Topic Ideas For Persuasive Essays
Writing an essay on the topic "Topic Ideas For Persuasive Essays" can be quite challenging for
several reasons. First and foremost, the task requires a deep understanding of persuasive writing
techniques and the ability to generate compelling ideas that can sway the reader's opinion.
Coming up with original and engaging topics within the broader theme of persuasive essays adds
an additional layer of difficulty.
One challenge is finding a balance between topics that are relevant and interesting to the target
audience. It requires thorough research to identify current issues or trends that people are
passionate about, ensuring that the essay has real-world relevance and impact. Additionally, the
writer must consider the diversity of perspectives on each potential topic to anticipate
counterarguments and address them effectively.
Crafting a persuasive essay involves more than just presenting arguments; it requires the skill to
weave a coherent narrative that captivates the reader from start to finish. The essay should have
a clear structure with a compelling introduction, well-supported body paragraphs, and a strong
conclusion that leaves a lasting impression. Achieving this coherence while juggling multiple
topic ideas can be a daunting task.
Furthermore, maintaining a persuasive tone throughout the essay is crucial. Striking the right

Napoleon Chagnon And The Origins Of The Yanomami
We live in a world today that is consistent change. We are discovering our forgotten
past and connecting the dots on how our society came to be. Among connecting these
dots, in 1964, Napoleon Chagnon, a young anthropologist, traveled to the Amazon
and came upon the indigenous tribe, the Yanomami. Through observation, and
engagement, Napoleon Chagnon, brought to better hindsight of the inter webbing of
the inclusive Yanomami. Chagnon s research resulted a break through in the field of
Anthropology. As time has passed, other Anthropologists have analyzed and some
agreed and some have begun to scrutinize Chagnon s methods. Among those that
agree with Chagnon are the authors, Brett and Kate McKay, who wrote: The

The Role Of Participatory Budgeting During The...
A lack of participative budgeting during the construction of the Christmas Island
Immigration Detention Centre
Introduction
This essay will deliberate participative budgeting and discuss academic literature in
relation to its value and impacts on achieving organisational objectives within budget.
To explain the practical terms thereof, a case study of a public sector project will be
used in conjunction with relevant literature, to form an opinion on whether
participative budgeting is advantageous or not. The case study is that of the
Australian Government and their identified need to construct a facility on Christmas
Island for the purpose of receiving and accommodating unauthorised boat arrivals
(ANAO 2009). The facility and project ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
After six months and an indicative budget blow out of sixty percent, the initial project
was suspended and the contractor s contract terminated.
A respecified project was planned and approved, and on 19 February 2003 DIMIA
transferred responsibility for delivering the facility to the Department of Finance and
Deregulation (Finance). DOTARS remained responsible for providing the associated
infrastructure. The respecified project had a new budget of $276.2 million. Despite
the initial projects failure due to the indicative budget blow out, the new project
reported upon its conclusion in June 2008, another exceeded budget to the sum of
$396 million, a further $119.8 million over the budget.
The budget for the initial and respecified project was reported to have been
established after a reasonable period of time and considerable investigations.
However, the planning on both occasions, were done by appointed experts in
isolation, who did not consult with the two departments responsible for delivering the
project and did not requested their inputs. The Australian National Audit Office
(ANAO) reported, upon conclusion of the project, the reasons for the budget blow
outs. One reason clearly stood out, which was a lack of stakeholder involvement
during planning and drafting the budget. As a result, the ANAO recommended that
future projects should effectively integrate stakeholders,

Dbq Alien And Sedition Acts In 1798
In the Kentucky Resolutions of 1798, there are 9 issues that ended up being
resolved. In the 8th resolve, the, Alien and Sedition acts have been brought up. The
Alien and Sedition acts are four bills in the U.S passed by the Federalist during a
time when they had a navel war with France, also that will be later known as the,
Quasi War. It was then later signed by, President John Adams in the year, 1798. The
reason behind the, Alien and Sedition actswere to try and strengthen our national
security. With a few people that felt as if they were really to keep the voters who
didn t like the federalist parties ideas. In 1798 the United Stateswas undergoing the
thought of going to war with the French because they were targeting our ships. The
United States was also having a lot of incoming French moving into the United
States. When the people wanted to clear up all the problems, the federalist was very
concerned that the French were going to become friends with the republicans and
join sides with them. In my opinion if I were a federalist, that would be the first
thing that would ve came to mind. In June they decided to pass the Alien and
Sedition Act.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This was to have the immigrants wait fourteen years instead of the regular five
years to become a legal citizen off the United States. The second act was the, Alien
Act. This was so the President could put, illegal aliens into prison if they seemed to
come off as, dangerous and a disruption to the U.S. The third act was the, Alien
Enemies Act. Like the second act, the President was allowed to put them in prison
and deport them also by punishing them all while they were in a war. The fourth and
concluding act was the, Sedition Act. This act was allowing them to put people in
prison or by punishing the convicted person of releasing any so called, anti

The Impact Of Smart Growth Regulations On Affordable
Housing
Every profession bears the responsibility to understand the circumstances that enable
its existence. ― Robert Gutman
In trying to find material and an understanding about the issues of sustainability,
smart growth and affordable housing I came across the preceding quote by Robert
Gutman author of Neighborhood, City, Metropolis: An Integrated Reader in Urban
Sociology , which I thought encapsulated my efforts in writing this paper. This paper
is not so much an attempt to make an argument for one aspect or another of the three
E s of sustainability, nor is it an attempt to argue about the effects of smart growth
regulations on affordable housing, but rather it is an effort to understand what these
key elements are and how they may or may not actually relate to each other. As such
this paper is a survey of sustainability, smart growth and affordable housing and how
regional governments may or may not impact the three issues, their relationship to
each other and their effective application.
Sustainable Development:
My knowledge prior to this class about sustainability was that it was an attempt or
effort to protect the environment from the encroachment of unchecked suburban
sprawl. My assumptions were that it was a product of the 1970s counter culture
hippie movement and a return back to nature. However, during the process of
studying this subject I have since come to learn that sustainability is much more than
just about the environment, but rather also about the economics

Juveniles and Drug Abuse
Juveniles and Drug Abuse America Abstract A drug is a substance that modifies one
or more of the body s functions when it is consumed. Therefore, many common
foods qualify as drugs. According to this definition, some of our most cherished
beverages such as tea, coffee, and cola are drugs. However this paper focuses on
drugs that are abused by teenagers. Surveys show that cocaine, marijuana, heroin, and
inhalants are the most commonly used drugs among teenagers age thirteen through
eighteen. One of the most startling findings from recent data is the degree to which
to which teenagers are now involved in drug use. This drug abuse problem has gotten
worse. Perhaps our society must hit rock bottom before changes can occur.... Show

In, doing this, researchers need to continue to increase their understanding of drug
use among the youth, its causes, and manifestations. Second, researchers need to
explore methods of reaching youngsters during the crucial years when drugs become
an alternative. Evaluation findings show that schools, which implemented awareness
programs, had few participants in the area to partake in drugs than those schools that
did not have awareness programs. The findings also indicated that the target
population needs more schools to implement educational programs like Planned
Parenthood and the Drug Abuse Resistance Education program (D.A.R.E.).
Heightening the risks of drug abuse among juveniles makes them aware of the
consequences their facing in the future. Studies show children that are aware of the
risks of drugs tend to draw away from drugs rather than those have no clue about
what drugs can do. Therefore, it is important to implement programs of this type in
all schools. Bacchi, Carol Lee. The Politics of Affirmative Action: Women , Equality

Jephah Judges 11 Analysis
In Judges 11, Jephthah s acceptance and God s silence about Jephthah s vow are the
terror of this text. Jephthah exchanged his daughter with victory against the
Ammonites. I am wondering whether Jephthah did not know his daughter will come
out to meet him. Jephthah s daughter was the only child. Although I do not know
well about the tradition and culture at that time, I think Jephthah can think her
daughter or her wife will be one of the sacrifices. If he did not know about it, he
should try to do something to save his daughter. Jephthah even does not try to ask God
whether there is another way instead of sacrificing his daughter. Furthermore,
Jephthah blames the situation on his daughter in verse 35.
Moreover, God is silence in this text. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
These texts named the wicked men of the city as the wicked , but I would like to
say the owner of the house and the Levite are also the wicked .
The owner of the house believes the Levite is more important than his daughter in
v.24. It was the first time for the owner to see the Levite, but he thought to give his
daughter to the wicked men for protecting the Levite. Furthermore, the owner ignores
the concubine s right as well. The owner of house even did not ask the Levite about
taking and sending concubine outside. The attitude of the owner of house represents
that he does not respect women s right.
I cannot understand the Levite s actions. In verse 28, how he can say, get up, let s
go ? At least he should say sorry . The worst part is that he cut up his concubine.
Although he blames on the men of Gibeah by saying, [the men of Gibeah]
committed this lewd and outrageous act in Israel in Judges 20:6, I believe that he
also involved in that happen because he was silent when the outrageous act was
happening. He just let it happen. For me, the Levite seems to make the reason to fight

A Streetcar Named Desire By Tennessee Williams
A Streetcar Named Desire was written by Tennessee Williams in the late 1940s.
The play takes place in New Orleans, Louisiana. A Streetcar Named Desire is a
tragedy about a Mississippi school teacher, Blanche DuBois, who travels to New
Orleans to visit her sister and brother in law, Stella and Stanley Kowalski. Throughout
this play, Williams displays the destruction of Blanche DuBoislife by alcoholism, her
lust for young boys, and Stanley Kowalski. In this play there are distinct differences
between Blanche DuBois and Stanley Kowalski s lifestyles, backgrounds, and
personalities. In A Streetcar Named Desire, Williams portrays two completely
opposite ways of life within the characters of Blanche DuBois and Stanley Kowalski.
The backgrounds of these two characters play a crucial part in the understanding of
the meaning behind this play. Once it is understood where Blanche Dubois and
Stanley Kowalski come from, it is much easier to understand the reasoning behind
certain events that happen in A Streetcar Named Desire.
In A Streetcar Named Desire, Blanche DuBois proves to the readers that she is
mentally unstable. Her imaginary world that she seems to be living in plays a huge
role in the play. Throughout the play, she demonstrates that she is living in a world
of illusion and even states, I don t want realism. I want magic! (127) At the
beginning of the play, when Stanley Kowalski is going through Blanche s trunk of
things and finds expensive looking jewelry and fur, she

