Coronary Artery Disease Research Paper
Abstract
The heart is composed of four chambers, the right and left atrium and the right and left ventricles.
This important muscle is used to pump and create pressure to circulate blood throughout our
bodies2. It is important for our heart to properly function because it helps blood deliver important
nutrients and oxygen to the rest of our body. The heart is located in between the lungs (2/3 slightly
tilted to the left), in the central portion of the thorax2. The atria collect the blood versus the
ventricles which pump out the blood to the rest of the body. In order for the heart to properly
function is must also receive enough oxygen and proper electrical stimulus. The coronary arteries
are in charge of distributing adequate amounts of oxygen to the heart2. The heart s nodes help the
heart function with electrical impulses which allow the heart to contract. These are also known as
the pacemakers of the heart. Failure to properly function can result in a heart attack.

Open and Closed Source Systems Essay
An operating system is a considered a set of programs that schedule tasks, assign storage and
presenting an interface to the user. There are many operating systems to choose from. Some are
created for personal use, some for business use, and some can be used for both. One of the biggest
differences is whether the operating system is open sourceor closed source. Operating systems are
created with programming code. Programmers are responsible for writing the source code, which
is compiled into executable code. This executable code is what creates the product ran on
computers. An open source system is a system in which the source code is visible. A closed source
system keeps the source code hidden.

Users have several options when choosing a closed source system. Some examples would include
Microsoft Windows and Apple OS X operating systems. Like open source systems, closed source
systems offer software for a variety of uses that include personal, server and mobile.
Open SourceClosed Source
Linux
Red Hat
UnixWindows 97, XP, 7, Vista
Versions of Window Server
Mac OS X
Closed source systems are usually found in personal computers because the level of expertise
needed to use them is minimal. There are many factors to consider when determining which
system to use. The level of expertise of the user, the costs of the system and any add ons, and the
flexibility of the system must all be considered. The type of application also plays some role in
the decision. Both types can be found in personal, server, and mobile applications. However, open
source systems are often found more in mobile and server applications.
Using the UNIX Environment
I am currently using Windows 7 as my primary operating system and I have been a Windows user
since I started really using computers so the transition for me to a UNIX/Linux environment has
been a bit daunting. For the purposes of this comparison I downloaded Cygwin, which emulates a
Linux environment quite well. The first issue that I had to figure out was where did the GUI go? I

Analysis Of Oliver Twist, A Christmas Carol, And A Tale Of...
Oliver s Twisted Story In February of 1837, Charles Dickens s first installment of Oliver Twist was
published. These installments continued to be published monthly until April of 1839. London
during this time period was split almost directly down the middle, the upper class and the lower
class, the middle being almost nonexistent. In the nineteenth century, the English government was
ran adjacent with the church, although the harsh truth of lower class cruelty corrupts this image.
The country, despite its relationship with the church, did not run on the concept of Christianity but
the warped perceptions of the Bible and the desire for money. Charles Dickenss Oliver Twist
unknowingly sparked the social changes in nineteenth century London by exposing the harsh
conditions of the lower class through the life of an innocent child.
Charles Dickens, born February 7, 1812, wrote many classic novels including Oliver Twist, A
Christmas Carol, and A Tale of Two Cities. Dickens grew up in a lower class family, because of
that his father, John Dickens, was arrested and put in jail for debt when Charles was twelve
years old. Soon after this, Dickens had to stop school and go into work at Warren s Blacking
Factory, a shoe polish factory (Cody). By the time his father was released and Dickens was able to
leave the factory, he had already suffered through many harsh conditions that affected him for the
rest of his life. The feeling of abandonment and betrayal he felt from that soon became

The Golden Age Of Discovery
The Golden Age begins in 1415 and ends in 1578 (Kreis, 2011, para 4).The Golden Age is also
referred to as the Age of Discovery (Kreis, 2011, para 4).This age of discovery was entailed in

A sailing school was established in Sagres which promoted more expeditions, which led to
exploring multiple islands and made expansions of Portugal s empire possible (Bamber, 2001, para

Alena Synjova once stated, I d like to go away alone where there are other, nicer people,
somewhere into the far unknown, there, where no one kills another. Maybe more of us, a thousand
strong, will reach this goal before too long (VolavkovГЎ, 1994, p. 50). During the Holocaust,
people craved opportunity to escape to a place where there were polite people and no one killed
each other. The Holocaust affected everyone, ranging from the elderly to the young children, who
were faced with horrific situations. They witnessed the death of the people around them and were

Essay on Sweatshops
Sweatshops in the United States
Americans love to shop. With malls everywhere you go, shopping just might be America s favorite
past time! When you are out shopping though, do you ever stop to think where all of those clothes
and shoes come from? When I was younger, well, actually until recently, I always thought they were
all made by machines. Shirt machines, pants machines amp;#8230;you get the picture. I have
learned, however, that for the most part, clothes are still made on sewing machines, by people, and
often under circumstances that we can only imagine.
Sweatshops have always been a problem in the Unites States, especially during the past century.
Unfair working conditions and pay prompted the formation of the Garment Worker ... Show more

