Definitional Essay
Writing a definitional essay can be a challenging task, requiring a nuanced understanding of the
chosen topic and the ability to convey a clear and comprehensive definition to the audience. The
difficulty lies not only in defining the subject but also in ensuring that the definition captures the
essence of the concept, avoiding ambiguity and vagueness.
Crafting a well-structured definitional essay demands meticulous research to gather relevant
information, examples, and perspectives. The writer must delve deep into the intricacies of the
chosen concept, exploring its various dimensions and interpretations. Additionally, it requires the
skill to organize thoughts coherently, presenting a logical progression of ideas that leads the
reader to a comprehensive understanding of the subject.
One of the challenges in writing a definitional essay is striking the right balance between
providing a broad overview and delving into specific details. The essay should be accessible to a
diverse audience while still offering depth and insight. The writer must navigate the fine line
between being too broad, leaving the audience with a superficial understanding, and being too
narrow, potentially alienating readers who may not be familiar with specific aspects of the
concept.
Furthermore, the choice of language is crucial. The writer must communicate the definition with
clarity and precision, avoiding jargon that might confuse the audience. Achieving a tone that is
both informative and engaging is a delicate task, as the essay should not only define the concept
but also captivate the reader's interest.
In conclusion, writing a definitional essay is a complex endeavor that demands a thorough
understanding of the chosen topic, effective research skills, and the ability to articulate thoughts
clearly and engagingly. It requires striking a balance between breadth and depth, ensuring
accessibility without sacrificing depth of insight. For those facing challenges, seeking assistance

Why Don T Ocean Freeze Research Paper
Why don t Oceans freeze. In many parts of the world , winter temperatures drop
low enough to make rivers and lakes freeze. In these parts of the world, the ocean
will not freeze even though other water sources does. In the Arctic region, most of
it is a tundra, which include frozen soil and animals such as polar bears and
penguins. The ocean however is not frozen. One reason ocean water doesn t freeze
all the way through is because it s so salty. Salt lowers the freezing point of water,
meaning that fresh water (without salt) will freeze sooner than salt water; salt water
like the ocean has to get even colder than freshwater before it will freeze, and it
doesn t always necessarily reach that cold enough temperature. In addition to all
Definition Of Abortion Is Murder
There are many controversial topics in our day and age, anything from from the
color of a dress to a child choosing their own gender can and will be argued. With so
many touchy subjects, we are bound to stumble across topics that go against our faith
that the community around us may choose to support. This can split families and
friendships, so it is necessary to have an understanding on what these topics entail.
One of the most pressing subject is abortion, and whether it should be legal or not.
While this subject can be argued from many different viewpoints, I will do my best to
provide a thorough explanation that will leave you understanding why abortion is
murder. Life is something that is full of so many wonderful events, and it is also...

People can argue that a woman has the right to decide to have a kid or not, and
they do, but not once they are pregnant. I certainly supported a woman s right to
choose, but to my mind the time to choose was before, not after the fact. (Ann B.
Ross, Miss Julia Throws a Wedding). We all suffer consequences for the choices
that we make. I can go and co sign a loan, but my partner in the loan might not meet
up to their end of the bargain and not pay off the debt. This would leave me to pay
the debt, and I can t just bail myself out and kill the loan agreement. The loan was
something that was set in place and agreed upon. Any two people that get into a
relationship where having a child is possible needs to either make sure that they
do not get pregnant, or be ready to accept whatever consequences come about. This
can be called consequences, or it can be called a blessing. The only thing we can
do is play on the one string we have, and that is our attitude...I am convinced that
life is 10% what happens to me and 90% how I react to it. And so it is with
you...we are in charge of our attitudes. (Charles R. Swindoll). The situation is what
you make out of it, and we can always look for the best if we choose to. Abortion
Analyzing Oprah s Book Club
The information community I have chosen to study is book clubs. With the use of
the Internet, social media, and e books, today s version of a modern book club can
vary. Book clubs have a long and rich history, and help promote literacy through out
the area. Book clubs also give readers a voice and opinion they might not otherwise
have, as bookclubs also help improve a reader s lifestyle.
Past experiences with book clubs such as Oprah s Book Club is an excellent tool to
help attract readers as well as to reinforce an old past time, Oprah s Book Club also
helped paved the way for a larger audience and it also helped others expand in the

The Signs Of The Gospel Of John Essay
Introduction
Amidst the disciples that had already seen the resurrected Christ, Thomas declares
that he will not believe unless he personally sees and feels Jesus for himself. To
which, on His appearance, Jesus said to him, Because you have seen Me, have you
believed? Blessed are they who did not see, and yet believed. Although the gospel of
John is clear that Jesus preformed many signs that are not recorded, he states that
the ones he records are for the purpose that those who have not seen may believe
and have life in His name. Therefore, the eight signs John chooses are very
important. These signs take Jesus out of the realm of the pious rabbi and challenge
the reader to see the hand of God, indeed, God Himself, actively working in Jesus. It
is the presence of God in the signs that Jesus preforms that show His deity.
Water is now wine (John 2:1 12)
John begins with, quite possibly, the most important sign. Just as John begins his
gospel placing Jesus squarely at the creation, so here He begins the signs with an act
of creation; turning water into wine at the marriage in Cana. Jesus mother was in
attendance. Her motive in informing Jesus that there was a lack of wine is unknown,
as well as what she expected temporally or miraculously. We can know from Jesus
response that it may have been a miracle that she intended. He uses the phrase My
hour, referring either to the appointed time, so that people might believe, or to the
ultimate new beginning, the cross.
The Benefits Of The African Slave Trade
Treated like items rather than people with families, the African slave trade tore
people from their native land and caused mass controversy throughout the world.
While some viewed it as a prosperous business that allowed for free labor, others saw
the emotional and physical injustices caused by this movement. The ethical debate
this new business sparked, created arguments both for and against the abolition of
slave trade. Three prominent men who had key opinions on this topic were Malachy
Postlethwayt, John Wesley, and John Newton. While Postlethwayt defended slavery
and the benefits it created for the New World, Wesley and Newton, while not
completely denouncing slavery, questioned its ethics and realized the dark villainy
of the business. These figures sparked debate amongst men and helped create
arguments both for and against the Slave Trade. Seeing nothing wrong with the
business itself, Malachy Postlethwayt supported Slave Trade and saw only the
benefits it created for the New World. His views were based off the differences in the
way slaves were treated in their home country versus the way they were treated in the
New World. In their hone land, individuals were at war with each other constantly
and would be put through extreme torture and cruelty. In his excerpt, Postlethwayt
argued that moving them would be better than their current situation saying, Nay, in
life be preferable to torment and cruel death, their state cannot, with any color of
reason, be presumed
Income Diversification Essay
2.2.1. Contribution of Income Diversification to Poverty Reduction
The changing socioeconomic, political, environmental and climatic atmosphere in
developing countries across all over the world has continued to exacerbate the living
conditions of most households particularly those living in the rural areas. The
supplementary increase in poverty levels has led residents of these economies to
devise a number of mechanisms to mitigate the negative effects of these changes.
Meanwhile, there has been an increased acknowledgment among researchers
especially in the past one or two decades that Africans diversify their ways of living,
including on farm and off farm activities or market and non market activities, to
mitigate risks inherent in unpredictable ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Since many rural households derive income from some form of non farm activity,
increasing the profitability and range of such activities would improve their ways of
living security and living conditions (Awoyemi, 2004). However, expansion of these
opportunities related to the asset status and barriers to entry resulting from
inadequate or differential access to markets (Ellis, 2000). It is obvious that rural
economy is not based on agriculture but rather on a diverse means of activities and
enterprises. Much recent thinking on this subject is based on the concept of
livelihood diversification as a survival strategy of rural households in developing
countries (Ellis, 1998). Farming remains important but rural people are looking for
diverse opportunities to increase and stabilize their incomes.
Individuals in developing countries often rely on various sources of monetary
incomes (Leibbrand and Woolard, 2000). Moreover, Glick (1999) states that
monetary earnings are often supplemented through extensive engagement in home
production. The situation is likely to be similar in other countries of sub Saharan
Africa in particularly and in other developing countries in general. This suggests that
studies of labour market participation and labour supply in developing countries
should start from the presumption that multiple job holding is the norm rather than the
The Legacy Of Rhode Island
Vincent Buddy Cianci was born April thirtieth, 1941 . His career was fraught with
conspiracy and crime, but he is still considered to be one of the most beloved
political figures in Providence, Rhode Island s colorful history. He earned his first
term as mayor at age thirty three, in 1975. He would serve six terms as mayor over
the course of three decades. Buddy died just last year, January twenty eighth, 2016
after losing a battle with cancer. The city and surrounding towns mourned together at
the loss of an incredibly controversial, but deeply loved political leader. His six
terms made him one of the longest running mayors in United States history. Cianci s

Providence was no longer the bustling hub that it used to be. The city never really
recovered, it now houses many of the lower middle class and minority communities.
This type of implosions is sometimes referred to as white flight, the white middle
and upper class fled the city leaving the lower classes to live in dissolving,
disheveled neighborhoods . The Italian neighborhood, Federal Hill, fell under the
control of organized crime during this weakened economic window, this would
remain a prominent authority in Providence until the late 1990s. Today the tendrils of
mobster influence still can be seen but in a lesser degree than in the 1970s.
Politically, Providence was always a bit corrupted. It ran on a patronage system where
a person would scavenge and promote democratic voting and in return, the democrats
would give the person who gathered the votes a government job . This continued well
into the twentieth century despite the Pendleton Act of 1883 which stated that
government jobs should be awarded based on the potential employee s merit rather
than their political affiliations or connection . The politics were not clean, it was run
by the Democratic machine which kept the city spiraling down by putting the same
ineffective politicians in charge.

