Literary Analysis Of The Searchers( 1956 ) And Taxi Driver
The term genre is referenced frequently when describing film, literature, music, and other mediums of
artistry, and yet attempting to define the term itself is difficult. Genre studies are rife with uncertainty
and conflicting opinions on how best to define and research genre. Some theorists opt for a semantic
approach, a broader categorization a genre that encompasses a large number of films, the building
blocks of which are commonplace across that genre. In contrast to the semantic theorists, some prefer
a syntactic approach, isolating select films which most ideally represent the themes and structural
conventions of that genre. There exists a third interpretation, a semantic/syntactic approach, which
takes into consideration all ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Also present throughout the genre is the continual search for a national identity in a landscape of
drastic change. This includes an attempt to overcome dialectical and communicative problems at the
core of American society. These are conventions included in the genre s syntax, and they accompany a
Bundle of Oppositions which often play a key role in a character s motivation and the plot of the
Western film itself. These divergent concepts include: purity v. corruption , self knowledge v. illusion ,
savagery v. humanity , and brutalization v. refinement . Apart from the aforementioned syntactical
conventions of the genre, the semantics of the Western are easily spotted and used in the vast majority
of classical Western films. These more noticeable characteristics include the setting of the legendary
Western frontier, guns and gun battles, violence, horses, and stock characters. One of these archetypal
characters is the Frontier Hero , a character identified with the landscape of the west, and whose
purpose in the film is to purge that landscape of obstacles in the way of its development. Also included
in this generic cast of the Western are the tough/soft Cowboy , the savage Indian , the strong but
tender woman , the out of touch antihero , and the lonely sheriff . These semantics are commonplace
in many archaic westerns, and yet their prominence has faded as time passes.* The Searchers is a
classical Western to the extreme, embodying

What Is The Myth Of Sisyphus
The bus was silent, no one daring to speak. We had just suffered the first loss in more than 10 years to
one of the competing schools to make it to the state tournament for tennis. This bus ride home from
the tournament in Green Bay gave me sufficient time to reflect on my matches and on the sport as a
whole.
Tennis is a sport of repetition. You play points over and over again until a match is complete, matches
until a tournament is complete, and then the whole process repeats a couple weeks later. This
reminded me of the myth of Sisyphus. Sisyphus was a kind who upon his death was tasked with
rolling a boulder up a hill. However, as soon as he pushed the stone to the top it rolled back down to
the bottom and he had to start again. While this is seen as a punishment in the myth I see it as a
blessing. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In playing tennis I am essentially Sisyphus, repeating the same process over and over for hours and
then doing it again. This is a blessing because we have the free will to associate value to something
inherently valueless and put effort and time into it to make ourselves better. So by giving Sisyphus this
task to repeat endlessly for eternity, they actually blessed him by giving him something to attach
meaning to. In the same way tennis gives me something to attach meaning to and better myself
through a game that will not improve me academically or as a person. Tennis has given me something
to work and improve at and attach meaning to which fulfills me. I have tasked myself with the
unachievable goal of perfection and it has brought me more happiness and achievement than almost
anything else in my

collected from patients with watery diarrhea aged (from 1 to gt;60 years) prior administration to
antimicrobial agents who were referred to Central Health Laboratory in Najaf. This study found that
27 isolate of Vibrio cholerae 23(52.3%) male and 21 (47.7%) female. Regarding to the serotyping of
V. cholerae this study found that all isolates have only Inaba serotype. The virulence factors were
detected in all isolates was produce β hemolysis on blood agar. The highest one appeared at the (11 20
and 21 30) years age group with 29.6%, followed by others at age groups ( gt;60) years and (41 50)
years with 11.1%. The low isolation frequency was recorded at (51 60) years in a percent 3.7%. The
results of this test showed that V. cholerae has a great resistance to most commonly antibiotics used in
hospitals, V. cholerae showed different susceptibility towards antibiotics used in this study. The
highest rate of resistance is seen with ampicillin 100%, nalidixic acid 89% and ciftazidime 85% and

Ancient Greek Mountains
The ancient Greeks had one of the most interesting geography of any ancient civilization. With
mountains covering three fourths of ancient Greece, and their only way to efficiently travel was by
sea, it brought many interesting scenarios. Overall, the geography of ancient Greece gave the Greeks
many hardships, but allowed them to survive through ancient times.
The mountains made it difficult to trade and communicate through land (Geography Shapes Greek
Life). With mountains covering most of the land, it divided ancient Greece into smaller city states.
Because of that, it took weeks to travel from place to place, thus limiting trade and communication.
With the lack of trade and communication, it was difficult for ancient Greece to

Roman And Han Attitudes Toward Technology
Roman and Han attitudes towards technology is that it should be used for public works but they also
had two different point of views on how to utilize these advancements in their society. While the Han
thought that technology should better benefit the working class, the Romans held that attitude that
technology shouldn t be utilized at all for labor.
Han and Rome both believed that technology should be utilized for public works as seen in documents
1,6,and 8. In doc. 1, the Han request the establishment of water conservation offices in each district to

quality and slowly became scarce due to the increase in price and many common people could no

in order to carry on their jobs efficiently and produce better results. Doc. 3 tells the story of a mythical
emperor who had invented a mortar and pestle paired with water and animal power and the benefit

their labors and would do anything with their technology to increase its productivity. Doc. 4 states that

My Last Duchess And Porphyria s Love Analysis
True Love
(A Discussion on Robert Browning s My Last Duchess and Porphyria s Lover.)
Robert Browning wrote many amazing dramatic monologues during his time in the 1800 s. The
English poet Robert Browning (1812 1889) is best known for his dramatic monologues. By vividly
portraying a central character against a social background, these poems probed complex human
motives in a variety of historical periods (Gale). Browning was super influential with his monologues
during the Victorian period and even still today. Several of Browning s work are about love. Two of
his most notable love monologues was My Last Duchess and Porphyria s Lover. Browning s two
monologues My Last Duchess and Porphyria s lover share several similarities, but also differ severely.
In Browning s readings My last Duchess and Porphyria s Lover share several similarities. Both the
men in these monologues kill the women they are supposed to love. The main part of these
monologues is the men killing their wives. Both kill their wives because they are both jealous men,
who want complete control over the woman. They feel as if the women should be their property, and
only theirs. Another Similarity of these monologues is they are wrote in the man s point of view, and
not the women. Both poems show a similarity because they are both narrated from the male lover s
point of view. As a result, the reader becomes more closely involved in the poems and can feel very
strong emotions for the individuals

The Change Of English Language
Language is not consistent, it is changing by its nature, either because of innovation, technology, war
or someone s mistakes. English has developed over more than 1500 years since Anglo Saxon invasion
in AD 450 as they brought a set of Anglo Frisian (Anglo German) dialect, which became known as
Old English. This time was the beginning of the development of English language.
The change of English language is divided into four phases: Old English, Middle English, Early
Modern English and Late Modern English. The period of Old English was roughly between 400 and
1100. It was the time when English developed from Latin as it borrowed many words via church. At
that time the language was also largely affected by Scandinavians after invasion and ... Show more

Sometimes, some words fall out of usage and replaced by other for example vinyl is replaced by
M.P.3. All of this is explained by the functional theory, which suggests language always changes and
adapts to the needs of its users. So, people create new words when they need them.
On another hand, words can be created by accident. In 1958, Charles Hockett came up with theory
that shows that random errors and event have an influence on language change. For example,
predictive text messaging is the one example of random fluctuation. Again the language is affected by
technology change and development, today s phones will estimate what word one is writing and finish
it or it can correct any spelling mistakes one have made. Modern phones would automatically add an
apostrophe in its no matter whether it is an adjective or short form for it is or it has . Thus the theory
shows that society s mistakes could also influence the language change.
Another theory that describes how and why new word enter English language is S Curve Model,
which is base on the idea that language change can occur at slower pace then it increases speed as it
becomes wore accepted, therefore creating curve resembling letter S . The model is based on Chen s
idea. For example slang tends to spread in particular way, first when the new slang term appears it will
be used by the smallest group of people and then it might be picked up by