In some cases, I ve learned, with brute force. On August 2, 1995, the Department of Labor raided
a factory in El Monte, California. There they found 72 garment workers, mostly Thai and
Mexican immigrants, being forced to work 17 hours a day at wages between $.60 and $1.60 and
hour. They were literally held captive at the factory by barbwire and armed guards. Employees
were threatened with rape and violence if they attempted escape. The El Monte sweatshop was
finally discovered when an employee escaped through a ventilation shaft.
In many sweatshops, however, the workers are there voluntarily. Even the meager wages earned are
more than the undocumented immigrants workers would earn in their home countries. As long as
there is a supply of willing workers, sweatshops will flourish.
So what can be done? How can the sweatshop problem in the United States be resolved? Is there
even a plausible solution? Through my research for this speech I have discovered that everyone
seems to have a solution, yet putting the solutions into action is another thing altogether.
Of the many solutions to the problem, the main, and most obvious solution, is government
regulation. The Department of Labor monitors the garment industry, but with 800 inspectors for
22,000 garment contractors, in addition to 6 million American

American Indian Religious Freedom Act
Prior to the Second World War, religious places remained untouched as they were mainly located
in rural areas. However, the period after the Second World War was characterized by an increase
in population, corporate farming, a more vibrant timber industry as well as an expanded
recreational industry. This change resulted in less respect for the public land, and the situation
was made worse by the proliferation of state and federal agencies that have no respect for the
public land. It thus becomes difficult for the Native Indians to have access to shrines as the
politicians promulgated rules that disregarded public land particularly places of worship. One such
narrow minded law that has failed to achieve its ultimate goal is the American Indian Religious
Freedom Act that was enacted in 1978. The law made it clear the government efforts of protecting
the religious rights of the American Indians not only to express their belief but also to practice this
believes through traditional religion. However, this law faced major blows especially on the
corridors of justice where the Court viewed the Congress action in enacting the American Indian
Religious Freedom Act as efforts of the government to establish a state religion.
Instead of the government respecting the right of the Indians to maintain their religious places, it
invokes its power as the custodian of the public land by claiming that it has the mandate of utilizing
any piece of public land for the benefit of the entire

Analysis Of The Poem The Anglo Saxons
The Anglo Saxons believed that when a man was injured or killed wrongfully, he should be
avenged by his kinsmen. One form of atonement for a wrongful death was the wer gild, which
means man gold where the family of the deceased was paid a sum to compensate them. Given
that the Anglo Saxons believed heavily in honor and leaving a legacy, since they had no
afterlife, not paying the wer gild was an extremely disrespectful action. This is displayed in
Beowolf narrated as ...long against Hrothgar / Grendel struggled: his grudges he cherished,
/ murderous malice, many a winter, / strife unremitting, and peacefully wished he / life woe to
lift from no liegeman at all of the men of / the Dane folk, for money to settle, / no counsellor
needed count for a moment / on handsome amends at the hands of the murderer; (Beowolf),
meaning that Grendel was brutally murdering Hrothgar s men for many winters and would give
no money to settle the wer gild, bringing dishonor to the lord s name. 3. Green Belt/ Girdle As he
tries to be a good, chivalrous knight, Sir Gawain must flatter the lord s wife while not insulting
her or breaking his vows or promises to the lord. So when the lord s wife appears in his room and
gets in his bed in attempt to sleep with him, he has to flatter her and declare his undying love for
her without sinning and actually having sex with her. After he successfully avoids her temptation,

Eternal Sunshine Belonging
I remember writing a speech in English class in high school about human behavior on happiness.
In this paper I wrote, I think we spend too much time contemplative on the undesirable
certainties of our past and we become so blinded by all the good things that are happening around
us. The song Eternal Sunshine is written by JhenГЁ Aiko; in this song she reaches out for
something more intimate like disturbing memories hidden deep within her mind. This specific
music video takes you through a series of events from JhenГЁ s past, stressing the presence of
thoughts we put aside when surrounded by people, things we only think about when we are in a
dark place in life, and concealed in eternal thoughts. Throughout the video, JhenГЁ s body is
arising from the ground while her potentially fatal car accident is vividly reenacted behind her
along with good remembrances from her childhood. Though JhenГЁ Aiko is usually speaking
about love and weed that does not infer that she has not had her fair stake of pain within her

You see throughout the whole video that the background is the street where the accident
happened. JhenГЁ brings in the video with her body slowly uprising from the bare streets
behind her. Though the lighting throughout the video is frequent, the angle in which JhenГЁ s
arising body is shot, gives viewers the desire to look forward to an unpredictable scene. By this
being the introduction to JhenГЁ s music video, it instantly sets the mood and emotions for the
audience. It was a great introduction to the movie because it made wonder what was going to
happen next. Before the video I had no clue this incident ever occurred in her life. With Aiko
singing, Is it strange for me to say that if I were to die today, there s not a thing that I would

The California least tern (Sterna antillarum browni), a subspecies of least tern, breeds primarily
on the Pacific Coast of California from San Francisco southward to Baja California, with a
limited range in Southern California. The California least tern is a migratory bird and its full

The leaders were using a goal and rewards based system to encourage the maximum potential of
the traders. Conceptually this was successful, however in the State of California s power

including rolling blackouts and power plant shut downs. Raising the price of power even thought
there was power for everyone, only its manipulation fed the traders ego s and Enron s bottom line.
This atmosphere of someone is always watch and evaluating you and your performance level leads
to social facilitation. Everyone wants to do their absolute best when they know that the boss is

individual. Teamwork was seemingly not embraced but rather the concept of self edification
through wealth as the ultimate goal.
Once the charismatic leadership of Skilling had promoted conformity among the employees. The
nonconformist employees were essentially voted out to keep the idealized vision and toxic work
place intact. Skilling had many of the attributes of a fine leader, but was devoid of integrity. This

this, exhibiting little if any personal guilt for their own actions and behavior.

