Essay on Grapes Of Wrath
The Grapes of Wrath nbsp; nbsp; nbsp; nbsp; nbsp;John Steinbeck wrote The
Grapes of Wrath, a remarkable novel that greatly embodied the entire uprisal of the
Great Depression and the Dust Bowl in the 1930 s. The usage of imagery and
symbolism help to support his many different themes running through the course of
the novel. His use of language assisted in personifying the many trials and
tribulations which the Joad family, and the rest of the United States, was feeling at
the time. This was a time of great confusion and chaos because no one really knew
what the other was going through, they were all just trying to hold their own. To
display the many sides of the depression Steinbeck developed the use of intercallorie
chapters, and he... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
He also used animal imagery throughout the novel. The most prominent description
of these animals was the highly symbolic land turtle. The back legs went to work,
straining like elephant legs, and the shell tipped to an angle so that the front legs
could not reach the level cement plain (20). The old humorous eyes looked ahead,
and the horny beak opened a little. His yellow toe nails slipped a fraction in the
dust (21). This sort of description gives the reader an impression of struggling effort
with a lack of results, which was part of the hardship the people in the Dust Bowl
were experiencing. Steinbeck used the descriptions of the characters themselves to
create images, typically giving the people animal qualities. Joad s lips stretched tight
over his long teeth for a moment, and he licked his lips like a dog, one in each
direction from the middle (16). Also, he used imagery to portray the people of the
time, and the weariness of their life and emotions: Lines of weariness around the
eyes, lines of discontentment down from the mouth, breasts lying heavily in little
hammocks...the mouths panting, the eyes sullen, disliking sun and wind and earth,
resenting food and weariness, hating time that rarely makes them beautiful and
always makes them old.(199) Steinbeck s usage of
How People Give Up Rights When Using an Airline
Many people modern day use airlines as a form of transportation. To be able to use
this service passengers must have their bags and personal belongings checked by
the airline. Airlines do this for the safety of their passengers and to ensure that no
catastrophe happens during flight. But when this is done are passengers giving up
their rights? Is it right for someone to go through your personal belongings? Or is
this procedure only for security reasons? What rights do airplane passengers give up
by allowing themselves to be checked before boarding?
When Someone travels with an airline they must have their baggage checked before
boarding the plane. Some people feel that this invades their privacy and that it is not
necessary. Why... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
3. The owner of the firearm must be at the screening or the item and provide the
combination or key to open the secure container containing the firearm. 4.ant and all
ammunition must be placed in fiber or packaging specifically designed to hold
ammunition. And 5. The ammunition must be in the same container as the unloaded
firearm. As long as when traveling with a firearm you follow all of these procedures
you can legally bring a gun with you while traveling with an airline. Once again
these rules might restrict your rights as an American citizen but they do NOT take
away your rights as an American citizen. And there is also rules with sharp objects
such as knives. The only rule that there is on these items is,1. It can not be in carry
on luggage and it must be securely wrapped to prevent injury. So once again it is
one hundred percent legal to bring a weapon with you while flying with an airline
service. Also if someone fells that having their baggage checked is taking away their
rights that is also not true. The FAA (a government run organization) enforces these
rules and regulations for the airline passengers safety and for no other reason except
for the passenger s safety. Also by having these rules enforced by the government they
can not possibly eliminate your rights as an American citizen (although they might
restrict them temporarily). And concerning the rule for having baggage checked, it is
up to the airlines to charge
Nurturing Donor Analysis
Nurturing Donors Organizations must view their potential donors as people instead
of a potential donation. Organizations must effectively and efficiently collect and
organize data about each potential donor in order to tailor strategies and techniques
that encourage and persuade the individual to support their cause (Weinstein, 2013, p.
110). Organizations must listen carefully to the desires of the potential donor and use
this information to create an appeal for support. Once this information is collected it
should be documented using fundraising software or an Excel spreadsheet
(Weinstein, 2013, p. 73). Although data collection and organizational systems are
great, they are useless if the organization does not use the information to request
support from unique donors (Weinstein, 2013, p. 111).

An Analog, Voice Grade, Basic Form Telephone Service
Essay
POTS is an analog, voice grade, basic form telephone service that connects home
and businesses to central office telephone networks around the globe. It is based
off of the Bell Telephone system and runs over copper twisted pair wires that form
the local loop. (What is Plain Old Telephone Service (POTS), 2015). It is used more
than any other phone system because it is reliable. The band path frequencies are
limited to 300 to 3400 hertz.
Local Land Line Phone System:
Local Loop the local loop is the copper wire connection that is created when the two
pair copper twisted pair is connected to the central office.
Central Office using switches, the central office connects the user to other local
subscribers, other central offices, or long distance providers.
Local Exchanges are connected by trunk lines. The local exchanges connect to local
households in the area. The local exchanges aggregates by multiplexing the individual
calls using timeslots.
POP point of presence is where the telephone company will hand its service off to a
subscriber.
Long Distance System this is purchased from the local carrier. A Picc code is
assigned to the long distance carrier network and is handed off when a 1 is pushed
to make a long distance call.
Fixed Line is also known as a landline telephone that uses metal wire or fiber optic
telephone lines for transmissions.

The Issue Of Animal Testing
In Regent Street in London s West End, a performance was staged in a Lush
cosmetics store window. In a revolutionary step towards the elimination of animal
testing, artist and activist Jacqueline Traide collaborated with Lush to present a
disturbing display of the potential circumstances of animal testing. Traide was
dragged across the floor, had her mouth stretched open with hooks, was force fed,
had scientists give her injections, had her hair shaved off, and had products tested
on her skin and in her eyes all to create a harsh display for potential people passing
by. This unsettling exhibit of something akin to torture was Lush s attempt to covey
to their emphasis of cruelty free products and push for people to sign the petition...

She defamiliarizes the usual photos of miserable and damaged animals by placing
herself as the subject of animal testing. By creating a spectacle of herself, she draws
curiosity to viewers through her unconventional manner of depicting animal testing.
The viewer can only retreat to shock at realizing that an actual person was suffering
and struggling in response to the action of animal testing. Although Sontag argues
that avoiding the spectacle makes the purpose of the photo/exhibit more effective,
this may only apply to that of familiar exposure, such as war photos. The scenes
portrayed in the store window of Lush show novel forms of distress and torture. As
Sontag point out, the suffering presented in war photos produce more of a
voyeuristic approach rather than a push for change. Sontag states, Perhaps the only
people with the right to look at images of suffering of this extreme order are those
who could do something to alleviate it or those who could learn from it. The rest of
us are voyeurs, whether we like it or not (Sontag, 89). In Lush s campaign, the
audience definitely has an opportunity to remodel the system of cosmetics testing;
they have the right to witness Traide s discomfort since they can possibly evoke
change especially since Traide has precisely prepared the audience for it. Traide s
performance produces more of a discomfort rather than voyeurism leaving people

T he concept of Satan as an evil presence in our modern day definition exists as
mainly a made up superstition; however, for the ancients this evil spiritual force
persisted as a tangible and intangible influence. Justifiably, due to their fear untold
satanic ruins and other relics were destroyed as a means of purification; whereupon,
the visible reality of Satanas an authentic supernatural presence abides extremely
diluted. Feasible, the factual existence of Satan s ancient evil surfaced more factual
than a vast number of people would presume. Thus, spiritually through this visible
and the invisible presence developed what some may call the spirits of lust.

