Modes Of Being
Often when I sleep, I neither feel myself (my senses), nor have I dreams. But, when I wake up, my
intellect instantly apprehends different things. I feel things, I see things, I taste things, I smell
things, and I hear things. Thus, it is true, the first thing grasped by the intellect is being. As,
Avicenna said: that which the intellect first conceives as, in a way, the most evident, and to which
it reduces all its concepts, is being1. Then, if all beings from the smallest particle to God himself, is
being, or if being is universal, how do I differentiate the diversity of all that I perceive each time
when I awake? St. Thomas said there two ways being is expressed, or two ways to of adding to
being. But why do we add to being as if... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The term used positively is a thing. The essence make a thing what it is, different from all other
thing. Therefore a thing expresses the essence of a being whereas the being express the
existence of a thing or the to be . The second term used while considering every being is itself is
One. One is negative, because when being is considered per se, it cannot be divide, in other
words is One. Thus, the term One is used the express the undividedness of a being. Then again,
as I mentioned above, the general modes can be considered in two ways. The second mode
necessitate to follow every being in relation to others. This first way is the distinction between a
being to another being. The distinction between one being to another being is called another. For
example: Mum my job is finish now, can you give me another one. The term another make a
distinction to one thing to another. The second way is the correspondence of one being to another
being. This is possible only as St. Thomas explained: if something which is such that it agrees with
every being. Such a being is the soul, which, as is said in The Soul, in some way is all things 3.
The soul on the other hand has the knowing and the appetitive powers. As Aristotle said good is
what men desires it follows that Good expresses the correspondence of being through the appetitive
power. And Truth is the

G Setosus Lab Report
INTRODUCTION Although many researchers have found that Gammarus setosus lives in
panarctic region, few of them work to specify whether it predominantly lives in rocky zones or
sandy zones. To determine this, we set out for a choice experiment on G. setosus that can help
us determine its distribution more precisely. Gammarus setoseus is a kind of tiny, shrimp like
oceanic organism. Adult G. setosus is typically 20 35mm long (Weslawski 2009), but the
organism we use in our research is generally 5 10mm, which can be classified as juvenile. The
head and body of G. setosus is covered with grey and translucent thin shell, which have a function
of support and protection. On the top part of G. setosus, there are two dark black eyes and a
mouthpart, as well as two slender extended tentacles. It has a dozen of limbs arranged in two lines
under its body, which... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

American Social Equality
Social Equality has always been a concern of persons living in the United States. One of the main
points was the issue of same sex marriage. Same sex marriage isn t a new concept in the
American social way of life. States used to have the legal power to dictate what the definition of
marriage is and who has the right to marry. In the Supreme Case of Obergefell v. Hodges,
homosexuals now have the constitutional right for them to be able to marry. In America there are
two definitions of marriage, the traditional and same sex. Traditional marriage is defined as a
marriage between man and woman. Same sex marriagehas often been a taboo subject in the
American culture and since the Supreme Court decision had ruled in favor of same sex marriage...

They have that right to believe that the homosexuals should not be allowed to be married and
should not be granted that right. This is defined through the free exercise of religion, people
have the right to believe what we want regarding our religious views, but we can t always act on
them if it interferes with someone else s rights. So in the instance of granting marriage licenses
clerks can have opposing views on homosexuals getting married. They can believe that they
should not be able to have the right to get married and should only be reserved for traditional
marriages, and with their view deny any licenses that would go against their personal views, but
they could not physically reject the marriage. If they where to find to deny the marriage licenses
of a same sex marriage it would go against the rights of the gay

What Christians Mean When They Refer to Jesus as Lord
When we think of the name Lord as Christians we think of God, as he is powerful, almighty and
great. Jesus however was a human and to be called Lord is very special because no one in
history has been called that before. As Christians we would say the name Lord means miracle
worker, ruler and faithful. Jesus was mainly all these things as he performed many miracles in his
life which many different types of people benefited from which are recorded in the Gospels.
Many Jews thought of Jesus as a lord because he helped many of them; outcasts, Romans, women
and the rich ands poor and many others he helped in his life on Earth. Jesus truly was a ... Show

Have you still no faith? The disciples turned to one another and said,
Who is this man? Even the wind and waves obey him!
Jesus also had the power over death, which is also referred to in the Synoptic Gospels in the
story of Raising of Lazarus . When Jesus was leaving Judea he was told of one of his dear friend
being ill but was already dead, they returned to Judea even though many people attacked Jesus
before in this city. Him and his followers went to Lazarus tomb and Jesus said, Come out Lazarus ,
from the darkness emerged a man wrapped in grave clothes, they untied him and there was Lazarus
standing as if nothing was wrong.
[IMAGE]As Jesus was a Jew he helped many people of his religion but didn t believe entirely that
his religion was right. In Mark s Gospel a man named Jarius who was a leader of a Synagogue in
the area confronted Jesus, he said his daughter was dying and needed help, Jesus followed him
to his house where his daughter was resting. Jesus sat by the girl and said you are only sleeping,
wake up child . The girl awoke and started walking around the room. If Jesus has the power over
death he must be a man that we can call Lord as Christians.
Jesus helped many other people with his miracle powers, even women which was a strange thing in
those times as women were thought of as unequal to men and should not be treated the same. He

Although The Cold War Ended Without Major Inter-State...
Although the Cold War ended without major inter state hostilities between the United States and
the Soviet Union, only the United States was left standing as a world superpower. The Russian
economy was crippled as was its military severely limiting its ability to exert influence globally.
Since 1999, the Russian budget has grown significantly , as has Moscow s willingness to engage
in inter state conflict as observed in its Second Chechen War (once again gaining control of
Chechnya after the first war half a decade prior resulted in a humiliating defeat), the 2008 war with
Georgia (resulting in the expansion of South Ossetia and Abkhazia), and the current conflict with

This leads into the second: reassuring our allies of security, which is both a policy objective as well
as an end in itself. Russian influence in the information age, however, is much wider than its
physical lines of communication, meaning that the third end sought is to counter Russian
propaganda and electronic influence; while Russian threats to cybersecurity are not specifically
mentioned, cybersecurity as a whole concept is and we cannot ignore Russian capabilities as we
implement the NSS. The final end is to open the door for cooperation with Russia. By achieving
these ends, we are assured to continue a peaceful coexistence with Russia. As attainment of the
ends will lead to the accomplishment of the stated NSS strategic goals, they are assessed as
suitable. That is not to say that achieving them will be easy, but the NSS has identified very
reasonable ways by which we can be successful. The ways by which we can achieve these ends are
described in the NSS and NMS. First, multilateral sanctions in conjunction with allied nations will
be used to levy costs and deter future aggression . Further, the United States has recommitted to
honoring our security commitments with allies within the Russian sphere of influence with the
intent of serving as a deterrent to Russian aggression via improved defensive capabilities (for

Why Was Vasco Da Gama Responsible
many of you might know Vasco Da Gama only as an explorer; however, he was also a voyager
who has done several successful voyages throughout the world that had great effect to his
country. He was the first man to find the direct seaway toward India and also has done several
voyages to help his country out. He had said, I am not afraid of the darkness. Real death is
preferable to a life without living which showed his braveness and fearless about going out for
voyages. I believe that Vasco Da Gamawas a successful leader as a voyager and an explorer who
had amount of responsibility to his voyage and patriotism.