The Rule Of The Us Constitution
The words democracy and republicanism are words most commonly used, but often
misunderstood. The Father of the US Constitution, James Madison, has been an eye opener for
many who are still uncertain of what the words mean. When we think of the term democracy and
republicanism, we automatically make an assumption that reflects on politics, power, voting,
elections and parliaments. Madison, however; focused more on liberty, freedom, and what is
right for the people. Simultaneously, he felt as if the people should choose who represents them
and will make decisions on the issues based on what the people saw fit for their needs. In contrary
to what Madison believe, he recognized that tyranny for majorities is a major threat to freedom.
Therefore, a republicanism can be interpreted as a country owned by its people rather than by a
monarch. Democracy, however; is the rule of the people, according to Madison. It is understood
that representatives in a democracy is supposed to be balanced rather than unsteady. It is accurate
that we do not govern by pure majority rule, because people within the governmentsystem simply
do not understand the issues. In some form or another, there will be protection for minorities
within their rules and laws and even with the substantial powers afforded to majorities in
Parliament. In Madison s paper, Federalist #10, he states that The two great points of difference
between a democracy and a republic are: first, the delegation of the government, in

Symbolism in A Doll’s House Essay
Henrik Ibsen s A Doll s House is a controversial play focusing on the marriage of Nora and
Torvald Helmer. The play is filled with symbols that represent abstract ideas and concepts. These
symbols effectively illustrate the inner conflicts that are going on between the characters. Henrik
Ibsen s use of symbolism such as the Christmas tree, the locked mailbox, the Tarantella, Dr. Rank s
calling cards, and the letters allows him to give a powerful portrayal to symbolize aspects of
characters and their relationship to each other.

Ibsen also uses a symbol to develop Torvald Helmer as a character. The locked mailbox represents
Torvald as a superior and controlling husband. The mailbox is for Torvald alone to access, as he
only holds the key. Similarly, Torvald s study is a private room that Nora is never allowed to
enter. The fact that Torvald will not even allow Nora to read the mail shows how far he has kept
her apart from the outside world and kept her under his total control. Torvald does not recognize
Nora as an intellectual person to be involved with any business or important matters in life. The
mailbox also represents Nora s submissiveness, which signifies the oppression of all women during
the time period.
The Tarantella is an Italian folk dance. The name Tarantella derives from the name of a poisonous

Dengue Fever Personal Statement
I grew up in a family of doctors and engineers so my interests were naturally shaped around the
sciences. However, my dad was the black sheep of the family who decided to pursue business. I
remember listening to his phone calls about product development, marketing and accounting and
although at the age of eight I had no idea what he was talking about, he gradually pulled my
interests into the world of business. In a way, I could say I had the best of both worlds.
Although I was often told that studying science and business was unfocused and unnecessarily
challenging, I disagreed completely. I was engrossed in dissections, the immune system and
neurology during biology and the colorful yet sometimes dangerous experiments during chemistry.

Living in the tropical island of Sri Lanka meant heavy exposure to mosquitoes and Dengue fever is
a horrifying yet rather common disease that most Sri Lankans suffer from at least once in their
lifetime. I remember when it was my turn. I was diagnosed at a time where dengue fever was at
a peak high in Sri Lanka and my parents struggled to find me a room at a hospital because so
many patients were admitted due to dengue fever. Although I was fortunate enough to find a room
eventually, I remember passing the children in the hospital hallways who could not find a vacant
room. Why don t people understand that there is a huge demand for better healthcare that isn t
being met? I thought. As I lay in my bed surrounded by the four white walls of my room, I realized
that this was only in Colombo, where most people had access to healthcare. Imagine the dengue

African Popes
THE AFRICAN POPES OF THE ROMAN CATHOLIC CHURCH
According to the Liber Pontificalis, three of the early Roman Catholic popes were natives of
Africa. Pope Victor 1, Miltiades and Gelasius I.
The Liber Pontificalis is a Latin book which was written as early as the second or the fourth
century AD and it consist all the detailed records and biographies of the first 90 popes of the

Gustave Courbet Gleaners
A Formal Analysis of Gustave Courbet s Burial at Ornans and Jean François Millet s Gleaners
The realism era came about during the time of the Romantics, the time where imagination and
ideology painted the artists canvas. To be a realist meant that an artist would paint what he
actually saw and not an idea of something. For instance, if an artist were to paint a depiction of
war, then all the gruesome details would probably be considered in the piece of art. The artist that
essentially paved the way out of Romanticism and into the era of Realism was Gustave Courbet
considered by some to be the first realist. He dismissed academic painting and insisted that Realist
painting was only what one could actually see. His most famous statement is I have never seen an
angel. Show me an angel, and I ll paint one.