Forecasting By Vector Autoregression Models
CHAPTER NINE
FORECASTING BY VECTOR AUTOREGRESSION MODELS
9.1 Vector Autoregressive (VAR) Models
Vector Autoregression (VAR) models were introduced by the macro econometrician
Christopher Sims (1980) to model the joint dynamics and causal relations among a set
of macroeconomic variables. The vector autoregression (VAR) is commonly used for
forecasting systems of interrelated time series and for analyzing the dynamic impact
of random disturbances on the system of variables. The VAR approach sidesteps the
need for structural modeling by treating every endogenous variable in the system as a
function of the lagged values of all of the endogenous variables in the system.
The vector autoregression (VAR) model is one of the most successful, flexible, and
easy to use models for the analysis of multivariate time series. It is a natural
extension of the univariate autoregressive model to dynamic multivariate time series.
The VAR model has proven to be especially useful for describing the dynamic
behavior of economic and financial time series and for forecasting. It often provides
superior forecasts to those from univariate time series models and elaborate theory
based simultaneous equations models. Forecasts from VAR models are quite flexible
because they can be made conditional on the potential future paths of specified
variables in the model.
In addition to data description and forecasting, the VAR model is also used for
structural inference and policy analysis. In structural
The Issue Of Time Can Never Be Overemphasized
The issue of time can never be overemphasized, to me, every human being is
unique, and so is with everything they do. Since we are the expert of our own
lives, how we experience and interpret time solely depends on us. That is to say, not
everyone on the planet sees the idea of time in the same way. I know that as there
are distinctive objective scales of physical time, there are diverse cultural scales of
subjective time. However, what is very common in every culture is that we tend to
see time in line that is we call things of yesterday or years ago things of the past and
things of tomorrow things in the future. Although the past, present or future has
different meanings to different peoples, but there is a preconceived notion that... Show

This short story talks about a book that is also called The Garden of Forking Paths.
Yu Tsun meets a man called Dr, Stephen Albert who showed him a letter written by
his grandfather, Tu si pen. Before this encounter, Yu Tsun reflects early in the story,
everything happens to a man precisely now. Century follows century, and things
happen only in the present (64). With this, Yu Tsun portrays time in a linear manner.
That is, people experience time as an issue of present minutes, one after the other.
When the minute is experienced, on the other hand, it no longer exists. Because of
this, the past is no more genuine than the future. Both exist no place but in the human
mind: the past fits in with the domain of memory, while the future has a place with
the domain of imagination.
Nevertheless, when Yu Tsun arrives at Dr. Stephen Albert s home, the notion of
time as linear is challenged. Albert explained to Yu Tsun that Ts ui Pen his ancestor
did not believe in a uniform, absolute time. He believed in an infinite series of
times, in a growing, dizzying net of divergent, convergent, and parallel times (69) .In
this development of time, all presents, pasts, and future exist at the same time.
Further, every choice an individual makes prompts diverse future. Tu si Pen made a
decision that led to several futures, and here is what he did; In all fiction, when a
man is faced with diverse alternatives, he picks one and eliminates the others, but, Ts

users to meet people or make friends all over the world. Communication via chat
rooms are beneficial and most users find it easier and convenient, but It can be a
double edged sword for many users because many do not realize or disregard the
dangers of online chatting. The article published on CBS NEWS about Ex NYPD

favor and decide that the use of a computer for personal use is not the violation of

unauthorized access to the computer and doesn t mention any criteria regarding the
use of computers. But the decision is very critical because it is not just about the
Valle case if the court makes a decision in his favor may employers will be

There should be rules and the CFAA should also cover the misuse of authorized
computers. If the rules are set its prevents higher rank officers from misusing the
computer. If not we have to worry about Quis custodiet ipsos custodes? They are
watching us, but who is watching them, they have the power doesn t mean they can
do whatever they want therefore strict rules and laws must be maintained so that

TRADE UNIONISM, COLLECTIVE BARGAINING AND NATION BUILDING:
THE NIGERIAN EXPERIENCE Charles N. Okolie Introduction It is a well known
fact that the growth and development of any nation depends on the structures it has
carved out for itself. In Nigeria, amidst the various arms of the government which
has been working tirelessly to ensure the growth and sustenance of the Nigerian
state is the emergence of trade unions. The colonial influence in Nigeria has left
much to be desired. The emergence of these trade unions has become a desired form
of association in order to restore the dignity of professional workers and more so

activities was the mechanics mutual aid provident and mutual improvement

was more concerned with efficiency in the civil service and intensified
nationalization of the service than with hard core trade unionism. Some other ones

of teachers. Those who formed the railway workers union were dissenters from the
civil service union. The reason for this break away of the railway workers to form
the workers union was because they believed that the civil service union was too
soft spoken on fundamental issues and more so, the civil service union was not
responsive to the economic dictates of the period. More so because the new unions
were made up of skilled workers or artisans in various trade, they were placed on a
strategic position and so a strike by them could paralyse the economy. As an
offspring of this association of skilled workers, the NUT was formed. The reason for
the formation was that the teachers were dissatisfied over conditions of employment.
The African leaders were not happy that the working conditions in the mission
schools were poorer than those of their contemporaries in the government owned

The Dairy Farmer, The Perception That The Public Has...
Introduction For the modern dairy farmer, the perception that the public has
regarding the industry has a significant impact on their overall wellbeing as a
company. However, most people in modern society have little personal experience
with farming, and their opinions are often based on second hand information
(Boogaard et al. 2010). In general people are more concerned with the welfare of
the animals and want them to be able to display natural behaviours like grazing on
pasture for most of the day (Cardoso et al. 2016). This however, can prove very
problematic for dairy producers as it results in lower control over feed intake and
body condition score of the cows. Body Condition Score (BCS) is a management
tool used to assess body fat stores in dairy cows (Ferguson et al. 1994). It has been
correlated with overall reproduction, health and productivity of dairy cows at it is
considered one of the most practical methods of assessing changes in energy stores
(Berry et al. 2007; Bewley et al. 2008). However, due to its subjectivity and time
consumption it is not a widely used management tool in the industry. There are many
studies that try to use technology as a way of making an automatic system for BCS.
This paper aims to identify the perspectives on the BCS from the public and the
producer, benefits of using an automated BCS and current technologies available.

My Last Duchess Meaning
The quote from the poem My Last Duchess by Robert Browning describes the part
toward the end where the Duke is talking to someone about what led to the death of
his wife. Evidence supported by the quote itself, specifically the line Much the same
smile? This grew; I gave commands: / Then all smiles stopped together. There she
stands/ As if alive (45 47), leads us to the conclusion that jealousy and arrogance got
the best of the Duke, which made him give the orders to have his wife killed.
The Duke is perceived to be the jealous, dominating type when it came to his wife
who is now dead; starting with the monk Fra Pandolf, whom he chose to paint the
portrait of his wife. He chose him over other painters because FrГЎ Pandolf would

Why Is Winston Churchill A Turning Point Of Ww2
The Battle of Britain fought from July 10, to October 31 1940 was the largest,
cruelest air battle in history fought in World War Two. The battle was between
Germany and Britain. Britain was sinking ships carrying Germans across the
channel, therefore Hitler wanted to destroy the British air force in order to stop he
called for operation Sealion (the invasion of Britain) by sending the his air force (the
Luftwaffe) to destroy the RAF in order to make it easier to take control of the entire
country. Germany was feared, they invaded and defeated every country in their path.
However, Britain won which set a turning point of WW2, marking the first defeat of
Hitler s military forces. Winston Churchill, becoming the prime minister of World War

To What Extent Was The Civil War Unavoidable
I believe the Civil War was unavoidable because even if slavery wasn t wanted to be
banned then, other wanted changes in America s society would have triggered the
war. The Civil War changed so many different aspects within our own country, these
changes were mostly involved with social issues and rights. The Civil War marked
the beginning of a large reformation period. After the 13th Amendment came out and
slavery was banned, more amendments of change came into view. 14th amendment
was pronounced and gave the right to every citizen born on US soil, gained
citizenship to America. Soon after this, voting was considered a right and African
American men wanted it. This became known as the 15th amendment. All the drama

Irving Fisher Contributions Essays
Hundreds of individuals have impacted economics throughout its vast history. Only a
handful of these individuals are household names recognized with economics today.
However, many lessor known economists have made lasting impressions, often
making attributions to the theories we know today. One of these individuals who
influenced economics in this way was Irving Fisher. Irving Fisher was a very unique
and brilliant man. He attended Yale University where he studied mathematics. He
later used this background and applied it to economics, earning a PhD in economics,
the first from Yale University. His study of mathematics played a crucial role in how
his theories evolved. Almost all of his work involves mathematical computations to

