Video Game Addiction Essay
Crafting an essay on the subject of video game addiction is a challenging task that requires a
delicate balance between presenting factual information and addressing the complex nuances
surrounding the topic. The difficulty lies in navigating the fine line between acknowledging the
entertainment and educational aspects of video games while addressing the potential negative
consequences of excessive gaming.
To create a compelling essay, one must delve into extensive research to gather relevant data,
statistics, and expert opinions. The multifaceted nature of video game addiction demands a
comprehensive exploration of psychological, social, and physiological aspects. The writer must
carefully tread through the existing literature to extract credible sources that shed light on both
the positive and negative impacts of video games.
Moreover, the essay should be structured in a way that provides a clear and logical progression
of ideas. Balancing the introduction, body paragraphs, and conclusion is crucial to maintaining
coherence and ensuring that the essay effectively conveys its message. The challenge is to
present a well-rounded argument without oversimplifying the issue or veering into overly
technical jargon.
Additionally, addressing potential counterarguments and alternative perspectives adds another
layer of complexity to the essay. It requires a thoughtful analysis of opposing viewpoints,
allowing the writer to strengthen their position while demonstrating a nuanced understanding of
the subject.
In conclusion, writing an essay on video game addiction demands meticulous research,
thoughtful organization, and a nuanced approach to the subject matter. The challenge lies not
only in presenting a well-supported argument but also in navigating the complexities of a topic
that involves both positive and negative aspects. Crafting such an essay requires a delicate
balance that acknowledges the diverse nature of video games and their impact on individuals
and society.

The House on Mango Street
When I grow up, I want to be a black gum tree. Black gum trees are known for their
internal strength. Instead of dwelling on outward beauty, they spend more time
focusing on their inner growth and developing their core. Only after they have
achieved this goal can they produce beautiful fruits that draw animals near to them.
Any surfaces that the berries touch are stained as to say, I was here and made a
permanent difference. After they have utilized their outward influences, they use
their internal scars and hollow places to protect the animals surrounding around it. If
human lives were to reflect the concepts of the black gum tree, governments,
individuals, and communities would be radically transformed. While this is a
beautiful image,... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Now the slab can be seen as a secondary result deriving from the poor condition of
the roots. The roots of the trees act as a metaphor for the community on Mango
Street, which supports Esperanza s development. Because the roots of the
community on Mango Street are tangled in cycles of tragic abuse, Esperanza is
deprived of the essential social and ethical requirements she needs to grow. When
Esperanza explains that the trees send ferocious roots beneath the ground , she is
implying that the trees are trying to dig deeper in order to find an essential
element for their growth (Cisneros 74). New visitors to her neighborhood roll
their windows up tightly, which shows it is not an environment that allows
children to develop properly (Cisneros 28). Because of the deficit her community
is causing her, she is unable to grow to her full potential, and resorts to digging
deeper within herself just as the roots of the trees do. A problem arises when trees
try to do this because the roots are more susceptible to disease. Keeping with the
metaphor, Esperanza shows symptoms similar to a tree that has attracted the heart
rot disease. This disease is characterized by external problems seeping through the
roots, which lead to the decay of the heartwood of a tree, and eventually its overall
health. Esperanza is obviously being fed infectious ideas from her misshapen
community, and has begun to let it eat away at her heart. This cycle is started by the

Drug Addiction In Nevada
Drug addiction is growing by the day and has affected the lives of countless people
who once led a normal, healthy life. Almost 24% men while 16% percent of
women in America have admitted to abusing at least one type of drug if not all
and the number of teenagers abusing drugs is on the rise. The drug situation in
Nevada is grim and the imported and locally produced meth leads the list of drugs
that concern Nevada. In the urban parts of the state, cocaine especially crack
cocaine is being abused on a large scale while clubs drugs have become a regular
feature of number of nightclubs out there. Its close proximity to California makes it
an important transshipment point for smuggling drugs, which is why drugs are
available in abundance in Nevada.
Almost all addicts love to believe that they can easily control their addiction however
this is not true, as they suffer from severe withdrawal symptoms when they give up
or reduce the frequency of drug use. Addiction causes substantial changes in the brain
that remain for a long time even when a person stops abusing drugs. As a result,
addicts need much more than will power to overcome their addiction. For complete
recovery, addicts not only need to fight the cravings, but also learn to resist all those
stimulants from the past that can take them back to where they started. Nevada has

Introduction Critical Infrastructure Protection is not just a national issue but also a
global responsibility. Perl Report introduces the importance of International

between nations to share necessary scientific knowledge helpful in mitigating
vulnerability. For example, the agreement between German and Homeland Security

Critique of the Report
Perl, (2008) presents an interesting report that discusses the terrorist threat to critical
energy infrastructure. He goes further to suggest options for a response as well as
identify some needs for a proper response. As much as the presentation is precise and
easy to understand, the author fails to provide the much needed evidence to back his
thoughts. For instance, he seems to over emphasize that energy infrastructure is more
critical than another unit, yet fails to provide sufficient description of the
The Sweatshop Industry and Child Labour in NIC s Essay
The Sweatshop Industry and Child Labour in NIC s
This report is aimed at investigating if the two major TNC s Nike and Gap
manufacture their products according to their code of vendor conduct. Both
companies code of vendor conduct clearly states that no workers are employed under
the legal minimum age and sweatshops don t exist in their factories.
A sweatshop is a factory where employees are subject to extreme exploitation; they
work in dreadful conditions with health and safety hazards, for little pay and long
hours. Child labour is, as the word suggests, when children under the legal minimum
age are employed to work

This excuse hinders outsiders knowing exactly what is happening inside the
factory. People didn t want to tell us about the factories whereabouts either, as they
were scared of getting physically assaulted by the security men surrounding the
factory. At last we found a factory called June Textiles, which manufactured
products for both Nike and Gap, but no one would tell us more than that. Checking
treatment of workers here was going to be a huge task. The factory was well
guarded and looked like any ordinary factory from the outside, but at that time we
didn t know what harsh realities workers were facing inside the factory.
We needed to talk to the workers on home turf, away from the security men
surrounding the factory. Late at night we got a call from a couple of workers who
said they were prepared to speak to us, if we met them after their shift, at their home.
For them to talk openly about the conditions in the factory was a big step.
This was the one of our first big surprises, 8 women were living together in a tiny
little room which on a regularly basis had power cuts and was without running
water. As we interviewed them they told us that Nike and Gap treat them as dirt,
they work 16 hours a day, which is 112 hours a week. This contradicts with Nike and
Gap s code of vendor conduct, which says ВґВґOn a regularly scheduled basis

Exclusion And Perseverance In Remember The Titans
In the movie Remember the Titans the theme was exclusion and Perseverance.
Exclusion played a huge role in the movie because they left each other out due to
racism.(23:20) Everyone arrives at the coach s door and congrats him on the new
head coach position but they were all black people. That is an example of exclusion
because they were talking about how they did not want white people playing for the
team. They did not wanna play football together nor did they want to associate with
each other. In Remember the Titans the theme was exclusion. They left each other out
and discriminated against each other to the point where they hated each other. The
reasons for that is because they were of a different raceand they blamed things on

Horatio Alger Myth Research Paper
The Horatio Alger myth is one of the oldest myths in the history of the United
States of America. Horatio Alger was a 19th century author who wrote short stories
that all had the same universal theme: a young man rising from a poor childhood to
become a successful adult. Alger s stories were enormously popular during his time
and continue to be so today with the term Alger Myth become a household saying.
The popularity of Alger s stories is not surprising when one considers America has
consistently pushed the notion that anyone can achieve success if they work hard.
Every child in America is told at some point in their life that they can be anything
they want to be. This myth is as much a part of American culture as apple pie or
baseball.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
[Logical transition needed here such as Yet, ] The poverty level in America is
absurdly high and produces a large group of children who grow up in an
environment where everybody is struggling to get by on a day to day basis. These
children have no actual tangible evidence that somebody from their neighborhood
can achieve the type of success they dream of. The only hope they have comes
from the Alger Myth or other such fables that describe rags to riches stories. The
Alger Myth is thus a useful tool for the American upper class, in the sense that it
gives the lower class a hope for their future and in the process helps to prevent any
attempt by the lower class to overthrow the current economic system, which
produces this huge disparity between the rich and poor. [Good. This effectively
politicizes and enlarges the issue.] This would almost be an acceptable practice if
the Alger Myth was true and everyone did have a chance to succeed regardless of
race, sex, or affluence. [Again, emphasize the contrast with a transition: But, ] The
Alger Myth , like many popular American myths, is in fact a fallacy as the facts
simply show there is no evidence to support an equal playing field for every

Complete stone retrieval without fragmentation was achieved in 83.3% in group I and
82.2% in group II. Stone migrated proximally in 4 patients in group I and only 2
patients in group II in whom procedure ended by ureteral stenting.
Mucosal injury was observed in 3 patients and 4 in groups I and II respectively.
Thirty seven patients from group I reported that they were satisfied by the procedure
and its outcome compared to 78 patients in group II.
Conclusion: Emergency ureteroscopic intervention under intravenous sedation is
feasible, safe and effective when compared to elective ureteroscopy for small lower
ureteral stones.