The Musculoskeletal System Of The Human Body
Not only are there damages to the immune system of the human body, but the musculoskeletal system
is also at a very large risk for injury, even from the seat of a chair. German Researcher, T. Hettinger,
analyzed statistics on sick leave and found that musculoskeletal problems among administrative
workers were higher than in any other industrial sector, and similar to those in construction, metal
industry and transport (Cranz, 2000, p. 98). This is saying that people who are working office jobs,
which mainly comprise of sitting for extended periods of time compared to industrial jobs (heavy
labor), consist of a similar amount of people taking sick days due to injuries to their muscular system.

squatting to use the restroom, sleeping on the floor). It was revealed in the 6 month follow up period
that fall rates were nearly 4 fold higher in the American than in the Japanese residents (Lipsitz et al.,
1994, p. 957). This shows the negative effect that sitting has on human behavior cross culturally by
comparing the lifestyles of societies whose people are deskbound to ones that are not. When cultures
such as the Japanese perform tasks such as squatting to use the toilet, or to stand up from a bed that is
on the floor (not elevated) requires a full range of motion. This full range of motion is lost when
humans sit in an unnatural state for a majority of their day, and makes aging an accelerated process. It
s known that sitting and rising from the floor is a basic functional process integrated into all human
movement patters, and when one loses the ability to perform this action, they lose their livelihood.
Performing this action requires proper posture, flexibility and muscle strength, which are all weakened
by being deskbound and the sedentary lifestyle. A Brazilian study created a sitting to rising test (SRT)
to judge whether or not functional capabilities, such as getting up off the floor with little

What Is The Theme Of The Green Mile
Stephen King and his story, the green mile
Stephen King is a world known author who writes horror/psychological fiction. As a boy, he was
interested in horror books. He wrote some stories himself, just for fun, and he never stopped. In 1996
he published the green mile, (a movie was made later on).
The story is about the John Coffey and his execution in E block at Cold Mountain State Penitentiary.
Hal Moores is the warden of the penitentiary, his wife is very sick. Paul Edgecomb is the head of E
block and a friend of Moores. E block is where they keep the death row prisoners and perform capital
punishment. One day Paul receives a prisoner who supposedly raped and killed two young farm girls.

and murdered a young girl, started a fire to cover it up, which resulted in multiple deaths. Before
Percy ruined his execution Paul and Brutus had promised to take care of Mr. Jingles.
John Coffey was convicted of the rape and murder of two tiny farm girls. He is as big as a giant, but
he isn t scary. Unexpectedly the man is scared of the dark and holds magical powers. He makes many
friends on E block, they are fascinated by his magic and kindness. John gave some of his magic to
Paul and Mr. Jingles causing them both to live an unnaturally long life. At his execution Paul shook
his hand one last time.
The first and most noticeable difference between the movie and book is how the story is told. At the
nursing home Paul has a friend, Elaine. In the movie he tells her what happened because it upset him.
While in the book he writes the story and lets her read it. The book often comes back to the elderly
Paul and sees how he s doing, in the movie we only see him in the beginning and the end.
For some reason the directors of the movie decided to leave out Janet s death. I think that part was
very important and it helped us understand what Paul has to go through with his long life

Why is tap water so bad for your skin?
A huge percentage of the UK has hard water which means the majority of the population have to face
the cold hard truth of it: we re actually covering ourselves in soap scum. The soap scum then clogs our
pores each time we use it and contributes to breakouts. The big problem with hard water is the fact
that it has such a high mineral content which stops it from reacting with soap normally. Instead, it
triggers a lather and creates a soapy layer upon the skin. This not only leads to very clogged pores but
also irritates the skin too making it itchy, dry and sometimes flaky. Dr Dennis Gross from the U.S had
this to say, These impurities in water make it difficult for soap and shampoo to wash off, leading to
dryness of the skin and scalp, which directly irritate the skin and cause redness and rosacea.
On top of this, there are also very strong correlations between hard water and skin disorders such as
eczema. This is due to the minerals such as calcium, which when found in particularly high
concentrations can cause a great loss of moisture to the skin and in turn lead to irritating conditions
like eczema. A recent study at the University of Nottingham found in over 7,500 children of school
age, conditions like eczema were becoming significantly more common for those within hard water
areas than those in soft water areas. Sadly, this isn t a matter of converting

The Myth Of Endometriosis In The Human Body
If one breaks down endometriosis, one will find that it means an abnormal condition of the lining
inside a uterus. Specifically, the tissue that is inside the uterus will form on an external structure. This
has unpleasant consequences when a tissue made for a certain region of the body is acting elsewhere.
This condition will mainly affect women and young ladies during their most reproductive years and
can affect them both physically and mentally (Reich et al., 2016). Even though most cases are, it is a
myth that endometriosis occurs exclusively in women over twenty years of age. This disease can
begin in a body as soon as the female obtains her first menstrual cycle and will unfortunately persist
over a lifetime in the body unless an act of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The basal layer of the endometrium produces the external functional layer, and if the basal layer is not
removed, then the disease will continue to grow back. This is why laparoscopic excision surgery is the
optimal treatment for endometriosis. This procedure will act to remove the deepest layer of the
endometrium like tissue. Reich et al. (2016) mentions that receiving a hysterectomy is not the best
way to get rid of this condition, even though a large majority of people have come to believe this is
true. As previously discussed, endometriosis can spread to areas other than reproductive organs, so
pain will persist even after removal of the entire uterus. Pain killers, oral contraceptives and IUDs are
common methods for pain treatment and slowing the disease. However, as soon as one is eligible for
the diagnosis of endometriosis, laparoscopic surgery to remove all layers of disease should be amongst
the top considerations to rid the body of this abnormality, for it has proven to be the most

Crime And Crime Prevention Programs
Introduction
Criminal activities will never completely end, owing to the human nature of wanting to defy law and
order. However, criminal activities can be mitigated. The history of crime is as old as the beginning of
life itself. In every generation of time, we learn of people who engaged in crimes against the law and
who were punished in accordance to law of the lands in which they lived. Today, methods of
mitigating crime have greatly improved, so has the methods of committing crime. It s a delicate game.
The reception of crime prevention programs has however been on the rise and people are beginning to
see the effect of these programs owing to many cases being solved and more criminals brought to
justice. Technology has had much to contribute to the emergence of programs that make it easier to
detect and mitigate criminal activities. Towards this regard, this paper develops a program that acts as
a proposal showing how criminal activities could be mitigated. The paper will investigate crime rates
in various states and offer a proposition on how these crimes could be minimized or done away with
altogether.
Jurisdiction of the proposal
The proposal outlined here will be applicable to a state or city. Larger forms of jurisdiction will not be
fully captured in this proposal. The proposal will mainly be focused on crime prevention measures but
it can canvass other modes of the crime prevention program. The adult justice system will be the
major point of focus in this

Malvolio Character Analysis
Malvolio
Malvolio is a minor character in twelfth night as he plays the role of Olivia s head servant and
steward. His humiliation makes his role in the play quite amusing with the Olivia, Viola (Cesario), and
Orsino love triangle, which as the play goes on, becomes more and more amusing and after a while,
you cannot help but feel bad for the poor person. His arrogant and selfish personality makes him an
amenity of sir toby, Sir Andrew and Maria who play a cruel trick on him, making him believe Olivia is
in love with him. He has a poor opinion of drinking, adding humor to this 1500 s comedy.
A delusional fool. When reading act two scene 5 Malvolio makes his love for Olivia clear when
reading the faked letter made by Maria, Sir Toby, and Sir Andrew made him. When reading it he
seems like more and more of an idiot. The first reason for this is M.O.A.I. For all these letters are in
my name however if he thought about this a bit more he could realize, if Olivia (the person he loves)
was sending a love later she would use his real name (Malvolio) instead of M.O.A.I. the second thing
is. Yes, the letters moai are in his name but there is zero evidence the letter was for him. Possibly
Olivia was actually sending a letter to moai, he is too full of himself to realize such a simple thing.
Sure the letter was meant for him but he should have sat down to re read it and really think about it, he