Fisher explains that when the equilibrium between these two factors exists, the
interest rate is thus determined. This theory of interest is still how we determine
interest, even after about 100 years have passed since its introduction. Clearly this
theory was well ahead of its time. In addition, Fisher stated that the real rate of
interest generated by the interaction between the impatient rate and opportunity rate
was not always the nominal rate due to inflation. He stated that the nominal rate
minus the inflation rate equals the real rate that you are expected to earn. This
relationship is known as the Fisher Effect and is a major principle in economics and
finance in everyday calculations.
From these same works Fisher also developed the concept of the expenditure tax. The
expenditure tax is different from the income tax because one is only taxed on income
minus one s net savings, rather than one s whole income. Fisher believed the income
tax induced bias against saving and created double taxation on both the income you
earned initially and the income you earn from investing or saving money.Irving
Fisher also made major contributions in to monetary economics. He expanded the old
quantity theory of money by introducing the equation of exchange (MV = PT) in The

How Is Contemporary America A Better Society
The United States is worldwide known as The Great Melting Pot a country that
accepts and respects people no matter their race and origin. But in reality, America
has been struggling with racism throughout it s history. Studies show that about half
of Americans believe that racism is still a big problem in our society. But despite
this, racismhas improved over the years. Contemporary America is a better society
in terms of discrimination than it was in the 1960 s. In the 60 s racism was so
severe that African Americans had to face racial segregation, white supremacy and
unequal opportunities. In saved by Malcom X, Malcom depicts his view on racism
in the 60 s as his hatred for white peoplegrows as he learns more about African
AmericanHistory and the horrors that white people have done throughout history.
Contemporary America is a better place to live than it was in the 1960 s. The USA
has improved a lot since the civil rights movement. In todays society, African
Americans are given equal rights as white Americans and racism seems to be
fading away as the years pass and our society becomes more and more accepting of
diversity. African Americans between ages now believe that it s easier for them to
achieve the American Dream than it was for their parents. We can see this by the fact
that more and more African Americans are going to college and becoming successful.
President Obama is an example of this. The fact that we have an African American
president shows that our
The Importance Of Dramatic Play In The Classroom
The first chapter discussed the importance of dramatic play in the classroom and
how it develops creativity and imagination through providing children with the
freedom to express themselves how they deem fit. Dramatic play is a critical aspect
that must be incorporated into curriculum because it is the student s way to
understand and deal with the world. As students begin to develop they will model
behaviors in which they observe. An example of this would be, students are provided
with a doctorcart in the housekeeping center with various tools and outfits that may
be found in a doctor office. Students that may have anxieties about the doctor, may
be able to work them out by giving their friends or stuffed animals shots or practice
taking temperatures. Additionally, dramatic play is an important part of students
with special needs lives because it encourages socialization with peers and allows
the children to take the lead and develop their own ideas to play. I have seen my
students with IEP s and my two ELL students, fully engage in dramatic play with their
peers building their socialization and cooperationskills. In comparison, it is
important to reflect on activities done in the classroom and extend the skills to
introduce new ones. An example of this would be, all week my cooperating
teacher read books about Halloween and about fall. Later in the week she
introduced trick or treating baskets with fake candy to the children and explained
how these items would be placed in the housekeeping center. Recently I have also
seen a stuffed turkey make its way into this center for Thanksgiving. As the seasons
and holidays change, my cooperating teacher is adding more props to extend the
students play. Through reading I also learned that children s imagination will turn

the corner of the center for the dog. The chairs act as a gate, similar to a kennel the
children would put their dog in at home. However, I read that it is appropriate for
children in the housekeeping center to move about the entire space, not just confining
to one area because that
Cambodia Genocide Research Paper
The Cambodian Genocide has had drastic effects on the country of Cambodia like,
the economy, geography/wildlife, and people/population. For five years Cambodia
suffered and no one knew it was happening. President Nixon secretly bombed
Cambodia which ended up killing thousands of Cambodians and Americans. After the
bombing nobody even looked back at Cambodiagiving the genocide perfect cover,
without anyone knowing it was even happening. Before the Khmer, Cambodia was
one of the most economically advanced countries in the world. Now the country is
one of the poorest in the world, and has one of the highest death rates in the world.
Food/Oil prices have greatly affected the poverty in the country. As the shortage of
food/oil gets greater, the entrepreneurs have to raise their prices so they will be able
to sustain their families. The less money the citizens have to pay with, the harder it is
for those entrepreneurs to make money which hurts the country s economy
drastically. Also the lack of food intake from the Cambodians affects their
productivity and efficiency... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

everything that happened between 1970 and 1980 hurt the forest in drastic ways.
The people desperate for work started to cut down trees in place of rice fields to work

with people desperate to supply for their families. The bombings that occurred right
before the genocide created hundreds of hills, valleys, and craters from the

So we can conclude that the relationship between the 3 month T Bill rate and implied
3 month forward rate of interest are closer than the relationship between 3 month T
bill rates and Dow Jones Index. 5.2(Third Model) Y=ОІ0+ОІ1X (ОІ0 = the intercept
of 3 Month T bill rate) (ОІ1 = the slope of implied 1 year forward rate of interest) 3
Month T Bill Rates= 0.01328+1.14838*implied 1 year forward rate of interest
Similarly with the second model, using the formula above, we can say that when
implied 3 month forward rate of interest increased by 1, 3 Month T bill rates will
increase by 114.838% .Compare with the second model, according to the SAS
output, we can see that the R square between3 month T Bill rate and implied 1 year

Operation Anaconda Case Study Analysis
Operation Anaconda Case Study When it comes to succeeding at anything, it is
important to plan, prepare, and rehears the outcome. In a combat zone, this becomes
even more important because lives and the success of the mission depend on it. This
was not the case however, during a fight called Operation Anaconda. The purpose of
this paper is to point out what went wrong with the lack of planning, coordination,
rehearsal, and preparation between Air and ground communications, and how it
proved to be critical during Operation Anaconda. The ending results were a delayed
execution and several friendly casualties. In February 2002, Special Forces
intelligence agents along with Advanced Force Operations (AFO), and the Central

Major Mark Davis conducted extensive interviews on this topic with air, ground, and
special operations commanders, staff officers, and other forces that participated in
Operation Anaconda. In his research, Davis found some major problems had
occurred that caused a failure in coordination efforts. The first error Davis sighted
was that the DOD failed to establish proper command structures and relationships
needed for integration among the systems (MacPherson 2005, p. 350). This made it
difficult for air and ground forces to communicate among each other when the battle
was underway. Davis also sites that U.S. Central Command Chief Franks, made a
costly decision to command the war from his office in Tampa, Florida. He was 7,000
miles and 10 time zones away from the battle front. Chief Franks believed that rather
than move himself and his unit, would speed up the operating progress and not slow
down the mission. Franks and his command relied on video phone conferences
instead of personal communications, which led to limited communications. Another
problem was that Franks gave lists of plans to be carried out rather than one battle
plan. Also, because of the large numbers of independent units that participated, it was
impossible for Franks to maintain communication presence and coordinate over this
large command structure. This ultimately left decision making in the hands of

Essay On Atonement
Adapted from Ian McEwan s novel Atonement. In 1935, thirteen year old Briony
Tallis (Saoirise Ronan) changes the lives of her sister Cecilia (Keira Knightley) and
lover Robbie Tuner (James McAvoy). She accuses Robbie of a crime he didn t
commit, which has damaging consequences and guilt which affects Briony s entire
life.
Cinematography is implemented in a variety of different ways to convey Briony s
character. Even before the introduction of Briony, an overview of her bedroom and
of the dollhouse, filled with model figures carefully arranged, reveals much about her
personality. This is the first evidence regarding the creative yet manipulative
personality of Briony. She has arranged her toys to replicate Noah s Ark,
demonstrating the side ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In the beginning of the film, 13 year old Briony witnesses the sexual tension
between her sister and Robbie; however, she does not completely comprehend what
she is seeing. As a result, this leads to the arrest of Robbie, as Briony believes that
what she saw was he assaulting both her sister and cousin Lola. This incident leads to
the concept of perception in which lighting is utilised in a clever way to illustrate
this. When Briony encounters Cecilia and Robbie in the library, the light shone on
half her face contrasts against the face shadowed on the other half. This is
symbolic to her perception of the situation, as she is only observing a portion of
what has happened. As Briony is only aware of half of the complete situation, this
causes her to misjudge the event. Similarly, when she discovers Lola being
assaulted, light is utilised through her torch when she discovers Lola, the torch
blinds her momentarily, throwing her into the light and then darkness. This causes
Briony to fade, emphasising the idea of how one s sight can affect your perceptions.
These events are critical, as Briony s incorrect perception of occasions is the catalyst
for the whole film and the consequences that are to come. Additionally, light is used
when Briony goes to Paul Marshall the man who assaulted Lola and Lola s wedding.
Briony gazes upwards as light falls upon her from above, implying a sudden
comprehension of her understanding of who assaulted Lola. Here, light depicts the
understanding of the truth. Throughout the film, light is used to illustrate various
ideas, and it tells its own particular story underneath the action of the main
Comparing Vector Quantization and Wavelet Coefficients
Essays
Wavelet transform is efficient tool for image compression,
Wavelet transform gives multiresolution image decomposition. which can .be
exploited through vector quantization to achieve high compression ratio. For vector
quantization of wavelet coefficients vectors are formed by either coefficients at same
level, different location or different level, same location.
This paper compares the two methods and shows that because of wavelet properties,
vector quantization can still improve compression results by coding only important
vectors for reconstruction. Thus giving priority to the important vectors higher
compression can be achieved at better quality. The algorithm is also useful for

dependency and improves compression.
If we take into consideration HVS response, all the coefficients are not important for
image representation. This visual redundancy can be removed to improve the
compression ratio further [5]. Edges in the image are more imponant for good quality