Moreover, the 20th century s fight for the power makes the rights of an individual
be dependent on the rights of the society. This individual is not a personality
anymore that was established in the 19th century literature. It is a simple person,
who is depressed by the highly technological world and the demands of the society

and the developing power of all this over an individual has made him small. Also in
Mrs Dalloway Clarissa is of less importance than the position she holds in the
society. Everyone who comes to the party is interested only in the luxuriance and
the possibility to be at least for some time in the higher levels of the society. For
example, Ellie Henderson, who is a cousin of Clarissa, is very poor, but still she
would find something to wear on and to be among those people from the higher
levels of society: It was an event to her, going to a party. It was quite a treat just to

I mean you ll have Magic, who is a pass first point guard, dishing out to the likes of
Kobe, Shaq, West, and Kareem on top of keeping defenders on their heels. Bulls
would have to really figure out how to slow that down and I don t think Rose is
the guy to really do that. I do believe the Bulls have an advantage at the Small
Forward and Shooting Guard position. Yes Laker fans I would have to give the
edge to Pippen over Jerry West seeing Scottie was a lot more athletic and was
pretty good defensive player, while Michael Jordan and Kobe Bryant are about
equal. They re very identical when you look at them on film but I give the
slightest of slight edge to Jordan on this one. The huge disadvantage comes in the
post where you have Kareem and Shaq for the Lakers and Horace Grant and
Dennis Rodman for the Bulls. Now offensively realistically the Lakers would have
an issue because A: Both Kareem and Shaq are centers and B: Both will clog up

when you re talking Kareem and Shaq, that s a tall task for the two offensively and
defensively. The bench is also a huge advantage for the Lakers where it s
Changes in Russia Captured in the Works of Anton
Chekhov...
Anton Chekhov (1860 1904) was born a year before the emancipation of serfism in
Russia took place. Although he was the grandson of a serf, Chekhov was able to
attend the medical school at the University of Moscow and become a physician.
Chekhov started writing in order to support his family economically, becoming a
master in drama and short stories. His literature is characterized by the use of
colloquial language which could be understood even by the less educated and
recently liberated serfs. Social change is the main theme in The Cherry Orchard, a
four act play written in 1904. In this play the different characters portray how changes
in Russiaafter the emancipation of 1861 were taking place and although the play is

However, many peasants, although liberated, remained in their state of peasants
following the old regime. These men are symbolized by Firs, an old servant for
whom freedom was insignificant. He stays loyal, working in the Cherry Orchard as a
serf since he had no other opportunities in life. Firs and Lohpakin on one side contrast
Madame Ranevsky and Gayef her brother. The first two portraying two different ways
in which emancipation affected peasants, and the last two, showing how the
emancipation affected Russian aristocracy.
The past is constantly mentioned by the characters in this play. Even the cherry
orchard as property, is a symbol of the Old Russian regime. The end of the Old
Regime therefore, is portrayed by Chekhov when at the end of the play Lohpakin
becomes the owner of the estate and cuts the cherry orchard. Chekhov, as a
contemporary observer, uses his play to criticize some aspects of the emancipation
of 1861. The message he leaves is that although the emancipation was an important
step towards freedom, it was not the only one to be made. This message, besides
being given throughout the novel, is also stated by Trofimov, an idealist student
who realizes how far Russia is from achieving real freedom. At the end of Act 2,
Trofivom tells Anya, Madame Ranevskaya s 17 year old daughter: ...In order to start
living in the present, we first have to redeem our past, make an end of it, and we can
only do that through suffering... .

Analysis Of The Poem Yeats
Yeats has composed an effectively concise poem of only twelve lines in iambic
pentameter. Iambic pentameter is harnessed to replicate human speech patterns;
as if the four rhetorical questions are being posed to the reader from the speaker.
The romantic and personal content of this poem creates a certain level of intimacy
the reader will feel with Yeats. With a simple ABABCDCDEFEF rhyming
structure there is a crucial lack of rhyming couplets (often used to accentuate a
couple s closeness). Therefore a distance is already established between the
speaker and their subject. Additionally, Yeats creates the emotional response to this
poem by exploring historical, personal, political and classical mythological
elements. Yet, at the very foreground this is a love poem, and the underlying focus
on love makes this poem a typical lyric. It is important to consider the historical
context of this poem. Rather, whom Yeats intended it to be aimed at. The object of
Yeats affection during the period this poem was written is Irish Feminist and
Revolutionary Maud Gonne; she was to be his muse and the catalyst of his poetic
yearnings1. However, Gonne never accepted Yeats multiple marriage proposals
which evidently (through his writings) was a great source of grief for Yeats.
Furthermore, Yeats establishes a binary opposition between the speaker and the
subject. The speaker who condemns the subject s vicious beauty a kind That is not
natural in an age like this, is presented as a man
What Is Language Devoid Of The Social Context Of Its...
To make language devoid of the social context of its creation and use is to dislocate
it from which it derives its meanings. Thus ridding it of its use with the only benefit
of understanding what it is made up of. However, understanding what language is
made of and understanding how to use it are two different things, neither of which
will give you a complete understanding of languageon its own. Using Gardner s
analogy of language being like a fish you dissect as well as observe within its
habitat, to view language as devoid of its social context is to remove the fish from the
ocean, the environment in which is serves its purpose. In order to understand what
forms it, however, removal and dissection is necessary. Unfortunately, neither... Show

An opposing argument would be that one s thoughts aren t necessarily used to
communicate and yet they still use language. People talk like others and still each
of us has our own unique style (Bakhtin, as cited in Gee and Hayes 2011, pg. 7).
Our immediate surroundings in the early stages of development shape the
language we learn to speak first. Looking at Darwin s theory of evolution (1859,
cited in O Neil 2013, para. 20) and how the finches from the Galapagos Islands
were all divergences of their ancestral species, the language which we develop from
our social and cultural backgrounds evolves (obviously in a much faster process than
that of the finches). This is the way language changes and yet remains the same.
After studying language development in children, Michael Halliday identified seven
functions it had for them. The first four help satisfy physical need and the last three
help them understand the environment.
Language is a communal resource from which we all beg borrow and steal (Gee
and Hayes, 2011, pg. 7). It has also been suggested by Gee and Hayes (2011) that it
would be highly likely that all human language developed from one original
language. We can see a similar idea in Minna Sundberg s illustration of the Old
World Language Families tree, where Indo European branched off to European,
which then branched off to Germanic, West Germanic, Anglo Frisian and finally
English. Even in the book of Genesis it is written that the whole word had

the 1970 amendments to the Bank Holding Company Act; the International Banking

Essay On Electronic Vehicle Control
Electronic Stability Control (ESC) ESC systems sense parameters such as yaw
rate, steering wheel angle and lateral acceleration in order to detect differences
between the intended and actual path of the vehicle. The system is then linked to
the ABS and engine management system in order to differentially apply the brakes
and/or reduce the engine power to individual wheels, thus generating yaw
moments to correct the vehicles path. These systems are known by a variety of
other proprietary names such as Vehicle Dynamic Controller (VDC) and Vehicle
Stability Control (VSC) but are referred to generically as ESC in this report.
Market penetration of ESC systems was estimated at 27% in Europe in 2002, and
is expected to reach 50% in Europe by 2007 (Reed Electronics Research, 2003).
Previous research indicates that ESC significantly reduced instability in test
manoeuvres where substantial instability was encountered. It also suggests that ESC
does not influence vehicle behaviour when a driver attempts to operate outside the
physical limits of the vehicle. No significant disbenefits of ESC systems were found,
and clear evidence of positive influence on safety and accident reduction was cited
(Grover Knight, 2005). ESC is also now strongly recommended to all consumers by
the EuroNCAP organisation (EuroNCAP, 2005). It is suggested that ESC must work
to constrain vehicle behaviour to that expected by normal human driving behaviour. It
does this either by producing similar

We have a large aging population in town and recently new families with children
have moved to the area. We identify osteopenia (decrease in bone density, not as
severe as osteoporosis) as early as possible with routine checkups. At times we
work closely with the nutritionist to ensure patients have a good diet to support
their bones including plenty of calcium and Vitamin D. Lately there have been
elderly patients who have missed several checkups and now have osteoporosis
(weak brittle bone) and are having fractures (partial or full break in bone), in which
the radiologist department performs an x ray. Osteoclasia (intentional fracture of a
bone) has been performed before to correct a bone that healed incorrectly. An
exceptional case of osteoma (new piece of bone growing on bone, usually skull, is a
benign tumor) required our lead orthopedic to perform minimally invasive surgery.
We see several cases of herniated disc (damaged disc between vertebrae) and
rheumatoid arthritis (chronic inflammation affecting many joints). Myelograms
(contrast dye used with x ray and CT scan) are performed to see if ... Show more

Patients have then developed pulmonary hypertension (high blood pressure affecting
lungs). This year there have been many cases of COPD (chronic obstructive
pulmonary disease) including emphysema (disease blocking airflow, difficult to
breath) and chronic bronchitis (inflammation of bronchial tubes). The radiologist lab
has performed chest x rays for the emphysema patients to help confirm any advanced
stages and to rule out other causes of shortness of breath. Chest x rays identified
cystic fibrosis (inherited disorder clogs lungs with mucous) patients with having
emphysema. In many cases this year a patient had advanced stages of emphysema
and required a lung

