The document discusses voltage commutation in a step-down chopper circuit. It uses a main thyristor (T1) and auxiliary thyristor (TA) with commutating components like an inductor, capacitor, and charging resistor. When T1 is on, the load is connected across the power supply. The tank circuit then conducts, changing the capacitor polarities. To turn off T1, TA is turned on, applying a reverse voltage to T1. The conduction path is then through the supply, capacitor, TA and load to make the output continuous. Once the capacitor voltage exceeds the supply voltage, the freewheeling diode conducts and the output voltage becomes zero, ready to start the
To turn on a Thyristor, there are various triggering methods in which a trigger pulse is applied at its Gate terminal. Similarly, there are various techniques to turn off a Thyristor, these techniques are called Thyristor Commutation Techniques.

Chopper basically uses a Thyristor for high power applications. The process of turning off a conducting Thyristor is known as commutation. Here Thyristor is turned off by a current pulse that is why it is called a Current Commutated Chopper.
This ppt provides a brief overview on thyristors commonly known as SCRs. V- I characteristics curve, triggering methods, protection methods, series and parallel operations of SCRs, applications are discussed in this slide.
It is based on current transformer description
It's working and applications are present in it ,it also includes videos of it's windings and it's inrush ability of transformer, and also about instrument transformer and it's working with applications.Current transformers are used-in measuring high currents and connected with it in parallel to it

CFD Simulation of By-pass Flow in a HRSG module by R&R Consult.pptxR&R Consult
CFD analysis is incredibly effective at solving mysteries and improving the performance of complex systems!
Here's a great example: At a large natural gas-fired power plant, where they use waste heat to generate steam and energy, they were puzzled that their boiler wasn't producing as much steam as expected.
R&R and Tetra Engineering Group Inc. were asked to solve the issue with reduced steam production.
An inspection had shown that a significant amount of hot flue gas was bypassing the boiler tubes, where the heat was supposed to be transferred.
R&R Consult conducted a CFD analysis, which revealed that 6.3% of the flue gas was bypassing the boiler tubes without transferring heat. The analysis also showed that the flue gas was instead being directed along the sides of the boiler and between the modules that were supposed to capture the heat. This was the cause of the reduced performance.
Based on our results, Tetra Engineering installed covering plates to reduce the bypass flow. This improved the boiler's performance and increased electricity production.
It is always satisfying when we can help solve complex challenges like this. Do your systems also need a check-up or optimization? Give us a call!

Hybrid optimization of pumped hydro system and solar- Engr. Abdul-Azeez.pdffxintegritypublishin
Advancements in technology unveil a myriad of electrical and electronic breakthroughs geared towards efficiently harnessing limited resources to meet human energy demands. The optimization of hybrid solar PV panels and pumped hydro energy supply systems plays a pivotal role in utilizing natural resources effectively. This initiative not only benefits humanity but also fosters environmental sustainability. The study investigated the design optimization of these hybrid systems, focusing on understanding solar radiation patterns, identifying geographical influences on solar radiation, formulating a mathematical model for system optimization, and determining the optimal configuration of PV panels and pumped hydro storage. Through a comparative analysis approach and eight weeks of data collection, the study addressed key research questions related to solar radiation patterns and optimal system design. The findings highlighted regions with heightened solar radiation levels, showcasing substantial potential for power generation and emphasizing the system's efficiency. Optimizing system design significantly boosted power generation, promoted renewable energy utilization, and enhanced energy storage capacity. The study underscored the benefits of optimizing hybrid solar PV panels and pumped hydro energy supply systems for sustainable energy usage. Optimizing the design of solar PV panels and pumped hydro energy supply systems as examined across diverse climatic conditions in a developing country, not only enhances power generation but also improves the integration of renewable energy sources and boosts energy storage capacities, particularly beneficial for less economically prosperous regions. Additionally, the study provides valuable insights for advancing energy research in economically viable areas. Recommendations included conducting site-specific assessments, utilizing advanced modeling tools, implementing regular maintenance protocols, and enhancing communication among system components.
3. Similar to step down chopper.
T1 = Main thyristor, TA = Auxiliary thyristor, L,C = commutating components, Rc =
charging resistor
Assume output current is constant.
Close the switch, initially capacitor short circuited, after 4 - 5 time constants, Vc = Vs.
At t = 0, T1 is on, load is connected across the supply Vo = Vs.
Tank circuit starts conduction ( diode forward bias).
After conduction polarities across capacitor are changed.
D is reverse biased polarities across capacitor are changed.
Upto t2 we completed now we have to turn off the main thyristor.

4. Make TA on, T1 to be off (applying reverse voltage).
To make the conduction continues use free wheeling diode.
In order to make the output continuous, the existing path will be changed as Vs, C,
TA and the load.
Voltage across the capacitor changes.
Now make the voltage across capacitor > Vs.
Free wheeling diode conducts, output voltage becomes zero.
To start next cycle, no need to close switch 's'.
A reverse voltage is applied across conducting SCR due to which current through SCR
becomes zero and it is getting off. Hence it is called voltage commutation.
Other name of this is impulse commutation. It is because a high reverse voltage will
turn off the SCR.