Reason for his second voyage was on the country. Pedro Cabral had conflicts with the local Arab
merchants which leading the Arab merchants attacking the Portugal factory and having up to 70
Portuguese killed. He went out on the voyage for the revenge of this event. He went out with fleet
of fifteen ships and 800 men from Lisbon. Later on squadron of five ships led by his cousin,
followed them. During the way out he stopped by Sofala, a gold trading port in East Africa, to
earn gold from them. When Da Gama went across in Indian water he was trying to capture Arab
vessel. Da Gama had actually captured a ship full of passengers and killed everyone in it in the
sea. Da Gama had ordered the Hindu King to have all the Muslims out of Calicut, however this
did not turn out to happen. As a result, Vasco Da Gama had begun to attack the cities that are
near the shore for several days also treating crew s violently from the Muslim s rice vessels and
sending them notes about insulting Zarmorin. Zarmorin as a response they declined to
Portuguese, not only that but also having a fleet go threat Vasco Da Gama, however this did not
turn out to work out well. Vasco Da Gama had taken spices from Cochin and Cannanore, while
some were at wars. Vasco Da Gama had decided to leave India having small squadron to protect
the Portugal factories and tiresome the Calicut shipping. However, Vasco Da Gama had

Kinsey Review
In the movie, Kinsey, it was obvious that society had a lack of knowledge about sex and about
people s sexual activities. Alfred Kinsey changed the way that people thought about sex. He did
an important and monumental thing informing people and answering people s questions about
sex. At one point in the movie it showed Kinsey reading a script from the bible where boys were
supposed to control their nocturnal emissions, a natural and uncontrollable act of puberty, or they
would be looked down upon by God. A quote from the movie it is the lord s work to help youth

America s Strategic Thinkers Who Think Asia Essay
This essay s topic required to evaluate the opinion that the US s strategic thinkers who think Asia is
more important than the Middle East, are said to be not understanding the situation of the States in
today s international context, and the affections onto its interests. Considering the importance of
the Middle Eastto Asiawill be the focus of this paper, in which the writer agreed with the
assumption. Moreover, there will be reasons why the Middle East is still more important than Asia,
along with comparison for each. And by the end of this essay, with backing from the main part, the
conclusion will be able to show the supports for the mentioned opinion.
To begin, we will start with the historical background of the US with the Middle East and Asia
(mostly the US and the Middle East), in order to set a fundamental understanding.
American government, for the whole historical period was likely to pursue interests beyond her
land s border. There is an opinion that presidents since Harry Truman have recognized that there
were four basic interests in the Middle East the Security of Israel, access to oil, cooperation with
the Soviet Union (since the collapse of the Soviet Union in 1991, the interests doesn t exist
anymore. Instead is the relation with Russia), and the upholding of certain principles. (Tillman,
1982, p. 62) The United States, nowadays has two main interests: one is the presence of oil and the

Vegan Butcher Research Paper
After years of perfecting their meatless meats, siblings Aubry and Kale Walch had their grand
opening of the Herbivorous Butcher on January 23, 2016. Although their very successful
Kickstarter campaign claimed they wanted to open the world s first vegan butcher shop, it isn t

In spite of the fact that Aubry came up with the oxymoronic title of vegan butcher spontaneously
while talking with a core group of friends and family one day, there area already other shops in the
world calling themselves vegan butchers. Their shop does appear to be the first in the U.S., but The
Vegetarian Butcher, based in The Netherlands, is credited with being the world s first meatless

Beatrice And Benedick Alternate Ending
The clatter of china surrounded the small group of adults, small talk traded between too bright
smiles. It was the day of the wedding, Claudio and Hero to be married off in mere minutes. A
playful jab was shared between Beatrice and Benedick, words flying out faster than arrows.
Leonato stood, using a dainty teaspoon to draw attention to himself, the light chatter fading to a
dead silence. Nobody dared talk when the master of the household did.
It is time, He proclaimed simply, hauling up both his daughter and her soon to be. Claudio s face
was plastered with a dashing smile, but if one looked close enough; long enough; hard enough; they
would see the flames behind his eyes, the anger sheathed until the moment was right.
The party exited the room, Leonato leading the way through the eerie, maze like tunnels with a
dash of uncertainty. The rain pattered overhead as they navigated. The ceremony was moved

The flow soon stopped however, Leonato noticing two things. One, the room was silent once more,
and two, the flickering light from the candles had been covered with a thick cloak, leaving the
room and all its guests in a deathly black.
Beatrice was one of the first to recover from the haunting spell placed upon them, ignoring the
moans that had again risen. She moved quickly, silently, grasping Hero under her arms, finding her
cousin out cold. Looking about, she found what she was looking for, and dragged her to a long
forgotten hatch, hiding her in the elderly wine cellar, now swathed in cobwebs. Leonato began
bellowing once more, Claudio joining him, speaking of broken honours and betrayed trusts. The
only maid present, Ursula, began to creep to the closed door, but stopped dead when booming
knocks began to emit from the

Comparison and Contrast between American and Indian...
Fasting and Feasting is a novel written by Anita Desai that narrates the story of the protagonist,
Uma, and her family s life. The novel is divided in two parts. Part one deals with Uma s life in
India until the tragic death of her cousin Anamika, and part two tells the story of Uma s brother,
Arun, as he spends his summer with the Pattons, a typical American suburban family. Throughout
the novel, Desai explores the theme of family life and uses the novel s two settings, America and
India, to compare and contrast the values and customs that constitute each respective culture s
family life. At first glance, American and Indian families are foils of one another because of the
relationships between the family members that composed them. As... Show more content on

This quote is an example of how in Indian society, even a distant relative can exert life changing
influence on a person. On the contrary, in the Patton s family life there seems to be no influence
coming from extended family members. The limited time frame in which Arun lives with the
Pattons does not provide extensive insight of the family s life. Because of this particular way that
Desai chose to write about the Pattons, the reader is led to believe that affiliations with extended
family are inexistent in the American family s household.
The consolidated nature of Indian families gives extended family members the power to have great
influence over their younger relatives. If this aspect of Indian family life holds true, then it is
natural for parents to have a colossal amount of influence over their children. In the Indian culture,
parents are a symbol of unquestionable authority and the unmovable force of their household. We
can see that Indian children are educated

Ethnography of Tea
Background
China
The origins of tea are rooted in China (Food Timeline). According to legend, the beneficial
properties of tea were first discovered by the Emperor Shen Nung in the year 2737 B.C. He drank
only boiled water for hygienic purposes, and one day while he drank a breeze rustled the branches
of a tree and a few leaves fell into his cup. Creating the first cup of tea. It is challenging to know
whether or not the emperor was real or just a part of the spiritual and cultural development of
ancient China. China was not unified as an empire until the third century, so it is unlikely
emperors existed back then. One thing that is known is that tea was popular in China thousands
of years ago. The first written reference of tea is in the third century B.C. A famous surgeon
recommended the beverage to patients to increase concentration and alertness. Tea was first
written as tu in ancient texts. This caused a good deal of confusion because the same Chinese
character was used for both tea and Chinese sow thistles. Between 206 B.C. and A.D. 220 a Han
Dynasty emperor ruled that when referring to tea, the characters should be pronounced as cha .
From here on, tracing tea s history became easier because tea acquired its own individual character
(Food Timeline).
Cultural Significance
China The Tang Dynasty (A.D. 618 906) was often referred to as the golden age of tea (Food
Timeline). This was the first time that tea was not only

Forgive, not because they deserve forgives, but because you deserve peace. It s not easy to stop
blaming someone s fault, especially for someone who do wrong to us. In the book The
Sunflower written by Simon Wiesenthal, a survivor of the Holocaust during World War II, he
described his conflict with Karl, a dying Nazi soldier who killed many innocent Jews and
begging for forgiveness for his outrageous crime at the end of his life. At the end of this sad and
tragic episode, Simon did not response to Karl s request directly; instead he left us a tough
question: What should you have done? Based on what Karl had done during World War II and his
repentance, each person might have their own point of view about where should we draw the line
of forgiveness. But, in my opinion, while it might be true... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

Although Karl appeared to be a murderer since he killed so many innocent Jews during World

specifically, Milgram displayed the data that twenty five out of forty subjects choose to fully obey
the order even though their actions would be harmful for learners (Milgram 64). This experiment
displayed a persuasive evidence to show that people attend to follow the command from the
authority; even the order might have conflict with their humanity. Just like in Karl s case, he

Hildegard Alleluia Essay
Egeria is perceived as a mysterious worshipper of her time, around the fourth century. Hildegard
of Bingen is believed to be a twelfth century renaissance woman. Due to time and lack of proper
records, details about Egeria are not well known. However, people speculate that she was a
Spanish nun who lived in the fourth century. Hildegard existed between the years 1098 and 1179
and she was a German medieval composer (Newman 273). Notably, the musical works of Hildegard
are set in a liturgical way.
Hildegard s Alleluia is a typical plain chant with the main message being unending praises for
Virgin Mary. It is done by a group of soloists who take a lead in turns as the others give
responses. The piece is monophonic, that is one note per syllable, with minimal movement.
Notably the single melody has no accompaniment (Newman 273). Being a sacred text, it is meant
to be used during worship and mostly during feasts to honor Mary especially in the Roman
Catholic setting. The work of Hildegard generally portrays great knowledge and wisdom in the
field of music. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Chakra Essay
What chakras are and why we need to clean them daily Chakras are energy centers within the
human body that help to regulate all its processes, from organ function to the immune system
and emotions. It s the Sanskrit word translates to wheel. If you don t know what they look like,
here s a picture: There are seven main chakras and each of them has its own vibrational
frequency, colour, and function that help make us humans. When a chakra is blocked or
imbalanced, it can affect your body, your mood, your job, your financial, and your relationships
with others. Basically it will affect your entire life. Below are functions for each one and how
they affect you when they re balanced and imbalance. Root Chakra: Safety, grounding, and right
to live in the psychical world. Its colour is ruby red. Balanced: Feeling secure about your home,
family, finance, and career. You stay grounded and live in the present moment. Your life will be
full with abundance because this chakra is the foundation of anything you want to have or achieve