Disparate Faith Traditions
The various differences of doctrine and dogma between faith traditions are often a
stumbling block for non believers, causing them to wonder how it can be said that
any one religion has is correct if there are such a plethora of them. This essay has
hopefully alleviated that stumbling block to some degree, although no written work
will ever have the capacity to remove it entirely. It has been shown that despite the
immensely different beliefs that are held by the Buddhist and Catholic traditions,
there is a surprisingly large amount of common ground in the realm of practice.
While Catholics believe in a supremely good, powerful, and knowledgeable God,
Buddhists have varying beliefs about divinity. While Buddhists firmly assert that
there is no real, inner self within each individual, Catholics believe in an... Show

This essay is far from exhaustive in the realm of shared practices between the faiths.
If this inexplicable agreement is not enough to reassure those who are experiencing
doubt that there must be some underlying truth that has led these disparate faith
traditions to such similar conclusions about practice, then there is nothing that will
reassure such doubt. In addition to those doubting that there can be any discernable
or trustworthy truth found in religions, this notable set of points of agreement should
serve to reassure the adherents of both faith traditions. Just as in common speech it is
reassuring to hear that someone agrees with you after they have put significant
thought into the topic at hand, it should be reassuring to Catholics and Buddhists to
know that each faith tradition supports at least some considerable number of the

Research Paper On Brazil Funerals
Brazilian funerals are held very differently than the average American funeral.
Their traditions stemmed from not only their beliefs but also their living
environment, as Brazil is very hot and demands a fast burial. Within forty eight
hours of death, and not a moment longer, a memorial service will most likely take
place in a location called a velorios, a place where a private or public gathering can
take place to mourn the dead. Unlike an average American funeral, food or a long
period of waiting does not take place. A funeral for the Brazilians is very personal
and intimate; kissing and hugging the dead is usually involved along with crying and
loud mourning for the deceased. The main responsibilities of all those involved in the

Video Game Reduces Social Anxiety
Video Game Reduces Social Anxiety Whether it is in a real world or cyber space,
meeting people seems to be an almost inevitable part of modern daily life. Meeting
or interacting with new people can be stressful. When people encounter a stranger,
they try to avoid or reduce it by getting as much information as possible in the
course of the conversation or interaction. There is an average of two gamers in
each game playing U.S household as shown in the research of ESA Entertainment
Software Association (2013). According to ESA s Effective Facts, over 50% of
Americans are playing video games that means at least one of the average U.S.

Video Game Addiction A great deal of research has focused on the identification of
addicted adolescent gamers (Van Rooij, Schoenmakers, Vermulst, Van Den Eijnden,

driven to identify a group of addicted online gamers. The video game industry is
among the fastest growing sectors of the US economy (ESA Entertainment Software

The 7 Ecosystem Functions Between Two Habitats Types
In order to analyze the data for the 7 ecosystem functions between two habitat types

significant difference of the ecosystem functions between two habitat types.
2.Correlation matrix, which will tell us if there is an association between the

United Nations Shortcomings
The United Nations is one of the most well known international organizations in the
world. It tries to serve the task of maintaining international order by promoting
international collaboration throughout its 193 member states and various agencies.
The United Nations facilitates order by the coordination of international security,
international law, economic development, human rights, social progress, and trying
to maintain world peace. Overall, the United Nationshas failed to deliver on its main
objectives which has resulted in the organization having little to no power. The
United Nations shortcomings are evidently shown through the United Nations
Security Council s (UNSC) unsuccessful prevention of international conflicts, its
organization s ignorance towards human rights crimes, and the little to no
authoritative power that the organization possesses in resolving conflicts as a
mediator.
The United Nations most widely known purpose is to prevent conflicts within and
between countries. However, the United Nations has failed to prevent a plethora of
conflicts, resulting in catastrophic consequences. An ongoing conflict, The Somali
Civil War began in 1991. In 1992, as the Somali Civil War crisis worsened, the
United Nations Security Council (UNSC) sanctioned the Unified Task Force
(UNITAF) to initiate a safe and protective environment to allow humanitarian efforts
to proceed. However, the UN s efforts completely failed, resulting in a crisis.

S by Doug Dorst
The book that I chose for this project is called S. It is a difficult book to write a
report on, almost entirely because of the unique concept and presentation behind it.
It was created by film director J.J. Abrams and written by author Doug Dorst. While
S. is the name of the project, the story is contained in the form of a fictional book
called Ship of Theseus, written by the prolific, incendiary, and ever mysterious author,
V.M. Straka. What makes the story of S. so unique is that while the novel is a
traditional narrative, the margins of the book are filled with scribbles, writings,
notes, clues, musings and revelations from two readers, Jen and Eric. Jen, a college
senior, and Eric, a former grad student and Straka researcher.
Because of the nature of the presentation of this book, the summary will need to be
separated into two distinct sections: The first section will cover the plot and events
of the book Ship of Theseus, while the second section will cover the plot and events
of the real life story taking place in the margins.
In Ship of Theseus, a man fins himself walking through an unknown city. This story
presumably takes place in the late 1800s to early 1900s. Knowing nothing about
himself, where he came from, or his surroundings, he tries to solve the mystery of
who he might be. In his pockets are nothing but a soggy scrap of paper with an
ornate letter S and a small black pebble. He remembers nothing but the feeling of
falling from a large height. Wandering
The Texas Governor Power In The Judicial System
The next branch would be the judicial. The Texas governor power in the judicial
branch is limited. The Texas governor power is to fill in a vacant spot when an
incumbent of the judicial branch retires, dies, or resigns from their office (
Champagne and Harpman 253). The Texas governor power is limited in this branch
due to their predecessors abuse of power. The Texas Governor can grant clemency
but must be recommended by the Board of Pardons and Paroles. Despite the powers
the Texas governor has, the governor is still considered weaker than other governors.
The reason for the Texas governor being more limited than other governors is the
Constitution of 1876. The Texas Constitution of 1876 was part of the Reconstruction
government that existed
Regulating Dietary Supplements Essay
According to the 2002 Harris poll, seven out of ten adults in the United States take
vitamins, minerals, herbs, or other supplements (Schardt 2). Due to media
advertising, dietary supplements are becoming more popular. Companies compete to
have the best supplements. It is said that forty percent of American adults take vitamin
supplements and over the counter products, which total in several billion dollars
(Farley 2). Although many of the supplements claim to be healthy and help lose
weight, the dangers are endless. Dietary supplementscan be illegally spiked and are
not safe. Therefore, putting regulations on dietary supplements and their safety
hazards is necessary. To begin, the Federal Food and Drug Administration

consequently there are more problems that remain undiagnosed (Schardt 5). The side
effects experienced by the consumers believe that their symptoms are normal and do
not report them. A 2001 report by the U.S. Department of Health and Human
Services estimated that only about one out of one hundred adverse reactions are

the consumers before the product is able to be banned. Also, the FDA has found 300
products that are frauds. These products are usually in dietary supplements, sexual

unapproved stimulants (Starling 1). Michael Levy, the FDA s director in its Division
of New Drugs and Labeling Compliance said, These products are masquerading as

The Representation of the Female in William Blake
If William Blake was, as Northrop Frye described him in his prominent book
Fearful Symmetry, a mystic enraptured with incommunicable visions, standing apart,
a lonely and isolated figure, out of touch with his own age and without influence on
the following one (3), time has proved to be the visionary s most celebrated ally,
making him one of the most frequently written about poets of the English language.
William Blake has become, in a sense, an institution.

In his essay Blake: Sex, Society, and Ideology, David Aers follows Fox s thread
that Blake s attitude toward the Female shifts, but explains that the case is far more
complicated than a matter of authorial incoherence or change of mind (33). Aers
offers a psychologically based exploration of Blake s treatment of the Female and
the conventional views of women in the society of which he was a part and
concludes that Blake could not escape the popular male supremacist tradition. In
opposition to this approach, Mary Lynn Johnson, in her essay
Feminist Approaches to Teaching argues that in a century when no one . . . fully
escaped the fourfold grip of father, priest, king, and God, Blake stands out as one of
the few writers who understood the pervasiveness of this patriarchal power alignment
and resisted its influence (58). Another critic who discusses the shift in Blake s
treatment of the Female is Brenda Webster, whose article Blake, Women, and
Sexuality considers Blake s shift in his treatment of the Female a result of his
increasingly negative attitude toward sexuality
(209). Webster explores Blake s fear of the Female Will, and how it affects his images
of women.
Dealing with the subject of the shift in the treatment of the Female, yet from a
different angle, in his article William Blake s
The Museum Of Anthropology And The Smithsonian
Museum
Try, if you would, to recall your last visit to a museum or other similar institution. Did
you immediately accept the information presented to you as fact? Did you stop to
think about how a particular exhibit represents a culture and whether or not it was
accurate? Since their origin, museums were created for the purpose of preservation
and interpretation of the material culturethey exhibit, and have been the most widely
accepted method for the dissemination of information pertaining to other cultures.
That being said, there is an increasing amount of discourse today questioning the
value of museums and the ways in which their exhibition of material culture actually
serves to devalue or misrepresent their cultures of origin. For this research paper, I
have decided to focus in the collections of material culture present in the Beloit
College Logan Museumof Anthropologyand the Smithsonian Museum. First, I begin
by sharing what I have learned about the history surrounding the origins of museums.
Next, I identify the ways in which museums obscure and misrepresent the cultures
they display through their exhibits either intentionally or otherwise. Finally, I attempt
to utilize what I have learned in order to compare the two institutions and identify the
ways in which they have taken steps to keep up with modern museological and
discourse.
To begin, preservation and interpretation, the concepts that form the basis of
museums, originates from the human inclination to acquire