Millet used an oil medium and centered the subject matter on canvas with dimensions measuring
at around thirty three inches in height and forty four inches in width. This piece appears to be
photorealistic because in the center of the work, the three peasant workers come across in an
almost life like representation of a mundane task. The Gleaners is an excellent depiction of the
daily struggles of the of the lower income class. Paul de Saint Victor, an essayist and literary
critic of the time bestowed on this work of art to be The three Fates of pauperism. Millet used
the appearance of a sunset and his use of color seems to illuminate on these women as they work.
The color and the fact that Millet placed the three women so much in the foreground placed
emphasis on the work and the strength that they carry. This painting was displayed in the Salon in
1857 and has had exposure all over the world. Currently The Gleaners is on conservation at the

The Theory Of The Social Learning Theory
The act of learning is an innate characteristic belonging to people across the globe. Learning can
take place in many different forms (reading, writing, speaking, listening, excellency in a particular
skill, etc.) and settings, generalizing from one content area to another. It also occurs at varying rates
across a diverse spectrum of populations and can be influenced by any number of factors including
personalities, perceived abilities, societal values and environment. Some individuals acquire
information best in formal settings, like the direct instruction or supports found in a classroom,
while others may benefit more from informal instruction, learning incidentally from their
surroundings. Throughout the course of history, there have been many perspectives regarding
education and the manner in which individuals learn best. I will primarily focus on the educational
perspective of the Social Learning Theoryand briefly discuss its history as well as its prominent
figures, components, and implications in regard to language and literacy both inside and outside of
the classroom.
In 1954 Julian B. Rotter developed the Social Learning Theory that gravitated away from Freud s
psychoanalysis and Skinner s behaviorism that focused on behavior rather than intrinsic thought.
They were the most popular theories during that time, focusing on experimental methods,
emphasizing variables that are observable, measurable, and manipulatable, avoiding whatever is
subjective, internal,

Although during World War II, a strong case of bystanders is seen, there were also cases of
rescuers who came to the aid of the innocent victims. The rescuers saved thousands of innocent
lives, however in total their number was minute compared to the millions of people who died.
Rescuers ranged from people such as nannies and peasants, to doctors, police officers, and social
workers. They came from nations such as Ukraine, Poland, Germany, France, Hungary, Denmark,
Italy, Greece, Belgium, etc. They decided to not view the Jews as rivals, or to alienate them, but
instead to stand up for them and view them as human beings. Rescuers strongly believed that one

There are numerous disabilities that exist in the world today that can affect people s physical or
mental ability which can be taken care of through rehabilitation or medication. Despite science
and psychology s progress at providing more help for people with disabilities, they are still at risk
for discrimination and segregation in society. Even regardless of the societal barriers that exist
against people with disabilities, environmental barriers such as stairs or lack of transportation can
greatly limit a person with disabilities access to the world. These obstacles exist in Hong Kong and

Art or art therapy has the power to help people in general in terms of expression and combating
depression. This is due to the fact that it is a way for people to express themselves when they
are unhappy in a less direct and creative manner that allows them to experience a sort of release
of negative emotions. The creative process of art itself is unlimited and vast. Its ideology is
solely based on self expression, which is free and unrestricting. Moreover, artistic communities
tend to be less judgmental on whether the art itself is right or wrong (Zahovaeva, 2014). Thus, it
can be seen that these are good reasons why a person with disabilities might want to join the artistic
sphere. Scientific research has shown that art does have meditative effects where it renders stress to
relaxation in a person s physiology. In different researches, changes in brain wave patterns,
autonomic nervous system, hormonal balance and brain neurotransmitter have occurred as a result
of listening to music (Zahovaeva, 2014). Art in medicine is not a new concept, ancient rites of
healing were performed hand in hand with music, dance and drama to emphasize the healing
process (Zahovaeva, 2014). Within the context of disability studies, this proves to be greatly
advantageous because art is both beneficial in terms of its ability to affect psychological as well as
physiological side of people. Rubinstein, a Russian psychologist, claimed that

Some tree species were only prevalent at the perennial site compared to the non perennial site.
Higher abundance on cottonwoods could reflect their deeper rooting systems and thus more
reliable water resources. A study conducted on Pacific Northwest Trees showed that the larger
trees were reliant on greater amounts of stored water for higher levels of photosynthesis,
furthermore there were different percentages of water use per tree species (Phillips, 2003). This
supports our findings as some tree species were host to more mistletoe than others. This may due
to the different amount of water the trees absorb and use. Larger trees such as Populus fremontii.
Tree specific factors may affect susceptibility as well. Sycamores are proposed to have defenses
that form physical/chemical barriers prevent colonization parasites, this may explain why we saw
little to no mistletoe on Planatus wrightii s at either site (Grime and Pearce 1995). Furthermore

Explain The Role Of Mitochondria In The Cell
1.What is the function of mitochondria in the cell?
Mitochondria convert the chemical energy stored in food into compounds that are more convenient
for the cell to use. They are the power plants of the cell.
Do plants and animal cells have mitochondria?
Yes, both plan and animal cellshave mitochondria. They are similar because they are both
eukaroyotic cells, which means they have several features in common; cell membrane, cell
organelles, nucleus, mitochondria, and endoplasmic reticulum.
From where are mitochondria inherited?
In humans, our mitochondria come from the cytoplasm of the ovum, or egg cell. Unlike nuclear
DNA, which comes from both parents, mitochondrial comes only from our mother. We inherit our

The Merchant of Venice Essay
In the comedy, The Merchant of Venice, the roles and responsibilities of women is a significant
social issue proposed by Shakespeare. This theme is communicated by the only three female
characters in the play: Nerissa, Portia and Jessica. For example, in Act 4 during the trial between
Antonio and Shylock, Portia and Nerissa disguise themselves as Balthasar and Bellario to free
their friend. However, Jessica also plays a minor role in portraying the independence of Jewish
women in a Christian and Elizabethan society, by successfully betraying her father, Shylock. These
characters portray Shakespeare s overall opinion on women, as well as a modern audience s view

