Examples Of Metaphors In The Convergence Of The Twain
Pride, a human flaw, creates destruction and the insatiable desire for more. It leads to testing
nature and eventually to downfall. On April 14, 1912 the Titanic and its unsinkable pride collided
with an iceberg. The people onboard noticed the Iceberg too late to avoid it. In The Convergence
of the Twain , Thomas Hardy expressed his belief that fate brought down the Titanic due to human
pridethough his descriptions of the ship and its people and his descriptions of nature and the iceberg
. Hardy uses metaphors, personification, and irony to prove the ship s fate was set as soon as
humans believed her greater than nature. By comparing the ship to beautiful inanimate objects, the
reader can see the destruction and uselessness of beauty. The Titanic is jewels in joy designed to
attracted the sensuous mind. The Titanic, beautifully crafted by thousands of hands and great
patience stunned and mesmerized the human mind just as jewels do. The ship s beauty did not
aid it in the end. The ship now lie[s] lightless with all it s shine bleared and black and blind. This
beauty s final destination ends in the cold ocean waters lying useless and dull as fated. People
created this ship with an enormous pride that even the ship could not contain it, its crown set too
high. It tested nature with its vanityand nature retaliated. Hardy criticizes the ship on her pride,
where she only has herself to blame. Hardy uses personification to give the ship life and personality.

The Impact of Public Announcements on the Stock Prices
Allocating the ownership of economy s stock capital is the primary role of capital market. In an
ideal market the price would provide accurate signals for allocation of resources. Ideal market is
one in which firm s production investment decisions and investor s decision regarding securities
will depend on the assumption that the security prices fully reflect available information at any
point in time. A market in which prices always fully reflect available information is called efficient.1
Anamika Sharma (2009) conducted a study to investigate the impact of public announcement of
open offer by testing the semi strong form of efficiency to draw inferences on the efficiency of
stock market through market adjusted abnormal model. The results of the study support that stock
market is not efficient in semi strong form and that open offer created a substantial value for
shareholders of company during the study period.2
S. Basu (1997) tested for the information content of price earnings multiple. He tested to see
whether low P/E stocks outperform stocks with high P/E ratios. If historical P/E ratios provided
useful information for obtaining higher stock returns then it would be refutation of semi strong
form of efficient market hypothesis. His results indicated that low P/E portfolios provided superior
returns relative to the market and high P/E provided inferior returns relative to the market. The
results reported in this paper indicate that P/E ratio information was not fully

Importance Of Communication Between Parents And Parents
The significance of communication between educators and parents has been studied and stressed
for many years because of its impact on academic achievement and success of students. Parental
involvement can have a remarkable effect on the academic achievement of students.
Epstein (2008) found that when parents are involved with their child s education that more
students earn higher grades in English and math, improve their reading and writing skills,
complete more course credits, set higher aspirations, have better attendance, come to class more
prepared to learn, and have fewer behavior problems... (pg. 10). A huge problem is that many
parents face today are work schedule with two parents working families or single parent family not
being able to connect with the school not being able to find the time due to work schedules.
Often times the only when a behavior or an academic crisis happen teachers reach out to parents.
Likewise when a parent experience a problem academically or socially with their child will a
parents reach out to talk to a teacher. Technology is making communication much easier between
parents and teachers.
The most common of the communication between teachers and parents is based off of grades,
attendance and behaviorally. Four times a year teachers are in communication with parents due to
grades and sometimes in between the grade periods if a child is struggling. Some school districts use
printed report copies and send them home with students

Parent and Child Relationships of Oedipus Rex and Live Alone
In society, the sense of family is one of the core values in life. One of the most common
relationships in a family is that of the parent and child. Throughout history, playwrights have
composed pieces containing the impressionable relationship of a parent and a child. Sophocles and
Deborah Salem Smith effectively use the strained relationships of Oedipusand Jocasta, and Helen
Warren and Clementine to develop their plays Oedipus Rex and Love Alone. While both plays
contain parentand child relationships, the type of relationship proves to be radically different. In
Oedipus Rex, Jocasta serves as the Queen of Thebes and Oedipus is an abandoned son of
Jocasta and current king of Thebes. In the beginning of the play, Oedipus, happily married to
Jocasta, has several children with the Queen. Jocasta s first husband was King Laius, and
together they gave birth to Oedipus. Jocasta and Laius heard a devastating prophecy, which
stated that their son was going to kill his father and marry his mother. In order to avoid this
prophecy, Jocasta and Laius bound Oedipus s ankles and left him on a mountainside to die.
Ironically, Jocasta and Oedipus relationship was doomed the second Oedipus was born. In the
play Love Alone, Susan, Helen Warren s partner and Clementine s biological mother dies due to
complications while under surgery. The death of Susan, causes Clementine s and Helen s
relationship to become closer than ever before, although at first it seems to be a little to close

Stakeholders In The Community
Stakeholders are the lifeblood of the decision processes for any organization and how stakeholders
are affected by organizational decisions has kept many a manager up at night. In the mental health
segment of the industry, my organization acts independently of others with little competition due to
catchment agreements. That is not to say there is not a situation where frustrations with Carey
Counseling Center would not deter someone from seeking services elsewhere. Therefore, the
community is directly affected by the actions of CCC along with the patients. CCC is the employer
of several employees in several counties which would also make them directly affected. Though
CCC is part of an interconnected community mental health system in conjunction

Reoccurring Themes In Dubliners By James Joyce
In Counterparts , in the collection Dubliners by James Joyce, many themes are developed over the
course of the short story. Farrington is oppressed by his boss and at home and he cannot stand
being controlled by his smaller boss and his monotonous work. He finds comfort in the bar,
however this comfort turns into his humiliation and anger again. His anger towards the characters
due to being bossed around and his own clumsiness controlling him is a reoccurring theme in the
story. Farrington s anger towards his boss happens due to his own fault. He is incompetent at the
workplace, and cannot make copies of legal documents for his job. This incompetence is going to
continue, and he will continue to mess up in the future, and continue to

Magnet School Webpage Analysis
We live in a social media world and schools and teachers must be up to date with the latest
technology. A time where people have the capabilities to look up information about the school their
children will attend. It used to be a child went to the school in his/her neighborhood, no questions
asked. Now parents have the opportunity to send their children to schools that are not in their
neighborhoods, like magnet schools. Thanks to technology schools not well known to parents can
be Googled. Once a schoolwebsite is found parents can see the latest information on the schools
academia or arts program. School webpages where to inform parents about schools. However,
school webpages are becoming more and more like billboards. Too much information about one

The Pearl Harbor Essay
The Pearl Harbor Spies On 7 December 1941, the Japan Naval fleet launched a precise and
devastating bombing of Pearl Harbor, which stunned the United States. The Japanese attacked
Pearl Harbor to neutralize the U.S. Pacific Naval Fleet, so they could advance into Malaya and the
Dutch East Indies to access natural resources to further their war effort. However, the Pearl Harbor
bombing became an everlasting memory to Americans. Two little known contributors to this event
had a profound effect on the planning and execution of the attack. This paper will explore the
actions of Bernard Julius Otto Kuehn and Takeo Yoshikawa, two spies who initially went
undetected to collect intelligence on the U.S. Naval fleet, and how their actions affected the U.S.
Background
Bernard Julius Otto Kuehn served as a midshipman in the German Navy during World War I and
was a member of the German Navy s secret police from 1928 through 1930. Kuehn also studied
to become a physician after World War I. When the Nazi party took control in Germany, Dr.
Kuehn became a minor official in the Nazi secret police, or Gestapo, and formed close ties with
the head of the organization, Heinrich Himmler. Kuehn was married to Friedel Kuehn and had two
children, Hans Joachim, six years old, and Suzie Ruth, seventeen years old (Jamison, 2014). At the
age of 17, Ruth was a very beautiful, which caught the attention of the Nazi Propaganda Minister
Joseph Goebbels. Soon after, Ruth became a mistress to the

