This paper argues that the em dash used in the cask of amontillado signifies that
Montresor feels remorse for his actions but rapidly recomposes himself, as the em
dash allows him to blame his feelings on account of the dampness of the catacombs
(pg.854). But, in doing so proves that perfect revenge is unattainable, and Montresor
is left to pretend that he is unable to feel empathy.

stolen from Indigenous children and their future generations. These actions were

The next factor involved was public opinion. Many were for campus carry because
they felt as if they had a fundamental right to be able to carry ( Strickland, 2016).

Target is trying to make it easier on them by putting everything in one store. Men
and women shop in very different ways. Men are more likely to make a list and
stick to and try to get in and out of class as fast as possible. Women, however, are
more likely to browse the aisles and look at everything that s in the store rather
than just what they need for themselves or the house at that moment (Wells). Target
shows the variety of items in their stores to help show the women in their store that
different items that they could find while browsing the store. By showing the
different products, it helps make the women want to go there because they can get
away from the busyness of life by spending times wondering the isles of Target.
Not only can the women get away from the stressfulness of life, if they are in a
rush they can get everything they could need in one stop. Women make up over
two thirds of the grocery shoppers (Goodman). Of course, not all of these women
are staying at home mom s or spouses so they need to get their shopping done so
that they can get back to the other parts of their lives. The same way that Target is
trying to appeal to women who like to browse when they shop, they are appealing to

A Clean Well-Lighted Place Hemingway
In A Clean, Well Lighted Place, the central theme that Hemingway suggested is
that this older deaf man s life is viewed as nothing. Nothing to live for and nothing
more to do but sit in a cafГ© and enjoy a drink. He goes to this clean cafГ© to drink
away his despair that he is unable to deal with. Even though he has the cafГ© to go
to and drinkhe still leaves with feelingover nothingness and despair. As the older
man is drinking at the cafГ© one late night, he ends up having two waiters. One of
the waiters is an older man which seems to understand why the old man drinks away
his despair. The young waiter on the other hand does not. As we read further into the
short story, we learn a little more about the older deaf man and what he has dealt...
The only way the old man can deal with this feeling now is to sit for hours in a
clean cafГ©. Due to being deaf the old man can only enjoy the silence of the
cafГ©. Although he is sitting by himself in the cafГ© it is not the same as being
alone at home. The older waiter explains this when he states, It s not the same. You
do not understand. This is a clean and pleasant cafГ©. It is well lighted. The light
is very good and also, now, there are shadows of the leaves (154). The older waiter
also uses the word nada in a prayer. Indicating that not even the lord s prayer can
help him; Our nada who art in nada, nada be thy name thy kingdom nada thy will
be nada in nada as it is in nada. Give us this nada our daily nada and nada us our

nada (154). The older waiter understands what the old man is feeling. He is also
one that has feeling of nothingness. Like he has nothing to live for like maybe he is
also viewed as nothing. Both, the waiter and old man have a feeling of loneliness.
Being at a cafГ© just helps that feeling not feel as strong to them. Drinking helps
them with the despair because it makes life predictable. They have a routine of
staying up late at the cafГ©, going home, sleeping then doing it all over again. It s

passengers who have been selected for additional screening. Passenger profiling at the
