June 3, 2024 Anti-Semitism Letter Sent to MIT President Kornbluth and MIT Cor...Levi Shapiro
Letter from the Congress of the United States regarding Anti-Semitism sent June 3rd to MIT President Sally Kornbluth, MIT Corp Chair, Mark Gorenberg
Dear Dr. Kornbluth and Mr. Gorenberg,
The US House of Representatives is deeply concerned by ongoing and pervasive acts of antisemitic
harassment and intimidation at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT). Failing to act decisively to ensure a safe learning environment for all students would be a grave dereliction of your responsibilities as President of MIT and Chair of the MIT Corporation.
This Congress will not stand idly by and allow an environment hostile to Jewish students to persist. The House believes that your institution is in violation of Title VI of the Civil Rights Act, and the inability or
unwillingness to rectify this violation through action requires accountability.
Postsecondary education is a unique opportunity for students to learn and have their ideas and beliefs challenged. However, universities receiving hundreds of millions of federal funds annually have denied
students that opportunity and have been hijacked to become venues for the promotion of terrorism, antisemitic harassment and intimidation, unlawful encampments, and in some cases, assaults and riots.
The House of Representatives will not countenance the use of federal funds to indoctrinate students into hateful, antisemitic, anti-American supporters of terrorism. Investigations into campus antisemitism by the Committee on Education and the Workforce and the Committee on Ways and Means have been expanded into a Congress-wide probe across all relevant jurisdictions to address this national crisis. The undersigned Committees will conduct oversight into the use of federal funds at MIT and its learning environment under authorities granted to each Committee.
• The Committee on Education and the Workforce has been investigating your institution since December 7, 2023. The Committee has broad jurisdiction over postsecondary education, including its compliance with Title VI of the Civil Rights Act, campus safety concerns over disruptions to the learning environment, and the awarding of federal student aid under the Higher Education Act.
• The Committee on Oversight and Accountability is investigating the sources of funding and other support flowing to groups espousing pro-Hamas propaganda and engaged in antisemitic harassment and intimidation of students. The Committee on Oversight and Accountability is the principal oversight committee of the US House of Representatives and has broad authority to investigate “any matter” at “any time” under House Rule X.
• The Committee on Ways and Means has been investigating several universities since November 15, 2023, when the Committee held a hearing entitled From Ivory Towers to Dark Corners: Investigating the Nexus Between Antisemitism, Tax-Exempt Universities, and Terror Financing. The Committee followed the hearing with letters to those institutions on January 10, 202

The French Revolution, which began in 1789, was a period of radical social and political upheaval in France. It marked the decline of absolute monarchies, the rise of secular and democratic republics, and the eventual rise of Napoleon Bonaparte. This revolutionary period is crucial in understanding the transition from feudalism to modernity in Europe.

Operation “Blue Star” is the only event in the history of Independent India where the state went into war with its own people. Even after about 40 years it is not clear if it was culmination of states anger over people of the region, a political game of power or start of dictatorial chapter in the democratic setup.
The people of Punjab felt alienated from main stream due to denial of their just demands during a long democratic struggle since independence. As it happen all over the word, it led to militant struggle with great loss of lives of military, police and civilian personnel. Killing of Indira Gandhi and massacre of innocent Sikhs in Delhi and other India cities was also associated with this movement.

