Introduction
Tidal power or tidal energy is the form
of hydropower that converts the energy
obtained from tides into useful forms of
power, mainly electricity.
What are tides and how they occur??🤔🤔
• Tides are the rise and fall of sea levels
• Tidal power is
practically
inexhaustible
• Reason:- Gravitational interaction with the
Moon,Sun and also due to the Earth's rotation.
Types of Tidal Power Plants
1) Single Basin Type
2) Double Basin Type
• Tidal Barrages
• Tidal Current Turbines
• Dynamic Tidal Power Plants
Two types of tidal power plants
Single Basin Type
Plant Name Location Capacity

Gulf of cambay Gujarat 7000
Gulf of kutch Gujarat 1200
Gangatic

West bengal 100
Tidal Power Plants in India
Advantages
• Pollution Free
• No Fuel Cost
• Insured power throughout the year
• Unaffected by Mansoon
Disadvantages
• High capital cost
• Difficult to find location
• Sea water is very corrosive
• Marine life is affected