Wavelet decomposition represents edges in horizontal vertical and diagonal
direction. If we code only the coefficients representing edges, image reconstruction at
reduced rate is possible. To find edge region, variance of the adjacent coefficients can
be considered. In vector quantization if the vectors are formed with adjacent
coefficients from the same band at same
Location, variance of the vectors represent edge region.
Quality of the reconstructed image by coding only high variance vectors is much
better than interband vector quantiation. Codebook is generated including high
variance vectors from training images. This results into close match for important
vectors and improves quality [6].

Iced Tea Collision Theory
(1) Southerners love sweet tea. In the north they make tea unsweetened and allow
the customers to either add sugar or sweetener. Have you ever tried to dissolve sugar
in iced tea? It is difficult! Explain this in terms of kinetics.
Iced tea is generally cold, meaning it has a low temperature. Since it has a low
temperature, the molecules of the iced tea have a low kinetic energy, slowing down
the molecules and also having a lower amount of energy per collision than having a
higher amount of kinetic energy. This is why when using the Collision Theory, as the
temperature decreases the collision frequency and fraction of effective collisions also
decreases. The reaction for the sugar to dissolve is a physical change since it requires
the breakage ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
When experiencing this condition, since the body is low in temperature, there is
low kinetic energy in the molecules. Using the Collision Theory, this lowers the
frequency of collisions since the molecules are moving slower; being less likely
they will collide with each other. This also affects the fraction of effective
collisions because at low temperatures, since the molecules have a lower amount of
kinetic energy, they collide with each other with less energy; making the collision
less affective because there is a less chance of reaching the activation energy
needed to initiate a reaction. Both of these factors influence the body drastically
because the body has essential reactions that take place for humans to survive. For
example, aerobic respiration with the chemical equation of C6H12O6 + 6O2
6CO2 + 6H2O + 36 ATP. This specific reaction is crucial for the body to harness
energy and live; if the frequency of collisions and the fraction of effective collisions
decrease, the products of this reaction will significantly be reduced, may leading to

Positive Behavior Intervention And Support System
The well research Positive Behavior Intervention and Support system has been
widely implemented throughout the United States because school feel it is a great
alternative to the zero tolerance. Much of PBIS has been implemented in elementary
schools and it has shown the younger children react more positively to the system. In
fact, Bradshaw estimated there is about 22,000 schools who have taken in this policy
(Bradshaw, et al.). This is a large amount of schoolin the United State who have

Resultantly, it seems to be a common theme throughout the school who have carried

Reflection On Calcium
I have learned from the computer analysis project that my intake in calcium is low,
and my intake in sodium is high. My DRI reports showed me that I am receiving
only 31% of the recommended daily value for calcium intake. An appropriate
amount of calcium is 1300 mg, but I consumed only 409 mg. My DRI reports also
showed me that I consumed above the recommended range for sodium. A deficiency
of calcium has serious effects just as a toxicity of sodium does. After reviewing my
reports, I learned that I need to change my diet and be more cautious about the
amounts of calcium and sodium that I consume.
In nutrition class, I learned that calcium is a mineral that an individual needs in
order to maintain healthy bones. If an individual does not consume enough
calcium than he or she is will be at risk of osteoporosis. Osteoporosis is a lack of
calcium in bones which is a loss of total bone mass, not just minerals. Bones
become weak and very brittle. This leads to fractures of the weight bearing bones,
such as those in the hips and spines. To prevent osteoporosis, I need to consume the
daily recommended value of calcium. Calcium is primarily found in dairy products
such as cheese and milk. Throughout September 30th to October 2nd, I did not
consume enough dairy products. Out of the 1300mg recommended value for calcium,
I only consumed 409 mg. I ate American processed cheese, scrambled eggs and
mashed potato which were prepared with milk, but that was not enough to meet the
Explain How The Wife Of Bath s Relationship In The...
Relationships between characters are essential to all types of literature, because they
further the larger purpose for the piece of literature. The Canterbury Tales is a
collection of wonderfully written, world renowned twenty four stories that runs to
over seventeen thousand lines written in Middle English by Geoffrey Chaucer. In
1386, Geoffrey Chaucer became Controller of Customs and Justice of Peace and
then three short years later in 1389, Chaucer became the Clerk of the King s work. It
was during these early years that Chaucer began working on his most famous text,
The Canterbury Tales. The tales are presented as part of a story telling contest by a
group of pilgrims as they travel together on a journey from London to Canterburyin
order to visit the shrine of Saint Thomas Becket at Canterbury Cathedral. The
relationship between several characters on the way to visit the shrine, as well as the

Through the tales, several characters commit adulterous acts. In the Wife of Bath s
introduction, the first mention of anything sexual is discussed. The personality of
the Wife of Bath is presumed to be highly sexual. Her description hints at multiple
marriages and use of her femininity to get whatever she wants or desires. The Wife
of Bath openly discusses her sexual ways with the other Pilgrims, an ever used
biblical references to support her folly. Another set of characters exuding sexuality
would be Nicholas and Alison. Alison was married, but she committed the act of
adultery with Nicholas several times. Aleyn and John, another set of characters, also
commit the sinful act of adultery. The tales characters all connect to help show a
greater literary theme within The Canterbury Tales. With majority of the tales having
to do with sexual acts, sinful or not, another theme of The Canterbury Tales is indeed

Research Report On Springdale Phone Survey
Springdale Phone Survey There are surveys being taken by many corporations,
large or small, to gather information. This information is helpful in making
improvements to certain processes. In fact, the Economics and Statistics
Administration (2015) indicated that the American Community Survey (ACS) is
the largest continuous household survey in the United States, providing a wealth
of information about the economic, social, and demographic characteristics of
persons, as well as housing characteristics (para. 1). Not every survey has to regard
large scale issues or debates on a national level. For instance, the Springdale phone
survey data is regarding issues consumers may run into while shopping at local
malls. In an effort to continually improve processes such as: staffing, returns,
convenient hours, and cleanliness, store owners and city official may take a
random survey by calling folks in the community and ask for information on these
issues. Can the data really make an impact on future sales? Without collecting the
data, one would never know. Therefore, it is imperative to attempt to collect it.