Advantages Of Commuting
Many people must or choose to commute to school on a weekly basis for a variety
of reasons. Before the school year begins, students must make the choice of whether
or not they want to live on campus or commute. Commuting does not necessarily
have to do with going to school, but commuting is commonly seen for going to
school or work. I had to decide whether or not to commute before my Fall semester
started, and picking was a tough choice because I live quite far from the college
campus; however, I chose to commute for various reasons and it was the right
decision. People who commute far distances, usually complain about the annoyances
that come with commuting, and some of these people will choose to move closer
even though they were originally at driving distance; however, most people who
commute chose to continue commuting for as long as possible anyways. Dorming
and living on campus is much more convenient, but commuting to college, if
possible, is much better since commuting is cheaper, anyone can do it, family
reasons, and of course much more comfortable. Commuting may be tough in the
morning since a commuter must wake up, and begin traveling early, but at the end
of the year a commuter would save much more money. Most people choose to
commute because of money and Free housing, food and laundry. Living at home
means you save a lot of money, which can help you down the line when you want to
move out on your own (Callahan, Confessions of a College Commuter.). Callahan

Pollution Effect On Plant Pollution
While I went through this project I noticed that I truly do not have a green thumb,
the only plants that really changed much were the plants that I killed. My motor oil
plants rapidly died, shrinking quickly and drying up. I actually still only have two
of the control group plants. My hypothesis was supported, the plants that I
administered motor oil to died rapidly while the other plants just kind of continued
life. I know that most oil spills usually occur in the ocean or coastal waters, but this
project really made me understand how tragic just a little bit of oil could be on
vegetation. The United States distributes, consumes, and even produces huge
quantities of oil every single year. Over 10 million gallons of oil is spilled yearly. I
can t honestly think of many ways to prevent such things from happening but one
thing I do know is that we should start thinking of better ways to transport oil to
reduce oil spills on land.
This semester I studied the effect certain types of pollution has on plant growth. My
initial hypothesis was that the pollutant would affect the plant growth excessively,
and might even kill the plants in the experimental group. The results of this project
were almost exactly what I predicted them to be, and ultimately my hypothesis was
supported. Soil pollution is so common these days, and it mainly happens due to
elements that are man made. Our waste, is so much different from things that
nature itself produces. Rotten fruits and vegetables, dead animals or dead plants
make the soil more fertile and unbelievably are actually really good types of food
for soil. Our waste on the other hand is full of so many harsh chemicals that are
obviously not originally found in nature and this is what leads to soil pollution.
There are so many different things that factor into soil pollution. Things such as
coal or iron mines depend solely on extracting minerals from the Earth and the by
products that are used are contaminated and usually not disposed of properly.
Industrial waste stays in the soil for who knows how long. One thing that a lot of
people probably never think about (including myself) is the types of personal waste
we contaminate the soil with. Our bodies are filled with
The Concept Of Silence In Maxine Hong Kingston s No
Name...
The concept of silence and the right to public speech has always been aborted in
different ways depending on the culture. American and Chinese culture differ in their
interpretation of what is acceptable or not in terms of behaviours in their respective
societies. Regarding silence, American women are much more encouraged to state
their opinion than Chinese women. With that idea in mind, Maxine Hong Kingston
shares her aunt s story and hers in No Name Woman, a nonfiction piece recalling the
author s personal experiences and reflections on traditional Chinese family. Silence is
present in many ways and has different purposes all throughout the story. In No
Name Woman, silence is used as a way to control behaviour.
The mother s emphasis on keeping this story a secret demonstrates how the aunt is
being punished for her impregnation. The story starts with a warning not to tell
anyone, setting an atmosphere of shameful secret even before learning about the
aunt s story. Punishing someone is a form of control over the individual being
punished, usually a way of diminishing a certain behavior by adding a negative
stimulus. By committing a spite suicide, the aunt tries to punish her family by
ruining their drinking water. Her choice of manner and location for the suicide has
an important signification in Chinese culture: The Chinese are always very
frightened of the drowned ones, whose weeping ghost [...] waits silently by the
water to pull down a substitute (464). This passage shows how the family silence is
their way of protecting themselves from the aunt s ghost by continuing to punish
her, not only for her impregnation but also for her suicide. Her revenge was well
chosen as her final attempt at preserving some sense of control over her faith. Given
that the aunt didn t get to have a proper funeral and offends, her punishment
continues after her death and remains as long as her existence falls into oblivion. As
the daughter later understands, the aunt remains forever hungry, since the family s
silence didn t offer her a proper way of passing through (464). Because her family,
including Maxine s father and the aunt s own brother, have deliberately forgotten her,
she can never truly rest in peace. The aunt
Analysis Of Aleksandr Solzhenitsyn s One Day Of The Life...

The Effect of Structure on Purpose in One Day in the Life of Ivan Denisovich One
Day in the Life of Ivan Denisovich by Aleksandr Solzhenitsyn follows a Russian
prison inmate, Shukhov, through a standard day in the gulag system. The novel
displays Shukhov s struggle to survive through inhumane conditions and how he
deals and tolerates his suppressive and endless lifestyle. The novel provides insight
into the differing ideals and philosophical views that the very diverse groups of
prisoners hold. By using tools such as perspective and time, Solzhenitsyn provides a
platform from which he can bring multiple levels of meaning to an otherwise
monotonous and uneventful account. Time plays an important role in the structure
on One Day in the Life of Ivan Denisovich. The lack of chapters, sections, or parts in
the book keep the narration continuous, creating the effect of an elongated day that
drags on. In the following passage, Shukhov reveals the how time is perceived in the
camp: No zek ever lays eyes on a clock or watch... All a zek needs to know is how
soon is reveille? How long till work parade? Till dinnertime? (171) . The effect of
time elongation is done with the lack of specific times; events are only described
chronologically and specific times are rarely used. Personal time is a precious
resource for the prisoners, or zeks. To the zeks, time in the prison camp is a
contradiction because there is too much of
Equality Can Be Measured And Measure Equality
Equality can be measured through various measures to understand the magnitude
or scale of it social scientists use various techniques to examine and deduce the
level of equality. The level of equality varies drastically across the globe, in one of
the most unequal societies in generations. According to equality human rights
(slide 9 equality see slide on link) equality can be seen as the ideology that each
individual has an equal ability to fulfil their ambitions in life and the notion that no
one individual should be worse off due to their location of birth, belivefs or
disability. Equality can be categorised and analysed through many ways such as
health, wellbeing and happiness. In the UK, the equality act protects citizens via
the equality act 2010. If a person has been discriminated they have enough leverage
and protection from the state to be able to take an individual or firm to court or
tribunals. On the face of it in a general sense equality understand that due to
historical circumstances specific people in society with certain charwectersitcs are
statistically more likely to experience discrimination both in life and in the
workplace with race and disability especially. However measuring equality can be
largely more complicated and intrinsic. Many methods have been developed to
examine and measure the level of equality. In my essay I will be questioning
whether wellbeing is actually a good measure of equality and be examining how
wellbeing can be measured and
Argumentative Essay On The Unhealthy Food Choice In
School...
Argumentative Essay
INTRODUCTION TO MY ESSAY:
This is one of my favorite essays because it shows what I am passionate about. I had
a choice to write my argumentative essay on any topic of my choice, and I decided to
write it about the unhealthy food options in school lunches. I want others to know
that I believe that schools should implant healthier options in their school lunches. I
think that it is the schools responsibility to promote healthy eating for their students,
and the way to do that is to lead by example in their school lunches.
THE ESSAY:
Have you ever wondered what it would be like if you had the ability to take control
of your own childhood? If you had the ability to make your own choices in life
without depending on authorities to mandate your every move? Schools take control
of students every move from the amount of homework to the exact time that they get
out of school, which they have right to do so. Although I believe that schools need to
place restrictions on students, schools have to realize that their choices can directly
impact students well being in either positive or negative way. Schools believe that
they should not spend their money on healthy foods due to the fact that they believe
students would not eat it. While all students may not want to eat healthy, there are a
few examples of different students taking a stand against their unhealthy lunch
options. I strongly think that schools should give students a chance to eat unhealthy. I
believe that schools make a lot of great choices regarding their students, but I think
they fail to realize one major flaw that they are allowing to hurt their students. They
are allowing unhealthy school lunches to take over their cafeterias rather than
enforcing a balanced meal. Schools have the responsibility to create healthy options
for their students.
As students begin to become less active and eating more unhealthy, students have to

Examples Of Dehumanization In Metropolis
This weekend I watched on Netflix the film Metropolis (1927, Fritz Lang) and from
the film I have found some detailed examples about how the movie itself expresses
the German Expressionist theme of alienation/dehumanization resulting from the
industrial revolution that moved laborers from agriculture/farm life to factory life in
the city. The first example that relates to this theme would be when the movie
begins and the underground dwelling workers toil to operate the underground
machines that power the city while the higher class people are living better lives.
This stands out to the theme because it provided a vivid visual of the underground
dwelling workers working very hard to keep the city going and in return they weren t

However, Danone s Activia has been loved by women more than Yovita so we can
see that Activia s market share is 55 percent and Yovita s 45 percent. Most consumers
think that SГјtaЕџ s Yovita is a follower of Activia in probiotic sector. On the other
hand, in daily or pasteurized milk products, most consumers think that SГјtaЕџ much
more natural and healthy compare to the Danone. However, with the increase in the
number of dairy products manufacturer, some consumers have been started to think
that Danone and SГјtaЕџ more expensive that the quality they offer. Point of Parities

attention to distribution channels to reach each part of Turkey. However, SГјtaЕџ

