Within the analysis we will observe the objectives, strategies, assumptions, and
strengths and weaknesses of the company s competitors. Based on the growing global
market pertaining to motorcycles, we shall observe the external environment. Due to
the increase in the industry the company faces many competitors. Some of the
company s biggest competitors are the Japanese manufacturers, Honda, Yamaha,
Kawasaki, and Suzuki. When the Japanese manufacturers entered the industry they
became dominated by stylish designed motorcycles at a inexpensive price. Hence, due
to their management, designs, and advanced products at an affordable price, the
Japanese manufactures held an competitive advantage. They also provided diverse
products that allowed for them to gain knowledgeable use of economies of scale and
scope in manufacturing. This allowed for them to produce new models with

Critical Analysis of The Indifferent by John Donne Essay
Critical Analysis of The Indifferent by John Donne
The Indifferent by John Donne is a relatively simple love poem in comparison to
his other, more complicated works. In this poem, he presents a lover who regards
constancy as a vice and promiscuity as the path of virtue and good sense (Hunt 3).
Because of Donne s Christian background, this poem was obviously meant to be a
comical look at values that were opposite the ones held by Christians. According to
Clay Hunt, [ The Indifferent ] is probably quite an early poem because of the
simplicity and obviousness of its literary methods, its untroubled gaiety, and its pose
of libertinism, which all suggest that Donne wrote [the poem] when he was a young
man about town in ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This is first introduced in the last line of the first stanza, and continues throughout the
entire poem. The speaker desires a solely sexual relationship with his women, and he
believes that such a relationship cannot exist if they are truthful to one another.
According to Eleanor McNees, Donne realizes that erotic license is irreconcilable
with norms of truth and troth (207). Over the first stanza, the speed of the rhythm
also increases with the importance.
There is a rhythmic progression from the even, steady movement and moderate
stresses of the opening lines to the slower pace, the stronger stresses, and sharply
defined metrical pattern of her, and her, and you and you, and finally the very heavy
accents on any and true in line 9 (Hunt 5).
In the second stanza, the speaker continues upon the theme of faithfulness being a
vice, and sexual promiscuity being a virtue. The sexual tone which was suggested in
the first stanza in the anti romantic details of
spongy eyes and dry cork is intensified by the connotations of the words
know and rob me ; and the sexual pun on the word travail in the following line (Hunt
5). The speaker is trying to convince the women that he is talking to that promiscuity
is a good thing and that neither he, nor the women should be faithful to their mate.
This is evident in the lines:
Will no other vice content you? . . .
Or doth a fear that men are true, torment you?

Book Review on Chinua Achebe s No Longer at Ease
Throughout life there is chaos and calm, ups and downs, good fortune and seemingly
insurmountable challenges. For the majority of life, it is chaotic but controlled; you
deal with issues as they come, and occasionally good things happen and give your
mind a break. Obi s fortune is good for most of his life; he gets the first scholarship
from Umuofia and studies literature in England before coming home and pursuing a
job in the civil service. Eventually things settle down and he ends up stuck in the
middle. Although he has a good job that pays very well, he has debts to pay and an
unhealthy mother. His fiancГ©e is an Oso, an outcast and he cannot get the approval

Obi worked in a European Post job on the Civil Service s Scholarship Board, under
the supervision of Mr. Green. Early on, he commits himself to honesty and integrity,
rejecting a monetary bribe from the brother of a scholarship applicant and also
rejecting the applicant herself from bribing him with her body. He maintains this
mentality for as long as he can, but once things start going wrong, he has second
thoughts. He ends up with serious financial problems and has to borrow money in
order to pay his debts; Digging a new pit to fill up and old one (p.124). Because of
his financial difficulties and the sudden problems which arise with the death of his
mother and the loss of Clara, he begins questioning his ideals and has a change of
heart. During his grief he certainly has an identity crisis, and gives in to the
temptations. He begins to take bribes from people in order to pay his debts, in
contrast with his die hard honesty from earlier on. He eventually realizes that he
was doing the wrong thing and vows to stop taking bribes, but one more would be

The Theme Of Self, And Slavery In Toni Morrison s Beloved
The complex relationship between identity, which is commonly defined as the
awareness of one s characteristics and self, and slavery are explored in Toni Morrison
s novel Beloved. This novel is set in the 1870 s in Ohio and Sethe, a runaway slave
who lives in the house at 124, kills her baby daughter to free her from the horrors of
slavery. Therefore, Sethe and other characters encounter appalling and inhumane
circumstances as slaves on the Sweet Home plantation. This novel, which is narrated
through multiple points of view and incorporates several fragmented flashbacks,
includes various symbols that express an important purpose of this work as a whole.
Thus, in the novel Beloved by Toni Morrison, the symbolic use of animals, checkers,
and names stress that although the institution of slavery dehumanizes slaves, they are
still able to assert their identity.
A primary way in which Toni Morrison displays the way in which slavery
dehumanizes slaves is through the symbolic use of animals. This interpretation of
this key symbol is supported by Tuire Valkeakari. She argues that The metaphorical
connotations conveyed by the cruel, animalizing treatment of the slave body [...] are
central to Morrison s portrayal of the mental struggle between the human and animal
definition of self (Valkeakari 199). This conflict of identity is highlighted when Paul
D is bothered by the free and noble rooster that roams around Sweet Home. After
comparing his situation as a slave to this

Lord Of The Flies Worldview
There is almost nothing else that influences a person s personality and decisions
more than their worldview. A worldview, by definition, is the overall perspective
from which one sees and interprets the world; a collection of beliefs about life and
the universe held by an individual or a group ( Worldview ). Basically, a person s
idea of how reality works relies heavily on their own worldview, whether it be
objectively true or not, if there is an objective truth at all. As a person goes through
life, more often than not, their worldview changes as they come across new
experiences and people. The more the person takes in information and learns through
life, the more their worldview changes and evolves, for better or for worse. Like many

The novel s protagonist is Ralph, who becomes the chief of the group of boys
along with Jack, who leads the hunters. Each boy s personality is very different
from one another; Ralph is a typical little boy who wants the group to do what is
right, Jack is ambitious and, overtime, leads the boys into becoming savage. The
other boys include an overweight kid with poor sight and asthma whom everyone
calls Piggy, a quiet, but perceptive child named Simon, two twins named Sam and
Eric, and a boy with sociopathic tendencies named Roger. While all different, at the
start of the novel, they all acted like typical young boys: rough and rowdy, but still
innocent, just as any child. With no adults around to impose order, they are left to
their own devices. First the boys proceed to set up a pragmatic system based on a
grown up model: government, laws, shelters, plumbing facilities, and food
supplies (Tiger). As the novel goes on, however, the boys soon give in to their own
animalistic fears and instincts. Golding s Lord of the Flies tugged at private
hunches that males even small boys enjoyed aggression, group hierarchies, and the
savor of blood (Tiger). Without a society to impose rules and morality on the
children, they are left with their own urges, and innocent blood is shed as a result.
Their tale is told as an allegory for the darkness and brutality that lives inside the

about the feeder fund and how it was operating illegally. In 2001 the SEC met
Mark Markopolos, he claimed that Madoff was running a corrupt firm. The SEC
investigated him but found no evidence. In 2006 the SEC would investigate
Madoff for a ponzi scheme but again found no evidence. People were raising
concerns for years on Madoff firm but the SEC could never find evidence. Madoff
was good at hiding the ponzi scheme he was running real business to cover up the
scheme and he would never let his clients know his name. In December of 2008 the
market was doing terrible and people wanted there money back but Madoff did not
have it because he had spent it. His sons were the ones who reported him to the
authorities. If I worked for Madoff and found out about the scheme I would have
reported it to authorities. Even if I was making a lot of money I would still know

Measles Research Paper
Measles is a highly contagious disease, and it is an uncomfortable illness. It may
be a short period of time to be affected, but some things can be permanent if left
uncared for. There are many key characteristics of the illness, and the way it gets
into the body is very simple, and works well.
STRUCTURE
Measles is a highly contagious disease that has lasted for a long time throughout
history. The virus structure (in the picture above) is set up to disguise itself from the
immune system. It has a single strand of RNA, and it is a round shape. There is an
envelope around the outside of the virus, and when the virus leaves a host cell, it
takes part of the membrane to build its envelope. The viral genome is covered by a
protein called N, which is a nucleocapsid protein. The other proteins in the virus are
called L, and P, which replicate the virus and create new proteins. There are two...

