The Navajo Are Centrally Located In The Southwestern United
The Navajo are centrally located in the Southwestern United States. Even though their culture is
in America, it differs from the culture of Western America. The difference lies in everything
from religion to personal expression. In fact, a significant portion of personal expression done by
Navajo individuals is shown through their artwork. The artwork is a not only a representation of
the Navajo lifestyle, but their significance to history. The Navajo artwork that will be discussed
includes artforms such as sand painting, rugs, pottery, and silver making; these will be defined
and the technique and/or creative process will be explained as well. Sand painting is a unique and
symbolic art form originating with the Holy People, was and still... Show more content on

Practitioners believe sitting on the sand painting helps the patient to absorb spiritual power,
while in turn the Holy People will absorb the illness and take it away. Afterward, when the sand
painting has served its purpose, it is considered to be toxic, since it has absorbed the illness. For
this reason, the painting is destroyed. Because of the sacred nature of the ceremonies, the sand
paintings are begun, finished, used and destroyed within 12 hours. The colors for the painting
are usually accomplished with naturally colored sand, such as crushed gypsum (white), yellow
ochre, red sandstone, charcoal and a mixture of charcoal and gypsum (blue). Other coloring
agents include corn meal, flower pollen, or powdered roots and bark. Sand paintings are not the
only artforms created by the Navajo, there are also rugs. Navajos came to the southwest with
their own weaving traditions; however, they learned to weave cotton on upright looms from
Pueblo peoples. Navajo women believe the art of weaving was taught by Spider Woman, who
constructed a loom according to directions given by the Holy People. By the 18th century the
Navajos had begun to import Bayeta red yarn to supplement local black, grey, and white wool, as
well as wool dyed with indigo. Using an upright loom, the Navajos made extremely fine utilitarian
blankets that were collected by Ute and Plains Indians. These Chief s Blankets were characterized
by horizontal stripes and minimal patterning in

Souta In Poco s Udon World
In Yoshihide Ibata s Poco s Udon world, Souta is struggling with his purpose in life. When Souta
returns to his hometown due to his father s death, he discovers a little boy name Poco. After taking
Poco under his wing, Souta is constantly reminded of his childhood and of all his memories that he
had sealed away. In particular, Souta feels regretful for not following his father s footsteps in
continuing the udonshop, but instead leaving to go to Tokyo. However, through his father son bond
with Poco, Souta was able figure out a balance between what he wants and who his father wanted

INTRODUCTION PURPOSE AND ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
A seminal study recently commissioned by a government Committee of Teacher Education Policy
(COTEP), the so called National Teacher Education Audit (henceforth referred to as the Audit),
reported that there is an over supply of teachers in some school subjects (e.g. Biblical Studies) and
an under supply in other subjects (e.g. Science and Mathematics). These findings seem to
corroborate widespread news reports that new teachers are not finding employment. The apparent
contradiction between supply and demand alluded to above raIses important questions regarding
the employment of teachers. Is there, in fact, an oversupply of teachers? Do teacher education
graduates find employment in teaching? Do Science and Mathematics teacher education
graduates, in fact, fill positions in these assumed critical areas? To address these and related
questions, a study was designed to track a cohort of new teachers with the goal of ascertaining
their employment status in the years immediately following their graduation. ,The study used a
longitudinal tracer study design to trace the 1995 cohort of teacher graduates of the Faculty of
Education, University of Durban Westville. Data were collected at three different periods: at
graduation (July 1996), at the end of the school year (December 1996), and at the beginning of the
new school year (January 1997). Survey questionnaires were used for the collection of data from

Turn on the television and go to any sports channel that you choose to watch. You will hear about
the negativity that comes with football. Players being suspended from teams over disciplinary
actions. Whether you believe they did wrong or not, that is what is being covered by the media.
The Sports channels forget to air the good things that people have done and the work they have
accomplished. In A Football Life: Kurt Warner you learn about a man who never gave up, did not
focus on the bad, and kept everyone s emotions in check.
1)Kurt Warner was not out on the field to hear his name over the speakers after he made one of
his unimaginable plays. Nor did he attempt to only get results on the field. He was not the one
with pom poms dancing around. He was competent in what he was there to accomplish which
was take the team to the next level. At times it may have seemed like he was a cheerleader leader;
however, when it was his time to step up he would drop the cheerleading act and put on the war
paint and take his team onto the field and lead. Kurt Warner would reside in the Competent
Managers quadrant. This is shown first when he was just a scout team quarterback when he first
started playing he would keep everyone s spirits high. During the season Trent Green went down
and Kurt had to come in to fill in. During his first game he came out and had a game of a lifetime
throwing for over 300 yards. Marshall Falk said, can you get something out of someone that

Non Corporations And Its Impact On Fostering Change
Abstract
Despite the fact that many organizations have embraced the new management strategies in
reflexivity, there are still countless issues in the same regard. It is also vital to remember that for an
entity to remain competitive in the market, it must formulate workable management strategies. In
this survey, it is demonstrated that it is the sole responsibility of the reflexive managers to make
sure that there is a flow of communication pattern in the company. The models include the research
the organization undertakes to understand the ethnography behind the rationale of self reflexivity.
The structures of the society still control the management of public administration via a conclusive
and elaborate formulation of the reflexive ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Therefore, it is vital for public administrators to become vigilant in embracing reflexivity when
dealing with employees, business partners, and the entire stakeholders. Management should make a
habit of understanding self reflexivity so that it can help in realizing the realities and the critical
nature of the organizational processes. There are two levels of reflexivity including the self and the
critical decision of minds (Cunliffe and Jong, 2005).
Reflexivity in Organizations
In the philosophy of science, reflex and reflection have been used categorically to mean the same
kind of phenomenon. It is vital to differentiate the two processes so as to know the better one that
suits the functions and operations of an organization. Reflection is primarily the check up of the
actual life issues in the mirror of knowledge and differentiating it from the vague assumptions.
Researchers look at h reflex mode as a means to diversify the workplace and obtain a high standard
of performance. The professionals involved try to use their skills to maintain the situational
improvement in the knowledge and class of actions in the administrations (Adriansen and Hunne,
2013). The leadership of any organization must embrace a further calculative and emotive approach
to addressing public governance. It only means that for an organization to govern their work
professionally, an assessment of the functions and legitimacy of

Importance Of The Historical Content Of A Modest Proposal
If you ignore the historical content of A Modest Proposal you will misunderstand it. Discuss.
When A Modest Proposal was published, or to give it s full name A Modest Proposal for
preventing the children of poor people in Ireland, from being a burden on their parents or country,
and for making them beneficial to the public. England dominated the whole of Ireland. English
landlords owned much of Ireland s property, Charging ridiculous amounts for rent to poor tenants
who could barely afford to pay. England imposed extremely high taxes on Ireland and the English
laws which restricted Irish trade made it impossible for the country to ever prosper. In general, the
English had, at this time, a negative attitude towards Irish people, and Roman Catholics which most
Irish people were. This knowledge is important when reading and understanding this piece.
Without knowing a little about the political and social state at this time, it may be difficult to pick
up on Swift s use of satire. However the piece itself, even the full title does educate the reader to an
extent, talking about different social classes and focusing particularly on the poor in Ireland. This
essay purports to be neither decisive nor conclusive, but merely attempts to assess the importance
on the historical content of A Modest Proposalin order to see if it is a required element when trying
to understand the piece.
Over time, England progressively gained full authority over Ireland. In 1541 the parliament in