The audience, as well as Bassanio, view Portia as a beautiful, immaculate, aristocratic and fair
lady. However after Act 5, Portia is nothing, but prejudicial and bigoted, as she is the cause of
Shylock s demise and claims that she used my [her] body to punish Bassanio for abusing her gift
of love: the ring. This is ironic, because Portia infringes her relationship with Bassanio by
inferring she has committed an affair, even though she herself accuses him of abusing her love
and power by losing the ring. This implies that relationships in Elizabethan society were corrupt
and fake, which allowed many women in particular to commit religious crimes against their
husbands. Furthermore, Shakespeare additionally uses the theme of deception to convey that
women are superior to men. This seen when Portia tells Nerissa that I [she] have work in hand
/ That you yet know of. We ll see our husbands/Before they think of us (3.4), as she wants to help
Bassanio and Gratiano save Antonio s life by disguising. In general, many Elizabethan playwrights
such as Twelfth Night and The Merry Wives of Windsor, allow the audience to understand the fact
that the position of women was such, so that they could not become active (3.4) in society. By
Portia and Nerissa dressing up as Balthasar and Bellario, this would give them temporary
masculinity and so, the ability to do things that normal social codes would not,

Reflection About Basketball
Setbacks are a natural part of life that, yet it seems like I have had more than my share. In my
short seventeen years of living, I have encountered more obstacles than most girls my age.
Though I have encountered multiple setbacks, I have never stopped reaching for my dream. Since
I was young, I ve had the desire to grow up and become a collegiate volleyballplayer. I was told by
numerous coaches that I had a natural talent, things came easy to me. Though the game of
volleyball came easy to me, the obstacles I have faced throughout my career were not easy. I have
been through countless injurieswhich led to multiple seasons sitting out. I have battled the adversity
that has come my way, I have never backed down, my dream remains the same.
The game of volleyball has been a part of my life since the fourth grade. At a young age, I was
playing at elite levels which challenged my growth on and off the court early. Learning to love
the challenge was something that constantly pushed me to be better. Competing at this level
sparked my desire to achieve a collegiate level. The volleyball court is a place where I have always
found my comfort and my confidence. It is a place where I could go to find myself, no matter
what was going on in my life. Injury began to fill my career on the court, which challenged my
passion that was deeply rooted in my heart.

Faith represents more than hope or comfort but helps us believe in things we can not see. Faith

Afghanistan Culture Vs American Culture Essay
Afghanistan has gone through centuries of turmoil, being controlled by different groups throughout
its entire history. Starting with Indo Europeans, to Persians, and Greek power with Alexander the
Great in the 4th century BC. India then had an influence, and in the 7th century the Islamic empire
came to power. The European Dark Ages was the time of the Mongol Khanates in Afghanistan

most of Afghanistan in the Persian Ilkhanate, and the northeastern peninsula in the Chagatai
Khanate. This is where the Hazara ethnicity is believed to have originated (GALE|CX183...),

Afghanistan s cuisine, ethnic composition, native dress, religious and ceremonial traditions, as
well as interpersonal relations and folklore are all prime examples of this cultural
richness(GALE|CX183...). Amir s name is itself an example, in Hebrew meaning branch (Name,
Meaning, and Biblical Context of Amir), and in Arabic meaning ruler or prince (Amir). Their food
is a distinct melange of Indian, Chinese, Persian, and Middle Eastern elements, with naan at every
meal, and a mild palate of spices(GALE|CX340...). Clothing is much the same cultural melange.
Men wear turbans, which are present in both Indian and Islamic culture, and women wear chadris
or simply a dress with trousers and a shawl over their head, again mirroring the dress of the Middle
East and India(GALE|CX183...). However, the mixture of influences defining the culture here

Finding Deep Meaning Of Film
Finding Deep Meaning in Film As was demonstrated in my analysis of Uys (1980) film, the
techniques used for biblical interpretation may be used not merely for biblical interpretation or as a
means to read literature as an example of the modern parable. These techniques may also be used to
the interpretation of film as a medium of communication. Rosenberg, Lucchesi, Boardman, Vinson,
Flynn, and Derrickson s (2005), The exorcism of Emily Rose, provides a wonderful platform for
examining these techniques as it is fraught with meaning, should the viewer take time to peel back

There are many theological themes that flow from the basic narrative if one takes time to consider
them. Beyond the question of the cause of Emily s death, one finds themes that relate to faith and
rational thought, the existence of God and demons, the relationship between faith and science,
suffering and faith, compassion and pain, and submission to a higher authority. While I will not
take the time to delve into each one of these themes independently, I will select a few that are the
most critical to this author. The first theme that becomes apparent is an overt attack on religion.
Early on in the film, we find a group of lawyers talking about who will prosecute the case. It is
stated that, We need a Christian on this, preferably a Catholic. Someone who knows this stuff
inside and out, and who the public will see as unbiased. We re going after a holy man here
(Rosenberg et al, 2005). It was not merely about identifying a prosecutor who was capable, but one
who took attack the faith and discredit the exorcism rite. The courtroom attacks on Father Moore
continue in this vain claiming that his views were based upon, archaic and irrational superstition
(Rosenberg et al, 2005). The Christian faith is depicted as the product of fiction; because it cannot
be rationalized. A second theme that flows from the film is the question of the existence of God
and demons. Peter Chattaway (n.d.),