Student Loan Debt And Consumer Choice
Student Loan Debt and Consumer Choice In today s society, student loans are
haunting the lives of millions of postgraduates all over the United States. Students
who have carelessly taken out loans and those in serious need of financial aid for
their college education are now burdened with thousands of dollars worth of debt. As
the student debt average continues to increase in our nation, the budgets of
postgraduates begin to dwindle and the amount of defaults grow dramatically. With
the large student debts our young adults are now dealt with, recent graduates are
forced to compromise certain aspects of their quality and standard of living after
graduation. Our nation s recent graduate s budgets are being directly affected by the
student loandebt and interest accrued during and after their college careers. Student
loans are a form of financial aid given by federal and private organizations designed
to help fund the student s tuition, housing, books, and other expenses. Student loans
are primarily given to those who are in most need of financial assistance. The
interest rates that accompany these loans are relatively lower than those of credit
cards, housing and auto loans, because these loans were meant to be quickly and
easily paid off. With federal interest rates fixed at as low as five percent and private
loan interest rates decreasing, it comes to question: why is the amount of student loan
debt in our nation increasing so rapidly? And with the amount of student loan

There Was No Medicine For The Sick
It had been eight months since the lights had gone out in Georgia. The first two
months there was massive chaos throughout the state, especially in the large cities
such as Atlanta. The next two months after that the massive die offs started to
happen for various reasons. There was no medicine for the sick; there was disease,
murder, gang wars, starvation, and no water. Communities were setting up their own
security, and most communities were set up by race. Of course, there were the
exceptions and they tended to be the more successful ones. Eventually, those
communities were small and left the area feeling they were unwelcome and under
threat of violence. However, there was some semblance of sanity as many of the
cities and towns started to set up their own militias for protection. The largest militia
in the region was the Atlanta Militia, made up of former law enforcement and some
prior military. They had raided the policestations, what were left anyway, for
weapons, as well as National Guard Armories. The Atlanta Militia was organized in
typical military fashion with a brigade, battalion, and company. They trained and
trained hard. They were overseen by civilian leadership that took the form of a
council. There was no mayor, only the council, who made decisions in a very
democratic way, with whatever had the most votes. The Atlanta Militia had a military
personnel structure. At the lead was Colonel Melford Grayston, a former Army
Officer and West Point
Essay On Electoral Politics
In post colonial India, electoral politics has been strongly influenced by caste, class,
location and in few cases, indigeneity. The domination of a specific group either
economically or socially privileged or backward in politics can alter the allocation of
resources. Multiple scholars (Jaffrelot, 2003; Varshney, 2000; Banerjee Somanathan,
2006) write that among the historically disadvantaged social groups in India, those
that mobilized themselves politically gained relative to the others. For instance, in the
1980s, the SCs established a successful caste based party (Bahujan Samaj Party
[BSP]), significantly increased their representation in national politics and allowed
them to extract more public resources from the state than... Show more content on

Currently, India is ruled by the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), a Hindu right wing
nationalist party, which has increased tensions between Hindus and Muslims and
contributed to a polarizing atmosphere. BJP also rules eight of the nine states which
have the highest maternal mortality rates, therefore, polarization of politics has the
potential to affect utilization of maternal health services. However, in this context,
I find myself contradicted by Bowleg (2012, p. 1270), who writes that
intersectionality was not developed to predict behavior . Nonetheless, the linkages
between a polarized political atmosphere and access to maternal health services can
be an area of further research. While the linkages between domination of groups and
allocation of resources is critical, the situation is more complex at the constituency
level. Within a state, there is a high prevalence of clientelism i.e. constituencies
which have legislators from the ruling party receive a larger share of public
resources as they utilize their political influence to deliver additional public projects
to their home constituencies to cultivate political support. However, communities
that are best served by government are those that possess both top down political
connections to the ruling party, as well as high levels of grassroots local democratic
mobilisation needed to place pressure on local politicians to deliver services

The Cost of Pharmaceuticals: Prescription Drug Prices and Retail Mark Up
Diandra Hopkins American Public University Anyone who has purchased
prescription medication has probably wondered why they cost so much. The
pharmaceutical industry consist of thousands of firms engaged in one or several
functions of discovering, developing, manufacturing and marketing medicines for
human use. The price paid to a retail pharmacy for a drug is negotiated by the PBM
(Pharmacy Benefit Manager) and the pharmacy or pharmacy chain. The pharmacy is
left with an option of refusing the business, raising its prices for cash customers or
reducing its operation margin. Rising prices for goods encourage producers to find
ways of supplying more also guiding purchasers to switch to cheaper alternatives. The
price mechanism encourages the productive and careful employment of scarce
resources and directs innovative efforts where they are most needed. Analyses of
pharmaceutical pricing are complicated by the intricacies of this market. The process
by which drug prices are determined is highly complex, involving numerous
interactions and arrangements among manufacturers, whole salers ,retailers, insurers,
pharmacy benefit managers (PBMs), and consumers. There are many instances, a
manufacturer will provide a cash rebate to an insurer or PBM if the manufacturer s
drugs are used by the insurer s or PBM s enrollee. Consequently, information about

The Evolution and Importance of Reconnaissance
Satellites...
After the U 2 incident of 1960, more emphasis was placed on safer methods of
acquiring reconnaissance imagery. The first photographic reconnaissance satellite
program was the codenamed Discovery. These first satellites could see objects as
small as 35 40 feet and once they ejected their film capsule, the satellites were forced
to reenter and burn up in the atmosphere. The latest declassified satelliteis from the
late 1970s and can focus on objects as small as 5.5 inches. Instead of using a film
canister, the KH 11 series of satellites uses a digital sensor and communications
satellites. Because of the classified nature of these satellites, little is known about the
latest generations of satellites. However, from what the public does... Show more

CORONA, the codename for program for the first generations of satellites,
allowed the United States to have relatively recent imagery of any place on the
globe. From 1960 to 1972, some form of the CORONA system was in orbit. In
1962, the fourth generation was given the name KH 4 (Key Hole, like looking
through to see), and the previous generations were retroactively given the
preceding numbers. KH 1 through KH 4B flew 144 missions, returning usable
film 102 times. The retrieval method was one that we would call unorthodox today,
but without a way to transmit the data easily back to earth a different system
would need to be developed. After the several thousand foot roll of film was shot,
it was ejected from the satellite in a reentry vehicle. The capsule would reenter the
atmosphere and deploy a parachute. This would then ideally be caught by a
special plane. If the plane was unable to recover the capsule, a military ship was

Ecology Essay: The Dog
There are dogs everywhere around the world. Some dogs vary in size and shape. Do
you know there are about 340 dog breeds known. Many new dog breeds are being
discovered today. The dog is also very popular around the world. There are about
thirty seven dog breeds that are extinct. The English White Terrier, Hare Indian Dog,
Hawaiian Poi Dog, and the Norfolk Spaniel are just a few of the dog breeds that
have gone extinct. Some of the dogs breeds that have gone extinct was caused by
humans. Some dog breeds became extinct because they were not needed by humans.
For example, the Hare Indian Dog was a hunting dog, but as soon as firearms were
being made, they were not needed. Believe it or not, the dog is actually in

media in promoting Public Diplomacy of China in Zanzibar. The chapter also gives

In every society in this world, media plays a very important role as sources of
information on what is occurring not only within the local community but also in
international in the formation of public opinion and have been recognized as
constitutive of social reality in modern society . Media thus act as a mirror that

As many parts of the world do not welcome or otherwise lack access to global or
regional media directly such as CCTV, it was clearly noticed that most of the
regional or global media houses establishements have limited media effects due to
unavailable or broadcasting via satellite systems which are most of the time very
expensive and commercial oriented hence only few people can afford to subscribe
for the services.
There is no one size fits all policy when it comes to identifying an effective
communication strategy in diplomacy, whether it is in its narrow sense of official
negotiation or understood as public diplomacy.
In order to improve its global image and cultivate an international environment that
would facilitate China s continuous rise in the world, the Chinese government has
developed, in recent years, an aggressive Public Diplomacy program. The extension
of the global outreach of its media has become an essential component in the effort to