Negative Impact Of Immigration
Immigration is an agent of change, as it disturbed the status quos and existing
demographic in these 3 communities. This is not to say that immigration itself is
inherently provocative, but simply that it initiates change to a community. By (
Nations Borders ) In different areas, immigration becomes a huge issue. The
community can become really crowded and over time, the population increases by
high amounts. People around the community can soon become bothered by all these
immigrants and try to take action in to their own hands. For example, the immigrant s
neighbors and co workers will try to deport them or take advantage of them. Although
economic and demographic realities may support opening doors for immigration, such
arguments mean little to voters who feel they are losing out. One poll found that
more than 15 percent of Americans say they know someone who has lost a job to an
immigrant, or say they have suffered such a loss. Such citizens wonder, Why should I
pay the cost of immigration? What about me? according to the ( Why Does ). When
more immigrants immigrate to our communities, they begin to annoy people. They
could make a negative impact on jobs throughout the country.
America is known as the nation of immigrants but its status is being challenged by
globalization. This makes make s terrorism and migration much easier. In 2005, the
immigration policy received so much attention on Capitol Hill. Members from both
sides of Congress are considering what to do
Humanity In The Maze Runner
What does the Maze Runner suggest about the world as it is today? Dashner is
suggesting through the science fictional novel The Maze Runner that we humans
allow the rough times to get the best of our humanity (what makes us human).
Dashner discusses and reflects on the threats humanity faces, looks into the truths
behind science fiction, highlights the impact that our attitude towards and perspective
on certain people has on us, contributes factors that have the power to claim certain
senses of our humanity, warns of the dangers behind our rapidly advancing
technology, questions the decisions and ways of our leaders and, in particular, takes a
deeper look into what it means to be human. Through science fiction Dashner has
reflected... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Dashner has used the character Chuck to represent humanity. Despite the rough
times Chuck still remains the innocent child with the big heart. He s the small,
podgy, humorous 12 year old with the ugly bowl haircut amongst the big, strong,
serious 16+ young adults. Thomas turned to his right to see a kid standing nearby,
short and podgy, staring at him. He was young probably the youngest of any in the
group he d seen so far, maybe twelve or thirteen years old. His brown hair hung
over his ears and neck, scraping the tops of his shoulders. Blue eyes shone through
his otherwise pitiful face, flabby and flushed. (Thomas s description of Chuck,
pg.13 14). Chuck is the odd one out, and Dashner has purposely made him to stand
out in order to emphasise how the others have lost a sense of their humanity. Chuck
also has the ability to return and remind other characters of this lost sense, in
particular Thomas. The friendship struck by these two characters is rather
heartwarming. As much as Thomas tries to deny their relationship at first, he can t
help but take on a big brother like role towards him. Through this connection Chuck
helps us to identify the sense of humanity Tom has lost, compassion and real
emotion, as well as being able to remind Tom again of what it feels like to truly love
and care. Thomas stared at him, stared at his lifeless body. Something happened
within Thomas. It started deep down in his chest, a seed of rage. Of revenge. Of hate.
Something dark and terrible. And then it exploded, bursting through his lungs,
through his neck, through his arms and legs. Through his mind . (Thomas feelings
towards Chucks murder, pg.354). This emotion from Thomas was evoked by Chuck.
Hate, one of humanities strongest emotions that can only truly be brought on by
loving something so much. Tom s feelings towards Chuck were able to return is
strong emotions and fuel his motivation.
The Dissemination Of The Gospel
There are many opinions and philosophies concerning the dissemination of the
Gospel. Some believe that spreading the Gospel is unnecessary because God
chooses a select few to be saved, and that these elect are unable to resist God s grace.
Others teach that lifestyle evangelism is the correct method of sharing the good news
of JesusChrist. Still others believe that the proper approach of sharing the Gospelis
through door to door soul winning and through preaching and teaching in the church.
One person s approach to the Gospel that has been widely debated is that of Anne
Marbury Hutchinson. Anne was born to a clergyman influenced by the Puritanleaders.
Francis Marbury, Anne s father, disagreed with the church of England and got into
trouble with the Anglican leaders on separate occasions. Her father taught Anne the
Bible, as a result she received a better education than most of the girls in her time.
Anne Marbury married the son of merchant named William Hutchinson, they had
more than a dozen children together. The Hutchinson followed the teachings of the
Puritan church, specifically a reverend named John Cotton. The Reverend John
Cotton was driven out of the Anglican church because of his Puritan ideology.
Reverend Cotton and his wife left England to pursue a ministry in the Massachusetts
Bay Colony. William and Anne Hutchinson followed their spiritual mentor to the
New World a year later. Due to Anne s involvement as a midwife and herbalist, she
became well known

AFRICAIN AMERICAINS IN WORLD WAR I
Before WORLD WAR I, military service represented a source of black pride. Black
educators, clergymen, and the press frequently referred to Negro heroes of America s
past wars. After the Civil War, the U.S, Army maintained four regular Negro
regiments the 9th and 10th Calvary and the 24th and 25th Infantry. These units
included veterans of the civil war and the frontier Indian fighting regiments. Retired
sergeants often became respected, conservative leaders in their communities. This
history set a foundation for black support and involvement in America s future wars.

To prepare the U.S. troops efficiently during World War Itroops were sent to the
British and French for training. But, when the 92nd Negro division arrived in 1917
and 1918 the British refused to train them. This was yet another obstacle challenging
race relations in Europe. General Pershing, protested to the British General Haig,
These Negroes are American Citizens. I cannot and will not discriminate against

The Effects Of Emotional Abuse
The effects emotional abuse has on a victim will stick with them for their entire life.
Even the smallest event can, and usually will, trigger horrific memories that create
anxiety and makes it a struggle to interact with others. It causes the victim to
withdraw from society because they feel they are not worry of social interaction.
When a person is repeatedly told they are stupid, worthless or any other degrading
comments, they begin to believe them. Even worse, they start to believe they deserve
the comments and think they have to change who they are as a person to fit the
expectations of the abuser. Over time, emotional abuse changes how a person thinks
and feels. Their beliefs start to model after the person attacking them. This tends to
make it hard to separate from their attackers. They become trapped in a hostile
environment because they are taught that... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It can make a person truly think they are worthless instead of just having a feeling.
When the abuser uses mental abuse it can be a form of control, jealousy,
manipulation or even a hostile environment. Mental abuse can be very intimidating.
(Rogers, 2014) It gets to the point that the assailant does not even have to speak; the
victim becomes so scared of punishment that they do what is expected of them. When
emotional abuse changes over to mental abuse, the attacker is reinforcing their
control over the victim. The mental attacks are meant to force the victim to
completely change how they think and act. This removes all free will and
encourages behavior that matches the assailant s expectations and desires. This is
why victims of domestic abuse become trapped in a relationship and only those
closest to the victim recognizing the changes in the person. When the victim manages
to get free from the person abusing them, if they are able to get away, they are no

Japanese Exclusionism Pros And Cons
The reasons for immigration to the land of opportunity called America in the early
years of our country are clear. America was seen as a place where an individual
could start over with an equal chance of success or failure, offered jobs, no matter
what country he or she came from. This proved to be true for Irish immigrants,
German American immigrants, English and black immigrants that came to America.
However, this was not the same for many of the Japanese immigrants. One of the
many challenges Japanese immigrants faced when they arrived in the United States
was the efforts of politicians, intellectuals, and community leaders to label Japanese
an undesirable race. Known collectively as the anti Japanese exclusion movement,
these efforts ranged from introducing discriminatory legislation that discouraged
further Japanese immigration, encouraging and enforcing boycotts of Japanese
businesses, and spreading propaganda that offered a multitude of reasons to justify
the exclusion of Japanese from the United States. The Anti Japanese Exclusion
Movement came on the heels of the earlier Chinese exclusion movement. When
Chinese laborers began immigrating to the U.S., especially the West Coast, in the
mid nineteenth century in pursuit of work, other groups (some of which consisted of
European immigrants) sought to exclude Chinese on the premise that as Asiatics or
Mongolians they were inherently unassimilable. In particular, these exclusionists
objected to the class background and what they argued was the questionable morality
of these immigrants who were mostly laborers and (in the case of women) prostitutes,
arguing that as non Christians these immigrants lacked basic morals and as such
would be detrimental to American society. Using tactics ranging from brute violence
to more subtle legal means particularly the Page Law and 1882 Chinese Exclusion
Act these groups succeeded in barring most Chinese immigration. By identifying
Chinese as inherently undesirable and therefore not worthy of being allowed into the
U.S., and by laying the groundwork for associating Asia with a paranoid vision of the
impending onslaught of Asian invaders (also known as yellow peril), the anti Chinese
exclusion movement
My Strengths And Weaknesses Of My Weaknesses
000864462 My Strengths and Weaknesses I believe that life is a learning
experience. We must reinforce our weaknesses until there become our strengths.
And also we are just human, not superman, we have our own weaknesses, we make
mistakes, and we experience sadness, but we will learn from all these things to
make us be a better person. As we know, success is achieved by developing our
strengths, not by eliminating our weaknesses. For me, I said that the weaknesses
are not a stumbling block to success, but it is an indispensable factor to the road of
success. Now, I will share my personal strengths and weaknesses and explain how I
plan to overcome my weaknesses in my life. One of my greatest strengths is I am a
comparison people. I am a good helper towards those who need it tend to go to any
limits while helping someone in trouble especially for helping dogs. The reason I
love dogs because the dog is loyal and faithful to his master. His master might be a
poor man or even a beggar, but, still his dog will not leave him to go with anyone
else. Even human also don t have such noble character. For lending a hand and
spreading the message of responsible ownership and animal protection, I joined the
Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (SPCA). Every weekend, I will
spend my time helping the dogs in SPCA. I am really enjoying the moment together
with them. In my future, I hope can give them more assistance. My second greatest

We are discovering our forgotten past and connecting the dots on how our society came to be. Among connecting these dots, in 1964, Napoleon Chagnon, a young anthropologist, traveled to the Amazon and came upon the indigenous tribe, the Yanomami. Through observation, and engagement, Napoleon Chagnon, brought to better hindsight of the inter webbing of the inclusive Yanomami. Among those that agree with Chagnon are the authors, Brett and Kate McKay, who wrote: The Yanomamö and the Origins of