How The Transportation Is Effecting The City
Globally, cities are facing problems of the population is living over a greater distance and travelling
further and more often (). Oil consumption is increasing but the supply is not increasing. Local
governments are facing the issue of how do they plan a city that can accommodate these changes?
Four studies reviewed cities and how the transportation is effecting the city. The case study cities were
Christchurch, New Zealand and Minneapolis, United States of America. This cities are similar because
they both have large populations living in suburbs who have to travel long distances for work, school,
leisure, socialising and more. In both cities, cars are stilled the popular mode of transport. Transport
can have effects on the surrounding land but not all the time. People are traveling to work differently
to previous generations. All of these issues explain the situation of the transport systems in
Christchurch and Minneapolis.
One issues that was raised in the readings is that cars continue to be a popular choice for residents in
both cities. Previous studies have shown that cities with high density living, use less cars because most
people walk or catch a bus due to everything they need being so close to their home. This pattern is
not happening in the case studies. Cars are the preferred mode of transport even if the residents have
access to public transport. In Minneapolis, residents do not tend to use the rail networks. One reason is
because commercial activities tend

A Diverse Society Can Coexist Peacefully
In America, there are many different nationalities, cultures, beliefs, and values. This diversity is one
thing that makes America so attractive to outsiders. Along with the many benefits this diversity brings
to society, however, it also causes some challenges. Challenges such as a clash of cultural beliefs;
clashes of the way society should view its ethical obligations toward family and those they love. These
beliefs are definitely influenced by the culture people were raised in and the values inculcated into
them from youth. In an extremely diverse country, like the United States of America, this causes
trouble because these conflicts or clashes can create tense surroundings. Despite having many cultural
differences, society can ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
I loved my tía, but something told me to keep my mouth shut. Maybe it was family loyalty (Diaz 132).
Once again, it is the human tendency to remain loyal and protect our family members. If society takes
the values that are common to each culture, and then builds upon this stable foundation, then society
will benefit. Society would benefit because positive relationships are built off what people have in
common with one another. When different cultures in a society see how much they have in common
with one another, they will be more apt to cooperate. Another writer, Jane English, raised in the
American culture, highlights in her piece, What do Grown Children Owe their Parents , a belief that
many cultures around the world would agree with. This is the belief that when children grow up, they
should offer assistance and aid to their parents in any way possible when given the opportunity
(English 111 114). This is a form of Loyalty, but also stems from Love, and the importance of Family,
three of the values cherished in many cultures. No matter where a person is from, Jane English argues
that the relationship between children and their parents should be one of friendship characterized by
mutuality rather than one of reciprocal favors (English 113). In English s and Diaz s respective pieces,
they highlight three values, Love, Loyalty, and Family. Both of these completely different cultures
share these values, and really, they share it in common with many more

12 Angry Men Essay
12 Angry Men is a film about the dispute among the members of a jury on whether they should
convict a teenager of allegedly killing his own father. The jury argues over and over, creating a very
tense environment; whilst continuously switching positions on the issue. At the end of the movie, the
jury agrees that the boy is not guilty, due to various doubts. However, only one person remained
believing he is guilty all throughout the case. At the end of the movie we find out why this person had
such a strong belief that the boy was guilty, it was because the person had a bad relationship with his
own son and that influenced his beliefs on the case. For this reason, I liked the movie very much. I
liked that the movie started with the jury believing ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This scene was one of the first strong pieces of evidence in the boy s side, it was the scene about the
uniqueness of the knife. I remember this scene clearly because of the character s surprise of bringing a
knife that looked exactly like the one used in the murder, and the rest of the jury s dazzled reaction. In
this scene a character (member of the jury) asks to see the knife used in the murder, during a
discussion, in which the other members of the jury claimed that the boy was guilty because the a knife
the boy owned look exactly like the knife in the murder. This agreement was specially relevant to the
case because the knife had very unique designs and there were claims form knife sellers supporting
the unlikeness of there being two knives of the same appearance. However, the character (Henry
Fonda) in this scene does something pretty clever with this information beforehand. As during this
discussion he pulls out an exact looking knife to that one used in the murder and proceeds to stab it in
the table, in an assured manner. This scene is very interesting because of the characters preparedness
for proving his point, since he had bought that knife in the same area that the murder happened.
Additionally, what is more impressive were the emotions of the characters, since most were shocked
that he found that knife while others were outraged; but what s more intense is the character with the
knife confidence in which he drove that knife into the

In the US about 750,000 people are arrested each year for marijuana offenses.
In 2003, Canada became the first country in the world to offer medical marijuana to pain suffering

Essay On Student Loan Crisis
The student loan crisis is worse than ever and more people are leaving college thousands of dollars in
debt before they even have a job or any type of income. With the rising cost of college and living
expenses, people are taking out more student loans for higher amounts, leaving more people in an
undesirable amount of debt and essentially trapping them. There s currently no way to get rid of
federal student debt other than paying off the loans. (Quinton, Sophie, why you might be paying
student loans till you retire). Because student loans are not like other loans they will not disappear if
you declare bankruptcy, so the borrower is forced to pay them back even if it means you cannot afford
to do so. There is not just one thing that is causing the student loan crisis this is a combination of
many things that are being overlooked or ignored. We need to look into the reasoning to determine
why this is happening, what problems it is causing and then come up with a solution that can stop the
problem. Student loans are a great tool to use if you need financial help for college, but one must be
careful and consider the consequences and understand what a student loan is and how to deal with
them to make a responsible decision about their financial future. Before we can go any further, we
need to first define what exactly a student loan is, and what student loans can entail. A student loan is
defined as A type of loan designed to help students pay for post secondary education and the
associated fees . Student loans are marvelous and a supportive tool for college students, but people
don t realize that everything they borrow needs to be paid back with interest. Five years ago in 2012
71% of students graduating four year colleges had student loans and the average indebtedness of a
college graduate was $29,400 . If you compare that to 1993 the average indebtedness of a college
graduate was $9,450 (Average Student Loan Debt, 1993 2012). In only 19 years there was a $19,950
dollar difference in the averages. Those numbers do not include the interest that the student will have
to pay back over time. All of those factors are just a small part of what makes up student debt but it is
good to have a general

Vietnam War Story Analysis
The paper focuses on the on the input side of the Vietnam War Memory in Tim O Brien s on how to
tell a true war story. Ideally, the performance of the war is a representation of an important part of the
human life as he tries to work through the traumas of life as well as the creative process during the
occurrence of the war. The main question that is raised by the story is how the writer uses the
memories of the war as the primary tools of the actualization. The other matter which is posed in the
story is how can one achieve the suspense that is based on the detachment as well as why is it
imperative for the author to the author of the story to do that in a war related piece of work. The story
by O Brien shows that this can happen by the use of the per formative side of the war through three
important episodes that are based on the Vietnam Conflict. There is the Rat Kiley s letter, which was
written to the sister who is known by the name Lemon and who was his war friend after the death of
lemon. Additionally, the narrator is telling the story of Lemons death as well as the story of Mitchell
Sanders as he does the analysis of the versions that the war had and the experiences of the victims of
the war. The characters in the war story do not deal with the favoritism that is attached to the emotions
as well as the failure of the memories of the war that echo the Nietzsche s point which is based on the
life after the war that needs one to have an avoidance on the wrong things

Technology And Manufacturing Sector Overview
Industry 4.0 and Manufacturing Sector Overview
Manufacturing Sector is facing huge challenges. As customers demands are increasing for customized
products based on individual requirements, new products have to make their way to market faster and
faster and with more than one option. At the same time, more goods must be manufactured with
steadily dwindling resources, as efficiently and ecologically as possible. In order to fulfil the customer
s requirements, research and industry are counting on flexible, intelligent automation. The concept:
Machines, work pieces, means of transportation and semi finished goods shouldn t just contain
embedded systems that is to say, mini computers but should also be connected with each other and at

The smart factories of the future will optimize and control their manufacturing processes largely by
themselves, in accordance with the parameters defined by the humans.
It sounds like something magical: communities of machines organize themselves, supply chains

processing to the machines that will turn them into merchandise [7] .