The Giver Comparison To A Dystopian Society
Two Become One
Dystopia contains a little utopia, and every utopia contains a little dystopia. It s very
true , a thought by Margaret Atwood, a canadian novelist, stating that in every
society, utopian and dystopian qualities are seen. Margaret brings to account the
controversy of how our world is a dystopia and utopia. There is always an illusion of
a utopia and dystopia in the world, without those illusions the world would not
contain the beauty it is today. In both societies there are similar and different aspects
to a dystopia and utopian world at the cause of suicide, and the abundance of
individuality.
Living in today s society is similar to a dystopian world as a result of immense mental
pain causing suicide. In The Giver by Lois Lowry, Jonas mentor, explains how he

Personalization is important and so is social development which Jonas

Manipulation In A Rose For Emily
A Rose for Freedom
A Rose for Emily written by William Faulkner, symbolizes so much more than what
is said in the text. William Faulkner sets an intense mood at the beginning of the story
when announcing the death of Miss Emily Grierson. Not many stories start off with
death, but in this case, Emily s death is a very important key point to the story. The
narrator manipulates time in the way he tells the story. The narrator starts off with
with Emily s death and continues the story with the past, the late past, and the past
past. This time manipulation is very important to set the themes of the story. There is
not one specific theme, but actually a variety. For example, the time manipulation by
confusing the reader with the past and the present. Another example is the loneliness

The fact that Emily buys a man s toilet set and a complete outfit of men s clothing,
including a nightshirt, symbolizes that Emily truly cared about Homer. Emily uses
these things to set up a decked room as for a bridal in her house, and sets homer s
body in a bed. Homer s body was lain in the attitude of an embrace and next to him
was a pillow with the indentation of a head. This symbolizes that Emily slept with
Homer every night. The biggest clue of all, was the iron grey hair they found on
the bed, which was Emily s. Emily symbolizes the old South because she resists
change in the way that, as she got older, and the world around her changed, she
latches on to her traditions. Tobe s disappearance symbolizes the freedom of slaves
after Emily s death, which symbolizes the end of the Old South. He also disappears
to avoid having to spill Emily s secrets to the town. The rose in The Rose for Emily
symbolizes the true love which Miss Emily never experienced. The house is a huge
symbolism of Emily s isolation because that was all she had, and all her father left
her. It also symbolizes the decaying South and at the end of the story, the house, like

Persuasive Essay On How To Change A Tire On Your Car
How to Change a Tire on Your Car
In 2015, I was dating this girl who had never had been taught how to change a tire,
check her oil, or even add antifreeze to her car. I bring this up because she was on her
way to meet me up at the beach at 5:00am so we could do breakfast on the beach
and watch the sunrise. On her way to the beach her car blew a tire and she called me
freaking out so I had to go meet her and help her change her tire on her car. Now I
felt bad because she had never been taught how to change her tire so she was
stranded at 5am. To help more people from being stranded at various hours of the
day or night I m going to explain to you how to change your tire.
So, you re tires blown what do you do now? First thing you need to do is go make
sure you have a spear tire or a doughnut tire, jack, and tire iron. If you don t have any
of these things call for help. Now if you do have these things make sure you are

get under tour car or are working on your car. Also try to be on as flat of ground as
you can be. Go in too your car and turn the hazard lights on so other cars know you

car dose not start to roll.

The Collapse Of Enron Corporation
When a company ascends to the number seven spot on the Fortune 500 and then
collapses in weeks into a smoking ruin, its stock worth pennies, its CEO, a confidante
of presidents, more or less evaporated, there must be lessons in there somewhere.
Daniel Henninger, The Wall Street Journal
The collapse of Enron Corporation has created many discussions about the structure
of corporate governance. The question of this essay first calls to examine some of the
strengths and weaknesses of the shareholder model of corporate governance and how
the fundamental principles of this model were instrumental in the disintegration of
Enron. In particular, I will discuss Deakin s article about the third position
addressing how Enron s profit driven culture and the executive focus on short term
profitability hindered them from being an ethically and legally driven company for
long term investments (Deakin and Konzelmann). Enron, at its early stages was a
success for the shareholder model but it was that same model that is to blame for the
demise of Enron. I will argue that the adoption of the theoretical characteristics of the
shareholder model helps us identify what could have prevented the downfall of
Enron and how future corporations can learn from what was done and be dissimilar
to Enron.
The Enron case created a reevaluation of corporate governance and a revolution of
accountability between corporation and shareholder. Many theorists believe that the
Enron case showcases the
Greece s Influence On The Modern World

The Greeks started the Olympic games to add a special sporting event, where they
can play multiple types of games in one. Every four years the Greeks held a special
sporting festival at olympos the olympic games. These inspired the modern
Olympic which began in 1896 ( Ellis, Esler 142). The games were started as a
religious festival. The Greeks believed that this would be a good way of honoring
Zeus the king of the gods. The Olympic games had the most impact on the world
today, because the Olympic games had inspired the modern world to start playing
these games every four years. Also that how it was a good way of bringing

Math was used for solving different types of equations. They used mathematics to
derive a formula to calculate the relationship between the sides of a right triangle

type of equations. This had impacted today s modern world because math is used for
education, engineer s, and design artists. Another thing is that the Greeks math had

math has helped people solve solutions back then up to this day. Their solutions
provided the fundamental mathematical building blocks that all future
mathematicians and scientists would build upon right up to the present day

probably won t be any solutions being solved or buildings created. This had impacted
the modern world because all these scientists and mathematicians have solve things

Pros And Cons Of Network Administrator
Abstract
Every Single day it is indeed a full time job for the network administrator to keep up
with the changing technologies. These new technologies come with new challenges,
threats, and vulnerabilities which a smart network administrator must solve to keep
the system secure. The network administrator must keep up with new hacking
techniques, latest countermeasures, and in depth knowledge of company s data to
address the suspicious activities and minimize their effects. But then comes the
question of Ethics. Should the network administrator access employees private emails
or websites logs to ensure company s rules aren t violated? Is it ok to browse
employees documents or graphics files stored on the computers or on file servers?
So, the network administrator has both charms and pitfalls as he has a huge
responsibility to secure the company by carrying out his duties in an ethical way. This
paper explains some ethical and social challenges a future network administrator may
encounter in a company. The paper also introduces some basic ways the new network
administrator can use to maintain a healthy, trustful, and ethical relationship between
his work and the society. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Should he report each and every infraction? How to decide the serious infraction?
So, the administrator should educate himself regarding the company s policies,
relevant laws, and regulations to make good ethical decisions [3]. For example, one
of the employees is selling pirated software to the clients and the other is browsing
educational sites to complete his college homework during office hours. These are
some of the gray areas which require a judgment call. Both the infractions are not
good for the company s growth but the first one is serious and should be reported
immediately to the higher
Solving The Foreclosure Crisis Of Boomerang Buyers
There are three aspects to the damage done to homeowners in the recent foreclosure
crisis. First, their credit ratings were damaged. Second, their personal financial
situations were damaged. And, third, their investment confidence was damaged. All
three aspects of homeowners post foreclosure stress disorder have to be addressed
before boomerang buyers will be ready to return to the mortgagemarket.
In reverse order, the first step is to overcome the lack of confidence that frequently
results from loss of a home to foreclosure. The easiest way to overcome that lack of
confidence is education. Boomerang buyers need to take full advantage of all
resources available to them to learn as much as possible about the current credit and

Coupled with aggressive mortgage marketing was a population of overly flexible

must be especially diligent about understanding all of the requirements and
implications of any new mortgage.
For example, there are mortgage products available through the Federal Housing
Administration, the Department of Veteran Affairs, and Department of Agriculture.
As Greg McBride, senior financial analyst at Bankrate.com, said in 2012, These are
not mainstream programs geared for mainstream borrowers. These loans typically
carry a higher interest rate than conventional mortgages, but conventional mortgages
require a minimum credit score of 720, a significant down payment, and proof of
income. On the other hand, the FHA FICO 500 project established in 2010 permits a
minimum credit score of 500 and a minimum down payment of 10%, and the FICO
580 program requires a minimum credit score of 580, with only a 3.5%
downpayment. Both programs require mortgage insurance, and a surcharge premium
on the outstanding balance.
And, in 2013, the Department of Housing and Urban Development announced a
new rule regarding credit scores and FHA loans: Loan applications for borrowers
with FICO scores below 620 and a
The Tortilla Curtain
The Tortilla Curtain Summary
I thoroughly enjoyed reading the book Tortilla Curtain. The main ideas of the book
are especially significant in the political climate today. The books titles expresses the
main idea of the book. The Tortilla Curtain refers to the physical boundary between
Mexico and the California boarder. It also represents the deeper ideological and
sociological chasm separating the Mexican immigrants and Americans.
The book has two main character Delaney Mossbacher and Candido Rincon. They
live in the same area but have very different upbringing and life s. Delaney is white
and lives in an upper middle class town called Arroyo Blanco Estates in Los