A lack of participative budgeting during the construction of the Christmas Island Immigration Detention Centre Introduction This essay will deliberate participative budgeting and discuss academic literature in relation to its value and impacts on achieving organisational objectives within budget. To explain the practical terms thereof, a case study of a public sector project will be used in conjunction with relevant literature, to form an opinion on whether participative budgeting is advantageous or not. The case study is that of the Australian Government and their identified need to construct a facility on Christmas Island for the purpose of receiving and accommodating unauthorised boat arrivals (ANAO 2009). The facility and project ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... After six months and an indicative budget blow out of sixty percent, the initial project was suspended and the contractor s contract terminated. A respecified project was planned and approved, and on 19 February 2003 DIMIA transferred responsibility for delivering the facility to the Department of Finance and Deregulation (Finance). DOTARS remained responsible for providing the associated infrastructure. The respecified project had a new budget of $276.2 million. Despite the initial projects failure due to the indicative budget blow out, the new project reported upon its conclusion in June 2008, another exceeded budget to the sum of $396 million, a further $119.8 million over the budget. The budget for the initial and respecified project was reported to have been established after a reasonable period of time and considerable investigations. However, the planning on both occasions, were done by appointed experts in isolation, who did not consult with the two departments responsible for delivering the project and did not requested their inputs. The Australian National Audit Office (ANAO) reported, upon conclusion of the project, the reasons for the budget blow outs. One reason clearly stood out, which was a lack of stakeholder involvement during planning and drafting the budget. As a result, the ANAO recommended that future projects should effectively integrate stakeholders,

  • 5. Dbq Alien And Sedition Acts In 1798 In the Kentucky Resolutions of 1798, there are 9 issues that ended up being resolved. In the 8th resolve, the, Alien and Sedition acts have been brought up. The Alien and Sedition acts are four bills in the U.S passed by the Federalist during a time when they had a navel war with France, also that will be later known as the, Quasi War. It was then later signed by, President John Adams in the year, 1798. The reason behind the, Alien and Sedition actswere to try and strengthen our national security. With a few people that felt as if they were really to keep the voters who didn t like the federalist parties ideas. In 1798 the United Stateswas undergoing the thought of going to war with the French because they were targeting our ships. The United States was also having a lot of incoming French moving into the United States. When the people wanted to clear up all the problems, the federalist was very concerned that the French were going to become friends with the republicans and join sides with them. Like the second act, the President was allowed to put them in prison and deport them also by punishing them all while they were in a war. The fourth and concluding act was the, Sedition Act. This act was allowing them to put people in prison or by punishing the convicted person of releasing any so called, anti government works. Which seems pretty reasonable to
  • 6. The Impact Of Smart Growth Regulations On Affordable Housing Every profession bears the responsibility to understand the circumstances that enable its existence. ― Robert Gutman In trying to find material and an understanding about the issues of sustainability, smart growth and affordable housing I came across the preceding quote by Robert Gutman author of Neighborhood, City, Metropolis: An Integrated Reader in Urban Sociology , which I thought encapsulated my efforts in writing this paper. This paper is not so much an attempt to make an argument for one aspect or another of the three E s of sustainability, nor is it an attempt to argue about the effects of smart growth regulations on affordable housing, but rather it is an effort to understand what these key elements are and how they may or may not actually relate to each other. As such this paper is a survey of sustainability, smart growth and affordable housing and how regional governments may or may not impact the three issues, their relationship to each other and their effective application. Sustainable Development: My knowledge prior to this class about sustainability was that it was an attempt or effort to protect the environment from the encroachment of unchecked suburban sprawl. My assumptions were that it was a product of the 1970s counter culture hippie movement and a return back to nature. However, during the process of studying this subject I have since come to learn that sustainability is much more than just about the environment, but rather also about the economics

  • 9. Juveniles and Drug Abuse Juveniles and Drug Abuse America Abstract A drug is a substance that modifies one or more of the body s functions when it is consumed. Therefore, many common foods qualify as drugs. According to this definition, some of our most cherished beverages such as tea, coffee, and cola are drugs. However this paper focuses on drugs that are abused by teenagers. Surveys show that cocaine, marijuana, heroin, and inhalants are the most commonly used drugs among teenagers age thirteen through eighteen. One of the most startling findings from recent data is the degree to which to which teenagers are now involved in drug use. This drug abuse problem has gotten worse. Perhaps our society must hit rock bottom before changes can occur.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In, doing this, researchers need to continue to increase their understanding of drug use among the youth, its causes, and manifestations. Second, researchers need to explore methods of reaching youngsters during the crucial years when drugs become an alternative. Evaluation findings show that schools, which implemented awareness programs, had few participants in the area to partake in drugs than those schools that did not have awareness programs. The findings also indicated that the target population needs more schools to implement educational programs like Planned Parenthood and the Drug Abuse Resistance Education program (D.A.R.E.). Heightening the risks of drug abuse among juveniles makes them aware of the consequences their facing in the future. Studies show children that are aware of the risks of drugs tend to draw away from drugs rather than those have no clue about what drugs can do. Therefore, it is important to implement programs of this type in all schools. Bacchi, Carol Lee. The Politics of Affirmative Action: Women , Equality and Category Politics. • 10. Jephah Judges 11 Analysis In Judges 11, Jephthah s acceptance and God s silence about Jephthah s vow are the terror of this text. Jephthah exchanged his daughter with victory against the Ammonites. I am wondering whether Jephthah did not know his daughter will come out to meet him. Jephthah s daughter was the only child. Although I do not know well about the tradition and culture at that time, I think Jephthah can think her daughter or her wife will be one of the sacrifices. If he did not know about it, he should try to do something to save his daughter. Jephthah even does not try to ask God whether there is another way instead of sacrificing his daughter. Furthermore, Jephthah blames the situation on his daughter in verse 35. Moreover, God is silence in this text. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... These texts named the wicked men of the city as the wicked , but I would like to say the owner of the house and the Levite are also the wicked . The owner of the house believes the Levite is more important than his daughter in v.24. It was the first time for the owner to see the Levite, but he thought to give his daughter to the wicked men for protecting the Levite. Furthermore, the owner ignores the concubine s right as well. The owner of house even did not ask the Levite about taking and sending concubine outside. The attitude of the owner of house represents that he does not respect women s right. I cannot understand the Levite s actions. In verse 28, how he can say, get up, let s go ? At least he should say sorry . The worst part is that he cut up his concubine. Although he blames on the men of Gibeah by saying, [the men of Gibeah] committed this lewd and outrageous act in Israel in Judges 20:6, I believe that he also involved in that happen because he was silent when the outrageous act was happening. He just let it happen. For me, the Levite seems to make the reason to fight with
  • 11. A Streetcar Named Desire By Tennessee Williams A Streetcar Named Desire was written by Tennessee Williams in the late 1940s. The play takes place in New Orleans, Louisiana. A Streetcar Named Desire is a tragedy about a Mississippi school teacher, Blanche DuBois, who travels to New Orleans to visit her sister and brother in law, Stella and Stanley Kowalski. Throughout this play, Williams displays the destruction of Blanche DuBoislife by alcoholism, her lust for young boys, and Stanley Kowalski. In this play there are distinct differences between Blanche DuBois and Stanley Kowalski s lifestyles, backgrounds, and personalities. In A Streetcar Named Desire, Williams portrays two completely opposite ways of life within the characters of Blanche DuBois and Stanley Kowalski. The backgrounds of these two characters play a crucial part in the understanding of the meaning behind this play. Once it is understood where Blanche Dubois and Stanley Kowalski come from, it is much easier to understand the reasoning behind certain events that happen in A Streetcar Named Desire. In A Streetcar Named Desire, Blanche DuBois proves to the readers that she is mentally unstable. Her imaginary world that she seems to be living in plays a huge role in the play. Throughout the play, she demonstrates that she is living in a world of illusion and even states, I don t want realism. I want magic! (127) At the beginning of the play, when Stanley Kowalski is going through Blanche s trunk of things and finds expensive looking jewelry and fur, she
  • 12. Individual and Society in Virginia Woolf s Novel quot;mrs... According to Viktors Ivbulis (1995: 23 29) in Modernist fiction a special attention is paid to an individual who degrades because of the pressure from the society and is therefore shown as a small part of the society being unable to do miracles. Moreover, the 20th century s fight for the power makes the rights of an individual be dependent on the rights of the society. This individual is not a personality anymore that was established in the 19th century literature. It is a simple person, who is depressed by the highly technological world and the demands of the society and is therefore lonesome and isolated. An individual cannot compete successfully for his place in the society, as he does not even know his enemy. Therefore, he has to die... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... V. Ivbulis (23:1995) stresses that in Modernist fictionan individual in this technologically developed world has become trivial. The world wide market of goods, the fake blaze of the mass culture, the variety of the offers on TV and radio, and the developing power of all this over an individual has made him small. Also in Mrs Dalloway Clarissa is of less importance than the position she holds in the society. Everyone who comes to the party is interested only in the luxuriance and the possibility to be at least for some time in the higher levels of the society. For example, Ellie Henderson, who is a cousin of Clarissa, is very poor, but still she would find something to wear on and to be among those people from the higher levels of society: It was an event to her, going to a party. It was quite a treat just to see the lovely clothes. They go to this party at Mrs Dalloway s to show off, to show themselves in a possibly richer way. They do not go there to meet Mrs Dalloway. She is as if only a person to meet them at the entrance. According to Viktors Ivbulis (23:1995) in Modernist fiction due to the fact that an individual is subjected to the pressure of the society he degrades and is, therefore, shown as a very small part of the society. He cannot do heroic deeds. In Virginia Woolf s novel Mrs