In the words of Former Attorney General of the United States, Loretta Lynch, This country was
founded on a promise of equal rights for all, and we have always managed to move closer to that
promise, little by little, one day at a time. It may not be easy but we ll get there together. Rosa

her generation, but also future societies. Throughout Rosa s journey, she mirrors the image of the

The Importance Of Self Assessment
I was able to take three assessments that were able to tell me about my interests, skills, possible
jobs and education degrees that I could potentially pursue. The names of the three assessments are
the: Strong Interest Inventory, Myers Briggs Type Indicator and StrenghtsQuest. I m going to take a
look at my results for each assessment and compare the similarities as well as the contrast. The
highest themes that were measured for me in the Strong Interest Inventorywere the: Enterprising,
Conventional and Artistic. It s broken down into four categories which are Interests, work activities,
potential skills and values. For Enterprising, I felt that all four categories sum up me. The
assessment picked up on my leadership quality, ability to motivate and direct others.
The conventional theme did pick up that I have values of accuracy, stability, efficiency and paying
attention to details. It also said that I m interested in organization and setting up procedures which
is very true. That s thing at my current job that bothers me the most. The one thing I didn t agree
with is that I m in record keeping and I m not the best at that.
The Artistic theme was spot on as far as my interests and values. My interests were self expression,
art appreciation, communication and culture. The values were beauty, originality, independence
and imagination. I definitely view the world in color when dealing with most situations. There was

How Is Bilbo A Hero
Many authors communicate to the reader through fictional stories known as myths. These myths,
set in a fictional place or time, are able to identify problems with society today. The popular
novel The Hobbit is a great example of a myth criticizing society today. Although it takes place in
a fantasy land and has creatures that do not exist, it criticizes how we as humans should live our
lives as well as telling us what it means to be a hero. The Hobbittells us that we should take risks
and experience new paths to make us have a better character. A hobbitis a peaceful creature that
likes to live in holes in the ground; not dirty ones, but clean and organized ones. Bilbo was a
common hobbit from the Bagginses family. People considered... Show more content on

One specific instance is when he meets the trolls. Bilbo is referred to as the burglar . Since
Bilbo is the burglar, he must go and pickpocket the trolls. He is extremely cautious on how he
goes about it because he has never done any task like this before; however, he does end up
getting caught. And when he gets caught, he is afraid. When asked who he was, Bilbo replied,
shaking all over, and wondering how to make owl noises before they throttled him (pg. 34) .
Having never experienced this kind of event before, it was no surprise he was scared. Bilbo was
able to talk his way out, although he was scared the whole time. A little while later, Bilbo is in
the caves by the goblins where he gets trapped and lost in the dark cavern. He was approached by a
small, creepy creature called Gollum, but this time he was not as scared as before. Bilbo was still
a little frightened for when he heard Gollum, for, The hobbit nearly jumped out of his skin (pg.
69). Bilbo did pull a sword on him, but instead sheathed it shortly after. He exchanged riddles
with Gollum to survive, and was able think clearly because he was not as afraid as he was
before. This was the first challenge Bilbo had stood up to meet. The two events show how Bilbo
is starting to gain more confidence and have more bravery. The instance with the trolls had Bilbo
acting afraid, but when faced with Gollum, he was able to be brave to think and talk his

Technology Has Great Potential For Improving Animal...
Biosensor technology has great potential for improving animal welfare, health and production
efficiency. The recent increasing incidence of diseases, such as bovine spongiform encephalopathy
(BSE), tuberculosis, brucellosis, mastitis, and foot and mouth, has raised concern in the livestock
industry and in society. Infectious diseases of livestock have major implications not only in animal
welfare and production efficiency but also in human health, and food safety and quality.
Most biosensor developments have been in the biomedical field, where many in vivo applications
demand small sizes. But it is lacking adversely in the field of milking animals and other livestock.
The primary considerations of biosensors were the physical sensor design, fluid transport, optical
sensor configuration, fluid mixing, sampling of the raw milk, and automation. The ideal biosensor
would be a probe, similar to that found in a pH meter. Since the standard enzyme immunoassay
identification of progesterone (EIA) is currently performed and standardized using microtitre
plates. This technique was a starting point and need Ab raised against other innocent animals.
Therefore there is an urgent need for development of artificial and low cost recognition sites for
progesterone detection.
Progesterone is known as a hormone of pregnancy . As in cyclic non pregnant animal, the
progesterone level in plasma and milk decreases during follicular phase, which usually commences

Passion Versus Moral Duty Illustrated in Thomas Hardy s...
Conflict between a character s intense passions and their moral duties is commonly expressed in
literature. Thomas Hardy s Jude the Obscure undoubtedly uses this theme throughout the novel.
Hardy creates two characters who are undeniably in love, however, they are forced to hide their
great passions for one another for they both are married to someone else. These intimate feelings
drive to two lovers, Jude and Sue, to neglect their commitments to their spouses and aspirations as
they attempt to establish a life together. The intimacy between the couple would slowly devour
their personal lives. Jude, the man in the relationship, had exceptionally high hopes for himself as a
young boy. He desired nothing else but to go to school, to... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