How Does Shakespeare Use Ethos In The Winter s Tale
Words are a tremendously powerful tool that can spark different emotions and
reactions causing us to question our intentions. With such passionate displays of
raw emotions, Shakespeare is able to captivate his audience in The Winter s Tale.
Each character displays such authentic feelings that gives life to each word on the
page, helping the reader develop the sense of power and control our feelings can
often mimic. The best way to interpret the play is to submerge ourselves into these
characters realistic emotions that cling to each word. Shakespeare can connect to his
reader s emotions while by demonstrating with each character how powerful words
can be. His use of pathos in his writing helps connects empathy to the characters
creating reactions... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In the article, The Pedagogy of Emotional Response: Feeling Shakespeare s The
Winter s Tale by James Lambert, he refers to the Cognitive Emotional Pedagogy
which is a a relatively recent theory that maintains that the brain s cognitive
functions are activated by a person s emotional memory and state (28). As in, the
best way to interpret this play is for the readers to develop a sense of feeling to the
play in order to analyzing and learn from it. I believe Shakespeare is able to do that
by demonstrating the influence words have over the characters thus creating the
emotional reactions inside the play that the audience can relate too. For example,
many people can relate to Hermione where they have tried to convince someone
something isn t true but no matter what they say, it will never change. As a teacher, I
want my students to be submerge in this plays ability to use words to manipulate
emotions and put themselves in the character s positions of authenticity and
vulnerably. Lambert also stated, Cognitive Emotional Pedagogy is an exciting and
fertile approach to teaching, but the reason it has not affected higher levels of
education, including university and graduate level training, is probably because it
asks teachers to integrate their own emotional experience with that of the students,
which can result in the discomfort of confession and self exposure. Too often a
student s preconceived emotional state, like anger or depression, is brought to bear
in class discussions rather than their a priori emotional response to a text within the
class (28). I found this quote interesting because it is true, Shakespeare does bring up
emotional text that most people want to avoid because it makes us uncomfortable.
Too often we avoid talking about the hard to deal with
Knights Of Labor Dbq
After the civil war finished American economy went through a period of extra
industrial growth. People had started moving into the cities from rural areas, in
hopes of finding work in the factories. As a result Population of New York Chicago

industries, the owners were looking into maximizing their profits anyway they could,
so they cut the workers wages as low as they could. The American dream of Artisan

The Remarkable British Empire
Over a number of centuries, The British Empire colonized or invaded all but 22
countries in the world. This is an astonishing feat that would make ancient empire
leaders such as Remesses II or Genghis Khan bow down to the power of the
British. Since the Middle Ages, The Royal Class in England desired a wide variety
of exotic spices. The merchants were under so much pressure to try to satisfy the
high demand, that they resorted to committing criminal acts such as piracy in order to
fulfill the demand of the royal class.
In order to truly understand the roots and culture of the British Empire one must
imagine themselves in 400 BC and as a member of one of the countless Celtic
tribes that existed in Britain. The land beneath your feet is some of the most
diverse soil in all of Europe and the landscape is full of trees and grassy plains. In the
book British Food by Colin Spencer, Great Britain s very fertile and rich soil
allowed the possibility for grass to grow year round allowing livestock to graze
green pastures, even in the winter time. Great Britain s soil allowed grains such as
barley, rye, and wheat to grow in abundance. The Celts would use these grains to
produce bread which became the staple of many Celtic and then, Anglo Saxon diets
(14).
The Celtic people were very fond of seasoning their foods with local ingredients
such as onions, garlic, shallots and parsley which grew plentifully in their fertile soil.
The idea of seasoning meals with local ingredients
Fossil Fuels And The Global Warming
When a person walk into a room, flip a switch and the light is turned on, this is due
to fossil fuels. When a person up your computer or laptop to surf the web or do
homework, this is also due to fossil fuels. Fossil fuels control the world as we
know it today from powering our electronic devices, running our cars, improving
our health and taking us into the depths of space. Without fossil fuels, society would
inversely live like the people before the industrial era. However, as revealed just a
few decades ago, fossil fuels are not without unintentional negative consequences.
Even though fossil fuels have transformed the world as we know it, fossil fuels are
scarce and causes ecological destruction through pollution, fracking and global
warming.
Before explaining the hazards of fossil fuels, we must investigate what fossil fuels
are and what fossil fuels yield. Fossil fuels are non renewable resources that
formed when prehistoric plants and animals died and were gradually buried by
layers of rock (Department Of Energy). These fuels are mined from the earth using
methods like oil derricks and coal mines. When these fuels are burned off in plants,
they produce power which is converted into energy and is sent on via power lines
to millions of people. In cars and airplanes, oil is combusted in the cylinders which
propels the crankshafts and runs the vehicle. As a consequence of these fuels being
burned, the residues are dispersed into the air and more fuel is required to
The Ethics And Values Of A Perfect Society
A realistic perfect society
A realistic and ideal society would have three kinds of values. First selfish values,
values that favor the individual. The other two are values that have the intention to
better society but in different, opposing ways. The two things this society would be
vulnerable to are time and perfection because no society can stay in peace and be
perfect for a long time. What are the ethics and values that make a society perfect?
There are thousands of them and consequently cannot all be listed. I will talk about
some of them that are important and crucial to a perfect society.
You might be confused as to why would a society need selfish ethics and values?
Why would it need people who care about themselves more than others? That is
where self respect becomes a factor because to have self respect you need to be a bit
selfish. As Joan Didion claims To have that sense of one s intrinsic worth which,...

It plays an important role in attracting people that your company is socially

you will provide them with profit as well as environmental and social aspect. So they
are more likely to invest in those companies which practice CSR.

how the economic and ethical behavior effect the Shareholder s money. Ethical
behavior of corporation attracts more loyal funds towards them. Investor level of
loyalty is there even when company has low returns proves this. He also said that
funds loyalty is decreased when the company has aim only towards economic

The liability of auditors to third parties has been the subject of much litigation.
Litigation claims against accountancy firms have increased dramatically in the last
thirty years. Previously, such cases were rare and were viewed with great interest.
Nowadays, whereas still treated with great interest they are becoming all kind of
common. The specific area of auditors liability to third parties is an extremely
complex area. As there is no contractual claim for recovery of losses, third parties

The court ruled in favor of Touche. (Gomez 2003; Ultramares v Touche 1931)
Basically, The judge, found for the auditors and his reasoning has been followed in
many subsequent cases. He argued that to make audit firms liable to third parties
would be wrong as it would expose auditors:
...to a liability in an indeterminate amount for an indeterminate time to an
indeterminate class.
Essentially he could see that if he found for the plaintiff, then in theory anyone who
had lent money to a company or invested in a company, and did not receive a
satisfactory return, could argue that the only reason they had acted in this manner
was because the auditors had stated the accounts were fairly stated. This would have
imposed an intolerable burden on audit firms. (Cooper, Barkoczy, Ling, 1994)
Subsequent case such as Candler v Crane Christmas Co took place in UK in 1951.
Managing director of a company asked defendants to draw up the company s accounts
and balance sheet. Clerk employed by defendants did so, knowing the documents
would be used to induce investors to invest in the company. The accounts were
prepared negligently, and on their basis the plaintiff was misled into investing money
in the company. The company went into liquidation and the investor lost the money.
The courts ruled that, although the accountants had acted negligently, they did not
have a contract with Candler and therefore did not owe him a duty