The Hunger Games, By Effie Trinket, An Escort For The...
Happy Hunger Games! And may the odds be ever in your favor! is a famous quote
said by Effie Trinket, an escort for the District twelve tributes. Effie said this quote
before drawing the names from the drawing pool at the reaping. This quote was
meant to give them hope and faith that they were not going to be chosen as a
tribute in the hunger games. Throughout the novel, there were many roles,
meanings, media, outward appearances, technology, and government significances
towards the Hunger Games. The roles and meanings were extremely important
throughout the games, but the main character to pay close attention to was
Katniss. Katniss played the role of a girl who had shown outstanding
characteristics that may have come to a surprise to many. She showed a lot of
courage that gave her some meaning to her character. One way she showed her
courage was by hunting illegally as a way to help her family survive. This was
courageous because she knew if she were to be caught she would have been
publicly executed for rebelling against the Capitol. Another example of a
courageous act was the day of the reaping. The day of the reaping when her little
sister Prim s name was drawn out from the drawing pool Katniss almost
immediately reacted on her sister s behalf. Her reaction was to push her sister behind
her and yell, I volunteer as tribute! This act proved how courageous, fearlessand
protective she could be even though she knew the odds were against her. In the

Comparison of News Reports Essays
Comparison of News Reports
The idea of this assignment is to compare and contrast two newspaper reports on the
same incident. The articles concerned are taken from The Mirror and The Times,
both published on the 4th of February 1998.
The Mirror is considered a tabloid newspaper. Tabloidpapers usually cover all
national and international news. They often contain more scandalous, gossipy stories
or personal news items.
The Times is considered a broadsheet newspaper. These are the largest type of
newspaper and cover all national and international news in a serious, informative way.
The basic story found in both articles is that a US Marine Fighter Jet sliced through
a cable car wire in ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The Times article is also split into 4 columns, but only has one headline. It reads 20
die in cable car after jets cut wire . This heading is neutral and blames the accident
on no one, yet from the words used in The Mirror; I can see that because they use
the word killed , they are implying that it is somebody s fault.
The positioning of the headlines is again different in each paper. In The Mirror, it
is to the top left hand corner, above a picture and in a bold font. In The Times it is
found beneath a picture, approximately a third of the way down the page and is in a
relatively small font.
The use of photographs and images differs in each paper only slightly. The Mirror
has two photographs and so does The Times. I would say that the photos take up
more space in The Times article, which would not normally be expected in a
broadsheet newspaper. The Mirror includes a very simple diagram detailing the facts
of the accident whereas The Times includes a map diagram detailing the position of
the accident.
In The Mirror article I would say that the headline catches the readers attention first,
whereas in The Times article it would be the large photograph to the top of the page.
In The Mirror article the general tone of the article is expressing empathy with the
Italians and resentment towards, and an apportioning of the blame, to the Americans.
The Merchant of Venice Essay
In the comedy, The Merchant of Venice, the roles and responsibilities of women is
a significant social issue proposed by Shakespeare. This theme is communicated by
the only three female characters in the play: Nerissa, Portia and Jessica. For
example, in Act 4 during the trial between Antonio and Shylock, Portia and Nerissa
disguise themselves as Balthasar and Bellario to free their friend. However, Jessica
also plays a minor role in portraying the independence of Jewish women in a
Christian and Elizabethan society, by successfully betraying her father, Shylock.
These characters portray Shakespeare s overall opinion on women, as well as a
modern audience s view on Elizabethan society in many significant ways by
accentuating themes, ideas... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The audience, as well as Bassanio, view Portia as a beautiful, immaculate,
aristocratic and fair lady. However after Act 5, Portia is nothing, but prejudicial
and bigoted, as she is the cause of Shylock s demise and claims that she used my
[her] body to punish Bassanio for abusing her gift of love: the ring. This is ironic,
because Portia infringes her relationship with Bassanio by inferring she has
committed an affair, even though she herself accuses him of abusing her love and
power by losing the ring. This implies that relationships in Elizabethan society were
corrupt and fake, which allowed many women in particular to commit religious
crimes against their husbands. Furthermore, Shakespeare additionally uses the
theme of deception to convey that women are superior to men. This seen when
Portia tells Nerissa that I [she] have work in hand/ That you yet know of. We ll see
our husbands/Before they think of us (3.4), as she wants to help Bassanio and
Gratiano save Antonio s life by disguising. In general, many Elizabethan playwrights
such as Twelfth Night and The Merry Wives of Windsor, allow the audience to
understand the fact that the position of women was such, so that they could not
become active (3.4) in society. By Portia and Nerissa dressing up as Balthasar and
Bellario, this would give them temporary masculinity and so, the ability to do things
that normal social codes would not,

Another idea is that it is the placebo effect, a procedure or medication that has a
psychological effect on the brain but not a physiological effect on the brain. It s
like giving someone a drink of water but saying it makes pain go away, and magically

He believed that reform would come through educating the leaders in the classics
and in his philosophy. He therefore sought a political position of influence, from
which he could implement his principles. (Zukeran) Confucius beliefs are what the
political leaders should know about, to know more about the one who would be
advising them would be to thoroughly check his capabilities and qualifications. It
would be proper for them to respect Confucius and kindly reject his teachings.
Confucius also implements the idea of the rectification of names, wherein the
ruler is to be obeyed without further question. Perhaps the leaders were not able to
see the goodness in Confucius desires of being in a position in their government.
Confucius brings fear to their rule; there could be a chance to bring the current
government s political situation. Confucius seeks a position to be able to
implement, implying that without being in a position at least (refer to
rectification of names), he will not be able to be introduce the principles he wishes
to develop in his fellow citizens. Confucius may be on the right track of trying to
acquire a political position in order to be recognized by his countrymen before
actually executing his plans for the area of responsibility. He seeks to get a go
signal from his superiors (the government) before implementing these laws.
Confucius clearly lives by his word by not disobeying or opposing the people in
government. The officials may

The Importance Of Work In The Feminine Mystique, By
Betty...
The Importance of Work is an essay from The Feminine Mystique, by Betty Friedan.
The whole essay talks about how humans can contribute to the society with their full
capacities through work and that women should hold jobs equivalent to men. Friedan
insists that men and women need work that satisfies their creativity and contributes
to human society. Today, doing paid work is a necessity because it helps us get
through the day wether for our needs or our pleasures. The money earned from work
supports the whole family. According to Mrs. Olive Schreiner, if women did not win
back their right to a full share of honored and useful work, women s mind and
muscle would weaken in a parasitic state; her offspring, male and female would
weaken progressively, and civilization itself would deteriorate. (Friedan 8) I
strongly agree with this statement. I believe that the work ethic of most generations
are influenced by parents. It is obvious that we look up to our parents. If the
parents do not show any desire to work, their children will copy them and will not
contribute to society. If a mother who is a stay at home mother or has a different
job does not work hard or does not show any work ethic, her children will look up
to her and follow her footsteps and eventually civilization would deteriorate.
(Friedan 8) Friedan implies that doing work is the only way to create a meaningful
life. However, I do not agree with Friedan s implication because I think there are a
million ways to create a meaningful life. Work is an important necessity which can
help you to live good and obtain your wants. Although work should not be the most
important or your main priority in life. Work should not be the meaning of your
life. There are far more important things in life than work. Work is just the reason
you are be able to afford things that are meaningful to you. For me, we need to
work in order to support our family and to satisfy their needs, to be able to help
relatives or friends when they are in need, and to satisfy you own needs. God,
family, friends and your hobbies should be the one to bring meaning to your life.
Work is just the reason we can make things work and make it by. In the essay,
Friedan believes that a woman

eighteen hundreds explorations were being funded solemnly for scientific research.