Industry 4.0 in Manufacturing sector by Kulwinder Kaur for Wednesday ( 1 3 pm)
2 Potential market or disruptive potential
 Productivity: During the next five to ten years, Industry 4.0 will be embraced by more companies,
boosting productivity across all manufacturing sectors by €90 billion to €150 billion. Productivity
improvements on conversion costs, which exclude the cost of materials, will range from 15 to 25
percent [4]. When the materials costs are factored in, productivity gains of 5 to 8 percent will be
achieved. These improvements will vary by industry. Industrial component manufacturers stand to
achieve some of the biggest productivity improvements (20 to 30 percent), for example, and
automotive companies can expect increases of 10 to 20 percent [4] .
 Revenue Growth: Industry 4.0 will also drive revenue growth. Manufacturers demand for enhanced
equipment and new data applications, as well as consumer demand for a wider variety of increasingly

The Value Of Nature In The Man Who Killed The Deer
Pivotal to their tribal heritage, the Pueblos value the natural world above all else. The native people
feel a living connection with nature; in which the Pueblo find their complete peace through the bare
granite face of the mountain , the sacred tribal lake , or the deep turquoise lake of life offering the
ecocentric beings comfort (6 7). Waters novel The Man Who Killed the Deer opens with the nature
calling a strong Pueblo Indian into the woods. The honorable character hears Grandfather coyote and
Grandfather Crow call out to him, asking him to leave his home and come to the forest (17). By
listening to the heart of the mountains , synonymous to the heart of [his] body , he saves a man s life
(17). Truly, the deep pulse of the mountain and the pulse of his own blood [...] beat together as one
(7). Palemon s experience with nature sets the tone of the novel: the Pueblo value nature, tradition,
and their tribe above all else. The ecocentrism in Pueblo Culture values balance in nature over any
other relationship: if nature lies in peace, then life remains balanced. In The Man who Killed the Deer
by Frank Waters, the author influences the reader to think like a Pueblo tribe member by using the
Pueblo s value of nature to describe the protagonist and his wife.
Waters represents Martiniano s uncertainty between his Pueblo community and the white men from
his school life through his struggles with the natural world. Martiniano s battle with the outdoor world

Effectiveness of Anonymous Groups for Individuals with Substance Abuse Disorders Danielle M.
Slain University of Minnesota Abstract The prevalence and participation of various Anonymous

Michelangelo, Roman by birth, is one of the most profound artists of the High Renaissance. During
1508 to 1510, Michelangelo di Lodovico Buonarroti Simoni started on his magnificent frescos on a
ceiling known as the Sistine Chapel. The Sistine Ceiling is a 45x128ft fresco on a barrel vaulted
ceiling filled with separate compositions depicting scenes inspired by the Bible, plus numerous
decorative figures and animals. The central, uppermost part of the ceiling is the most important and is
divided into nine compartments with scenes from the Book of Genesis. The first group shows God

debate lies within what is the shape that god is in. Some argue the red shape could form a giant brain,

South Afric An Evaluation Of The Status Of Our...
130,000 years of palaeoenvironmental and palaeoclimatic change in East Africa: An evaluation of the
status of our understanding
Over the last two decades, there has been intensive work undertaken to understand African
palaeoclimates, in order to put together a more coherent picture of how the environment and climate
have varied in the past. East Africa is of particular interest with the debates surrounding the out of
Africa migrations of anatomically modern humans (e.g. Appenzellar, 2012; Armitage et al, 2011;
Balter, 2011; Cruciani et al, 2011). It is still premature for any grand synthesis of the region s climatic
past when the patchiness of the palaeoclimatic and palaeoenvironmental records are acknowledged,
and in light of the complexity of the climate forcing mechanisms across this region (Berke et al,
2014). The warning causation, correlation or coincidence still very much applies to all exercises in
explanation and more regional scale work is certainly necessary (McIntosh et al. 2015). This essay
initially takes the lens of human evolution to evaluate the status of our understanding of the
palaeoenvironmental and palaeoclimatic change during the critical Out of Africa migration periods.
This is followed by an in depth review of the palynological record in East Africa and associated
records. This evaluation focuses on the last 130 kya, the upper boundary of which, marks the start of
the Eemian interglacial. This coincides with the date determined by recent

The Article Over Population Is Not The Problem `` New...
In the article Over Population Is Not the Problem New York Times. On 13 September 2013, Erle Elis
informs us that many scientist believe humans are exceeding the earth s natural carrying capacity. That
the expanding numbers are reaching the limits of our finite planet. Earths carrying capacity is
estimated between 4 and 16 billion, and the world s population stands at around 7 billion. In other
words, we may have already passed the limits. It is estimated that by 2050, population will reach 9
billion. We are exceeding the earth s natural resources and undermining the life support that sustains
us. (Ellis) We are living beyond our means and are increasingly doing so as our population expands.
This is a serious problem with major implications for future generations. However, there is many ways
to curb overpopulation, one of them being women empowerment. Women s empowerment has four
proportions: having control over their own body, education, radical and monetary.
So, what can be done about human population growth? Can we really change population trends? If so
can we change them without undermining the core human values and the freedom of all? (Amy Coen)
There are steps that can be taken in order to solve this problem. First step is, fully realizing everyone s
human rights, especially women s rights. In the Organization Global Population Speak Out the
activists state that gender equality is a very important part in stabilizing global population. They say

The War Of The Vietnam War Essay
Vietnam s independence has come with much struggle, firstly with France s determination to regain
the empire they had ruled for over half a century and then later with America. Because of the length
and the immensely confusing nature of the Vietnam War it is impossible to reflect on America s
oppression towards Vietnam without looking at the first Indochina War, where the Vietnamese fought
against the domination of the French imperialism. Edward Lansdale, a former United States air force
officer once stated it is like a spectator arriving in the middle of a complex drama, without true
knowledge of the plot or of the identity and motivation of those in the drama. By the time the
American s committed to a ground war in Vietnam, many were describing the war against France not
only as a fight against colonialism but also as the beginning of the struggle against American
imperialism. Both America and France assumed that the Vietnamese were unfit to govern themselves
and neither would consider Vietnam gaining independence. The war period in Vietnam has a death toll
so high it still remains contested, making war Vietnam s predicament for well over forty years with no
other country suffering as many casualties of war since World War II.
France, a late comer to the European scramble for economic and political dominance in Asia,
developed an ideology to justify their imperial domination called the civilising mission or better
known as the white man s burden claiming it was

Analysis Of David Lynch s Mulholland Drive
Regarded as one of the most important directors of our century, David Lynch, was born in 1946 in
Missoula, Missouri. Lynch is also a screenwriter and producer and is one of the first to make
surrealism popular. Through his critically acclaimed films like Elephant Man, Eraser Head and Blue
Velvet, he earned his title as the first to make surrealism popular. Like any surrealist worth his salt,
Lynch creates his own version of reality, with its own set of often unfathomable and inexplicably, but
emotionally and psychologically resonant qualities. In his 2001 film, Mulholland Drive, a mystery
film that tells the story of an aspiring actress named Betty, newly arrived in Los Angeles, who meets

