its funding primarily through federal and local taxation totaling $208 billion (Deliotte).
However, this large amount of spending is not reflected in the quality of healthcare provided to
Brazilians. Brazil has an estimated 2.5 hospital beds per 1,000 citizens and the beds are of bad
quality and are poorly distributed (Deliotte). Brazil s Federal Medical Council conducted a
survey that showed 93% of Brazilians considered the healthcare systems to be either very bad or

One of the most used materials in human history is glass or more specifically silicate glass.
Although some types of glasses are called crystal glass, glass is actually an amorphous solid and
does not have a crystal structure. It is used in all walks of life ranging from homes to automobiles
to laboratories. Historically, the one of the first types of glass that was used by humans to make
tools and weapons was the volcanic glass known as obsidian. As for manmade glass, the earliest
accounts date back to 5000 BC in the middle east. Primitive methods of glass making were used
until about 100BC, when glassblowing was believed to be discovered. This discovery made glass
products popular in the Roman Empire since the development of glassblowing allowed glass
production to be more efficient and thus less expensive. As the centuries went on more techniques
were developed which eventually lead to glass products being widespread. This paper will discuss
some of the methods of glass production throughout history, the types of silicate glass, and the

A less dictionary like definition of poetry is, putting the best words in the best possible order. The
poet may astutely choose words possibly with a double meaning in order to indirectly convey a
message, evoke emotions, or to slander. Then, the poet may unconventionally place such words
and phrases perhaps out of expected order for the sake of creating a wordpicture, emphasizing the
speaker s feelings, or offering tangibility to the poem. By incorporating this idea onto works, the
poet will have auspiciously written a superb poem. This theory may be applied to a few of
Catullus s poems specifically Carmen 5 , Carmen 8 , and Carmen 85 . The meticulous choice of
words and arrangement highlight the central focus of the poem, obliquely criticize traditional
Roman law, manipulate the audience s attitude, transmit the speaker s emotions, paint word
pictures, and offer symbolic meaning consequently producing a successful poem. For starters,
Carmen 5 is an amorous poem Catullus wrote directed at his forbidden lover, Lesbia. Catullus

only have one life to seize. Therefore, Catullus demands hundreds and thousands of kisses in a

Concert Chamber Music Analysis
The concert Chamber Music by Two, Three and Four was made up of three different pieces.
Each of the three pieces were composed by, in order, W. A. Mozart, M. Ravel, and J. Brahms.
Performing the pieces were Alicia Eppinga on the cello, Barbara Corbato on the viola, Mark
Clinton on the piano, and Mihai Craioveanu on violin. These musicians performed sub sections
within the pieces known as movements, which brought their own sense of individuality to the piece
while still creating a sense of unity across the board.
The first piece consisted of piano, violin, and cello. In each of the movements, there were different
musical contexts and styles that lead to the creation of a story the different phases of life. As the
entire piece progressed, the tonality shifted from being very light hearted, energetic, and happy in
the first movement, to a calmer more relaxing mood in the second, to a more tense and high strung
character in the last. There were more noteworthy characteristics of the piece other than the shifts in
tone. For example, the piano seemed to remain the dominant instrument throughout the whole piece
while the violin and the cello accented it and added depth to the different movements creating a
homophonic texture. Throughout the second movement, the violin and cello mimicked the
melodies of the piano quite a bit as well. Tempos also varied according to the movement,
contributing to their tones. Allegro in the first and last movements created the upbeat and intense

Ralph Waldo Emerson was born on May 25, 1803, in Boston, Massachusetts to Ruth Haskins
Emerson and William Emerson, minister (Waldo, 1983). Emerson eventually grew up to also

century would progressively be stamped by the conflict between its more seasoned conservation

I just don t think I can continue to live in a place that embraces and nurtures apathy as if it was
virtue. Morgan Freeman speaks these words in the movie Se7en after declaring that he is going
to quit his job as a detective. His character sees crimes of hate, aggression and murder every day,
and he also observes the public s reaction to them. People turn a blind eye; they no longer care.

Crying and vomiting, love making and dying, and beauty and sickness are paired together and
stressed in his novel Blue of Noon. Bataille s main character is almost a complete opposite to what
is considered a normal human being. The character loves what is evil and debaucherous. He even
finds the dead more sexually attractive than the living. Bataille uses this estranged character to