The Legacy Of Residential Schools
The legacy that residential schools left behind in Canada was not a positive one.
Residential schools, up until the day that the last one closed in 1996, were supported
and funded by the Canadian government. The aboriginals who attended these schools
were treated unethically, and, as a result, the Aboriginals had many bitter feelings of
resentment towards everyone else living in Canada. The immoral treatment of the
First Nationspeople by the Canadian government severely impacted relations between
Canadians and Aboriginals. The severe short and long term effects of the residential
school system on Aboriginals in Canada, along with the fact that there was no
apology for the government s corrupt treatment of the First Nations people until mid
2008 taught Canadians about respect for foreign cultures and how to treat others
equally.
What are residential schools? Residential schools were schools that were
subsidized by the Canadian government that had a main goal of assimilating
Aboriginal children into Canadian culture. The first residential schools were
established in New France, however the word residential schools refers to the
schools that were founded in Canada after 1880. The primary intent of early
residential schools in New France, which were originally ran by Catholic
missionaries, was to help educate and look after the Aboriginal children. 1 These
residential schools were not very successful because the Aboriginals refused to
partake in these schools as they were
Plato And Nausea Comparison
Throughout, Jean Paul Sartre s, Nausea, and Plato s, Alcibiades, the main characters
in each of the books go through a version of discovery of their self knowledge. In
Nausea, Antoine Roquentin s version of self knowledge comes through him through
the physical nausea he feels when finding out about his own existence. In Alcibiades,
the opposite occurs. It is through Alcibiades s lack of knowledgethat he becomes self
aware and learns self knowledge through Socrates teachings on how to care for the
self. In Alcibiades, much of the book is Socrates working with Alcibiades in order
to get him to recognize his own unpreparedness for a future in politics so that he
submit himself to Socrates teachings. Socrates realizes he must show Alcibiades his
own ignorance in order to teach him and does this through questioning him to
recognize his lack of knowledge and then teaching Alcibiades the proper ways to
take care of the self. As Socrates begins... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Roquentin s self knowledge is actually discovered early in the book when he
realizes, and yet if I had a shadow of self knowledge I could put it to good use now
(4). It was on the first page that he knew something was different, but instead of
having to learn self knowledge, he had to discover it on his own. I think I m the
one that has changed (4). He was no longer being content on being alone (6) or no
longer being able to look at a bottle of beer like everyone else (8) and spend much
of the first section trying to understand why. This is also reflected when he says it
is the perfect day to turn back to one s self (14). It is from the very beginning he is
becoming aware of his own discovery of his existence and begins to feel the nausea.
Things are bad. Things are very bad. I have it, the filth, the nausea
School Boards And Legislative Bodies
During the Great Depression, schools began to provide lunch programs for school
students, since many homes could not afford to feed their children a full, well
balanced meal (Hinman 16). Throughout the past eighty years the budgets,
regulations, and policies have been changed multiple times. Whether or not these
changes are helpful, are up for debate, and are topics many schoolboards and
legislative bodies are forced to discuss. Some of the most controversial topics being
discussed are the cost students pay, the quality of the food, the amount of food going
to waste, and the obesity rate of students. The lunches that are served in schools are
typically over priced, made of poor quality, thrown away, and is one of the leading
causes to the increasing obesity rates. Two dollars and seventy five cents is the
average price students pay unless they are receiving free or reduced lunches. The
issue with these prices is that only a small fraction of students are paying the full
amount while everyone else around them is getting cut a deal by the government.
Majority of students get free or reduced lunches based on their families income and
poverty level (Hinman 18). The federal government provides approximately $9.8
billion to the federal school lunchprogram to feed approximately 50 million students
a lunch every day. Most of the money provided goes towards feeding the students
from low income families that qualify for free or reduced lunches (Hinman 16). This

The Apprenticeship Of Duddy Kravitz Analysis
Tragedy to Comedy: The Effect of Satire
Satire is a technique that takes extreme capability to execute properly. Mordecai
Richler, implements this writing style accurately all while producing a genuine story
that shares a message of growth, and strive for success for a young boy growing up
in a time of financial and supportive struggles.. At large, The Apprenticeship of
Duddy Kravitz shares a story packed with satire and irony, but effectively shows how
the characters are greedy, materialistic, and immoral.
Prior to discussing ways in which satire is used within Duddy Kravitz it is
important to understand what satire is, and what other devices it includes. Satire is a
humorous or light form of writing that is used to expose a novels more serious
themes. Satire uses sarcasm, irony, and wit to mock or ridicule something or
someone. Mordecai Richler uses this device often. This makes the novel a dramatic
comedy, even though the story shares a darker and more serious message. Greed is
one of Duddy Kravitz central issues throughout the book, as it is something he
struggles to keep under control. Mordecai Richler makes light of Duddy s situation
by using cliches, an overused idea. Duddy s traditional story of rags to riches , one
that has been heard many times, is displayed through irony, and satire. Duddy starts
his life as an unmotivated pre teen, as he was never pushed by his superiors. With
time, he finds something within to

Mistreatment And Vandalizing In San Jose
Today in our community the public parks that we have around some of the parks are
being mistreated in being vandalising and not trying to keep it clean for the residents
that in the nearby neighborhood and communities. The thing that I discovered was
that according San Jose Mercury News that the city needs the money from residents
that live in the city of San Jose to fix up those parksthat are being mistreated by some
of the residents. Me growing up in the Eastside part of the city of San Jose some of

Analysis Of Angry Birds Match
What is Angry Birds Match?
Angry Birds Match is Rovio Games sixteenth entry in their ever popular series of
action puzzle games for mobile and tablet devices. The game launched for iOS on
November 11th, 2016 and on Android on August 31st, 2017. The app is available
for download on all current iOS and Android devices (later than Android 5.0). The
game also ties into the recently released feature film The Angry Birds Movie (2016)
and its tie in television series, Blues.
The main storyline of this game focuses on you rescuing Hatchlings from pigs by
solving puzzles. The Bad Piggies want to disrupt the eternal party of the Hatchlings
via some well placed petty theft for mysterious, spiteful reasons as yet unknown. This
injustice is resolved by you clearing levels to return the Hatchling s stuff and things to
their rightful owners.
Unlike some of the previous games in the series, this entry is a casual gaming
puzzler similar in style to Candy Crush. The gameplay focuses heavily on three in a
row tile matching. You must clear your way through an enormous series of
challenge maps across many worlds, stretching to more than 1000 levels. There are
many different objectives for each map. These range from simply removing all the
pigs from play to placing different tiles together to reach a set number of combos.
The main game differs quite a bit from Candy Crush, however. If you ve ever
played Tetris, Dig Dug, or Bubble Bobble, you may recognise a few of the casual
gaming mechanics here.
Early on, your main objectives will be centred on finding a way to pop the green
piggies (the natural enemy of the enraged avian) by completing block combinations
next to them. Features such as glass, mud, glue, crates, and bricks and some
additional objectives will make it harder for you to beat levels as you progress. Bird
based special attacks can also be used to clear levels. Chaining blocks together in
certain ways will cause Red, Chuck, and Bomb to materialise into play. Each has
their own style of special ability with which to use to clear the field.
New to this game is a shop, reward chests, and unique loot. You can progress through
purchasing items with a currency system based around coins and gems. Buying or

that he is not going to Egypt he is going to the house of death. He kissed on his lips
and fell down dead at his feet. At the same time a loud shriek was heard the reason
was that the leaden heart of prince was broken into two pieces. The next day the
mayor of the city came he saw the statue and ordered to bring the statue to furnace to

Zero Tolerance Policies And School Discipline
Research suggests that policies and practices have created a dilemma that has plagued
our education system, as well as our society as a whole, that funnels millions of
students from school into the juvenile justice system (Robinson, 2013). This
dilemma, known as the school to prison pipeline is garnering much attention in
Virginia due to the states continued issues in overcoming the phenomenon.
This study explores zero tolerance policies and school discipline to better understand
its effect in to bring awareness to an issue that may help in dismantling this pipeline.
Particularly looking at those school divisions within Virginia that have disciplined
students by expelling them or placing them on long term suspension, since these ...

Other negatives include the exclusion of students who have been expelled from the
educational opportunities of their peers and thus leading to increased dropouts. She
goes on to tell us that there is little evidence to show that suspensions actually
improve student behavior (Walker, 2009). Researcher Torbin McAndrews
recognizes the negatives of zero tolerance policies and explains that effective zero
tolerance policies must specify consequences; allow flexibility; consider alternatives
to expulsion; clearly define weapons, drugs, and inappropriate acts; involve the
collaboration of all stakeholders; build on lessons from early programs; integrate
health education programs; tailor policies to local needs; and implement regular
program review (p.14). Unfortunately, research shows that these policies are not
being implemented in this manner, but instead see these policies leading to what
Kelling and Coles referred to as the Broken Windows theory of crime (Kelling Coles,
1997).
This theory of crime shows a trickle down effect of how things that start as minor
crimes can then lead to more serious issues and crimes. For example, Steven Teske
described this theory in his article, A study of zero tolerance policies in schools: A
multi integrated systems approach to improve outcomes for
Patterson Hall Case Study
In July, the demolition of Patterson Hall marked the beginning of progress on USF
s new three story residence hall. The project is projected to cost 11.7 million dollars
and it will be the first new dorm in more than a decade.
Where re going to see construction all year round. Right now they call it a closed
envelope. The tight envelope would be that it would sealed completely by December.
From that point it would be all internal walls, says Corey Ross, Vice President for
Student Development and Dean of Students.
The residence hall will have 94 rooms. The room style is where we have two
bedrooms that have a bathroom in the middle that they share. So its semi private, but
it s not self contained like an apartment complex, says Ross.