Conquest Of The Americas Research Paper
The fifteenth through seventeenth century was a time of great change. Europeans
had discovered the far reaching lands of the Americas and their immense amounts of
resources. The riches of these lands lured people from many different European
countries to try and exploit the resources to become rich and powerful. Others
preferred to gain their wealth through other ways, such as conquest. The conquest of
the New World overshadows the vast amount of trade that was taking place. The
driving force behind the conquest and settlement of the Americaswas the mercantilist
trading system of the new European empires. Without the need of conquest of the

This largely involved the slave trade with the mass transportation of slaves to the
Americas to enhance production of the colonies. The transportation of the slaves
itself served as a major source of income for many of these colonial countries. An
example of one such country is Portugal. For fifty years his country [Portugal]
enjoyed a monopoly of the [slave] traffic. Many countries fought to wrestle control
of the extremely profitable slave trade so they would be able to gain a monopoly
themselves and bring in vast amounts of wealth.
Slave traders would go along the African coast and gather up as many strong and
cheap slaves as they possibly could. Eventually, they would make the journey
across the massive Atlantic Ocean. Slave ship captains that made the voyage across
the Atlantic would trade their cargo(slaves) for valuable goods like sugar, molasses
and other valuable raw materials to be used for manufacturing. These materials
would be brought back across the ocean and traded for manufactured goods. The
entire process would be repeated over and over again with traders in the triangular

Comparing Musicals In La La Land And Singing In The

Musicals are a very unique type of genre intended to give off good vibe, happiness
and joy to the audience and to anyone who watches them. Countless amount of
musicals have been created since their first introduction, but the one piece of film
that really stands out was a classic called Singing in the Rain (1952) directed by
Gene Kelly and Stanley Donen, and has been considered one of the most loved and
celebrated filmin the history of it s genre. But a lot has changed since the
introduction of this classical movie and in this present generation we have pieces
like La La Land (2016) directed by Damian Chazelle, which has won many
recognisable awards, such as Best Performance by an Actress in a Leading Role ,

One of the most noticeable features that you can see from both of these films, was
the social context of gender equality and the form of attention that this plays in the
film. In La la land, the two main characters, Mia, played by Emma Stone, and
Sebastian, played by Ryan Gosling, both of opposite sexes, share equal footing in
the role as the main characters in the film. They both share the spotlight in the
making and no character is less as minimum as the other. This, in the current day
and age, is to be expected as gender equality and identification of sexes, play a
massive role in the issues abiding people today, and is acting as a very
controversial and sensitive topic that people debate on. In response to this
controversial topic, La la land, has no sign of gender inequality which is very
interesting in it s matter. In a world where male gaze is a massive factor in the
films of the past and still in present, this film has done a very good job to tackle the
issues of today. In comparison, the classical film, SInging in the Rain, also plays a

The distinction was made from Prokaryotes Bacteria and Archaea which are
classified different to the domain of the Eukaryotes and there four kingdoms
(animals, plants, protists and fungi). The Prokaryotes meaning comes for the Greek
word meaning (pro) before and (karyon) meaning nut or kernel Most of the
prokaryotes can be seen as a unicellular organisms although the myxobacteria have
been seen in different stages in their life cycles like in colonies of cyanobacteria.

more dominant in these types of conditions. Because Archaea have an independent

this is the dirty work of the Spanish as revenge against the many American owned

concern for the safety of American citizens in Cuba and therefore requested help

Bee Species Research Paper
Bee species in the United States and around the world are being put on the
endangered species list. Bees are a very important part of our food supply and
everyday lives. Bees do more than you think, and there are several reasons to why
they are going extinct. Bees are an essential part of our food supply. Most people
think that bees only make honeyfor us to eat, but that is certainly not all they do.
Bees pollinate flowers which allows fruits and vegetables to grow. Just imagine what
our lives would be life would be like without fruits and vegetables. If the bees didn t
pollinate flowers, than grass wouldn t grow either. This means that we would not
have anything for our meat animals to eat. Without bees, we would not have honey,
fruits,
Sinaloa Cartel And Drug Trafficking
trafficking is one of the most severe cross border crimes affecting the world today.
Drug trafficking involves both the narcotic and the non narcotic substances like
marijuana. The criminalization of drugs has made the elements gain significant
values in the global market. The United States of America (U.S.A) is one of the
largest markets of global narcotic drugs and related substances. Mexico has proved to
be the most significant distribution channel and a significant source of drugs and
associated materials. Mexico is the home of the most dangerous cartels or drug
trafficking organizations specialized in the trade. The consequences of drug
trafficking are the reasons for the increased global campaign against the products. The

Boston is made up of a variety of people of different ethnic groups, economic classes
and ages. In 2012 the population of Boston was made up of about 636,479 residents
with 22% being age 19 and under, 14% from 20 to 24, 33% from 25 to 44, 20% from
45 to 64, and 10% who were 65 years of age or older. Also, for every 100 females,
there were 92.0 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 89.9 males.
Over the last several decades, the racial and ethnic composition of Boston has
changed greatly. MA has the 7th largest immigrant population with a total of

that are unemployed, fewer females than males and a greater number of unemployed
young workers than there are employed.
According to the Census ACS 1 year survey conducted in 2011, the median income
per household in Boston is $71,738. This is a 1.17% increase from the previous

the median Massachusetts household income which was $65,339 and $20,367
greater than the US median household income which was $51,371. Even though the

Benefits Of A Zombie Apocalypse
In many cases, there comes the need of science, math, and geography. These
subjects are used to prepare kids for their future, but not only is needed for that
there are a lot of things you could benefit from them. But in this case i ll be talking
how could you benefit from them in a zombie apocalypse. For example, science is
needed to create an anti virus. Or to investigate the zombievirus better. Also you
could make some awesome diys to make fuel for the truck you are driving, like i
heard that you could make fuel by using poop or something but it only works with
certain trucks not all of them. Anyways geography can be useful for planning an
escape route, like if the zombiesare invading your house. How are you going to escape
Cause And Effect Essay On Chilean Earthquake
1 Introduction:
A natural hazard is an extreme event that occurs naturally and causes harm to humans
or other things we care about, while a Geomorphic hazard is that originating from the
lithosphere including, volcanic eruption, earthquake and tsunamis. An earthquake is
a sudden violent shaking of the ground, typically showing great destruction. This
report will focus on the Great Chilean earthquake. I will report and examine the
causes, details, effects including, social, environmental and economical. I will also
examine what has been done to prepare, prevent and minimise the hazard and suggest
ways to further minimise the effects of this hazard.

Genocide Protest
Tamil Genocide Protest in Toronto
Greater Toronto Area is home to about 200,000 tamils, so there was no doubt that
they wanted the canadian government to take action. Though the war between the Sri
Lankan Government and The Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam, (a terrorist group
who wanted a separate nation) lasted 25 for years. The final stage of war is what
erupted the international protest, among many immigrated tamils. This is because the
war went out of limits, and innocent citizen began to die as they were being used as
human shields. The government and LTTE also put journalist restrictions, which
isolated innocent tamils. The United Nations Humanitarian Organization believes

The Tamil Canadians aimed to be heard by the president of The United States, Barack
Obama, Prime minister of Canada at the time, Stephen Harper, and lastly the
consulate general of Sri Lanka, Bandula Jayasekera. The first notable protest began
on January 30th 2009, it was a 5 km human chain that lined up along key streets in
Toronto. Citizen held signs that signified the injustice going on such as respect
tamil sovereignty , stop the genocide , Canada aids pay for genocide and much
more. Unfortunately, reports claim that the consulate general Bandula referred the
protesters as terrorist and did not permit entrance. The University of Toronto, and
Ryerson s, Tamil student association groups also raised awareness on campus,
through poster, hunger strikes, speeches, and staged demonstrations. Another
major protest occurred at Parliament Hill in Ottawa on February 4th 2009. This
protest caught the eyes of some politicians. Including, Jack Layton (former leader
of NDP) who said he would call a meeting at the house of commons to discuss the
issues. Also Bev Oda (former MP) stated that the government would provide
financial aid to the affected civilians, with the help of World Vision and
MГ©decins Sans FrontiГЁres. Two months later the protest began on April 6th
which was non stop and lasted for 15 days. The ottawa protest came to an end
because the of high policing cost, which was estimated to be around 800,000. Two
other notable protest are the Gardiner expressway blockade and the Queen s Park
An Essay on Otherness
Nohemi Perea Task2/LCT1 8/01/2012 An individual labeled as the Other is
different and does not fit in. The Other is perceived as lacking essential
characteristics possessed by the group, the Other is almost always seen as lesser or
inferior being and is treated accordingly (The Other, 2009). A group sets guidelines
and if a person does not meet them they will not be accepted as normal . Otherness to
a group represents awkwardness. Although each person does have its own unique
characteristics to prevent from being labeled as the Otheryou must possess common
characteristics within a group. I read This Is What It Means To Say Phoenix, Arizona