Canada Health Act Essay
The Undermining of the Canada Health Act
Abstract
In the past, Canada s government funded, universally accessible, health care system has been
praised and admired both at home and abroad as one of the finest in the world. A great source of
pride and comfort for many Canadians is that it is based on five fundamental principles. Principles
that are a reflection of the values held by Canadian citizens since the formation of Medicare in
1966. These principles were reinforced in the Canada Health Act, (CHA), of 1984 and state that the
Canadian system is universal, accessible, portable, comprehensive and non profit.
With increasing concerns of debts and deficits, Canada s publicly funded health care system has
recently become the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Accessibility and quality are being threatened due to cutbacks coupled with a lack of funding.
There is a consensus now between medical professionals, the public, and the government that the
health care system is deteriorating. It is failing to provide the quality of care promised in the CHA
and prided by so many Canadians.
Yet the strings on the public purse continue to tighten. Transfer payments from the federal
government continue to decrease as provincial debt loads increase. And, although the minister of
health and the premier assured them that the costs of health care were doubling or even tripling,
Albertans have witnessed a steady decline in government spending on health care. The proportion
of gross domestic product, (GDP), which Alberta allocates to health care is ranked last among the
ten provinces, (Taft, 1997). Albertans now find themselves with a struggling health care system and
a waiting list.
The proposed solution from current Alberta government would see the health care system
incorporate the private sector. The government Most of all the government is looking to decrease
cost, increase accessibility and efficiency. ***** .
Universality and Accessibility vs. Choice
Universality and accessibility go hand in hand. They are the principles that assure that each
Canadian regardless of financial situation, will have equal opportunity to access the same level of
care. The lack of a private market in

Optometrist Job Application Essay
What began as mere admiration for my childhood optometrist quickly evolved into a fervent
aspiration when I began working as an optometric technician at Eye Vision Care. Having been
myopic since the age of 6, I have always had an interest in the inner workings of the eye and
decided to apply to this job, without any concrete career plans in mind.
Working at EVC, I have had the unique privilege of learning from six different doctors and have
been able to observe the various characteristics of each. From taking the time to thoroughly educate
patients on eye health, to creating strong personal relations with them, their practices allow me to
envision the type of optometrist I plan to become. One of the most important skills I have learned
from my employment is an intense attention to detail. Although each of the six doctors have distinct
approaches to eye care, they have all impressed upon me the value of taking pride in my work,
demanding nothing less than excellence from their employees. ... Show more content on

The Pros And Cons Of Roe Vs. Wade
Roe vs. Wade changed the law for abortions, and made women feel more secure if they can t
handle a child. The idea for future laws is to ensure that women maintain power over their
bodies, but do not dominate over the law and use exceptions for abortion. The problem is that
pro choice women and pro life women have many clashing ideas that make it hard to organize
one final law. Pro choice women believe that abortions should be allowed to a certain extent.
SOme even believe it can be a form of birth control, and that there should be no limit of uses. Pro
life women do not agree with the idea of abortion, and think it is crossing the line of the law, since
it involves a fetus. The facts from articles in use show the contrasting sides of each... Show more

Pro choice women believe in their rights from the Constitution to help defend them, however. The
Constitution protects the women s privacy. The First Amendment, Fourth Amendment, and Ninth
Amendment all give broad, unmentioned privacy on abortions. Since unmentioned, the women
have protection and can control their own bodies (Chinn, ...). They give an extension to privacy
in marriage and procreation/contraception. Pregnancy may also have a toll on some women.
Maternity may cause a poor life for the women in many ways. Mental and physical health may
be damaged with having to care for a baby. Exhaustion can affect mental or physical health and
take away the control women feel. Women need to be able to care for themselves and care for
the tolls that pregnancy may cause. Other women have trouble financially supporting a lifestyle
with a baby involved. They do not want to bring a baby into the world suffering because women
cannot afford one. The states should not force a baby when women cannot care for it financially.
Emotional health is also fragile when pregnant and feeling burdened with a baby. Babies require
much care and some women cannot afford to give it. Some women have trouble caring for
themselves and fell they shouldn t care for a baby if they are not ready. These women feel that just
because they re having sex does not mean they are allowing pregnancy. Many couples precautions

Role Of Destruction In Macbeth
Macbeth s Destruction Some have experienced a time when they have done the inevitable in
retrieving what they want; however, very few have done appalling actions in achieving their goal.
What many do not understand is these actions could guide anyone to their end, along with anyone
or anything who has influenced in the process. In Shakespeare s play, The Tragedy of Macbeth,
Macbeth s desperate measures are caused by his influences in gaining what he desires; be that as it
may, lead to the foundation of his destruction. Throughout the play, the whole reason why Macbeth
begun this deranged plan in becoming king in the first place was caused by the three witches. For

Once Macbeth was told his future by the witches, he spoke about how stars, hide your fires/ let
not light see my black and deep desires. (I. 4. 50 51). It is indicated that Macbeth has his mind
set in gaining his desires and making them come true. However, it is stated that Macbeth s loss
of freedom is reflected in the diminishing proportion of thought to deed that characterizes his
behavior in the course of the play (Cantor). As Macbeth uses his ambition to his advantage, he
slowly loses his freedom because he is losing his humanity by killing. For instance, he states
how it is For mine own good/ All causes shall give way/ I am in blood stepped in so far that
/ should I wade no more. (III. 4. 135 137). Macbeth s ambition leads him to believe that everything
he is doing, is for his own well being; that it was his right to become king, no matter what the costs.
The original Macbeth assumed the kingship, perhaps reviving his father s claim (Woolf). Both

The Depquisition Of Berendsen
1 Major way in which a company can grow.
The two major ways in which a company can grow are the organic growth or the inorganic growth.
Inorganic growth is a system of expanding the company by means of joining together with other
companies to form what one may call a conglomerate. Inorganic growth involves mergers and take
overs. A merger occurs when two firms come together or join together in order to share resources of
the two organisations. A merger helps enhance the two organisations which have joined to share
resources and management skills for the benefit of both organisations which now work under one
management structure. On the other hand take overs include acquisitions of a firm by another. In

Isopropanol Research Paper
Many people assume alcohol is nothing more than liquor or rubbing alcohol; however, this is not
the case. There are many different types of alcohol including some of the alternate fuels we put
into our vehicles. Over the course of my working life I have come into contact with many different
alcohols, but Isopropyl Alcohol, or 2 propanol, was one of the ones that I encountered the most and
I have always wondered exactly what it is. 2 propanol is a very interesting molecule and has a lot of
uses for products in many different markets. Because of this, many people come into contact with it
and do not even know it. There are many important advances going on with the development of
isopropanol that could potentially change our lives. Although, it is important to know and

Typically isopropanol is found in its liquid form because it is not easy to freeze with a freezing
point of 88.3В°C. Not only does 2 propanol have a low freezing point, but it also ignites easily
with a flash point, the temperature in which a liquid can ignite in air, of 12В° C, but it also
denser than air when vaporized (ILPI). So, if there was a fire and some became vaporized, it
could potentially cause a large explosion. Another interesting thing about isopropanol is how it is
soluble in many different liquids such as alcohol, water, ether, chloroform, benzene, and most
organic solvents. This means that you can create many different substances out of propanol that
could potentially be used in places that you would not expect. Such as a chemical we use at my

Predestination to Choose
Perspectives on Church
Predestined to Choose First, predestination must be defined so that a contrast can be made with
free will. Predestination is the divine foreordaining of all that will happen. Predestination deals
with the question of the control God has over the world, it also refers to the belief that God
appointed the eternal destiny of some (the elect) to salvation by grace, while leaving the remainder
(the reprobate) to receive eternal damnation for all their sins. Free will, However, will be defined to
mean a person which has the ability and awareness to choose whether they will accept Jesus Christ
as their Savior or not. By trying to understand what scripture has to say on free will and
predestination, and analyzing what other theological thinkers say, brings up the question, can one be
more accurate than the other? What we believe as Christians does (and should) affect how we live.
How Christians view the relationship between divine sovereignty and human freedom has a direct
bearing on how they respond to various issues in their lives. For example, [T]he missionary

her present plans and leading her in another direction. ... Another [may] conclude that he is not