Mr. Burns, A Post Electric Play
With the title alone, it is easy to assume that Mr. Burns, A Post Electric Play would
not be a typical play. Unlike other performances, Mr. Burns is not a simple
narrative. Quite literally, it is a play within a play. The narrative lacks structure due
to how it stands as a social commentary on the importance of entertainment to
society. Mr. Burns began after what seems to be a traumatic event that has affected
everyone s way of life. From what we see as our survivors huddled around a campfire
in the woods. They recount a normalcy of how life used to be, an episode of The
Simpsons. Throughout the recounts on what happened in the episode Cape Feare ,
the play introduces a new character which gives exposition to the current landscape of
the United States. As the play continues into its second and third act, there is a large
shift on the scenery, lighting, etc. as the cast begins to recreate the episode of The
Simpsons which they discuss in the previous act. While it is easy to get lost on why
everything is happening, why they are performing, it comes to the central conflict of
reclaiming normalcy of the world which has past, an episode of television. As the
performance goes on, the costume designrepresents where our characters are at in
their timeline. While, in the first act, the characters are dressed in stereotypical post
apocalyptic attire, it does vary in from what we are presented in the last two acts.
Around the campfire, the characters are dressed in
Comparing Jesus Christ In Steinbeck s Jim Casy
Jim Casy, a martyr and leader with a large following, reflects the sacrifices of Jesus
Christ for the downtrodden by uniting the less privileged and rebelling against the
religious constrictions of their time. Jim Casy parallels Jesus Christ in many ways
throughout the novel. Steinbeck purposefully gave Jim Casy the same initials as Jesus
Christin order to signify the link between these two influential figures. Jim Casy, like
Jesus Christ, is consistently willing to sacrificehimself for the greater good. When a
scuffle ensues between Tom Joad and a police officer in Hooverville, Jim Casey

put me in jail, an I ain t doin nothin but set aroun (266 267). Jim does not want Tom
to be arrested because Tom has broken parole, Jim recognizes that there would be
less suffering if he takes the blame, so he does. Jim is watching out for someone he
cares for deeply, and is willing to make a sacrifice for Tom. He would rather be
punished than see another person be punished more than himself. Jim believes
that since he s got no kids, it would be better for him to be in jail as compared to
Tom because Tom has a family and is someone s son. Jim values family and wants
to keep the Joad family together and since he does not have his own family and
does not have a present father, Jim believes it would be better for him to be in jail as
opposed to Tom. Jim thinks that his life is less important than some
The Dual Inheritance Within Christianity Of Greek And...
(1) Describe the dual inheritance within Christianity of Greek and Jewish thought.
How were these traditions similar? How were they distinct? How did each
contribute to the formation of Christian life and belief? Cite MacCulloch in your
answer. Christianity has been heavily influenced by both Greek and Judaic
traditions. As we said in class, the first generations of Christians were Jews who
lived in a world shaped by Greek elite culture (ChristianityThe First Three Thousand
Years MacCulloch 2). The Greeks and the Jews have many similarities. For
example, both the Greeks and the Jewish peoples had their own sense of
uniqueness, the Greeks with their tradition and culture being spread and adopted
throughout the Eurasian and African continents, and the Jews believed they were
an elect group of people chosen by God and having a special relationship with him.
Both the Greeks and the Jews were also alphabetic cultures, something not common
in that time. This allowed the two cultures to easily convey complex thoughts and
ideas through a set of symbols rather than with pictograms that were popular with
other cultures in that time period. And the final similarity between the Greek and
Jewish traditions is how each culture was anchored in a text specific to them. The
Greeks had The Iliad and The Odyssey by Homer, two books that became defining
texts in the Greek tradition as well as a focal point of classic Greek ideals and values.
However, the Judaic tradition focused on the

Question 1
1.1
Production Orientation:
The main concern of a production orientated business is to focus primarily on
making as many units as possible to minimise costs. Therefore the company will
have maximised its profits by reducing its costs. (IMM, 2015)
The Model T Ford was only made in one colour, black. This allowed the company
Ford to minimise production costs.
Sales Orientation:
A sales orientated business concentrates on making the product first and then trying
to sell it to their target market through aggressive promotion and advertising. (IMM,
2015)
McCain is a sales orientated business as they focus on selling their product to the
consumer after making it.

Perception can be broken down further: Selective Exposure: Consumers perceive and
interpret things that have meaning to them. Selective Distortion: Previous incidents
that happened to the consumer affect the perception and attitude of the individual.
Selective Retention: Consumers block out information which they do not believe in
or don t want to know about. If one fast food chain restaurant provides bad customer
service the customer s attitude (Selective Distortion) towards the whole franchise is
affected. (Strydom, 2014)
Motivation: Motivation is the desire one has to fulfil their needs and wants.
Motivation can be broken down further into Maslow s Hierarchy of Needs. An
individual s motivation to stay connected and keep up to date in social media can
influence them to buy a specific type of phone.
Attitude: Attitude is the way people feel about certain things through their
experiences. Both a negative and positive attitude could influence the consumer s
decision making process. Someone may think Woolworths s recycling policy is a
good idea and have a positive attitude towards the company.
North Carolina s Voting System
Living in a nation based on democracy, where a citizen s voice is the equivalent of
casting a vote in political elections, the majority of American citizens eligible to vote
do not participate in elections. The rationale behind voter non participation varies
among individuals and demographic groups; however, they all share a connection
regarding their feelings towards their treatment by the country s political system.
Minority voters such as blacks and hispanics are a demographic group highly faced
with disenfranchisement in regards to political electionsdue to oppression. North
Carolina s Voter ID laws are a prime example of how minority voters are being shut
out.
Among non voting Americans, many categorize into demographic groups that are
being pushed out by the political system in the form of misrepresentation and
corruption among government officials. According to voter trends in Who Votes?
Congressional Elections and the American Electorate: 1978 2014 by Thom File,
Americans with low incomes, lower levels of education, younger Americans, and
minorities are among some of the demographic groups experiencing the lowest voter
rates. On the other hand, the wealthy, higher educated, older, and non minority white

Voter ID laws would further enforce the agenda of the republican party by lessening
the strength of democratic voters. Studies have already shown a significant link
between support for voter ID and racial discrimination, among both lawmakers and
white voters in general. (Ingraham, 7 Aug. 2016) Politicians catering to only select
demographic groups creates and reinforces a hierarchy apparent to the suppressed
demographic groups, causing them to have the outlook that they are repudiated by the
Failure Of The Berlin Blockade
As one of the crucial points of the Cold War, the Berlin Blockade of the Soviets and
the Berlin Airlift of the Allies displayed failure in Soviet aggression in contrast
with the success achieved by the peace seeking Western Allies. The Berlin Blockade
of the East Germans effectively blocked the Western Allies railway, road, and canal
access to the Berlin sectors under Western control. As a direct siege on half of Berlin,
the Allies came to this problem with an ingenious solution an airlift. A little under
four hundred thousand tons of food, coal, and supplies were flown over the East
German sectors and into West Berlin. Initially, the Soviets hoped the Allies would
find the airlift too expensive, and would altogether abandon their sectors in Berlin;
however, the contrary happened, and the airlift proved a great success, with the
Berliners receiving an average calorie amount higher than the UK food rationing
system provided. Lasting for a little less than a year, the airlift kept Western
presence in Berlin, as well as displaying Western cooperation and advancement.
Soviet expectations behind the Blockade were reversed in the success of the Airlift,
seeking to expel Western presence from Berlin they attempted to lay siege, however
this obstacle was quickly overcome and the Blockade came nothing close to what the
Airlift had accomplished.
Similarly, the construction of the Berlin Wallduring the Berlin Crisis revealed Soviet
flaws and shortcomings in their occupation of

Drinking Age Changed
Should the drinking age in the United States be changed? This question has been
raised many times throughout my lifetime. I am interested in this topic for many
reasons. I know many people who participate in underage drinking, which makes me
wonder what effects this choice could have long term. I also know people who
chosen not to drink until they are 25 years old.
The legal drinking age in the United States is currently 21, which is four years shy
of when the brain stops developing. Previously however, the legal age was 18.
Countries around the world have varied laws on the drinking age. In some countries,
drinking is not allowed no matter what age. In other countries, the drinking age is 16.

Abstract
Patterns of plant successional change in Gatineau Park, Old Chelsea, were studied
quantitatively. The relations between different successional stages of plant
communities and abiotic factors were descried. To test these, we went to the fields,
and worked on two transect in groups of 4. We counted the trees and measured the
diameter at breast height (dbh) for tree with a dbh value greater than 2cm. The dbh
measurements (cm), percentage of fern cover and percentage of ... Show more content

Modification: Where it says to leave the string at the transect (bottom of page 5), was
modified since we were given the measuring equipment before the lab began.
Results
Figure 1 (a) shows that at site 3a (transect 2), sugar maple is the most abundant tree
species among tree species with dbh ≥ 2cm. (b) shows glossy buckthorn is the
most abundant tree species among tree species with dbh ≤ 2cm.
Table 1 show no statistical significance to the t stat, therefore no significant variation
exists among the quadrats 1+2 and 2+3 for the mean dbh (cm) of sugar maple. So we
fail to reject the null hypothesis. On the other hand, quadrat 1+ 3 shows variation
according to the t stat, therefore the null hypothesis for that quadrat is rejected.
Figure 2 shows that among tree species with dbh ≥ 2cm, sugar maple, iron wood,
red pine are the most abundant tree species at both sites 1 (transect 2), and site 1
(transect 2).
Figure 3 shows that among tree species with dbh ≤ 2cm, sugar maple, glossy
buckthorn and red ash are the most abundant tree species at site 3a (transect 2). Sugar

James Watson Honor Essay
The definition of honor is the regard with great respect. My definition of honor is
to recognize those who have helped people somehow in any way, shape, or form.
James was involved in the co discovery of the double helix structure of DNA along
with Francis Crick. James Watson received a Nobel Prize for it in 1962 and went on
to do work in cancer research and mapping the human genome. James found out the
location of the DNAon a strand, and is the first person to even identify what it looks
like to the human eye. James Dewey Watson was born in Chicago, Illinois, on April
6, 1928, and spent his youth there, going to Horace Mann Grammar School and

