[TSUNAMI]
A “Tsunami” is a Japanese word which means harbor
waves. It is also known as a seismic sea wave , meteorite
impact or a tidal wave. It can also be defined as a long,
high sea wave caused by an under water earthquake,
volcanic eruptions or landslides. In simple language, it is
a series of waves caused by displacement of a large
volume of water, usually in an ocean.
[CAUSES OF TSUNAMIS]
UNDERWATER EARTHQUAKES
UNDERWATER EXPLOSIONS
VOLCANIC ERUPTIONS
METEORITE IMPACTS
LANDSLIDES
[FORMATION OF A TSUNAMI]
[SIZE OF A TSUNAMI]
A tsunami has an extremely long wavelength of
several hundred miles long. The period between
waves in deep water is also very long -- about an
hour. In deep sea, the height of a tsunami wave can
be very small of about 1m. This makes a tsunami
very difficult to detect in deep sea.
[SPEED OF A TSUNAMI]
Tsunamis can travel at a speed of 970
kilometer per hour in open ocean as the speed
of jet flies.. A regular wave can travel at a
speed of about 90 kilometer per hour.
[WARNING SIGNS OF A TSUNAMI]
An earthquake is a natural warning sign for a tsunami.
An approaching tsunami is sometimes preceded by
noticeable rise and fall in water.
During a tsunami, the sea starts to form whirlpools and also
starts foaming.
The sea also rise slowly during a tsunami and the sea starts
bubbling.
[MAN VS. BEAST]
It is believed that animal posses sixth sense with the help of
which a many animal escaped from the tsunamis and only a few
were found to be dead and in case of people it was......
According to eye witnesses accounts, elephants screamed and
ran for higher ground, dogs refused to go outdoors, flamingoes
abandoned their low lying breeding areas and zoo animals
rushed into their shelters and could not be enticed to come out.
[DO’S AND DON'TS]
 If you are in a dangerous area, immediately
turn off the water, gas, and electricity and
quickly move to a higher ground. .
 We should stay far from sea beach
 After a tsunami has hit, all food and water
should be tested for contamination before
they are eaten.
X Do not return to low-lying areas until the
tsunami threat has passed and the "all clear"
is announced.
X Don’t stay near the sea beach
X Don’t stay inside a vehicle. Stop the vehicle
taking care to be well away from the coast
and in an area clear of trees, power lines
and water courses.