Net Operating Income NOI
A company s operating income after operating expenses are deducted, but before income taxes
and interest are deducted. If this is a positive value, it is referred to as net operating income, while
a negative value is called a net operating loss (NOL).
Notes:
NOI is often viewed as a good measure of company performance. Some believe this figure is less
susceptible than other figures to manipulation by management.
(Investopedia (2005))
OPERATING INCOME = REVENUES В– (FIXED COSTS + VARIABLE COSTS)
Revenue calculations: $ 240,000
20,000 * $ 12.00 = $ 240,000
Overhead Cost:
Rent: $ 1,750 per month, Yearly cost: $ 21,000
1750* 12 = 21,000 or $ 21,000
Fixed Cost $ 120,000
Salaries + Overhead Cost
99,000 + 21,000 = 120,000 or $ 120,000
Variable Cost $ 8,000
Variable cost: 20,000 * 0.40 = $ 8,000

Analysis Of The Nymph s Reply To The Shepherd
No matter how much you ve tried and no matter how long you ve waited for the one you love
because if you really love that person you re willing to wait for him/her no matter what happened.
In the shepherd s desperation, he resorts to materialism as he believes this is the only way his
love will be returned. However, the nymph in The Nymph s Reply to the Shepherd is not so easily
seduced by such attractive images, pointing out that flowers do fade and all of the things the
shepherd promises Soon break, soon wither, soon forgotten.
From the very beginning it is written whole heartedly by Christopher Marlowe, deep words were the
ones to show the impact of love in this life. Love your life that gives the perfection. It gives me an
impression of having the good side or the brighter feeling of being loved. It makes me happy to
read this kind of poem while conceptualizing the essence of having myself in the situation of the
author. The author show his full respect to his loved one and I felt so in love with the way how
did the author dedicate his love only for his loved one. Having this kind of poem in my mind
makes me feel the right things to do and to think while being in love with a person. The reply of
Sir Walter Raleighto Christopher Marlowe s poem is very entertaining because of the conviction
that Sir Walter Raleigh s reply is a total rejection to each and every word that Marlowe has been
written. However, I feel sad for that part of the confession because being

Individual Subjectivity And The Question Of Selfhood Essay
Individual subjectivity and the question of selfhood have been common themes in Caribbean
literature throughout the years, as the Caribbean has struggled to find its own identity.
This search for selfhood is most evident in the work Lucy by Jamaica Kincaid. In this text, Lucy,
a young woman from the Caribbean, moves to America to work as an au pair for a rich couple,
Lewis and Mariah. However, she has not moved here for the money alone. Instead, Lucy is trying
to escape her Caribbean roots and find a new identity in North America. To what extent, then, is
Lucy able to change her selfhood? How malleable is a person s individual subjectivity? To answer
these questions, it is important to evaluate what affect various factors had on Lucy s sense of self,
paying close attention to her race and gender, the other people and the society that she chooses to
surround herself with, and her own internal desire to change who she is. After exploring these
topics, it should be safe to conclude that altering one s individual subjectivity is extremely
difficult, if not impossible, and Lucy is no exception. While there are many personal factors and
situations that dictate Lucy s experiences growing up and her opportunities in life, there are none
as dominant as her gender and her race. Being a woman impacted Lucy in many ways, from her job
opportunities to her sexuality. However, the impact of her gender on her life is most evident
through her relationship with her mother. This

The Culture Of National Culture
What is Culture?
Essentially, culture is the set of values, beliefs, rules, and institutions held by a group of people
(Wild and Wild 2016, p.70). Oftentimes, culture is thought of in terms of National Culture. National
Culture is sustained and encouraged by nation states through the construction of monuments,
museums and other buildings, which protect the heritages of significant events and people (Wild
and Wild 2016, p.70). They also play a role in ensuring business decisions preserve cultural
treasures, such as in the case of heritage listed sites or buildings (Wild and Wild 2016, p.70).
National Culture consists of six dimensions, which represent independent preferences that

Culture is made up of a number of building blocks, which provide a much fuller understanding
than what is distinctly national (Wild and Wild 2016, p.73). These components are: aesthetics,
values and attitudes, manners and customs, social structure, religion, personal communication,
education and, physical and material environments (Wild and Wild 2016, p.73). Values are
ideas and beliefs to which people have an emotional attachment; they affect work ethic and
materialism (Wild and Wild 2016, p.74). Attitudes are influenced by underlying values and are
positive or negative reactions towards ideas or objects (Wild and Wild 2016, p.74). Attitudes are
more flexible than values and often change over time as people mature and have different
experiences. Aesthetics are what a culture considers good taste in the arts. It includes the use of
colour, symbols and materials (Wild and Wild 2016, p.74). Manners involve what are considered
appropriate ways of dressing, speaking, and behaving in a certain culture (Wild and Wild 2016,
p.75). It is of particular importance when conducting international business. Customs are specific
patterns of behaviour in particular circumstances, which have been passed down through the
generations of a culture (Wild and Wild 2016, p.75). Customs may either be from folk culture or
from popular culture (Wild and Wild 2016, p.75). Social Structure represents the primary

Biological Causes Of Depression
Everyone will have a sad moment in their life, whether it is a death, a friend betraying he or she,
or not getting accepted to the college of his or her choice. Depression can be described with
many different words, but it will come down to sadness. People who live with depression will
see lack of joy, energy, and happiness. They will not enjoy life, or living. They see it as pointless
and useless. Many people will have a depressing moment at some point in their lifetime. The people
who develop depressiondo not have to be poor or unsuccessful. They can be making millions a
year and still be depressed, showing that money and success does not guarantee happiness. To be

People who suffer from depression may experience learned helplessness, which is a behavioral
view. This can be when someone has so much stress that they cannot handle, they stop trying to
handle it. When they can no longer handle their stress, they become helpless, which will lead to
hopelessness. The cognitive theory is more about the thought process and what one may believe
when he or she is suffering from depression. People who are depressed may think that they are
worthless if they fail a test, or if they do not make all As for a semester. People who constantly
think about negative experiences may develop depression, but also other disorders. Another sign
of depression is when someone is always trying to figure out what caused something else to
happen. One may say it is their fault the assignment was turned in late and because of that he or
she will now fail the class. He or she looks at something happening because of something
negative. When someone looks at life in a negative way he or she has a pessimistic view on life;
however, having an optimistic view is the opposite. People with the optimistic view may say the
professor will give out more than just that assignment and they can make it up.
The last factor of depression is sociocultural factors. The main sociocultural factor that can increase
the chances of depression is wealth. People who have more money are less likely to

Compare And Contrast Immanuel Kant And Kant
I will compare Immanuel Kant s and John Stuart Mills methods of determining the moral action
in a situation by using the issue of abortion, and come to conclusion of whose argument is
stronger. Abortion is the discontinuation of a pregnancy, which is generally followed by the
death the fetus (Merriam Webester), and there are many moral questions raised with the issue
which make it a heated topic in popular culture. The one that will be discussed in this paper
included is it morally right to kill if the fetus is a person, if the mother s life is in danger, if the
mother s life is not in danger, if the pregnancy was accidental.

Christ instead of wealth, and becoming a proactive member of the community.