Also, if someone with the Measles virus touches a surface, the virus can live on
that surface for several hours, and infects anyone else who touches it. It is a short
period of illness, lasting about 10 12 days. There is generally no lasting damage
from the illness, although in some cases, people with Measles get Pneumonia, or
encephalitis, meaning that their brain swells up. It is fairly rare for someone to
die of Measles, however, there are many complications that can come with the
Measles virus, causing death. For example, ear infections, bronchitis, miscarriages
and preterm labour, decrease in blood platelets, blindness, severe diarrhea,
pneumonia, and swelling of the brain. In some cases, there is also a risk of hearing
loss. If not properly cared for, somebody with Measles could develop one of these
complications, and there would be a risk of death. Anyone in close proximity with an
infected person is at risk of getting this

This left Eleanor in a decisive predicament. She offered to divorce him; in her heart

concerned for the well being of her children. Eleanor said, It is better to light a
single candle than to curse the darkness. In my perspective, I whole heartedly
concur with this quote because she sacrificed herself rather than to sacrifice her
family. She was willing to stay in a marriage that didn t even suit her just because
she put others before herself. Putting all of their differences aside, she still stood
by his side as a normal first lady. This represents her strong quality and character as
a powerful woman. Eleanor was admired for her idealism and good spirits. Many
individuals benefited from her warm humanitarianism and deep concern for the
world. Being that she had great work ethic and wise counsel she devoted most of
her time to charity work. In 1902 in New York City, she participated in community
service projects all over the Manhattan Lower East Side. Her passion for learning and
teaching went to a settlement home with needy children. During this time she taught
dancing, literature and calisthenics. She visited needy children in the slums and
investigated working conditions in garment factories and department stores. During
World War One, Eleanor worked for the Navy Marine Corps Relief Society and
American Red Cross. She helped aid wounded and dying soldiers. She defends
The Time Period Of The Cold War
The time period of the Cold War was a breeding ground for ideological change. It
was an era filled with fear and paranoia, not simply of the unknown, but of
neighbours, friends, and family. World War II, the atomic bomb, the Cold War, made
it hard for Americans to continue their optimism historian Stephen Ambrose
commented. This paradigm shift is evident in the texts from the era, and by studying
them we come to understand the values and atmosphere of the time and the effect
those values had on the texts. The Cold Warbegan after the end of World War II,
after the atomic bombing of Hiroshima and Nagasaki by the United States of
America; that continued until the early 90s with the dissolving of the Soviet
Union. The two sides of the Cold War were the Western Bloc and Eastern Bloc,
which are terms given to the alliances formed by the USA and NATO; and the
USSR and the Warsaw Pact respectively. Named for its lack of major conflict or
bloodshed between its two super powers, the USA and USSR, despite the wars that
occurred that those super powers supported, the Korean War and the Vietnam War.
After the bombing and subsequent end of WW II, the world was reeling from the
unprecedented destruction it caused as well as the implications and effects it would
have on not only war but society itself. During this time both a nuclear arms race and
the space race occurred.
Primarily the Cold War was a power struggle between the USA and USSR, and their
conflicting ideals of capitalism

Women play constructive, complimentary and fundamental roles in the society. The
education of woman in the formal education exposes her to available information that
could aid them in responsible behaviour for effective and efficient motherhood.
Education confers undoubted benefits on the individuals and the society especially
when it is appropriate to the goals and aspirations of the society.
Based on the above, Nyerere (1970) stated that education should be designed to meet
the economic and developmental circumstances of a nation. It is in realisation of the
above that women need to participate in the socio economic development of any
nation which is in consonant with the United Nations advocacy which led to
pronouncement of a decade for women (1975 1985).
According to the United Nations General Assembly Resolution 3010: XXVII, the
decade was aimed at addressing issues relating to the educational advancement of
women with the over riding goals being that of developing their potentials, contribute
to and benefit from development (United Nations, 1985). The United Nations in a
publication titled The
Nairobi Forward Looking: Strategies for the Advancement of Women , published in
1985 provided a framework for renewal commitment by member states to the
advancement of women in education (United Nations,
The Pan African Significance Of The Obama Administration
The Pan African significance of the Obama administration, Obama the offspring of a
Kenyan engulfed in a bi racial reality (thus rendering him sensitive to
multiculturalism) who fulfills the dream of an oppressed people, has been the
perceived unification of both the African continent and the diaspora. However, the
term Pan Africanismcomes to stir strong feedback because there is no consensual
agreement on what it is. W.E.B. DuBois, in the 1930s, defined Pan Africanism as a
movement aimed at an intellectual understanding and cooperation among all groups
of African descent in order to bring about the industrial and spiritual emancipation of
the Negro people. Other definitions have come in the form of self government by
African countries south of the Sahara, the economic, social, and cultural development
of the continent, the avoidance of conflict among African states, the promotion of
African unity and influence in world affairs, and a personal favorite, a struggle in
which Africans and others of African blood have been engaged since their contact
with modern Europe. Although none of these definitions are entirely accurate they,
together, frame my understanding of Pan Africanism as a political movement and
philosophical tradition founded on African pride, a consciousness of the past, and a
desired unification of continental Africans and all who identify with the diaspora;
seeing Africa(and its descendents) as one body even in the presence of differing
people,

The Negative Speech On Famine And Drought
Introduction: (Charlotte)
We would like to begin by thanking the United Nations for giving us this
opportunity to speak. Joining me today are Julia Antony, Ian Rose, and Ryan
Amer. We are here to discuss the large topic of famine and drought. Drought is
defined as, A long period of time during which there is very little or no rain (First
picture). These two problems alone are some of the largest overarching issues that
our world is facing right now and have been for centuries. At this stage, no one can
ignore the fact that 110 people have died in the last 48 hours at the hand of famine
and drought. (Second picture) Not to mention that in Somalia, more than 900,000
children are malnourished; that alone is more than the entire population of children
in Connecticut. Now over to you, Julia. *transition to next slide. Body 1: (Julia)
Thanks Charlotte. Extreme rain loss in areas all over the world causes intense
droughts. Multiple complications occur when water is no longer abundant. One
of the most severe conflicts caused by this terrible drought is famine. Famine,
described as an extreme scarcity of food, affects over 6.2 million people in
Somalia alone. We are still trying to work out how we ended up here, what we
missed, what we did wrong , announced UNICEF senior nutrition manager Peter
Harris. ( A Famine We Made , researchIT CT) Additionally, if not helped, it is said
that over 100,000 Somalis will die in the next few weeks. Little aid is being received
in this region,
Dachena Rites Of Passage
Everyone goes through rites of passages like, walking, talking, and making
mistakes. It s all a part of growing up. Martin and Dachena go through rites of
passages in some similar and some different ways. Martin s grandpa comes into
town because it s almost time for him to pass down the medicine bag to his grandson
Martin. His rite of passageis him receiving this medicine bag and becoming one of
the tribe. Dachena s rite of passage is a coming of age ritual. She has a big ceremony
all about her becoming a woman. My examination of these two formats will show
all the advantages and disadvantages of how reading the text or watching a video
could help you or not, as well as the similarities and differences between the two
stories.

