This document describes a vegetable cutting machine project created by a team of 4 students. The objectives of the project were to create an affordable alternative to existing automated vegetable cutters and gain knowledge in mechanical systems, PLCs, and pneumatics. Some key issues with manual and existing automated cutting include high costs, power fluctuations, time consumption, and contamination risks. The proposed system uses low-cost pneumatic actuation powered by a compressor to quickly and safely cut vegetables. An analysis of the project considered production speed and quality, low material and operating costs, fast delivery, safety sensors, and knowledge gained in building the system.
