•Training Aids support learning process.
•Focus of training is learning, resulting in improved
job performance.
•Well chosen training aid/instructional materials can
enhance the effectiveness of the training/learning
process.
•Add variety to the learning process, thereby helping
maintain involvement and motivation;
 What am I trying to achieve?
 Why am I trying to achieve this?
 Who will use the Aids?
 What are the characteristics of learners
trainers?
 What is the essential content of the Aids?
 Planning
 Target Group
 Pre & Post test training Aids
 Effectiveness of the training-Aids
 Printed materials - all texts, handouts and the
like.
 Non-projected materials - a variety of visual
display materials, for example models,
photographic printers, posters, flipcharts and
marker-boards.
 Still projected material - overhead projector
transparencies (view-foils), slides and microfilm.
 Video materials - video-tape, video-disc,
broadcast television and film.

 Audio materials - audiotape, record, compact-disc
and broadcast radio.
 Computer-based materials - these may involve the
application of a computer alone or a computer
used in conjunction with other materials/Online
use of materials
 Handouts-
Method
 Printed material available to the trainee for
individual study Purpose.
 Reading before the learning event
 A summary of the learning event
 Refrence material
Precutions
 Make sure the handout content is relevant
 Make sure the material is up to date
 The content should be appropriate to the trainee
entry behavior.
Advantage
 Accuracy assured
 Encourages trainers to plan
 Saves trainee writing & therefore saves time
Dis-Advantage
 trainee may not read them
 Updating can be difficult
Reminders
 Notes can be added during the session
 Consider distributing handouts prior to a session
 Trainees need time to read handouts
 Refrence material may need updating
Method
 Prepaird drawing or writing
 Purpose
 To illustrate, record, review major points,
keywords, charts, diagrams data
Precutions
 Make sure the board is stable & cleaned
 Make sure lightning & eliminate glare
 Cover the board if work is prepared in advance
Reminders
•Use color chalk for emphasis
•Write or draw boldly
•Use pointer if data became involved
•Stand at the side of the board
•Erase during review or summary
Advantage
•Cheap to buy, run, maintain
•Not a permanent aid
Dis-Advantage
•Poor visibility
•Difficult to preasnt complex diagrams
Method
 Generally as chalk board with different materials
purpose
 To provide a modern, attractive alternative to a
chalk board
Precutions
 The special pens need to be tightly re-capped when
not in use
Advantage
 Cleaner then chalk
 Useful in rooms where dust can damage
equipment.
 Better visibility than chalk board
Dis-Advantage
 Dry wipe pens
 Expensive dry out un-healthy
 Higher Cost
Method
 Prepared similar to a chalk board but usually free
standing Purpose
 Can provide a record of the content of the learning
event for later use
Precautions
 Make sure the borad is high enough for audience to see
 Pre-written notes in pencil can be read by the trainer
but not seen by the audience
 Use prepared material effectively, rehearse sequence &
timing at least once.
Reminders
 Breif & keep it simple
 Use pointer if data became involved
 Avoid the tearing sheets off the pad, turn it.
 Small size of a flip chart paper limits how much
can be displayed
Advantage
 Material can be prepared, saved, reused, copied
 Individual sheets may be displayed on wall
Method
 Projection of machine or hand prepared transparencies
or writing or drawing done on blank transparencies .
 To show detailed drawing or information and disclose
the materials in stages.
Precautions
 For really effective projection, a room with ceiling high
enough to permit elevating the screen 5 or 6 feet from
the floor is desirable.
 Make sure the transparencies in proper manner.
 Ensure the projector works, is in focus.
Reminders
 Try to remember to turn off the projector light
before changing transparency.
 Do not allow head or shoulder to get in the
way of the projector image.
Advantage
 High quality possible
 Can be used with a computer
 Trainer can keep the eye contact with trainees.
Dis-Advantage
 Software can be expensive
 Preparation time.
 Power supply issues
Method
 Advance provision for reference or guide in the
study of specific subject matter.
 To provide a firm framework of materials which
the trainee may take away with them keep for
future use.
Precautions
 To be effective, written training materials must
be attractive in format and well illustrated.