This in fact builds the atmosphere as vaguely disorienting, since the audience has no auditory cues to
cling to before they are taken visually by the progression of events on the screen, and all other sounds
and speech sound louder and starker against the silence. When a soundtrack is layered in, however, the
music is often incongruous with the transpiring actions for example, the orchestral music played as
Betty exits LAX with the elderly couple strikes the listener as a very strange and eerie aroma with the
strings long and mournful notes, and the jaunt and upbeat jazzy music that fills the air as Adam
confronts and is thrown out of his house by his cheating wife seems inappropriate for the situation.
Lynch s auditory cues are proposed to further confuse the audience and to mislead them through the
plot of Mulholland Drive, but his deceptiveness further allows deeper reflection. This is why
Mulholland Drive is such a great example of a film to analyze because of David Lynch s ability to
really portray certain concepts and intentional film elements that are left up to individual
interpretations.
Much of Lynch s directorial skills projected the film as a very highly regarded film. The arrangement
of everything that appears in the framing actors, lighting, décor, props, costume is called mise en

Germ Theory Of Disease
Hand washing is the most important method of avoiding sickness and germs spreading. According to
WHO, it is always important to wash hands to not only remove visible dirty but also to kill disease
causing pathogens. We should wash our hands when:
They are visibly dirty
Before touching raw meant such as beef or chicken
After changing adults or infant nappies
After touching pets or animals
After going to toilets
Before eating
Before preparing food items
After contacting with any body fluids like vomit, urine and blood
After blowing our noses or sneezing
Doctors mostly use alcohol based hand rubs instead of periodically washing their hands since they
handle patients, very old people and very young children (M Worboys, 2008).
This experiment goes hand in hand with the Germ theory of disease which states that many diseases
are caused due to the presence and actions of specific pathogens within the body. Washing hands with
soap and water is among the best and the cheapest way to reduce the number of disease causing micro
organisms in many situations. If soap and water are not available, experts recommend that alcohol
based hand sanitizes containing at least 60% alcohol should be used (J Waller, 2004).
Alcohol based sanitizes quickly reduce the number of pathogens even though some Sanitizers do not
eliminate all germs. Hand ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Hitler As A Military Leader Essay
Did Adolf Hitler s arrogance cost him the war? During World War II, Hitler thought himself a military
and tactical genius. However, he still lost the war. Adolf Hitler, the leader of Nazi Germany, wanted to
conquer the world and create an empire. He planned to purge the world of anyone he deemed inferior.
Those he deemed inferior included Jews, Gypsies, Slavs, African Americans. and anyone with special
needs. He, along with his superior Aryan race, would rule the world. Aryans, were Nordic in
appearance and of direct German descent. In 1934, Adolph Hitler became the absolute dictator, or
Fuhrer, of Germany. Germany s democratic government was dismantled and Hitler s Third Reich
began. Hitler began to put his grand plan into action. Hitler found great success in his early military
campaigns; however, his arrogance lead to his later military failures. In my essay, I will examine
Hitler as a military leader. I will analyze what he did, and why he did it. Did he make the right
decisions at the right times? I will discuss his early military victories, and analyze his decisions during
the battles at Dunkirk and Russia that ultimately lead to an Allied victory. Lastly, I will examine his
disdain of anything Jewish that allowed the United States to drop an atomic bomb on Japan. Hitler

Mercury s surface is heavily cratered. There are two distinct types of craters that can be observed on
Mercury s surface; the more common impact crater formed during asteroid impact, and pit craters
formed from the collapse of subterranean magma chambers. The former, impact craters, are typically
more circular in shape and are accompanied by high ridges around the perimeter of the impact where
debris from the impact was ejected. The latter, pit craters, are more irregular in shape and do not have
the perimeter ridges. On the smoother plains of the surface compression folds can be seen, these are
thought to be caused by the cooling of Mercury s core causing the surface to contract. The surface of

Materials for Recruitment of Ethnic Minority Students in Psychology questioned on page 818 whether
these packets are equally effective in recruiting ethnic minority applicants (Bernal, Barron Leary,

Abstract
Hyperthermia is a cancer treatment wherein the cancerous cells are killed by electromagnetic heating
of malignant tumor tissue. This study is focused on the effect of using a 432 MHz antenna heating
source for hyperthermia treatment of tissue. Temperatures of 42 °C to 46 °C are required to kill the
cancer cells while the healthy tissue is unaffected. The Pennes Bio Heat Equation is used to obtain a
numerical solution of the tissue temperature profile. A 1 D analytical solution required to make quick
calculation is derived and compared with the 2 D numerical solution solved by Finite Difference
Method (FDM). Also, the effect of variable tissue properties in the tissue region of tumor and healthy
tissue is determined and the effect of a large blood vessel is also determined.
INTRODUCTION

morning headaches or jaw pain, teeth that feel loose, and unexplained facial soreness or pain. How
Can I Prevent Bruxism? If your teeth grinding or clenching is related to stress, you may want to seek
counseling, exercise, or try relaxation techniques. Cutting out tobacco and decreasing alcohol and
caffeine intake can also decrease the frequency of the problem. At Gentle Dental Care, we can help
stop and prevent further damage from bruxism by fitting you with a custom made occlusal guard,
which is a mouthguard type of dental appliance. It will keep your teeth from grinding against each
other, even while you sleep. If your teeth grinding is caused by bite problems, we can address those,
too, by using crowns and onlays to correct the biting surfaces of your teeth. Once treated properly, the
outlook is very good for patients with

Business Ethics Are Moral Principles
Business ethics are moral principles that guide the way a business behaves. Business ethics is a form
of applied ethics that examines ethical principles and moral ethical problems that arise in a business
environment. Tesco PLC is a British multinational general merchandise and grocery retailer. Tesco is
the third largest retailer in the world measured by profits. It has a chain of stores in 12 countries across
Europe and Asia; grocery market leader in the UK. [1] https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tesco Tesco over
the years have faced ethical issues such as Fair trade controversies and issues that have arisen from
dealing with suppliers: Fair Trade Campaigners and consumers across the UK sought Tesco to prove

This is so that the producer should receive the minimum and it also aims to cover the costs of
sustainable production where they live. Tesco also had to pay a further payment on top of the
Minimum price called the Fair trade premium. This is to spend on social projects such as improving
farms, housing and education. This is always paid; it is something that producers can rely on. In fact
the Premium means that producers always receive approximately 10% extra on top of the Fair trade
Minimum Price. [3] Dealing with suppliers The Groceries Code Adjudicator ruled Tesco for seriously
breaching a legally binding code in order to boost its own profits. One of the serious issues the GCA
found was Tesco s prevalent approach of consciously delaying payments to its suppliers in order to
improve its own finances. By Tesco deferring its payments, the marker was able to report a higher
margin and meet the profit targets set by the business. The GCA found that Tesco kept some of its
suppliers waiting up to two years. In addition, it had been reported that Tesco used auditors to
forensically re examine its supplier accounts to perceive if there was any evidence of a supplier
underpaying Tesco. Tesco then issued bills demanding repayment in a taut two week timeframe. Tesco
demanded these repayments even though the supplier believed it had settled its accounts. It has been
reported that Tesco s repayment demands were found to be invalid, but Tesco then delayed paying

How Yom Kippur Is The Most Important Feast Of The Jewish...
Yom Kippur is the most important feast in the Jewish calendar. The Jewish people celebrates this feat
on every consecutive year. I chose to speak about the feast of Yom Kippur because it was inspired to
me by one of the initiators of the Neocatechumenal Way (Carmen Hernandez). Hernandez had a deep
love of for the Jewish Liturgies especially the feast of Yom Kippur. Every single year the
Neocatechumenal Way in different countries has a retreat and in the retreat there is a special day
reserved for conversion(confession). On this day of conversion all the members of the
Neocatechumenal communities have to fast the whole day and feed themselves only with the word of
God(Bible reading) and at the end of the day they confess all their sins in a penitential celebration.
Hernandez always explained the relationship between Yom Kippur and the confession(penitential
celebration) for us Catholic, that is why I have a special love for this feast because I heard of it every
single year in the annual Neocatechumenal Way retreat. Another fact that pushed me to write about
Yom Kippur is that we are in the year of mercy. So my paper will be based on the history of the Feast
of Yom Kippur and Its origins and how it was prepared and celebrated among the Jewish. I will
describe how the feast is celebrated and I will show its values in the Jewish faith. I will show as well
how Jesus Christ celebrated the feast of Yom Kippur. Finally I will illustrated how Jesus fulfilled the
feast of Yom