Every basketball fan on social media has shared their thoughts on this matchup of All Time teams. It s even gotten to the point where Scottie Pippen and Shaquille O Neal went at it with each other via Instagram. All Time Bulls Team that ll consist of Michael Jordanand Scottie Pippen taking on a Lakers team that s stacked with nothing but Hall of Famers, is an intriguing discussion but is it really a huge debate? If the two teams were to meet in let s say a seven game series, would it even be close? Some think Chicago would win while others believe that the Lakers would dominate and that I wouldn t be close. I m on the half... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... I mean you ll have Magic, who is a pass first point guard, dishing out to the likes of Kobe, Shaq, West, and Kareem on top of keeping defenders on their heels. Bulls would have to really figure out how to slow that down and I don t think Rose is the guy to really do that. I do believe the Bulls have an advantage at the Small Forward and Shooting Guard position. Yes Laker fans I would have to give the edge to Pippen over Jerry West seeing Scottie was a lot more athletic and was pretty good defensive player, while Michael Jordan and Kobe Bryant are about equal. They re very identical when you look at them on film but I give the slightest of slight edge to Jordan on this one. The huge disadvantage comes in the post where you have Kareem and Shaq for the Lakers and Horace Grant and Dennis Rodman for the Bulls. Now offensively realistically the Lakers would have an issue because A: Both Kareem and Shaq are centers and B: Both will clog up likely clog up the post, but even with that Kareem and Shaq too much for Grant and Rodman. Rodman would do whatever to grab rebounds and was a pretty good defensive player while Grant was a solid starter on some pretty good teams but when you re talking Kareem and Shaq, that s a tall task for the two offensively and defensively. The bench is also a huge advantage for the Lakers where it s

However, many peasants, although liberated, remained in their state of peasants following the old regime. These men are symbolized by Firs, an old servant for whom freedom was insignificant. He stays loyal, working in the Cherry Orchard as a serf since he had no other opportunities in life. Firs and Lohpakin on one side contrast Madame Ranevsky and Gayef her brother. The first two portraying two different ways in which emancipation affected peasants, and the last two, showing how the emancipation affected Russian aristocracy. The past is constantly mentioned by the characters in this play. Even the cherry orchard as property, is a symbol of the Old Russian regime. The end of the Old Regime therefore, is portrayed by Chekhov when at the end of the play Lohpakin becomes the owner of the estate and cuts the cherry orchard. Chekhov, as a contemporary observer, uses his play to criticize some aspects of the emancipation of 1861. The message he leaves is that although the emancipation was an important step towards freedom, it was not the only one to be made. This message, besides being given throughout the novel, is also stated by Trofimov, an idealist student who realizes how far Russia is from achieving real freedom. At the end of Act 2, Trofivom tells Anya, Madame Ranevskaya s 17 year old daughter: ...In order to start living in the present, we first have to redeem our past, make an end of it, and we can only do that through suffering... . • 15. Analysis Of The Poem Yeats Yeats has composed an effectively concise poem of only twelve lines in iambic pentameter. Iambic pentameter is harnessed to replicate human speech patterns; as if the four rhetorical questions are being posed to the reader from the speaker. The romantic and personal content of this poem creates a certain level of intimacy the reader will feel with Yeats. With a simple ABABCDCDEFEF rhyming structure there is a crucial lack of rhyming couplets (often used to accentuate a couple s closeness). Therefore a distance is already established between the speaker and their subject. Additionally, Yeats creates the emotional response to this poem by exploring historical, personal, political and classical mythological elements. Yet, at the very foreground this is a love poem, and the underlying focus on love makes this poem a typical lyric. It is important to consider the historical context of this poem. Rather, whom Yeats intended it to be aimed at. The object of Yeats affection during the period this poem was written is Irish Feminist and Revolutionary Maud Gonne; she was to be his muse and the catalyst of his poetic yearnings1. However, Gonne never accepted Yeats multiple marriage proposals which evidently (through his writings) was a great source of grief for Yeats. Furthermore, Yeats establishes a binary opposition between the speaker and the subject. The speaker who condemns the subject s vicious beauty a kind That is not natural in an age like this, is presented as a man
  • 16. What Is Language Devoid Of The Social Context Of Its... To make language devoid of the social context of its creation and use is to dislocate it from which it derives its meanings. Thus ridding it of its use with the only benefit of understanding what it is made up of. However, understanding what language is made of and understanding how to use it are two different things, neither of which will give you a complete understanding of languageon its own. Using Gardner s analogy of language being like a fish you dissect as well as observe within its habitat, to view language as devoid of its social context is to remove the fish from the ocean, the environment in which is serves its purpose. In order to understand what forms it, however, removal and dissection is necessary. Unfortunately, neither... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... An opposing argument would be that one s thoughts aren t necessarily used to communicate and yet they still use language. People talk like others and still each of us has our own unique style (Bakhtin, as cited in Gee and Hayes 2011, pg. 7). Our immediate surroundings in the early stages of development shape the language we learn to speak first. Looking at Darwin s theory of evolution (1859, cited in O Neil 2013, para. 20) and how the finches from the Galapagos Islands were all divergences of their ancestral species, the language which we develop from our social and cultural backgrounds evolves (obviously in a much faster process than that of the finches). This is the way language changes and yet remains the same. After studying language development in children, Michael Halliday identified seven functions it had for them. The first four help satisfy physical need and the last three help them understand the environment. Language is a communal resource from which we all beg borrow and steal (Gee and Hayes, 2011, pg. 7). It has also been suggested by Gee and Hayes (2011) that it would be highly likely that all human language developed from one original language. We can see a similar idea in Minna Sundberg s illustration of the Old World Language Families tree, where Indo European branched off to European, which then branched off to Germanic, West Germanic, Anglo Frisian and finally English. Even in the book of Genesis it is written that the whole word had

Essay On Electronic Vehicle Control Electronic Stability Control (ESC) ESC systems sense parameters such as yaw rate, steering wheel angle and lateral acceleration in order to detect differences between the intended and actual path of the vehicle. The system is then linked to the ABS and engine management system in order to differentially apply the brakes and/or reduce the engine power to individual wheels, thus generating yaw moments to correct the vehicles path. These systems are known by a variety of other proprietary names such as Vehicle Dynamic Controller (VDC) and Vehicle Stability Control (VSC) but are referred to generically as ESC in this report. Market penetration of ESC systems was estimated at 27% in Europe in 2002, and is expected to reach 50% in Europe by 2007 (Reed Electronics Research, 2003). Previous research indicates that ESC significantly reduced instability in test manoeuvres where substantial instability was encountered. It also suggests that ESC does not influence vehicle behaviour when a driver attempts to operate outside the physical limits of the vehicle. No significant disbenefits of ESC systems were found, and clear evidence of positive influence on safety and accident reduction was cited (Grover Knight, 2005). ESC is also now strongly recommended to all consumers by the EuroNCAP organisation (EuroNCAP, 2005). It is suggested that ESC must work to constrain vehicle behaviour to that expected by normal human driving behaviour. It does this either by producing similar

While S. is the name of the project, the story is contained in the form of a fictional book called Ship of Theseus, written by the prolific, incendiary, and ever mysterious author, V.M. Straka. What makes the story of S. so unique is that while the novel is a traditional narrative, the margins of the book are filled with scribbles, writings, notes, clues, musings and revelations from two readers, Jen and Eric. Jen, a college senior, and Eric, a former grad student and Straka researcher. I know that most oil spills usually occur in the ocean or coastal waters, but this project really made me understand how tragic just a little bit of oil could be on vegetation. The United States distributes, consumes, and even produces huge quantities of oil every single year. Over 10 million gallons of oil is spilled yearly. I can t honestly think of many ways to prevent such things from happening but one thing I do know is that we should start thinking of better ways to transport oil to reduce oil spills on land. This semester I studied the effect certain types of pollution has on plant growth. My initial hypothesis was that the pollutant would affect the plant growth excessively, and might even kill the plants in the experimental group. The results of this project were almost exactly what I predicted them to be, and ultimately my hypothesis was supported. Soil pollution is so common these days, and it mainly happens due to elements that are man made. Our waste, is so much different from things that nature itself produces. Rotten fruits and vegetables, dead animals or dead plants make the soil more fertile and unbelievably are actually really good types of food for soil. Our waste on the other hand is full of so many harsh chemicals that are obviously not originally found in nature and this is what leads to soil pollution. There are so many different things that factor into soil pollution. Things such as coal or iron mines depend solely on extracting minerals from the Earth and the by products that are used are contaminated and usually not disposed of properly. Industrial waste stays in the soil for who knows how long. One thing that a lot of people probably never think about (including myself) is the types of personal waste we contaminate the soil with. Our bodies are filled with
  • 38. The Concept Of Silence In Maxine Hong Kingston s No Name... The concept of silence and the right to public speech has always been aborted in different ways depending on the culture. American and Chinese culture differ in their interpretation of what is acceptable or not in terms of behaviours in their respective societies. Regarding silence, American women are much more encouraged to state their opinion than Chinese women. With that idea in mind, Maxine Hong Kingston shares her aunt s story and hers in No Name Woman, a nonfiction piece recalling the author s personal experiences and reflections on traditional Chinese family. Silence is present in many ways and has different purposes all throughout the story. In No Name Woman, silence is used as a way to control behaviour. The mother s emphasis on keeping this story a secret demonstrates how the aunt is being punished for her impregnation. The story starts with a warning not to tell anyone, setting an atmosphere of shameful secret even before learning about the aunt s story. Punishing someone is a form of control over the individual being punished, usually a way of diminishing a certain behavior by adding a negative stimulus. By committing a spite suicide, the aunt tries to punish her family by ruining their drinking water. Her choice of manner and location for the suicide has an important signification in Chinese culture: The Chinese are always very frightened of the drowned ones, whose weeping ghost [...] waits silently by the water to pull down a substitute (464). This passage shows how the family silence is their way of protecting themselves from the aunt s ghost by continuing to punish her, not only for her impregnation but also for her suicide. Her revenge was well chosen as her final attempt at preserving some sense of control over her faith. Given that the aunt didn t get to have a proper funeral and offends, her punishment continues after her death and remains as long as her existence falls into oblivion. As the daughter later understands, the aunt remains forever hungry, since the family s silence didn t offer her a proper way of passing through (464). Because her family, including Maxine s father and the aunt s own brother, have deliberately forgotten her, she can never truly rest in peace. The aunt
  • 39. Analysis Of Aleksandr Solzhenitsyn s One Day Of The Life... David Cheng Ms. Chappell AP English 15 November 2015 The Effect of Structure on Purpose in One Day in the Life of Ivan Denisovich One Day in the Life of Ivan Denisovich by Aleksandr Solzhenitsyn follows a Russian prison inmate, Shukhov, through a standard day in the gulag system. The novel displays Shukhov s struggle to survive through inhumane conditions and how he deals and tolerates his suppressive and endless lifestyle. The novel provides insight into the differing ideals and philosophical views that the very diverse groups of prisoners hold. By using tools such as perspective and time, Solzhenitsyn provides a platform from which he can bring multiple levels of meaning to an otherwise monotonous and uneventful account. Time plays an important role in the structure on One Day in the Life of Ivan Denisovich. The lack of chapters, sections, or parts in the book keep the narration continuous, creating the effect of an elongated day that drags on. In the following passage, Shukhov reveals the how time is perceived in the camp: No zek ever lays eyes on a clock or watch... All a zek needs to know is how soon is reveille? How long till work parade? Till dinnertime? (171) . The effect of time elongation is done with the lack of specific times; events are only described chronologically and specific times are rarely used. Personal time is a precious resource for the prisoners, or zeks. To the zeks, time in the prison camp is a contradiction because there is too much of