Portfolio Project – Norma Rae Essay
They are free to exploit you, to lie to you, to cheat you and to take away from you what is
rightfully yours your health, a decent wage, a fit place to work (Asseyev, Rose, Ritt, 1979). In the
movie Norma Rae, union organizer Reuben Warshovsky, delivered this powerful speech to
workers at the O.P. Henley textile mill. He warned them that without union representation they
would continue to be taken advantage of by management. The movie, set in 1978, showed textile
workers in a small, southern town who were forced to work long hours for a measly wage in
deplorable and unsafe conditions. These workers were characteristically poorly educated and
largely unskilled (Leiter, 1986, p. 951). The management was neglectful of and apathetic to... Show

The on site mill doctor insensitively diagnosed the mother s problem as an expected side effect
of working at the mill. To this Norma Rae angrily declared to her mother, They don t care
anything about you (Asseyev, Rose, Ritt, 1979). Furthermore, Norma Rae s overworked father,
who was paid only $1.33 per hour, keeled over and died after being denied a break by his
supervisor when he was experiencing symptoms of a heart attack. Textile workers were oppressed
and dissatisfied, but had no voice in the mill. When workers become increasingly dissatisfied with
their present employment, they may seek to improve their workplace by forming a union instead of
leaving the position (Fossum, 2012, p. 7). Fossum (2012) suggests that dissatisfaction alone does
not mean that unionization will occur. Employees must also feel that they are unable to influence
change on their own and believe that collective bargaining would enhance workplace conditions
(Fossum, 2012). In the textile workers case, the mill was their livelihood. Unionization would be
their only chance to improve their quality of life. By gaining union representation, workers hope to
present a unified voice to management to negotiate acceptable workplace provisions. Unions give
workers a voice in decisions that affect them (Noe, Hollenbeck, Gerhart, Wright, 2007, p. 467). In
the movie, Reuben stressed to the mill workers that by joining the

Ludwig Van Beethoven And The Classical Era
Ludwig van Beethoven was a German composer and a predominant musical figure that created
the bridge from the classical era to the Romantic era. At a young age, Beethoven became
interested in music, which gave his father, Johann van Beethoven, the idea of making him the
next child prodigy like Mozart. Beethoven was brutally pushed to achieve the goal/dream of his
father. However, at the age of 13 he had to take on the responsibility of providing for the family
since his father was no longer able to. With his newly given responsibility, he requested a job at
the courthouse where he was assign as an assistant court organist earning an annual pay of 150
florins. Beethoven played both the piano and the organ and was very skilled at it, so in 1787,
the court decided to send him to study with Mozart in Vienna. Beethoven later rose to fame with
his musical pieces, but then became deaf in his early 20s, which made him aggravated. Not only
was he angry that one of his most valuable possession was gone, but also of his harsh childhood.
Beethoven died on March 27, 1827, in Vienna. Beethoven was born in Bonn, Germany December
16, 1770. He had four siblings originally, but unfortunately, his brother before him died just six
days after birth. His other brother Anton Karl was born in April 1774, his second brother Nikolaus
Johann was born in October 1776, and his only sister Maria Margaretha Josepha was born in1786.
However, out of all his siblings, Beethoven had the most difficult

Flight Patterns By Sherman Alexie
The story Flight Patterns is a short story in which Sherman Alexie, the author, presents Native
American literature which is new around this time in age. William Cline, the main character
represents your stereotype native American. This story takes place post 9/11; therefore, the
level of security has been increased greatly along with the amount of hostility towards darker
skinned people. William describes how he feels out of place because he has all the traits of a
native American but he feels likes he needs to try in order to keep up with his culture. He points
out that his wife, Marie, is the one that lives up to the title and has no cares in the world. Her
culture comes natural to her and she is not self conscious about her appearance unlike her
husband. Their daughter Grace, has a little bit of both parents. She has the carelessness of her
mother and yet she strives to be like her dad as well. William s family lives in Seattle and they
are one of the first native American families to settle there; therefore, racism is a very touchy
subject. Racism is something that is surrounding William yet he frowns upon it. This is very
contradictory because, although he is so quick to clarify that he is Native American brown, not
dangerous brown. William is self conscious about himself and does not want his color to define
him, yet at the same time he claims he takes pride is his color. In flight patterns the story is told in
the narrator s point of view. This is important

Cause And Effect Of Macbeth Act 3
Act 3 is the most brutal and violent scene in Macbeth. Banquo, the general of King Duncan s
army, is murdered. However, this wasn t an accident as it was planned by Macbeth prior to it
happening. It all started when Macbeth explained to his servants why killing Banquo is a necessity,
and he expounds on his reasons in a speech that he recently wrote. The motive behind this erratic
idea is that Banquos kids will eventually take over the throne because that s what the witches
predicted, and they were not wrong the first time. Anyhow, Macbethcalls in two men and orders
them to killBanquo. Of course the men question Macbeth s orders and explain to him that We are
men, my liege (Line 94), meaning they aren t use to killing and doing such things.

Being at the right place, time, and uniform displays discipline and supports the team. The
consequences are more significant than the rewards. It can either make everything very simple,

In one sudden movement, I found myself lying down. From what had once been a still and
contemplative stare forward, I suddenly had no recollection of how I landed with my eyes
observing upwards with my head at a ninety degree angle from the ground. I became aware of how
finely cut the edges of the Drakensburg wild grass were, as they sliced through the thick hair on
my head and legs, pushing eagerly towards my scalp and skin, pulling me further into the
ground, returning me. I became aware of how unstable the ground was as it bubbled and flowed
past the bends and protrusions of my spine, preparing to split beneath me and return me. I
became aware of how silent the air was as I listened for a voice of consolation but was met with the
wallowing of daggered winds. I noticed the sky above me. Too soon yet too late, I was holstered
from my daze and told to return.
Eyes widened. Pupils dilated. Shivering. Wincing. I tried to squirm. I tried to scream. As I gazed
at the ephemeral blackness, extending past the reaches of my peripheral vision, I found the three
burning balls on Orion s Belt. There they were. They must have been real. For a few metres to the
right a perfectly spaced constellation in the shape of a repulsively large woman beamed. She

Main Idea Of The Tempest
The Tempest by Shakespeare is called after what happened in the beginning. The island is the
setting of the story. It seems to be an island with no people at it at first. The island has rivers and
green trees. It seems to be a good place for people to love. Although it looks like a deserted island
people can go and live their if they want to. If course if they want to survive they need to know
how to built. The tempestis the cause of the story without it the story would not even exist or it
would but in a different way. The story starts with a tempest that is destroying everything. The

whole story would could change into a wedding of Alonso s daughter. It would be nice for some
people to read and some not because it would not be that interesting as it is now. Thank the
tempest for the start or the beginning of the story that we read and loved. There is no doubt about
it the tempest is the big cause that the story went to the history of some people that read the story.
Now it is stuck in the people s life now and we can not get rid of it thank the tempest. Further
more some of the characters have positive connotations. In a way the existents of the tempest in
the story is good. The main characters did not like the fact they are stuck on an island. The only

In Fahrenheit 451, Mildred is justified in turning Montag in for having books for the reason, that

product of her environment and has fallen in the trap of the mind numbing society that she lives

it s a huge deal. Another reason that Mildred is justified in turning Montag in is because she as his