Also he helped with mapping cancer to help people or warn others, so they will be
able to find if they have it. James helped out everyone on this planet and those who
are sick or are sick but don t know it. To be recognized in the scientific community
you have to do something amazing. Crick and James Watson s first look toward
taking in the structure of DNA missed the goal, but their second look took place in
the spring 1953 and brought about the match of the ladder helical look. Which takes
after a stepping stool. Their model added how the DNA particle could copy itself.
Watson and Crick had looked the work of English scientist Rosalind Franklin, a
partner of Maurice Wilkins at King s College London, to land at their noteworthy
disclosure, notwithstanding, her commitment to their discoveries would go generally
unrecognized until after her she died. Franklin had made a few unpublished working
papers talking about the basic characteristics of DNA, and with her understudy
Raymond Gosling had taken a X ray diffraction picture of DNA, known as Photo 51,
which would get to be urgent proof in recognizing the structure of
Sports, Males And Masculinities By Richard Pringle Essay
Reading Response Sport, Males and Masculinities by Richard Pringle
Prior to the late 1980s, there has not been a great deal of research done around the
between masculinity and its relationship or influence with sport, but it appears that in
recent times it has been widely researched with various different theories and
concepts developing from this research.
The article looks to shed light on the concept of male participation in sports,
particularly heavy contact sports, and its relationship or influential nature in
developing a male identity or a masculinity dependant on sport.
One of the key concepts detailed by Pringle (2007), is the idea of hegemonic
masculinity, which was originally coined by Connell (1995). Connell suggest that the
concepts of hegemony and masculinity have been intertwined, which has created a
social form of a masculine ideal, developed around male dominance, power and
patriarchy over groups who are deemed weaker such as women and homosexual men.
Hegemonic masculinity is essentially a socially elite or desirable status, with which
the performance of masculinity can be legitimately practised within society.
This definition has led to a great source of division between genders, and Connell
goes on to say that there is now a gender order which is essentially a form of hierarchy
(in addition to sexism), brought about by his concept of hegemonic masculinity
(Connell, 2002).
The concept of hegemonic masculinity has, for lack of a better

Chinese Immigration in the 19th Century America
1. Introduction Since its founding, the United States has attracted immigrants from
all over the world and consists of a variety of different cultures. Immigration has had
an enormous impact on American society and economy and shaped the country
remarkably. American was dominated by the image of the melting pot that melts up
all race differences and cultures to become on American culture. The ideas of
multiculturalism started at the end of the nineteenth century and turned into the
concept of cultural pluralism that defined the nation as a mixture of diverse
ethnicities with different cultural backgrounds, all co existing and contributing to the
new nation. Over the past centuries, there have been debates on how to define the real

California. The Gold Rush drew thousands of Chinese workers to America. Besides
fleeing from poverty and bad political situations in their home country, the one
common goal was to reach economic wealth. But as much as they were searching for
a better life, most of the Chinese immigrants did not intend to stay in the country
permanently (Daniels 11). When the first Chinese arrived on steamships, they were
greeted with hostility because they quickly became a significant part of labour. They
were known to be hard and reliable workers. BorthwickВґs intend was to picture
every ethnic group that immigrated to America during the Gold Rush era. His
drawing shows no derision or fear rather than curiosity. Big newspapers and
magazines published the first pictures of the Chinese to inform the people how the
newly arrived Chinese look like and how they integrate. The immigrants were a
newsworthy subject, especially on the East coast. The picture shows their daily
activities and how they lived. The men that are working in the back support the

Faden Vs Disney Essay
The purpose of copyright law is to protect a creator and their original work from
being used without appropriate reasoning falling under fair use, as well as being
used without permission from the creator. Fair use can be defined as a doctrine that
allows portions of a copyrighted work to be used without the creator s permission as
long as it is only for commentary, parody, criticization, or educational purposes.
In the fictional case of Professor Faden versus Walt Disney Studios, I have decided to
take the side of Professor Faden. Professor Faden claims fair use in this case. He
claims the purpose of his video, containing small portions of Disney s copyrighted
movies, to be a display of education and remix. Those two, do, in fact, fall under ...

To determine a case of fair use, all of those factors must be taken into consideration
before the judge may make a final ruling.
When looking into the first factor of fair use, purpose and character used, Faden
states his point that his video is used for educational purposes. When you actually
go back and watch the video for yourself, you see immediately that the video is
clearly made in good character with good intentions, as well as that the nature of the
work is educationally based, which brings us to the second factor in determining the
fair use of a copyright case.
The second factor in the determination of fair use is indeed the nature of the
copyrighted work, as mentioned previously. As Professor Fade stated, the nature
of his video was for educational purposes, which can be observed rather obviously.
He also stated that his video could fall into the category of remix. A remix is a new
version or rendition of a previously existing work, most common in the music
industry. Professor Faden s Fair(y) Use Tale, may comprehensively be seen to be a
remix, proving to obey the second factor of fair use
Similarities Between Macbeth And Lady Macbeth
Macbeth is about a man s yearning for power, and the unforgiving, homicidal acts
that he commits in order to gain it. In addition to that, this story equally focuses on
his power hungry wife and her extreme desire for control. Both Macbeth and Lady
Macbeth are connected to each other by more than just marriage. Shakespeare
develops an interesting relationship that discovers the failures of not one person, but
a spirit made up of two. The focal point is heavily on this unity within the plot of
Macbeth, where the roles of Macbethand Lady Macbeth are defied by the
stereotypical genderroles. During the first act, Lady Macbeth exemplifies how
Shakespeare plays with incorporating different, not known characteristics of a
female within her. In scene five, Lady Macbeth is talking to herself. She is about
to go talk to Macbeth about murdering Duncan. She says, Come, you spirits / That
tend on mortal thoughts, unsex me here, / And fill me from the crown to the toe
top full / Of direst cruelty (47 50). Lady Macbeth s brief monologue suggests that
women are not normally evil; contrary to that, men are. Lady Macbeth continuously
pushes Macbeth to kill Duncan so he can become king, and even though he cannot
murder Duncan, she ridicules him and calls him a coward for failing to do what she
demanded. Nonetheless, the supposed spirits she was calling to did not make her
bitter or evil, rather, she did that herself because she was the one who conjured up the
idea of killing the king.
The Effects Of Climate Change On Earth
In another matter, this is not the first time that climate change has affected the
planet in the past there were many problems to the earth millions of years ago.
There were five major ice ages from the longest and first scientists believe occurred
was two point four to two point one billion years ago during the early Proterozoic
Eon there was an ice ageformed and it was the Huronian. The second ice age was the
cryogenian and it has been known that it produced a snowball earthin which
permanent sea ice extended to or very near the earth s equator; this period occurred
from eight hundred and fifty to six hundred and thirty million years ago. The third ice
age that occurred was the Andean Saharan it occurred during the Paleozoic from fout

Scientists believe the possible causes of the medieval warm period were increase in
solar activity, decrease volcanic activity, and change to ocean circulation. After the
medieval ended what followed was the little ice age; the little ice age is a period
between the thirteen hundreds to the eighteen seventies. During this time Europe and
North America were subjected to a much colder winters than during the 20th century.
Scientists believe the cause of this period was cyclical lows in solar radiation,
heightened volcanic activity, changes in the ocean circulation, variations in earth s
orbit, and axial tilt, inherent variability in global climate and decrease in the human
population these just the few reasons why the little ice age was formed.
Climate change has caused many problems to humans and ironically the cause of
it are humans them selves. One of the major problems that climate changed has
caused is food crisis; hotter temperatures will severely diminish the world s ability
to grow crops and feed humanity and other animals. The effects of major heat
waves recorded in the past were very excruciating like the one in Western Europe
during the summer of 2003 which hunted the crop yield deeply. Also in 2003 Italy
was affected by a big heat wave where a maze yield feel by 36%. These are major
signs that humans won t have any thing to feed themselves in several years if this
damaging global warming continues.
Hawk Hoops Case
Selecting an event venue is an important activity preceding an event because the
selection significantly impacts the success and budget of an event. According to
Leoissac, a website created for sports administrators and students, five essential
steps must be performed when making decisions regarding what venue should host
a specific event. Analyzing the events need for a venue is the first step in venue
selection. In this step, decision makers need to determine if an indoor or outdoor
venue is needed, what capacity is required, and the duration the venue is needed for.
In the Hawk Hoops scenario, an indoor venue would be more desirable than an
outdoor venue due to the unpredictability of the weather. Housing the event indoors
will also allow... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Due to the ceremony being held at Kinnick following the event, the venue should
be located somewhere close to the stadium. The fourth step in making a venue
selection is agreeing on price and terms. This step involves negotiating the best
deal possible. In our fundraising event, we are hoping to negotiate a lower rate for
university venues, since the event will directly benefit the university. If this is not
the case, we may need to negotiate with other venues to get the best value possible.
The fifth step involves making a booking and confirmation. After making a
booking, the organizer should receive a contract proving the facility is booked,
dates and times booked, payments required, and other contractual details (Selecting
the venue, 2018). The Hawk Hoops event organizers should promptly book the
facility once a decision is made. They must also ensure the contract confirmation is
received shortly after booking the venue for evidence in the event of a dispute.
Overall, five essential steps must be performed to ensure the best possible venue is
selected for the
Elephant Life In The Circus Research
Today I am going to discuss an elephants life in the circus. Elephants are not made
to be confined. They should not be in chains, poked, prodded, and separated.
Elephants are one of the worlds biggest creatures. They should be left alone in their
natural habitat. When elephants are taken from their homes, they face serious
health issues. Elephants will spend most of their time chained by the foot only
being able to move one step forwards and back, 90% or more of their time is spent
like, in the wild, they will roam in familyherds up to 25 miles per day, stated in the
article Cruelty at the Circus, written by Society for the Advancement of Animal
Wellbeing in 2007. These large animal s anatomy is made to travel throughout their
entire lives. Walk mosting of the day it provides exercise and health for these
massive mammals. Arthritis, locked joints, and calluses can be found in these
animals if they are not walking or exercising as much as they should. Elephants also
travel in herds which can contain a whole family. Elephants are the only animals
known to still have grandmothers. Not only do they have grandmothers, but, the
grandmother is very important when it comes to raising the herds babies. We didn t
think we d find that very positive relationship between having a grandmother present
and... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
During this time it is very important they get the correct diet, exercise, and love. In
the circus they get the complete oposite, for example, they are still tortured, fed the
wrong foods, and cramped in a tight space. Since elephants carry their babies for so
long they are kept up from performing that much longer. When elephants are not
performing they are kept in cages, containers, and small outdoor fences. They are not
around other elephants for support and help. They experience an abnormal amount of
loneliness. As soon as the elephant gives birth the calf is taken from them and the