Plot Structure Of The Kite Runner
Khaled Hosseini and Arundhati Roy s novels are devised in such a way that the plot structures are
exact parallels. Thus, they can successfully use the same plot structure to portray two divergent
effects of losing one s innocence in a traumatic event. The plot structure of the novels also
reinforces the idea of innocence. The plot structure for The Kite Runner is chronological, but the
plot structure for The God of Small Things is circular. In his novel, The Kite Runner, Hosseini
begins to dive into the distinction by beginning the novel with introducing the main character, Amir,
and his friend Hassan. Hosseini makes sure to note that the two boys are from different religious
clans, and so their friendship is looked down upon. Hosseini... Show more content on

The God of Small Things is out of sequence because the novel is jumbled. As a result, Arundhati
Roy uses this to reinforce the idea of a circular plot structure, where the characters are unable to
break free of the cycle. Estha tried to protect Rahel from losing her innocence once the
Orangedrink Lemondrink man molested him, but he was unable to, and as a result the twins end
up having sex at the end of the novel. However, in his novel The Kite Runner Khaled Hosseini
portrays Amir as unable to save Hassan from the rape that takes place, and instead shows Amir
protecting Sohrab, Hassan s son, who was also raped by the same person.
CONCLUSION: In both novels, Arundhati Roy and Khaled Hosseini took careful consideration
when conveying their message to readers. They both utilize similar story plots, plot structure, and
symbols that represent similar meanings. As an author, Khaled Hosseini clearly describes Amir s
journey and his reactions to specific events throughout the novel, crafting his responses in clever
ways. Arundhati Roy also employs the same technique in her novel, choosing to use a similar plot
structure, but having the characters react differently to the scenarios they face. Amir, for example,
chooses to take control of his future not allowing his past to affect his decisions, and thus Hosseini
portrays him as hopeful for the future. However, Roy, chooses to end the novel with the twins,

Geochemical Tracers Essay
4.2 Geochemical tracers
Due to recent advances in both quick analytical techniques for large numbers of samples and
numerical source apportioning models that allow a more detailed and quantitative understanding of
the uncertainty associated with estimated results, the geochemical tracers are extensively used in
recent sediment fingerprinting studies (Franz et al. 2013; Grimes et al. 2007). Such as rare earth
elements (REE; e.g., La, Ce, Pr, Nd, Sm, Eu, Gd, Tb, Dy, Ho, Er, Tm, Yb and Lu), major
elements (e.g., Fe, K, Na, Al, Ca and Mg) and trace elements (e.g., As, Ba, Co, Cr, Cs, Hf, Sc, Ta,
Ti, Th and Zr), in both source soil and sediment samples, have been used in sediment fingerprinting
studies (Horowitz et al. 2012; Hughes et al. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Natural geogenic REE signatures sometimes may be a potential proxy for identifying lacustrine
sediment sources and soil erosion rates (Wen et al. 2014). Though REEs has many advantages,
owning its relatively high cost, REEs have not been extensively used.
There are three approaches that can account for potential differences in sediment geochemistry
relating to particle size and mineralogy. One commonly used way of normalization is to use
measured bulk concentrations in the total sediment sample to account for differences in sediment
geochemistry. The diluting effects of non reactive constitutes (e.g., coarse sediment, quartz and
feldspar grains) can be removed. The second way of normalization is to divide the concentration of
the potential tracer by the concentration of the conservative element (e.g., Al, Ti and Li). The third
method is to incorporate a correction factor into the mixing model (Collins et al. 1998). Moreover,

Comparing Osage Creation Account And The Navajo Creation Myth
Today, there are many theories on how the world was created however people have been
speculating on how the Earth was created for years. It dates all the way to the Native Americans.
The story The Osage Creation Account and The Navajo Creation Myth have both similarities
and differences. First, both stories put strong emphasis on nature. Secondly, The Osage Account
focuses on one specific animal whereas the Navajo Myth touches on many different creatures.
Thirdly, both stories each have a completely different version on how the world was created.
Initially, both stories start off giving background on a natural setting. The Osage begins telling
about how the Wazha zhe people lived in the sky. It also tells that the Moon and the Sun were the
people s parents. In comparison to the Osage, the Navajo Myth talks about a person Named
Begochiddy visiting the Lukatso, which is bamboo. This person also sends up a badger to view
the new world that there were to go to next. As each story progresses, each one goes into even more
detail about nature.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
After the Osage people were sent to Earth to live, many animals came with them, however, the
story said, of all these the elk was the finest . The elk was the animal that sent the winds to make
the earth habitable by sending the winds, making the soil soft, and growing plants. Unlike the
Osage Account, in the Navajo Myth Begochiddy sends a badger up to see the new world. Then the
story goes on to talk about how Begochiddy sent up seven different types of storms to mold and
shape the earth, and the story finally ends talking about the Lukatso

Similarities And Differences Between Van Gogh And Monet
Vincent van Gogh and Claude Monet are two highly influential contributors to the art world. Both
are renowned artists whose creations are on display in several art museums throughout the world.
They are two artistic geniuses who are more alike than they appear to be. While there are many
similarities between the lives and art of these two prodigies there are numerous differences as well
in their technique/style, subject matter, and personal lives. Technique and style are two things that
an artist develops in order to define themselves. It acts as a trademark and it is what makes an artist
s work unique. Van Gogh and Monet have incredibly similar techniques and styles, however, it is
the disparities within them that make them distinct. The... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
During his Dutch period, Van Gogh s subject matter was primarily focused on the lifestyle of the
poor and the bible (Dubecky). In his French period, Van Gogh had begun to shift his focus to
drawing nude figures and portraits. Monet, conversely, liked to paint his subject matters in
series. He would paint the same subject at different times of the day in different lights (Brown
1536). Some series that he painted included water lilies, bridges, and haystacks. Something that
Van Gogh and Monet both really took passion in is basing their art on their life experiences.
They both painted their surroundings such as landscapes, seascapes, and people around them.
Van Gogh would also draw still lifes of food and would paint paintings based on his emotions
during his recovered bouts of mental illness. Van Gogh and Monet had both lived exceptionally
different lives. Van Gogh did not start off wanting to become an artist, he was actually very
interested in theology and had eventually become a minister. It had seemed as though Van Gogh
had found his calling. Unfortunately, he was released from the church after his generosity had
betrayed him. While trying to help miners, he gave away all of his clothes and was only left with
a cloth. The church committee overseeing Van Gogh let him go because he did not dress or
preach eloquently. This led to Van Gogh gaining an interest in art which would lead him to go to
an art school in Paris to

Marx s The Capitalist System
Marx believed that the capitalist system causes the world s wealth to be concentrated in the
hands of the greedy few, inflicting an even bigger gap between the rich and the working class.
Needless to say there is always going to be never ending tensions between these two classes,
especially since our society has been split between the 99% of the working class and the 1% of
the privileged people getting richer every single day. When there are no principles of order and
no boundaries of rules, the free market is able to produce more than what the capitalist can sell.
However, when too much of one product is made, the value and the demand of the product
decreases, showing red flags of what Marx s calls a period of overproduction. It concludes that
the supply is greater than the demand, creating a cost instead of a profit for the capitalist since
that have to sell what they overproduced. Regardless of this, it is important to know that
overproduction isn t seen as a problem for the rest world unless they are the owners of the means
of production the capitalist class because it only matters in the concept of profit. The reason
behind it as described earlier is if too much was produced and the demand isn t as high, profit
would decrease due to the unbalance of the equation. It makes more sense in Marx s words which
he states, So long as the most urgent needs of a large part of society are not satisfied, or only the
most immediate needs are satisfied, there can of course be

Making A Criteria For Accepting Books
in charge to develop a criteria for accepting books. Once this committee evaluates which books
could be a good option to be used, the committee sends a list of the books that the teachers might
use. Then it becomes of matter of each teacher s preference; however, Mrs. Espinoza addressed
that changes have been made since the implementation of the Common Core Standards. What is
occurring nowadays, she said, each teacher take the Common Core and apply it to current lesson
plans using the Basal or whatever they use, and for a whole year, just to see, what they are
already doing and how it falls under the Common Core . Mrs. Valencia pointed that material
selection is very different in the 5th and 6th grades. She explained that since it is novel based
program, these grades do not follow any basal reader or readingseries type of textbooks. The
students are the ones who select the books they plan to read during the schoolyear. To select these
book, the students complete an interest inventory at the beginning of the school year; then, Mrs.
Valencia and the Literature teacher, Mrs. Jacob plan together the activities that they will deliver;
however, the students are guided through the process of their book selection and they complete this