Persuasive Essay On Teenagers
We need to improve the teen driver s license to make the roads of Maine safer.
Teen brains are not fully developed and they do not understand the consequences of
driving carelessly. Young people s frontal lobes are not fully developed until the
age of twenty five. Teenagers are not able to think the same way as adults. Adults
are able to use rational processes when facing emotional decisions. Teenagers are
more likely to misuse cars by racing, and also party in cars, and make stupid
choices. When a car full of young kids are coming home or going to a party they
tend to misuse the motorized vehicle, this is very dangerous. All the intoxicated
people in the car are telling the driver to act like an idiot, and are peer pressuring
the person into doing things they don t want to do. Young drivers are more likely
to race in cars than adults, this is because adults brains are fully developed and
understand the consequences of what will happen if you speed in a car. Teens are
not capable of making wise choices and understanding the bad things that can
happen, they believe that they are indestructible and nothing will and can happen
to them. This feeling Gilman 2 lends to a false sense of security that leads to not
wearing seat belts and increased risk taking (Stay Away From Education). Stricter
Curfews A Lot of accidents that involve young teens usually occur at night, this is
why we should make the curfew earlier so they are off the roads at a ridiculous
hour of the night. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention in
2005, half of teen deaths from motor vehicle crashes occurred between 3 p.m. and
midnight and 54% occurred on Friday, Saturday, or Sunday (CDC). The
Intermediate License holder must not operate a motor vehicle from 12:00 AM 5:00
AM (MEBMV). When teenagers are driving on the roads most of them do not think
of other drivers, most of the time they think they own the road and nothing will
happen to them. Teenagers have little to almost no experience of driving at night, so
it s dangerous for them to be out on the roads. When anyone is driving a car at night
and they are tired, they react to problems differently. According to the National Sleep
Foundation s 2005 Sleep in America
The War I Was A Devastating Time For The End Of A Day
World War I was a devastating time for the whole entire world, both economically
and physically. Even more devastating than the physical destruction and economic
losses, were the psychological effects on the soldiers who fought this gruesome war.
The conditions and nature of the warfare greatly affected these men. Not only did
they suffer from many physical losses, such as death of beloved ones, separation
from families, and bodily injuries, they also suffered psychologically due to the
extensive trauma. The lost generation suffered immensely from post traumatic stress,
and lost their ability to live normal lives, along with their willpower and strength.
They may have survived, but they were living corpses. The war had turned them into

In the second stanza, the soldier recalls the old days, when the town used to swing
so gay (Owen, 7). He is yearning for the days when life was ideal. In particular, he
yearns for love. This is evident through how he states he will never be able to feel
a woman s slim waist or hands. Now, he says that all of them touch him like some
queer disease implying that any women he does come into contact with are
probably nurses (Owen, 13). This poem depicts how the lost generation was
unable to experience normal life experiences after the war, such as a relationship.
The soldier even reflects on why he joined the army in the first place. It was after
football, when he d drunk a peg / He thought he d better join. He wonders why...
/ Someone had said he d look a god in kilts (Owen, 23 25). The importance
surrounding the life of a soldier and the glamorous uniform enticed him to join the
army, but in reality, being a soldier was nothing like he had expected. Instead of
people honoring him, which was the reason he joined the war, people only pitied
him. Essentially, this poem is comparing the soldier to an old person who spends
his last days in sickness, recalling the good days when he was young and healthy.
He cannot even put himself to bed, and like an old person needs assistance for such
a task. The soldier is an empty soul, every word he utters is dreary and void of any
feeling. The future seems

The Italian Renaissance one of the astounding, and profound Renaissance that had
come across in human history. It is strange and interesting how such a significant
cultural change and achievements could be accomplished in the middle ages and
early modern Europe. Such Imaginative, and intelligent mind were born in the area.

Guelphs and Ghibellines were introduced in italy about 1242 in Florence. The names
seem to have been grafted onto pre existing papal and imperial factions within the
city republics(Dante Alighieri Society of Massachusetts: Guelphs and Ghibellines).
Also a dubious tradition relates that the terms Guelf and Ghibelline originated as
battle cries ( Hie Welf Hie Waiblingen ) during conrad 3 s defeat of Welf VI of
Bavaria in 1140 at the siege of Weinsberg(1). The Ghibellines wanted a strong
monarchy and imperial rule over Italy. The Guelfs advocated the independence of the
Italian cities. The struggle began in the 12th century. After the Hohenstaufen
(Ghibellines) emperors fell in 1254, the conflict turned into petty quarrels(Britannica).
The way each rival got their names is fascinating. Guelf was derived from Welf, the
name of the dynasty of German dukes of Bavaria who competed for imperial throne
through the 12th and early 12th centuries(Guelf and Ghibelline). The name
Ghibelline was derived from Waiblingen, the name of a castle of the welfs opponents,
the Hohenstaufen dukes of swabia(Guelf and Ghibelline). Both the Guelf and the
Ghibellines were sympathetic to certain people who helped them or controlled them.
The Guelphs early became associated with the papacy because of their mutual
Hohenstaufen enemy. They were represented by more democratic middle classes and
merchant class who desired a constitutional government. They represented an
indigenous Italian stock and looked to the pope for help against the Ghibellines.
However this became more and more blurred(Dante Alighieri Society of
Massachusetts: Guelphs and Ghibellines). The Ghibellines who were sympathetic to
the German (Holy Roman) emperors, contributed to chronic strife within the cities of
northern Italy in the 13th and 14th
Chapter One Of Jim Murphy s An American Plague
Chapter One of of Jim Murphy s book, An American Plague, opens with the quote,
About this time, this destroying scourge, the malignant fever, crept in among us
(Murphy 1). This quote is accredited to Mathew Carey in November, 1793. The
term scourge is defined as, a person or thing that cause great trouble of suffering,
and the term malignant is defined as, tending to produce death or deterioration.
These are very strong terms with extremely negative connotative meanings. The
figurative language which is evident in the quote at the opening of Chapter One is
personification. Carey s quote give yellow fever an eerie, human like quality when
he writes, the destroying scourge, the malignant fever, CREPT in among us
(Murphy 1). CArey s word choices and use of personification help to create a
powerful image in the reader s mind of the threat looming over the city of
Philadelphia. Murphy uses powerful sensory language that draws on the reader s
senses of sight, smell, and hearing. Three examples of visual details include: The
sun came up, as it had every day since the end of May, bright hot, and unrelenting
(Murphy 1). The swamps and marshes south of Philadelphia had already lost a
great deal of water to the intense, heat, while the Delaware and Schuylkill Rivers
had receded to reveal long stretches` of their muddy, root choked banks (Murphy 1).
Finally, a third example is, when Murphy writes, deep holes were dug at various
street corners to collect runoff water and
David Hume Matters Of Fact
David Hume was an 18th century Scottish empiricist philosopher who wrote the
essay, An Enquiry Concerning Human Understanding in 1748. Hume was not only
one of the first philosophers to write in English, but was also the first to really
discuss that we cannot know most things with certainty. In this essay, Hume divides
the knowledge that we can know with certainty and that which we cannot into two
categories: relations of ideas, and matters of fact. Relations of Ideas include the
topics of math, such as Geometry, Algebra and Arithmetic. It is this category in
which we can have knowledge with certainty. Relations of Ideas does not use the
senses or any outside influences to discover these truths. These truths are
discoverable by the operation... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This is based on the fact that the future will be like the past. According to Hume,
relationships between objects are known simply by observing their interactions.
Hypotheses are developed based on common experience and cause is established by
observation only. Although there were future philosophers who disagreed with
several aspects of Hume s philosophy of science, Hume was really the first
philosopher to start thinking along the line of how science has progressed in our
current day. He talked about how most knowledge cannot be known with certainty
and began to discuss the idea of probability. Although controversial during his time,
Hume did take a bold stand, which was instrumental in moving science forward.
Hume can be summarized with the following

takes place in Chicago between the years 1890 1893. This novel tells the story of
Daniel Burnham, an architect in charge of building the Chicago World s Fair, and

major story arcs, one revolves around Daniel Burnhamand the other revolves around
H.H. Holmes. Burnham s story explains how he strived to build the fair, Holmes