Gas Engines Vs. Diesel Engines
Gas engines versus diesel engines has got to be one of the biggest controversial topics in the
automotive world. People have been arguing which is better for years upon years, and it is time
to finally come to a conclusion. Anyone can probably notice that in almost every family there is
a certain vehicle preference based off of the engine that runs them, but the term vehicle is
extremely broad. To be more specific, especially in the southern part of the United States, those
families have specific truck engines that they prefer. Either a person drives a truck for work or
they drive a truck because they love them. Either way, nearly everyone in most of the United
States has at least one truck in their family because they are just simply work horses. It s also a
huge part of the culture in the south to have a truck. Just about every boy and even a lot of girls
want their first vehicle to be a truck. A pickup is one of the most reliable tools someone can own.
Nearly every pickup enthusiast or working individual needs a gas or diesel truck, and the better
choice is a diesel truck. The initial cost of a diesel truck can be daunting for someone looking for a
new truck to think about especially when compared to a gas truck. On Ford.com a F 250 XL is
$32,535 and a F 150 XL is $26,540. Now what some people will probably say if they heard that is

1920s Car Industry
Contrary to Wilson s decrepit car garage, the auto repair industry changed rapidly in growth as
well as in jobs during the early twentieth century, while further straddling a wedge within the
social hierarchy as automobiles became more widespread in usage. The automobile industry
became an oligopoly with the formation of the Big Three: Ford, General Motors, and Chrysler
(controlling 70% of the industry), as the rest produced luxury vehicles for the upper class
(Batchelor). Companies such as Ford evolved their vehicles, such as introducing interchangeable

Auto mechanics often had a negative perception of all their customers from different social
classes, believing they were all ignorant due to their lack of technological knowledge, and thus
could be exploited for financial gain (Borg, Auto Mechanics: Technology and Expertise ). On the
contrary side vehicle owners often perceived the mechanics to be of low social class and thus
intelligence. For example, Hudson Motor Company had car manuals telling their wealthy
customers to be patient with car mechanics when they were repairing the car, since many are from
lower socioeconomic backgrounds and thus were not as smart as the wealthy car owner (Borg, The

making the profession heavily reliant on experience (Borg, Auto Mechanics: Technology and

This theory is one of the first theory that emerged in solving health related behaviour. It attempts to

Middle School Curriculum Essay
Across the nation, urban school districts are trying to identify the most effective setting for sixth
graders: K 6, K 8 or 6 8 grade level configurations. The middle school configuration began in the
1950s and increased in popularity in the 1980s. The creation of middle schools was predicated on
the assumption that the middle grades are not a time for academic learning so much as the social
adjustment, individual growth coping with early adolescence, and looking out for the needs of the
whole child (Yecke, 2005).
The study of elementary school adolescent students and their successful transition to middle
school is an essential focus for the continued vitality of our educational system. This is evidenced

America As A Melting Pot
As soon as someone calls the United States a melting pot, I immediately picture the School House
Rock music video in which hundreds of happy immigrants dive into the pot to swim together in
harmony. The idea of America as a melting pot is, on the surface, a good intentioned metaphor that
carries with it the implication of our unity within one, uniquely American culture. Unfortunately,
this metaphor carries negative connotations as well, including forced assimilation into the majority
as you melt away into the mix. Imagine five pieces of chocolate, one white, added to a heated
saucepan; eventually, it all turns brown. Despite the multiplicity of cultures added to this melting
pot, something is lost in the final product: diversity. In a melting pot, it is suggested that we blend
together; we are indistinct; we are Americans united in one culture, one language, one creed.
Simply stated, this is not an accurate representation of our country s culture or its citizens. I find
the stew to be a much more appropriate metaphor. Even when heated and stirred, a stew maintains
its individual elements (potatoes, beef, onions, carrots, celery, etc.), but also allows for some
transfer of flavors. The beef flavor is infused with notes of carrot and onion; the carrots have the
added flavors of the broth and beef. The stew continues to have unique, individual elements, but it
tastes better in tangent with other flavors. This is a more fitting description of America, as citizens

China s Struggle With Air Pollution
On October 1st, 1949, the People s Republic of China officially became a country and a player on
the world stage. Since then, China has entered a new Communist era of stability, with the Reform
and Opening Up policies of 1978 bringing in China s phenomenal economic growth (Tisdell, 2008).
However, with these advances in industry come a downside: air pollution. Since the early 1980s, air
pollutionlevels have been climbing to dangerous levels. However, in 2013, the scales tipped for
the worst. This certainly was not the first year that air contamination reared its ugly face,
blackening Chinese cities, closing roadways and sending children to the hospital. Although
difficulty breathing and poor air conditions had been a fact of life for most people in China,
awareness of the problem peaked that year, causing 2013 to be remembered as the year that China
s struggle with air pollution went mainstream. Shortly after the start of the year, Beijing and
surrounding regions were hit by pollution of unimaginable levels. At one point, in the middle of
January, the Air Quality Index level in Beijing peaked as high as 993, far beyond levels health
officials deem extremely dangerous. For comparison, on the same day in Miami, the AQI was 11
(Xinhua, 2013). As this air pollution issue continues to develop, it is vital that the Chinese put an
end to this air contamination because of the health issues, economic issues, and international
relation issues.

The Oregon Trail was a very important aspect in the history of our country s development. When

window of opportunity. The Oregon Trail was the only practical way to pass through the Rockies.
Pioneers crammed themselves into small wagons to try to make it to the unsettled land; however,
10% of these pioneers died on the way due to disease and accidents.
The journey along the Oregon Trail was a very long and rough experience. Stretching out to almost

The role of the Native Americans during the time of the Oregon Trail was a very important one.
The first section of the Oregon Trail bisected two major Native Americantribes, these were the
Cheyenne to the north and the Pawnee to the south. Many of the travelers feared attacks by these
tribes but were surprised when they were allowed to pass unharmed. The Native Americans were
the opposite of what was expected of them. They were very helpful to the travelers. They often
helped travelers pull out stuck wagons, rescue drowning travelers, and even round up lost cattle.
Native Americans also acted as guides, carried messages between wagon trains, traded with the
travelers, and even helped some travelers cross Indian land.
Most of the encounters with the Native Americans were simple business transactions. Travelers
traded clothing, rifles, and tobacco products in exchange for horses and food. However, many
travelers complained that the Native Americans charged expensive tolls for crossing their lands.
Conflicts between the Indians and the travelers were pretty rare. Out of the 500,000 people to
travel along the Oregon Trail fewer than 400 pioneers lost their lives due to attacks. When the
travelers had overgrazed the prairie grasses, burned all the available firewood, and killed all the
herds of buffalo attacks were expected by the travelers. In order to

Sports Related Knee Injuries Essay
Sports Related Knee Injuries
Sports have been around for a very long time. The Maya used to play a game with a rubber ball
similar to basketball. The nobility in the medieval era played a primitive form of tennis. Most
civilizations have had a sport of some kind. Sports are a way for us to get exercise and expend
energy. However, in modern society, sports have become much more competitive and more
popular. There are now numerous professional sports leagues and every year, millions of people
go to see professional sporting events. Nowadays in football, as a man on the defensive line, your
goal is to try and smash the quarterback, whereas 30 years ago, the goal was to just to win the
game. This change in mindset, to be more aggressive and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

These boots move the forces caused by a fall to the knee rather than the ankle or lower leg. The
ACL injury usually occurs when the knee is forcefully twisted, or hyper extended. Many patients
recall hearing a loud pop when the ligament tears, and feel the knee give way. This injury has
received a great deal of attention from orthopedic surgeons over the past 15 years and very
successful operations to reconstruct the torn anterior cruciate ligament have been performed. The
tearing oh the posterior cruciate ligament is another sports related knee injury, though less
common than the ACL. This injury can occur when the knee is forcefully twisted or hyper
extended, but other ligaments are usually injured or torn, before the posterior cruciate ligament
(PCL) is torn in these injuries. The most common way for the PCL alone to be injured is from a
direct blow to the front of the knee while the knee is bent. If the tibia moves too far back the
PCL can rupture. This is a common cause of injury to the PCL during an automobile accident. As
the automobile strikes another and stops suddenly, the front passenger or driver slides forward.
The bent knee hits the dashboard just below the kneecap. This forces the tibia backward on the
femur tearing the PCL. The same force can occur during a fall on the bent knee, where the force of
the fall on the tibia pushes it back

Coyote Omnivore
The Coyote, part of the biological family of canidae, look appears in between a wolf and fox, and
is an opportunistic omnivore predator and scavenger that it s native in North America. Coyote are
highly adaptable species, even when it moves into human occupied territory. They adjust their
hunting techniques to whatever prey they laid its eye onto. For huntingsmaller prey alone, they
usually stalk behind the prey and pounce onto them; for bigger prey such as deer, they hunt in small
packs and take down the prey as one. Because of their ability of adapting most habitats, like
deserts, plains, and grasslands, they can spread their habitat range all across the continent, even in
large cities in urban area (Baker Bonine 2015). Originating in the west of North America, the coyote
spread eastward into Ontario, and continue move forwards to Quebec and other eastern provinces
(Dumancic Caverley, 2014). In recent decades, coyote had expanded its range and habitat though its

NCAA Recruiting Issues
Once the proposal was shown, the NCAA council and the committee made all necessary changes;
they were then able to call for a special convention that same year in 1973 (Katz Seifried 2014).
This time, Sherman proposed three legislative and three competitive divisions (Katz Seifried 2014).
The institutions would be able to pick a division without considering their football teams, and then
the CollegeFootball Committee would determine where the college football team should fall
and the institution would follow suit (Katz Seifried 2014). He also proposed by 1975 that there
would be 39 national championships and 10 in each division (Katz Seifried 2014). Once brought
to a vote, the results were much different: 366 were in favor and only 13 were not (Katz Seifried
2014). The birth of the three divisions we know of today was then officially born, but these three
divisions all had their own distinct... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Recruiting can happen face to face contact, phone calls or through email. A contact can happen at
any time a college coach says more than hello during a face to face meeting with a student athlete
off the college campus. An evaluation happens when a college coach observes a student athlete
practicing or competing. A verbal commitment occurs when a student athlete verbally agrees to play
sports for a college before he or she signs the National Letter of Intent. A verbal commitment is not
set in stone, so at any time the student athlete or college can withdraw from the agreement. When
the student athlete commits to attend a NCAA Division I, II, or III school, he or she signs a National
Letter of Intent, agreeing to attend that school for one academic year (NCAA Recruiting, 2015).

