldn t have been able to win

Raytheon Competitive Advantage
Raytheon s Strategy for Competitive Advantage Analysis of External Environment When conducting
an analysis of external environment, PESTEL model is a helpful tool to analyze and assess the
external factors (political, economic, social and technological, environmental, and legal) that impact
the company s strategy and operations (Jurevicius, 2013). Below is Raytheon s PESTEL analysis. See
Appendix A for a full list of external contributing factors affecting A D industry.  Political: Since the
primary source of budget is from defense budget, which is appropriated by the Congress, political
factor is an important and highly relevant to A D companies. Changes in government administration
and geopolitics can directly and drastically affect the strategies and directions of the A D companies.
Most large A D companies have Government Relations department to help them navigate through the
complex and competitive marketplace.  Economic: According to Aerospace Industries Association

Janis Branam s Influence On My Life
I often wonder why I do the things I do in life. However, when it comes to family traditions, I know
exactly why I do them. I come from a very large family, with 6 sisters and 2 brothers the house was
always busy. With so many people in and out of our home, the people that come and go and help to
shape your lives, I believe it was my mother, Janis Branam, that had the most effect on my life. One of
the biggest influences she had on me was the holiday traditions. This may not seem important to most,
but looking back on my childhood, that is something that has changed me and made me who I am
today. My mother was a stay at home mom, and raising 9 children on one income is not easy to say the
least, but she did a great job. The holidays though, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
I continue the traditions as much as I possibly can with my own family. I want my children to
remember each and every special event, just as I do. I want them to look back and feel the love just
remembering the day we did this or that, just as I do. My mother passed away at the age of 61 and we
buried her on Saint Patrick s day, another holiday she enjoyed. We had green carnations for each of
her children to place on her casket and her grandchildren each had a green balloon to send off. I miss
her everyday but know she is always with me in every memory and tradition I follow. She has made
me know the true meaning of every season in life. Love, respect and joy should be a part of your life
every day and family should always be an important part of your life. Yes, there is pain, and sorrow,
and loss, but reminding myself how much love she gave, helps me to try and do the same for my

Companionship In Guardians Of The Galaxy
I have lived most of my life surrounded by my enemies, I will be grateful to die among my friends,
(Guardians of the Galaxy). Gamora exclaims this to her worried friends as they are about to battle
against Ronen. When she makes this statement it sets the overall theme of companionship.
Companionship is the good feeling you get when you are with someone else (Companionship). It is
having someone by your side that makes you feel cared for. Family, friends, and lovers are people who
promote the feeling of companionship. They are by your side when you need them and they help you
in your struggles. In the movie Guardians of the Galaxy companionship is shown through expressions
and actions of the characters, soundtrack, and the repetition of the importance of family.
First of all, the movie Guardians of the Galaxy is a film about a group of unique characters who take
on a villain, and save their galaxy. The main character Peter Quill, who goes by the name Star lord,
was abducted as a child, and taken into a new galaxy. He is raised by a bandit, named Yondu, ... Show

of the Galaxy). Later on into the movie Gamora is facing a life or death situation after being released
into outer space without any protection. Star lord risks his own life, by releasing himself into outer
space, to save her. He could not help just seeing her die in front of him. Therefore he had a change in
heart towards her after sharing some time together. He found something inside of him that could not
let her die. He fell in love with her and wants her to be by his side, which encompasses

Another research study that align with the previous research study mention in this paper is the study
conducted by Merianos, King, Vidourek, Nabors (2015). The study primary aim was to examine the
relationship of recent alcohol use, binge drinking (past 30 days) and authoritative parenting among
Hispanic youth (Merianos, King, Vidourek, Nabors, 2015). The study unit of analysis was Hispanic
youth s ages ranging from 12 to 17 years of age. The participants of the study completed surveys in
the privacy of their own homes. Merianos, King, Vidourek, Nabors (2015) results indicates a total of

3 illustrate the boroughs that each participants reside in. 50% lived in Brooklyn and 25% live in
Queens and the remainder lives in the Bronx as shown in figure 3.
Design and Data Collection Method
To answer the research question or test the hypothesis, a quantitative study was design to determine
the relationship between parenting styles and alcohol use among adolescences. In this research, we
identified the different instruments needed to collect the data on a sample of participants. Also, the
validity ( credibility) and reliability ( dependability) test were researched for both instrument. The
reliability was also analyzed using the SPSS software to determine the instruments dependability in
this study.
Parental Authority Questionnaire
One appropriate method for answering the research question or testing the hypothesis is the Parental
Authority Questionnaire (PAQ). PAQ was created by John R. Buri. The PAQ is a 30 item instrument
design to measure parental authority, or disciplinary practices, from the point of view of the child (of
any age) (Corcoran, Fischer, 2000). This questionnaire comprises of a five point Likert type items

Emotional Abuse Research Paper
Transition This poem is about emotional abuse. Emotional abuse is the ongoing emotional
maltreatment or emotional neglect of a child. Attention According to Childabuse.com every 2 seconds
a child is abused, and 5 out of every 6 cases of abuse go unreported. If I were to ask the human
population what they think the most common type of abuse is, most of them would guess physical or
sexual. But did you know it s neither of those things, it s emotional abuse and neglect. The purpose of
my speech is to clue you in on emotional abuse and show you why people who emotionally abuse
their children need more of a punishment than they currently get. You should be interested because
many people around you are emotionally abused, wearing that invisible scar, and you have no idea. I

Emotional abuse can restrict a child s emotional development, including their ability to feel and
express a full range of emotions appropriately, and to control their emotions. Children who don t get
the love and care they need from their parents may find it difficult to develop and maintain healthy
relationships with other people later in life. Emotional abuse needs more awareness and parents need
to stop getting away with it. Also if parents are even convicted of this crime they need more than a
year in prison. They need to lose rights of their child they treat like dirt because they kill that child
mentally. They leave that child numb and weak. The child won t remember what happiness feels like

