REMEDY
8/28/2020DR AKSHITA SRIVASTAVA
 USE DESENSITIZING TOOTHPASTE
 USE SOFT BRISTLE TOOTHBRUSH
 DO SALT WATER RINSE
 USE HYDROGERN PEROXIDE AS A MOUTH
RINSE
 HONEY AND WARM WATER
 MASSAGE TURMERIC ON TOOTH
 GREEN TEA
 LIMITING THE AMOUNT OF ACIDIC FOODS
 MAINTAIN GOOD ORAL HYGIENE
GUM DISEASE (GINGIVITIS)
8/28/2020DR AKSHITA SRIVASTAVA
 There is a thin layer of germs called “biofilm” that can stick to
any surface, including on the gums of your mouth
 Biofilm, typically pale yellow in colour, is normal and happens to
everyone—even if you brush, floss and rinse with a mouthwash.
 However, if you don’t remove the biofilm on a daily basis, it can
collect and develop into dental plaque.
 Dental plaque, which can lead to gum problems, is made up of
some bad germs (the kind that thrives on the sugar left behind
on gums and teeth, and turns into tooth-decaying acid) and
some good germs (the kind that makes normal biofilm less
attractive to acid-hungry germs).
 A person who has a solid dental care routine and who brushes,
flosses, and swishes daily, can control and minimise the size of
the biofilm
COMMON CAUSES OF GINGIVITIS(GUM
DISEASE)
8/28/2020DR AKSHITA SRIVASTAVA
 SMOKING/CHEWING TOBACCO
 Hormonal changes in puberty, pregnancy and
menopause
 Cancer
 Alcohol
 Stress
 Crooked, rotated, or overlapping teeth
 Mouth breathing
 Poor nutrition
 Diabetes mellitus
 Antiseizure medication
 Infrequent or no dental care

Impacted wisdom teeth
8/28/2020DR AKSHITA SRIVASTAVA
 Impacted wisdom teeth are third molars at the back
of the mouth that don't have enough room to emerge
or develop normally.
 Your dentist can tell if your wisdom teeth are
impacted by examining your teeth and taking a
simple X-ray of your mouth.
TREATMENT
8/28/2020DR AKSHITA SRIVASTAVA
 A dentist or oral surgeon performs the operation, which is
known as wisdom tooth extraction.
 As part of the procedure, your doctor may use anesthetic
drugs to induce a type of anesthesia, such as:
 local anesthesia to numb your mouth
 During the procedure, the surgeon will make a cut in your
gums and take out problematic bone before removing the
tooth. They’ll close the incision with stitches and pack the
space with gauze.
 The entire surgery usually takes about 30 to 60 minutes.
 If your teeth are fully impacted and buried deep within your
gums or jawbone, it might be harder for your surgeon to
remove them than if they’ve broken through the gum.
INFLAMMATION OF PULP(PULPITIS)
8/28/2020DR AKSHITA SRIVASTAVA
WHAT IS PULPITIS?
8/28/2020DR AKSHITA SRIVASTAVA
 A tingling sensation in one of your teeth or a sharp
pain when eating something hot or cold, CAN BE
INDICATIVE OF PULPITIS.
 This condition occurs when the inner pulp portion
of the tooth, which is made up of blood vessels and
nerves, becomes inflamed.
 The inflammation is usually REVERSIBLE, but there
are times when the inflammation isn't reversible and
the pulp can't heal itself and is called
IRREVERSIBLE PULPITIS
PULPITIS CAUSES
8/28/2020DR AKSHITA SRIVASTAVA
 The enamel and dentin layers can become damaged
by several conditions, including:
 Cavities or tooth decay
 injury, such as an impact to the tooth
 repetitive trauma caused by dental issues, such as
jaw misalignment or bruxism (tooth grinding)
 having a fractured tooth, which exposes the pulp
TREATMENT
8/28/2020DR AKSHITA SRIVASTAVA
 REVERSIBLE PULPITIS
 Inflammation and
discomfort goes away
once source of infection
is removed
 Removing the caries and
filling the tooth will help
pulp to recover and avoid
discomfort
 IRREVERSIBLE
PULPITIS
 Inflammation and
discomfort does not go
away even if source of
infection is removed
 Abcess is formed if
infection exceeds
 Root canal treatment is
done in order to save the
tooth.
ROOT CANAL TREATMENT

TOOTH DECAY
8/28/2020DR AKSHITA SRIVASTAVA
 Tooth decay is the softening of tooth enamel and
refers to the damage of the structure of
the tooth caused by acids that are created when
plaque bacteria break down sugar in your mouth.
 If this loss of mineral from the enamel is left
untreated, a cavity, or hole in the tooth, can
eventually occur.
 This can further lead to pain .

NON DENTAL CAUSES
8/28/2020DR AKSHITA SRIVASTAVA
1. Muscle : -
 Muscles of mastication
(masseter, temporalis, medial
pterygoid, etc)
 Cervical muscles
(sternocleidomastoid [SCM],
trapezius, splenius capitis, etc)
2. Periodontal ligament :-
 Occlusal trauma
 Parafunction
3. Temporomandibular joint
:-
 Displaced disc
 Osteoarthritis
4. Neurologic
 Trigeminal neuroma
 Trigeminal neuralgia
 Postherpetic neuralgia
5. Neurovascular
 Atypical odontalgia
 NICO (neuralgia inducing
cavitational osteonecrosis)
6. Miscellaneous
 Psychological
 Sinus

MANAGEMENT
8/28/2020DR AKSHITA SRIVASTAVA
 Management is always directed by the presented
symptoms, their course and influencing factors.
 Successful therapy is achieved by treating the source
of pain, not the site of pain.
CRACKED TOOTH
8/28/2020DR AKSHITA SRIVASTAVA
8/28/2020DR AKSHITA SRIVASTAVA
CAUSES MANAGEMENT
8/28/2020DR AKSHITA SRIVASTAVA
 Accidents
 Very hard foods
 Teeth grinding
 When a crack cuts
through more than the
enamel, then treatment
is needed to prevent
problems like an
infection or a deeper
fracture.
 Depending on how
severe a crack is, your
dentist may recommend
a crown, a root canal or
removal of the tooth

PREVENTION OF TOOTHACHE
8/28/2020DR AKSHITA SRIVASTAVA
 MAINTAIN ORAL HYGIENE
 USE SOFT BRISTLED TOOTHBRUSH WITH A
FLUORIDATED TOOTHPASTE
 BRUSH TWICE DAILY
 FLOSS REGULARLY
 USE MOUTHWASH DAILY
 VISIT YOUR DENTIST EVERY 6 MONTHS.

  • 12. TREATMENT 8/28/2020DR AKSHITA SRIVASTAVA  A dentist or oral surgeon performs the operation, which is known as wisdom tooth extraction.  As part of the procedure, your doctor may use anesthetic drugs to induce a type of anesthesia, such as:  local anesthesia to numb your mouth  During the procedure, the surgeon will make a cut in your gums and take out problematic bone before removing the tooth.