2. DAY 1 - MONDAY
11/12/2017
After a long and tiring journey during Sunday for all the
delegations, the first day of the Staff Training meeting in
Xanthi Greece included a welcoming ceremony at the
hosting school , 2nd EPAL of Xanthi. The headmaster of
the school Mr Vasilis Tzelepis happily welcomed all the
participant teachers and wished for a productive and
joyful cooperation. During the ceremony each
delegation presented their city, their school and their
educational system. All the teachers of 2nd EPAL and
staff of the educational management of the district of
Xanthi attended the presentations.
After a short coffee break participants officially started
the working sessions. Each partner presented their
previous Erasmus+ experiences and shared proven good
implementation practices. There was a detailed
reviewing of the aprooved application and coordinators
emphasized the main project deliverables to the
partners. It was a fruitful discussion and specific tasks
were shared equally between the partners. Another
important issue discussed were the rules of working,
travelling and hosting with our students. It was accepted
by all partners that the safety of our students should be
the main concern and there were given specific
guidelines about hosting issues. Each delegation
presented the way they adopted the project at their
school and shared working practices with their students.
During the evening participant teachers attended a
guided tour at the Old Town of Xanthi, visited important
highlights and got to know the locals way of living. City
of Xanthi has a long and live cultural tradition with
many cultural groups offering activities to locals and
visitors. Teachers visited one of these groups called
Lykeio Ellinidon and participated in cultural dances
lesson. The building that Lykeio Ellinidon perfoms all
their activities is a renovated 19th century house of a
famous merchandiser. At the upper floor teachers had
the chance to see the very important collection of
traditional folklore suits from all over Greece
The day ended with a dinner at a restaurant in the Old
town of Xanthi with Greek Thracian traditional dishes.
DAY 2 - TUESDAY
12/12/2017
Day 2 of the Staff Training meeting started at school
with the teachers taking part in an activity using their
mobile devices and the app Actionbound. Hosts
designed a digital treasure hunt game that aimed to
introduce the visitors to the main labs of the school and
to propose it as a good practice of using this app with
their students. Teachers worked in teams and answered
quizzes, took photos, recorded small videos as step by
step adventure.
After the game teachers returned to the meeting room
where the training took place by the professor of the
Democritus University of Thrace Sevasti Chatzifotiou.
The main subjects of this day of training were:
- Principles of scientific research methodology
- Declaring research questions
- Types of scientific research
- Scientific research tools-instruments
- Setting the framework of our research
- Defining each partners special research needs and
responsibilities/role on the research
During afternoon and after finishing the work the
university professors, teachers had lunch at school and
returned to the meeting room where they kept working
on issues about our project implementation. These
issues included:
- Sharing of tasks and responsibilities of the project
between the partners
- Preparing the project activities during the meetings
- Preparing a detailed calendar for the project's
meetings
- Financial Issues
Day 2 ended with a dinner in a local restaurant with
traditional Greek cuisine.

3. DAY 3 - WEDNESDAY
13/12/2017
Our day began with a sharing of good practices activity.
Teachers visited a nearby school that has students
coming from the muslim roma community. We had a
very productive discussion with the teachers board and
changed opinions on best ways to intergrate students
from disadvantaged groups. An important result of this
meeting was the agreement between our project and the
school to apply our produced lesson plans on targeted
Roma students.
The day continued with a stop at the archaeological
museum of Avdera, located in the village by the same
name, where visitors can admire some unique exhibits.
We then continued towards the village of Porto Lagos
and the small church of Agios Nikolaos on Vistonida
lake, which is an ideal spot for watching aquatic birds,
such as Flamingoes, Herons, Pelicans, Ducks, Avocets,
Eurasian Coots etc.
Porto Lagos is also an ideal place for us to sample some
mouth-watering sea delicacies and daydream,
surrounded by the sounds and colours of the Thracian
sea.
After the cultural and environmental trip, all the
delegations were invited at the city hall where they had a
meeting with the vice mayor of the city disseminating
our project’s goals. It followed another official meeting
with the managing educational director of the district of
Xanthi for the same reasons. These two meetings were
crucial for the development of our project in order to
engage Xanthi’s local authorities in our goals.
DAY 4 - THURSDAY
14/12/2017
Day 4 was a full working day for the participant teachers.
It was the second day of our training on research
methodology and most important because we moved on
the second phase of the planning of our research. Under
the guidance of the professor of Democritus University
Sevasti Chatzifotiou, teachers worked in groups building
our main research instrument, the questionnaire. A nice
moment of the day was when during a coffee break
break Greek students entered the meeting room and
offered to the teachers local sweets cooked by them.
After many hours of discussions we finally concluded to
a first draft questionnaire with 21 items (questions). We
have all agreed to conduct a pilot study involving 3-5
students from each so that we will be able to identify the
main weaknesses of the research instrument. Results of
the pilot study will be discussed during the next meeting
in Poznan, Poland and the final version of the
questionnaire will be produced there.
Day 4 ended with a delicious dinner in a local restaurant
with traditional Greek cuisine and music.

DAY 5 - FRIDAY
15/12/2017
During the final day of the Staff Training Event meeting,
teachers kept working in the morning on the pilot study
questionnaire discussing issues concerning specific
items. After a short coffee break the coordinators
presented to all the participants the hand-made dolls for
each country that will be used as actors in our future
stop-motion video.
The next steps included a very important discussion
about main issues of our project such as:
-Evaluation of the meeting. Google Forms were
delivered to the participants
-Delivering the certificates of the meeting
-Planning of the future meetings. Finalizing the dates.
-Planning of our future work especially the work that
must be prepared by students and teachers for the
meeting in Poland.
-Preparing the Hymn of the Project
-Logo Contest
-Preparing the scenarios of the stop motion video
-Workshops about teachers