Is Gambling Ethical
Gambling
In today s world, there are many different ways to gamble such as casinos, state
lotteries, pull tabs, bingo, sporting events, and the internet, just to name a few.
Although the popularity of this activity remains strong in America, there are
individuals and groups that continue to scrutinize and attack this industry. People
strongly opposed to gambling would like to see it policed by the federal government
or outlawed completely; they are wrong. There are several positive aspects of
gambling aside from providing entertainment and a social interaction. Gambling is
not immoral or unethical. Gambling provides economic benefits including jobs
and reduced government assistance. The gaming industry supports research and
education related to gambling addiction. The percentage of lower income people
who gamble is small; the majorities of people who gamble are those with higher
incomes and can afford to do so. Lastly, gambling has been a part of history and
different cultures dating back to ancient times. In addition, the percentages of
those in favor of gambling are significantly higher than those that are opposed. To
restrict or prohibit gambling is wrong and insulting to adults in today s world. It is
an individual s right to decide if he or she should gamble based on his or her own
personal beliefs. There is a moral component to be considered. Some would argue
that gambling is morally wrong and a threat to public virtue. This is not true, based

Symbolism and Americanism within Melville s Moby Dick
Essay
Published in 1851, the story of Moby Dick is not just the tale of one mans search for
control over nature, but also the story of friendship, alienation, fate and religion that
become intertwined amidst the tragedy that occurs upon the doomed Pequod. The
crew itself are an amalgamation of cultures, from the cannibal Queequeg, to Starbuck,
a native of Nantucket. The Pequod can thus be seen as a microcosm for immigrants
and whaling within America. In Moby DickHerman Melville examines both the
exploitation of whaling and the reality of being born outside of America.
Distinctly American in style Melville writes as though through a stream of his
consciousness # which primarily serves to offer Melville s own meditations upon
America. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
He is no longer an American citizen surrounded by foreign sailors, but actually
becomes part of the amalgamation of cultures himself.
At the end of the novel Ishmael is no longer the na #239;ve man he once was, as he
informs the reader, a whale ship was my Yale College and my Harvard #. The
beliefs he possesses at the point of his rescue by The Rachel seem reminiscent of
transcendentalism, an idea that was prominent in 1836 and one that inspired not only
Melville himself but also Henry Thoreau.
Consequently due to his personal growth as a character, Ishmael s divine spirit
becomes saved and he himself is rescued from certain death. Captain Ahab remains
unable to accept the concepts of transcendentalism, his pursuit of Moby Dick is
relentless and without mercy. His character has no opportunity for growth or
discovery as he shuns the advice of everyone, whilst in pursuit of the white whale.
Due to this his fate becomes irrevocably sealed and he is doomed to fail his mission
and perish at the mercy of his quarry.
The novel itself is not simply a story offering insight into American society, but is
also a tapestry of symbols and motifs, each representing an element of human society
as a whole, or in some cases, a symbol that foreshadows the end fate of the Pequod
and its heathen crew.
The ship around which the story is set, The Pequod , has perhaps some of the most

Frankenstein Feminist Analysis
For many years, even to this day we are able to view how women have been
dominated by men. It is obvious that men are seen as the most dominant figure
throughout the story Frankenstein written by Mary Shelley. You can see that in the
1800 s, women were restricted to many commodities In the novel the reader can tell
how she is able to prove that women are shown to be possessions other than
independent like the men. You can immediately tell that Shelley s novel gives
feminist qualities. Many interpreters actually view Shelley as someone who is
centered around men when it comes to looking at the genderroles. As you can see in
the novel most of the women are very quiet and actually all share something in
common. Women back then and to this day can t stand up for themselves when it
comes to men. Unlike Shelley she is able to reach out to her audience and let them
visualize how important women really are. We can see that women are actually smart
and can be confusing people. Unfortunately she is also able to show women such as
Justine, elizabeth and Caroline as a control by the men in the novel, Frankenstein.
The definition of feminism can be interpreted in multiple ways. But the way that
many see it as is ... a political, cultural or economic movement aimed at establishing
equal rights and legal protection for women (The History and Theory of Feminism).
Humans today believe that there are theories or philosophies pertaining to feminism.
For example, the issue of gender
Analysis of The Film Lone Survivor
Based on a true story, the movie Lone Survivor features four Navy SEALs that set
out on a mission to Afghanistan with orders to capture and kill Taliban leader Ahmad
Shah. The Navy SEALS are detected by villagers and the mission was compromised.
Ultimately, the mission had been discovered and the men found themselves
surrounded by dozens of Talibansoldiers. One of the Navy SEAL soldiers managed
to dispatch to base and retrieve assistance but the Taliban shoot down the
helicopter. During battle, three of the Navy SEAL soldiers were killed leaving one
still alive. Director Peter Berg based this movie off of Marcus luttrell the survivor of
Operation Red Wings. This powerful war film features actor Mark Walberg who

The second scene of socializing is when the SEAL team introduces new members
into the group. In the movie, character Shane Patton recited a pledge to the former
Navy SEALs that expresses the mission statement that Navy SEALs live by. If a
new member is able to cite this mission statement it shows a lot about the individual
s character and becoming part of the elite team. An example of social interaction
seen in the film is found mid way through the film. A Afghan village live by the
Pakhtunwali code, meaning if anyone from that village takes in an individual that
community will fight tell the death for that person. In Marcus Luttrell s case this
afghan villagers took him in and cared for his wellbeing. Senior Taliban leader found
out that the village was protecting him and tried bribing the community with money
to give up the soldier. The village s spiritual values helped to keep Marcus Luttrell
alive and send him back to the United States. In this part of the film it is interesting to
see the diversity in Afghanistan and the different views the people live by. Some
will go out of their way to protect someone they have never met before. Mohannad
Gulab, the person who saved Luttrell has a very close relationship with him.
Although there is a language Barrier between the two, both say they can still
understand what each other is trying to say because they share a special bond.

T.S. Eliot Paints a Grim Picture in The Love Song of J....
T.S. Eliot s The Love Song of J. Alfred Prufock may be accurately described as an
amalgam of synergistic emotions among them self doubt, longing, fear, regret, and
indecisiveness which, through the alchemy of poetry, work in tandem to create and
communicate an overwhelming sense of anxiety. These emotions serve as cataracts
upon the lens through which the poem s narrator views both himself and the city
streets he travels. Overwhelmed by an overwhelming question (10) the narrator
perhaps more terrified by the sheer gravity of the overwhelming question (10) than
the numerous other fears and self doubts the narrator presents to the reader never

decaying figure. This anxiety is particularly evidenced in the seventh stanza of the
poem in which the persona declares that he will be judged both for his receding

Descriptive Essay About Cathedral Park
Equipped with my phone and earbuds, my family and I were ready for our venture
west. We were all eager to go; none of us had been to any of these attractions before

we drove through. My parents were in the front and in the back my sister and I were
excited for the long drive we had ahead of us. The trip was going to be fun for all of
us because we would have some familytime together and also get a grasp on the
world and how beautiful it would be if we would treat all of it the way these
destinations are being treated. We drove through Missouri, Kansas, Oklahoma, and

The drive to the Grand Canyon was just about as boring as the drive through
Kansas, nothing but dead grass and dry dirt. Even though it wasn t the most
exciting, this was what we had all been waiting for. This was like the core of the
vacation. We pulled into the National Park and we were going to the parking lot
when we saw around 10 bucks. We got to the parking lot and hopped out of the car
and we all said where is it? There was nothing you could see yet except for trees
and building. We started walking towards it and the view of it hit you at once,
holy crap, I said, this is incredible. We started to walk on a paved path around the
canyon and the view kept getting better and better. It was so hard to comprehend the
view of this place. To think it was made naturally was unimaginable. After about an
hour of walking we decided to take a bus to different locations of the park.
When the sun was about to set we went to a look out spot and waited around thirty
minutes. Norah, get your camera out. The sun s setting, commanded my mom.
Norah and my mom had a perfect spot to take pictures and a lady pushed her way
right in front of them. None of us knew what to say besides, did she really just do
that? We all had a very long day so we kept our mouths shut and took a bus back to
the parking lot and headed to our hotel. The canyon was already packed at around
7:00 a.m. the next morning. We thought we d arrive early
Interpretations Of American History, A Collaborative
Team...
In Interpretations of American History, a collaborative team of four editors (Francis
G. Couvares, Martha Saxton, Gerald N. Grob, and George Athan Billias) seek to
educate any student of history on the various perspectives on any one said historical
issue. The editors sum up the entire book with These volumes reflect our
understanding that historyis an act of interpretation. Essentially, this book offers a
multitude of benefits for those who wish to further study history, but at the same time
the reader must take everything said with a grain of salt. Interpretations of American
History is made up of two or more scholarly opinions on every American historical
event from the Puritans to the Reconstruction Era. At the beginning of each... Show