These men would do anything to succeed. However, Burnham utilized his skills with
good intentions, to create the World s Fair, whereas Holmes utilized his skills with a
cruel motive, to manipulate young women and commit crimes such as insurance
fraud and murder. Similarly, both men were handsome, had vivid blue eyes, and great
charm which enticed many people. Despite this, their personalities differed, Burnham
was loyal and trustworthy, while Holmes was deceitful. This is shown through their
relationships. Burnham had close friends such as John Root, and he stayed faithful to
his wife Margaret. Holmes restrained from letting anyone become close so they
wouldn t learn about his crimes, additionally he had multiple wives whom he never
divorced before marrying another. Furthermore, decisions that Burnham made when
creating the fair were beneficial to the people around him. For example, the fair
created jobs, gave people hope, and improved Americas reputation. Holmes made
decisions that were beneficial only to himself and harmful to others, such as
manipulating people, committing insurance fraud, and murdering young women.
After analyzing these men, it is clear that Burnham represents the good in the world,

Running Economy
Running economy is defined as the energy demand for a given velocity of
submaximal running, and is determined by measuring the steady state consumption
of oxygen and the respiratory exchange ration. Running economy is like fuel in a
vehicle. How much fuel does it take to operate a car or a person s body. Other factor
contributed to how much energyis required to fuel a runner, including metabolic
adaption, the energy storing ability of muscles and how well a runner s body utilizes
energy. Although, I found some of the terms in the article to understand, I found the

Growing up is a journey, to be specific it s a journey in a maze. We go around in
different directions in hopes to find out who we indeed are. Left to right in every
direction we run into things that change our mindset and by the end of the maze, we
are entirely different people. Most mazes have doors; open one door new beginning,
shut another end of that chapter. Specific events in life alter our young minds, and
we tend to grow from these experiences. Personal and social encounters come our
way and turn us into adults. Milkman in the novel Song of Solomon by Toni Morrison

The Secret World Of China s Communist Rulers Summary
The Party: The Secret World Of China s Communist Rulers, by Richard McGregor is
a book which provides detailed insight into the Communist Party of China, revealing
many of the secret underpinnings of how the party is run, and explores the question
of how they have continued to stay in power for so long. While other strong socialist
powers, such as the Soviet Union and Eastern Germany, fell at the end of the 20th
century, the CPC was able to stay in control and ultimately come out of that period
even stronger. In McGregor s own words the party picked itself up off the ground,
reconstituted its armor and reinforced its flank. Somehow, it has outlasted,
outsmarted, outperformed, or simply outlawed its critics, flummoxing the pundits
who have predicted its demise at numerous junctures. Instead of letting its own
ideologies weaken its power, the CPC has continually adapted and transformed its
policies and goals in order to maintain their stronghold over the nation. Through his
impressive list of Chinese scholars and political contacts, McGregor is able to lay out
the fundamental workings inside the Chinese government and the impressive actions

He shows how the party has a strong emphasis on unity within the elite, by

example he uses is while they have opted for a capitalist economy, they are still

The Human Diet And Its Effect On Our Society
The human diet is shaped in evolution. We spent millions of years in a foraging
lifestyle and our genome still expects us to eat this way (Gluckman et al., 2016).
But recently we have adopted a new post industrial lifestyle that seems to go
against our genetic makeup because there is an increasing trend of metabolic
diseases in our society. We noticed this trend decades ago and have been trying to
explain it. In 1962, geneticist James Neel proposed the thrifty gene hypothesis,
saying that some of our ancient ancestors with a gene variant that allowed them to
store calories as fat prevailed because it gave a survival edge during times of famine
(Johnson and Andrews, 2015). That is a great advantage during Paleolithic times

Medical professionals, manufacturers, and consumers are all aware of the negative
impacts of added sugar. So instead of curtailing a sugar addiction, scientists and
manufactures created a healthy alternative: artificial sweeteners. But artificial
sweeteners are not a healthy alternative because they too negatively impact metabolic
health.
Artificial sweeteners are known by many different names: low calorie sweeteners
(LCS), low and non calorie sweeteners (LNCS), non nutritive sweeteners (NNS), and
non caloric artificial sweeteners (NAS) (RiobГі ServГЎn, Sierra Poyatos, Soldo
RodrГguez, 2014). They can be divided into two groups: nutritive sweeteners, which
add some energy value (calories) and non nutritive sweeteners, which are intensely
sweet and add no energy value (Neacsu and Madar, 2014). The Federal Drug

consumption and they are: acesulfame, aspartame, neotame, saccharin, and sucralose
(Ludwig, 2011). These sweeteners are found in thousands of products on the market,
from foods and drinks to toothpastes and medicines. The sweeteners are used as sugar
substitutes because they are so intensely sweet that concentrations low enough do not
increase caloric content, but still provide the desired
The 1941 Film, Citizen Kane,
History has rendered a variety of timeless art. The works have included multiple
genres, such as paintings, music, theatre, and photography. Each of the
aforementioned genres have attributed to an additional ageless art form. Film may
be identified as an art form that combines multiple genres to produce classic work.
This is specifically revealed by an Orson Wellesmovie. The 1941 film, Citizen Kane,
may be considered a classic based on extensive research. Throughout history, the film
is repeatedly rated as one of the greatest films ever produced. Various elements such
as storytelling and technique have contributed to the recognition and acclaim attained
by the film. During the era in which the film was produced, Citizen Kane
revolutionized film making and remains relevant today. Despite the initial response to
the film, Citizen Kane is a definite classic.
Two primary themes within the film contribute to the recognition and acclaim
generated by Citizen Kane. The themes are buried beneath the visual muddle of the
film itself. First, the theme regarding the disparagement of the private disposition of
the municipal figure contribute to the esteem of the film. (Carringer) Next, the theme

A Zombie Apocalypse
A zombie apocalypse is a terrifying thing to imagine, but with an effective, well
thought out emergency plan civilization can be better prepared for this catastrophe.
As chief of police and fire, we are imbedded with the responsibility of help and
guidance to citizens during this time of crisis. Our main priorities would be
evacuation, communication, public safety, and crime prevention.
As chief of police and fire, we would recommend all citizens make their way to one
of our military safe zones, or shelters, and wait for evacuation. We will evacuate
citizens based on need. The elderly, injured, and disabled will be our first priority
of getting out of the city. Since they will be the least fit to protect themselves and
others in case of emergency, it is essential to have help from caregivers and family
members when transporting those less fortunate. Evacuation will happen during
daylight hours to minimize possible complications. Furthermore, no more than
fifty people will be evacuated at a time to help keep evacuations as safe and quick
as possible. We will evacuate citizens by plane to nearby uninfected cities and
further plans for survival will be discussed upon their arrival. If citizens choose to
evacuate on their own, we recommend they travel east or west by car or plane. That
being said, we highly recommend that all of our citizens choose our method of
evacuation. This will keep infection, injuries, and casualties low so all of our citizens
can have the best chance