The Greek Storage Jar ( Amphora ) Depicting Man And Boy
The Greek Storage Jar (Amphora) depicting man and boy was created around 550 540 BCE. It
was found in Ancient Greece. The amphora storage jar is made out of terracotta and it is eleven
inches in height. Then it was painted on with black and brown paint. This jars colors are used to
create contrast, the lines are used to unify it, the shapes on the object are the most important part
of the image and patterns are used on the jar to help fill the space on the jar. Therefore colors are
used to create contrast. There are three different colors on the jar: the natural colorof the terracotta,
the brown paintand the black paint. Since terracotta is a neutral color it provides an excellent
background for the painting. Black is a very dark color and it makes the people and the designs
stick out. People use black paint when they want their design to be important. Brown is a neutral
color and it is used to show the not so prominent part of the image. The little bit of brown paint
shows the ground the people are standing on. It also unifies the other places where it appears.
Looking at the top there is a pattern painted with both the black and brown paint to show contrast.
After contrast is seen unity is also seen with lines. Lines are used to unify the artistic image on the
Greek storage jar. The thicker the line the more important it is, the thinner the line the less
important it is. The lines create objects which then create the entire image. Many different patterns

Grief Scenarios
Introduction.
The question for this reflective journal was to demonstrate how I would assist a patient that has
gone through a traumatic event. Therefore, I have decided to create a scenario to practically show
the steps I would take during each stage of grief.
Scenario
Erin Reuben is a 26 year old female that just finished her degree in teaching. She is a newlywed
and on her honeymoon, she and her husband went horseback riding. She fell off the horse and the
horse stepped on her right leg. The trauma was so severe that they could not save the leg and that
she was amputated roughly 10cm above the knee.
Treatment.
It is important to remember that a person that went through a traumatic experience is not in the
same state of mind as a regular ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Seeing and hearing that she is still able to achieve great things could motivate her to push forward
and give her the drive to live her life.
Acceptance
This is the final stage of grief. This is when the patient starts to make peace with what happened to
them and they start to move on. Common phrases used are: There is nothing I can do about it so I
might as well make the best of it.
Erin will start to grow accustomed to her life as an amputee. She will start getting into a routine
and become more and more independent. She will still have various struggles in her day to day life
but she would have worked through the traumatic event.
When a patient reaches this stage, it does not mean that their treatment is over. You must always be
available to listen to any problems that the patient needs to discuss. Try to keep an eye on their
emotion and psychological state.
A patient can easily slip back into depression and therefore we as practitioners need to constantly be
vigilant to identify any problems or needs and try to help a patient through

How To Avoid Bed Bugs
Bed bugs are 3/16 1/4 inch long (apple seed sized) with a brown, flattened, oval shaped body.
They feed off human blood, but unlike lice, do not reside on your person after feeding. However,
they may hitch a ride on your clothing and luggage.
Bed bugs are making a comeback, possibly because of increased resistance to insecticides, and from
international travelers. Bedbugs can infest the cleanest of motels or hotels. Even some of the most
expensive places have had them. The good news about these pests is that there are no known cases
of disease transmission from them.
The best way to avoid these insects, is never using sleeping lodging except your own sleeper cab.
One exception to this rule is if you transport items that shelter bedbugs

Bipolar Disorder And Manic Depression
Bipolar Disorder, formally known as Manic Depression, is a mental disorder where an individual
suffers from abnormal mood swings, experiencing both highs and lows (Hockenbury others,
2015, pg. 585). Severe depression with bouts of irrational happiness, and ecstasy are all
symptoms an individual with bipolar disorder may experience (Hockenbury others, 2015, pg
585). DSM 5, 2013 states, a small percentage of Bipolar disorder experience only manic episodes
. When someone is in mania they feel like they are on top of the world, they are extremely happy
and sure of themselves but often are making irrational decisions. This mood can last for long
periods of time, during this time they will not sleep much and yet still be able to function.
Although these individuals to think they are happy during their manic states they are not, these
manic episodes are extreme and can be debilitating to not only the individual but their family as
well. Post mania state, these individuals will then fall into a severely depressive state where they
have long periods of feeling hopeless and feeling worthless. Sometimes a person with bipolar
disorder can have some speech difficulties where they slur or speak too fast, Hockenbury others,
2015 state it s the person trying to keep up with the racing thoughts in their heads. These thoughts
are often categorized as a flight of ideas, where the person jumps from topic to topic. It is also

Tutankhamun s Death Mask Research Paper
Ancient Egypt is one of the most well known ancient civilisations and has an extremely deep
history. Tutankhamun s Death Mask is one of the most famous artefacts from ancient Egypt. This
artefact was discovered by Howard Carter in early November of 1922, although it was not dug up
until the 26th of November 1922. To a vital extent, the discovery of Tutankhamuns Death Mask has
improved modern understanding of ancient Egypt. The context, purpose and significance of
Tutankhamun s death Mask are strong points to understanding ancient Egypt.

The mask is used as a ritual mask commonly made for royal peoples who have died. They are made
for the comfort and guidance into the eternal afterlife (Alchin. 2017). Another reason it was made is
to reward the king for his accomplishments. Tutankhamun being the youngest King had
accomplished great things, so his peoples rewarded him with the mask. Tutankhamun achieved
great things, he turned Egyptian religion to Thebes, he restored the buildings, he put the Gods back
into their place and he utilized council well although he was only nine. (HRF, 2016). Carter himself

systems about afterlife and they had similar recognition to people who have died. Therefore, the
purpose of Tutankhamun s is to thank him for ruling and guide him into eternal after

Emma Goldman Essay
Many individuals have had an influence on the United States and globally, both in the positive and
negative sense. One example of a positive influencer on the world was Emma Goldman. She faced
injustice from an early age, which contributed to her interest and eventual involvement in political
and radical movements. Growing up Jewish in an anti Semitic country, Goldman and her family
experienced oppression and discrimination firsthand. Goldman often had heroines that she looked
up to as a child whom also sparked her motivation to make a change ( The Emma Goldman Papers
). Through her lifetime, Goldman made her mark in a variety of reforms and anarchist movements,

Her continuous resistance and determination eventually led to an increased acceptance of free
speech in America. However, the United States was not the only country in which Goldman made
her impact. Many other activists in continents such as Asia, Europe, and South America were
inspired by her fight for social justice, including her anarchist and feminist ideals. Furthermore,
her time spent in countries such as Russia and France allowed her to speak out directly to the
citizens and government there. In all, thanks to Emma Goldman s perseverance in regards to
reforms, her positive influence was strongly felt both in the United States as well as globally.
Next, Emma Goldman influenced many aspects of politics and society in America through
reforms. She touched on a variety of topics and issues that even other anarchists and leftists
deemed too radical to focus on. As previously stated, Goldman fought for women s rights and free
speech, as well as against war. Yet this was not all that she advocated for. For example, Goldman
became heavily involved in the fight for better workers rights shortly after coming to America and
realizing the poor quality of the working conditions and the mistreatment of workers. Similarly to
how she found contradiction in America s promise of freedom of speech and simultaneous silencing
of anyone speaking against the government and system of the country, she also

Describe How Several Ways Mineral Crystals Can Form
1.What is a mineral, as geologists understand the term? How is this definition different from the
everyday usage of the word?
To a geologist, a mineral is naturally occurring solid, formed by geologic processes that have a
crystalline structure and a definable chemical composition. Its internal structure characterized by an
orderly arrangement of atoms, ions, or molecules in a crystalline lattice. Almost all minerals are
inorganic, for instance, sugar is an organic chemical in which is made by carbon, hydrogen, and
oxygen that it is not a mineral.
2.Why is glass not a mineral?
A glass isn t a mineral because crystalline structure in which the atoms make up a mineral aren t
distributed randomly and cannot move around easily, and the atoms in a glass aren t arranged in
an orderly pattern. Moreover, both minerals and glasses are solids, and they can retain their shape,
but a mineral is crystalline ,and glass is not because the atoms, ions, or molecules are the elements
in a mineral are ordered into a crystal lattice, and glass doesn t has those elements and disorderly
arrange.
3.Describe the several ways that mineral crystals can form.