Dn The Hereditary Material
Deoxyribonucleic acid (DNA) is the hereditary material in humans. It is contained in the nucleus
of nearly every cell in the human body and is unique to all individuals except in cases of identical
twins. Thus, DNA can be used to identify suspects in forensic casework. DNA can be left behind
at forensic crime scenes in a variety of ways. Common sources of human DNAat crime scenes
include: saliva, blood, semen, skin, and hair follicles. Saliva samples can provide high quality
and high quantity DNA, but they do have some special issues associated with them (Nemoda, et
al., 2011). Saliva samples contain many different substances that could actively degrade the
sample. For example, saliva naturally contains microbes that could contaminate the sample,
making it seem like there is more suspect DNA present than there actually is (Nemoda, et al.,
2011). Also, saliva fluids originate from multiple glands that secrete at different rates in different
people, so some samples may contain less DNA than others (Nemoda, et al., 2011). The DNA
evidence acquired at crime scenes is analyzed using Forensic DNA Profiling.
Forensic DNA Profiling is an important tool in forensic science for human identification and
paternity testing. Profiling utilizes short tandem repeat sequences (STRs) or variable number
tandem repeat sequences (VNTRs) for individualization. STRs are short regions of DNA that are
repeated numerous times and can vary in number of copies between individuals (figure 1). VNTR

was recognized by her father, and he started managing her shortly after, so he could get her a

churches while he preached. This resulted in Aretha Franklin getting signed to her first record
deal with J.V.B. Records Label. Her first studio album was titled Songs Of Faith . Although this
did not put her on the map as the Queen of Soul. Aretha decided at the age of 18 that she wanted
to go in the direction of Sam Cooke and sing Pop music. It was not until she signed with the
Columbia Records in 1960, that she had her first single chart the Billboard on the Hot 100 with
her song Won t Be Long off her first pop studio album Aretha: With the Ray Bryant Combo. With
her talent Franklin was able to record in diverse genres such as vocal jazz, blues, standards,

Advantages And Disadvantages Of Overpopulation
Overpopulation is one of the biggest problems for India. It is the root cause of poverty and poor
health with in the country. The rate of increase of population, especially during the last sixty five
years have been alarming. The standard of living has gone miserably low. Beside the social well
being, the economic prosperity of that specific modern nation is dependent on the rate of its
populationgrowth. A balance growth of population is desirable for economic growth and
development. Overpopulation, on the other hand, puts a strain on the available resources, hinders
economic growth, disturbs the food and water supply, and exhausts the available fuel.
Internationally speaking, population pressure ultimately leads to political tensions, envy and
distrust, and sometimes even to war.
The relationship between the human population and its local environment is unbalanced. This is
problematic because as individuals, we rely on a local area for subsistence; therefore, we are
limited by the productivity of a given area. If productivity does not ... Show more content on

will not be solved without population control . We realize in the context of India s problem, that
birth control is not necessarily the answer to the problem. The answer lies in an integrated
programme, comprising improved land use, conservation of soil, water, forests and grass lands, and
technical assistance. All of these must be undertaken on an international, rather than merely
national scale. The threat presented by the problem of overpopulation to economic progress and
world peace is obvious. A developing country, like India, cannot afford this in its present socio
economic context. The resulting economic frustration will create resentment among poverty tossed
masses. The main goal is to control population growth to promote their own economic well being

Community
A community is a group of people interacting in a meaningful way with regard to something they
share in common. It used to be that a community, in order to function as a group and interact, had
to be in the same geographic location or at least within driving distance. Since the internet has now
become so widely available we find that people with common interests and goals are reaching
across vast distances to interact with each other. There is even language translation software
available that can translate other languages into one s own. These have begun to break down
previous barriers such as distance and language but even cultural barriers may become a thing of
the past. In Mim Udovich s A Secret Society of the Starving, the author describes a communitythat
meets online to share feelings about their eating disorders. In Shari Caudron s Befriending Barbie,
the author writes of her experience at a Barbie convention. Not only are online communities

How The Other Half Lives
Well done, Jacob Riis, well done. In the book How the Other Half Lives, published in 1890, harsh
criticisms and observations, along with photojournalism, of the appalling conditions of New York
City tenements and their neighborhoods are examined through the eyes of Jacob Riis. As a reporter
at the time for The New York Tribune, his writing and photography sparked reform and forced
many people, even the likes of Theodore Roosevelt, to focus their attention on the horrendous
conditions in which the immigrants of tenement neighborhoods lived in. Many immigrants have
Jacob Riis to thank for in part, for he helped shine a bright light on them at a time when many
others kept them in the darkness. Just as the Bible s opening chapter is named Genesis, Riis s aptly
named opening chapter, Genesis of the Tenement, gives a brief history on how the tenements came
to be in the city and sets the scene for one of the most notorious slums in New York City, Five
Points. Throughout the first several chapters, Riis talks in general of the dire situation of the people
living in the tenements and the tenements themselves. He then goes on to discuss the Italians, Irish,
Chinese, Jews, Arabs, blacks, women, and children within these tenements separately chapter by
chapter. One may notice the copious amounts of stereotypes, prejudice in some sense, he uses when
writing about the Italians, Irish, Chinese, and Jews. However, one has to remember the
fundamental reason of his writing when reading

Regulated Power Supply Paper
(Moodle) Week 8 Regulated Power Supply (2015)
AC:
The Alternating current flows one way, then another way, continually reversing direction. It is
usually called an AC or Mains. With the UK mains supply about 230Volts and has a frequency of
50Hz Hertz which mean it will change the direction, and back again 50 times a second. Alternating
current is used in homes, transformers, and other places.
Rectifier:
Rectifier converts alternating current to direct current the process is known as rectification. The
rectifier is an electronic circuit. Rectifier diode lets the electrical current flow in only one
direction and is mainly used for power supply operations. They can handle higher current flow
than regular ones. The one that is located on switch mode power supply is 800 V and 1 Amp.
The diode 3 and 2 will act as open switches, diodes 1 and 4 will act as closed switches and will
start conducting the energy coming flowing thru.
Smoothing Capacitor:
The smoothing capacitor job is to convert the half wave or full wave output of the rectifier into
smooth DC. It is mostly used to remove ripple from the output of the direct current power supply.
On the Switch mode power supply paper sheet we have identified that the smoothing ... Show more

increase voltage is called step up transformer, and one that decrease voltage is set down.
Transformers only work if alternating current is given to the primary coil. If direct current was

primary and secondary system. The magnetic force of the first set of wires causes the second set
to change the power. The one set is an incoming voltage which is usually thicker and the other one

Contribution Of Confucius
Confucius was born in 551 BC and died in 479 BC at age seventy two. He was a great influence
on chinese teachings. He was widely known as Master for the great influence he brought upon
central China. The translation of his name literally means Master Kong. He was the author and
editor of several chinese texts. After his death, these texts and teachings were created into the
Analects. The Analects reflect and provide discussions of Confuciusand his disciples. Through the
reading of the thirteenth and fourteenth chapters from the Analects, one can conclude that
Confucius taught governmental morality, the behavior of a ruler, how rulers should maintain order,
and mistakes of rulers.
Confucius taught that government should be strict and precise. In government, princes were to
appoint the minister by following the rules of propriety. Ministers were to follow the orders of the
prince with adherence. The ruler should appoint office positions to whom they know. In
government, the ruler must rectify himself and others. Confucius thought that the first thing to be
done in a government was to rectify names to ensure social harmony. The rectifying of names was
crucial because they needed to be correct so that the language of things was the truth. The language
of things needed to be truthful to ensure success of things. Without the success of things, music and
proprieties would not prosper. When these things do not thrive, order is not restored and the people
would not be aware of how