The Effects Of Music On Our Country Today
Music in today s day and age has the ability to be a very pervasive form of media. There is an
indisputable truth that media has the ability to effect the masses. But, the effect of music and the
message it is sends to its listeners is not always a positive one. I am aiming to describe how sexism in
music is an epidemic in our country today. I ll also be comparing and contrasting different music
genres, to see if certain types of music are better or worse than others. A common phrase in media and
advertising is Sex Sells , but at what cost?
Before examining sexism in the different genres, I d like to take an in depth look at the visual side of
the music industry. Music is an auditory medium, but there is an obvious visual side to its market as
well. Music videos became popular back in the early 80 s thanks to MTV. Steven A. Seidman wrote an
article titled Profile: An investigation of sex‐role stereotyping in music videos , in which he conducted
a study, and discovered that male characters were portrayed as adventuresome, domineering,
aggressive, violent, and victimize, while females were depicted as affectionate, dependent, nurturing,
and fearful than males. He also found that a large percentage of female characters wore revealing
clothing and that they initiated and received sexual advances more often than males. (Seidman) What
type of message does this send to the general public? And how does this portrayal influence
individuals? Another study aiming to answer

Characteristics Of The Best Restaurant Essay
What Makes a Restaurant the Best: Best Restaurants
Waiting forever just to taste insatiable food for gratuitous reasons,is what everybody hates. Last time I
went to the Chopstick House, the service was terrible, in fact the waitress only came over to our table
when we first got there and to give us our food. To makes things worse when my food arrived it tasted
like deep fried plastic. Due to this, all restaurants should have certain characteristics in order to be the
best.
In particular, the feature that make a restaurant a great restaurant is when one leaves the restaurant
stuffed every time. One restaurant is Texas Roadhouse. Texas Roadhouse is a steakhouse where an
individual can pick however many ounces of steak they deem necessary. This quality tempted me to
trump the amount of ounces that I got the last time, but every time the I get to the last few ounces I
have to tap out. The fact that they want to beat themselves is not all of it, but the fact that the steak is
so juicy they can t stop eating it. So it leaves them maxed out by the time they leave. Another great
restaurant is Blaze pizza. Blaze pizza is a build your own pizza place where anyone can pick their own
toppings all the way down to the dough. The reason one will leave this place stuffed is because of the
unique taste of the pizza being cooked over flames, instead of the stove. The pizza being personal
pizza size makes it seem manageable, but really the pizza is pretty big and by the time someone gets

Why Did Napoleon Die In Animal Farm
Two years later Napoleon conquered Pilkington and Fredrick s farm. The humans on the farms were
treated like the animals and starving to death. The animals that were working on the farm have left
because they no longer wanted to live under Napoleon s rule, or died from starvation and cruelty.
Napoleon is mad because the animals are gone, the humans are dying and no work is getting done on
the farm. Since no one was working and Napoleon was starving he ordered the dogs to kill Squealer
for food. Napoleon had turned to cannibalism.
The word of Napoleon killing Squealer spread quickly and the animals that escaped were terrified that
Napoleon was coming after them. Napoleon eventually ran out of food and is down to his last bottle of
whiskey. He decided to venture out and find the animals. He walked around on what was Pilkington s
farm. It was destroyed and over grown with weeds. Napoleon and his dogs searched Pilkington s farm
all day and were not able find a trace of the animals that ran away. Napoleon was becoming frustrated
at the dogs for not being able to catch the animals scent. Napoleon was so frustrated at the dogs for not

Abolishment Of Sweatshops In The United States
largely beneficial in the lives of the working people. While workers in sweatshops are extremely
willing to work in sweatshops, individuals in western nations often advocate for the abolishment of
sweatshops. Individuals in the west who argue against sweatshops are often arguing for the interest of
dominant groups in society. Arguing against developing countries trying to build their living standards
and happiness through low wage production and manufacturing, is actually individuals and groups
wanting jobs to stay in the wealthy nations instead of being sent off to low cost nations (Spath, 2002,
pg. 125). Advocating for the abolishment of sweatshops is placing a barrier on an individual s right to
work (Danaher Henderson, 2001, pg. 128). ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Real life examples would be campuses across the United States, and individual municipalities across
Canada advocating against sweatshops, and advocating for sweat free goods. Student activists in
universities in the United States have started to disallow purchasing university merchandise from
factories that don t respect worker s rights. This push is coming from the United Students Against
Sweatshops, who have over the years organized strikes, rallies, and charity events to demand that
American universities make stronger policies to disallow clothing for students to come from
sweatshops. Pressure from students have made numerous universities support this cause. Furthermore,
students have demanded that popular clothing brands like Nike disclose which factories are used to
make university merchandise, and Nike did give the locations and names of its factories to the
organization. Nike also promised to make sweatshop conditions better. This is an example of how
student organizations are getting major companies to improve the conditions in sweatshops, and how
major organizations share the view that sweatshops are extremely bad for worker s economic and
social human rights. Student organizations in universities are also making companies pay their
workers more in order for them to meet the living wage. While this does make prices for merchandise
higher, it has a minimal impact on the consumer and a huge impact on the worker. In this way students
are improving the lives of many sweatshop workers around the world (Dreier Appelbaum, 2006, pg.
122). Another example would be that for years Ottawa has been trying to ensure that goods purchased
by the city are not from sweatshops, and meet universal labour and environmental standards. Ottawa is