Gender Ethnicity in Medicine
Question No. 1
As per the available literature, the possible disciplines showing are epidemiology,
pathophysiology, management, research outcomes and clinical research. In these categories of
management research, endocardinology, cardiology and neurology are the main areas where sex
/ gender differences are most visible. In order to make one aware of the gender differences that
exist in major areas of medicine, it is necessary to make one s self aware of the research that is
currently taking place and stay up to date. Since there are various studies to establish which areas
of medicine have been subjected to gender differences, therefore, going through research papers
that would entail the necessary statistical adjustments would make the medical practitioner aware
of the areas where these differences have been actually exercised. As per research conducted by
Prigione et al. in 2010, various areas of medicine and the respective research statistics have proved
the discrepancies in the various areas of medicine concerning gender differences. Making one s self
aware of these trends would help the medical practitioner aware of the recent models.

Great Expectations Analysis
Every character was written has a backstory that contributes to the plot. In Charles Dickens ,
Great Expectations, every character from Pip to Molly has a secret that adds to the storyline.
Great Expectations sets in the early nineteenth century, therefore social class is everything.
Passed down from generation to generation, family businesses have kept the family from moving
up in society. For Pip, the protagonist, that s all he truly wants; Pip wants to become a
gentleman and become worthy of his love, Estella, despite being a poor orphan and an
apprentice of a blacksmith. Similar to Dickens rough childhood, Pip didn t want this family or
their struggle to define him. However, even the rich have their problems. For example, Miss
Havisham lets her past affects how she lives on a day to day basis. One unfortunate event has led
her to live her life in sorrow and depression and it affects everyone around her, especially her
adopted daughter, Estella. Even, the convict, Abel Magwitch, lets his past encounters command his
future actions. Under the consequences, Charles Dickens, characters from Great Expectations, like
Pip, Miss Havisham, Estella, and Magwitch, have all let their past affect their future, as a result, the
plot.
It all started with Dickens himself, he had a rough childhood that was somewhat similar to the
main character, Pip. Both were raised in England and put to work at a very young age. However,
Dickens had parents, but his father was in prison and his

older around older people. Holden also mentions the history museum a lot one is because he

museum was that everything always stayed right where it was. Nobody d move . This can
relate to many teenagers because they are scared of change and want to stay the same they re

The Problem Of Teen Depression Stigma
Teen Depression Stigma It is proven that one in five teens experience depression. Depression is a
condition where a person feels hopeless, not motivated, or not interested in life, lasting at least 2
weeks or longer. There is an urgency to start talking about dealing with this because suicide is the
third leading cause of death in teens and fifteen percent of teens have actually considered suicide.
According to Amy Sutton 55% of the population without depression don t consider it to be an
actual disease. This stigma is making it close to impossible for teens to say they are going
through depression. Some people say it is just a phase , kids cannot get depression , or people
with depression are crazy . The contributing factors of rational thought, the stigma, judgement, and
fear of treatment make dealing with the depression that much more difficult. In the last few
years, studies have proven that at least one in five teens have had at least one depressive episode
before going into college. The Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) acknowledged,
In 2000, around 3.5 million high school students have suicide ideation, two million have made
specific suicide plans, and 1 million have made suicide attempts. . The CDC mentioned, in the
early 2000s depression in teens had been common, and it has gotten worse yet. Young children and
young adults could go without treatment or diagnoses because they were just being kids or just
being a teenager . It is true

The Violence Of Domestic Violence
Cycle of Violence in Domestic Violence
As stated by the Executive Office of Public Safety and Security, domestic violence is defined as a
pattern of coercive and controlling behaviors and tactics used by one person over another (by or to
any household member) to gain power and control. This may include verbal abuse, financial abuse,
emotional, sexual, and physical abuse. (The Official Website of the Executive Office of Public
Safety and Security.)
Domestic abuse frequently becomes more often and dangerous over time.
After researching
Lenore E. Walker, Executive Director of the Domestic ViolenceInstitute, studied, researched and
interviewed hundreds of women victims of domestic violence and came to the conclusion that
many violent relationships follow a similar pattern. In 1979, Walker developed a social cycle
theory cycle that explains the behaviors involved in a domestic abuse. This cycle developed by
her, could take days months or years to develop, it is different for each relationship and not all
follow the pattern, and not all necessarily lead to physical abuse.
The Cycle of abuse developed by L. E. Walker includes the following 3 phases:
Tension building Tension builds over common domestic, daily problems. Verbal abuse begins. The
abused person tries to help the situation by pleasing the abuser, giving in or avoiding the situation,
what do not stop the violence. The tension continues, reaches a boiling point and the abuse begins.

Essay On Battle Of Canada
Because of the war, we became the lord of the world. It spent us forty years to spread before we
unified again. They were the words America and Germany used to describe World War Two. One
of the other countries which was also very important was called Canada. .During World War Two,
they won a lot of battles such as Battle of Dieppe , Battle of Ortona and Normandy Landing as
well. The three battles were very important for Canadabecause they were the sign to show how
brave and independent Canada was, how they were as strong as an independent country rather than
a colony as well as their faith for the victory of World War Two.
The first important battle for Canada was called Battle of Dieppe. It was also one of the most

during the Italy Campaign. It took place in the small port town of Ortona. Two main countries
that joined the fight were Germany and Canada. When Allies tried to wage the Italy Campaign,
Canadian troops got the task to capture the port town of Ortona. After a nine day bloody and
house to house fight, Canadians won it with a loss of 1375 soldiers. It was one of the most
significant battles for Canada during World War Two.For the Canadians, Ortona was the
bloodiest battle of the Italian Campaign to date. They used the strategy of mouse holing and
house to house to wipe enemies out one by one. Both side tried to use their heavy weapons for
smashing a hole on the wall as well as utilize the mouse hole to throw grenades in order to
destroyed enemies. As a result, Canada lost almost one quarter of all Canadian killed during the
Italy Campaign. The capture of Ortona, known to those who fought it as the Italian Stalingrad , is
considered among Canada s greatest victories during the war. That s why Battle of Ortona is

Was The British Justified In Deporting Acadians
Acadia was a colony of New France located in northeastern North America during the 17th and
18th centuries, Which are now located in present day New Brunswick and Nova Scotia. Acadians
were the people who lived on the land, most of them had lived on the land for generations and had
built their farms with back breaking work. Those who favor this position would argue that the
British were justified in deporting the Acadians. While others would argue the British were not
justified. These are my reasons for why the British were justified in deporting the Acadians.
One important argument that proves the British were justified in deporting the Acadians, is that
they could not trust them. Since Acadians were of French descent there was a possible

Medea Persuasive Essay
In the play Medea by Euripides, the main character, Medea, goes on a murderous rampage. On
said rampage, she kills both of her sons, the king of Corinth, and her husband s fiancГ©e, the
princess of Corinth. But how is one person capable of killing all those people in approximately an
hour? Lots of anger, obviously, but Medeahad to go through a mental process to achieve this so
called feat . Naturally, something triggered her, in this case, Jason, her husband, cheating on her.
Later, just before she started killing people, Medea went into denial; arguing with herself for a
while. Yet, when all was said and done, Medea went into a mania and was basically on an
adrenaline high. Through this process, four people were killed in Medea s rampage.... Show more

For Medea, her trigger for her murderous rampage was her beloved husband, Jason, cheating on her
with the princess of Corinth. Unfortunately, this is normal in their society, so Medea s reaction
seemed way overblown. This suppressed her feelings in a way, due to the lack of understanding,
making her deal with these intense feelings through murder. However, you must think about what
Medea is going through. She was sent away from her hometown because she killed family there.
Then here comes along Jason, ready to save her from this seemingly eternal hell. Naturally,
Medea sees him as her savior, so in return she thinks very highly of him. But when he cheats, it
seems like Medea is overreacting; as if her world is falling apart. When in reality, it is. Her
husband has seemingly left her, she s an exile, and she has nowhere to go. How would you act in
such a situation? You are going to want to seek revenge at those who caused you this pain; not
necessarily in the form of a murderous rampage, but you would certainly do something. As with
everything, Medea s action had a trigger. Whether this action were a good response or not is up for
debate, but know that the murder wasn t committed out of