Emirates (UAE), and it is one of the seven emirates that make up the country. It is a busy city with lots
of businesses and opportunities. Like every city and country around the world, Dubai has its own
culture and etiquette policy in business regarding clothing, greetings, conversation, dining, and gifts.
The way people dress is extremely important in business. People tend to make their first impression on
the way that someone s dressed. According to the article, Business Etiquette Around the World: United
Arab Emirates in Dubai, The modesty of your clothing is extremely important for men and women. Be
careful to not wear revealing clothes and to cover your shoulders, arms, and legs (Bolduc). Men
should wear darker colors suits and ties. It s viewed to be more professional. Women can wear suits or
skirts, but the hem should be below the knee. It is not necessary for non Muslim women to wear the
hijab, or headscarf unless they are planning to visit a religious site during their business trip (Bolduc).

Robert Frost s The Tuft Of Flowers And After Apple Picking
Intense and meaningful discoveries are often not anticipated, instead being sudden and unexpected.
The potential catalysts for discoveries are often unforeseen, resulting in unpredictable, confronting,
and challenging discoveries and ramifications. These outlooks are exemplified in Robert Frosts s
poetry works, The Tuft of Flowers , and After Apple Picking , and are also demonstrated in the
Challenger Disaster Speech delivered by Ronald Reagan to the USA in 1986. We see in both these
texts the potential complex ramifications brought forward by unexpected discovery upon an
individual. Robert Frost s works explore the unexpected nature of discovery and its catalysts, the
complex outcomes they bring forth, and the profound impact of discoveries upon a person. As seen in
the dramatic monologue The Tuft of Flowers , the persona is shown to be a farm worker, who goes to
a field after the mower to turn the grass. Together, the shared jobs come together to work as a larger
agricultural process, but the workers do their jobs individually. In the beginning of the poem, the
persona muses on the absence of the other worker, first Looking for him behind an isle of trees; then
Listening for his whetstone on the breeze . The persona seeks the company of the worker, but then
comes to the conclusion; And I must be, as he had been, alone . The hyphen within this line is used as
a caesura to highlight the loneliness of the worker. Due to this observation, the narrator states in a
resigned tone All as must be, I said within my heart, Whether they work together or apart . The use of
interior monologue, by the persona speaking within his heart highlights his isolation and brings forth
the first discovery of the poem, the worker is doing his job alone. The worker s search for company is
then mirrored in the appearance of a bewildered butterfly , seeking the flowers of yesterday. The
seemingly insignificant occurrence of a butterfly flying past the worker becomes important as it acts
as a catalyst for the key meaningful discovery of the poem. The butterfly searching for a flower to
land upon draws the attention of the persona to a tuft of flowers, purposefully untouched by the scythe
of the mower, in an act of