Another pro to this book is its ability to save time and effort. The editors have
condensed their opinions and the opinions of the brightest historical minds into one
book. Rather than search the internet for an assortment of interpretations on a
given historical event, the reader can flip to the desired event in the text. Because
of this, the student can rest assured that the content has been properly evaluated,
found relevant, and is, therefore, worth the time to read. Such a time saving
benefit must not be overlooked. Also, the variety of viewpoints presented in this
book help to expand the reader s knowledge. The editors provide a well rounded
collection of additional works that show the reader some of the major theories on a
historical event. Basically, a reader is able to see historical issues through the eyes
of professional historians. Interpretations of American History does not merely state
the facts, it allows the reader to decide where they stand on the historical event in
question. This can lead to a deeper, more profound study of history. However, the
reader must keep in mind that this book is fact based opinion. The editors and
consulted historians are adding their thoughts to the known facts. Although such
speculation can open the door to broader thinking, it can also trip up those who take
the opinion as fact. If misinterpreted, this book might muddy the waters of the reader
s mind. Still, the book in no way attempts to hide its
Research Paper On Notre Dame In Paris
During the early gothic period, the bishop of Paris started a project to replace a
basilica with a new cathedral. His project evolved and transformed and after almost
a century, the church was finished in 1250. Notre Dame in Paris has been standing
for almost nine centuries, and is a monument to the times in which it was built. Part

which was surrounded by a double ambulatory and five radiating chapels. Part 3:
The original interior of Notre Dame starts with an arcade with pointed arches
derived from the wall shafts, and spans over the aisles, serving as a gallery as well.
From the spandrels above the arches of the arcade rises another arcade which also
serves as a gallery, formally known as the triforium. Continuing up from the triforium,
rose windows with intricate tracery and then lancet windows above them line the
walls to form a clerestory. The walls and wall shafts then develop into sexpartite rib
vaults which form the ceiling of the cathedral. Part
Thank You For Being Expendable
Post Traumatic Stress Disorder, or PTSD, is a disorder many post war victims
suffer from. The problem is, the people who suffer from this are not receiving the
proper treatment. They are relying on the VA to help them but as time goes on,
the VA has started providing less service. War veterans should be given immediate
attention when it comes to post treatment. This is why more needs to be done to
improve their treatment process. To get an appointment with the VA it takes a
couple of weeks, up to months to finally be seen. people who suffer from PTSD are
usually in bad shape as Colby Buzzel mentions in Thank You for Being Expendable
and often have thoughts of suicide or self harm. Because of the VA s long wait time
people are not getting the care they need quick enough to help them. In Thank You
for Being Expendable Buzzel says, In my experience, the wait for an appointment
was typically eight to 10 weeks, but sometimes as long as three to four months. This
shows the way actual post war soldiers feel about the VA. With the amount of stress

Informative Essay On Baby Formula
As a new parent you probably have so many questions about baby formula. One of
the biggest questions most often asked by parents about formula is; what are the
types of formula are safe for my baby to use? Well, there are many types of
formulas on the market, and finding the right one for your baby should not be that
difficult. However, when you do decide on one particular formula, it is best to
stick to it, even if you have the urge to switch. At the first sign of gas, spitting up,
or colic most parents think it is diet related. Most of the time, it is usually just your
little one s tummy still trying to mature and regulate itself. Five of the most

naturally found in milk. It is rare but it does happen from time to time. In instances
such as this, your child s doctor will recommend an alternative formula that
replaces the sugar with corn syrup or a different type sugar. Soy based Soy milk is
actually great for little ones with allergic reactions to the protein in cow s milk.
Most babies who are allergic to protein in cow s milk might have mild rectal
bleeding at bowel movement times. The formula is made with plant protein and
quite easy to digest. Parents who are vegans also might prefer for their little one to

Definitional Essay.pdf

  • 1. Definitional Essay Writing a definitional essay can be a challenging task, requiring a nuanced understanding of the chosen topic and the ability to convey a clear and comprehensive definition to the audience. The difficulty lies not only in defining the subject but also in ensuring that the definition captures the essence of the concept, avoiding ambiguity and vagueness. Crafting a well-structured definitional essay demands meticulous research to gather relevant information, examples, and perspectives. The writer must delve deep into the intricacies of the chosen concept, exploring its various dimensions and interpretations. Additionally, it requires the skill to organize thoughts coherently, presenting a logical progression of ideas that leads the reader to a comprehensive understanding of the subject. One of the challenges in writing a definitional essay is striking the right balance between providing a broad overview and delving into specific details. The essay should be accessible to a diverse audience while still offering depth and insight. The writer must navigate the fine line between being too broad, leaving the audience with a superficial understanding, and being too narrow, potentially alienating readers who may not be familiar with specific aspects of the concept. Furthermore, the choice of language is crucial. The writer must communicate the definition with clarity and precision, avoiding jargon that might confuse the audience. Achieving a tone that is both informative and engaging is a delicate task, as the essay should not only define the concept but also captivate the reader's interest. In conclusion, writing a definitional essay is a complex endeavor that demands a thorough understanding of the chosen topic, effective research skills, and the ability to articulate thoughts clearly and engagingly. It requires striking a balance between breadth and depth, ensuring accessibility without sacrificing depth of insight. • 2. Why Don T Ocean Freeze Research Paper Why don t Oceans freeze. In many parts of the world , winter temperatures drop low enough to make rivers and lakes freeze. In these parts of the world, the ocean will not freeze even though other water sources does. In the Arctic region, most of it is a tundra, which include frozen soil and animals such as polar bears and penguins. The ocean however is not frozen. One reason ocean water doesn t freeze all the way through is because it s so salty. Salt lowers the freezing point of water, meaning that fresh water (without salt) will freeze sooner than salt water; salt water like the ocean has to get even colder than freshwater before it will freeze, and it doesn t always necessarily reach that cold enough temperature. In addition to all
  • 3. Definition Of Abortion Is Murder There are many controversial topics in our day and age, anything from from the color of a dress to a child choosing their own gender can and will be argued. With so many touchy subjects, we are bound to stumble across topics that go against our faith that the community around us may choose to support. This can split families and friendships, so it is necessary to have an understanding on what these topics entail. One of the most pressing subject is abortion, and whether it should be legal or not. While this subject can be argued from many different viewpoints, I will do my best to provide a thorough explanation that will leave you understanding why abortion is murder. Life is something that is full of so many wonderful events, and it is also... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... People can argue that a woman has the right to decide to have a kid or not, and they do, but not once they are pregnant. I certainly supported a woman s right to choose, but to my mind the time to choose was before, not after the fact. (Ann B. Ross, Miss Julia Throws a Wedding). We all suffer consequences for the choices that we make. I can go and co sign a loan, but my partner in the loan might not meet up to their end of the bargain and not pay off the debt. This would leave me to pay the debt, and I can t just bail myself out and kill the loan agreement. The loan was something that was set in place and agreed upon. Any two people that get into a relationship where having a child is possible needs to either make sure that they do not get pregnant, or be ready to accept whatever consequences come about. This can be called consequences, or it can be called a blessing. The only thing we can do is play on the one string we have, and that is our attitude...I am convinced that life is 10% what happens to me and 90% how I react to it. And so it is with you...we are in charge of our attitudes. (Charles R. Swindoll). The situation is what you make out of it, and we can always look for the best if we choose to. Abortion