The Effect Of A Trebuchet Arm Length And Counterweight...
Effect of a Trebuchet Arm Length or Counterweight Mass on Projectile Distance A trebuchet is a siege
weapon most commonly used in the middle ages. It uses gravity to propel an object. There are
competitions held today called Pumpkin Chunkin which use trebuchets to launch pumpkins as far as
possible. The common question is what the dimensions should be when making it. Should the arm be
longer or shorter? Should the counterweight be heavier or lighter? These questions have been asked by
competitors in trebuchet competition as well as engineers. And this is why the project is in the field of
mechanical engineering. The way a Trebuchet works is that a counter weight drops which pulls the
arm forward and at the point of takeoff a pin releases the object that is being projected. The
counterweight drops using gravity and is attached to the arm causing it to fly up and launch the object.
Engineers have had previous experience in this field because of the world wide trebuchet launching
competitions. One example of engineers making this trebuchet are the engineers from team NASAW
in the Pumpkin Chunkin competition. Team NASAW has a trebuchet with a heavy weight and a long
arm. There arm and weight start next to each other at the beginning. The weight drops forward and
like a whip the arm swings around and fires the pumpkin into the air at insane speeds. They are one of
the top competitors in the competition and have proven countless times that the design works
wonderfully.

The pit bull dogs are outlawed in Miami Dade County because of the inbred susceptibility to attack
other animals, and because of the danger posed to humans. Miami Dade County code states The
unique history, nature and characteristics of pit bull dogs have been determined to require the special
regulations and provisions contained within this article which the County Commission hereby finds
reasonable and necessary. ( Miami Dade County, 2003)
One stereo type of pit bulls is that they are mean and vicious. Pit bulls are no more vicious than golden
retrievers, beagles or other popular dogs. In a recent study of 122 dog breeds by the American
Temperament Testing Association, Pit bulls achieved a passing rate of 81.7%. That s good or better
than beagles (78.7%), and golden retrievers (81.7%). In these tests dogs are put through a series of
confrontational situations. (Coile, 2001) Any sign of panic or aggression leads to failure of the test.
The achievement of the pit bull dog in this study disproves once and for all the old tired belief that pit
bulls are inherently aggressive to people. Like any breed of dog, a healthy pit bull that is properly
raised will remain loving and friendly.
There are other myths that just horrify people about pit bulls. One myth is about the ability of a pit

A rich tradition from Socrates, Rousseau, Dewey, Piaget and onwards has emphasised the role of
teacher as promoter of questions and exchange within the context of a learning relationship.... Student,
staff, and learner engagement is promoted not by traditional leader characteristics (rational, analytic,
dispassionate) but rather by leaders with emotional intelligence, a coaching orientation, authenticity
and humility.... Making such a personal connection can simply involve talking to students on a more
informal level and engaging with them as people rather than exclusively as students. It also involves
raising our awareness and developing some understanding about the lives of students. Students often
lead complex lives and staff need to understand that wider context: perhaps adjusting to living on their
own for the first time, feeling lonely, making friends, caring for parents, dealing with grief, coping
with a disability or simply juggling other commitments including family life or employment (Harding,

The Source Woman Of A Great Family And The Virgin Suicides...
Primary Source Paper For this primary source paper, I decided to write a comparison on the source
Women s Place in Renaissance Italy: Alessandra, Letters from a Widow and Matriarch of a Great
Family and The Virgin Suicides written by Jeffrey Eugenides. Immediately reading the first paragraph
of Women s Place in Renaissance Italy, it strongly resonated with The Virgin Suicides in a way. I
thought these two would make an interesting comparison due to the way they both address men, death,
complexity of being a female, and family.
In the primary source, it talks about women from the upper class who gain prestige and power through
widowhood. While lower class women had more freedom in their early life with work and marriage,
upper class women were pressured to keep the wealth going throughout generations which led to a
great deal of pressure to marry a rich man and benefit from that in any way that they could. The source
focuses on a woman named Alessandra, who lived in the years between 1450 1465; married a wealthy
merchant, named Matteo Strozzi, who then died of the plague thus leaving her with branches of
businesses all across Europe and a sudden new access to these things that her husband previously took
charge of. She talked to her sons about their role in the family with political, marital, and economical
issues and duties for the family. She talked to her daughters about the men they should strive to marry
and the duties they have at home that they should learn and do to

Role of Arbitration and Mediation in the Legal System
Part1: Arbitration and mediation In general, arbitration is a more formal method of alternative dispute
resolution than mediation. Arbitrators generally act similar to a judge and make decisions about
evidence and give written opinions, which can be binding or non binding (Mediation versus arbitration
versus litigation, 2008, Find Law). There may be one or more arbiters selected by both sides, or a third
selected by the mutual arbiter. The methods deployed are often very similar to that of a court room. In
contrast, mediation is generally conducted before a single mediator who does not judge the case but
helps facilitate a discussion and eventual resolution of the dispute (Mediation versus arbitration versus
litigation, 2008, Find Law). Mediation has a high success rate, but this may be due to the fact that
parties which select mediation tend to be less polarized. Both forms of ADR can be advantageous,
given that they are less costly and also can keep the anger involved to a minimum. A compromise can
be reached that is mutually advantageous to both sides, and alternative solutions can be found that will
not necessarily be allowed in a more formal jury system. Mediation and arbitration can also be
embarked upon more quickly than a lawsuit, which enables the parties involved to engage in dialogue
before conflicts get out of hand. And in some disputes, such as divorce, there are often many grey
areas, with no clear, single person who is in the wrong or right.

