Throughout many different mediums such as literature and music there have been
many controversial pieces written in regards to the true meaning and purpose of
authorship. Several French philosophers such as Roland Barthes and Michel Foucault
have written essays on the purpose of authorship. Roland Barthes, writer of The
Death of the Author , has a strong belief in the removal of the author from a piece.
Barthes believed that once a book has been written there is no more author but instead
a scriptor and text which are both born simultaneously. Meaning that the text is a
living tissue for the scriptor(reader) to interpret for themselves, leaving a text with
multiple meanings dependent on a scriptors interpretation. On the other hand, French
philosopher, Michel Foucaultbelieved that the author is a key aspect to a written
work. He believed that without an author a work would have no true meaning in
essence leaving everything up for debate which ultimately results in confusion.
Foucault also believed that removing the author from a text serves no purpose and
as such, should not be done. Similarly, an author is a very important aspect in
music as well because musicians are able to bridge gaps between them and their
listeners through lyricism. Artists are able to do this by incorporating narratives in
their music allowing them to narrate their lives which may include hardships and
difficulties that they have gone through, which allows for connections to be made
between the author and a listener who has gone through the same experiences. For
example, artists such as 21 Savage speak about gang violence and poverty in their
music which allows them to shed light on such issues in order to raise public

It was the way Thelma approach therapy all this years what had made it so hard for

subliminal messages still affect us, sometimes without us even noticing. Society has
normalized so many of these ideas that they are not seen as offensive, although they
should be. If we take more than a few seconds to look and snicker, we can truly
comprehend the issues we have been ignoring. Advertisers will go to almost any
length to convince consumers that their product is the best, something that is
necessary. Targeted advertisement is used to appeal to a certain group of consumers.
One of the most common and recognizable examples is the use of femalesexuality to
sell products aimed at men. Even products that aren t specifically maleoriented seem

Analysis Of Nelson Goodman s New Riddle Of Induction
Throughout this paper, I will simplify and explain Nelson Goodman s take with
the problem of induction. Nevertheless, a concept known as PUN, if proven true,
has been asserted by many philosophers to be the answer to such problem.
However, this is where I will introduce and clarify upon Goodman s New Riddle of
Induction and its claim that PUN by itself is not enough to act as a solution for
this case. For starters, the problem is not that we know for sure that something is
going to happen, that is the case for deductive arguments. Instead, the problem in
simple terms is that it is not justifiable like that of deductive arguments. What I
mean by this is, in deduction, if the premises are true then the conclusion must be
true, yet the same cannot be said for induction because it relies on predicting what
is going to happen based on the premises. However, we have to acknowledge this
for what it is, and instead come up with a way that proves that the premises in
induction add support to the conclusion. The problem is how exactly is that
possible if nowhere does it say what happens in the past will happen again in the
future. Which now brings us to PUN or the Principle of Uniformity of Nature that
exactly states that instances in the future are going to look like instances in the
past. Voila! Since PUN offers a state of uniformity in the world, it works as the link
that is necessary for us to make predictions about the future based solely upon what
happen in the past. For example, if all observed emeralds are green, according to
PUN, I can say that all unobserved emeralds will be green also. Although this may
possibly be true, according to Goodman, it simply is not enough to solve the
problem as there is a New Riddle of Induction. Moreover, Goodman s main concern
with PUN is that it is vacuously true, which essentially means that it is true no
matter how the world is. Nevertheless, in order for Goodman to refute PUN, he
focuses on a thought experiment that puts green up against a new predicate known
as grue. Now one must think as grue as a combination between green and blue, but
basically an object is grue if it is first observed before the year 2050, and green, or if
it is not observed before 2050, and blue.

The idea of paratrooping was a new idea and technology in World War Two. A
soldier would jump out of a plane and release a parachute to land behind enemy
lines. The 101st Airborne is a division of the United States Army. The 101st
Airborne was established on August 16, 1942. In World War Two, the 101st were
involved in many of the most impactful European battles. They were a necessary
resource for the war effort. The first call of duty for the division was to parachute
or jump in Normandy, France. This was known as D Day, the invasion of France.
The 101st were the first Americans to land in Nazi occupied France. Their job was
to clear the path for the United States and British who were landing in the beaches of
Normandy the next day. They took out any German reinforcements that were going to