Growing National Demand for Herbal Material
Results of a survey carried out in 2000 showed that there were 104 Ayurvedic Drug Production
Units in the country, using herbal materials valued at Rs. 176 million of which 68% is currently
met by local supply. The national demand for herbal materials was 3,864,759 kg and
approximately 1,509,201 kg of this amount was imported to meet the national demand at a cost of
about Rs. 13 million (IUCN, 2001). Total requirement of certain Medicinal Plants are completely
imported where the department of Ayurvedarecords show that in 2013 there were 86 raw materials
(486,071 Kg) imported at the cost of Rs. 159.3 million. The figures very clearly demonstrate a
significant drop of importation comparing to year 2000. According to the gazette notification No.
1660/15 dated 2009.05.05 there are 73 plant raw materials, 21 minerals, 7 animal drugs under
Ayurveda section and 55 Unani raw materials declared as duty free for importation. In other study
Withania somnifera, Trachyspermum roxburghianum, Hemidesmus indicus and Curculigo
orchioides which have the highest imported percentages, were accounted for 95.45%, 90%, 73.68%
and 72.22% respectively (Kankanamalage et al. 2013).
In 1970s only 18 different plant materials were imported by Sri Lanka and these imports cost Sri
Lanka about Re. 1 million in foreign exchange each year. The apparent reason for importing plants
that are already available on the island is that they grow in remote areas and it is less expensive to

Comparing Piaget And Vygotsky
There are many international theories with different perspectives based around early learning.
Jean Piaget and Lev Vygotsky are both theorists who based their theories on cognitive
development. Both were constructivists and believed that children have the ability to construct
their own knowledge. They believed that every child is an individual active learner however the
way they believed children construct their own knowledge differs. Vygotsky talked about
different zones of development. The zones were actual, proximal and future. The zone of actual
development is what the child is able to do independently, the zone of proximal is what the child
is able to do with help and the future is what the child will learn and carry on to do independently
once they have received the support they need. According to Meggitt, C, The zone of proximal
development (ZPD), sometimes called the zone of potential development this means that then
child can do with help now what it will be possible for him or her to do alone with no help later on
(2015:57). Vygotsky viewed development as a continuous process.
Jean Piaget on the other hand viewed development ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
According to the study.com website, Vygotsky believed that adults in a society foster children s
cognitive development in an intentional and systematic manner by engaging them in challenging
and meaningful activities. (18/03/17). In my setting, practitioners scaffold children s learning by
supporting them to understand concepts. One way this is done is through modelling concepts.
Piaget and Vygotsky s theory is similar as both believed that there are some problems that a child
is not able to understand however the difference is, Vygotsky believed that with support, children
are able to achieve more complex tasks and eventually be able to do it independently which Piaget
considered out of a child s mental

The Final Count Is Correct
The final count is correct is a common statement that operating room (OR) nurses use daily. This
statement is a signal of safety for closing the patient s operative site. The occurrence of a retained
surgical item (RSI) was the most frequently reported sentinel event from 2010 through 2012 and
again in 2014 (The Joint Commission [TJC], 2012, 2014). Counting of surgical items is necessary
to provide protection and safety of the patient. One of the highest priorities for the OR nurse is
assuring the final countof items used in the surgical procedure is accurate. Risk factors for RSIs
are greater with varying situations and barriers which often lead to inaccurate counts. Because
RSIs can lead to death, the Institute of Medicine produced a report in 1999 that was an ethical
call to arms for never events (Stawicki S. P. et al, 2013). At this time the institute challenged all
facilities to establish safety guidelines to help minimize complications that were deemed
preventable (Stawicki S. P. et al, 2013). RSIs were at the top of the list for risk. The Perioperative
Nursing Data Sets (PNDS) are professional guidelines developed and maintained by the
Association of Perioperative Registered Nurses. These guidelines outline the expectations for the
OR nurse to carry out while a patient is in their care. One item of the PNDS states the patient is
free from signs and symptoms of injury due to extraneous objects (Rothrock, 2015). Counts

Disadvantages Of Calamansi
Powdered Calamansi Anyone?
Numerous Filipino dishes have calamansi as a main ingredient, with the fruit s juice used either as
a marinade, as part of a dish or a dip.
Cooking for a family using calamansi involves slicing the fruit, squeezing the juice out then
straining the juice to remove the seeds. Cooking large batches for a party could make this tedious
chore a nightmare.
D Lite Ingredients and Chemicals, a company established in 2011, is pushing powdered calamansi
as an alternative to the squeezing and the mess involved with handling the fresh fruit.
The firm s sales manager, Francis Ciabal, was at the recent Biotechnology Week exhibit held by the
Department of Science and Technology (DOST).

Turmeric supplements originated from the plant s rhizomes, which feature rough, brown skin and a
dark orange flesh. Known for its fragrant aroma and slightly bitter taste, turmeric is a common
culinary spice in Indian cuisine. Turmeric also comes in liquid extract, capsule and powder forms.
The traditional Oriental medicine systems have long used turmeric powder to treat an assortment of
therapeutic conditions.
Turmeric s underground stems (rhizomes) are dried and made into capsules, tablets, teas, or
extracts. Turmeric powder is also made into a paste for skin conditions. Turmeric has been used
for 4,000 years to treat a variety of conditions. Studies show that turmeric may help fight
infections and some cancers, reduce inflammation, and treat digestive problems. Turmeric is
widely used in cooking and gives Indian curry its flavor and yellow color. It is also used in
mustard and to color butter and cheese. Turmeric has also been used in both Ayurvedic and Chinese

Analysis of the Character of Shrek and Lord Farquaad from movie Shrek
In this essay I will analyse the characters of Shrek and Lord Farquaad and tell you about how the
filmmakers use different presentational devices to create an unusual fairy tale.
In traditional fairy tales the princess is normally a perfect, kind, beautiful person. In a traditional
fairy tale the princess is trapped in the tallest tower of a castle guarded by a terrifying beast.
A handsome prince always rescues them, for instance in Snow White and the seven dwarfs the
prince who rescues her gives her the kiss of life, which is supposed to make the story romantic.

Donkey tries to become friends with Shrek by coming into his house and bouncing on his bed
saying they can stay up late swapping stories but Shrek doesn t want to be friends with Donkey.
Shrek kicks Donkey outside and Donkey keeps popping his head up in the window which annoys
Shrek.
There are three blind mice who tease Shrek by talking about the smell of cheese when they are
near Shreks ears this is funny because the mice are blind but still manage to offend the ogre.
ELLIOT COOPER BRINE HOWE
Donkey and Shrek visit Duloc, to try to reclaim Shreks swamp from Lord Farquaad. Donkey
thinks that Shrek is too kind and should not have to ask for his swamp to be returned to him.
Donkey tells Shrek to kick out the fairy tale creatures with force from
his swamp if he needs to. Shrek offers to solve the dispute over a pint, which shows Shrek is trying
to settle the dispute without using violence.
When Shrek breaks into the castle to rescue Princess Fiona, he acts like an ogre when he greets the
princess and shakes her to wake her up

