Published classroom materials form the basis of syllabuses, drive teacher professional development, and have a potentially huge influence on learners, teachers and education systems. All teachers also create their own materials, whether a few sentences on a blackboard, a highly-structured fully-realised online course, or anything in between. Despite this, the knowledge and skills needed to create effective language learning materials are rarely part of teacher training, and are mostly learnt by trial and error.
Knowledge and skills frameworks, generally called competency frameworks, for ELT teachers, trainers and managers have existed for a few years now. However, until I created one for my MA dissertation, there wasn’t one drawing together what we need to know and do to be able to effectively produce language learning materials.
This webinar will introduce you to my framework, highlighting the key competencies I identified from my research. It will also show how anybody involved in language teaching (any language, not just English!), teacher training, managing schools or developing language learning materials can benefit from using the framework.

being included in the sample and no assurance that
every element has a chance of being included.

Sampling Simple Random Sampling
• all are in the sampling
• the only basis of including or excluding members
is by chance or opportunity
Systematic Sampling
• Chance and system are the ones to determine
who should compose the sample
10. Cluster Sampling
• This is a probability sampling that makes you
isolate a set of persons instead of individual
members to serve as sample members
Stratified Sampling
• The group compromising the sample is chosen in
a way that such group is liable to subdivision
during the data analysis stage
11. Types of Non-Probability
Sampling Quota Sampling
• Using a quota or a specific set of persons whom
you believe to have the characteristics of the
target population involved in the study is your
way of showing that you have chosen closely
represents the target population as regards such
characteristics
12. Voluntary Sampling
• Sample selection are the ones volunteering to
constitute the sample, there is no need for you to
do any selection process
Purposive or Judgmental Sampling
• You chose people whom you are sure could
correspond to the objectives of your study
13. Availability Sampling
• People who show willingness to respond to your
questions, then you automatically consider them
as your respondents
Snowball Sampling
• This sampling does not give a specific set of
samples. You tend to increase the number of
people you want to form the sample of your
study