Reservation... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Even though Thomas helped Victor in many ways Thomas is aware they cannot be
friends after coming back from Arizona. After their journey Thomas does not expect
anything in return. Thomas tells Victor, I know you ain t going to treat me any
better than you did before (Alexie,1994). I know your friends would give you too
much shit about it (Alexie,1994). It is also apparent that the author realizes it is not
nice to treat people as Others but we still do. Even though Victor
seems to appreciate all the things Thomas has done for him it is not easy to accept
him as a friend.
How would I deal with otherness? Each year teacher s get a new set of students
these students all bring diversity into the classroom. Unfortunately, not all diversity is
welcomed. As a teacher I will make it a priority to notice, identify and assist a student
who is experiencing otherness. I will need to pay attention to my students
individually. This will enable me to notice any inferiority if any amongst them. One
thing I can absorb is their eye contact. If they tend to turn away or always have their
head down I know I have identified one who is experiencing otherness. I cannot
assume they are experiencing otherness. It is my responsibility to make my students
feel comfortable. This will make a line of communication between them and me.
When I am positive a student is experiencing otherness then I will go into
Behavioral Intervention Strategies For Alcohol Abuse
Behavioral Intervention Strategies for Alcohol Abuse
Andrew J. Leonard
Midland University
There is no doubt that college campuses are filled with alcohol and parties. Many
students engage in alcohol consumption and some also use drugs. Although alcohol
use is widely accepted in the college student population there are intervention plans
attempting to limit alcohol consumption to protect students from the negative
consequences associated with alcohol abuse. This is a compilation of a few different
behavioral intervention strategies for reducing alcohol consumption in college age
students. According to Dr. Amaro of the Institute on Urban Research at Northeastern
University in Boston, Massachusetts and Reed, Rowe, Picci, Mantella, and Prado,
(2010), implementation of the Brief Alcohol Screening and Intervention for College
Students (BASICS) can be linked to safer drinking practices among college students
(2010). Two of the articles used for this research are about brief intervention
strategies for college students. There was an interesting theory based intervention
strategy, whose goal was to reduce pre drinking (Caudwell, Mullan, Hagger, 2016).
Pre drinking is the act of drinking before going to the planned event for the night.
Electronic interventions were also a mentioned method. One case study utilized an
alternative counseling protocol with a combination of a brief intervention strategy as
well. Self monitoring interventions are a useful way to
Dynamic Characters In S. E. Hinton s The Outsiders
Characters in a book can either be dynamic or static, static characters mainly
remains consistent with their predominant personality. Susan Eloise Hinton was
fifteen years old when she wrote The Outsiders, a novel about youth. S. E. Hinton
portrays two groups (Socs and Greasers) that always have conflict against each
other, having some kind of an endless fight. Sherri Valance counts as a Soc by the
community, because she is wealthy and lives in the west side of town in big
houses. These two groups are stereotyped by each other. Sherri is her real name;
however, she is called Cherry because the color of her hair represents that of a
Cherry. Sherri Cherry Valance, as a static character, remains as an independent
woman with principle, as shown at the drive in theatre, her spying on the Socs for

knowing the fact that Cherry the Soc is betraying her own kind . Socs are
supposed to be rivals with Greasers. To summarize, Cherry helped Greasers to
defeat Socs at the rumble that was going to happen. All this proves how even
though Cherry was seen as a Soc, personally she does not feel and want to be a
Soc. Cherry does not want a social division altogether, the Socs and Greasers. She
believes everyone is equal and the stereotyped label Socs and Greasers are
unnecessary because everyone sees the same sunset in the same sky from any side
of town (Hinton 40). As a result, Cherry has her own standpoint where Socs and
Greasers do not exist, making her independent which leads her to not pick a

In 2012, one third of adolescents were either overweight or obese and 18% of 6 11
year olds were obese; that is a staggering statistic (CDC). This can cause life long
problems for these children. In this essay, I will show you that unhealthy food
choices, lack of parental guidance, and a sedentary lifestyle are some of the leading
causes of obesity in our children. For instance, these days with most parents
having to work outside the home, there is not much time spent cooking healthy
meals. Most children come home to an empty house and many do not know how
to cook, so unless there is something prepared for them ahead of time, they head
straight for the junk food. Plus, with all the inexpensive convenience foods that
are on the shelves these days it makes it too easy for one to whip up a family meal
or snack in just minutes in the microwave. The problem with these convenience
foods is that they are usually high in fat, sugar, and calories (Sorte, Daeschel,
Amador 5). Not only are convenience foods bad for you, but also too are the so called
fast foods. If you go to any local fast food restaurant and order one cheeseburger
meal with fries and a soda, you have literally eaten your whole days calories in one
meal and two days worth of fat. For instance a Whopper Value Meal contains: 1430
calories, 65 grams of fat, 1930 mg. sodium, 85 mg. cholesterol, 89 grams sugar, 0
vitamins, 0 calcium and 0 iron. (Calories in Burger King Whopper Value Meal (With

America s involvement in World War I. Before it happened, Germany is becoming
more and more powerful especially technology wise. One of which surprised the
British was Germans maximization of the U Boot since Great Britain is the
strongest naval power in all of Europe. In response to this, they would use water
mines in the English channel to defend against the Germans. This triggered the
Germans to be very aggressive and suspicious. The Germans are suspicious of the
United States and Great Britain has weapons on that ship. They would give 3 days
of warning to both U.S. and British to turn those weapons in or they will see as
enemy threat and therefore blow up the ship. In the first day, U.S. and Britain refuse
to say they have any weapons on the ship. And in the 2nd and final day of the
warning, United States and Britain decided to stand pact and thinking this is just a

  • 2. Essay on Grapes Of Wrath The Grapes of Wrath nbsp; nbsp; nbsp; nbsp; nbsp;John Steinbeck wrote The Grapes of Wrath, a remarkable novel that greatly embodied the entire uprisal of the Great Depression and the Dust Bowl in the 1930 s. The usage of imagery and symbolism help to support his many different themes running through the course of the novel. His use of language assisted in personifying the many trials and tribulations which the Joad family, and the rest of the United States, was feeling at the time. This was a time of great confusion and chaos because no one really knew what the other was going through, they were all just trying to hold their own. To display the many sides of the depression Steinbeck developed the use of intercallorie chapters, and he... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... He also used animal imagery throughout the novel. The most prominent description of these animals was the highly symbolic land turtle. The back legs went to work, straining like elephant legs, and the shell tipped to an angle so that the front legs could not reach the level cement plain (20). The old humorous eyes looked ahead, and the horny beak opened a little. His yellow toe nails slipped a fraction in the dust (21). This sort of description gives the reader an impression of struggling effort with a lack of results, which was part of the hardship the people in the Dust Bowl were experiencing. Steinbeck used the descriptions of the characters themselves to create images, typically giving the people animal qualities. Joad s lips stretched tight over his long teeth for a moment, and he licked his lips like a dog, one in each direction from the middle (16). Also, he used imagery to portray the people of the time, and the weariness of their life and emotions: Lines of weariness around the eyes, lines of discontentment down from the mouth, breasts lying heavily in little hammocks...the mouths panting, the eyes sullen, disliking sun and wind and earth, resenting food and weariness, hating time that rarely makes them beautiful and always makes them old.(199) Steinbeck s usage of
  • 3. How People Give Up Rights When Using an Airline Many people modern day use airlines as a form of transportation. To be able to use this service passengers must have their bags and personal belongings checked by the airline. Airlines do this for the safety of their passengers and to ensure that no catastrophe happens during flight. But when this is done are passengers giving up their rights? Is it right for someone to go through your personal belongings? Or is this procedure only for security reasons? What rights do airplane passengers give up by allowing themselves to be checked before boarding? When Someone travels with an airline they must have their baggage checked before boarding the plane. Some people feel that this invades their privacy and that it is not necessary. Why... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... 3. The owner of the firearm must be at the screening or the item and provide the combination or key to open the secure container containing the firearm. 4.ant and all ammunition must be placed in fiber or packaging specifically designed to hold ammunition. And 5. The ammunition must be in the same container as the unloaded firearm. As long as when traveling with a firearm you follow all of these procedures you can legally bring a gun with you while traveling with an airline. Once again these rules might restrict your rights as an American citizen but they do NOT take away your rights as an American citizen. And there is also rules with sharp objects such as knives. The only rule that there is on these items is,1. It can not be in carry on luggage and it must be securely wrapped to prevent injury. So once again it is one hundred percent legal to bring a weapon with you while flying with an airline service. Also if someone fells that having their baggage checked is taking away their rights that is also not true. The FAA (a government run organization) enforces these rules and regulations for the airline passengers safety and for no other reason except for the passenger s safety. Also by having these rules enforced by the government they can not possibly eliminate your rights as an American citizen (although they might restrict them temporarily). And concerning the rule for having baggage checked, it is up to the airlines to charge
  • 4. Nurturing Donor Analysis Nurturing Donors Organizations must view their potential donors as people instead of a potential donation. Organizations must effectively and efficiently collect and organize data about each potential donor in order to tailor strategies and techniques that encourage and persuade the individual to support their cause (Weinstein, 2013, p. 110). Organizations must listen carefully to the desires of the potential donor and use this information to create an appeal for support. Once this information is collected it should be documented using fundraising software or an Excel spreadsheet (Weinstein, 2013, p. 73). Although data collection and organizational systems are great, they are useless if the organization does not use the information to request support from unique donors (Weinstein, 2013, p. 111). Rockford Lutheran should ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Rockford Lutheran must identify prosperous individuals who have a personal relationship with someone connected to the athletic department (Weinstein, 2013, p. 97). Building a relationship with these individuals is important because they have the potential to make a substantial donation. It is important the person that has a previous relationship with the potential donor is the one that seeks their support (Weinstein 2013, p. 105). It is important that the request for support is done in person and that the solicitor is well prepared with a personalized case statement (Weinstein, 2013, p. 66). The athletic director should also invite a wealthy donor or potential donor out to lunch. This informal lunch is also a great way to build a relationship that can last for years to come (Weinstein, 2013, p.