In addition, Jude s passions for Sue lead him to disregard one other large component of his life, his
eccentric wife Arabella. Although, Jude had previously made this permanent covenant with another
woman, he could not help but dream of one day marrying Sue. Likewise, Sue was already involved
with an old schoolteacher named Phillotson. Sue was not especially fond of him but marriage is
marriage and she nevertheless made the ultimate commitment to him. However, as unavailable
as the two lovers were, they continued to nourish their fiery feelings. Torn between the man she
loved and her social responsibilities as a wife, Sue was at a loss of what to do. She knew the
lady society expected her to be, but she could never fully bring herself to accept such an
unfulfilling life. Therefore, after months of torturing herself in a miserable marriage, Sue
succumbed to her true feelings and left Phillotson to be with Jude. Jude, as well, had decided to
divorce his wife in order to properly be with Sue but with much less debate and toil than Sue when
making her decision. Despite their undying affection for one another, their decisions to disregard
their marital commitments to their previous spouses were selfish and unforgiving. The universe
simply would not allow Sue and Jude to go unpunished for their sin. Society constantly rejected
their unlawful relationship and

This important muscle is used to pump and create pressure to circulate blood throughout our bodies2. It is important for our heart to properly function because it helps blood deliver important nutrients and oxygen to the rest of our body. • 5. Analysis Of Oliver Twist, A Christmas Carol, And A Tale Of... Oliver s Twisted Story In February of 1837, Charles Dickens s first installment of Oliver Twist was published. These installments continued to be published monthly until April of 1839. London during this time period was split almost directly down the middle, the upper class and the lower class, the middle being almost nonexistent. In the nineteenth century, the English government was ran adjacent with the church, although the harsh truth of lower class cruelty corrupts this image. The country, despite its relationship with the church, did not run on the concept of Christianity but the warped perceptions of the Bible and the desire for money. Charles Dickenss Oliver Twist unknowingly sparked the social changes in nineteenth century London by exposing the harsh conditions of the lower class through the life of an innocent child. Charles Dickens, born February 7, 1812, wrote many classic novels including Oliver Twist, A Christmas Carol, and A Tale of Two Cities. Dickens grew up in a lower class family, because of that his father, John Dickens, was arrested and put in jail for debt when Charles was twelve years old. Soon after this, Dickens had to stop school and go into work at Warren s Blacking Factory, a shoe polish factory (Cody). By the time his father was released and Dickens was able to leave the factory, he had already suffered through many harsh conditions that affected him for the rest of his life. The Golden Age Of Discovery The Golden Age begins in 1415 and ends in 1578 (Kreis, 2011, para 4).The Golden Age is also referred to as the Age of Discovery (Kreis, 2011, para 4).This age of discovery was entailed in exploring the coast of Africa (Bamber, 2001, para 6). A sailing school was established in Sagres which promoted more expeditions, which led to exploring multiple islands and made expansions of Portugal s empire possible (Bamber, 2001, para 6). Maybe more of us, a thousand strong, will reach this goal before too long (VolavkovГЎ, 1994, p. 50). The Jews were transported, either by trains or trucks to six camps; Poland, Chelmno, Treblinka, Sobibor, Belzec, Auschwitz Birkenau, and Majdanek Lublin. These camps were called extermination camps. When you are out shopping though, do you ever stop to think where all of those clothes and shoes come from? When I was younger, well, actually until recently, I always thought they were all made by machines. Shirt machines, pants machines amp;#8230;you get the picture. I have learned, however, that for the most part, clothes are still made on sewing machines, by people, and often under circumstances that we can only imagine. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In some cases, I ve learned, with brute force. On August 2, 1995, the Department of Labor raided a factory in El Monte, California. There they found 72 garment workers, mostly Thai and Mexican immigrants, being forced to work 17 hours a day at wages between $.60 and $1.60 and hour. They were literally held captive at the factory by barbwire and armed guards. Employees were threatened with rape and violence if they attempted escape. The El Monte sweatshop was finally discovered when an employee escaped through a ventilation shaft. In many sweatshops, however, the workers are there voluntarily. Even the meager wages earned are more than the undocumented immigrants workers would earn in their home countries. As long as there is a supply of willing workers, sweatshops will flourish. So what can be done? How can the sweatshop problem in the United States be resolved? Is there even a plausible solution? Through my research for this speech I have discovered that everyone seems to have a solution, yet putting the solutions into action is another thing altogether. Of the many solutions to the problem, the main, and most obvious solution, is government regulation. • 9. American Indian Religious Freedom Act Prior to the Second World War, religious places remained untouched as they were mainly located in rural areas. However, the period after the Second World War was characterized by an increase in population, corporate farming, a more vibrant timber industry as well as an expanded recreational industry. This change resulted in less respect for the public land, and the situation was made worse by the proliferation of state and federal agencies that have no respect for the public land. It thus becomes difficult for the Native Indians to have access to shrines as the politicians promulgated rules that disregarded public land particularly places of worship. One such narrow minded law that has failed to achieve its ultimate goal is the American Indian Religious Freedom Act that was enacted in 1978. The law made it clear the government efforts of protecting the religious rights of the American Indians not only to express their belief but also to practice this believes through traditional religion. However, this law faced major blows especially on the corridors of justice where the Court viewed the Congress action in enacting the American Indian Religious Freedom Act as efforts of the government to establish a state religion. Instead of the government respecting the right of the Indians to maintain their religious places, it invokes its power as the custodian of the public land by claiming that it has the mandate of utilizing any piece of public land for the benefit of the entire ... In this paper I wrote, I think we spend too much time contemplative on the undesirable