  • 5. The Signs Of The Gospel Of John Essay Introduction Amidst the disciples that had already seen the resurrected Christ, Thomas declares that he will not believe unless he personally sees and feels Jesus for himself. To which, on His appearance, Jesus said to him, Because you have seen Me, have you believed? Blessed are they who did not see, and yet believed. Although the gospel of John is clear that Jesus preformed many signs that are not recorded, he states that the ones he records are for the purpose that those who have not seen may believe and have life in His name. Therefore, the eight signs John chooses are very important. These signs take Jesus out of the realm of the pious rabbi and challenge the reader to see the hand of God, indeed, God Himself, actively working in Jesus. It is the presence of God in the signs that Jesus preforms that show His deity. Water is now wine (John 2:1 12) John begins with, quite possibly, the most important sign. Just as John begins his gospel placing Jesus squarely at the creation, so here He begins the signs with an act of creation; turning water into wine at the marriage in Cana. Jesus mother was in attendance. Her motive in informing Jesus that there was a lack of wine is unknown, as well as what she expected temporally or miraculously. We can know from Jesus response that it may have been a miracle that she intended. He uses the phrase My hour, referring either to the appointed time, so that people might believe, or to the ultimate new beginning, the cross.
  • 6. The Benefits Of The African Slave Trade Treated like items rather than people with families, the African slave trade tore people from their native land and caused mass controversy throughout the world. While some viewed it as a prosperous business that allowed for free labor, others saw the emotional and physical injustices caused by this movement. The ethical debate this new business sparked, created arguments both for and against the abolition of slave trade. Three prominent men who had key opinions on this topic were Malachy Postlethwayt, John Wesley, and John Newton. While Postlethwayt defended slavery and the benefits it created for the New World, Wesley and Newton, while not completely denouncing slavery, questioned its ethics and realized the dark villainy of the business. These figures sparked debate amongst men and helped create arguments both for and against the Slave Trade. Seeing nothing wrong with the business itself, Malachy Postlethwayt supported Slave Trade and saw only the benefits it created for the New World. His views were based off the differences in the way slaves were treated in their home country versus the way they were treated in the New World. In their hone land, individuals were at war with each other constantly and would be put through extreme torture and cruelty. In his excerpt, Postlethwayt argued that moving them would be better than their current situation saying, Nay, in life be preferable to torment and cruel death, their state cannot, with any color of reason, be presumed
  • 7. Income Diversification Essay 2.2.1. Contribution of Income Diversification to Poverty Reduction The changing socioeconomic, political, environmental and climatic atmosphere in developing countries across all over the world has continued to exacerbate the living conditions of most households particularly those living in the rural areas. The supplementary increase in poverty levels has led residents of these economies to devise a number of mechanisms to mitigate the negative effects of these changes. Meanwhile, there has been an increased acknowledgment among researchers especially in the past one or two decades that Africans diversify their ways of living, including on farm and off farm activities or market and non market activities, to mitigate risks inherent in unpredictable ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Since many rural households derive income from some form of non farm activity, increasing the profitability and range of such activities would improve their ways of living security and living conditions (Awoyemi, 2004). However, expansion of these opportunities related to the asset status and barriers to entry resulting from inadequate or differential access to markets (Ellis, 2000). It is obvious that rural economy is not based on agriculture but rather on a diverse means of activities and enterprises. Much recent thinking on this subject is based on the concept of livelihood diversification as a survival strategy of rural households in developing countries (Ellis, 1998). Farming remains important but rural people are looking for diverse opportunities to increase and stabilize their incomes. Individuals in developing countries often rely on various sources of monetary incomes (Leibbrand and Woolard, 2000). Moreover, Glick (1999) states that monetary earnings are often supplemented through extensive engagement in home production. The situation is likely to be similar in other countries of sub Saharan Africa in particularly and in other developing countries in general. This suggests that studies of labour market participation and labour supply in developing countries should start from the presumption that multiple job holding is the norm rather than the
  • 8. The Legacy Of Rhode Island Vincent Buddy Cianci was born April thirtieth, 1941 . His career was fraught with conspiracy and crime, but he is still considered to be one of the most beloved political figures in Providence, Rhode Island s colorful history. He earned his first term as mayor at age thirty three, in 1975. He would serve six terms as mayor over the course of three decades. Buddy died just last year, January twenty eighth, 2016 after losing a battle with cancer. The city and surrounding towns mourned together at the loss of an incredibly controversial, but deeply loved political leader. His six terms made him one of the longest running mayors in United States history. Cianci s loved Providenceso deeply that in trying to help, he shaved away at his honest... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Providence was no longer the bustling hub that it used to be. The city never really recovered, it now houses many of the lower middle class and minority communities. This type of implosions is sometimes referred to as white flight, the white middle and upper class fled the city leaving the lower classes to live in dissolving, disheveled neighborhoods . The Italian neighborhood, Federal Hill, fell under the control of organized crime during this weakened economic window, this would remain a prominent authority in Providence until the late 1990s. Today the tendrils of mobster influence still can be seen but in a lesser degree than in the 1970s. Politically, Providence was always a bit corrupted. It ran on a patronage system where a person would scavenge and promote democratic voting and in return, the democrats would give the person who gathered the votes a government job . This continued well into the twentieth century despite the Pendleton Act of 1883 which stated that government jobs should be awarded based on the potential employee s merit rather than their political affiliations or connection . The politics were not clean, it was run by the Democratic machine which kept the city spiraling down by putting the same ineffective politicians in charge. Launching of Cianci s Career: Cianci began his career as a prosecutor
  • 9. The Hunger Games, By Effie Trinket, An Escort For The... Happy Hunger Games! And may the odds be ever in your favor! is a famous quote said by Effie Trinket, an escort for the District twelve tributes. Effie said this quote before drawing the names from the drawing pool at the reaping. This quote was meant to give them hope and faith that they were not going to be chosen as a tribute in the hunger games. Throughout the novel, there were many roles, meanings, media, outward appearances, technology, and government significances towards the Hunger Games. The roles and meanings were extremely important throughout the games, but the main character to pay close attention to was Katniss. Katniss played the role of a girl who had shown outstanding characteristics that may have come to a surprise to many. She showed a lot of courage that gave her some meaning to her character. One way she showed her courage was by hunting illegally as a way to help her family survive. This was courageous because she knew if she were to be caught she would have been publicly executed for rebelling against the Capitol. Another example of a courageous act was the day of the reaping. The day of the reaping when her little sister Prim s name was drawn out from the drawing pool Katniss almost immediately reacted on her sister s behalf. Her reaction was to push her sister behind her and yell, I volunteer as tribute! This act proved how courageous, fearlessand protective she could be even though she knew the odds were against her. In the Hunger Games
  • 10. Comparison of News Reports Essays Comparison of News Reports The idea of this assignment is to compare and contrast two newspaper reports on the same incident. The articles concerned are taken from The Mirror and The Times, both published on the 4th of February 1998. The Mirror is considered a tabloid newspaper. Tabloidpapers usually cover all national and international news. They often contain more scandalous, gossipy stories or personal news items. The Times is considered a broadsheet newspaper. These are the largest type of newspaper and cover all national and international news in a serious, informative way. The basic story found in both articles is that a US Marine Fighter Jet sliced through a cable car wire in ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The Times article is also split into 4 columns, but only has one headline. It reads 20 die in cable car after jets cut wire . This heading is neutral and blames the accident on no one, yet from the words used in The Mirror; I can see that because they use the word killed , they are implying that it is somebody s fault. The positioning of the headlines is again different in each paper. In The Mirror, it is to the top left hand corner, above a picture and in a bold font. In The Times it is found beneath a picture, approximately a third of the way down the page and is in a relatively small font. The use of photographs and images differs in each paper only slightly. The Mirror has two photographs and so does The Times. I would say that the photos take up more space in The Times article, which would not normally be expected in a broadsheet newspaper. The Mirror includes a very simple diagram detailing the facts of the accident whereas The Times includes a map diagram detailing the position of the accident. In The Mirror article I would say that the headline catches the readers attention first, whereas in The Times article it would be the large photograph to the top of the page. In The Mirror article the general tone of the article is expressing empathy with the Italians and resentment towards, and an apportioning of the blame, to the Americans.
  • 11. The Merchant of Venice Essay In the comedy, The Merchant of Venice, the roles and responsibilities of women is a significant social issue proposed by Shakespeare. This theme is communicated by the only three female characters in the play: Nerissa, Portia and Jessica. For example, in Act 4 during the trial between Antonio and Shylock, Portia and Nerissa disguise themselves as Balthasar and Bellario to free their friend. However, Jessica also plays a minor role in portraying the independence of Jewish women in a Christian and Elizabethan society, by successfully betraying her father, Shylock. These characters portray Shakespeare s overall opinion on women, as well as a modern audience s view on Elizabethan society in many significant ways by accentuating themes, ideas... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The audience, as well as Bassanio, view Portia as a beautiful, immaculate, aristocratic and fair lady. However after Act 5, Portia is nothing, but prejudicial and bigoted, as she is the cause of Shylock s demise and claims that she used my [her] body to punish Bassanio for abusing her gift of love: the ring. This is ironic, because Portia infringes her relationship with Bassanio by inferring she has committed an affair, even though she herself accuses him of abusing her love and power by losing the ring. This implies that relationships in Elizabethan society were corrupt and fake, which allowed many women in particular to commit religious crimes against their husbands. Furthermore, Shakespeare additionally uses the theme of deception to convey that women are superior to men. This seen when Portia tells Nerissa that I [she] have work in hand/ That you yet know of. We ll see our husbands/Before they think of us (3.4), as she wants to help Bassanio and Gratiano save Antonio s life by disguising. In general, many Elizabethan playwrights such as Twelfth Night and The Merry Wives of Windsor, allow the audience to understand the fact that the position of women was such, so that they could not become active (3.4) in society. By Portia and Nerissa dressing up as Balthasar and Bellario, this would give them temporary masculinity and so, the ability to do things that normal social codes would not,