Pros And Cons Of Living At Home Vs Living On Campus
Almost every new coming freshman face the choice of living at home or living on campus
during the start of their college career. For most college students it is an easy compromise to
move away from home, while for others it really makes no sense. The change from home life to
dorm life generates a major step for some students. Living at home versus living on campus comes
with many advantages and disadvantages. These include money, convenience, and time. Living at
home can be both a positive and negative aspect of one s life. Students choosing to live at home
have an advantage of money problems since living on campus is not cheap. Usually, staying with
your parents is cheaper than staying in a dorm room. The cost of a dorm room can be as much as
the cost of the college. The students cannot negotiate the price of the on campus dorms, and if a
resident did not pay for the next year of housing, they could potentially be kicked out. Whereas,
living at home, no parent would kick out their child and they would not have to worry about
paying rent. Students would also save a boatload of money on the cost of food and supplies. Their
parents would pay for the food in the house and any necessity that would be required. This includes
doing laundry, cooking homemade meals, or an unlimited amount of time in the shower. However,
with many pros living at home there equally a number of pros and cons dealing with convenience
when students live on campus or at home. Students

What do visual hallucinations tell us about the nature of...
What do visual hallucinations tell us about the nature of consciousness?
The term hallucination is difficult to define. There is a fine line between a hallucination and an
illusion . A hallucination differs from an illusion in that illusions are a product of misinterpretations
of external stimuli whereas hallucinations need no such requirement making them an entirely
internal process. A true hallucinationcan also be distinguished from a pseudo hallucination in which
the individual can recognise that what they re seeing or hearing is not real. Hallucinations are also
different from voluntary mental imagery, in that the thought has not uncontrollably forced itself
onto our minds. Slade and Bentall (1988, cited in Blackmore, 2010) ... Show more content on

The best way to induce hallucinations, or where they occur the most, is through sensory
deprivation. Charles Bonnet Syndrome (CBS) is a common condition among people who have lost
their sight in which they suffer visual hallucinations. Many studies have looked at the syndrome in
order to provide a better understanding of visual hallucinations. One study exhibited a 64 year old
blind woman suffering from complex visual hallucinations (McNamara, Heros, Boller, 1982). It was
found that neurosurgical removal of a large suprasellar meningioma helped remove her
hallucinatory experiences. Such a case study provides evidence that hallucinations are related to
both a sensory deprivation and an impairment in CNS functioning. Another study claimed that,
through looking at patients suffering from CBS, the hallucinations were due to an interruption in
the visual association areas of the cerebral cortex. The researchers suggested that hallucinatory
experiences could terminate on improving visual function or addressing social isolation (Menon,
Rahman, Menon, Dutton, 2003).

Mary And Frankenstein Comparison
Solitude was my only consolation deep, dark, deathlike solitude (Shelley 100), Mary Shelley
writes in her well known 19th century novel, Frankenstein. Frankenstein, or The Modern
Prometheus, is the famous horror novel that Mary Shelley began writing at the young age of 19
and published at the age of 21 in 1818 (Mary Shelley Biography). Mary Shelley subtly compares
herself to the creature she creates in her novel, Frankenstein, due to the fact that they were both
shunned by society, both the creature and Mary suffered horrible loneliness, and Mary also
presented many parallels that the monster shares with her personal life.
Mary Shelley is known for her unique personality and ambitions for a woman of this time period.

Pynchon’s Vision of America in The Crying of Lot 49 Essay
First published in 1965, The Crying of Lot 49 is the second novel by American author Thomas
Pynchon. The novel follows Oedipa Mass, a young Californian housewife, after she unexpectedly
finds herself named the executrix of the estate of Californian real estate mogul, and ex boyfriend,
Pierce Inverarity. In reflecting on their history together, Oedipa recalls how her travels with
Pierce helped her acknowledge, but not overcome, the poignant feeling that she was being held
paralyzed and isolated from the world (and others) within a staid, middle class existence by some
invisible and nefarious external force. Moreover Oedipa struggles to understand why Pierce would

To assess this vision of an American society heading towards stasis developed in The Crying of Lot
49, one must first discuss the concept of entropy.
Broadly speaking, entropy refers both to the level of disorder and uncertainty in a system. The
concept originates from thermodynamics, where it is used to describe the thermal energy in heat
engine that is unavailable to be converted into work (i.e. transferred through a change in form or
location). The second law of thermodynamics stipulates that within a self contained system like a
heat engine, the aggregate measure of entropy must remain the same or increase over time because
with no external energy inputs, the system s net energy flow gradually subsides as the gaps
between its higher and lower energy particles decrease through the transfer of heat as they interact.
This diminishing gap between particle energy levels, denoted in part by a stabilization in
temperature and phase state (e.g. solid, liquid, or gas), reflects the system s progression towards a
state of thermodynamic equilibrium, or maximum entropy, where particles regress into towards a
uniform set of characteristics and inertness as the net energy flow grows infinitesimal. In moving
towards equilibrium the system also becomes increasingly disordered because in losing their
distinctiveness particles become fungible, rendering attempts to impose order and coherence on the
system by drawing relations and distinctions between

Moralism In Dorian Gray
A Deal With the Devil The idea of selling your soul comes from the German story, Faust. In the
legend, moral integrity is taken in exchange for an object of desire. Dr. Faustus sells his soul for
twenty four years of good luck, however, is haunted by his fear of hell. Similar to the legend,
Dorian Gray sells his soul for eternal beauty. His desire to repent and rid of the painting, from
which his soul is trapped in, until he is consumed by the temptation. The painting decays to the
point of no return, while Dorian s true character became more obscured, day by day. Dorian is a
Faustian character due to his selling of his soul, the impossibility of his redemption, and his
inevitable demise. Lord Henry was a crucial point in the corruption of Dorian; however, was he
the Devil? The only way to get rid of a temptation is to yield to it. Resist it, and your soul grows
sick with longing for the things it has forbidden to itself, with desire for what its monstrous laws
have made monstrous and unlawful (Wilde 13). This begins the shaping of Dorian s character, as
Lord henry continues to feed Dorian information even giving him literature to read. Throughout
the beginnings of Dorian slipping away from his moral integrity, Dorian is increasingly growing
obsessed with the ideas of Lord Henry. The relationship between Lord Henry and Dorian almost
parallels the relationship between Basil and Dorian. Basil s fascination with Dorian s beauty is
mirrored by Dorian s desire to discover the

Advantages Of Anti Dynasty In The Philippines
There is political dynasty when members of the same family or clan has dominated or occupied
elected positions either in sequence for the same position, or simultaneously across different
positions, this is now a problem in Philippine politics that the government itself cannot solve.
Why? Because majority of the people seated in position are members of political dynasties. They
want to stay in office because of the strong desire for power, greed, and authority. But why are
they still seated even though we have the power to vote? When almost all of us are aware that
they come from the same dynasty? We cannot blame the Filipino people for that. Because these
people are so greedy that they use their money, influence, and wealth to exploit our votes. In that
way, they will dominate politics. I would try to lay down some reasons why I am in favor of

come to a stop. First, it is unconstitutional. According to Article II Section 26 of the 1987
Constitution:The State shall guarantee equal access to opportunities for public service, and
prohibit political dynasties as may be defined by law. With this we can understand that political