Impact Of The King Of Jazz
INTRODUCTION The term King of Jazz was widely use at Jazz Age. 1920s, James Reese Europe
and Paul Whiteman have been labelled as King of Jazz by mass media as they had done something
very significant in jazz history. This term, King of Jazz, also allowed them being recognised and
discussed a lot by public at that time, their music also being concerned and heard by a lot of people.
Although most of the society agreed on them, criticisms still occurred. Those criticisms came from
black musicians who thought they were only the real musicians and their music were the only real

An Oral Interview With Vanna Moore Essay
Reflection Paper
On September of 2016, I did an oral interview with Vanna Moore about her military past and Vanna s
ties to Texas. Over the whole interview, I asked her questions about her experience in Afghanistan and
how it shaped her views of her state of Texas. Through her interview, Vanna touched on her feelings
about Texas, the military, American culture, and life after military. At times, she seemed comfortable
and at ease sharing her thoughts, and other moments seemed more difficult to get through. This
interview helped me to understand that military service can really shape a person s world view, both
abroad and at home. Additionally, after this oral interview experience I feel like I know how to
effectively use oral histories in my future classrooms. During the beginning of the interview I asked
Vanna What do you think the difference is between West Texas and other regions of the state? At first,
her answers consisted of a lot of umms , but after she got more comfortable, she said, So, it s kinda
like our own little world. ... The people are like, are more like small town people, they re...more like
hospitable. Vanna described West Texans as hospitable and having small town behavior. The small
town mindset, that Vanna referred to is what Hollywood has portrayed time after time. Also, in the
same response she said Well, obviously, we re nothing but oil field, mesquite trees and it s dry, and
you go to East Texas, and there is humidity, and green grass, and

Candles Research Papers
Candles are very interesting to learn about. The history of candles go way back. They even have
candles made of tallow (fat from rendered animal fat). Well now in modern times they are mostly
made of wax. Now don t get confused because there are many different types of wax you can use.Now
lets have a jouney down the memory of candles.
Wick
Wick is the little string pointing out of the candle. When you set it on fire the heat travels to the body
of the wax and instantly turns into a liquid and vaporizes. During this process the heat travels 3
different ways at once. These processes are known as conduction, convection, and radiation.
Conduction carries heat down the wick to melt more wax at the top of the candlestick. Convection
draws heat ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It has no viscoelasticity, it can be polished, it burns with a sooty flame, it s a poor conductor. All the
light a candle makes comes from a chemical reaction called combustion. Candles can also be made out
of beeswax, cream wax, paraffin wax, gel wax, bayberry wax, palm wax, and soy wax. Candles wax
will be used for future decades coming up.
How Candles Are Made and What of Candles can be made out of wax or something called tallow.
Tallow is a hard fatty substance made from rendered animal fat. Tallow consist of a chemical combo
of fatty acids with glycerin. A little borax added or phosphorus is sometimes added to make the ash
fusible. Different types of candle wax burns at different temperatures. The harder the wax the longer
the burn time. The color of the candles makes little to no difference in how fast a candle burns
(colored candles burn faster).
Conclusion
Candles were made by the Romans beginning about 500 BC. With the growth of candles we now
make them out of wax instead of tallow as listed above. The manufacture of candles became an
industrialized mass market in the mid 19th century. Candles were once and now but not that much
used as a source of light before electricity was discovered, and the light bulb discovered.Overall
candles have a very interesting background that most people don t even know about but after reading
this you should be fully packed with a good explanation of

The Importance Of Motherhood
Being a mother is a lifelong commitment that will bring many smiles and tears; making this sacrifice
requires a person to always be on call, pull overtime daily, lose sleep at times, anddo daily chores that
come along with this lifestyle, making motherhood a full time job. Somemothers may have to work
for financial reasons or some may choose to work simply because it is what they love to do. Society
screams that it is no one s place to tell anyone who to be, where to work, or how to raise their kids, but
this is the mask they wear as they cultivate their own opinions. They teach the selfish way of thinking
as well as going against the natural when intruth there is nothing more natural than motherhood. In
fact, the words mother and selfish do not belong in the same sentence together. The decision of being
just a full time mom or to hold down a job, is up to an individual based from their opinions, and their
opinions alone; however, most women do not consider the fact that the choice they are making affects
more than themselves now that the life choices of another is in their hands. Society s view on women
has drastically changed in the last century. For example, acentury ago it was expected of mothers to
stay at home and care for their children; onlyunmarried women (also meaning women without
children) could be teachers. Whereas today many women and mothers alike are teachers, doctors,
lawyers, or hold one of many other positions that they once could not obtain. Feminist

The Power Of The Grotesque
The Power of the Grotesque in Literature It is often said that beauty is within the eye of its beholder. A
statement this broad, begs the question, what is the true definition of beauty? Writers such as
Sherwood Anderson and Thomas Mann depict the beauty of life through the usage of the grotesque.
The grotesque is used to reveal the absolute truth and reality of humanity. However, no matter how
terrifying these truths may be, it is evident that the messages depicted and the passion evoked through
them are truly beautiful. Winesburg, Ohio is a collection of short stories by Sherwood Anderson. The
episodic stories have a wide range of character types and messages and yet, they all share the common
theme of the grotesque. Similarly, Death in Venice the novella by Thomas Mann follows a burdened
artist, Gustave Aschenbach who struggles with repressed desires that are slowly liberated throughout
the story. Both Anderson and Mann use the grotesque to explain the true nature of society, their
characters, and to evoke emotion from their readers especially through the theme of obsession.
In order to truly understand the grotesque and its usage, readers must first know its complex history,
meaning, and usage. Due to its wide range of usage, the definition of grotesque changed numerous
times throughout history. In literary uses, it can be defined as an expression of the estranged or
alienated world...an attempt to control and exorcise the demonic elements in the world (Thomson).

Factory Farmed Animals Summary
In his article Puppies, Pigs, and People Eating and Marginal Cases , Norcross makes the argument that
buying factory raised meat and eating it can be morally compared to obtaining puppies and torturing
them to extract cocoamone hormone for gustatory pleasure. He also states that meat eaters that come
to this realization should turn vegetarian. According to people who disagree with Norcross, they argue
the fact that factory farmed animals are not puppies, most consumers do not torture or kill the factory
farmed meat, and becoming vegetarian will not really make an impact and prevent animal suffering. If
majority of the US population switched their diet to become vegetarian, there would be less animal
suffering and would lead to a big impact

The Grapes Of Wrath Analysis
Over the course of The Grapes of Wrath, John Steinbeck, the author, breaks the narrative by chapter. It
s broken between the Joad family, the general farming population that was forced to move, and
usually another specific set of people that aren t necessarily pertinent to the story line and don t
usually stick around for more than a couple of chapters, but are used to show another perspective on
the subject matter, like Al and Mae, the cook and the waitress at one of the diners. While it seems that
the general chapters are used to put the Joads into perspective, it is more likely that the real story is
that of all of the farm families moving and that the Joads were actually only an example, an anchoring
point even, in the book, like in the

Lab Report On Yeast Fermentation
Fermentation Lab
Jocelyn Birt

Fermentation Lab
Abstract: This lab s purpose was to see how different levels of yeast, distilled water, and sugar interact
to affect the level of carbon dioxide evolved in fermentation. In this experiment we had two sections.
The first section tested four test tubes with varying levels of yeast, glucose and distilled water for
evolved carbon dioxide levels. The tubes were timed for 20 minutes. The amounts of solution in the
test tubes are noted in the methods section of this lab report. The second section of the lab used three
test tubes and flowed the same procedure except added spices. The levels of ingredients are also in the
methods section. The main goal of this experiment was to see the effects of yeast concentration.
Introduction: Cellular respiration and fermentation are used in cells to generate ATP. All cells in a
living organism require energy or ATP to perform cellular tasks (Urry, Lisa A., et al. , pg. 162). Since
energy can not be created (The first law of thermodynamics) just transformed, the cell must get its
energy from an outside source (Urry, Lisa A., et al. , pg.162). Totality of an organism s chemical
reactions is called metabolism (Urry, Lisa A., et al., pg. 142). Cells get this energy through metabolic
pathways, or metabolism. As it says in Campbell biology, Metabolic pathways that release stored
energy by breaking down complex molecules are called catabolic pathways (Urry, Lisa A., et al. pg.

Essay on Exploiting Music Publishing Copyrights
Music Publishing Essay Over the past fifty years, the British Music Publishing industry has undergone
dramatic changes. It has evolved as an entity with innovations in technology, changes and creations of
laws and new mediums to promote and exploit songs to a wider audience. Therefore, the way in which
the music publishing industry operates and exploits its assets has completely transformed, and
continues to do so at a rapid pace. This paper will attempt to explore the ways in which publishers
exploit song copyrights and the way in which this has changed over the past 60 years. It is important
to define what is meant by copyright and its role within the industry. The Performing Right Society
website states: Copyright ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It is vital for a publishing company to register with all relevant collection societies, who would obtain
royalties in the territory they operate in. In the United Kingdom, a music publisher will typically
assign its rights to the Performing Right Society, who would collect all the public performance
royalties on the publisher s behalf. This is lucrative for publishers, as any space that is open to the
public wanting to use music must acquire a public performance license.
The ways in which intellectual property has been exploited through public performance over the past
50 years have significantly changed. During the 1960s, the BBC monopolized the radio industry with
national and regional programs, until the emergence of offshore pirate radio. This caused the BBC to
rename its stations and reintroduce local radio in order to counter the success of the illegal stations.
1973 introduced commercial radio, which saw a large increase of stations and shows available. This
had a big impact on music publishing companies, as they could access a much wider audience through
the larger range of outlets to exploit their songs, and subsequently receive performance royalties.
Radio expansion has increased throughout the years with the introduction of DAB radio, and internet
radio stations.
Furthermore, the expansion of television

John Keynes And Friedrich Hayek
John Keynes and Friedrich Hayek where two of the most influential economic minds of the 20th
century. Each of these men s ideas had a great impact on the economy of numerous countries and
helped countries find economic success different times. Keynes and Hayek had opposite ideas on what
created a working economy that would be successful and avoid economical depressions like that of the
United States great depression and the European depressions that resulted from the two World Wars.
Keynes believes that the best way to maintain a strong economy was to have government
micromanage any and all aspects of the economy. He believes that in order to maintain full
employment of citizens, countries must spend money to create jobs and to help struggling companies.
Hayes believes that this was not the answer and would only result in more problems. Hayes felt that a
market will be able to take care of its self and in order to ensure this government needed to avoid
intervention to allow for a free economy to develop. During the time of war Keynes ideas were more
successful because the government was able to make a large quantity of jobs for people through goods
needed for the war. Since Keynes ideas were so widely used and accepted at this time, Hayek s ideas
were rejected and considered bad because the purposed to do the opposite. After the good 30 years
Keynes economic ideas began to show flaws through inflation and unemployment rates. This issue
resulted from the restriction

Spiderman Kakalio Summary
The book began with the topic of mechanics, first by diving into one of the most well known
superhero stories Superman. Kakalios explains the physics behind Superman s powers, and ultimately
reveals that the science fiction story actually has some facts backing it up. Next Kakalios goes into
one of the greatest comic book controversies of all time the death of Spiderman s girlfriend, Gwen
Stacy. By doing some calculations and throwing in a brief explanation of the topic, Kakalios not only
proves that the death was realistic, but also the reasons why. While still on the topic of Spiderman,
Kakalios reserves the next chapter to provide an explanation behind Spiderman s most, for lack of a

It starts out by revisiting The Flash in a discussion about how much food he must eat and why. The
chapter also explains why The Flash is able to breathe whilst running at such high speeds. Next
Kakalios dives into the topic of thermodynamics by talking about a superhero called The Atom. He
then uses X Men to help explain conduction and convection. Kakalios next goes on to explain the
physics behind the battles between Iron Man and The Melter using a lesson on phase transitions. He
then talks not about a superhero, but actually a super villain one that goes by the name of Electro.
Kakalios uses Electro a villain with the power to shoot lighting bolts to explain the subject of
electrostatics. The next chapter explains why Superman has a much greater understand of physics than
Spiderman at least as far as electrical currents go. The section ends by spending a few chapters on the
relationship, and even similarities, between Electro and Magneto by explaining magnetism,
electromagnetism, light, Ampere s Law, and Faraday s