Community Water Fluoridations
The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services recommendation for the optimal fluoride
level in drinking water to prevent tooth decay have changed from 0.7 1.2 milligrams per liter
stablished in 1962 to 0.7 milligrams of fluoride per liter of water. This change was the result of a
systematic reviews of the scientific evidence related community water fluoridation since it was
incorporated in 1945. As a result of community water fluoridation there was an increase in the
percentage of children who were caries free and a significant decreases in the number of teethor

proven to be effective in decreasing dental caries prevalence and severity. I know that many parents
nowadays, are against the use of any fluoride product for their kids and I respect that. However, I
feel that in most cases they are missed informed and make their decision based on personal believe
and not in scientific evidence researches. I feel that U.S. is privileged to have public health system
that implement this measure to prevent one of the most common chronic diseases of childhood. In
countries in where fluoridated water does not exist, the high incidence of caries is evidence
throughout the whole population. I know that water fluoridation alone is not enough, but it is a
good start. Other preventing strategies such as nutritional counselling, sealants, oral health
education, regular visit to the dentist, fluoride applications, fluoridated toothpaste and mouth rinse
will also contribute to lower the risk of dental decay, and benefit the part of the population that does

King Leopold s Ghost By Adam Hochschild
The late 1800 s marked the peak of imperialism throughout Europe, primarily Africa. As a new
century began to evolve, many European powers aggressively decide to surmount their power in
many parts of Africa. More specifically, King Leopold s journey to conquer the Congo and
exploit the lucrative rubber/ivory market accurately describes the forced efforts of tyranny. King
Leopold s Ghost by Adam Hochschild explains the propaganda remunerated by people in favor
and opposition of King Leopold s conquest. It also features the contributions of journalists and
writers in relation to Leopold colonizing the Congo through means of propaganda, missionaries,
use of other countries, and other various other methods to end his rule and change the common
perceptions of imperialism. The main goal, however, of writers in the Congo, was to let the
world know of Leopold s actions and to end his selfish ruling. The role of journalists became most
prevalent beginning in the 1880 s. In 1885, under the pretense of philanthropy, King Leopold II
Belgium claimed land along the Congo River as his personal property. He named it the Congo Free
State, and for the next twenty three years, he enslaved the Congolese and exploited their land. It is
estimated that their population decreased by 10 million due to starvation, murder and disease. But
while the king was forcefully pursuing his actions of forced labor, the world was largely unaware
of what was occurring in the Congo. It would take many years

Nonconformity In Ayn Rand s The Fountainhead
It is all too common in today s society to follow the accepted standards rather than promote one s
own ideas. Even those who disagree with this mentality often do not make their ideas known for
fear of backlash. Ayn Rand presents Howard Roark as an incorruptible individual unafraid of
disagreement within her novel The Fountainhead. Roark and his creator share the same ideals:
individuality, nonconformity, and the individual pursuit of happiness. Roark s motives are simply
to seek his own satisfaction without interfering with the contentment of others, and he never falters
in his drive to achieve his ultimate desires. His behavior wholly reflects this outlook, making him
the perfect ambassador for Rand s philosophy. Because of this, Howard... Show more content on

He realizes that in order to understand a situation objectively, he must confront it honestly and
purely. Doing this promotes his well being because facing situations in this manner helps him gain
an insightful perspective, which gives him an advantage over those who do not understand the
whole picture. Ellsworth Toohey, for example, encourages others to abandon independent thought
in favor of a twisted sense of selflessness designed to turn them into drones feeding off the
speculation of others. While talking to his niece, Toohey declares that consciously focusing on one
s own emotions makes a person become selfish and egotistical. He explains, That is why the mind is
so unreliable. We must not think. We must believe (365). Essentially, Toohey preaches that people
must abandon free thought because it causes them to dwell on their own emotions, which makes
them egotistical. However, ignoring free thought requires that one ignore the truth. Roark, on the
other hand, believes that one must not reject his own emotions so that he may find the truth and
reach his or her goals, as long as those goals do not interfere with the well being of another. In this
sense, Toohey and Roark uphold two totally opposing ideas, further establishing a contrast between