  • 2. Examples Of Metaphors In The Convergence Of The Twain Pride, a human flaw, creates destruction and the insatiable desire for more. It leads to testing nature and eventually to downfall. On April 14, 1912 the Titanic and its unsinkable pride collided with an iceberg. The people onboard noticed the Iceberg too late to avoid it. In The Convergence of the Twain , Thomas Hardy expressed his belief that fate brought down the Titanic due to human pridethough his descriptions of the ship and its people and his descriptions of nature and the iceberg . Hardy uses metaphors, personification, and irony to prove the ship s fate was set as soon as humans believed her greater than nature. By comparing the ship to beautiful inanimate objects, the reader can see the destruction and uselessness of beauty. The Titanic is jewels in joy designed to attracted the sensuous mind. The Titanic, beautifully crafted by thousands of hands and great patience stunned and mesmerized the human mind just as jewels do. The ship s beauty did not aid it in the end. The ship now lie[s] lightless with all it s shine bleared and black and blind. This beauty s final destination ends in the cold ocean waters lying useless and dull as fated. People created this ship with an enormous pride that even the ship could not contain it, its crown set too high. It tested nature with its vanityand nature retaliated. Hardy criticizes the ship on her pride, where she only has herself to blame. Hardy uses personification to give the ship life and personality. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. The Impact of Public Announcements on the Stock Prices Allocating the ownership of economy s stock capital is the primary role of capital market. In an ideal market the price would provide accurate signals for allocation of resources. Ideal market is one in which firm s production investment decisions and investor s decision regarding securities will depend on the assumption that the security prices fully reflect available information at any point in time. A market in which prices always fully reflect available information is called efficient.1 Anamika Sharma (2009) conducted a study to investigate the impact of public announcement of open offer by testing the semi strong form of efficiency to draw inferences on the efficiency of stock market through market adjusted abnormal model. The results of the study support that stock market is not efficient in semi strong form and that open offer created a substantial value for shareholders of company during the study period.2 S. Basu (1997) tested for the information content of price earnings multiple. He tested to see whether low P/E stocks outperform stocks with high P/E ratios. If historical P/E ratios provided useful information for obtaining higher stock returns then it would be refutation of semi strong form of efficient market hypothesis. His results indicated that low P/E portfolios provided superior returns relative to the market and high P/E provided inferior returns relative to the market. The results reported in this paper indicate that P/E ratio information was not fully ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. Importance Of Communication Between Parents And Parents The significance of communication between educators and parents has been studied and stressed for many years because of its impact on academic achievement and success of students. Parental involvement can have a remarkable effect on the academic achievement of students. Epstein (2008) found that when parents are involved with their child s education that more students earn higher grades in English and math, improve their reading and writing skills, complete more course credits, set higher aspirations, have better attendance, come to class more prepared to learn, and have fewer behavior problems... (pg. 10). A huge problem is that many parents face today are work schedule with two parents working families or single parent family not being able to connect with the school not being able to find the time due to work schedules. Often times the only when a behavior or an academic crisis happen teachers reach out to parents. Likewise when a parent experience a problem academically or socially with their child will a parents reach out to talk to a teacher. Technology is making communication much easier between parents and teachers. The most common of the communication between teachers and parents is based off of grades, attendance and behaviorally. Four times a year teachers are in communication with parents due to grades and sometimes in between the grade periods if a child is struggling. Some school districts use printed report copies and send them home with students ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. Parent and Child Relationships of Oedipus Rex and Live Alone In society, the sense of family is one of the core values in life. One of the most common relationships in a family is that of the parent and child. Throughout history, playwrights have composed pieces containing the impressionable relationship of a parent and a child. Sophocles and Deborah Salem Smith effectively use the strained relationships of Oedipusand Jocasta, and Helen Warren and Clementine to develop their plays Oedipus Rex and Love Alone. While both plays contain parentand child relationships, the type of relationship proves to be radically different. In Oedipus Rex, Jocasta serves as the Queen of Thebes and Oedipus is an abandoned son of Jocasta and current king of Thebes. In the beginning of the play, Oedipus, happily married to Jocasta, has several children with the Queen. Jocasta s first husband was King Laius, and together they gave birth to Oedipus. Jocasta and Laius heard a devastating prophecy, which stated that their son was going to kill his father and marry his mother. In order to avoid this prophecy, Jocasta and Laius bound Oedipus s ankles and left him on a mountainside to die. Ironically, Jocasta and Oedipus relationship was doomed the second Oedipus was born. In the play Love Alone, Susan, Helen Warren s partner and Clementine s biological mother dies due to complications while under surgery. The death of Susan, causes Clementine s and Helen s relationship to become closer than ever before, although at first it seems to be a little to close ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Stakeholders In The Community Stakeholders are the lifeblood of the decision processes for any organization and how stakeholders are affected by organizational decisions has kept many a manager up at night. In the mental health segment of the industry, my organization acts independently of others with little competition due to catchment agreements. That is not to say there is not a situation where frustrations with Carey Counseling Center would not deter someone from seeking services elsewhere. • 7. Reoccurring Themes In Dubliners By James Joyce In Counterparts , in the collection Dubliners by James Joyce, many themes are developed over the course of the short story. Farrington is oppressed by his boss and at home and he cannot stand being controlled by his smaller boss and his monotonous work. He finds comfort in the bar, however this comfort turns into his humiliation and anger again. His anger towards the characters due to being bossed around and his own clumsiness controlling him is a reoccurring theme in the story. The Japanese attacked Pearl Harbor to neutralize the U.S. Pacific Naval Fleet, so they could advance into Malaya and the Dutch East Indies to access natural resources to further their war effort. However, the Pearl Harbor bombing became an everlasting memory to Americans. Two little known contributors to this event had a profound effect on the planning and execution of the attack. • 12. Canada Health Act Essay The Undermining of the Canada Health Act Abstract In the past, Canada s government funded, universally accessible, health care system has been praised and admired both at home and abroad as one of the finest in the world. A great source of pride and comfort for many Canadians is that it is based on five fundamental principles. Principles that are a reflection of the values held by Canadian citizens since the formation of Medicare in 1966. These principles were reinforced in the Canada Health Act, (CHA), of 1984 and state that the Canadian system is universal, accessible, portable, comprehensive and non profit. Accessibility and quality are being threatened due to cutbacks coupled with a lack of funding. There is a consensus now between medical professionals, the public, and the government that the health care system is deteriorating. It is failing to provide the quality of care promised in the CHA and prided by so many Canadians. Yet the strings on the public purse continue to tighten. Transfer payments from the federal government continue to decrease as provincial debt loads increase. And, although the minister of health and the premier assured them that the costs of health care were doubling or even tripling, Albertans have witnessed a steady decline in government spending on health care. The proportion of gross domestic product, (GDP), which Alberta allocates to health care is ranked last among the ten provinces, (Taft, 1997). Albertans now find themselves with a struggling health care system and a waiting list. The proposed solution from current Alberta government would see the health care system incorporate the private sector. Optometrist Job Application Essay What began as mere admiration for my childhood optometrist quickly evolved into a fervent aspiration when I began working as an optometric technician at Eye Vision Care. Having been myopic since the age of 6, I have always had an interest in the inner workings of the eye and decided to apply to this job, without any concrete career plans in mind. Working at EVC, I have had the unique privilege of learning from six different doctors and have been able to observe the various characteristics of each. From taking the time to thoroughly educate patients on eye health, to creating strong personal relations with them, their practices allow me to envision the type of optometrist I plan to become. One of the most important skills I have learned from my employment is an intense attention to detail. Although each of the six doctors have distinct approaches to eye care, they have all impressed upon me the value of taking pride in my work, demanding nothing less than excellence from their employees. ... The idea for future laws is to ensure that women maintain power over their bodies, but do not dominate over the law and use exceptions for abortion. The problem is that pro choice women and pro life women have many clashing ideas that make it hard to organize one final law. Pro choice women believe that abortions should be allowed to a certain extent. SOme even believe it can be a form of birth control, and that there should be no limit of uses. What many do not understand is these actions could guide anyone to their end, along with anyone or anything who has influenced in the process. In Shakespeare s play, The Tragedy of Macbeth, Macbeth s desperate measures are caused by his influences in gaining what he desires; be that as it may, lead to the foundation of his destruction. Once Macbeth was told his future by the witches, he spoke about how stars, hide your fires/ let not light see my black and deep desires. (I. 4. 