This document summarizes a presentation about the evolution of collaboration in architecture, engineering and construction (AEC) projects from the 1990s to today. It discusses how industry has moved from 2D documentation to 3D building information modeling (BIM). While BIM adoption is growing, especially in the US, the industry remains mostly 2D-centric. Barriers to BIM include training, costs and lack of standards. However, "BIMaaS" models shared via cloud computing may help advance the industry toward more integrated 3D collaboration.
