The document discusses research on film genres and audience demographics in the UK. It finds that the hybrid genre covers thriller/suspense, horror, and disaster genres, appealing to over 16s. While these genres combined reach 113% of the population, the hybrid genre itself is considered niche rather than mainstream. The target audience is identified as males over 35 and females under 35, typically middle-class parents. Though females over 35 watch thrillers, they were excluded as an anomaly. The genres in the hybrid have varying popularity, so elements included in marketing need careful consideration to appeal to targets.

In this unique followup to the classic SHORT-SHEETED issue, Goldengate not only tips his hand and reveals more CLUES n midshipman Phillip Spencer’s sheet-anchor of Greek code, but there’s a deep-context dialogue on the first USCS surveys of the Oregon coast, and the mysterious misplacement of quite a few rivers… with implications for the location of the river of myth: SHIT RIVER !! Plus Goldengate revisits Sullivan’s island off Charleston harbor, SC, for another look at Edgar Allen Poe’s $100 prize-winning tale, “The Gold Bug,” where he focuses in on some interesting details in USCS charts of Maffit’s Chanel – not just Drunken Dick Shoal, but the location of “Huger’s house” – is it really LeGrand’s lodgings? You decide….
As a group we are establishing our primary and secondary target audience as this will allow us to create a film opening that appeals to our target audiences.

The Roman Empire A Historical Colossus.pdfkaushalkr1407
The Roman Empire, a vast and enduring power, stands as one of history's most remarkable civilizations, leaving an indelible imprint on the world. It emerged from the Roman Republic, transitioning into an imperial powerhouse under the leadership of Augustus Caesar in 27 BCE. This transformation marked the beginning of an era defined by unprecedented territorial expansion, architectural marvels, and profound cultural influence.
The empire's roots lie in the city of Rome, founded, according to legend, by Romulus in 753 BCE. Over centuries, Rome evolved from a small settlement to a formidable republic, characterized by a complex political system with elected officials and checks on power. However, internal strife, class conflicts, and military ambitions paved the way for the end of the Republic. Julius Caesar’s dictatorship and subsequent assassination in 44 BCE created a power vacuum, leading to a civil war. Octavian, later Augustus, emerged victorious, heralding the Roman Empire’s birth.
Under Augustus, the empire experienced the Pax Romana, a 200-year period of relative peace and stability. Augustus reformed the military, established efficient administrative systems, and initiated grand construction projects. The empire's borders expanded, encompassing territories from Britain to Egypt and from Spain to the Euphrates. Roman legions, renowned for their discipline and engineering prowess, secured and maintained these vast territories, building roads, fortifications, and cities that facilitated control and integration.
The Roman Empire’s society was hierarchical, with a rigid class system. At the top were the patricians, wealthy elites who held significant political power. Below them were the plebeians, free citizens with limited political influence, and the vast numbers of slaves who formed the backbone of the economy. The family unit was central, governed by the paterfamilias, the male head who held absolute authority.
Culturally, the Romans were eclectic, absorbing and adapting elements from the civilizations they encountered, particularly the Greeks. Roman art, literature, and philosophy reflected this synthesis, creating a rich cultural tapestry. Latin, the Roman language, became the lingua franca of the Western world, influencing numerous modern languages.
Roman architecture and engineering achievements were monumental. They perfected the arch, vault, and dome, constructing enduring structures like the Colosseum, Pantheon, and aqueducts. These engineering marvels not only showcased Roman ingenuity but also served practical purposes, from public entertainment to water supply.
2024.06.01 Introducing a competency framework for languag learning materials ...Sandy Millin
http://sandymillin.wordpress.com/iateflwebinar2024
Published classroom materials form the basis of syllabuses, drive teacher professional development, and have a potentially huge influence on learners, teachers and education systems. All teachers also create their own materials, whether a few sentences on a blackboard, a highly-structured fully-realised online course, or anything in between. Despite this, the knowledge and skills needed to create effective language learning materials are rarely part of teacher training, and are mostly learnt by trial and error.
Knowledge and skills frameworks, generally called competency frameworks, for ELT teachers, trainers and managers have existed for a few years now. However, until I created one for my MA dissertation, there wasn’t one drawing together what we need to know and do to be able to effectively produce language learning materials.
This webinar will introduce you to my framework, highlighting the key competencies I identified from my research. It will also show how anybody involved in language teaching (any language, not just English!), teacher training, managing schools or developing language learning materials can benefit from using the framework.

Operation “Blue Star” is the only event in the history of Independent India where the state went into war with its own people. Even after about 40 years it is not clear if it was culmination of states anger over people of the region, a political game of power or start of dictatorial chapter in the democratic setup.
The people of Punjab felt alienated from main stream due to denial of their just demands during a long democratic struggle since independence. As it happen all over the word, it led to militant struggle with great loss of lives of military, police and civilian personnel. Killing of Indira Gandhi and massacre of innocent Sikhs in Delhi and other India cities was also associated with this movement.
The French Revolution, which began in 1789, was a period of radical social and political upheaval in France. It marked the decline of absolute monarchies, the rise of secular and democratic republics, and the eventual rise of Napoleon Bonaparte. This revolutionary period is crucial in understanding the transition from feudalism to modernity in Europe.

UK Film Council – Research and Planning
By looking at these figures we can see that our genre covers a mixture of three mainstream genres,
those being thriller/suspense, horror, and disaster. This suggests that we will have to base our film
opening around a theme that is popular with the population over 16 years of age, so it appeals to a
wide range of target audiences. With the three genres combined, we get 113% of the population who
enjoy watching the hybrid of genres, giving us a wide range of conventions to cover. However
because our genre is a ‘sub-genre’, it is not on the list and therefore could be considered as niche as
opposed to mainstream.

With these statistics, we can see what genre preferences the generalpublic enjoy watching. I can see
that from these figures, the demographic audience we will need to target males over 35 (primarily)
and females under 35 (secondary). This allows us to create our film opening so it appeals to a wide
range of people. Typically these people are parents and are from a middle class background. Although
in the statistics shown there is a large percentage (60%) of females over the age of 35 who enjoy
watching thriller/suspense, we felt like this figure (when compared) was an anomaly and so we
removed it from our data, but we are aware that the target audience could also be females over the age
of 35.

‘
From these statistics we can see that our hybrid genre contains a mixture of opinions. Although the
idea of having a thriller/suspense genre is high up in the statistics, the disaster is quite low. The
thriller/suspense genre has a 26% rating, whereas disaster has a 5% rating which claims that it is not
very popular with the British nation. This suggests that we will have to be careful what we include in
our film opening as certain elements could appeal to the target audience, although some could not.
4. Thalia Barrett UK Film Council Research and Planning Media AS Studies
From the information provided, we can see the types of film the public consider their favourites to be.
From this we can see that the demographic audience we’d be aiming at would be a wide range of
audiences, from males over 35 (primarily) and females (secondary). They would be a mixture of
parents and non-parents, and they all would be from the middle class.
In conclusion, we believe that there is a wide range to cover for the genres that we have analysed in
this task. However because our genre is a sub-genre (zombie), it does not appear in the data that the
British public find to be their favourite, and therefore we would have to class our target audience as a
niche audience as opposed to mainstream.