Explore how time and place are used in the prescribed speeches to shape the

HSC 2013
Speeches form an interpretation of historical events and values which are moulded
around the speaker s opinions and ideology. Paul Keating s Funeral Service of the
Unknown Australian Soldier 1993 and Noel Pearson s An Australian History for Us
All 1996, demonstrate a contrast between how a historical and contextual
understanding of these speeches helps create the necessary apperception on the

both speeches were given in the mid 1990s, they were addressed to different types of

Funeral Service of the Unknown Australian Soldier , was addressed by Paul Keating
as an individual, as well as the Australian Prime Minister, the representative of the
entire nation. The purpose was to pay respect to Australians who had fallen in battle
with the dedication of a monument, without glorifying or celebrating Australia s
participation in war. As it was addressed to a mixed audience, the wider Australian
community, the themes remained universal, to be easily appreciated with minimal
knowledge and understanding of Australia and it s history in war. This unknown
Australian is not interred here to glorify war over peace; ... or of one generation
above any that has or will come later reflects on Keating s anti war perspective
which is contextually proven, as he was well known for being extremely critical of
war and Australia s participation in it as an ally. Without the knowledge of Keating s
anti war ethics, the speech was often thought to celebrate war and Australia s
participation in it, thus creating a divided reception of the speech by the audience.
Despite this, Keating had substantial social respect because of his title as prime
minister, which resulted in the audience readily accepting his point of view.
The concepts of war and peace are the overarching themes in Pearson s An

California State is on the west coast of the United States of America. According to

European Imperialism In Africa Essay
Imperialism in Africa occurred in the late 1800s due to Europeans wanting to expand
to West and Central Africa. Even till this day one can see the damaging effect on the
economy. Imperialism is a policy in which a strong nation is to dominate other
countries politically, economically, and socially. During European Imperialism
,
European nations look to Africaas a source of raw materials and market for industrial
products. Europeans were able to take over majority of the African colonies because
there were more advanced as a civilization and had technology to help navigate their
way through Africa. For example, the electric telegraph (for communicating over long
distance), and quinine from cinchona tree bark ( a treatment for malaria). Before...

This all changed in the late 1800s when Europeans started to explore the interior of
Africa and found a numerous amount of useful raw materials. Upon this discovery,
European nations soon started to compete for African colonies and their handy raw
materials. According to Document B, seven European colonies divided and held
African colonies by 1914. The goal of these European nation was to claim as much
land as possible, feeding into their national pride and growth as a colony. This means
that European Colonies divided Africa into parts and claimed whatever lied within
these boundaries. Dividing African Colonies was an example of competition because
overall European Colonies wanted to claim as much as possible so they can benefit
the most.Along with the division of lands and properties, came their natural resources
and industrial use. In Document D, the chart shows selected African colonies and
their natural resources in that region, displaying their industrial/economic use (what
they can make). Document D can be used to support that competition is the main
driving force behind the European Imperialism because European colonies would
want to have an African colonies that produced the most resources in order to make
the most product. Once again, Imperialism was the conquering of

It is hard to imagine how life would be without air conditioners. Before these
electronic devices came, people used to keep large masses of ice to cool the place.
When air conditioners were invented, their capacity was measured depending
relative to the amount of ice melted in a day. This is where the word a ton of cooling
came to be. A small home air conditioneris able to deliver two tons of cooling with a
larger one about five tons. A ton is expressed as 12,000 BTUs per hour (British

Others have dealership agreements with service firms who repair certain models. It is
recommended that you use authorised professional technicians if any around your
area. If none, it would be prudent that you research for the best qualified technical
team for your repairs. Visit manufacture and air conditioning installer websites and
seek for good deals by contacting them. Most of them offer free quotes for both new
installation and repairs.
Major repair areas
1.Filters
Every air conditioner has a grill like or shiny paper compartment upstream an
evaporator that filters dirt particles from getting to the cooling unit. With time,
filters are filled with dirt particles reducing airflow to the main system. This forces
the conditioner to work harder. In addition, a dirty filter is also a source of air
pollution into your house. You could have filters changed or cleaned every six
months or less depending on quality of outdoor area.
2.Air ducts
Air ducts transfer conditioned air across the building. When the ducts start leaking,
you stand to lose up to fifty percent of your energy. This is because the system tries
to compensate for the loss. Where air ducts pass to the outside, you need to have
them well insulated. A professional contractor can help free up to a half a ton of your
conditioner s capacity by sealing the ducts.
3.Condensing unit
This is the outside compartment of the air conditioner. You need
Collision Repair
Collision repair services are often vital after you have been involved in even
relatively minor auto accidents, but they can also be a little expensive. However,
there are various methods available that can save you money on collision repair
services, such as the three discussed below.
Make Sure That The Repair Service Is Willing To Use Aftermarket Parts
One of the first things you should do when trying to save money on collision repair
is to make sure that any repair service that you hire will be willing to use aftermarket
parts. This is useful because aftermarket parts are typically going to be a lot cheaper
than anything that you could get from the manufacturer of your vehicle. Additionally,
sometimes aftermarket parts may actually be

Sports As A Team And The Main Objective Of The Game
For rugby however, there are 15players on a team and the main objective of the
game is to use the ball to have more points than the other team. In this sport a player
can run, kick and pass with the ball but they are not allowed to pass the ball
forward. It is a contact sport as the players can tackle the opponent/opposition in
order to get the ball. There are three ways to score points in rugby, which is by a
try, a conversion and a goal kick. A try is worth five points, a conversion is worth
two points, and a goal kick is work three points. Therefore, this sport becomes a
high scoring game. Rugby is played on a grass field with lines on it to outline the
boundaries. At each end of the fields there are goal posts at either end with an in
goal area, where players can score their points by placing the ball over this try line.
One team defends and the other is trying to score points, the same as netball. Rugby
consists of eight minutes and is split into forty minute half s. At half time there is a
ten minute break then teams swap ends of the field. These are the basic rules,
regulations and objectives of this sport rugby.
Physical and mental training is required in both sports of Netball and Rugby. Mental
attitude and focus are essential elements in performance of these two sports. For
optimal performance, athletes within these two sports need to learn mental skills to
activate and maintain their level of motivation. Physical training is also an essential

Risk Management at the Llondon 2012 Olympics Essays
Introduction and Background
Introduction
The objective of this paper is to define and analyse what risks management was
carried out during the London Olympic Games, aspects of risk management such as
how risks were identified, the type of risk analysis that was carried out, the risk
responses opted in order to minimise threats, and how risks were monitored and
controlled will be analysed further. After obtaining this information, a comparison
with other Olympic Games will be analysed in order to learn what they did right,
wrong, and how they managed risks. The comparison will be made to support
recommendations on how The London Olympic games could have managed risks
more effectively.