  • 2. Literary Analysis Of The Searchers( 1956 ) And Taxi Driver The term genre is referenced frequently when describing film, literature, music, and other mediums of artistry, and yet attempting to define the term itself is difficult. Genre studies are rife with uncertainty and conflicting opinions on how best to define and research genre. Some theorists opt for a semantic approach, a broader categorization a genre that encompasses a large number of films, the building blocks of which are commonplace across that genre. In contrast to the semantic theorists, some prefer a syntactic approach, isolating select films which most ideally represent the themes and structural conventions of that genre. There exists a third interpretation, a semantic/syntactic approach, which takes into consideration all ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Also present throughout the genre is the continual search for a national identity in a landscape of drastic change. This includes an attempt to overcome dialectical and communicative problems at the core of American society. These are conventions included in the genre s syntax, and they accompany a Bundle of Oppositions which often play a key role in a character s motivation and the plot of the Western film itself. These divergent concepts include: purity v. corruption , self knowledge v. illusion , savagery v. humanity , and brutalization v. refinement . Apart from the aforementioned syntactical conventions of the genre, the semantics of the Western are easily spotted and used in the vast majority of classical Western films. These more noticeable characteristics include the setting of the legendary Western frontier, guns and gun battles, violence, horses, and stock characters. One of these archetypal characters is the Frontier Hero , a character identified with the landscape of the west, and whose purpose in the film is to purge that landscape of obstacles in the way of its development. Also included in this generic cast of the Western are the tough/soft Cowboy , the savage Indian , the strong but tender woman , the out of touch antihero , and the lonely sheriff . These semantics are commonplace in many archaic westerns, and yet their prominence has faded as time passes.* The Searchers is a classical Western to the extreme, embodying ... • 3. What Is The Myth Of Sisyphus The bus was silent, no one daring to speak. We had just suffered the first loss in more than 10 years to one of the competing schools to make it to the state tournament for tennis. This bus ride home from the tournament in Green Bay gave me sufficient time to reflect on my matches and on the sport as a whole. Tennis is a sport of repetition. You play points over and over again until a match is complete, matches until a tournament is complete, and then the whole process repeats a couple weeks later. This reminded me of the myth of Sisyphus. Sisyphus was a kind who upon his death was tasked with rolling a boulder up a hill. However, as soon as he pushed the stone to the top it rolled back down to the bottom and he had to start again. While this is seen as a punishment in the myth I see it as a blessing. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In playing tennis I am essentially Sisyphus, repeating the same process over and over for hours and then doing it again. This is a blessing because we have the free will to associate value to something inherently valueless and put effort and time into it to make ourselves better. So by giving Sisyphus this task to repeat endlessly for eternity, they actually blessed him by giving him something to attach meaning to. In the same way tennis gives me something to attach meaning to and better myself through a game that will not improve me academically or as a person. Tennis has given me something to work and improve at and attach meaning to which fulfills me. I have tasked myself with the unachievable goal of perfection and it has brought me more happiness and achievement than almost anything else in my ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 9. My Last Duchess And Porphyria s Love Analysis True Love (A Discussion on Robert Browning s My Last Duchess and Porphyria s Lover.) Robert Browning wrote many amazing dramatic monologues during his time in the 1800 s. The English poet Robert Browning (1812 1889) is best known for his dramatic monologues. By vividly portraying a central character against a social background, these poems probed complex human motives in a variety of historical periods (Gale). Browning was super influential with his monologues during the Victorian period and even still today. Several of Browning s work are about love. Two of his most notable love monologues was My Last Duchess and Porphyria s Lover. Browning s two monologues My Last Duchess and Porphyria s lover share several similarities, but also differ severely. In Browning s readings My last Duchess and Porphyria s Lover share several similarities. Both the men in these monologues kill the women they are supposed to love. The main part of these monologues is the men killing their wives. Both kill their wives because they are both jealous men, who want complete control over the woman. They feel as if the women should be their property, and only theirs. Another Similarity of these monologues is they are wrote in the man s point of view, and not the women. Both poems show a similarity because they are both narrated from the male lover s point of view. • 10. The Change Of English Language Language is not consistent, it is changing by its nature, either because of innovation, technology, war or someone s mistakes. English has developed over more than 1500 years since Anglo Saxon invasion in AD 450 as they brought a set of Anglo Frisian (Anglo German) dialect, which became known as Old English. This time was the beginning of the development of English language. The change of English language is divided into four phases: Old English, Middle English, Early Modern English and Late Modern English. The period of Old English was roughly between 400 and 1100. It was the time when English developed from Latin as it borrowed many words via church. At that time the language was also largely affected by Scandinavians after invasion and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Sometimes, some words fall out of usage and replaced by other for example vinyl is replaced by M.P.3. All of this is explained by the functional theory, which suggests language always changes and adapts to the needs of its users. So, people create new words when they need them. On another hand, words can be created by accident. In 1958, Charles Hockett came up with theory that shows that random errors and event have an influence on language change. For example, predictive text messaging is the one example of random fluctuation. Again the language is affected by technology change and development, today s phones will estimate what word one is writing and finish it or it can correct any spelling mistakes one have made. Modern phones would automatically add an apostrophe in its no matter whether it is an adjective or short form for it is or it has . Thus the theory shows that society s mistakes could also influence the language change. Another theory that describes how and why new word enter English language is S Curve Model, which is base on the idea that language change can occur at slower pace then it increases speed as it becomes wore accepted, therefore creating curve resembling letter S . The model is based on Chen s idea. For example slang tends to spread in particular way, first when the new slang term appears it will be used by the smallest group of people and then it might be picked up by ... The Musculoskeletal System Of The Human Body Not only are there damages to the immune system of the human body, but the musculoskeletal system is also at a very large risk for injury, even from the seat of a chair. German Researcher, T. When cultures such as the Japanese perform tasks such as squatting to use the toilet, or to stand up from a bed that is on the floor (not elevated) requires a full range of motion. This full range of motion is lost when humans sit in an unnatural state for a majority of their day, and makes aging an accelerated process. It s known that sitting and rising from the floor is a basic functional process integrated into all human movement patters, and when one loses the ability to perform this action, they lose their livelihood. Performing this action requires proper posture, flexibility and muscle strength, which are all weakened by being deskbound and the sedentary lifestyle. A huge percentage of the UK has hard water which means the majority of the population have to face the cold hard truth of it: we re actually covering ourselves in soap scum. The soap scum then clogs our pores each time we use it and contributes to breakouts. The big problem with hard water is the fact that it has such a high mineral content which stops it from reacting with soap normally. Instead, it triggers a lather and creates a soapy layer upon the skin. This not only leads to very clogged pores but also irritates the skin too making it itchy, dry and sometimes flaky. Dr Dennis Gross from the U.S had this to say, These impurities in water make it difficult for soap and shampoo to wash off, leading to dryness of the skin and scalp, which directly irritate the skin and cause redness and rosacea. On top of this, there are also very strong correlations between hard water and skin disorders such as eczema. This is due to the minerals such as calcium, which when found in particularly high concentrations can cause a great loss of moisture to the skin and in turn lead to irritating conditions like eczema. A recent study at the University of Nottingham found in over 7,500 children of school age, conditions like eczema were becoming significantly more common for those within hard water areas than those in soft water areas. However, criminal activities can be mitigated. The history of crime is as old as the beginning of life itself. In every generation of time, we learn of people who engaged in crimes against the law and who were punished in accordance to law of the lands in which they lived. Today, methods of mitigating crime have greatly improved, so has the methods of committing crime. It s a delicate game. The reception of crime prevention programs has however been on the rise and people are beginning to see the effect of these programs owing to many cases being solved and more criminals brought to justice. Technology has had much to contribute to the emergence of programs that make it easier to detect and mitigate criminal activities. Towards this regard, this paper develops a program that acts as a proposal showing how criminal activities could be mitigated. The paper will investigate crime rates in various states and offer a proposition on how these crimes could be minimized or done away with altogether. Jurisdiction of the proposal The proposal outlined here will be applicable to a state or city. Larger forms of jurisdiction will not be fully captured in this proposal. His humiliation makes his role in the play quite amusing with the Olivia, Viola (Cesario), and Orsino love triangle, which as the play goes on, becomes more and more amusing and after a while, you cannot help but feel bad for the poor person. His arrogant and selfish personality makes him an amenity of sir toby, Sir Andrew and Maria who play a cruel trick on him, making him believe Olivia is in love with him. He has a poor opinion of drinking, adding humor to this 1500 s comedy. A delusional fool. When reading act two scene 5 Malvolio makes his love for Olivia clear when reading the faked letter made by Maria, Sir Toby, and Sir Andrew made him. Oil consumption is increasing but the supply is not increasing. Local governments are facing the issue of how do they plan a city that can accommodate these changes? Four studies reviewed cities and how the transportation is effecting the city. The case study cities were Christchurch, New Zealand and Minneapolis, United States of America. This cities are similar because they both have large populations living in suburbs who have to travel long distances for work, school, leisure, socialising and more. In both cities, cars are stilled the popular mode of transport. Transport can have effects on the surrounding land but not all the time. People are traveling to work differently to previous generations. All of these issues explain the situation of the transport systems in Christchurch and Minneapolis. One issues that was raised in the readings is that cars continue to be a popular choice for residents in both cities. Previous studies have shown that cities with high density living, use less cars because most people walk or catch a bus due to everything they need being so close to their home. This pattern is not happening in the case studies. Cars are the preferred mode of transport even if the residents have access to public transport. If society takes the values that are common to each culture, and then builds upon this stable foundation, then society will benefit. Society would benefit because positive relationships are built off what people have in common with one another. When different cultures in a society see how much they have in common with one another, they will be more apt to cooperate. Another writer, Jane English, raised in the American culture, highlights in her piece, What do Grown Children Owe their Parents , a belief that many cultures around the world would agree with. In this scene a character (member of the jury) asks to see the knife used in the murder, during a discussion, in which the other members of the jury claimed that the boy was guilty because the a knife the boy owned look exactly