  • 2. Modes Of Being Often when I sleep, I neither feel myself (my senses), nor have I dreams. But, when I wake up, my intellect instantly apprehends different things. I feel things, I see things, I taste things, I smell things, and I hear things. Thus, it is true, the first thing grasped by the intellect is being. As, Avicenna said: that which the intellect first conceives as, in a way, the most evident, and to which it reduces all its concepts, is being1. Then, if all beings from the smallest particle to God himself, is being, or if being is universal, how do I differentiate the diversity of all that I perceive each time when I awake? St. Thomas said there two ways being is expressed, or two ways to of adding to being. But why do we add to being as if... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The term used positively is a thing. The essence make a thing what it is, different from all other thing. Therefore a thing expresses the essence of a being whereas the being express the existence of a thing or the to be . The second term used while considering every being is itself is One. One is negative, because when being is considered per se, it cannot be divide, in other words is One. Thus, the term One is used the express the undividedness of a being. Then again, as I mentioned above, the general modes can be considered in two ways. The second mode necessitate to follow every being in relation to others. This first way is the distinction between a being to another being. The distinction between one being to another being is called another. For example: Mum my job is finish now, can you give me another one. The term another make a distinction to one thing to another. The second way is the correspondence of one being to another being. This is possible only as St. Thomas explained: if something which is such that it agrees with every being. Such a being is the soul, which, as is said in The Soul, in some way is all things 3. The soul on the other hand has the knowing and the appetitive powers. As Aristotle said good is what men desires it follows that Good expresses the correspondence of being through the appetitive power. And Truth is the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. G Setosus Lab Report INTRODUCTION Although many researchers have found that Gammarus setosus lives in panarctic region, few of them work to specify whether it predominantly lives in rocky zones or sandy zones. To determine this, we set out for a choice experiment on G. setosus that can help us determine its distribution more precisely. Gammarus setoseus is a kind of tiny, shrimp like oceanic organism. Adult G. setosus is typically 20 35mm long (Weslawski 2009), but the organism we use in our research is generally 5 10mm, which can be classified as juvenile. The head and body of G. setosus is covered with grey and translucent thin shell, which have a function of support and protection. On the top part of G. setosus, there are two dark black eyes and a mouthpart, as well as two slender extended tentacles. It has a dozen of limbs arranged in two lines under its body, which... • 4. American Social Equality Social Equality has always been a concern of persons living in the United States. One of the main points was the issue of same sex marriage. Same sex marriage isn t a new concept in the American social way of life. States used to have the legal power to dictate what the definition of marriage is and who has the right to marry. In the Supreme Case of Obergefell v. Hodges, homosexuals now have the constitutional right for them to be able to marry. In America there are two definitions of marriage, the traditional and same sex. Traditional marriage is defined as a marriage between man and woman. This is defined through the free exercise of religion, people have the right to believe what we want regarding our religious views, but we can t always act on them if it interferes with someone else s rights. So in the instance of granting marriage licenses clerks can have opposing views on homosexuals getting married. They can believe that they should not be able to have the right to get married and should only be reserved for traditional marriages, and with their view deny any licenses that would go against their personal views, but they could not physically reject the marriage. What Christians Mean When They Refer to Jesus as Lord When we think of the name Lord as Christians we think of God, as he is powerful, almighty and great. Jesus however was a human and to be called Lord is very special because no one in history has been called that before. As Christians we would say the name Lord means miracle worker, ruler and faithful. Jesus was mainly all these things as he performed many miracles in his life which many different types of people benefited from which are recorded in the Gospels. Many Jews thought of Jesus as a lord because he helped many of them; outcasts, Romans, women and the rich ands poor and many others he helped in his life on Earth. Jesus truly was a ... Jesus also had the power over death, which is also referred to in the Synoptic Gospels in the story of Raising of Lazarus . When Jesus was leaving Judea he was told of one of his dear friend being ill but was already dead, they returned to Judea even though many people attacked Jesus before in this city. Him and his followers went to Lazarus tomb and Jesus said, Come out Lazarus , from the darkness emerged a man wrapped in grave clothes, they untied him and there was Lazarus standing as if nothing was wrong. [IMAGE]As Jesus was a Jew he helped many people of his religion but didn t believe entirely that his religion was right. In Mark s Gospel a man named Jarius who was a leader of a Synagogue in the area confronted Jesus, he said his daughter was dying and needed help, Jesus followed him to his house where his daughter was resting. Jesus sat by the girl and said you are only sleeping, wake up child . The girl awoke and started walking around the room. If Jesus has the power over death he must be a man that we can call Lord as Christians. Although the Cold War ended without major inter state hostilities between the United States and the Soviet Union, only the United States was left standing as a world superpower. The Russian economy was crippled as was its military severely limiting its ability to exert influence globally. Since 1999, the Russian budget has grown significantly , as has Moscow s willingness to engage in inter state conflict as observed in its Second Chechen War (once again gaining control of Chechnya after the first war half a decade prior resulted in a humiliating defeat), the 2008 war with Georgia (resulting in the expansion of South Ossetia and Abkhazia), and the current conflict with Ukraine as a result of the annexation of Crimea. Russian influence in the information age, however, is much wider than its physical lines of communication, meaning that the third end sought is to counter Russian propaganda and electronic influence; while Russian threats to cybersecurity are not specifically mentioned, cybersecurity as a whole concept is and we cannot ignore Russian capabilities as we implement the NSS. The final end is to open the door for cooperation with Russia. By achieving these ends, we are assured to continue a peaceful coexistence with Russia. As attainment of the ends will lead to the accomplishment of the stated NSS strategic goals, they are assessed as suitable. That is not to say that achieving them will be easy, but the NSS has identified very reasonable ways by which we can be successful. The ways by which we can achieve these ends are described in the NSS and NMS. First, multilateral sanctions in conjunction with allied nations will be used to levy costs and deter future aggression . Further, the United States has recommitted to honoring our security commitments with allies within the Russian sphere of influence with the intent of serving as a deterrent to Russian aggression via improved defensive capabilities (for countries such as ... Alfred Kinsey changed the way that people thought about sex. He did an important and monumental thing informing people and answering people s questions about sex. At one point in the movie it showed Kinsey reading a script from the bible where boys were supposed to control their nocturnal emissions, a natural and uncontrollable act of puberty, or they would be looked down upon by God. Considering the importance of the Middle Eastto Asiawill be the focus of this paper, in which the writer agreed with the assumption. Moreover, there will be reasons why the Middle East is still more important than Asia, along with comparison for each. And by the end of this essay, with backing from the main part, the conclusion will be able to show the supports for the mentioned opinion. To begin, we will start with the historical background of the US with the Middle East and Asia (mostly the US and the Middle East), in order to set a fundamental understanding. American government, for the whole historical period was likely to pursue interests beyond her land s border. There is an opinion that presidents since Harry Truman have recognized that there were four basic interests in the Middle East the Security of Israel, access to oil, cooperation with the Soviet Union (since the collapse of the Soviet Union in 1991, the interests doesn t exist anymore. • 11. Beatrice And Benedick Alternate Ending The clatter of china surrounded the small group of adults, small talk traded between too bright smiles. It was the day of the wedding, Claudio and Hero to be married off in mere minutes. A playful jab was shared between Beatrice and Benedick, words flying out faster than arrows. Leonato stood, using a dainty teaspoon to draw attention to himself, the light chatter fading to a dead silence. Nobody dared talk when the master of the household did. • 12. Comparison and Contrast between American and Indian... Fasting and Feasting is a novel written by Anita Desai that narrates the story of the protagonist, Uma, and her family s life. The novel is divided in two parts. Part one deals with Uma s life in India until the tragic death of her cousin Anamika, and part two tells the story of Uma s brother, Arun, as he spends his summer with the Pattons, a typical American suburban family. Throughout the novel, Desai explores the theme of family life and uses the novel s two settings, America and India, to compare and contrast the values and customs that constitute each respective culture s family life. At first glance, American and Indian families are foils of one another because of the relationships between the family members that composed them. As... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This quote is an example of how in Indian society, even a distant relative can exert life changing influence on a person. On the contrary, in the Patton s family life there seems to be no influence coming from extended family members. The limited time frame in which Arun lives with the Pattons does not provide extensive insight of the family s life. Because of this particular way that Desai chose to write about the Pattons, the reader is led to believe that affiliations with extended family are inexistent in the American family s household. The consolidated nature of Indian families gives extended family members the power to have great influence over their younger relatives. If this aspect of Indian family life holds true, then it is natural for parents to have a colossal amount of influence over their children. • 14. Cultural Development Of Ancient China Ella Sarachan 12/3/2015 Ethnography of Tea Background China The origins of tea are rooted in China (Food Timeline). According to legend, the beneficial properties of tea were first discovered by the Emperor Shen Nung in the year 2737 B.C. He drank only boiled water for hygienic purposes, and one day while he drank a breeze rustled the branches of a tree and a few leaves fell into his cup. Creating the first cup of tea. It is challenging to know whether or not the emperor was real or just a part of the spiritual and cultural development of ancient China. China was not unified as an empire until the third century, so it is unlikely emperors existed back then. One thing that is known is that tea was popular in China thousands of years ago. The first written reference of tea is in the third century B.C. A famous surgeon recommended the beverage to patients to increase concentration and alertness. Tea was first written as tu in ancient texts. This caused a good deal of confusion because the same Chinese character was used for both tea and Chinese sow thistles. Between 206 B.C. and A.D. 220 a Han Dynasty emperor ruled that when referring to tea, the characters should be pronounced as cha . From here on, tracing tea s history became easier because tea acquired its own individual character (Food Timeline). The piece is monophonic, that is one note per syllable, with minimal movement. Notably the single melody has no accompaniment (Newman 273). Individual Subjectivity And The Question Of Selfhood Essay Individual subjectivity and the question of selfhood have been common themes in Caribbean literature throughout the years, as the Caribbean has struggled to find its own identity. This search for selfhood is most evident in the work Lucy by Jamaica Kincaid. In this text, Lucy, a young woman from the Caribbean, moves to America to work as an au pair for a rich couple, Lewis and Mariah. However, she has not moved here for the money alone. Instead, Lucy is trying to escape her Caribbean roots and find a new identity in North America. To what extent, then, is Lucy able to change her selfhood? How malleable is a person s individual subjectivity? To answer these questions, it is important to evaluate what affect various factors had on Lucy s sense of self, paying close attention to her race and gender, the other people and the society that she chooses to surround herself with, and her own internal desire to change who she is. After exploring these topics, it should be safe to conclude that altering one s individual subjectivity is extremely difficult, if not impossible, and Lucy is no exception. While there are many personal factors and situations that dictate Lucy s experiences growing up and her opportunities in life, there are none as dominant as her gender and her race. Being a woman impacted Lucy in many ways, from her job opportunities to her sexuality. However, the impact of her gender on her life is most evident through her relationship with her mother. This ... • 30. Gas Engines Vs. Diesel Engines Gas engines versus diesel engines has got to be one of the biggest controversial topics in the automotive world. People have been arguing which is better for years upon years, and it is time to finally come to a conclusion. Anyone can probably notice that in almost every family there is a certain vehicle preference based off of the engine that runs them, but the term vehicle is extremely broad. To be more specific, especially in the southern part of the United States, those families have specific truck engines that they prefer. Either a person drives a truck for work or they drive a truck because they love them. Either way, nearly everyone in most of the United States has at least one truck in their family because they are just simply work horses. It s also a huge part of the culture in the south to have a truck. Just about every boy and even a lot of girls want their first vehicle to be a truck. A pickup is one of the most reliable tools someone can own. Nearly every pickup enthusiast or working individual needs a gas or diesel truck, and the better choice is a diesel truck. For example, Hudson Motor Company had car manuals telling their wealthy customers to be patient with car mechanics when they were repairing the car, since many are from lower socioeconomic backgrounds and thus were not as smart as the wealthy car owner (Borg, The Chauffeur Problem 824). The car owner s perceptions largely drew from the nature of an auto mechanics work, as Auto mechanics often used their 5 senses to find visual issues with cars, making the profession heavily reliant on experience (Borg, Auto Mechanics: Technology and Expertise ). The middle school configuration began in the 1950s and increased in popularity in the 1980s. The creation of middle schools was predicated on the assumption that the middle grades are not a time for academic learning so much as the social adjustment, individual growth coping with early adolescence, and looking out for the needs of the whole child (Yecke, 2005). The study of elementary school adolescent students and their successful transition to middle school is an essential focus for the continued vitality of our educational system. America As A Melting Pot As soon as someone calls the United States a melting pot, I immediately picture the School House Rock music video in which hundreds of happy immigrants dive into the pot to swim together in harmony. The idea of America as a melting pot is, on the surface, a good intentioned metaphor that carries with it the implication of our unity within one, uniquely American culture. Unfortunately, this metaphor carries negative connotations as well, including forced assimilation into the majority as you melt away into the mix. Imagine five pieces of chocolate, one white, added to a heated saucepan; eventually, it all turns brown. Despite the multiplicity of cultures added to this melting pot, something is lost in the final product: diversity. In a melting pot, it is suggested that we blend together; we are indistinct; we are Americans united in one culture, one language, one creed. Simply stated, this is not an accurate representation of our country s culture or its citizens. I find the stew to be a much more appropriate metaphor. Even when heated and stirred, a stew maintains its individual elements (potatoes, beef, onions, carrots, celery, etc.), but also allows for some transfer of flavors. The beef flavor is infused with notes of carrot and onion; the carrots have the added flavors of the broth and beef. The stew continues to have unique, individual elements, but it tastes better in tangent with other flavors. This is a more fitting description of America, as citizens ... Since then, China has entered a new Communist era of stability, with the Reform and Opening Up policies of 1978 bringing in China s phenomenal economic growth (Tisdell, 2008). However, with these advances in industry come a downside: air pollution. Since the early 1980s, air pollutionlevels have been climbing to dangerous levels. However, in 2013, the scales tipped for the worst. This certainly was not the first year that air contamination reared its ugly face, blackening Chinese cities, closing roadways and sending children to the hospital. Although difficulty breathing and poor air conditions had been a fact of life for most people in China, awareness of the problem peaked that year, causing 2013 to be remembered as the year that China s struggle with air pollution went mainstream. Shortly after the start of the year, Beijing and surrounding regions were hit by pollution of unimaginable levels. At one point, in the middle of January, the Air Quality Index level in Beijing peaked as high as 993, far beyond levels health officials deem extremely dangerous. For comparison, on the same day in Miami, the AQI was 11 (Xinhua, 2013). The most common way for the PCL alone to be injured is from a direct blow to the front of the knee while the knee is bent. If the tibia moves too far back the PCL can rupture. This is a common cause of injury to the PCL during an automobile accident. As the automobile strikes another and stops suddenly, the front passenger or driver slides forward. It is contained in the nucleus of nearly every cell in the human body and is unique to all individuals except in cases of identical twins. Thus, DNA can be used to identify suspects in forensic casework. DNA can be left behind at forensic crime scenes in a variety of ways. Common sources of human DNAat crime scenes include: saliva, blood, semen, skin, and hair follicles. Saliva samples can provide high quality and high quantity DNA, but they do have some special issues associated with them (Nemoda, et al., 2011). Saliva samples contain many different substances that could actively degrade the sample. For example, saliva naturally contains microbes that could contaminate the sample, making it seem like there is more suspect DNA present than there actually is (Nemoda, et al., 2011). Also, saliva fluids originate from multiple glands that secrete at different rates in different people, so some samples may contain less DNA than others (Nemoda, et al., 2011). The DNA evidence acquired at crime scenes is analyzed using Forensic DNA Profiling. Forensic DNA Profiling is an important tool in forensic science for human identification and paternity testing. Profiling utilizes short tandem repeat sequences (STRs) or variable number tandem repeat sequences (VNTRs) for individualization. STRs are short regions of DNA that are repeated numerous times and can vary in number of copies between individuals (figure 1). VNTR and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

