A Strategic Approach: GenAI in Education
Artificial Intelligence (AI) technologies such as Generative AI, Image Generators and Large Language Models have had a dramatic impact on teaching, learning and assessment over the past 18 months. The most immediate threat AI posed was to Academic Integrity with Higher Education Institutes (HEIs) focusing their efforts on combating the use of GenAI in assessment. Guidelines were developed for staff and students, policies put in place too. Innovative educators have forged paths in the use of Generative AI for teaching, learning and assessments leading to pockets of transformation springing up across HEIs, often with little or no top-down guidance, support or direction.
This Gasta posits a strategic approach to integrating AI into HEIs to prepare staff, students and the curriculum for an evolving world and workplace. We will highlight the advantages of working with these technologies beyond the realm of teaching, learning and assessment by considering prompt engineering skills, industry impact, curriculum changes, and the need for staff upskilling. - 3. FAVORITE ASSIGNMENTS 1. FUTURE LETTER a. This letter helped me envision one of my main goals in life; graduating with a masters degree in nursing. Seeing my goal in the form of a letter motivated me to truly become a better student academically. It was meaningful to my success as a student and career. 2. FINANCIAL AVENUES a. This assignment gave me a new perspective on personal finances. It showed me how to spend money more wise, and how to control my finances as well. Because I am in college now and I am making my own money, knowing how to control my spending is a huge relief. 3. GRAYSON LINK CAREER ASSIGNMENT a. I love taking personal test like this to see what my characteristics favor in a career. I have wanted to be a nurse since I was a freshman in highschool, and after taking this short assessment I knew the career path I chose was right. It said that nursing would be a good career choice for me and it really made me feel great.
- 4. FAVORITE JOURNALS 1. CHAPTER 4 JOURNAL ENTRY 13 a. What i learned from this activity is that I spend too much time on needless things. Instead of studying, I would rather watch T.V. for example. This made me change better academically as a college student. 2. CHAPTER 7 JOURNAL ENTRY 28 a. This journal made me realize what my value is in life, and that is the respect to others. The saying, “Treat others the way you want to be treated”, really stood out to me while writing this journal entry. Respect is something everybody deserves. 3. CHAPTER 8 JOURNAL ENTRY 29 a. This journal entry was very meaningful and deep to me. I struggle with anxiety and depression in my life, and writing down what makes me happy or unhappy helped me a lot. It is not an easy thing to
- 5. FAVORITE WEEK Week 5 was my favorite week in this course. The financial assignment truly helped me with my finances. At the time of this assignment, I was struggling with money, and this week helped me through it.
- 6. THREE LESSONS I LEARNED1. I will ALWAYS complete my work on time. It is not that I am lazy, but I am super busy. But after this semester and this course teaching me to be more responsible, my work WILL be completed on time for my own benefit. 2. I now believe in myself. I did not know what my real goal was in life until writing it out in the journals and seeing it in front of my face. I just want to help others, and to be happy. As simple as that. This will help me in my college classes be a better student and be more confident with myself. 3. I learned how to manage my money. I now know how to spend my money wise and more efficient. This will help me in my future classes by being able to focus in class instead of worrying about money.

Even though it does not say I have really changed, I know that I have. I now believe in myself and see a future as I go forward with my life. I have learned that I am strong, independent, and that I do have a goal that I will achieve.
- 8. GRAYSON CAREER ASSIGNMENT This assignment informed me that I am artistic, investigative, and social. Some of the job career choices it gave me were being a music therapist, and being a chemist. I do love music and helping people, and I love science, but the profession I desire is nursing. Even though it does not say nursing in the career choices, it provides jobs for me that define a nurse. A nurse is to help others, like the music therapist. A nurse also needs to love science, like the chemist. So in the end, the assignment did not really help me choosing a career, but it did remind me that the qualities I have is exactly what a nurse needs.
- 10. Seeing the pictures in the previous slide makes me proud. Proud that my future holds so much for me. My best life is to be a nurse practitioner, but overall to be helping others. I hope to be happy, and to make others around me happy too! The materialistic things do truly matter to me. I am not doing this job just because of money, but to be impacting people’s lives and changing the world one deed at a time.