Equality Can Be Measured And Measure Equality Equality can be measured through various measures to understand the magnitude or scale of it social scientists use various techniques to examine and deduce the level of equality. The level of equality varies drastically across the globe, in one of the most unequal societies in generations. According to equality human rights (slide 9 equality see slide on link) equality can be seen as the ideology that each individual has an equal ability to fulfil their ambitions in life and the notion that no one individual should be worse off due to their location of birth, belivefs or disability. Equality can be categorised and analysed through many ways such as health, wellbeing and happiness. In the UK, the equality act protects citizens via the equality act 2010. If a person has been discriminated they have enough leverage and protection from the state to be able to take an individual or firm to court or tribunals. On the face of it in a general sense equality understand that due to historical circumstances specific people in society with certain charwectersitcs are statistically more likely to experience discrimination both in life and in the workplace with race and disability especially. However measuring equality can be largely more complicated and intrinsic. Many methods have been developed to examine and measure the level of equality. In my essay I will be questioning whether wellbeing is actually a good measure of equality and be examining how wellbeing can be measured and
  • 41. Argumentative Essay On The Unhealthy Food Choice In School... Argumentative Essay INTRODUCTION TO MY ESSAY: This is one of my favorite essays because it shows what I am passionate about. I had a choice to write my argumentative essay on any topic of my choice, and I decided to write it about the unhealthy food options in school lunches. I want others to know that I believe that schools should implant healthier options in their school lunches. I think that it is the schools responsibility to promote healthy eating for their students, and the way to do that is to lead by example in their school lunches. THE ESSAY: Have you ever wondered what it would be like if you had the ability to take control of your own childhood? If you had the ability to make your own choices in life without depending on authorities to mandate your every move? Schools take control of students every move from the amount of homework to the exact time that they get out of school, which they have right to do so. Although I believe that schools need to place restrictions on students, schools have to realize that their choices can directly impact students well being in either positive or negative way. Schools believe that they should not spend their money on healthy foods due to the fact that they believe students would not eat it. While all students may not want to eat healthy, there are a few examples of different students taking a stand against their unhealthy lunch options. I strongly think that schools should give students a chance to eat unhealthy. I believe that schools make a lot of great choices regarding their students, but I think they fail to realize one major flaw that they are allowing to hurt their students. They are allowing unhealthy school lunches to take over their cafeterias rather than enforcing a balanced meal. Schools have the responsibility to create healthy options for their students. As students begin to become less active and eating more unhealthy, students have to suffer from their consequences. An alarming fact is that three out of four schools [serves] too much fat in their school lunches (Hirsch, J.M.). There has to be a way to prevent this phenomenon from occurring in schools. Schools have to take some responsibility of children s aggressive weight gain throughout

Examples Of Dehumanization In Metropolis This weekend I watched on Netflix the film Metropolis (1927, Fritz Lang) and from the film I have found some detailed examples about how the movie itself expresses the German Expressionist theme of alienation/dehumanization resulting from the industrial revolution that moved laborers from agriculture/farm life to factory life in the city. The first example that relates to this theme would be when the movie begins and the underground dwelling workers toil to operate the underground machines that power the city while the higher class people are living better lives. This stands out to the theme because it provided a vivid visual of the underground dwelling workers working very hard to keep the city going and in return they weren t appreciated

This is not to say that immigration itself is inherently provocative, but simply that it initiates change to a community. By ( Nations Borders ) In different areas, immigration becomes a huge issue. The community can become really crowded and over time, the population increases by high amounts. People around the community can soon become bothered by all these immigrants and try to take action in to their own hands. For example, the immigrant s neighbors and co workers will try to deport them or take advantage of them. Although economic and demographic realities may support opening doors for immigration, such arguments mean little to voters who feel they are losing out. Despite the rough times Chuck still remains the innocent child with the big heart. He s the small, podgy, humorous 12 year old with the ugly bowl haircut amongst the big, strong, serious 16+ young adults. Thomas turned to his right to see a kid standing nearby, short and podgy, staring at him. He was young probably the youngest of any in the group he d seen so far, maybe twelve or thirteen years old. His brown hair hung over his ears and neck, scraping the tops of his shoulders. Blue eyes shone through his otherwise pitiful face, flabby and flushed. (Thomas s description of Chuck, pg.13 14). Chuck is the odd one out, and Dashner has purposely made him to stand out in order to emphasise how the others have lost a sense of their humanity. Chuck also has the ability to return and remind other characters of this lost sense, in particular Thomas. The friendship struck by these two characters is rather heartwarming. As much as Thomas tries to deny their relationship at first, he can t help but take on a big brother like role towards him. Through this connection Chuck helps us to identify the sense of humanity Tom has lost, compassion and real emotion, as well as being able to remind Tom again of what it feels like to truly love and care. Thomas stared at him, stared at his lifeless body. Something happened within Thomas. It started deep down in his chest, a seed of rage. Of revenge. Of hate. Something dark and terrible. And then it exploded, bursting through his lungs, through his neck, through his arms and legs. Through his mind . (Thomas feelings towards Chucks murder, pg.354). This emotion from Thomas was evoked by Chuck. Hate, one of humanities strongest emotions that can only truly be brought on by loving something so much. Tom s feelings towards Chuck were able to return is strong emotions and fuel his motivation.
  • 46. The Dissemination Of The Gospel There are many opinions and philosophies concerning the dissemination of the Gospel. Some believe that spreading the Gospel is unnecessary because God chooses a select few to be saved, and that these elect are unable to resist God s grace. Others teach that lifestyle evangelism is the correct method of sharing the good news of JesusChrist. Still others believe that the proper approach of sharing the Gospelis through door to door soul winning and through preaching and teaching in the church. One person s approach to the Gospel that has been widely debated is that of Anne Marbury Hutchinson. Anne was born to a clergyman influenced by the Puritanleaders. Francis Marbury, Anne s father, disagreed with the church of England and got into trouble with the Anglican leaders on separate occasions. Her father taught Anne the Bible, as a result she received a better education than most of the girls in her time. Anne Marbury married the son of merchant named William Hutchinson, they had more than a dozen children together. The Hutchinson followed the teachings of the Puritan church, specifically a reverend named John Cotton. The Reverend John Cotton was driven out of the Anglican church because of his Puritan ideology. Reverend Cotton and his wife left England to pursue a ministry in the Massachusetts Bay Colony. William and Anne Hutchinson followed their spiritual mentor to the New World a year later. Due to Anne s involvement as a midwife and herbalist, she became well known

When a person is repeatedly told they are stupid, worthless or any other degrading comments, they begin to believe them. When the abuser uses mental abuse it can be a form of control, jealousy, manipulation or even a hostile environment. Mental abuse can be very intimidating. (Rogers, 2014) It gets to the point that the assailant does not even have to speak; the victim becomes so scared of punishment that they do what is expected of them. When emotional abuse changes over to mental abuse, the attacker is reinforcing their control over the victim. The mental attacks are meant to force the victim to completely change how they think and act. This removes all free will and encourages behavior that matches the assailant s expectations and desires. This is why victims of domestic abuse become trapped in a relationship and only those closest to the victim recognizing the changes in the person. • 49. Japanese Exclusionism Pros And Cons The reasons for immigration to the land of opportunity called America in the early years of our country are clear. America was seen as a place where an individual could start over with an equal chance of success or failure, offered jobs, no matter what country he or she came from. This proved to be true for Irish immigrants, German American immigrants, English and black immigrants that came to America. However, this was not the same for many of the Japanese immigrants. One of the many challenges Japanese immigrants faced when they arrived in the United States was the efforts of politicians, intellectuals, and community leaders to label Japanese an undesirable race. Known collectively as the anti Japanese exclusion movement, these efforts ranged from introducing discriminatory legislation that discouraged further Japanese immigration, encouraging and enforcing boycotts of Japanese businesses, and spreading propaganda that offered a multitude of reasons to justify the exclusion of Japanese from the United States. The Anti Japanese Exclusion Movement came on the heels of the earlier Chinese exclusion movement. When Chinese laborers began immigrating to the U.S., especially the West Coast, in the mid nineteenth century in pursuit of work, other groups (some of which consisted of European immigrants) sought to exclude Chinese on the premise that as Asiatics or Mongolians they were inherently unassimilable. In particular, these exclusionists objected to the class background and what they argued was the questionable morality of these immigrants who were mostly laborers and (in the case of women) prostitutes, arguing that as non Christians these immigrants lacked basic morals and as such would be detrimental to American society. Using tactics ranging from brute violence to more subtle legal means particularly the Page Law and 1882 Chinese Exclusion Act these groups succeeded in barring most Chinese immigration. By identifying Chinese as inherently undesirable and therefore not worthy of being allowed into the U.S., and by laying the groundwork for associating Asia with a paranoid vision of the impending onslaught of Asian invaders (also known as yellow peril), the anti Chinese exclusion movement