like the knife in the murder. This agreement was specially relevant to the case because the knife had very unique designs and there were claims form knife sellers supporting the unlikeness of there being two knives of the same appearance. However, the character (Henry Fonda) in this scene does something pretty clever with this information beforehand. As during this discussion he pulls out an exact looking knife to that one used in the murder and proceeds to stab it in the table, in an assured manner. This scene is very interesting because of the characters preparedness for proving his point, since he had bought that knife in the same area that the murder happened. With the rising cost of college and living expenses, people are taking out more student loans for higher amounts, leaving more people in an undesirable amount of debt and essentially trapping them. There s currently no way to get rid of federal student debt other than paying off the loans. (Quinton, Sophie, why you might be paying student loans till you retire). Because student loans are not like other loans they will not disappear if you declare bankruptcy, so the borrower is forced to pay them back even if it means you cannot afford to do so. There is not just one thing that is causing the student loan crisis this is a combination of many things that are being overlooked or ignored. We need to look into the reasoning to determine why this is happening, what problems it is causing and then come up with a solution that can stop the problem. Student loans are a great tool to use if you need financial help for college, but one must be careful and consider the consequences and understand what a student loan is and how to deal with them to make a responsible decision about their financial future. Before we can go any further, we need to first define what exactly a student loan is, and what student loans can entail. A student loan is defined as A type of loan designed to help students pay for post secondary education and the associated fees . Student loans are marvelous and a supportive tool for college students, but people don t realize that everything they borrow needs to be paid back with interest. Five years ago in 2012 71% of students graduating four year colleges had student loans and the average indebtedness of a college graduate was $29,400 . If you compare that to 1993 the average indebtedness of a college graduate was $9,450 (Average Student Loan Debt, 1993 2012). In only 19 years there was a $19,950 dollar difference in the averages. Nevertheless, both are appropriate for describing the God figure. Adam, on the other hand, is on the bottom left hand side on an earthly landscape, naked. Michelangelo could have painted him in the nude for the Bible says that Adam was naked and was not ashamed. Having one figure on rather sides of the fresco balances out the painting as a whole and with both figures stretching their arms out to meet one another, unifies the ... • 28. South Afric An Evaluation Of The Status Of Our... 130,000 years of palaeoenvironmental and palaeoclimatic change in East Africa: An evaluation of the status of our understanding Over the last two decades, there has been intensive work undertaken to understand African palaeoclimates, in order to put together a more coherent picture of how the environment and climate have varied in the past. East Africa is of particular interest with the debates surrounding the out of Africa migrations of anatomically modern humans (e.g. Appenzellar, 2012; Armitage et al, 2011; Balter, 2011; Cruciani et al, 2011). It is still premature for any grand synthesis of the region s climatic past when the patchiness of the palaeoclimatic and palaeoenvironmental records are acknowledged, and in light of the complexity of the climate forcing mechanisms across this region (Berke et al, 2014). The warning causation, correlation or coincidence still very much applies to all exercises in explanation and more regional scale work is certainly necessary (McIntosh et al. 2015). This essay initially takes the lens of human evolution to evaluate the status of our understanding of the palaeoenvironmental and palaeoclimatic change during the critical Out of Africa migration periods. This is followed by an in depth review of the palynological record in East Africa and associated records. This evaluation focuses on the last 130 kya, the upper boundary of which, marks the start of the Eemian interglacial. This coincides with the date determined by recent ... On 13 September 2013, Erle Elis informs us that many scientist believe humans are exceeding the earth s natural carrying capacity. That the expanding numbers are reaching the limits of our finite planet. Earths carrying capacity is estimated between 4 and 16 billion, and the world s population stands at around 7 billion. In other words, we may have already passed the limits. It is estimated that by 2050, population will reach 9 billion. We are exceeding the earth s natural resources and undermining the life support that sustains us. (Ellis) We are living beyond our means and are increasingly doing so as our population expands. This is a serious problem with major implications for future generations. However, there is many ways to curb overpopulation, one of them being women empowerment. Women s empowerment has four proportions: having control over their own body, education, radical and monetary. So, what can be done about human population growth? Can we really change population trends? If so can we change them without undermining the core human values and the freedom of all? (Amy Coen) There are steps that can be taken in order to solve this problem. First step is, fully realizing everyone s human rights, especially women s rights. In the Organization Global Population Speak Out the activists state that gender equality is a very important part in stabilizing global population. They say how well a society ... • 30. The War Of The Vietnam War Essay Vietnam s independence has come with much struggle, firstly with France s determination to regain the empire they had ruled for over half a century and then later with America. Because of the length and the immensely confusing nature of the Vietnam War it is impossible to reflect on America s oppression towards Vietnam without looking at the first Indochina War, where the Vietnamese fought against the domination of the French imperialism. Edward Lansdale, a former United States air force officer once stated it is like a spectator arriving in the middle of a complex drama, without true knowledge of the plot or of the identity and motivation of those in the drama. By the time the American s committed to a ground war in Vietnam, many were describing the war against France not only as a fight against colonialism but also as the beginning of the struggle against American imperialism. Both America and France assumed that the Vietnamese were unfit to govern themselves and neither would consider Vietnam gaining independence. The war period in Vietnam has a death toll so high it still remains contested, making war Vietnam s predicament for well over forty years with no other country suffering as many casualties of war since World War II. • 31. Analysis Of David Lynch s Mulholland Drive Regarded as one of the most important directors of our century, David Lynch, was born in 1946 in Missoula, Missouri. Lynch is also a screenwriter and producer and is one of the first to make surrealism popular. Through his critically acclaimed films like Elephant Man, Eraser Head and Blue Velvet, he earned his title as the first to make surrealism popular. Like any surrealist worth his salt, Lynch creates his own version of reality, with its own set of often unfathomable and inexplicably, but emotionally and psychologically resonant qualities. In his 2001 film, Mulholland Drive, a mystery film that tells the story of an aspiring actress named Betty, newly arrived in Los Angeles, who meets and becomes friends with an amnesiac woman, who ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This in fact builds the atmosphere as vaguely disorienting, since the audience has no auditory cues to cling to before they are taken visually by the progression of events on the screen, and all other sounds and speech sound louder and starker against the silence. When a soundtrack is layered in, however, the music is often incongruous with the transpiring actions for example, the orchestral music played as Betty exits LAX with the elderly couple strikes the listener as a very strange and eerie aroma with the strings long and mournful notes, and the jaunt and upbeat jazzy music that fills the air as Adam confronts and is thrown out of his house by his cheating wife seems inappropriate for the situation. Lynch s auditory cues are proposed to further confuse the audience and to mislead them through the plot of Mulholland Drive, but his deceptiveness further allows deeper reflection. This is why Mulholland Drive is such a great example of a film to analyze because of David Lynch s ability to really portray certain concepts and intentional film elements that are left up to individual interpretations. Much of Lynch s directorial skills projected the film as a very highly regarded film. According to WHO, it is always important to wash hands to not only remove visible dirty but also to kill disease causing pathogens. We should wash our hands when: They are visibly dirty Before touching raw meant such as beef or chicken After changing adults or infant nappies After touching pets or animals After going to toilets Before eating Before preparing food items After contacting with any body fluids like vomit, urine and blood After blowing our noses or sneezing Doctors mostly use alcohol based hand rubs instead of periodically washing their hands since they handle patients, very old people and very young children (M Worboys, 2008). This experiment goes hand in hand with the Germ theory of disease which states that many diseases are caused due to the presence and actions of specific pathogens within the body. Washing hands with soap and water is among the best and the cheapest way to reduce the number of disease causing micro organisms in many situations. If soap and water are not available, experts recommend that alcohol based hand sanitizes containing at least 60% alcohol should be used (J Waller, 2004). She conducted a study to show that the pictures and information provided in school packet materials mailed to prospective students had a large impact on the likelihood of them contacting the school for more information. The article titled Use of Application Materials for Recruitment of Ethnic Minority Students in Psychology questioned on page 818 whether these packets are equally effective in recruiting ethnic minority applicants (Bernal, Barron Leary, 1983) as they are in attracting white applicants. The hypothesis explored the idea that programs which stated a higher proportion of ethnic minority grad students would be judged as having a higher chance of recruiting ethnic minorities. Specifically, Dr. Martha Bernal explored how clinical psychology programs in the United States displayed diversity within the packets mailed out to prospective students. The set up involved mailing out a letter to 107 programs offered across the US which were accredited at the time, in which a fictitious student requested brochures and other materials about the clinical program offered, as well as materials on the number of minorities within the program itself. • 47. Robert Frost s The Tuft Of Flowers And After Apple Picking Intense and meaningful discoveries are often not anticipated, instead being sudden and unexpected. The potential catalysts for discoveries are often unforeseen, resulting in unpredictable, confronting, and challenging discoveries and ramifications. These outlooks are exemplified in Robert Frosts s poetry works, The Tuft of Flowers , and After Apple Picking , and are also demonstrated in the Challenger Disaster Speech delivered by Ronald Reagan to the USA in 1986. We see in both these texts the potential complex ramifications brought forward by unexpected discovery upon an individual. Robert Frost s works explore the unexpected nature of discovery and its catalysts, the complex outcomes they bring forth, and the profound impact of discoveries upon a person. As seen in the dramatic monologue The Tuft of Flowers , the persona is shown to be a farm worker, who goes to a field after the mower to turn the grass. Together, the shared jobs come together to work as a larger agricultural process, but the workers do their jobs individually. In the beginning of the poem, the persona muses on the absence of the other worker, first Looking for him behind an isle of trees; then Listening for his whetstone on the breeze . The persona seeks the company of the worker, but then comes to the conclusion; And I must be, as he had been, alone . The hyphen within this line is used as a caesura to highlight the loneliness of the worker. Due to this observation, the narrator states in a resigned tone All as must be, I said within my heart, Whether they work together or apart . The use of interior monologue, by the persona speaking within his heart highlights his isolation and brings forth the first discovery of the poem, the worker is doing his job alone. The worker s search for company is then mirrored in the appearance of a bewildered butterfly , seeking the flowers of yesterday. The seemingly insignificant occurrence of a butterfly flying past the worker becomes important as it acts as a catalyst for the key meaningful discovery of the poem. The butterfly searching for a flower to land upon draws the attention of the persona to a tuft of flowers, purposefully untouched by the scythe of the mower, in an act of ...