Muslim Minorities Security in OIC Member States
Muslim Minorities Security in OIC Member States
Division within the Muslim world did not begin until after the death of the Prophet Muhammad. It
arose in the form of political uncertainty about who would be the next leader of the Muslim
community after the death of the Prophet. One group of thinkers, who came to be known as Shiites
(Shia meaning faction in Arabic), believed that authority in the Muslim world should stay within
the family of the Prophet, and so pointed to Ali and his son Husayn, Muhammad s close relatives.
Another group, known as Sunnis, believed that the person most worthy to lead should become the
caliph, no matter his bloodline (Strayer 423). Over the centuries, this Sunni/Shiite divide only
widened. Several Shiite rebellions mainly failures invested them with an ideology that their dead
leaders were simply hiding, leading them to develop the belief in the Hidden, or Twelfth, Imam
who would one day return and set right the Shiites problems with the Sunnis (Strayer 423). Other
minor differences exist in the two groups ideology, with Shiites placing weight just on the teachings
of Muhammad and his descendants, whereas the Sunnis recognize works from other influential
early Muslim leaders. Several subdivisions exist within Shia Islam; their differences exist in how
many imams throughout history they recognize as legitimate. One major offshoot of Sunni Islam
Wahhabism originated in the teachings, military state building, and reformist tendencies

Three Dialogue Between Hylas Analysis
In Three Dialogues Between Hylas and Philonous, Berkeley strains the link between the physics
and metaphysics in may ways that all are connected through the first two dialogues. It is explained
that they argue that the same object can appear to have different characteristics depending on the
observer s perspective. Since objective features of objects cannot change without an inherent change
in the object itself, shape must not be an objective feature. Berkeley attempts to show that believing
in mindindependent matter leads to foolishness and skepticism. Berkeley also invites us to accept
instead the ideology of idealism going into materialism, where the only things that exist are minds

contends that no material things exist, not just that some non material things exist there is no such
thing as philosophers call a material substance (55). Part of Berkeley s attack on matter is to argue
that this question cannot be answered by the materialists, and that they cannot characterize their
supposed material things. However, an answer that captures what exactly it is that Berkeley rejects
is that material things are mind independent things or substances. Philonous concept on material
substance is not how we think of it today. It is the metaphysical substratum imperceptible

It may be that the company perceives no profitable use for internally generated funds because of a

On the other hand, especially when a company offers to buy its shares at a substantial premium

Serbian Nationalism And Identity Of A Nation State s...
Perhaps one of the biggest points of contention in Serbia is nationalism and identity. Serbian
nationalism is especially unique due to its particular ethnic implications. It can be traced back to
the rise of nationalism in the Balkans during Ottoman rule. Serbia has existed between various
empires and nation states. Many Serbians voice the need for self autonomy, often citing being ruled
by outsiders for hundreds of years. Today Serbiaseen by its people as an unfinished state. Thus, the
need for creating autonomous identity is especially relevant.1 Ristic in her essay on Serbian
identity, that the formation of a nation state s identity is crucial to its wellbeing. In general, identity
is built upon three essential interdependent elements: 1. birth, which creates ties to family, nation
and to a concrete geographical space; 2. culture, which forms individuals and groups spiritually and
emotionally; 3. acceptance of common values which help creating communities of values. Hence
identity can be determined on the basis of the following categories: place of living (town or district
of town, country, continent etc), religion, family, profession, nation, age class, ideology etc.2
The problem with Serbian national identity is that there is not enough security in the
aforementioned criterion historically. Ristic states that defining national identity upon values and
ideology leads in Serbia to two relatively opposite understandings of national identity and the values
and norms

The current challenges facing traditional colleges and universities, including higher tuition, budget

larger than life powers. They are often found in comic books and movies. The Superheroes are
arguably the most well known type of heroes. Great examples include, Superman, Wonder Woman,
and Spiderman. The other type of heroes are the Vigilante. The Vigilante are the heroes that save

Some heroes just do their jobs. In the book, To Kill A Mockingbird
, by Harper Lee a lawyer named
Atticus Finch is an example of someone being a hero by doing their job. Atticus Finch is a

of the book s main characters, Jeremy Jem Finch and Jean Louise Scout Finch. In the book a,
which was set in the 1930s, a black man named Tom Robinson was accused of raping a white
girl. No lawyer wanted to help him because of his race, so Atticus decided to defend him even
though he knew he would lose. Even though the evidence was more than enough to prove that
Tom was innocent, he was found guilty. He was killed in prison with the prison guards claiming
he tried to escape even though evidence said otherwise. Atticus became a hero to all of the
blacks in Maycomb. He did not care about the color of Tom s skin. The book was set in a time
where racism and segregation were everywhere especially in Alabama. Atticus knew he couldn t
win the case but he tried anyway. He proved that one can be a hero by just doing their job and
treating others like human beings and not differently because of the color of their skin. The

On the contrary, Hemingway s short story does not establish a presence of Pathos. Hemingway
does very little in describing Jig and the American and both of their backgrounds. In fact, there is
no textual evidence regarding anything about these two characters. In Boyle s story, however,
there is an ample amount of background information supplied; this accomplishes the task of
getting readers to empathize for the characters which drives Pathos home to the heart. For
example, when Boyle expounds upon the future endeavors of the couple, he builds a

how China and Jeremy are both gifted students; he also insinuates that they will go off and do

couple is present. This paves way for an emotional connection. So, if Boyle were to revise
Hemingway s short story, Boyle would expound upon Jig s and the American s lives which would
lead to an intimate connection between the two and the readers. This would establish a sense of
Pathos and empathy while explaining the characters more definitely. Boyle and Hemingway s

Every story has a hero, because of that heroes come in all different shapes, sizes, and walks of life.
Even though every hero has different characteristics that make them a hero, there are a few
characteristics that put a hero above any other and makes them great. Even though Beowulf is a

One good quality of a hero is their humility and modesty, Alex has both, while Beowulfhas neither.

Descriptive Experience Of A Museum
When I first saw the museum I was amazed because the museum is surrounded by such beautiful
environment, being around such green grass, trees, and the sea although it was quite a way away
from the museum. The exterior of the museum, in my opinion, was a very cool be modelled after
Roman architecture. After entering in the lobby, I found it to be very orderly and the security gave
me a sense that the museum was heavenly guarded. After walking around the interior of the
museum, with security guards in every room, I found that it was just as great as the exterior. The
interior was amazing because each room was wide and each paintingor sculpturewas organized by
country and artist making a very order museum atmosphere which allowed viewers to think about
the artworks. Another thing about the inside of the museum was that each room was painted and
lighted to not clash with the artworks in the room, allowing viewers from all around the world to
see the true beauty of the artwork without the room messing up their perception of the paintings or
sculptures.
The first of the paintings I going to write about is the AllГ©e at Schloss Kammer. The AllГ©e at
Schloss Kammer is an oil painting which was painted by Gustav Klimt in 1912 making it one of his
late works. The painting had powerful spots of color, with a semi rough texture I think, and
showed a multiple trees overlapping a castle creating a very beautiful painting. After reading the
painting s label I found that the castle was a

According to Wikipedia fish processing refers to the processes having to do with fish and fish
products between the time fish are caught or harvested. The biggest concern of fish processing is
to make sure the fish doesn t deteriorate. The most common method for preserving the quality of
fish is to keep them alive until they are ready for cooking and eating. They also use other ways
such as controlling the temperature of the fish using ice, refrigeration or freezing, controlling the
water activity by drying, salting, smoking or freeze drying, and then there is the chemical control
by adding acids. This leads back to our testable question and hypothesis because it shows how the
outcome of this project relies on many different things such as how the fish is processed, knowing
this can show us how easy it may be for fish to break down in certain

Iago Is The Villain
William Shakespeare has some of the most memorable villains in all of drama. One of them is
known as Iago. Many people argue that Iago was the protagonist but that simply is not true. People
also think that since Iago manipulates Othello, they think the reasoning behind this is because Iago
truly thinks he is being honest, kind and steering him onto the right path. This is not right since Iago
knows what he is doing. Iago is the villain in Shakespeare s play, Othello, uses morals to prove that
Iago is the villain. Iago is the villain because he does not respect Desdemonalike everyone else
does, or Othello with his nobleness. Iago should be inspired by Othello by how he is noble, strong
and kind. And what s he then, that I play the villain?