Risk management
Risk management is used in a project in order to identify potential risks that can
somehow affect its objectives. Risks can occur at any time and at any stage during
the project, and they may be associated with a particular task, person or it can also
be from an element outside the project. Any risks that occur at a very late stage in
the project are more likely to have a bigger impact than those that occur at the
beginning, because valuable work that has already been done can be loss or
damage. Risk management is also important in large projects as it can help to
minimised the impact of a risk or totally avoid it, it also can determined what are the
actions to take in order to reduce the impact of a particular risk (Lock, 2007, p.99).
Processes
1.Plan Risk Management
In Plan risk process, the main objective is to define how to carry out all risk
management activities. This process is very important as of it depends the success
of the other five processes, thus it has to be a carful and precise planning. Planning
risk management is important to ensure that the degree, type, and visibility of risk

A whip and a mule for men can be seen as the reason for Angustias timid
communications with Pepe el Romano as seen in the extract. Moreover, Bernarda
s ideals on social status are made clear when Lorca has her reveal the reason for her
sending away Enrique Humanes. This was because His father was a farmhand , the
effect of this being Martirio s assurances that she will never marry. The
uncertainties Bernarda s eldest daughter, Angustias, feels about love, and her
inexperience of this is revealed by her apprehensive questions and statement of I
ought to be happy but I m not . This naivety is emphasised by the all woman cast.
The play opens with the death of the house s sole male inhabitant which furthers this
impression and creates an ironic foreshadowing of the extreme conditions of siege
which Bernarda forces upon her daughters. The distance between Bernarda and her
eldest daughter is made apparent by the short answers Angustias confidences receive
and the physical violence Bernarda directs at her when she strikes her with her stick
in Act one. This, combined with the large sum Angustias inherits from her stepfather,
intimates that she was favoured in his will because of some closer relationship; a
possibility that she, like the Servant, was sexually taken advantage of. This adds a
greater emphasis to the implication of hidden secrets held by the household. Later in
the extract the blackness of the sky outside,

honor code could be better seen as a way of serving the identity and reputation of

Efnisien, Mider s love for Etain, and Rhiannon s magic bag are all instruments of
unworldly power, making the impossible possible for each of the heroes. It is

Cuchulainn, placing not only might and skill but also the will of Cuchulainn as

Universal Set of Principles in the Field of Accounting Essay
Introduction
A principle is defined as a rule, or even an idea that forms the basis of deciding
what is wrong and what is right in context to our actions. As opposed to principles,
we all have our own personal practices and traditions, which determine our behavior
in the society. These practices are determined from our culture, society, ancestors,
experiences and religion etc. But since we live in a world where every person has
their own set of practices and traditions, we cannot expect to live the way we want
and this is where rules and principles come in. The very foundations of any principle
are built upon its underlying morals, ethics and laws, which are expected to be
accepted universally (Chippendale, 2001).

The paper then evaluates International Accounting Standards Board s (IASB)
attempts to develop a conceptual framework and the current state. In the final section
I will discuss and reflect upon the evidence presented to support the topic of this
essay along with a conclusion of facts and ideas presented.
The need for a conceptual framework
As we can understand from above that one person s principle cannot necessarily be
another one s too; there needs to be an independent body, which can produce
universally acceptable principles to resolve matters systematically and uniformly.
When we talk about the introduction of a universal set of principles in the field of
accounting, it was the famous stock crash of 1929, which wreaked havoc in the
financial markets around the globe and created a situation where the need for
generally accepted accounting principles was felt the most! (Lawrence et al, 1993).
The resulting economic downturn, which lasted until 1939, was one of the gravest
depressions ever recorded in the history and a lack of universal accounting standards
was blamed to be one of the reasons for over valuation of stocks and overtrading.
Although the depression arose in the United States but output losses, deflation and
job cuts were observed all over the globe (Romer, 2003). Between these times the
accounting profession started to promote the idea of independent audits and

  • 4. Critical Analysis of The Indifferent by John Donne Essay Critical Analysis of The Indifferent by John Donne The Indifferent by John Donne is a relatively simple love poem in comparison to his other, more complicated works. In this poem, he presents a lover who regards constancy as a vice and promiscuity as the path of virtue and good sense (Hunt 3). Because of Donne s Christian background, this poem was obviously meant to be a comical look at values that were opposite the ones held by Christians. According to Clay Hunt, [ The Indifferent ] is probably quite an early poem because of the simplicity and obviousness of its literary methods, its untroubled gaiety, and its pose of libertinism, which all suggest that Donne wrote [the poem] when he was a young man about town in ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This is first introduced in the last line of the first stanza, and continues throughout the entire poem. The speaker desires a solely sexual relationship with his women, and he believes that such a relationship cannot exist if they are truthful to one another. According to Eleanor McNees, Donne realizes that erotic license is irreconcilable with norms of truth and troth (207). Over the first stanza, the speed of the rhythm also increases with the importance. There is a rhythmic progression from the even, steady movement and moderate stresses of the opening lines to the slower pace, the stronger stresses, and sharply defined metrical pattern of her, and her, and you and you, and finally the very heavy accents on any and true in line 9 (Hunt 5). In the second stanza, the speaker continues upon the theme of faithfulness being a vice, and sexual promiscuity being a virtue. The sexual tone which was suggested in the first stanza in the anti romantic details of spongy eyes and dry cork is intensified by the connotations of the words know and rob me ; and the sexual pun on the word travail in the following line (Hunt 5). The speaker is trying to convince the women that he is talking to that promiscuity is a good thing and that neither he, nor the women should be faithful to their mate. This is evident in the lines: Will no other vice content you? . . . Or doth a fear that men are true, torment you? Oh
  • 5. Chinua Achebe s No Longer At Ease Nick Polanosky SS110 9:15 MWF Book Review on Chinua Achebe s No Longer at Ease Throughout life there is chaos and calm, ups and downs, good fortune and seemingly insurmountable challenges. For the majority of life, it is chaotic but controlled; you deal with issues as they come, and occasionally good things happen and give your mind a break. Obi s fortune is good for most of his life; he gets the first scholarship from Umuofia and studies literature in England before coming home and pursuing a job in the civil service. Eventually things settle down and he ends up stuck in the middle. Although he has a good job that pays very well, he has debts to pay and an unhealthy mother. His fiancГ©e is an Oso, an outcast and he cannot get the approval ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Obi worked in a European Post job on the Civil Service s Scholarship Board, under the supervision of Mr. Green. Early on, he commits himself to honesty and integrity, rejecting a monetary bribe from the brother of a scholarship applicant and also rejecting the applicant herself from bribing him with her body. He maintains this mentality for as long as he can, but once things start going wrong, he has second thoughts. He ends up with serious financial problems and has to borrow money in order to pay his debts; Digging a new pit to fill up and old one (p.124). Because of his financial difficulties and the sudden problems which arise with the death of his mother and the loss of Clara, he begins questioning his ideals and has a change of heart. During his grief he certainly has an identity crisis, and gives in to the temptations. He begins to take bribes from people in order to pay his debts, in contrast with his die hard honesty from earlier on. He eventually realizes that he was doing the wrong thing and vows to stop taking bribes, but one more would be okay. It happened to contain marked bills and proved his guilt, so just one more was too little too late to prevent the inevitable tragic end to Obi s story. No Longer at Ease is almost a textbook Shakespearean tragedy. Obi ( Tragic Hero) is in an elevated position as a university educated man with a government job. His fatal flaw (taking bribes) is hinted at early in the book, before flashing
  • 6. The Theme Of Self, And Slavery In Toni Morrison s Beloved The complex relationship between identity, which is commonly defined as the awareness of one s characteristics and self, and slavery are explored in Toni Morrison s novel Beloved. This novel is set in the 1870 s in Ohio and Sethe, a runaway slave who lives in the house at 124, kills her baby daughter to free her from the horrors of slavery. Therefore, Sethe and other characters encounter appalling and inhumane circumstances as slaves on the Sweet Home plantation. This novel, which is narrated through multiple points of view and incorporates several fragmented flashbacks, includes various symbols that express an important purpose of this work as a whole. Thus, in the novel Beloved by Toni Morrison, the symbolic use of animals, checkers, and names stress that although the institution of slavery dehumanizes slaves, they are still able to assert their identity. A primary way in which Toni Morrison displays the way in which slavery dehumanizes slaves is through the symbolic use of animals. This interpretation of this key symbol is supported by Tuire Valkeakari. She argues that The metaphorical connotations conveyed by the cruel, animalizing treatment of the slave body [...] are central to Morrison s portrayal of the mental struggle between the human and animal definition of self (Valkeakari 199). This conflict of identity is highlighted when Paul D is bothered by the free and noble rooster that roams around Sweet Home. After comparing his situation as a slave to this