  • 6. The Issue Of Animal Testing In Regent Street in London s West End, a performance was staged in a Lush cosmetics store window. In a revolutionary step towards the elimination of animal testing, artist and activist Jacqueline Traide collaborated with Lush to present a disturbing display of the potential circumstances of animal testing. Traide was dragged across the floor, had her mouth stretched open with hooks, was force fed, had scientists give her injections, had her hair shaved off, and had products tested on her skin and in her eyes all to create a harsh display for potential people passing by. This unsettling exhibit of something akin to torture was Lush s attempt to covey to their emphasis of cruelty free products and push for people to sign the petition... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... She defamiliarizes the usual photos of miserable and damaged animals by placing herself as the subject of animal testing. By creating a spectacle of herself, she draws curiosity to viewers through her unconventional manner of depicting animal testing. The viewer can only retreat to shock at realizing that an actual person was suffering and struggling in response to the action of animal testing. Although Sontag argues that avoiding the spectacle makes the purpose of the photo/exhibit more effective, this may only apply to that of familiar exposure, such as war photos. The scenes portrayed in the store window of Lush show novel forms of distress and torture. As Sontag point out, the suffering presented in war photos produce more of a voyeuristic approach rather than a push for change. Sontag states, Perhaps the only people with the right to look at images of suffering of this extreme order are those who could do something to alleviate it or those who could learn from it. The rest of us are voyeurs, whether we like it or not (Sontag, 89). In Lush s campaign, the audience definitely has an opportunity to remodel the system of cosmetics testing; they have the right to witness Traide s discomfort since they can possibly evoke change especially since Traide has precisely prepared the audience for it. Traide s performance produces more of a discomfort rather than voyeurism leaving people with

Herodotus Greek God T he concept of Satan as an evil presence in our modern day definition exists as mainly a made up superstition; however, for the ancients this evil spiritual force persisted as a tangible and intangible influence. Justifiably, due to their fear untold satanic ruins and other relics were destroyed as a means of purification; whereupon, the visible reality of Satanas an authentic supernatural presence abides extremely diluted. Feasible, the factual existence of Satan s ancient evil surfaced more factual than a vast number of people would presume. • 8. Forecasting By Vector Autoregression Models CHAPTER NINE FORECASTING BY VECTOR AUTOREGRESSION MODELS 9.1 Vector Autoregressive (VAR) Models Vector Autoregression (VAR) models were introduced by the macro econometrician Christopher Sims (1980) to model the joint dynamics and causal relations among a set of macroeconomic variables. The vector autoregression (VAR) is commonly used for forecasting systems of interrelated time series and for analyzing the dynamic impact of random disturbances on the system of variables. The VAR approach sidesteps the need for structural modeling by treating every endogenous variable in the system as a function of the lagged values of all of the endogenous variables in the system. The vector autoregression (VAR) model is one of the most successful, flexible, and easy to use models for the analysis of multivariate time series. It is a natural extension of the univariate autoregressive model to dynamic multivariate time series. The VAR model has proven to be especially useful for describing the dynamic behavior of economic and financial time series and for forecasting. It often provides superior forecasts to those from univariate time series models and elaborate theory based simultaneous equations models. Forecasts from VAR models are quite flexible because they can be made conditional on the potential future paths of specified variables in the model. In addition to data description and forecasting, the VAR model is also used for structural inference and policy analysis. In structural

Since we are the expert of our own lives, how we experience and interpret time solely depends on us. That is to say, not everyone on the planet sees the idea of time in the same way. I know that as there are distinctive objective scales of physical time, there are diverse cultural scales of subjective time. However, what is very common in every culture is that we tend to see time in line that is we call things of yesterday or years ago things of the past and things of tomorrow things in the future. This short story talks about a book that is also called The Garden of Forking Paths. Yu Tsun meets a man called Dr, Stephen Albert who showed him a letter written by his grandfather, Tu si pen. Before this encounter, Yu Tsun reflects early in the story, everything happens to a man precisely now. Century follows century, and things happen only in the present (64). With this, Yu Tsun portrays time in a linear manner. That is, people experience time as an issue of present minutes, one after the other. When the minute is experienced, on the other hand, it no longer exists. Because of this, the past is no more genuine than the future. Both exist no place but in the human mind: the past fits in with the domain of memory, while the future has a place with the domain of imagination. Nevertheless, when Yu Tsun arrives at Dr. Stephen Albert s home, the notion of time as linear is challenged. Albert explained to Yu Tsun that Ts ui Pen his ancestor did not believe in a uniform, absolute time. He believed in an infinite series of times, in a growing, dizzying net of divergent, convergent, and parallel times (69) .In this development of time, all presents, pasts, and future exist at the same time. Further, every choice an individual makes prompts diverse future. Tu si Pen made a decision that led to several futures, and here is what he did; In all fiction, when a man is faced with diverse alternatives, he picks one and eliminates the others, but, Ts ui Pen,

The reason for this break away of the railway workers to form the workers union was because they believed that the civil service union was too soft spoken on fundamental issues and more so, the civil service union was not responsive to the economic dictates of the period. More so because the new unions were made up of skilled workers or artisans in various trade, they were placed on a strategic position and so a strike by them could paralyse the economy. • 13. The Dairy Farmer, The Perception That The Public Has... Introduction For the modern dairy farmer, the perception that the public has regarding the industry has a significant impact on their overall wellbeing as a company. However, most people in modern society have little personal experience with farming, and their opinions are often based on second hand information (Boogaard et al. 2010). In general people are more concerned with the welfare of the animals and want them to be able to display natural behaviours like grazing on pasture for most of the day (Cardoso et al. 2016). This however, can prove very problematic for dairy producers as it results in lower control over feed intake and body condition score of the cows. Body Condition Score (BCS) is a management tool used to assess body fat stores in dairy cows (Ferguson et al. 1994). It has been correlated with overall reproduction, health and productivity of dairy cows at it is considered one of the most practical methods of assessing changes in energy stores (Berry et al. 2007; Bewley et al. 2008). However, due to its subjectivity and time consumption it is not a widely used management tool in the industry. There are many studies that try to use technology as a way of making an automatic system for BCS. This paper aims to identify the perspectives on the BCS from the public and the producer, benefits of using an automated BCS and current technologies available. Public Perception of the Industry The last five decades have proven a significant change to the agriculture