In the book How the Other Half Lives, published in 1890, harsh criticisms and observations, along with photojournalism, of the appalling conditions of New York City tenements and their neighborhoods are examined through the eyes of Jacob Riis. As a reporter at the time for The New York Tribune, his writing and photography sparked reform and forced many people, even the likes of Theodore Roosevelt, to focus their attention on the horrendous conditions in which the immigrants of tenement neighborhoods lived in. Many immigrants have Jacob Riis to thank for in part, for he helped shine a bright light on them at a time when many others kept them in the darkness. Just as the Bible s opening chapter is named Genesis, Riis s aptly named opening chapter, Genesis of the Tenement, gives a brief history on how the tenements came to be in the city and sets the scene for one of the most notorious slums in New York City, Five Points. Throughout the first several chapters, Riis talks in general of the dire situation of the people living in the tenements and the tenements themselves. He then goes on to discuss the Italians, Irish, Chinese, Jews, Arabs, blacks, women, and children within these tenements separately chapter by chapter. Confucius taught that government should be strict and precise. In government, princes were to appoint the minister by following the rules of propriety. Ministers were to follow the orders of the prince with adherence. The ruler should appoint office positions to whom they know. In government, the ruler must rectify himself and others. Confucius thought that the first thing to be done in a government was to rectify names to ensure social harmony. The rectifying of names was crucial because they needed to be correct so that the language of things was the truth. The language of things needed to be truthful to ensure success of things. • 55. Community Water Fluoridations The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services recommendation for the optimal fluoride level in drinking water to prevent tooth decay have changed from 0.7 1.2 milligrams per liter stablished in 1962 to 0.7 milligrams of fluoride per liter of water. This change was the result of a systematic reviews of the scientific evidence related community water fluoridation since it was incorporated in 1945. As a result of community water fluoridation there was an increase in the percentage of children who were caries free and a significant decreases in the number of teethor tooth surfaces with caries in both children and adult. I feel like this because it is inexpensive, everybody that is exposed to fluoride is benefit, and it has proven to be effective in decreasing dental caries prevalence and severity. I know that many parents nowadays, are against the use of any fluoride product for their kids and I respect that. However, I feel that in most cases they are missed informed and make their decision based on personal believe and not in scientific evidence researches. I feel that U.S. is privileged to have public health system that implement this measure to prevent one of the most common chronic diseases of childhood. • 56. King Leopold s Ghost By Adam Hochschild The late 1800 s marked the peak of imperialism throughout Europe, primarily Africa. As a new century began to evolve, many European powers aggressively decide to surmount their power in many parts of Africa. More specifically, King Leopold s journey to conquer the Congo and exploit the lucrative rubber/ivory market accurately describes the forced efforts of tyranny. King Leopold s Ghost by Adam Hochschild explains the propaganda remunerated by people in favor and opposition of King Leopold s conquest. It also features the contributions of journalists and writers in relation to Leopold colonizing the Congo through means of propaganda, missionaries, use of other countries, and other various other methods to end his rule and change the common perceptions of imperialism. The main goal, however, of writers in the Congo, was to let the world know of Leopold s actions and to end his selfish ruling. The role of journalists became most prevalent beginning in the 1880 s. In 1885, under the pretense of philanthropy, King Leopold II Belgium claimed land along the Congo River as his personal property. He named it the Congo Free State, and for the next twenty three years, he enslaved the Congolese and exploited their land. It is estimated that their population decreased by 10 million due to starvation, murder and disease. But while the king was forcefully pursuing his actions of forced labor, the world was largely unaware of what was occurring in the Congo. It would take many years ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 57. Nonconformity In Ayn Rand s The Fountainhead It is all too common in today s society to follow the accepted standards rather than promote one s own ideas. Even those who disagree with this mentality often do not make their ideas known for fear of backlash. Ayn Rand presents Howard Roark as an incorruptible individual unafraid of disagreement within her novel The Fountainhead. Roark and his creator share the same ideals: individuality, nonconformity, and the individual pursuit of happiness. Roark s motives are simply to seek his own satisfaction without interfering with the contentment of others, and he never falters in his drive to achieve his ultimate desires. His behavior wholly reflects this outlook, making him the perfect ambassador for Rand s philosophy. Because of this, Howard... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... He realizes that in order to understand a situation objectively, he must confront it honestly and purely. Doing this promotes his well being because facing situations in this manner helps him gain an insightful perspective, which gives him an advantage over those who do not understand the whole picture. Ellsworth Toohey, for example, encourages others to abandon independent thought in favor of a twisted sense of selflessness designed to turn them into drones feeding off the speculation of others. While talking to his niece, Toohey declares that consciously focusing on one s own emotions makes a person become selfish and egotistical. He explains, That is why the mind is so unreliable. We must not think. We must believe (365). Essentially, Toohey preaches that people must abandon free thought because it causes them to dwell on their own emotions, which makes them egotistical. However, ignoring free thought requires that one ignore the truth. Roark, on the other hand, believes that one must not reject his own emotions so that he may find the truth and reach his or her goals, as long as those goals do not interfere with the well being of another. In this sense, Toohey and Roark uphold two totally opposing ideas, further establishing a contrast between the two ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