One idea is that it releases endorphins, your body s natural pain killer, which affects the serotonin, the chemical that affects mood, in the brain. Another idea is that it is the placebo effect, a procedure or medication that has a psychological effect on the brain but not a physiological effect on the brain. It s like giving someone a drink of water but saying it makes pain go away, and magically their pain goes away. He proved that his early interest in rituals as a child was carried on in his career and on what will be the center of his life. The founder of Confucianism, Master Kong (Confucius, 551 479 B.C.E.) did not intend to found a new religion, but to interpret and revive the unnamed religion of the Zhou dynasty, under which many people thought the ancient system of religious rule was bankrupt; why couldn t the gods prevent the social upheavals? ... It would be proper for them to respect Confucius and kindly reject his teachings. Confucius also implements the idea of the rectification of names, wherein the ruler is to be obeyed without further question. • 16. The Importance Of Work In The Feminine Mystique, By Betty... The Importance of Work is an essay from The Feminine Mystique, by Betty Friedan. The whole essay talks about how humans can contribute to the society with their full capacities through work and that women should hold jobs equivalent to men. Friedan insists that men and women need work that satisfies their creativity and contributes to human society. Today, doing paid work is a necessity because it helps us get through the day wether for our needs or our pleasures. The money earned from work supports the whole family. According to Mrs. Olive Schreiner, if women did not win back their right to a full share of honored and useful work, women s mind and muscle would weaken in a parasitic state; her offspring, male and female would weaken progressively, and civilization itself would deteriorate. (Friedan 8) I strongly agree with this statement. I believe that the work ethic of most generations are influenced by parents. It is obvious that we look up to our parents. If the parents do not show any desire to work, their children will copy them and will not contribute to society. If a mother who is a stay at home mother or has a different job does not work hard or does not show any work ethic, her children will look up to her and follow her footsteps and eventually civilization would deteriorate. (Friedan 8) Friedan implies that doing work is the only way to create a meaningful life. However, I do not agree with Friedan s implication because I think there are a million ways to create a meaningful life. Work is an important necessity which can help you to live good and obtain your wants. Although work should not be the most important or your main priority in life. Work should not be the meaning of your life. There are far more important things in life than work. Work is just the reason you are be able to afford things that are meaningful to you. For me, we need to work in order to support our family and to satisfy their needs, to be able to help relatives or friends when they are in need, and to satisfy you own needs. God, family, friends and your hobbies should be the one to bring meaning to your life. Work is just the reason we can make things work and make it by. In the essay, Friedan believes that a woman

Unlike other performances, Mr. Burns is not a simple narrative. Quite literally, it is a play within a play. The narrative lacks structure due to how it stands as a social commentary on the importance of entertainment to society. Mr. Burns began after what seems to be a traumatic event that has affected everyone s way of life. From what we see as our survivors huddled around a campfire in the woods. They recount a normalcy of how life used to be, an episode of The Simpsons. Throughout the recounts on what happened in the episode Cape Feare , the play introduces a new character which gives exposition to the current landscape of the United States. As the play continues into its second and third act, there is a large shift on the scenery, lighting, etc. as the cast begins to recreate the episode of The Simpsons which they discuss in the previous act. While it is easy to get lost on why everything is happening, why they are performing, it comes to the central conflict of reclaiming normalcy of the world which has past, an episode of television. As the performance goes on, the costume designrepresents where our characters are at in their timeline. While, in the first act, the characters are dressed in stereotypical post apocalyptic attire, it does vary in from what we are presented in the last two acts. Around the campfire, the characters are dressed in

How were they distinct? How did each contribute to the formation of Christian life and belief? Cite MacCulloch in your answer. Christianity has been heavily influenced by both Greek and Judaic traditions. As we said in class, the first generations of Christians were Jews who lived in a world shaped by Greek elite culture (ChristianityThe First Three Thousand Years MacCulloch 2). The Greeks and the Jews have many similarities. For example, both the Greeks and the Jewish peoples had their own sense of uniqueness, the Greeks with their tradition and culture being spread and adopted throughout the Eurasian and African continents, and the Jews believed they were an elect group of people chosen by God and having a special relationship with him. Both the Greeks and the Jews were also alphabetic cultures, something not common in that time. This allowed the two cultures to easily convey complex thoughts and ideas through a set of symbols rather than with pictograms that were popular with other cultures in that time period. And the final similarity between the Greek and Jewish traditions is how each culture was anchored in a text specific to them. The Greeks had The Iliad and The Odyssey by Homer, two books that became defining texts in the Greek tradition as well as a focal point of classic Greek ideals and values. However, the Judaic tradition focused on the

Failure Of The Berlin Blockade As one of the crucial points of the Cold War, the Berlin Blockade of the Soviets and the Berlin Airlift of the Allies displayed failure in Soviet aggression in contrast with the success achieved by the peace seeking Western Allies. The Berlin Blockade of the East Germans effectively blocked the Western Allies railway, road, and canal access to the Berlin sectors under Western control. As a direct siege on half of Berlin, the Allies came to this problem with an ingenious solution an airlift. A little under four hundred thousand tons of food, coal, and supplies were flown over the East German sectors and into West Berlin. Initially, the Soviets hoped the Allies would find the airlift too expensive, and would altogether abandon their sectors in Berlin; however, the contrary happened, and the airlift proved a great success, with the Berliners receiving an average calorie amount higher than the UK food rationing system provided. Lasting for a little less than a year, the airlift kept Western presence in Berlin, as well as displaying Western cooperation and advancement. Soviet expectations behind the Blockade were reversed in the success of the Airlift, seeking to expel Western presence from Berlin they attempted to lay siege, however this obstacle was quickly overcome and the Blockade came nothing close to what the Airlift had accomplished. Sports, Males And Masculinities By Richard Pringle Essay Reading Response Sport, Males and Masculinities by Richard Pringle Prior to the late 1980s, there has not been a great deal of research done around the between masculinity and its relationship or influence with sport, but it appears that in recent times it has been widely researched with various different theories and concepts developing from this research. The article looks to shed light on the concept of male participation in sports, particularly heavy contact sports, and its relationship or influential nature in developing a male identity or a masculinity dependant on sport. One of the key concepts detailed by Pringle (2007), is the idea of hegemonic masculinity, which was originally coined by Connell (1995). Connell suggest that the concepts of hegemony and masculinity have been intertwined, which has created a social form of a masculine ideal, developed around male dominance, power and patriarchy over groups who are deemed weaker such as women and homosexual men. Hegemonic masculinity is essentially a socially elite or desirable status, with which the performance of masculinity can be legitimately practised within society. This definition has led to a great source of division between genders, and Connell goes on to say that there is now a gender order which is essentially a form of hierarchy (in addition to sexism), brought about by his concept of hegemonic masculinity (Connell, 2002). The concept of hegemonic masculinity has, for lack of a better

The Gold Rush drew thousands of Chinese workers to America. Besides fleeing from poverty and bad political situations in their home country, the one common goal was to reach economic wealth. But as much as they were searching for a better life, most of the Chinese immigrants did not intend to stay in the country permanently (Daniels 11). When the first Chinese arrived on steamships, they were greeted with hostility because they quickly became a significant part of labour. They were known to be hard and reliable workers. BorthwickВґs intend was to picture every ethnic group that immigrated to America during the Gold Rush era. His drawing shows no derision or fear rather than curiosity. Fair use can be defined as a doctrine that allows portions of a copyrighted work to be used without the creator s permission as long as it is only for commentary, parody, criticization, or educational purposes. In the fictional case of Professor Faden versus Walt Disney Studios, I have decided to take the side of Professor Faden. Professor Faden claims fair use in this case. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... To determine a case of fair use, all of those factors must be taken into consideration before the judge may make a final ruling. When looking into the first factor of fair use, purpose and character used, Faden states his point that his video is used for educational purposes. When you actually go back and watch the video for yourself, you see immediately that the video is clearly made in good character with good intentions, as well as that the nature of the work is educationally based, which brings us to the second factor in determining the fair use of a copyright case. The second factor in the determination of fair use is indeed the nature of the copyrighted work, as mentioned previously. As Professor Fade stated, the nature of his video was for educational purposes, which can be observed rather obviously. He also stated that his video could fall into the category of remix. A remix is a new version or rendition of a previously existing work, most common in the music industry. Professor Faden s Fair(y) Use Tale, may comprehensively be seen to be a remix, proving to obey the second factor of fair use
  • 41. Similarities Between Macbeth And Lady Macbeth Macbeth is about a man s yearning for power, and the unforgiving, homicidal acts that he commits in order to gain it. In addition to that, this story equally focuses on his power hungry wife and her extreme desire for control. Both Macbeth and Lady Macbeth are connected to each other by more than just marriage. Shakespeare develops an interesting relationship that discovers the failures of not one person, but a spirit made up of two. The focal point is heavily on this unity within the plot of Macbeth, where the roles of Macbethand Lady Macbeth are defied by the stereotypical genderroles. During the first act, Lady Macbeth exemplifies how Shakespeare plays with incorporating different, not known characteristics of a female within her. In scene five, Lady Macbeth is talking to herself. She is about to go talk to Macbeth about murdering Duncan. She says, Come, you spirits / That tend on mortal thoughts, unsex me here, / And fill me from the crown to the toe top full / Of direst cruelty (47 50). Lady Macbeth s brief monologue suggests that women are not normally evil; contrary to that, men are. Lady Macbeth continuously pushes Macbeth to kill Duncan so he can become king, and even though he cannot murder Duncan, she ridicules him and calls him a coward for failing to do what she demanded. Nonetheless, the supposed spirits she was calling to did not make her bitter or evil, rather, she did that herself because she was the one who conjured up the idea of killing the king.

You can see that in the 1800 s, women were restricted to many commodities In the novel the reader can tell how she is able to prove that women are shown to be possessions other than independent like the men. You can immediately tell that Shelley s novel gives feminist qualities. Many interpreters actually view Shelley as someone who is centered around men when it comes to looking at the genderroles.