Leon Trotsky aka Lev Davidovich
Leon Trotsky also known as Lev Davidovich Bronstein was born on November 7, 1879.
He was born in Yanovka which is now known as Ukraine. When Trotsky was about eight years old his
parents sent him to Odessa school, which is a major cultural center of multi ethnic population. When
he started his last year of schooling, which was when his life as a revolutionary began to take shape. It
was in Nikolayev at the age of 17; Trotsky started to skip school and was going to talk with political
exiles and also began reading pamphlets and books to get more acquainted with Marxism. Getting to
know the subject more, he began to get more ideas in his head about the revolution and so it didn t
take long for to start planning something so he saw that something wasn t right with the workers
union, and then saw that no one was doing anything about it. So in 1897, Trotsky decided to help
found the South Russian Workers Union and for his activities with this particular union he was
arrested in January 1898, that s when he joined the Social Democratic party. Leon Trotsky had to serve
two years in prison but after those two years he was trailed and exiled to Siberia. At a transfer prison
Trotsky met Alexandra Lvovna, also a co revolutionary who had also been sentenced to four years in
prison; they got married and then had two daughters while they were in prison. After serving only two
years of his four years in prison, Trotsky escaped and was smuggled out of town and was given a

Bailey And Casey
Question: Bailey and Casey spend a lot of time interacting online. They re Facebook friends and
follow each other on Twitter and Instagram, as well as playing online games together. Unbeknownst to
Casey, though, Bailey is not a human being. Bailey is a computer program. Given that Bailey is
maintaining this sort of complex relationship with not just Casey, but an entire network of online
friends (none of whom suspect that Bailey is not human), are we justified in concluding that Bailey
has a mind? Antithesis: No, Bailey does not have a mind. Objection 1: Because Bailey is a computer
program, she has no mind. The entirety of her existence has been created in a lab and could easily be
stored on a chip. Bailey s entity occupies no physical space, has no body, and has no actual brain. Due
to this, Bailey is not able to be conscious because ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
However, since she is capable of simultaneously maintaining relationships with numerous people
besides Casey, Bailey does not have a mind because human beings are unable to do the same thing.
Response: Despite the fact that Bailey is not a living, breathing human being but rather a highly
emotional and intelligent entity, I respond that Bailey does have a mind. According to Rene Descartes,
a being s mind is vastly different from its matter. In Bailey s case, she has no physical body but is
apparently still capable of entertaining and conveying many human like emotions using her artificial
mind. The 2013 film Her explored much of this same territory in the sense that artificially intelligent
software programs are capable of having emotions and complex relationships with human beings.
Such a machine as Samantha in Her could have very well passed the Turing Test, which measures a
machine s ability to exhibit intelligent behavior indistinguishable from that of a human. Regardless,

Nadine Gordimer on South Africa
In the twentieth century alone, the world has witnessed oppression in many places, like the South
African apartheid, which literally means apartness (Omond 11). Nadine Gordimer, an esteemed author
and South African native, has lived to see the injustice and conflict her country has experienced during
apartheid rule, which lasted just under a half century. Most of her literary work throughout the decades
of apartheid oppression united under the banner of freedom for the victims of apartheid. Her books
speaking on the dangers and horrors of apartheid, as well as a call for its dismantling earned her a
Nobel Peace Prize for literature in 1991. One of her short stories, Once upon a Time, published in
1989, creatively depicted many issues ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The family is living in luxury, ignorant to the chaos erupting outside of their suburb. They continue to
believe that all was well in the world, when the reality was just outside their trimmed hedges and
green lawns. They believe they are safe with their local neighborhood watch plaque with the words
YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED (Gordimer 190) on it, but when the wife exhibits fear of the colored
people, the husband s reply is equally as toxic: there are police and soldiers and tear gas and guns to
keep them away (Gordimer 190 191). A sentence later shows the true nature of the faulty comfort the
husband gives, buses were being burned, cars stoned, and schoolchildren shot by the police in those
quarters out of sight and hearing of the suburb (Gordimer 191). This only proves to be a
foreshadowing of what is to come, and the actions of the family have direct consequences, in which
their former happily ever after turns to chaos because of their submission to apartheid ignorance. The
third irony is presented with the family s hired hands: they had a housemaid who was absolutely
trustworthy and an itinerant gardener who was highly recommended by the neighbors (Gordimer 190).
During apartheid, white South Africans generally accepted some of the native African peoples as their
housemaids and gardeners, only accepting them if they were responsible and submissive to

