Twitter Assignment
The Daring Librarian- @GwynethJones
Gwyneth Jones describes herself as a teacher, librarian, mover, shaker, blogger and
speaker. I liked that Gwyneth shared several links to several blogs regarding reading and
education. She posted several links that consisted of many blog tips that could be used as an
educator. I also like that her twitter doesn’t only consist of educational posts. She also makes
posts of her favorite shows and YouTube videos which shows her personality and her interests.
She posted many pictures of reading promotion displays, and ways to incorporate blogging into
your classroom. There really isn’t anything that I disliked about Gwyneth’s twitter page. I
thought her page was very informal and beneficial for teachers who follow her.
Josh Stumpenhorst- @Stumpteacher
Josh Stumpenhorst describes himself as a father, husband, teacher, blogger and presenter.
His twitter page consists of mostly tweets pertaining to what he is teaching in his classroom
along with posts from his BlogSpot page. I personally loved following his twitter page because I
feel like he is an inspirational and encouraging educator. I loved all of his tweets regarding his
students and their classroom discussions. He truly seems like he his passionate about his career
and genuinely cares for his students. Once again, there wasn’t anything that I disliked about this
particular twitter. The two twitters that I enjoyed following the most were Stumpteacher and
GwynethJones. I thought these two twitter pages were most informational and beneficial to
myself as a teacher candidate.
Wise in WV- @WiseInWV
Wise in WV is working on institutionalizing sex education in WV schools in an effort to
reduce unintentional pregnancy and to reduce STD rates. The twitter page posts quizzes, roles
and expectations of teachers and students in sex education. The twitter page is very supportive to
those who are encountering issues such as unplanned pregnancy and STD’s an also offers several
support groups that can be attended. Wise in WV is based out of Charleston, WV and has a
website (wvfree.org). I like that this twitter is so open and encouraging to those who are
struggling with these issues. Sometimes all it takes is for people to feel like someone understand
their situation and their struggles and it can completely turn around their lives. Wise in WV is a
beneficial twitter page that I will definitely continue to support in the future.
Tom AltePeter- @TomAltepeter
Tom Altepeter describes himself as a former elementary school principle, current middle school
principle. He describes himself as passionate about intercultural responsiveness and social
justice. Tom mostly tweets about football, so I wasn’t as interested in his twitter as I was some of
the others. Although he posts some educational tweets, his main tweets are directly related to
sports and personal opinions regarding sports. This was my least favorite twitter to follow this
semester. Although the educational posts that he did post were informational and somewhat
beneficial to myself as a teacher candidate. I feel like the other twitters that I followed this
semester were more beneficial than Tom’s.
Jerry Bluemgarten- @cybraryman1
Jerry Bluemgarten describes himself on twitter as an educator, speaker, writer, social media
storyteller and an education cataloger. Jerry’s twitter page consists of tweets regarding his
educational blogs and his opinions and interests regarding education. Since twitter limits the
amount of characters you are able to put on to your post, I like that Jerry includes his person
website into his tweets so that if you are more interested in what the subject you are able to look
at his website to read more. This was a fun twitter to follow, however I think he should have put
a little more about his personal teaching instructions and goals. It seems like blogging is a
personal favorite for many of the twitter pages we followed this semester. I enjoyed reading each
of their twitters, but especially those who included their own interests as well as their interests,
goals and expectations as teachers.
CI350 Class- @CI350 Class
We were asked to follow our class CI350 twitter page. The class page updated our class on extra
credit opportunities as well as updates on news related topics. Along with extra credit
announcements and news related announcements, there were several links posted regarding
social media in education. I enjoyed following this twitter account because I like being informed
of events going on at Marshall, and I felt like it was an easy way to connect with my peers and
my professor if I had any questions or concerns. However, I think it would have been more
beneficial to us as students to post more on the twitter about what is going on in class, and
possibly class discussions on twitter regarding assignments that are coming up.
