Exploring Career Paths in Cybersecurity for Technical CommunicatorsBen Woelk, CISSP, CPTC
Brief overview of career options in cybersecurity for technical communicators. Includes discussion of my career path, certification options, NICE and NIST resources.
1. Natalie Mikael Bausell
Major: Respiratory Therapy (Pediatrics)
Personal Affirmation:
I’ve always been down on myself but I know I am capable and I will succeed.
2. Favorite assignments/discussions:
• My first favorite assignment was the chapter 1 self-assessment. I enjoyed it
because I was able to see where I stand. We did this assignment a second
time and it was cool to see how everything went up. I am better the
different areas that’ll help me get through college and life.
• My favorite discussion was learning about the deep processing and seeing
how students, like myself, were learning at first and then realized we were
actually learning shallow processing.
• Lastly, I enjoyed the service learning project. It was fun to use my time to
sort of job shadow someone who is doing what I plan to do, or close to
what I want to do. It also made me step out of my comfort zone. When I
first saw this assignment I had a panic attack just thinking about it, but it
worked out in the end.
3. Favorite Journals:
• I really enjoyed journal entry 8. Its where we practiced disputing the
judgments of our Inner Critic and Inner Defender. It was fun having the
mini conversation with my inner critic and defender. I never realized how
much we use our inner critic, defender and guide.
• Journal entry 17 was cool too. We explored our support systems. It was a
challenge and also interesting to sit and think about all the people I know
that could help but also the different opportunities that Grayson gives us
students that works as a support system.
• My all time favorite journal entry was journal 11. It was when we had to
visualize reaching our biggest goals and dreams. Using our five senses we
wrote what we were feeling during that moment. Mine was graduating the
respiratory therapist program. I know that will be one of my proudest days.
4. Favorite Week:
• Week 7 has been my favorite. I think it is because we are getting
towards the end of this class and I feel accomplished. It’s not often I
feel accomplished so when I do, it really is refreshing. An assignment I
really enjoyed that was due in week 7, was writing the letter to the
next class. I like writing and I was able to tell the next class what they
were in for. This class was a great experience.
5. Lessons To Use In The Future:
• As far as lessons go, I feel like I have learned so much about myself. Which every
lesson thus far has been about bettering ourselves. I have learned how to be
positive and manage my time best. I have learned the wrong and right ways to
study.
• One lesson I will take forward with me, is adopting a creator mindset and not play
victim, there is always a positive side to things.
• Another lesson I will carry with me is acting on purpose. Remembering the 4
quadrants and making sure the right things are in each quadrant. Keeping what is
important and urgent, important and urgent.
• The last lesson I will remember to keep with me is, developing self-respect and
emotional intelligence. Keeping myself on track where I need to be with my
classes, and studying.
6. Chapter 1 Self-Assessment Scores:
• Frist-68 Second-78 Accepting personal responsibility.
• Frist-75 Second-84 Discovering self-motivation.
• Frist-61 Second-74 Mastering self-management.
• First-56 Second-100 Employing interdependence.
• First-50 Second-76 Gaining self-awareness.
• First-59 Second-74 Adopting lifelong learning.
• First-70 Second-80 Developing emotional intelligence.
• First-41 Second-87 Believing in myself.
• Looking at the scores from the beginning and then now, I am impressed with myself. The area’s I really
needed to improve in, I did. Which was employing interdependence and believing in myself. I’ve
learned that it really does take being positive and self-discipline to get through college. I have learned
being organized really helps too. I know that’s probably a “duh” moment but I’ve never been very
organized and it never held me back until starting college. All in all this class has been very helpful. I’ve
learned a lot and gained confidence.
7. Grayson Link Assignment:
• My Hollands code in order is SIA; Social, Investigation, and Artistic. Enterprising was tied with
investigation and artistic though.
• Careers that I was given after finding out my Holland code was; childcare work and school social
workers, health educators, elementary school teacher and public relations specialists. I am rarely
surprised when I do these surveys that tell me what careers I should go into. I was very surprised
when I received public relations specialists. However, I am going into the medical field and my back
up plan is a school guidance counselor. I love kids and hope to go into pediatrics or the NICU when I
finish my Respiratory therapy program.
• I know that I have what it takes to become an elementary school teacher. One reason being, it was
at one point a career choice for myself. I have a passion for helping kids of any age. I have worked
with kids before and have patience to be able to teach. Some of the basic skills for being an
elementary school teacher are as such; talking to others and having teaching strategies for learning
new things. You must have the abilities to communicate well and multitask. I have a three-year-old
son and if there is one thing I have learned, it is multitasking. Another reason I believe I could take
on this career is, it only requires a bachelor’s degree. I don’t really want to go to school for very
long, but my mind may change in the future. A teacher’s salary is $55, 800 a year. A lot of people
talk down on school teachers for their low income, but teachers get some of the best perks.
Weekends, holidays and summers off with their families. It definitely takes a special person to teach
and I am thankful for the ones who have a true passion and go for it. I also believe I am one of those
special people.
8. Having my loved ones stand by me every step of the way. They’re my world.
9. I hope to have a
beautiful home built on
some land.
My Future:Graduating & becoming a
Respiratory Therapist.
Letting God lead my
path.
Hoping to add another
sweet babe to the
family, in the future.