A worldview, by definition, is the overall perspective from which one sees and interprets the world; a collection of beliefs about life and the universe held by an individual or a group ( Worldview ). Basically, a person s idea of how reality works relies heavily on their own worldview, whether it be objectively true or not, if there is an objective truth at all. As a person goes through life, more often than not, their worldview changes as they come across new experiences and people. The more the person takes in information and learns through life, the more their worldview changes and evolves, for better or for worse. Like many ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The novel s protagonist is Ralph, who becomes the chief of the group of boys along with Jack, who leads the hunters. Each boy s personality is very different from one another; Ralph is a typical little boy who wants the group to do what is right, Jack is ambitious and, overtime, leads the boys into becoming savage. The other boys include an overweight kid with poor sight and asthma whom everyone calls Piggy, a quiet, but perceptive child named Simon, two twins named Sam and Eric, and a boy with sociopathic tendencies named Roger. While all different, at the start of the novel, they all acted like typical young boys: rough and rowdy, but still innocent, just as any child. With no adults around to impose order, they are left to their own devices. First the boys proceed to set up a pragmatic system based on a grown up model: government, laws, shelters, plumbing facilities, and food supplies (Tiger). As the novel goes on, however, the boys soon give in to their own animalistic fears and instincts. Golding s Lord of the Flies tugged at private hunches that males even small boys enjoyed aggression, group hierarchies, and the savor of blood (Tiger). Without a society to impose rules and morality on the children, they are left with their own urges, and innocent blood is shed as a result. Their tale is told as an allegory for the darkness and brutality that lives inside the hearts of

This paradigm shift is evident in the texts from the era, and by studying them we come to understand the values and atmosphere of the time and the effect those values had on the texts. The Cold Warbegan after the end of World War II, after the atomic bombing of Hiroshima and Nagasaki by the United States of America; that continued until the early 90s with the dissolving of the Soviet Union. • 21. The Pan African Significance Of The Obama Administration The Pan African significance of the Obama administration, Obama the offspring of a Kenyan engulfed in a bi racial reality (thus rendering him sensitive to multiculturalism) who fulfills the dream of an oppressed people, has been the perceived unification of both the African continent and the diaspora. However, the term Pan Africanismcomes to stir strong feedback because there is no consensual agreement on what it is. W.E.B. DuBois, in the 1930s, defined Pan Africanism as a movement aimed at an intellectual understanding and cooperation among all groups of African descent in order to bring about the industrial and spiritual emancipation of the Negro people. Other definitions have come in the form of self government by African countries south of the Sahara, the economic, social, and cultural development of the continent, the avoidance of conflict among African states, the promotion of African unity and influence in world affairs, and a personal favorite, a struggle in which Africans and others of African blood have been engaged since their contact with modern Europe. Although none of these definitions are entirely accurate they, together, frame my understanding of Pan Africanism as a political movement and philosophical tradition founded on African pride, a consciousness of the past, and a desired unification of continental Africans and all who identify with the diaspora; seeing Africa(and its descendents) as one body even in the presence of differing people,

  • 25. Persuasive Essay On Teenagers We need to improve the teen driver s license to make the roads of Maine safer. Teen brains are not fully developed and they do not understand the consequences of driving carelessly. Young people s frontal lobes are not fully developed until the age of twenty five. Teenagers are not able to think the same way as adults. Adults are able to use rational processes when facing emotional decisions. Teenagers are more likely to misuse cars by racing, and also party in cars, and make stupid choices. When a car full of young kids are coming home or going to a party they tend to misuse the motorized vehicle, this is very dangerous. All the intoxicated people in the car are telling the driver to act like an idiot, and are peer pressuring the person into doing things they don t want to do. Young drivers are more likely to race in cars than adults, this is because adults brains are fully developed and understand the consequences of what will happen if you speed in a car. Teens are not capable of making wise choices and understanding the bad things that can happen, they believe that they are indestructible and nothing will and can happen to them. This feeling Gilman 2 lends to a false sense of security that leads to not wearing seat belts and increased risk taking (Stay Away From Education). Stricter Curfews A Lot of accidents that involve young teens usually occur at night, this is why we should make the curfew earlier so they are off the roads at a ridiculous hour of the night. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention in 2005, half of teen deaths from motor vehicle crashes occurred between 3 p.m. and midnight and 54% occurred on Friday, Saturday, or Sunday (CDC). The Intermediate License holder must not operate a motor vehicle from 12:00 AM 5:00 AM (MEBMV). When teenagers are driving on the roads most of them do not think of other drivers, most of the time they think they own the road and nothing will happen to them. Teenagers have little to almost no experience of driving at night, so it s dangerous for them to be out on the roads. When anyone is driving a car at night and they are tired, they react to problems differently. According to the National Sleep Foundation s 2005 Sleep in America

Not only did they suffer from many physical losses, such as death of beloved ones, separation from families, and bodily injuries, they also suffered psychologically due to the extensive trauma. In the second stanza, the soldier recalls the old days, when the town used to swing so gay (Owen, 7). He is yearning for the days when life was ideal. In particular, he yearns for love. This is evident through how he states he will never be able to feel a woman s slim waist or hands. Now, he says that all of them touch him like some queer disease implying that any women he does come into contact with are probably nurses (Owen, 13). This poem depicts how the lost generation was unable to experience normal life experiences after the war, such as a relationship. The soldier even reflects on why he joined the army in the first place. It was after football, when he d drunk a peg / He thought he d better join. He wonders why... / Someone had said he d look a god in kilts (Owen, 23 25). The importance surrounding the life of a soldier and the glamorous uniform enticed him to join the army, but in reality, being a soldier was nothing like he had expected. Instead of people honoring him, which was the reason he joined the war, people only pitied him. Essentially, this poem is comparing the soldier to an old person who spends his last days in sickness, recalling the good days when he was young and healthy. He cannot even put himself to bed, and like an old person needs assistance for such a task. The soldier is an empty soul, every word he utters is dreary and void of any feeling. The future seems

The names seem to have been grafted onto pre existing papal and imperial factions within the city republics(Dante Alighieri Society of Massachusetts: Guelphs and Ghibellines). Also a dubious tradition relates that the terms Guelf and Ghibelline originated as battle cries ( Hie Welf Hie Waiblingen ) during conrad 3 s defeat of Welf VI of Bavaria in 1140 at the siege of Weinsberg(1). The Ghibellines wanted a strong monarchy and imperial rule over Italy. The Guelfs advocated the independence of the Italian cities. The struggle began in the 12th century. After the Hohenstaufen (Ghibellines) emperors fell in 1254, the conflict turned into petty quarrels(Britannica). The way each rival got their names is fascinating. Guelf was derived from Welf, the name of the dynasty of German dukes of Bavaria who competed for imperial throne through the 12th and early 12th centuries(Guelf and Ghibelline). The name Ghibelline was derived from Waiblingen, the name of a castle of the welfs opponents, the Hohenstaufen dukes of swabia(Guelf and Ghibelline). Both the Guelf and the Ghibellines were sympathetic to certain people who helped them or controlled them. The Guelphs early became associated with the papacy because of their mutual Hohenstaufen enemy. They were represented by more democratic middle classes and merchant class who desired a constitutional government. They represented an indigenous Italian stock and looked to the pope for help against the Ghibellines. However this became more and more blurred(Dante Alighieri Society of Massachusetts: Guelphs and Ghibellines). The Ghibellines who were sympathetic to the German (Holy Roman) emperors, contributed to chronic strife within the cities of northern Italy in the 13th and 14th

