3. FOUNDER OF THE THEORY
• Albert Adler (February 7, 1870 –
May 28, 1937)
• Psychiatrist in Vienna in the late
1800s, but was also an eye doctor
• Two of his four children became
psychiatrists
• Worked with Dr. Sigmund Freud
but diverged in thought from Freud
• Provided counseling and education
• Equality and individual rights were
essential to Adler

6. SOME TECHNIQUES IN ADLERIAN THERAPY
• Encouragement—leads to positive mental
health as the counselor is modeling the
behavior
• Hypnosis—seeks alternative hypothesis
for the client’s behavior
• “Push Button”—allow client to interrupt
depression
• Catching oneself—enables clients to
recognize and identify their own problems
• “Spitting in the soup”—assist client in
recognizing intentions that they may not
be aware of
• “As if”– asking clients to pretend that they
are the person they would like to be

8. DESCRIPTION
I chose the SlideShare platform because I was familiar with it. Additionally it integrates well with
PowerPoint which I am also already familiar with. This familiarity of beneficial because it allow
me to spend more time creating and less time learning a new platform. Additionally, SlideShare
allows easy sharing and integration thus permitting easier distribution of my presentation.
I created this presentation using PowerPoint and loaded it into SlideShare.
I used the 508 Checklist (http://webaim.org/standards/508/checklist) to ensure accessibility. I did
provide a text description for each photo for those who might be using an audio reader to view
the presentation.
As a formatting note, I placed the reference for each slide at the bottom of the page to permit those
using readers to access the program to more easily understand where I located the information
and where they can go to find out more. Listing all references at the end would make this
process more difficult.