50 51). It is indicated that Macbeth has his mind set in gaining his desires and making them come true. However, it is stated that Macbeth s loss of freedom is reflected in the diminishing proportion of thought to deed that characterizes his behavior in the course of the play (Cantor). As Macbeth uses his ambition to his advantage, he slowly loses his freedom because he is losing his humanity by killing. For instance, he states how it is For mine own good/ All causes shall give way/ I am in blood stepped in so far that / should I wade no more. (III. 4. 135 137). Macbeth s ambition leads him to believe that everything he is doing, is for his own well being; that it was his right to become king, no matter what the costs. The original Macbeth assumed the kingship, perhaps reviving his father s claim (Woolf). Both Macbeth s connect because they believe the throne belongs to them one overthrew Duncan because he was not the rightful ruler; the other assumed he would be the better king because the witches told him his future. A merger occurs when two firms come together or join together in order to share resources of the two organisations. A merger helps enhance the two organisations which have joined to share resources and management skills for the benefit of both organisations which now work under one management structure. • 17. Isopropanol Research Paper Many people assume alcohol is nothing more than liquor or rubbing alcohol; however, this is not the case. There are many different types of alcohol including some of the alternate fuels we put into our vehicles. Over the course of my working life I have come into contact with many different alcohols, but Isopropyl Alcohol, or 2 propanol, was one of the ones that I encountered the most and I have always wondered exactly what it is. 2 propanol is a very interesting molecule and has a lot of uses for products in many different markets. Because of this, many people come into contact with it and do not even know it. There are many important advances going on with the development of isopropanol that could potentially change our lives. Typically isopropanol is found in its liquid form because it is not easy to freeze with a freezing point of 88.3В°C. Not only does 2 propanol have a low freezing point, but it also ignites easily with a flash point, the temperature in which a liquid can ignite in air, of 12В° C, but it also denser than air when vaporized (ILPI). So, if there was a fire and some became vaporized, it could potentially cause a large explosion. Another interesting thing about isopropanol is how it is soluble in many different liquids such as alcohol, water, ether, chloroform, benzene, and most organic solvents. This means that you can create many different substances out of propanol that could potentially be used in places that you would not expect. • 18. Predestination to Choose Perspectives on Church Predestined to Choose First, predestination must be defined so that a contrast can be made with free will. Predestination is the divine foreordaining of all that will happen. Predestination deals with the question of the control God has over the world, it also refers to the belief that God appointed the eternal destiny of some (the elect) to salvation by grace, while leaving the remainder (the reprobate) to receive eternal damnation for all their sins. Free will, However, will be defined to mean a person which has the ability and awareness to choose whether they will accept Jesus Christ as their Savior or not. By trying to understand what scripture has to say on free will and predestination, and analyzing what other theological thinkers say, brings up the question, can one be more accurate than the other? What we believe as Christians does (and should) affect how we live. How Christians view the relationship between divine sovereignty and human freedom has a direct bearing on how they respond to various issues in their lives. Thus, they can successfully use the same plot structure to portray two divergent effects of losing one s innocence in a traumatic event. The plot structure of the novels also reinforces the idea of innocence. The plot structure for The Kite Runner is chronological, but the plot structure for The God of Small Things is circular. In his novel, The Kite Runner, Hosseini begins to dive into the distinction by beginning the novel with introducing the main character, Amir, and his friend Hassan. The God of Small Things is out of sequence because the novel is jumbled. As a result, Arundhati Roy uses this to reinforce the idea of a circular plot structure, where the characters are unable to break free of the cycle. Estha tried to protect Rahel from losing her innocence once the Orangedrink Lemondrink man molested him, but he was unable to, and as a result the twins end up having sex at the end of the novel. However, in his novel The Kite Runner Khaled Hosseini portrays Amir as unable to save Hassan from the rape that takes place, and instead shows Amir protecting Sohrab, Hassan s son, who was also raped by the same person. They both utilize similar story plots, plot structure, and symbols that represent similar meanings. As an author, Khaled Hosseini clearly describes Amir s journey and his reactions to specific events throughout the novel, crafting his responses in clever ways. Arundhati Roy also employs the same technique in her novel, choosing to use a similar plot structure, but having the characters react differently to the scenarios they face. Geochemical Tracers Essay 4.2 Geochemical tracers Due to recent advances in both quick analytical techniques for large numbers of samples and numerical source apportioning models that allow a more detailed and quantitative understanding of the uncertainty associated with estimated results, the geochemical tracers are extensively used in recent sediment fingerprinting studies (Franz et al. 2013; Grimes et al. 2007). Such as rare earth elements (REE; e.g., La, Ce, Pr, Nd, Sm, Eu, Gd, Tb, Dy, Ho, Er, Tm, Yb and Lu), major elements (e.g., Fe, K, Na, Al, Ca and Mg) and trace elements (e.g., As, Ba, Co, Cr, Cs, Hf, Sc, Ta, Ti, Th and Zr), in both source soil and sediment samples, have been used in sediment fingerprinting studies (Horowitz et al. 2012; Hughes et al. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Natural geogenic REE signatures sometimes may be a potential proxy for identifying lacustrine sediment sources and soil erosion rates (Wen et al. 2014). Though REEs has many advantages, owning its relatively high cost, REEs have not been extensively used. There are three approaches that can account for potential differences in sediment geochemistry relating to particle size and mineralogy. One commonly used way of normalization is to use measured bulk concentrations in the total sediment sample to account for differences in sediment geochemistry. The diluting effects of non reactive constitutes (e.g., coarse sediment, quartz and feldspar grains) can be removed. The second way of normalization is to divide the concentration of the potential tracer by the concentration of the conservative element (e.g., Al, Ti and Li). The third method is to incorporate a correction factor into the mixing model (Collins et al. 1998). Moreover, the geochemical tracer method can also be applied to contemporary and historic sedimentary deposits for reconstructing temporal changes in sediment provenance at the catchment scale (Thevenon et al. 2013). 4.3 Radionuclides Atmospheric fallout radionuclides(FRN), such as 7Be, 10Be, 137Cs, 210Pb, 239Pu and 240Pu, effectively tag surface sediments and the concentration declines markedly with depth and are preferentially absorbed to clay minerals and organic matter due to their high specific surface area which renders them chemically ... • 25. Marx s The Capitalist System Marx believed that the capitalist system causes the world s wealth to be concentrated in the hands of the greedy few, inflicting an even bigger gap between the rich and the working class. Needless to say there is always going to be never ending tensions between these two classes, especially since our society has been split between the 99% of the working class and the 1% of the privileged people getting richer every single day. When there are no principles of order and no boundaries of rules, the free market is able to produce more than what the capitalist can sell. However, when too much of one product is made, the value and the demand of the product decreases, showing red flags of what Marx s calls a period of overproduction. It concludes that the supply is greater than the demand, creating a cost instead of a profit for the capitalist since that have to sell what they overproduced. Regardless of this, it is important to know that overproduction isn t seen as a problem for the rest world unless they are the owners of the means of production the capitalist class because it only matters in the concept of profit. The reason behind it as described earlier is if too much was produced and the demand isn t as high, profit would decrease due to the unbalance of the equation. Since there are various studies to establish which areas of medicine have been subjected to gender differences, therefore, going through research papers that would entail the necessary statistical adjustments would make the medical practitioner aware of the areas where these differences have been actually exercised. As per research conducted by Prigione et al. in 2010, various areas of medicine and the respective research statistics have proved the discrepancies in the various areas of medicine concerning gender differences. Making one s self aware of these trends would help the medical practitioner aware of the recent models. AN INVESTIGATION OF FEEDBACK Zhexun Chen University College London 6th January 2015 ABSTRACT The purpose of this report is to investigate the property of feedback in a multi stage amplifier. The report describes the frequency response and time of distortion occurrence of open and close loop in their linear operating region. In the method of contrast, the advantages and disadvantages of feedback can be easily summarized. Besides the things above, practical amplifier has some operating constrains. The report also illustrates the possible constrains that are current limit, slew rate and saturation of the output at supply rails. The final investigation of this report is the relationship between resonance and the time domain response. Depression is a condition where a person feels hopeless, not motivated, or not interested in life, lasting at least 2 weeks or longer. There is an urgency to start talking about dealing with this because suicide is the third leading cause of death in teens and fifteen percent of teens have actually considered suicide. This statement is a signal of safety for closing the patient s operative site. The occurrence of a retained surgical item (RSI) was the most frequently reported sentinel event from 2010 through 2012 and again in 2014 (The Joint Commission [TJC], 2012, 2014). Counting of surgical items is necessary to provide protection and safety of the patient. One of the highest priorities for the OR nurse is assuring the final countof items used in the surgical procedure is accurate. Risk factors for RSIs are greater with varying situations and barriers which often lead to inaccurate counts. Because RSIs can lead to death, the Institute of Medicine produced a report in 1999 that was an ethical call to arms for never events (Stawicki S. P. et al, 2013).