Chapter One Of Jim Murphy s An American Plague Chapter One of of Jim Murphy s book, An American Plague, opens with the quote, About this time, this destroying scourge, the malignant fever, crept in among us (Murphy 1). This quote is accredited to Mathew Carey in November, 1793. The term scourge is defined as, a person or thing that cause great trouble of suffering, and the term malignant is defined as, tending to produce death or deterioration. These are very strong terms with extremely negative connotative meanings. The figurative language which is evident in the quote at the opening of Chapter One is personification. Carey s quote give yellow fever an eerie, human like quality when he writes, the destroying scourge, the malignant fever, CREPT in among us (Murphy 1). CArey s word choices and use of personification help to create a powerful image in the reader s mind of the threat looming over the city of Philadelphia. Murphy uses powerful sensory language that draws on the reader s senses of sight, smell, and hearing. Three examples of visual details include: The sun came up, as it had every day since the end of May, bright hot, and unrelenting (Murphy 1). The swamps and marshes south of Philadelphia had already lost a great deal of water to the intense, heat, while the Delaware and Schuylkill Rivers had receded to reveal long stretches` of their muddy, root choked banks (Murphy 1). Finally, a third example is, when Murphy writes, deep holes were dug at various street corners to collect runoff water and

The Secret World Of China s Communist Rulers Summary The Party: The Secret World Of China s Communist Rulers, by Richard McGregor is a book which provides detailed insight into the Communist Party of China, revealing many of the secret underpinnings of how the party is run, and explores the question of how they have continued to stay in power for so long. While other strong socialist powers, such as the Soviet Union and Eastern Germany, fell at the end of the 20th century, the CPC was able to stay in control and ultimately come out of that period even stronger. In McGregor s own words the party picked itself up off the ground, reconstituted its armor and reinforced its flank. Somehow, it has outlasted, outsmarted, outperformed, or simply outlawed its critics, flummoxing the pundits who have predicted its demise at numerous junctures. Instead of letting its own ideologies weaken its power, the CPC has continually adapted and transformed its policies and goals in order to maintain their stronghold over the nation. Through his impressive list of Chinese scholars and political contacts, McGregor is able to lay out the fundamental workings inside the Chinese government and the impressive actions they ve taken to remain such a powerful organization.... Knowledge area Risk management Risk management is used in a project in order to identify potential risks that can somehow affect its objectives. Risks can occur at any time and at any stage during the project, and they may be associated with a particular task, person or it can also be from an element outside the project. Any risks that occur at a very late stage in the project are more likely to have a bigger impact than those that occur at the beginning, because valuable work that has already been done can be loss or damage. Risk management is also important in large projects as it can help to minimised the impact of a risk or totally avoid it, it also can determined what are the actions to take in order to reduce the impact of a particular risk (Lock, 2007, p.99). ANGUSTIAS: I find him distracted. He always talks to me as if his mind is on something else. If I ask him what s wrong, he says: We men have our own problems. BERNARDA: You shouldn t ask him. And when you marry, less still. Speak if he speaks, and look at him when he looks at you. Do that and you won t have disagreements. ANGUSTIAS: Mother, I think he s hiding things from me. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... A whip and a mule for men can be seen as the reason for Angustias timid communications with Pepe el Romano as seen in the extract. Moreover, Bernarda s ideals on social status are made clear when Lorca has her reveal the reason for her sending away Enrique Humanes. This was because His father was a farmhand , the effect of this being Martirio s assurances that she will never marry. The uncertainties Bernarda s eldest daughter, Angustias, feels about love, and her inexperience of this is revealed by her apprehensive questions and statement of I ought to be happy but I m not . This naivety is emphasised by the all woman cast. The play opens with the death of the house s sole male inhabitant which furthers this impression and creates an ironic foreshadowing of the extreme conditions of siege which Bernarda forces upon her daughters. The distance between Bernarda and her eldest daughter is made apparent by the short answers Angustias confidences receive and the physical violence Bernarda directs at her when she strikes her with her stick in Act one. This, combined with the large sum Angustias inherits from her stepfather, intimates that she was favoured in his will because of some closer relationship; a possibility that she, like the Servant, was sexually taken advantage of. This adds a greater emphasis to the implication of hidden secrets held by the household. Later in the extract the blackness of the sky outside,

Christopher Kramer English 319U 03/22/2017 Honor To The Hero The honor code that can be found in the Mabinogi, The Tain, and Gantz s Early Irish Myths and Sagas drives the characters towards the ideal Celtic hero. The following of the honor code could be better seen as a way of serving the identity and reputation of the hero rather than a deeper code of morality as it might suggest. The gae bolga, Efnisien, Mider s love for Etain, and Rhiannon s magic bag are all instruments of unworldly power, making the impossible possible for each of the heroes. It is because of these supernatural influences that the heroes are both blessed and cursed by their own powers. The compliance to the honor code plays less a role in truly enabling the hero and... (The Tain 256) And the gae bolga again brings death to a warrior more skilled then Cuchulainn, placing not only might and skill but also the will of Cuchulainn as the agent of fate. It might be of no coincidence that both Cuchulainn s and Ferdia s foster mother Scathach gives the gae bolga to Cuchulainn. (The Tain 72) Scathach is a prophetess and she knows Cuchulainn s fate and his dedication to his heroic role in fighting for the honor of Ulster. (The Tain, 69) The Mabinogi, King Bendigeidfran s wisdom and honor is depicted in the story of Branwen daughter of Llyr, when he divides the cauldron people among the land, helping them grow into good warriors (The Mabinogi 64). King Matholwch, the king of Ireland resents the cauldron people who after receiving complaints, resorts to burning the cauldron people alive. The story of the cauldron people emphasizes King Matholwch s weak will. His honor is submissive in both the presence of Bendigeidfran and his people, often resorting to following their bad advice. Within the main plot, King Bendigeidfran exhibits honor and allegiance to Matholwch in giving Branwen s hand in marriage. I couldn t imagine someone being resistant in providing lifesaving information. My opinion is the majority of people would be more than happy to share this information. • 58. Universal Set of Principles in the Field of Accounting Essay Introduction A principle is defined as a rule, or even an idea that forms the basis of deciding what is wrong and what is right in context to our actions. As opposed to principles, we all have our own personal practices and traditions, which determine our behavior in the society. These practices are determined from our culture, society, ancestors, experiences and religion etc. But since we live in a world where every person has their own set of practices and traditions, we cannot expect to live the way we want and this is where rules and principles come in. The very foundations of any principle are built upon its underlying morals, ethics and laws, which are expected to be accepted universally (Chippendale, 2001). A society may have its ... In the final section I will discuss and reflect upon the evidence presented to support the topic of this essay along with a conclusion of facts and ideas presented. The need for a conceptual framework As we can understand from above that one person s principle cannot necessarily be another one s too; there needs to be an independent body, which can produce universally acceptable principles to resolve matters systematically and uniformly. When we talk about the introduction of a universal set of principles in the field of accounting, it was the famous stock crash of 1929, which wreaked havoc in the financial markets around the globe and created a situation where the need for generally accepted accounting principles was felt the most! (Lawrence et al, 1993). The resulting economic downturn, which lasted until 1939, was one of the gravest depressions ever recorded in the history and a lack of universal accounting standards was blamed to be one of the reasons for over valuation of stocks and overtrading. Although the depression arose in the United States but output losses, deflation and job cuts were observed all over the globe (Romer, 2003). Between these times the accounting profession started to promote the idea of independent audits and