Stephen Gould
Stephen Gould s article can be interpreted in a variety of different, but mostly positive ways. After
discovering that he had a rare form of un curable cancer, he set out to discover what exactly his
median life expectancy of eight months meant and where he would fall in this disheartening
distribution. After reviewing various medical journals, he found the distribution to look exactly like
he imagined: very rightly skewed. But, being that he was young and the cancer had been found
early, he determined that he would most likely fall into that rightly skewed distribution, meaning
that he would have more than the average eight months of life left. While finding this new
information and being subject to it, he learned that his perceiving daunting future wasn t as dreadful
as it appeared. With the help of his previous biological knowledge and positive attitude, he came to
conclude that his life expectancy, his life clock, wasn t what mattered most. Gould determined that
medianisn t the message . Meaning, his life expectancy wasn t what mattered, it wasn t even
accurate. Statistical data can so easily be misinterpreted because of outliers and medical conditions
can vary so radically. So, Gould found that his life clock wasn t what mattered as much as his...

In Gould s case, this meant that he had 50% chance of living past eight months. But another
concept prevails in this article regarding median, that being how easily data can be misinterpreted.
Gould makes a point to revel this information in the beginning of his article, quoting Hilaire Belloc
statement statistics are the triumph of the quantitative method, and the quantitative method is the
victory of sterility and death. This quote implies that statistics, can be quite troubling for those
facing its probable outcomes. But, according to Gould, if correctly understood, they can be

Compare And Contrast Augustus And Shi Huangdi
Caesar Augustus and Qin Shi Huangdi During the classical civilizations there were many types of
rulers and governments, two of these include Augustus from the Roman Empire and Qin Shi
Huangdi from the Qin Dynasty in China. Both of these emperors were from classical civilizations
but their own different civilization, on in Rome and the other in China. My goal in this paper is to
compare and contrast these two rulers from different civilizations by looking at their characteristics,
such as how they came to power, how they ruled, their successes and failures as well as their legacy.
First and foremost, both Augustus, whose original name was Octavian, and Qin Shi Huangdi came
to power through military power. While they both used military power... Show more content on

Both emperors kept their empire in control with rules and laws for their people, which is
undoubtedly a great success. Augustus mercilessly crushed anybody who opposed him as Qin Shi
Huangdi did but Augustus had punishments equivalent to those of the crime committed to where
Qin Shi Huangdi outright exaggerated on punishments for all his people. Due to Augustus doing
what was best for his people, he maintained Rome together and stable creating a period known as
Pax Romana due to unprecedented peace and economic prosperity throughout the Empire (Ancient
Rome, ushistory.org). After his death his dynasty began with the Five Good Emperors who ruled
after him with prosperity. On the contrary, after [Qin Shi Huangdi] died in 210 B.C.E., the dynasty
descended into factional rivalry, and four years later it was overthrown (Duiker and Spielvogel 98;

In South Africa, adolescence is a sensitive period, and not a critical period, for identity development
as it is a period during which normal development is most sensitive to abnormal environmental
conditions (Bruer, 2001). When looking at South Africa particularly, the abnormal environmental
conditions would be apartheid, and one will see its profound effects on identitydevelopment.
Adolescence is a sensitive period rather than a critical periodas a critical period focuses on a system
that requires a specific kind of experience if normal development is to occur (Bruer, 2001).
Therefore this essay will place an emphasis on adolescence as a sensitive period for identity
development.
One first needs to explore the term, sensitive ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Outside that specific time frame, the experience does not have the same effect (Armstrong et al.,
2006). For the reason that this essay is focusing on identity development in South Africa, it would
be more accurate in stating that adolescence is a sensitive period for identity development. Events
that affect individuals during a sensitive period have more chance overcoming the effects than if it
were a critical period. Thus, sensitive periods are subjects of theoretical interest and empirical
examination which will therefore contribute to the idea that adolescence is a sensitive period for
identity development in South Africa.
Identity development of South African adolescents in a democratic society is a crucial topic to
explore as one will find out how important adolescence is in determining one s identity. Given
South Africa s past, it is only correct in saying that apartheid had an enormous effect on people s
lives and in particular on adolescents. Once we examine the effects it had on adolescents, one
will realise that adolescence is considered to be a sensitive period for identity development.
Political and Social events such as the end of apartheid are likely to have a negative effect on an
individual s psychosocial development (Norris et al., 2008). Thom Coetzee (2004) stated that
identity formation depends mostly on how an individual recognises society and their expectations
of it. It also relies on specific stages in one s

clothing for both boys and girls sections are close together. I noticed that there are articles of
clothing that are similar for boys and girls, but they are called different names to make them more
masculine or feminine. For example, shirts for girls are called fashion tops and just shirts for
boys. Some patterns that I saw in the clothing/toys is that for almost each advertisement or label

Other factors are how kids play with each other, their peers they are surrounded by, and the
media. Males tend to be more physical when they play indicating that they are more aggressive
than females are. Both males and females play different sports than females. An instance would
be football, soccer, and wrestling, compared to cheerleading, gymnastics, and volleyball for the
girls. Football, soccer, and wrestling are a more physical contact sport than cheerleading,
gymnastics or volleyball are. Peers is also another part for socialization because the way boys or
girls act around each other. Children follow by example, so if they see their friends doing
something, they will most likely follow. As children get older, peers plays a bigger part in
influencing children to act a certain way according to society and other peers. Lastly, the media
is additionally has a huge impression on how kids should act and look. The commercials for
children on T.V. convince children what they should be playing with, who they should be
playing with, how they should look, and how they should act. It is very rare to see girls playing
Legos or hot wheels in commercials. The same is for boys, commercials do not promote boys
playing with and accessorizing with Barbie dolls. Some clothes that are deemed to be gender
neutral are certain types of shirts and shoes. An example of a gender neutral shirt

The Problem Essay
Position Statement
The key managerial problem which John Fahey is facing is to decide as to whom the e commerce
head should report, in the current organizational structure of NGS, so that the new position gives
him enough freedom to leverage the growth opportunities of the e commerce platform efficiently.
How much span of control for the new head is required to cope with declining print media sales and
build the right balance between allocating investments and revenue allocations across different
product units of the organisation? He should also have enough exposure to build strong customer
relationships and brand loyalty by improving the membership program using e commerce.

