WHAT IS UNPACKING OF MELCs?
• Is a technique teachers can utilize to create simpler learning
targets.
• It is called DECONSTRUCTING or UNWRAPPING
• It is a process of breaking down student learning outcomes
into component parts to identify life-long transferable
learning skills
• Taking a deeper dive into the content that will be taught.
STEPS IN UNPACKING LEARNING
COMPETENCIES
• First, choose a Learning Competency out of
the Most Essential Learning Competencies.
Example:
Demonstrate ways to manage puberty-
related health issues and concerns.

• Second, identify the Target Skills.
Example:
Demonstrate ways to manage puberty-

Target Skills are in terms of verb in the chosen learning
competency

Example:
