What is it? Visual Impairment is a term that describes  any kind of vision loss.  According to the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA) of 1997:  A visual impairment refers to “an impairment in vision that, even with correction, adversely affects a child’s educational performance. The term includes both partial sight and blindness.”
Classifications Moderate  - works well with visual aids; often to the extent of eliminating the effects of the impairment.  Severe  - difficulty in a learning environment, even with visual aids, but s/he can use vision to some degree in the learning process.  Profound  - cannot use vision as an educational tool and must rely on their remaining senses