He should also take care of allocating the cost of this content generation and their respective
revenue streams across divisions.
Decision Options and Analysis
Option 1: The new head should report to Tim Kelly, president and CEO of Global Media Group.
This will give him tight control over different media units like the NGM, the book publishing,
television etc. and help in building brand value by providing a meaningful and engaging
experience to customers which is aligned to the latest mission i.e. to inspire people to care about
the planet . The downside of this option is he will have little exposure with researchers, writers
and explorers. Also the allocation of funds to expensive mission programs will still remain a
problem as it requires close coordination with Enterprise group.
Option 2: The new head reports to Linda Berkley, the head of Enterprise Group. Reporting to
Linda will help him better manage the funding of mission programs and also help him channel the
revenue to different product units in a way which will help the overall mission of the society. The
downside will be less coordination between the different media channels, poor decisions on topic
selection as each channel will try to maximize its profit diluting the brand as a whole. Customer
experience will continue to be dispersed resulting in failure to engage them and bring back the old
membership feeling in

Personal Narrative-Padre Island
I jumped on my bed at 12 in the morning. I can t wait for tomorrow! It s going to be a
tremendous day. My family; Dad, Mom, little brother Andrew and I, are going to South Padre
Island early in the morning! I couldn t stop thinking about it. What am I going to be able to do
there? How will the hotel look like? Pause. The list can go on and on, but first, I need some sleep.
It s going to be a great time with my family.
Ring! Ring! My alarm rang at 5:15 am. I enthusiastically ran downstairs trying to let my legs get
moving. The first thing I see is loads of bags and luggage. Good morning, Ashley! Mom and Dad
cheered at me. I waved my hand and wondered about how they could be still efficacious with all
the packing. Andrew is on the couch napping with a sausage ... Show more content on

layers of soft, feathered blankets over me, and probably holding onto five different head
pillows. I can t believe we get to go to South Padre Island for three days! I yelled to my family. It
takes about eight hours to arrive at our hotel, so I definitely got carsick. The good news was that
we got to eat fast food! Andrew and I got to sleep a lot while the parents got to drive. We arrived
after 7 pm to our hotel. Then, we grabbed our heavy, bulky, luggage and brought them to our
room to the 2nd floor. After we unpacked, we were exhausted and all but we still had the stamina
to go down to the beach and take a view on the glazing ocean water. It looked very delicate like a
clear foil was laid on top of the water. I doused my feet in the cool, numb water. While digging my

The Book Thief And V For Vendetta
Autocracy in a government calls for rebellion due to the lack of control and corruption. As a result
the many representations of significant values are elucidated in the novel The Book Thief by
Markus Zusak and the film V for Vendetta by James McTeigue emphasising the concepts of
totalitarianism and rebellion by subjected governments. The Book Thief parallels with the
contextual influences of the Nazi Party ruled by Adolf Hitlerin the 1930s. Whereas V for Vendetta
draws a direct correlation from the horrendous acts in Iraq governed by George Bush subsequent
to the infamous attack of 9/11. V for Vendetta is a mirroring film of the contextual influence of the
terror attack of 9/11 in 2001, during George Bush s presidency. It... Show more content on

It represents the significant idea that it allows people to come to a realisation that values such
as rebellion occurs due to the manipulation and wrongful domination of the government.
Furthermore, the rebellious acts presented within V for Vendetta is also showcased through the

Its purpose is to further gain understanding of the impact of rebellion in the representation of the
significant idea that there is always beauty in the wake of brutality. If we re fast we won t get

there is always a glimmer of hope to reunite and make world peace. Through Rudy s

afraid, he still wants to help others as he was not cold hearted like the government. Hence, this
act was a rebellious act as the Germans were suppose to discriminate and hate the Jews. There

A Smart City Is Not Just About The Good Things
Life is not just about the good things or just about the bad things. It is both. It all depends on where
you focus your attention. Similarly, this quote taken from author Anne Marie Aguilar emphasizes
this paper s argument that the concept of a smart city has positive, but also negative impacts, such
as generating class division and social inequality. However, because attention is directed towards
the positive effects, this often leads one to overlook the primarily negative influence of this
phenomenon. To start with, we define a smart cityas a city in which ICT is merged with traditional
infrastructures, coordinated and integrated using new digital technologies , (Batty, 2012). A real
world example of this would be India, where its government has announced their Smart Cities
Mission ( 2nd smart cities, 2015). Eventually this category of cities will lead to social inequality
and exclusion, as companies, and cities focus on those who can pay to generate profits, while
ignore the social benefit of the predominant lower class citizens of India. And finally, this
exclusion, will add to the digital divide in India as a result of the unequal access to modern
information, communication and technology, something a smart city revolves around. Furthermore
a smart city s focus is to enable more efficient forms of urban management and service delivery ;
however, this city leads to more than just that (Smith, 2015). Clearly, the model of a smart city
holds factors which create

the social differences between males and females. In episode 15 Joey uses pickup lines to try to

Practitioners believe sitting on the sand painting helps the patient to absorb spiritual power, while in turn the Holy People will absorb the illness and take it away. Afterward, when the sand painting has served its purpose, it is considered to be toxic, since it has absorbed the illness. For this reason, the painting is destroyed. Because of the sacred nature of the ceremonies, the sand paintings are begun, finished, used and destroyed within 12 hours. The colors for the painting are usually accomplished with naturally colored sand, such as crushed gypsum (white), yellow ochre, red sandstone, charcoal and a mixture of charcoal and gypsum (blue). Other coloring agents include corn meal, flower pollen, or powdered roots and bark. Sand paintings are not the only artforms created by the Navajo, there are also rugs. Navajos came to the southwest with their own weaving traditions; however, they learned to weave cotton on upright looms from Pueblo peoples. Navajo women believe the art of weaving was taught by Spider Woman, who constructed a loom according to directions given by the Holy People. By the 18th century the Navajos had begun to import Bayeta red yarn to supplement local black, grey, and white wool, as well as wool dyed with indigo. Using an upright loom, the Navajos made extremely fine utilitarian blankets that were collected by Ute and Plains Indians. A seminal study recently commissioned by a government Committee of Teacher Education Policy (COTEP), the so called National Teacher Education Audit (henceforth referred to as the Audit), reported that there is an over supply of teachers in some school subjects (e.g. Biblical Studies) and an under supply in other subjects (e.g. Science and Mathematics). These findings seem to corroborate widespread news reports that new teachers are not finding employment. The apparent contradiction between supply and demand alluded to above raIses important questions regarding the employment of teachers. Is there, in fact, an oversupply of teachers? Do teacher education graduates find employment in teaching? Do Science and Mathematics teacher education graduates, in fact, fill positions in these assumed critical areas? To address these and related questions, a study was designed to track a cohort of new teachers with the goal of ascertaining their employment status in the years immediately following their graduation. ,The study used a longitudinal tracer study design to trace the 1995 cohort of teacher graduates of the Faculty of Education, University of Durban Westville. Data were collected at three different periods: at graduation (July 1996), at the end of the school year (December 1996), and at the beginning of the new school year (January 1997). The Sports channels forget to air the good things that people have done and the work they have accomplished. Non Corporations And Its Impact On Fostering Change Abstract Despite the fact that many organizations have embraced the new management strategies in reflexivity, there are still countless issues in the same regard. It is also vital to remember that for an entity to remain competitive in the market, it must formulate workable management strategies. In this survey, it is demonstrated that it is the sole responsibility of the reflexive managers to make sure that there is a flow of communication pattern in the company. The models include the research the organization undertakes to understand the ethnography behind the rationale of self reflexivity. Therefore, it is vital for public administrators to become vigilant in embracing reflexivity when dealing with employees, business partners, and the entire stakeholders. Management should make a habit of understanding self reflexivity so that it can help in realizing the realities and the critical nature of the organizational processes. There are two levels of reflexivity including the self and the critical decision of minds (Cunliffe and Jong, 2005). Reflexivity in Organizations In the philosophy of science, reflex and reflection have been used categorically to mean the same kind of phenomenon. It is vital to differentiate the two processes so as to know the better one that suits the functions and operations of an organization. Reflection is primarily the check up of the actual life issues in the mirror of knowledge and differentiating it from the vague assumptions. Researchers look at h reflex mode as a means to diversify the workplace and obtain a high standard of performance. The professionals involved try to use their skills to maintain the situational improvement in the knowledge and class of actions in the administrations (Adriansen and Hunne, 2013). • 9. Importance Of The Historical Content Of A Modest Proposal If you ignore the historical content of A Modest Proposal you will misunderstand it. Discuss. When A Modest Proposal was published, or to give it s full name A Modest Proposal for preventing the children of poor people in Ireland, from being a burden on their parents or country, and for making them beneficial to the public. England dominated the whole of Ireland. English landlords owned much of Ireland s property, Charging ridiculous amounts for rent to poor tenants who could barely afford to pay. England imposed extremely high taxes on Ireland and the English laws which restricted Irish trade made it impossible for the country to ever prosper. In general, the English had, at this time, a negative attitude towards Irish people, and Roman Catholics which most Irish people were. This knowledge is important when reading and understanding this piece. Without knowing a little about the political and social state at this time, it may be difficult to pick up on Swift s use of satire. However the piece itself, even the full title does educate the reader to an extent, talking about different social classes and focusing particularly on the poor in Ireland. This essay purports to be neither decisive nor conclusive, but merely attempts to assess the importance on the historical content of A Modest Proposalin order to see if it is a required element when trying to understand the piece. Over time, England progressively gained full authority over Ireland. In 1541 the parliament in ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Portfolio Project – Norma Rae Essay They are free to exploit you, to lie to you, to cheat you and to take away from you what is rightfully yours your health, a decent wage, a fit place to work (Asseyev, Rose, Ritt, 1979). In the movie Norma Rae, union organizer Reuben Warshovsky, delivered this powerful speech to workers at the O.P. Henley textile mill. He warned them that without union representation they would continue to be taken advantage of by management. The movie, set in 1978, showed textile workers in a small, southern town who were forced to work long hours for a measly wage in deplorable and unsafe conditions. These workers were characteristically poorly educated and largely unskilled (Leiter, 1986, p. 951). The management was neglectful of and apathetic to... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The on site mill doctor insensitively diagnosed the mother s problem as an expected side effect of working at the mill. To this Norma Rae angrily declared to her mother, They don t care anything about you (Asseyev, Rose, Ritt, 1979). Furthermore, Norma Rae s overworked father, who was paid only $1.33 per hour, keeled over and died after being denied a break by his supervisor when he was experiencing symptoms of a heart attack. Textile workers were oppressed and dissatisfied, but had no voice in the mill. When workers become increasingly dissatisfied with their present employment, they may seek to improve their workplace by forming a union instead of leaving the position (Fossum, 2012, p. 7). Fossum (2012) suggests that dissatisfaction alone does not mean that unionization will occur. Employees must also feel that they are unable to influence change on their own and believe that collective bargaining would enhance workplace conditions (Fossum, 2012). In the textile workers case, the mill was their livelihood. Unionization would be their only chance to improve their quality of life. By gaining union representation, workers hope to present a unified voice to management to negotiate acceptable workplace provisions. Unions give workers a voice in decisions that affect them (Noe, Hollenbeck, Gerhart, Wright, 2007, p. 467). In the movie, Reuben stressed to the mill workers that by joining the ... • 11. Ludwig Van Beethoven And The Classical Era Ludwig van Beethoven was a German composer and a predominant musical figure that created the bridge from the classical era to the Romantic era. At a young age, Beethoven became interested in music, which gave his father, Johann van Beethoven, the idea of making him the next child prodigy like Mozart. Beethoven was brutally pushed to achieve the goal/dream of his father. However, at the age of 13 he had to take on the responsibility of providing for the family since his father was no longer able to. With his newly given responsibility, he requested a job at the courthouse where he was assign as an assistant court organist earning an annual pay of 150 florins. Beethoven played both the piano and the organ and was very skilled at it, so in 1787, the court decided to send him to study with Mozart in Vienna. Beethoven later rose to fame with his musical pieces, but then became deaf in his early 20s, which made him aggravated. Not only was he angry that one of his most valuable possession was gone, but also of his harsh childhood. Beethoven died on March 27, 1827, in Vienna. • 12. Flight Patterns By Sherman Alexie The story Flight Patterns is a short story in which Sherman Alexie, the author, presents Native American literature which is new around this time in age. William Cline, the main character represents your stereotype native American. This story takes place post 9/11; therefore, the level of security has been increased greatly along with the amount of hostility towards darker skinned people. William describes how he feels out of place because he has all the traits of a native American but he feels likes he needs to try in order to keep up with his culture. He points out that his wife, Marie, is the one that lives up to the title and has no cares in the world. Her culture comes natural to her and she is not self conscious about her appearance unlike her husband. Their daughter Grace, has a little bit of both parents. She has the carelessness of her mother and yet she strives to be like her dad as well. William s family lives in Seattle and they are one of the first native American families to settle there; therefore, racism is a very touchy subject. Racism is something that is surrounding William yet he frowns upon it. This is very contradictory because, although he is so quick to clarify that he is Native American brown, not dangerous brown. William is self conscious about himself and does not want his color to define him, yet at the same time he claims he takes pride is his color. In flight patterns the story is told in the narrator s point of view. This is important ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

First Draft 7 October 2016 Word Count = 1000 In one sudden movement, I found myself lying down. From what had once been a still and contemplative stare forward, I suddenly had no recollection of how I landed with my eyes observing upwards with my head at a ninety degree angle from the ground. I became aware of how finely cut the edges of the Drakensburg wild grass were, as they sliced through the thick hair on my head and legs, pushing eagerly towards my scalp and skin, pulling me further into the ground, returning me. I became aware of how unstable the ground was as it bubbled and flowed past the bends and protrusions of my spine, preparing to split beneath me and return me. I became aware of how silent the air was as I listened for a voice of consolation but was met with the wallowing of daggered winds. I noticed the sky above me. Too soon yet too late, I was holstered from my daze and told to return. Eyes widened. Pupils dilated. Shivering. Wincing. I tried to squirm. I tried to scream. As I gazed at the ephemeral blackness, extending past the reaches of my peripheral vision, I found the three burning balls on Orion s Belt. There they were. They must have been real. For most college students it is an easy compromise to move away from home, while for others it really makes no sense. The change from home life to dorm life generates a major step for some students. Living at home versus living on campus comes with many advantages and disadvantages. These include money, convenience, and time. Living at home can be both a positive and negative aspect of one s life. Students choosing to live at home have an advantage of money problems since living on campus is not cheap. Usually, staying with your parents is cheaper than staying in a dorm room. The cost of a dorm room can be as much as the cost of the college. The students cannot negotiate the price of the on campus dorms, and if a resident did not pay for the next year of housing, they could potentially be kicked out. Whereas, living at home, no parent would kick out their child and they would not have to worry about paying rent. Students would also save a boatload of money on the cost of food and supplies. Their parents would pay for the food in the house and any necessity that would be required. This includes doing laundry, cooking homemade meals, or an unlimited amount of time in the shower. However, with many pros living at home there equally a number of pros and cons dealing with convenience when students live on campus or at home. Students ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

There is a fine line between a hallucination and an illusion . A hallucination differs from an illusion in that illusions are a product of misinterpretations of external stimuli whereas hallucinations need no such requirement making them an entirely internal process. A true hallucinationcan also be distinguished from a pseudo hallucination in which the individual can recognise that what they re seeing or hearing is not real. Hallucinations are also different from voluntary mental imagery, in that the thought has not uncontrollably forced itself onto our minds. Slade and Bentall (1988, cited in Blackmore, 2010) ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The best way to induce hallucinations, or where they occur the most, is through sensory deprivation. Charles Bonnet Syndrome (CBS) is a common condition among people who have lost their sight in which they suffer visual hallucinations. Many studies have looked at the syndrome in order to provide a better understanding of visual hallucinations. One study exhibited a 64 year old blind woman suffering from complex visual hallucinations (McNamara, Heros, Boller, 1982). It was found that neurosurgical removal of a large suprasellar meningioma helped remove her hallucinatory experiences. Such a case study provides evidence that hallucinations are related to both a sensory deprivation and an impairment in CNS functioning. Another study claimed that, through looking at patients suffering from CBS, the hallucinations were due to an interruption in the visual association areas of the cerebral cortex. The researchers suggested that hallucinatory experiences could terminate on improving visual function or addressing social isolation (Menon, Rahman, Menon, Dutton, 2003). Deprivation of hearing can also induce hallucinations. Sometimes the deaf hear hallucinated sounds they may even hear whole orchestras playing. Various case studies have demonstrated such a claim. To assess this vision of an American society heading towards stasis developed in The Crying of Lot 49, one must first discuss the concept of entropy. Broadly speaking, entropy refers both to the level of disorder and uncertainty in a system. The concept originates from thermodynamics, where it is used to describe the thermal energy in heat engine that is unavailable to be converted into work (i.e. transferred through a change in form or location). The second law of thermodynamics stipulates that within a self contained system like a heat engine, the aggregate measure of entropy must remain the same or increase over time because with no external energy inputs, the system s net energy flow gradually subsides as the gaps between its higher and lower energy particles decrease through the transfer of heat as they interact. This diminishing gap between particle energy levels, denoted in part by a stabilization in temperature and phase state (e.g. solid, liquid, or gas), reflects the system s progression towards a state of thermodynamic equilibrium, or maximum entropy, where particles regress into towards a uniform set of characteristics and inertness as the net energy flow grows infinitesimal. In moving towards equilibrium the system also becomes increasingly disordered because in losing their distinctiveness particles become fungible, rendering attempts to impose order and coherence on the system by drawing relations and distinctions between ... Lord Henry was a crucial point in the corruption of Dorian; however, was he the Devil? The only way to get rid of a temptation is to yield to it. Resist it, and your soul grows sick with longing for the things it has forbidden to itself, with desire for what its monstrous laws have made monstrous and unlawful (Wilde 13). It arose in the form of political uncertainty about who would be the next leader of the Muslim community after the death of the Prophet. One group of thinkers, who came to be known as Shiites (Shia meaning faction in Arabic), believed that authority in the Muslim world should stay within the family of the Prophet, and so pointed to Ali and his son Husayn, Muhammad s close relatives. Another group, known as Sunnis, believed that the person most worthy to lead should become the caliph, no matter his bloodline (Strayer 423). Several Shiite rebellions mainly failures invested them with an ideology that their dead leaders were simply hiding, leading them to develop the belief in the Hidden, or Twelfth, Imam who would one day return and set right the Shiites problems with the Sunnis (Strayer 423). Two stories. There is nearly an eighty year difference in publish dates. T. However, the stylistic techniques that both writers exhibit are entirely different. These two well known authors both write entirely different from each other; moreover, some of the writing choices made would strike a disagreement between Boyle and Hemingway. On the contrary, Hemingway s short story does not establish a presence of Pathos. Hemingway does very little in describing Jig and the American and both of their backgrounds. In fact, there is no textual evidence regarding anything about these two characters. In Boyle s story, however, there is an ample amount of background information supplied; this accomplishes the task of getting readers to empathize for the characters which drives Pathos home to the heart. For example, when Boyle expounds upon the future endeavors of the couple, he builds a relationship with the characters and the readers; He d been accepted at Brown... ...own G.P.A. would put him in the top ten percent of their graduating class. However, the reader s want of success for the couple is present. This paves way for an emotional connection. So, if Boyle were to revise Hemingway s short story, Boyle would expound upon Jig s and the American s lives which would lead to an intimate connection between the two and the readers. After discovering that he had a rare form of un curable cancer, he set out to discover what exactly his median life expectancy of eight months meant and where he would fall in this disheartening distribution. After reviewing various medical journals, he found the distribution to look exactly like he imagined: very rightly skewed. But, being that he was young and the cancer had been found early, he determined that he would most likely fall into that rightly skewed distribution, meaning that he would have more than the average eight months of life left. While finding this new information and being subject to it, he learned that his perceiving daunting future wasn t as dreadful as it appeared. With the help of his previous biological knowledge and positive attitude, he came to conclude that his life expectancy, his life clock, wasn t what mattered most. Gould determined that medianisn t the message . Meaning, his life expectancy wasn t what mattered, it wasn t even accurate. When looking at South Africa particularly, the abnormal environmental conditions would be apartheid, and one will see its profound effects on identitydevelopment. Adolescence is a sensitive period rather than a critical periodas a critical period focuses on a system that requires a specific kind of experience if normal development is to occur (Bruer, 2001). Outside that specific time frame, the experience does not have the same effect (Armstrong et al., 2006). For the reason that this essay is focusing on identity development in South Africa, it would be more accurate in stating that adolescence is a sensitive period for identity development. Events that affect individuals during a sensitive period have more chance overcoming the effects than if it were a critical period. Thus, sensitive periods are subjects of theoretical interest and empirical examination which will therefore contribute to the idea that adolescence is a sensitive period for identity development in South Africa. Identity development of South African adolescents in a democratic society is a crucial topic to explore as one will find out how important adolescence is in determining one s identity. Given South Africa s past, it is only correct in saying that apartheid had an enormous effect on people s lives and in particular on adolescents. Once we examine the effects it had on adolescents, one will realise that adolescence is considered to be a sensitive period for identity development. Political and Social events such as the end of apartheid are likely to have a negative effect on an individual s psychosocial development (Norris et al., 2008). Similarly, this quote taken from author Anne Marie Aguilar emphasizes this paper s argument that the concept of a smart city has positive, but also negative impacts, such as generating class division and social inequality. However, because attention is directed towards the positive effects, this often leads one to overlook the primarily negative influence of this phenomenon. To start with, we define a smart cityas a city in which ICT is merged with traditional infrastructures, coordinated and integrated using new digital technologies , (Batty, 2012). A real world example of this would be India, where its government has announced their Smart Cities Mission ( 2nd smart cities, 2015). Eventually this category of cities will lead to social inequality and exclusion, as companies, and cities focus on those who can pay to generate profits, while ignore the social benefit of the predominant lower class citizens of India. And finally, this exclusion, will add to the digital divide in India as a result of the unequal access to modern information, communication and technology, something a smart city revolves around. Furthermore a smart city s focus is to enable more efficient forms of urban management and service delivery ; however, this city leads to more than just that (Smith, 2015).