Character Abuse In Jane Eyre
Charlotte Bronte, in her most famous novel, Jane Eyre, carefully utilizes different
characters to influence and shape Jane s personality throughout the story. Bronte uses
varied actions and emotions to do this, but one of the main actions is abuse. Though
not in every setting in the novel, abusive tormenting people are spread throughout the
story that change Jane and her future. These ill mannered actions can completely
change Jane s mindset, personality, and life story. In Charlotte Bronte s Jane Eyre,
cruel male protagonists alter Jane s character through physical, psychological, and
emotional abuse. The first type of abuse that Jane experiences is physical abuse.
This is caused by John Reed. John is first introduced to the reader in the very first
chapter of the book. He immediately shows dominance over Jane and treats her with
disrespect. Pushed by his savage personality, John bullies Jane. For instance, in this
chapter, John throws a book at Jane, causing her to fall and cut her head. This brutal
behavior affects Jane and helps her to stand up for herself. Even though she does
stands up for herself, John continues to bully her. Since Jane is considered nothing
but a nuisance to the Reed s, John blames his mistakes on Jane, and because of this,
John s punishments pass over to Jane. Although Bronte s dynamic character, Jane, is
changed from abuse displayed by the infamous John Reed, She continues to stand
strong as best as she can. Eventually, Mrs. Reed sends Jane to a
Indian Mascots You Re Out Summary
Should Controversial Sports Mascots Be Replaced? The controversy over sports
mascots is nothing new in today s society. From the early 1960 s it has created an
immense campaign against stereotypical sport mascot names. In articles, Indian
Mascots You re Out, and So Sioux Me each author demonstrates how many people
including Native Americans perceive certain mascots to be offensive. The authors
first goals are to raise attention to this topic by creating pathos in their writing.
Although Mark Hyman, author of So Sioux Me, has many good examples and facts,
Jack Shakely, author of Indian Mascots You re Out, has a more credible argument.
He implements pathos by describing a story that happen to him at a young age and
also establishes... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The last way for Shakely s argument to be effective, he needs to prove to his readers
how he is credible enough to be writing about this topic. Skakely does this by
explaining how his friend of his was president of Stanford at the time. He said the
university lost millions of alumni dollars in the short run, but it was the right
thing to do. (647) This demonstrates how he is credible because he must be a
successful person and knows first handed how changing a teams mascot name can
effect a university because a good friend of his is or was Stanford University s
president at the time. By Shakely effectively proving to his readers that he is
credible, he earns their trust and the readers are more likely to agree and take his
side with the topic. In the articles, Indian Mascots You re Out, and So Sioux Me
both authors illustrate to the readers many different persuasive writing techniques.
Many of these techniques include using pathos, logos, and establishing some sort of
credibility. Jack Shakely, the author of Indian Mascots You re Out, does the best job
using these techniques and writes a more persuasive article. The readers are first
reeled into the topic with the pathos in the beginning of the article and at the end
Shakely shows how he is credible. Works Cited Shakely, Jack. Indian Mascots You re

Moral Relativism in the Dark Knight
Moral Realism v. Moral Relativism In the movie The Dark Knight, Batman is
faced with a new challenge dealing with the Joker. Batman, and the city of
Gotham, views the Joker as a mysterious, sadistic criminal who is a freak of nature.
However, the challenge becomes very personal for Batman as the Joker confronts
Batman about everything he believes in. The Joker does this because he has a very
relativistic view on life. Even though he murders innocent people, tortures others for
amusement, and manipulates everyone he meets, he does not view his actions as
wrong. In fact, he does not even believe in an absolute right. He believes that
everyone else is crazy for thinking that there is a right and wrong that all people
should follow, and he... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It is easy to see why the Joker strongly believes that a sensible life is created by
living by his or her own rules, but he is not right. If everyone lived by their own
right and wrong, there would be never ending chaos in the world. People would be
doing what they believe is right, and then they would become angry when someone
is unfair or cruel towards them. If everyone had a relativistic view, the universe
would never be balanced. During

Columbus Zoo Research Paper
There once was an employee named Craig, who worked at the Columbus Zoo and
worked in the monkey section. He feed them twice a day and made sure that they
were healthy. One day one of the monkeys, BoBo, seemed ill. Craig gave BoBo a
shot to make sure he was ok. The shot said that he was ok. Later on Craig assumed
that they were all ok at the zoo.
After a few weeks, Craig noticed BoBo started to smell a lot more and was
sleeping a lot more. Craig took some of BoBo s blood and found he had
bananatitous. Which is a disease eats too much food. BoBo, you have bananatitous.
informed Craig. BoBo whined. Craig took BoBo out of the cage and took him to the
special vet area in the zoo, because Bananatitous was contagious. The symptoms of
bananatitous were, sleeping a lot, odor, and not eating enough.
BoBo had passed it onto a bird in the vet area before the bird went back to his cage.
In one of the shows the zoo has, the bird lands on someone s shoulder in the

Essay About Cinderella
Myths and fairy tales have a way of sending an audience into a whole new world.
Things are happening that would seem crazy in real life. This new world is often
something everyone wishes they could be apart of. It triggers the creative side of
the brain, and allows people to use their imagination. Cinderella is one of the many
fairy tales that allows people to be apart of a different world.
According to Per Ankh, Cinderella first came about in Egypt around the first century
BC. Rhodopis a young maiden was born in Greece, but was kidnapped by pirates
and carried to Egypt. Rhodopis became a servant to an old man, where all the other
servant girls would taunt her for having golden curls instead of straight black hair.

treating her like a servant, and yet she still remained loving through it all. Even
though she had all of the odds against her, she beat them. Today, people are always
hoping that times will get easier. Seeing a movie like Cinderella just reminds

  • 1. Video Game Addiction Essay Crafting an essay on the subject of video game addiction is a challenging task that requires a delicate balance between presenting factual information and addressing the complex nuances surrounding the topic. The difficulty lies in navigating the fine line between acknowledging the entertainment and educational aspects of video games while addressing the potential negative consequences of excessive gaming. To create a compelling essay, one must delve into extensive research to gather relevant data, statistics, and expert opinions. The multifaceted nature of video game addiction demands a comprehensive exploration of psychological, social, and physiological aspects. The writer must carefully tread through the existing literature to extract credible sources that shed light on both the positive and negative impacts of video games. Moreover, the essay should be structured in a way that provides a clear and logical progression of ideas. Balancing the introduction, body paragraphs, and conclusion is crucial to maintaining coherence and ensuring that the essay effectively conveys its message. The challenge is to present a well-rounded argument without oversimplifying the issue or veering into overly technical jargon. Additionally, addressing potential counterarguments and alternative perspectives adds another layer of complexity to the essay. It requires a thoughtful analysis of opposing viewpoints, allowing the writer to strengthen their position while demonstrating a nuanced understanding of the subject. In conclusion, writing an essay on video game addiction demands meticulous research, thoughtful organization, and a nuanced approach to the subject matter. • 2. The House on Mango Street When I grow up, I want to be a black gum tree. Black gum trees are known for their internal strength. Instead of dwelling on outward beauty, they spend more time focusing on their inner growth and developing their core. Only after they have achieved this goal can they produce beautiful fruits that draw animals near to them. Any surfaces that the berries touch are stained as to say, I was here and made a permanent difference. After they have utilized their outward influences, they use their internal scars and hollow places to protect the animals surrounding around it. If human lives were to reflect the concepts of the black gum tree, governments, individuals, and communities would be radically transformed. While this is a beautiful image,... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Now the slab can be seen as a secondary result deriving from the poor condition of the roots. The roots of the trees act as a metaphor for the community on Mango Street, which supports Esperanza s development. Because the roots of the community on Mango Street are tangled in cycles of tragic abuse, Esperanza is deprived of the essential social and ethical requirements she needs to grow. When Esperanza explains that the trees send ferocious roots beneath the ground , she is implying that the trees are trying to dig deeper in order to find an essential element for their growth (Cisneros 74). New visitors to her neighborhood roll their windows up tightly, which shows it is not an environment that allows children to develop properly (Cisneros 28). Because of the deficit her community is causing her, she is unable to grow to her full potential, and resorts to digging deeper within herself just as the roots of the trees do. A problem arises when trees try to do this because the roots are more susceptible to disease. Keeping with the metaphor, Esperanza shows symptoms similar to a tree that has attracted the heart rot disease. This disease is characterized by external problems seeping through the roots, which lead to the decay of the heartwood of a tree, and eventually its overall health. Esperanza is obviously being fed infectious ideas from her misshapen community, and has begun to let it eat away at her heart. This cycle is started by the roots

