This document provides summaries of 10 popular educational apps: Kahoot, Flocabulary, A+ Writing Prompts, iBrainstorm, Remind, Pear Deck, Coggle, Nearpod, Google Drive, and Trello. It describes what each app is used for, how it engages students, and why it was selected as one of the top 10 apps. Many of the apps mentioned incorporate multimedia like music and videos, allow for interactive lessons and quizzes, facilitate collaboration and organization, or enable communication between teachers, students, and parents.

This is an interactive app that all of my students
adore. Anytime they see iPads they automatically
assume we are going to play Kahoot. This app can be
used to not only view content, but to also quiz
students on what they know. Students are allow to
choose a name and all of their answers can be saved
in a spreadsheet once the quiz is finished. You can
either make your own quiz or you can use one of the
many quizzes made by other people on the site. This
site can be accessed on any type of device, including
a cell phone. It does require higher order thinking
skills, is easy to use, and all answers are private.

With this app, every lesson is an opportunity to
bring curriculum to life. This app is loved by students
from all grade levels. It’s creators make hip hop
songs and videos for all subjects and make it
relevant to events going on in the world today.
Students who have auditory learning styles, love this
app. It allows educators to incorporate vocabulary
and is an awesome way to reach ELL students. It is
easy to use and does not require higher order skills
4. A+ Writing Prompts

This app takes communication to a whole new level.
With this app, teachers can communicate with students
and parents in a quick and easy way. The Remind app
sends text messages to any device and can translate
messages in 70 different languages! You can also
schedule reminders and send photos, PDFs, voice clips,
and more! It also shows you who has read your messages
and who is missing out. The best part is this app was
made for schools, so it is FREE!
7. Pear Deck

Pear Deck is an interactive presentation tool that can help
teachers engage and assess students in real-time. Pear Deck
encourages active learning and makes formative assessments
quicker and easier. With this app, teachers create a lesson
and students follow it on their own smart device. During the
lesson, students participate in various questions and activities
on their own screen, and their answers can be seen only by
the teacher. This app is also built to work collaboratively
with Google, making it easier to integrate within the
classroom. This app engages students with course materials,
allows every student to have a voice and participate, and
increases overall classroom performance.
8. Coggle

This app made it into our top 10 because it can be used
in the classroom to encourage the students to
transform their notes into mind maps; enhancing the
note taking process and encouraging better
brainstorming, memorization, and organization. The
app is user friendly with simple tutorials to guide
students through the mapping process. There is also a
gallery of previously made coggles that can offer
insights and inspirations for the students. Coggle can
be used on an individual, group, or classroom basis to
ensure consistent note taking at any grade level and
for any subject.
9. Nearpod

Nearpod is an app that allows teachers to engage their
students in the learning process through interactive
lessons. It made the top 10 list for its flexibility,
available resources, and ease of use for both student
and teacher. Nearpod lessons cover a multitude of
grades and subjects and can even be assigned on an
individual basis. Student progress is tracked through
the teacher portal to ensure quality assessment and
feedback. Nearpod lessons can even be used to
connect multiple classes for a truly engaging learning
experience.

Google Drive made the top 10 list because in the
cannon of apps, it is by far one of the most useful apps
for any technology based classroom environment. This
app allows teachers to monitor student progress, offer
real time feedback, and collect student work all in one
easy to use and organized location. No more feedback
after-the-fact because with Google Drive teachers can
encourage students to analyze and evaluate their work
at every step of the process. The app is user friendly
and with initial teacher guidance it becomes simple for
students to manage on their own. The best part is that
it can be customized for any subject and grade level
where technology is consistently used in the classroom
setting.
11. Trello

Trello is a project based app that can be used in
combination with Google Drive to enhance the “group
work” experience for students and teachers. It made
our top 10 list because it encourages student
organization, collaboration, and time management.
Through Trello, students can interact beyond the
classroom setting which takes the chaos and stress out
of group projects. Through the app students can create
lists customized to their subject and project, organize
those lists, and even set deadlines for completion, and
assign specific tasks to certain individuals. The
progress can be tracked through student-to-student
feedback and monitored by the teacher.