Fisher explains that when the equilibrium between these two factors exists, the interest rate is thus determined. This theory of interest is still how we determine interest, even after about 100 years have passed since its introduction. Clearly this theory was well ahead of its time. In addition, Fisher stated that the real rate of interest generated by the interaction between the impatient rate and opportunity rate was not always the nominal rate due to inflation. He stated that the nominal rate minus the inflation rate equals the real rate that you are expected to earn. This relationship is known as the Fisher Effect and is a major principle in economics and finance in everyday calculations. From these same works Fisher also developed the concept of the expenditure tax. The expenditure tax is different from the income tax because one is only taxed on income minus one s net savings, rather than one s whole income. Fisher believed the income tax induced bias against saving and created double taxation on both the income you earned initially and the income you earn from investing or saving money.Irving Fisher also made major contributions in to monetary economics. He expanded the old quantity theory of money by introducing the equation of exchange (MV = PT) in The Purchasing Power

The Importance Of Dramatic Play In The Classroom The first chapter discussed the importance of dramatic play in the classroom and how it develops creativity and imagination through providing children with the freedom to express themselves how they deem fit. Dramatic play is a critical aspect that must be incorporated into curriculum because it is the student s way to understand and deal with the world. As students begin to develop they will model behaviors in which they observe. An example of this would be, students are provided with a doctorcart in the housekeeping center with various tools and outfits that may be found in a doctor office. Students that may have anxieties about the doctor, may be able to work them out by giving their friends or stuffed animals shots or practice taking temperatures. Additionally, dramatic play is an important part of students with special needs lives because it encourages socialization with peers and allows the children to take the lead and develop their own ideas to play. I have seen my students with IEP s and my two ELL students, fully engage in dramatic play with their peers building their socialization and cooperationskills. In comparison, it is important to reflect on activities done in the classroom and extend the skills to introduce new ones. An example of this would be, all week my cooperating teacher read books about Halloween and about fall. Later in the week she introduced trick or treating baskets with fake candy to the children and explained how these items would be placed in the housekeeping center. Recently I have also seen a stuffed turkey make its way into this center for Thanksgiving. As the seasons and holidays change, my cooperating teacher is adding more props to extend the students play. Through reading I also learned that children s imagination will turn everyday items into new materials. Immediately I thought of how the students in my practicum class take the chairs around the kitchen tables and create a cage around the corner of the center for the dog. The chairs act as a gate, similar to a kennel the children would put their dog in at home. However, I read that it is appropriate for children in the housekeeping center to move about the entire space, not just confining to one area because that

Major Mark Davis conducted extensive interviews on this topic with air, ground, and special operations commanders, staff officers, and other forces that participated in Operation Anaconda. In his research, Davis found some major problems had occurred that caused a failure in coordination efforts. The first error Davis sighted was that the DOD failed to establish proper command structures and relationships needed for integration among the systems (MacPherson 2005, p. 350). This made it difficult for air and ground forces to communicate among each other when the battle was underway. Davis also sites that U.S. Central Command Chief Franks, made a costly decision to command the war from his office in Tampa, Florida. He was 7,000 miles and 10 time zones away from the battle front. Chief Franks believed that rather than move himself and his unit, would speed up the operating progress and not slow down the mission. Franks and his command relied on video phone conferences instead of personal communications, which led to limited communications. Another problem was that Franks gave lists of plans to be carried out rather than one battle plan. Also, because of the large numbers of independent units that participated, it was impossible for Franks to maintain communication presence and coordinate over this large command structure. This ultimately left decision making in the hands of CENTCOM staff

As a result, this leads to the arrest of Robbie, as Briony believes that what she saw was he assaulting both her sister and cousin Lola. This incident leads to the concept of perception in which lighting is utilised in a clever way to illustrate this. When Briony encounters Cecilia and Robbie in the library, the light shone on half her face contrasts against the face shadowed on the other half. This is symbolic to her perception of the situation, as she is only observing a portion of what has happened. As Briony is only aware of half of the complete situation, this causes her to misjudge the event. Similarly, when she discovers Lola being assaulted, light is utilised through her torch when she discovers Lola, the torch blinds her momentarily, throwing her into the light and then darkness. This causes Briony to fade, emphasising the idea of how one s sight can affect your perceptions. These events are critical, as Briony s incorrect perception of occasions is the catalyst for the whole film and the consequences that are to come. Additionally, light is used when Briony goes to Paul Marshall the man who assaulted Lola and Lola s wedding. Briony gazes upwards as light falls upon her from above, implying a sudden comprehension of her understanding of who assaulted Lola. Here, light depicts the understanding of the truth. Throughout the film, light is used to illustrate various ideas, and it tells its own particular story underneath the action of the main

  • 29. Iced Tea Collision Theory (1) Southerners love sweet tea. In the north they make tea unsweetened and allow the customers to either add sugar or sweetener. Have you ever tried to dissolve sugar in iced tea? It is difficult! Explain this in terms of kinetics. Iced tea is generally cold, meaning it has a low temperature. Since it has a low temperature, the molecules of the iced tea have a low kinetic energy, slowing down the molecules and also having a lower amount of energy per collision than having a higher amount of kinetic energy. This is why when using the Collision Theory, as the temperature decreases the collision frequency and fraction of effective collisions also decreases. The reaction for the sugar to dissolve is a physical change since it requires the breakage ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... When experiencing this condition, since the body is low in temperature, there is low kinetic energy in the molecules. Using the Collision Theory, this lowers the frequency of collisions since the molecules are moving slower; being less likely they will collide with each other. This also affects the fraction of effective collisions because at low temperatures, since the molecules have a lower amount of kinetic energy, they collide with each other with less energy; making the collision less affective because there is a less chance of reaching the activation energy needed to initiate a reaction. Both of these factors influence the body drastically because the body has essential reactions that take place for humans to survive. For example, aerobic respiration with the chemical equation of C6H12O6 + 6O2 6CO2 + 6H2O + 36 ATP. This specific reaction is crucial for the body to harness energy and live; if the frequency of collisions and the fraction of effective collisions decrease, the products of this reaction will significantly be reduced, may leading to critical

My DRI reports showed me that I am receiving only 31% of the recommended daily value for calcium intake. An appropriate amount of calcium is 1300 mg, but I consumed only 409 mg. My DRI reports also showed me that I consumed above the recommended range for sodium. A deficiency of calcium has serious effects just as a toxicity of sodium does. After reviewing my reports, I learned that I need to change my diet and be more cautious about the amounts of calcium and sodium that I consume. In nutrition class, I learned that calcium is a mineral that an individual needs in order to maintain healthy bones. If an individual does not consume enough calcium than he or she is will be at risk of osteoporosis. Osteoporosis is a lack of calcium in bones which is a loss of total bone mass, not just minerals. Bones become weak and very brittle. This leads to fractures of the weight bearing bones, such as those in the hips and spines. Sherri is her real name; however, she is called Cherry because the color of her hair represents that of a Cherry. Sherri Cherry Valance, as a static character, remains as an independent woman with principle, as shown at the drive in theatre, her spying on the Socs for Greasers, and her conversation with Ponyboy before the rumble.... To summarize, Cherry helped Greasers to defeat Socs at the rumble that was going to happen. All this proves how even though Cherry was seen as a Soc, personally she does not feel and want to be a Soc. Cherry does not want a social division altogether, the Socs and Greasers. She believes everyone is equal and the stereotyped label Socs and Greasers are unnecessary because everyone sees the same sunset in the same sky from any side of town (Hinton 40). In 2012, one third of adolescents were either overweight or obese and 18% of 6 11 year olds were obese; that is a staggering statistic (CDC). This can cause life long problems for these children. In this essay, I will show you that unhealthy food choices, lack of parental guidance, and a sedentary lifestyle are some of the leading causes of obesity in our children. For instance, these days with most parents having to work outside the home, there is not much time spent cooking healthy meals. Most children come home to an empty house and many do not know how to cook, so unless there is something prepared for them ahead of time, they head straight for the junk food. Plus, with all the inexpensive convenience foods that are on the shelves these days it makes it too easy for one to whip up a family meal or snack in just minutes in the microwave. Not only are convenience foods bad for you, but also too are the so called fast foods. If you go to any local fast food restaurant and order one cheeseburger meal with fries and a soda, you have literally eaten your whole days calories in one meal and two days worth of fat. For instance a Whopper Value Meal contains: 1430 calories, 65 grams of fat, 1930 mg. sodium, 85 mg. cholesterol, 89 grams sugar, 0 vitamins, 0 calcium and 0 iron.