He goes further to suggest options for a response as well as identify some needs for a proper response. As much as the presentation is precise and easy to understand, the author fails to provide the much needed evidence to back his thoughts. For instance, he seems to over emphasize that energy infrastructure is more critical than another unit, yet fails to provide sufficient description of the
  • 7. The Sweatshop Industry and Child Labour in NIC s Essay The Sweatshop Industry and Child Labour in NIC s This report is aimed at investigating if the two major TNC s Nike and Gap manufacture their products according to their code of vendor conduct. Both companies code of vendor conduct clearly states that no workers are employed under the legal minimum age and sweatshops don t exist in their factories. A sweatshop is a factory where employees are subject to extreme exploitation; they work in dreadful conditions with health and safety hazards, for little pay and long hours. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This excuse hinders outsiders knowing exactly what is happening inside the factory. People didn t want to tell us about the factories whereabouts either, as they were scared of getting physically assaulted by the security men surrounding the factory. At last we found a factory called June Textiles, which manufactured products for both Nike and Gap, but no one would tell us more than that. Checking treatment of workers here was going to be a huge task. The factory was well guarded and looked like any ordinary factory from the outside, but at that time we didn t know what harsh realities workers were facing inside the factory. We needed to talk to the workers on home turf, away from the security men surrounding the factory. Late at night we got a call from a couple of workers who said they were prepared to speak to us, if we met them after their shift, at their home. For them to talk openly about the conditions in the factory was a big step. This was the one of our first big surprises, 8 women were living together in a tiny little room which on a regularly basis had power cuts and was without running water. As we interviewed them they told us that Nike and Gap treat them as dirt, they work 16 hours a day, which is 112 hours a week. This contradicts with Nike and Gap s code of vendor conduct, which says ВґВґOn a regularly scheduled basis requires no more than 60 hours of work per

  • 10. Horatio Alger Myth Research Paper The Horatio Alger myth is one of the oldest myths in the history of the United States of America. Horatio Alger was a 19th century author who wrote short stories that all had the same universal theme: a young man rising from a poor childhood to become a successful adult. Alger s stories were enormously popular during his time and continue to be so today with the term Alger Myth become a household saying. The popularity of Alger s stories is not surprising when one considers America has consistently pushed the notion that anyone can achieve success if they work hard. Every child in America is told at some point in their life that they can be anything they want to be. This myth is as much a part of American culture as apple pie or baseball.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... [Logical transition needed here such as Yet, ] The poverty level in America is absurdly high and produces a large group of children who grow up in an environment where everybody is struggling to get by on a day to day basis. These children have no actual tangible evidence that somebody from their neighborhood can achieve the type of success they dream of. The only hope they have comes from the Alger Myth or other such fables that describe rags to riches stories. The Alger Myth is thus a useful tool for the American upper class, in the sense that it gives the lower class a hope for their future and in the process helps to prevent any attempt by the lower class to overthrow the current economic system, which produces this huge disparity between the rich and poor. [Good. This effectively politicizes and enlarges the issue.] This would almost be an acceptable practice if the Alger Myth was true and everyone did have a chance to succeed regardless of race, sex, or affluence. [Again, emphasize the contrast with a transition: But, ] The Alger Myth , like many popular American myths, is in fact a fallacy as the facts simply show there is no evidence to support an equal playing field for every

  • 15. Student Loan Debt And Consumer Choice Student Loan Debt and Consumer Choice In today s society, student loans are haunting the lives of millions of postgraduates all over the United States. Students who have carelessly taken out loans and those in serious need of financial aid for their college education are now burdened with thousands of dollars worth of debt. As the student debt average continues to increase in our nation, the budgets of postgraduates begin to dwindle and the amount of defaults grow dramatically. With the large student debts our young adults are now dealt with, recent graduates are forced to compromise certain aspects of their quality and standard of living after graduation. Our nation s recent graduate s budgets are being directly affected by the student loandebt and interest accrued during and after their college careers. Student loans are a form of financial aid given by federal and private organizations designed to help fund the student s tuition, housing, books, and other expenses. Student loans are primarily given to those who are in most need of financial assistance. The interest rates that accompany these loans are relatively lower than those of credit cards, housing and auto loans, because these loans were meant to be quickly and easily paid off. With federal interest rates fixed at as low as five percent and private loan interest rates decreasing, it comes to question: why is the amount of student loan debt in our nation increasing so rapidly? And with the amount of student loan

The first two months there was massive chaos throughout the state, especially in the large cities such as Atlanta. The next two months after that the massive die offs started to happen for various reasons. There was no medicine for the sick; there was disease, murder, gang wars, starvation, and no water. Communities were setting up their own security, and most communities were set up by race. Of course, there were the exceptions and they tended to be the more successful ones. Eventually, those communities were small and left the area feeling they were unwelcome and under threat of violence. However, there was some semblance of sanity as many of the cities and towns started to set up their own militias for protection. The largest militia in the region was the Atlanta Militia, made up of former law enforcement and some prior military. They had raided the policestations, what were left anyway, for weapons, as well as National Guard Armories. The Atlanta Militia was organized in typical military fashion with a brigade, battalion, and company. They trained and trained hard. They were overseen by civilian leadership that took the form of a council. There was no mayor, only the council, who made decisions in a very democratic way, with whatever had the most votes. The Atlanta Militia had a military personnel structure. At the lead was Colonel Melford Grayston, a former Army Officer and West Point
  • 18. Essay On Electoral Politics In post colonial India, electoral politics has been strongly influenced by caste, class, location and in few cases, indigeneity. The domination of a specific group either economically or socially privileged or backward in politics can alter the allocation of resources. Multiple scholars (Jaffrelot, 2003; Varshney, 2000; Banerjee Somanathan, 2006) write that among the historically disadvantaged social groups in India, those that mobilized themselves politically gained relative to the others. For instance, in the 1980s, the SCs established a successful caste based party (Bahujan Samaj Party [BSP]), significantly increased their representation in national politics and allowed them to extract more public resources from the state than... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Currently, India is ruled by the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), a Hindu right wing nationalist party, which has increased tensions between Hindus and Muslims and contributed to a polarizing atmosphere. BJP also rules eight of the nine states which have the highest maternal mortality rates, therefore, polarization of politics has the potential to affect utilization of maternal health services. However, in this context, I find myself contradicted by Bowleg (2012, p. 1270), who writes that intersectionality was not developed to predict behavior . Nonetheless, the linkages between a polarized political atmosphere and access to maternal health services can be an area of further research. While the linkages between domination of groups and allocation of resources is critical, the situation is more complex at the constituency level. Within a state, there is a high prevalence of clientelism i.e. constituencies which have legislators from the ruling party receive a larger share of public resources as they utilize their political influence to deliver additional public projects to their home constituencies to cultivate political support. However, communities that are best served by government are those that possess both top down political connections to the ruling party, as well as high levels of grassroots local democratic mobilisation needed to place pressure on local politicians to deliver services (Dasgupta, 2016). The Cost of Pharmaceuticals: Prescription Drug Prices and Retail Mark Up Diandra Hopkins American Public University Anyone who has purchased prescription medication has probably wondered why they cost so much. The pharmaceutical industry consist of thousands of firms engaged in one or several functions of discovering, developing, manufacturing and marketing medicines for human use. The price paid to a retail pharmacy for a drug is negotiated by the PBM (Pharmacy Benefit Manager) and the pharmacy or pharmacy chain. The pharmacy is left with an option of refusing the business, raising its prices for cash customers or reducing its operation margin. Rising prices for goods encourage producers to find ways of supplying more also guiding purchasers to switch to cheaper alternatives. The price mechanism encourages the productive and careful employment of scarce resources and directs innovative efforts where they are most needed. Analyses of pharmaceutical pricing are complicated by the intricacies of this market. The process by which drug prices are determined is highly complex, involving numerous interactions and arrangements among manufacturers, whole salers ,retailers, insurers, pharmacy benefit managers (PBMs), and consumers. There are many instances, a manufacturer will provide a cash rebate to an insurer or PBM if the manufacturer s drugs are used by the insurer s or PBM s enrollee. CORONA, the codename for program for the first generations of satellites, allowed the United States to have relatively recent imagery of any place on the globe. From 1960 to 1972, some form of the CORONA system was in orbit. In 1962, the fourth generation was given the name KH 4 (Key Hole, like looking through to see), and the previous generations were retroactively given the preceding numbers. KH 1 through KH 4B flew 144 missions, returning usable film 102 times. The retrieval method was one that we would call unorthodox today, but without a way to transmit the data easily back to earth a different system would need to be developed. After the several thousand foot roll of film was shot, it was ejected from the satellite in a reentry vehicle. The capsule would reenter the atmosphere and deploy a parachute. This would then ideally be caught by a special plane. If the plane was unable to recover the capsule, a military ship was waiting to retrieve it. The next generation of satellites would start to bring the military and intelligence community the high quality imagery it desired. This series was codenamed GAMBIT. The first, KH 7 was essentially the same as CORONA, but with a better a camera. It featured the same single capsule ejection /recovery system. The great leap forward was when an improved version of this camera was paired with a new satellite design. The KH 8 featured two or three return capsules, solar panels, and more fuel. Daniel Henninger, The Wall Street Journal The collapse of Enron Corporation has created many discussions about the structure of corporate governance. The question of this essay first calls to examine some of the strengths and weaknesses of the shareholder model of corporate governance and how the fundamental principles of this model were instrumental in the disintegration of Enron. In particular, I will discuss Deakin s article about the third position addressing how Enron s profit driven culture and the executive focus on short term profitability hindered them from being an ethically and legally driven company for long term investments (Deakin and Konzelmann). Enron, at its early stages was a success for the shareholder model but it was that same model that is to blame for the demise of Enron. I will argue that the adoption of the theoretical characteristics of the shareholder model helps us identify what could have prevented the downfall of Enron and how future corporations can learn from what was done and be dissimilar to Enron. The Enron case created a reevaluation of corporate governance and a revolution of accountability between corporation and shareholder. Many theorists believe that the Enron case showcases the