The Purpose Of The Individual Mandate The term individual mandate, as a component of the Affordable Care Act, is a mandatory requirement according to which the majority of people in the United States has to have some kind of health insurance. Most specifically, according to the fundamentals of this regulation, any individual who can afford a health insurance policy, but chooses not to do so, will have to pay a fine. Prior to the existence of the individual mandate, health insurance companies had the choice to reject people with health conditions that would potentially incur high costs. Because of this reason, a significant number of people did not have any health coverage. In order to maintain insurance premiums reasonably steady and sustain government cost balanced, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The individual mandate, at this point, presents itself as the most cost effective and affordable way through which reasonably priced coverages are available to the mass population. The bests advantage of the individual mandate, according to Nick Tate, is that it prevents insurance companies from rejecting people because they have a pre existing health condition. Under this provision, all Americans benefit a coverage plan regardless of their health Status. When healthcare companies are legally obligated to accept policy holders with any situation, every single American has the obligation to enroll in a healthcare plan. Therefore, the dilemma of people trying avoid having such a plan disappear as it become illegal to be living without any coverage. Government Subsidies for the Lower Income Individuals To make it easier for every American to enroll in a plan, the Federal government provides lower income taxpayers who do not receive insurance from employers or other sources and do not qualify for an exemption with a premium tax credit to subsidize the purchase of qualified health plans purchased through an Exchange. • 3. Obstacles In The Titans The T.C. William Titans fought and overcame many obstacles throughout the season. Some of these obstacles included racism, the team falling apart, and biased referees. Even though all odds were against them, the Titans pulled through and managed to win the state championship. The first, and main obstacle that the Titans faced was racism. Racism was prevalent throughout the whole movie, but was worst in the beginning as the team had not learned to accept each other yet. White players and parents didn t want black players or a black coach, and many wanted to boycott T.C. Williams for allowing it. Head coach, Herman Boone, solved this at the team s camp by forcing the players to get to know each other, or face practice multiple times a day. Racism continued throughout the movie, mostly from people outside of the team, but there was occasional racial tension within the team. The Titans faced many other obstacles throughout the season, but racism was the biggest one. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... To do this, they decided to sing during their usual warm up, which had the added benefit of distracting the other team during their warm up. Without quickly realizing that the team was falling apart and that they needed to do something to fix it, the Titans wouldn t have been able to win the state ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 5. Janis Branam s Influence On My Life I often wonder why I do the things I do in life. However, when it comes to family traditions, I know exactly why I do them. I come from a very large family, with 6 sisters and 2 brothers the house was always busy. With so many people in and out of our home, the people that come and go and help to shape your lives, I believe it was my mother, Janis Branam, that had the most effect on my life. One of the biggest influences she had on me was the holiday traditions. This may not seem important to most, but looking back on my childhood, that is something that has changed me and made me who I am today. We had green carnations for each of her children to place on her casket and her grandchildren each had a green balloon to send off. I miss her everyday but know she is always with me in every memory and tradition I follow. She has made me know the true meaning of every season in life. There is an indisputable truth that media has the ability to effect the masses. But, the effect of music and the message it is sends to its listeners is not always a positive one. I am aiming to describe how sexism in music is an epidemic in our country today. I ll also be comparing and contrasting different music genres, to see if certain types of music are better or worse than others. A common phrase in media and advertising is Sex Sells , but at what cost? Before examining sexism in the different genres, I d like to take an in depth look at the visual side of the music industry. Music is an auditory medium, but there is an obvious visual side to its market as well. Music videos became popular back in the early 80 s thanks to MTV. Steven A. Seidman wrote an article titled Profile: An investigation of sex‐role stereotyping in music videos , in which he conducted a study, and discovered that male characters were portrayed as adventuresome, domineering, aggressive, violent, and victimize, while females were depicted as affectionate, dependent, nurturing, and fearful than males. He also found that a large percentage of female characters wore revealing clothing and that they initiated and received sexual advances more often than males. • 11. Characteristics Of The Best Restaurant Essay What Makes a Restaurant the Best: Best Restaurants Waiting forever just to taste insatiable food for gratuitous reasons,is what everybody hates. Last time I went to the Chopstick House, the service was terrible, in fact the waitress only came over to our table when we first got there and to give us our food. To makes things worse when my food arrived it tasted like deep fried plastic. Due to this, all restaurants should have certain characteristics in order to be the best. In particular, the feature that make a restaurant a great restaurant is when one leaves the restaurant stuffed every time. One restaurant is Texas Roadhouse. Texas Roadhouse is a steakhouse where an individual can pick however many ounces of steak they deem necessary. This quality tempted me to trump the amount of ounces that I got the last time, but every time the I get to the last few ounces I have to tap out. The fact that they want to beat themselves is not all of it, but the fact that the steak is so juicy they can t stop eating it. So it leaves them maxed out by the time they leave. Another great restaurant is Blaze pizza. Blaze pizza is a build your own pizza place where anyone can pick their own toppings all the way down to the dough. The reason one will leave this place stuffed is because of the unique taste of the pizza being cooked over flames, instead of the stove. The pizza being personal pizza size makes it seem manageable, but really the pizza is pretty big and by the time someone gets to ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The animals that were working on the farm have left because they no longer wanted to live under Napoleon s rule, or died from starvation and cruelty. Napoleon is mad because the animals are gone, the humans are dying and no work is getting done on the farm. Since no one was working and Napoleon was starving he ordered the dogs to kill Squealer for food. Napoleon had turned to cannibalism. The word of Napoleon killing Squealer spread quickly and the animals that escaped were terrified that Napoleon was coming after them. Napoleon eventually ran out of food and is down to his last bottle of whiskey. He decided to venture out and find the animals. He walked around on what was Pilkington s farm. It was destroyed and over grown with weeds. Napoleon and his dogs searched Pilkington s farm all day and were not able find a trace of the animals that ran away. While workers in sweatshops are extremely willing to work in sweatshops, individuals in western nations often advocate for the abolishment of sweatshops. Individuals in the west who argue against sweatshops are often arguing for the interest of dominant groups in society. Arguing against developing countries trying to build their living standards and happiness through low wage production and manufacturing, is actually individuals and groups wanting jobs to stay in the wealthy nations instead of being sent off to low cost nations (Spath, 2002, pg. 125). Advocating for the abolishment of sweatshops is placing a barrier on an individual s right to work (Danaher Henderson, 2001, pg. 128). ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Real life examples would be campuses across the United States, and individual municipalities across Canada advocating against sweatshops, and advocating for sweat free goods. Student activists in universities in the United States have started to disallow purchasing university merchandise from factories that don t respect worker s rights. This push is coming from the United Students Against Sweatshops, who have over the years organized strikes, rallies, and charity events to demand that American universities make stronger policies to disallow clothing for students to come from sweatshops. Pressure from students have made numerous universities support this cause. Furthermore, students have demanded that popular clothing brands like Nike disclose which factories are used to make university merchandise, and Nike did give the locations and names of its factories to the organization. Nike also promised to make sweatshop conditions better. This is an example of how student organizations are getting major companies to improve the conditions in sweatshops, and how major organizations share the view that sweatshops are extremely bad for worker s economic and social human rights. Student organizations in universities are also making companies pay their workers more in order for them to meet the living wage. While this does make prices for merchandise higher, it has a minimal impact on the consumer and a huge impact on the worker. In this way students are improving the lives of many sweatshop workers around the world (Dreier Appelbaum, 2006, pg. 122). Another example would be that for years Ottawa has been trying to ensure that goods purchased by the city are not from sweatshops, and meet universal labour and environmental standards. • 14. The Effect Of A Trebuchet Arm Length And Counterweight... Effect of a Trebuchet Arm Length or Counterweight Mass on Projectile Distance A trebuchet is a siege weapon most commonly used in the middle ages. It uses gravity to propel an object. There are competitions held today called Pumpkin Chunkin which use trebuchets to launch pumpkins as far as possible. The common question is what the dimensions should be when making it. Should the arm be longer or shorter? Should the counterweight be heavier or lighter? These questions have been asked by competitors in trebuchet competition as well as engineers. And this is why the project is in the field of mechanical engineering. The way a Trebuchet works is that a counter weight drops which pulls the arm forward and at the point of takeoff a pin releases the object that is being projected. The counterweight drops using gravity and is attached to the arm causing it to fly up and launch the object. Engineers have had previous experience in this field because of the world wide trebuchet launching competitions. One example of engineers making this trebuchet are the engineers from team NASAW in the Pumpkin Chunkin competition. Team NASAW has a trebuchet with a heavy weight and a long arm. There arm and weight start next to each other at the beginning. The weight drops forward and like a whip the arm swings around and fires the pumpkin into the air at insane speeds. They are one of the top competitors in the competition and have proven countless times that the design works wonderfully. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Primary Source Paper For this primary source paper, I decided to write a comparison on the source Women s Place in Renaissance Italy: Alessandra, Letters from a Widow and Matriarch of a Great Family and The Virgin Suicides written by Jeffrey Eugenides. Immediately reading the first paragraph of Women s Place in Renaissance Italy, it strongly resonated with The Virgin Suicides in a way. I thought these two would make an interesting comparison due to the way they both address men, death, complexity of being a female, and family. In the primary source, it talks about women from the upper class who gain prestige and power through widowhood. While lower class women had more freedom in their early life with work and marriage, upper class women were pressured to keep the wealth going throughout generations which led to a great deal of pressure to marry a rich man and benefit from that in any way that they could. The source focuses on a woman named Alessandra, who lived in the years between 1450 1465; married a wealthy merchant, named Matteo Strozzi, who then died of the plague thus leaving her with branches of businesses all across Europe and a sudden new access to these things that her husband previously took charge of. • 19. Role of Arbitration and Mediation in the Legal System Part1: Arbitration and mediation In general, arbitration is a more formal method of alternative dispute resolution than mediation. Arbitrators generally act similar to a judge and make decisions about evidence and give written opinions, which can be binding or non binding (Mediation versus arbitration versus litigation, 2008, Find Law). There may be one or more arbiters selected by both sides, or a third selected by the mutual arbiter. The methods deployed are often very similar to that of a court room. In contrast, mediation is generally conducted before a single mediator who does not judge the case but helps facilitate a discussion and eventual resolution of the dispute (Mediation versus arbitration versus litigation, 2008, Find Law). Mediation has a high success rate, but this may be due to the fact that parties which select mediation tend to be less polarized. Both forms of ADR can be advantageous, given that they are less costly and also can keep the anger involved to a minimum. A compromise can be reached that is mutually advantageous to both sides, and alternative solutions can be found that will not necessarily be allowed in a more formal jury system. Mediation and arbitration can also be embarked upon more quickly than a lawsuit, which enables the parties involved to engage in dialogue before conflicts get out of hand. And in some disputes, such as divorce, there are often many grey areas, with no clear, single person who is in the wrong or right. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 24. The Power Of The Grotesque The Power of the Grotesque in Literature It is often said that beauty is within the eye of its beholder. A statement this broad, begs the question, what is the true definition of beauty? Writers such as Sherwood Anderson and Thomas Mann depict the beauty of life through the usage of the grotesque. The grotesque is used to reveal the absolute truth and reality of humanity. However, no matter how terrifying these truths may be, it is evident that the messages depicted and the passion evoked through them are truly beautiful. Winesburg, Ohio is a collection of short stories by Sherwood Anderson. The episodic stories have a wide range of character types and messages and yet, they all share the common theme of the grotesque. Similarly, Death in Venice the novella by Thomas Mann follows a burdened artist, Gustave Aschenbach who struggles with repressed desires that are slowly liberated throughout the story. Both Anderson and Mann use the grotesque to explain the true nature of society, their characters, and to evoke emotion from their readers especially through the theme of obsession. In order to truly understand the grotesque and its usage, readers must first know its complex history, meaning, and usage. Due to its wide range of usage, the definition of grotesque changed numerous times throughout history. In literary uses, it can be defined as an expression of the estranged or alienated world...an attempt to control and exorcise the demonic elements in the world (Thomson). ... In this experiment we had two sections. The first section tested four test tubes with varying levels of yeast, glucose and distilled water for evolved carbon dioxide levels. The tubes were timed for 20 minutes. The amounts of solution in the test tubes are noted in the methods section of this lab report. The second section of the lab used three test tubes and flowed the same procedure except added spices. The levels of ingredients are also in the methods section.