certainties of our past and we become so blinded by all the good things that are happening around us. The song Eternal Sunshine is written by JhenГЁ Aiko; in this song she reaches out for something more intimate like disturbing memories hidden deep within her mind. This specific music video takes you through a series of events from JhenГЁ s past, stressing the presence of thoughts we put aside when surrounded by people, things we only think about when we are in a dark place in life, and concealed in eternal thoughts. • 16. The Rule Of The Us Constitution The words democracy and republicanism are words most commonly used, but often misunderstood. The Father of the US Constitution, James Madison, has been an eye opener for many who are still uncertain of what the words mean. When we think of the term democracy and republicanism, we automatically make an assumption that reflects on politics, power, voting, elections and parliaments. Madison, however; focused more on liberty, freedom, and what is right for the people. Simultaneously, he felt as if the people should choose who represents them and will make decisions on the issues based on what the people saw fit for their needs. In contrary to what Madison believe, he recognized that tyranny for majorities is a major threat to freedom. Therefore, a republicanism can be interpreted as a country owned by its people rather than by a monarch. Democracy, however; is the rule of the people, according to Madison. It is understood that representatives in a democracy is supposed to be balanced rather than unsteady. It is accurate that we do not govern by pure majority rule, because people within the governmentsystem simply do not understand the issues. In some form or another, there will be protection for minorities within their rules and laws and even with the substantial powers afforded to majorities in Parliament. In 1942, Spaak presented her assistance to the underground National Movement Against Racism (MNCR). Spaak did not flinch from any task; she went all over Paris to discover a hospital eager to accept ill Jews hiding under artificial names. When needed, she used her high social standing and knocked on the doors of clerics, judges, and authors, reminding them of their duty to act against harassment of Jews and opponents of the regime. In other cases, Spaak performed as a simple underground worker and typed and distributed flyers. The Gestapo discovered her in October of 1943; she was then arrested and taken to the prison in Fresnes. Nevertheless, before she was imprisoned, she gave the lists of Jewish children and their addresses to an underground acquaintance, thus saving the children. There are numerous disabilities that exist in the world today that can affect people s physical or mental ability which can be taken care of through rehabilitation or medication. Despite science and psychology s progress at providing more help for people with disabilities, they are still at risk for discrimination and segregation in society. Even regardless of the societal barriers that exist against people with disabilities, environmental barriers such as stairs or lack of transportation can greatly limit a person with disabilities access to the world. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Art or art therapy has the power to help people in general in terms of expression and combating depression. This is due to the fact that it is a way for people to express themselves when they are unhappy in a less direct and creative manner that allows them to experience a sort of release of negative emotions. The creative process of art itself is unlimited and vast. Its ideology is solely based on self expression, which is free and unrestricting. Moreover, artistic communities tend to be less judgmental on whether the art itself is right or wrong (Zahovaeva, 2014). Thus, it can be seen that these are good reasons why a person with disabilities might want to join the artistic sphere. Scientific research has shown that art does have meditative effects where it renders stress to relaxation in a person s physiology. In different researches, changes in brain wave patterns, autonomic nervous system, hormonal balance and brain neurotransmitter have occurred as a result of listening to music (Zahovaeva, 2014). Art in medicine is not a new concept, ancient rites of healing were performed hand in hand with music, dance and drama to emphasize the healing process (Zahovaeva, 2014). Within the context of disability studies, this proves to be greatly advantageous because art is both beneficial in terms of its ability to affect psychological as well as physiological side of people. • 32. The Merchant of Venice Essay In the comedy, The Merchant of Venice, the roles and responsibilities of women is a significant social issue proposed by Shakespeare. This theme is communicated by the only three female characters in the play: Nerissa, Portia and Jessica. For example, in Act 4 during the trial between Antonio and Shylock, Portia and Nerissa disguise themselves as Balthasar and Bellario to free their friend. However, Jessica also plays a minor role in portraying the independence of Jewish women in a Christian and Elizabethan society, by successfully betraying her father, Shylock. However after Act 5, Portia is nothing, but prejudicial and bigoted, as she is the cause of Shylock s demise and claims that she used my [her] body to punish Bassanio for abusing her gift of love: the ring. This is ironic, because Portia infringes her relationship with Bassanio by inferring she has committed an affair, even though she herself accuses him of abusing her love and power by losing the ring. This implies that relationships in Elizabethan society were corrupt and fake, which allowed many women in particular to commit religious crimes against their husbands. Furthermore, Shakespeare additionally uses the theme of deception to convey that women are superior to men. This seen when Portia tells Nerissa that I [she] have work in hand / That you yet know of. Beyond the question of the cause of Emily s death, one finds themes that relate to faith and rational thought, the existence of God and demons, the relationship between faith and science, suffering and faith, compassion and pain, and submission to a higher authority. While I will not take the time to delve into each one of these themes independently, I will select a few that are the most critical to this author. The first theme that becomes apparent is an overt attack on religion. Early on in the film, we find a group of lawyers talking about who will prosecute the case. It is stated that, We need a Christian on this, preferably a Catholic. Someone who knows this stuff inside and out, and who the public will see as unbiased. We re going after a holy man here (Rosenberg et al, 2005). It was not merely about identifying a prosecutor who was capable, but one who took attack the faith and discredit the exorcism rite. The courtroom attacks on Father Moore continue in this vain claiming that his views were based upon, archaic and irrational superstition (Rosenberg et al, 2005).