As in, the best way to interpret this play is for the readers to develop a sense of feeling to the play in order to analyzing and learn from it. I believe Shakespeare is able to do that by demonstrating the influence words have over the characters thus creating the emotional reactions inside the play that the audience can relate too. For example, many people can relate to Hermione where they have tried to convince someone something isn t true but no matter what they say, it will never change. As a teacher, I want my students to be submerge in this plays ability to use words to manipulate emotions and put themselves in the character s positions of authenticity and vulnerably. Lambert also stated, Cognitive Emotional Pedagogy is an exciting and fertile approach to teaching, but the reason it has not affected higher levels of education, including university and graduate level training, is probably because it asks teachers to integrate their own emotional experience with that of the students, which can result in the discomfort of confession and self exposure. Too often a student s preconceived emotional state, like anger or depression, is brought to bear in class discussions rather than their a priori emotional response to a text within the class (28). He argued that to make audit firms liable to third parties would be wrong as it would expose auditors: ...to a liability in an indeterminate amount for an indeterminate time to an indeterminate class. Essentially he could see that if he found for the plaintiff, then in theory anyone who had lent money to a company or invested in a company, and did not receive a satisfactory return, could argue that the only reason they had acted in this manner was because the auditors had stated the accounts were fairly stated. This would have imposed an intolerable burden on audit firms. (Cooper, Barkoczy, Ling, 1994) Subsequent case such as Candler v Crane Christmas Co took place in UK in 1951. • 42. The Legacy Of Residential Schools The legacy that residential schools left behind in Canada was not a positive one. Residential schools, up until the day that the last one closed in 1996, were supported and funded by the Canadian government. The aboriginals who attended these schools were treated unethically, and, as a result, the Aboriginals had many bitter feelings of resentment towards everyone else living in Canada. The immoral treatment of the First Nationspeople by the Canadian government severely impacted relations between Canadians and Aboriginals. The severe short and long term effects of the residential school system on Aboriginals in Canada, along with the fact that there was no apology for the government s corrupt treatment of the First Nations people until mid 2008 taught Canadians about respect for foreign cultures and how to treat others equally. What are residential schools? Residential schools were schools that were subsidized by the Canadian government that had a main goal of assimilating Aboriginal children into Canadian culture. The first residential schools were established in New France, however the word residential schools refers to the schools that were founded in Canada after 1880. The primary intent of early residential schools in New France, which were originally ran by Catholic missionaries, was to help educate and look after the Aboriginal children. 1 These residential schools were not very successful because the Aboriginals refused to partake in these schools as they were

It is through Alcibiades s lack of knowledgethat he becomes self aware and learns self knowledge through Socrates teachings on how to care for the self. In Alcibiades, much of the book is Socrates working with Alcibiades in order to get him to recognize his own unpreparedness for a future in politics so that he submit himself to Socrates teachings. School Boards And Legislative Bodies During the Great Depression, schools began to provide lunch programs for school students, since many homes could not afford to feed their children a full, well balanced meal (Hinman 16). Throughout the past eighty years the budgets, regulations, and policies have been changed multiple times. Whether or not these changes are helpful, are up for debate, and are topics many schoolboards and legislative bodies are forced to discuss. Some of the most controversial topics being discussed are the cost students pay, the quality of the food, the amount of food going to waste, and the obesity rate of students. The lunches that are served in schools are typically over priced, made of poor quality, thrown away, and is one of the leading causes to the increasing obesity rates. Two dollars and seventy five cents is the average price students pay unless they are receiving free or reduced lunches. The issue with these prices is that only a small fraction of students are paying the full amount while everyone else around them is getting cut a deal by the government. Majority of students get free or reduced lunches based on their families income and poverty level (Hinman 18). The federal government provides approximately $9.8 billion to the federal school lunchprogram to feed approximately 50 million students a lunch every day. Most of the money provided goes towards feeding the students from low income families that qualify for free or reduced lunches (Hinman 16). This makes it

The game launched for iOS on November 11th, 2016 and on Android on August 31st, 2017. The app is available for download on all current iOS and Android devices (later than Android 5.0). The game also ties into the recently released feature film The Angry Birds Movie (2016) and its tie in television series, Blues. The main storyline of this game focuses on you rescuing Hatchlings from pigs by solving puzzles. The Bad Piggies want to disrupt the eternal party of the Hatchlings via some well placed petty theft for mysterious, spiteful reasons as yet unknown. This injustice is resolved by you clearing levels to return the Hatchling s stuff and things to their rightful owners. Unlike some of the previous games in the series, this entry is a casual gaming puzzler similar in style to Candy Crush. The gameplay focuses heavily on three in a row tile matching. You must clear your way through an enormous series of challenge maps across many worlds, stretching to more than 1000 levels. There are many different objectives for each map. These range from simply removing all the pigs from play to placing different tiles together to reach a set number of combos. The main game differs quite a bit from Candy Crush, however. If you ve ever played Tetris, Dig Dug, or Bubble Bobble, you may recognise a few of the casual gaming mechanics here. Early on, your main objectives will be centred on finding a way to pop the green piggies (the natural enemy of the enraged avian) by completing block combinations next to them. Features such as glass, mud, glue, crates, and bricks and some additional objectives will make it harder for you to beat levels as you progress. Bird based special attacks can also be used to clear levels. Chaining blocks together in certain ways will cause Red, Chuck, and Bomb to materialise into play. Each has their own style of special ability with which to use to clear the field. New to this game is a shop, reward chests, and unique loot. You can progress through purchasing items with a currency system based around coins and gems. Buying or

She goes on to tell us that there is little evidence to show that suspensions actually improve student behavior (Walker, 2009). Researcher Torbin McAndrews recognizes the negatives of zero tolerance policies and explains that effective zero tolerance policies must specify consequences; allow flexibility; consider alternatives to expulsion; clearly define weapons, drugs, and inappropriate acts; involve the collaboration of all stakeholders; build on lessons from early programs; integrate health education programs; tailor policies to local needs; and implement regular program review (p.14). Unfortunately, research shows that these policies are not being implemented in this manner, but instead see these policies leading to what Kelling and Coles referred to as the Broken Windows theory of crime (Kelling Coles, 1997).
